Fan art of @kianamaiart’s characters from I Don’t Want To Be A Magical Girl! (with glasses, ft misc glasses characters & two IDWTBAMG universe fan characters)

I’ve been following this project from the start so it’s been great seeing interactions between the characters and how the fandom is so excited for it. ^^

I tried to draw the cast from memory and, while Miss seems a little different from canon, at least I got the dark hair roots and strands sticking out lol. But details aside they’re all recognizable! Which means they’re lovely designs that are unique from one another✨

Eclipse’s shades are a combination of his usual eye mask and the shades from this artwork, and Hoshi’s glasses are inspired by this one!🌒⭐️

Designs… (I don’t have a name for her yet but) the pigtails girl’s shapes are a combination of curves pointing downwards and curves pointing upwards. The idea ended up being that she’s on Eclipse and Lady DeVoid’s side so (after reading this post by Kiana about how most of the characters had Aika’s design as the springboard and are designed to complement eachother) I wanted her design to complement those two’s, with some influence from Zira. I like that the strands of hair on her forehead and the shape around them mirror both Zira’s hair and DeVoid’s horns haha. Plus, I was trying to figure out how to design her glasses and they ended up being kind of the inverse of Eclipse’s eye mask, which is very nice. Eclipse and DeVoid seem to be associated with sharp curves and circle shapes; maybe her outfit could be a lot fancier…

As for what her role might be in the story… I dunno, if she works with Eclipse and DeVoid, and Eclipse is all ~theatric and grand~ then maybe she could be like… his assistant… or something? Who knows. Or, I say “observer from afar” so perhaps she actually gets along with Zira well and they’d watch on the sidelines while Aika and Eclipse duke it out…?

Eclipse… Moon… Umbra… man what if I just name the pigtails girl Yueshi (月食, lunar eclipse)(for both the moon motif that Zira and Eclipse have, and the darkness motif that Eclipse and DeVoid have haha)

Shooting star and telescope don’t feel quite right, but with the circular shapes and the lunar eclipse, I could kind of see her having some star trail motifs with her sweater…

I guess Umbra would be the same type of elf (? darkness/concept personified?) as Lady DeVoid but I’m not sure haha. We don’t have much information on DeVoid other than the fact that she is darkness itself and that she lost most of her powers which she can’t remember how to use. Banished by a Star Guardian, revenge, recruiting Eclipse to help spread the darkness particles to destroy the Star Guardian… If she has a similar backstory to MLP:FIM’s Princess Luna then does that mean she was originally Aika’s teammate or something? haha

About Umbra’s hair… (Feel free to correct me for any inaccuracies.) I think from the reference photos I was trying to draw box braids but got so focused on also making the braids look like moon phases that I’m not sure if it’d still be box braids in the end? They seem more like cornrows now, at least for the side ones?

Well, initially I scribbled down Yueshi so I could experiment with values because I was thinking about how light-coloured pants draw the eye too much if the outfit or the top half of the character is darker. (Half way through she ended up looking like a IDWTBAMG character so I tried to match the proportions with Aika’s turnaround.) But I suppose if there’s enough contrast for the upper half (and IDWTBAMG’s stark black design style gives a lot of contrast) then it works out better. I think the combination of making Yueshi’s hair and the top half of her sweater black and the circle shape white worked out okay. Initially she had large round eyes so I tried giving her round glasses too but since she ended up being a fan character in the universe, it was too similar to Aika and Zira.

Umbra’s design kind of popped into my mind today so I tried to scribble it down and experimented with hairstyles. But green and purple are already associated with Zira, and that shade of lavender is more like Eclipse so I guess I’ll fiddle around with her colour scheme more. Maybe there’s not enough of the signature black there, and both could use some more details to match the level of details in the canon designs… (If Yueshi works under DeVoid then she’d probably get a fancy outfit too.) Then again, Umbra is more like Miss in terms of detail so it seems she’d be a background/supporting character or something…🤔

(I can’t seem to escape the puffy sleeves/cone shape silhouette🤔 Gotta diversify. Also, not sure if it’s ‘cause of the project’s style or if I just really love circles in character design haha)

So it’s half sketches, but instead of that being because I was too lazy to color the rest, it’s instead because I kind of got carried away doing only sketches. And then I figured I should probably line and color at least some of them, so here we are

So this is more from that sort of Mega Man AU I made up yesterday, with some updated designs for Optimus and Megatron, and a new one for Elita

I decided to use my marker pen again for lineart, since I haven’t used it in a fair bit, but admittedly the lines may have been too thick, which I think you can especially see with the faces. But oh well

Elita’s design is still a bit of a work in progress. I thought it looked fine in sketch form, but looking at it now, she might need more reworking, particularly with her head. It kind of looks like she’s wearing a wrestler’s mask, which personally I’m not a big fan of

Also she has hair, because a lot of Mega Man, or at least Mega Man X designs, have hair, so I figured might as well try it out here. I couldn’t settle on a hair color though, or at least one that fit while not blending in with her other colors. I may just scrap it in all honesty, but I think she may need more around her head regardless

But as for Elita in this AU? I’m thinking she’s more a loner, or she has her own team rather than working with this duo. She’s friendly, at least to Optimus, but she’d rather work by her own rules. And as stated before, she’s very over the top anime

She also has a double sided axe here as opposed to Optimus’ single sided, but that might change later if I feel like it

She kind of gives me Protoman vibes? It’s probably because of the glasses, and also because my head’s been rattling around with this one Elita idea for a bit. Namely of her and Optimus being rebuilt by Alpha Trion like in g1, but instead of being rebuilt at the same time, Elita-1 was built some time before Optimus, being Alpha’s first attempt while Optimus was the second. Which kind of fits with Protoman’s origin

It might be her origin here too? I’m not sure how much I want to deal with creators in this story, since in Mega Man the robots very much have creators, while in Transformers that’s not so much the case

She might just be like, Optimus’ cool older sister

On to other things in this AU, so I decided to look up videos on Mega Man X lore to get more knowledge, considering it’s the basis for this AU. So the Maverick Virus is what makes Reploids go crazy and cause issues. So I might incorporate some sort of virus into this story as well?

Like either the Decepticons are basically like Mavericks, infected by the virus and gone crazy, or this is after the war and a virus outbreak has been making bots crazy, possibly targeting Decepticons for some reason. Maybe the former

But also I learned that apparently it was the Maverick Virus was what made Zero chill, because it changed programming and he was evil before that. And I’m considering having this also be the case for Megatron here

Originally it was just as a joke, like I thought it’d be funny if he was crazy and then the crazy virus made him chill instead. But I’ve thought about it a bit more, and I kind of want it legitimately

Like okay, here Optimus and Megatron are the top bots in dealing with the infected bots. Not just because of their strength, but because neither can get infected themselves. Optimus has the Matrix, which gives him protection, but Megatron is just seemingly immune to the virus

Unbeknownst to anyone else however, he isn’t immune at all, and he’s been infected with it for years. However, instead of turning him mad, it cleared his mind and instead made him far more calm, and he ended up instead working with Optimus and his group to stop these other violent bots

He knows this, but he hasn’t told anyone else about his situation, because of several reservations. For starters, his team is meant to take out infected bots, which means they might turn on him, or misunderstand that it doesn’t affect him the way it’s supposed to and think he’s going to turn rogue. He’s also been working with them for a while, so the fact that he’s been keeping this secret might be seen as a betrayal, and he doesn’t want to lose these people he considers friends

There’s also been work towards finding a cure, and he doesn’t want to be cured. He was violent and full of nothing but rage before, he doesn’t want to go back to that. He isn’t fully sure if that’s what would happen if he was cured, but he doesn’t want to take that chance. It’s also a reason why he doesn’t tell Optimus, because the Matrix makes him immune and is considered the best bet for a cure, and Optimus might unintentionally do so, or with good intentions (Megatron tries to generally avoid the Matrix on missions for the same reasons)

But also it gives him questions he doesn’t like having, like why is he seemingly the only person affected differently? And/or if the virus is meant to disrupt and alter intended programming, does that mean he was always intended to be a violent maniac? Why? Why was he made this way? And is he wrong to be the way he is now?

But yeah, Megatron’s got stuff going on. Will probably come up for conflict later

Also megop’s probably a thing here? I have it that they live together, as you can see in the top right. Also while Optimus may not be the gremlin TFO Orion is, he does not sleep gracefully whatsoever. It’s a bit annoying to Megatron but he ultimately doesn’t mind. It was just supposed to be a funny thing, but yeah there’s probably megop here

And I think that’s it for now. I have a couple ideas for Arcee and maybe some for Bumblebee, so I’ll probably do more of this. Also I’m planning on trying out the Mega Man games too, since I saw they’re on the eShop

The Aspiring Teachers Program

Melissa woke the next morning before anyone else in the cabin. ‘Not surprising,’ she thought. She had been getting up early for more than half of Parent Trap’s life. The other two in the room looked roughly around the same age, maybe mid twenties, Melissa guessed. She didn’t really care. She grabbed a pair of mid-thigh length khaki shorts, and pink tank top and a light denim button up out of her suitcase and headed to the bathroom to change. She pulled her hair into a loose ponytail, and after searching for a mirror ‘Or anything freakin��� reflective,’ and coming up empty handed, she decided two things. This would have to be good enough, and she was already giving up on putting effort into her looks for this thing.

After folding her pajamas neatly and setting them on her pristinely made bed, Melissa checked her watch to find that the mess hall wouldn’t even be open for breakfast for another half hour. She sighed and grabbed one of the few novels she had brought along. Stepping outside, she found a bench nearby and decided to read until she could go get some food.

“Hey!” Thirty seconds later Parent Trap slid onto the bench right beside Melissa, facing her, and the redhead noted that the girl left no room between the lengths of her shin and Melissa’s thigh before she looked up to meet those damn shiny eyes. “You wanna get some breakfast with me?” The girl sounded hopeful.

“They’re not open yet, Parent Trap,” Melissa replied, returning her gaze to her book. Feeling the young girl just staring at her she looked back at the girl, this time a little annoyed, though this time she wasn’t met with the girl’s eyes. The girl was looking down at where their legs were meeting. Only for a second, though, because she quickly locked eyes with Melissa before speaking again.

“They opened five minutes ago.” Melissa looked at her watch to see it had been much longer than thirty seconds since she sat down, and then at her book to see that she had read far more than she thought she had. She sighed and stood up, turning to face the young girl still seated on the bench.

“You head up there and get us a spot. I’ll be there in a minute,” Melissa told the girl, who smiled brightly in response. The Veteran teacher then turned to return her book to her suitcase before meeting the little Aspiring One, as Melissa decided she was now calling it, for breakfast. If she had decided to turn around at any moment on her way back, she would have caught her own Aspiring One staring right at her ass. But she didn’t, so she didn’t.

Ten minutes later, she was crossing the mess hall to sit down across from Parent Trap with a bowl of what Melissa was hoping was oatmeal. As she was making her way to the table, she looked at Parent Trap, using the opportunity to try and get a feel for the kid without her talking, or smiling that bright ass smile, or, God forbid, looking at her with those beautiful freaking eyes.

The girl was young, sure, but she had that weird kind of niceness to her that you know people only get by going through Hell. It was the girl’s armor. Melissa respected that. She sure as Hell didn’t understand it, but she respected it. Try as she might, Melissa couldn’t deny that the girl was beautiful. Gorgeous, even. A Philly ten. Give her eight to ten years, and she’ll be a Philly thirteen. That’s the thing, she’s a kid. Nineteen. Ain’t even in the trenches, yet.

Melissa sat down across from the girl and the girl lit up like freakin’ Christmas lights. She immediately starts planning for the first day’s event: making a birdhouse. Originally, Melissa had scoffed at the idea. It seemed stupid to her, but listening to the young girl across from her basically daydream out loud about building birdhouses with her future students was warming Melissa up to the idea. Besides, maybe learning how to make a birdhouse out of cheap crap she gets from donations or the dollar store might not be the worst idea she’d ever heard.

That was until she was actually building the damn birdhouse. There’s glue all over her hands, her birdhouse kinda resembles the cake from Sleeping Beauty, or maybe the Tower of Pisa, and someone on the other side of the room decided they wanted to use glitter, so, of course, that meant every person in the room had tiny silver specks of glitter somewhere on their persons. When she looked over to see that Parent Trap had somehow reconstructed the Fresh Prince’s house, she was both extremely impressed and frustrated that the girl had taken to it so easily.

After lunch and four more attempts at making a suitable home for a ruffed Grouse, Melissa called it quits and just watched as the girl beside her created masterpiece after masterpiece. When Bullhorn Lady, who was leading this little circus, decided that the activity was done for the day, she announced the winner- Parent Trap, of course- and, she released everyone for a free hour before dinner. The room cleared out quickly, as apparently Melissa was not the only one frustrated by their lack of architecture knowledge.

Melissa remained behind as Parent Trap planned out loud how she was going to get her birdhouses-more like birdcity- back to the cabin.

“I think they keep ‘em.” Melissa interrupted the girl’s reverie. When the girl looked back at Melissa like the redhead had kicked her puppy, it didn’t take very long for the older woman to cave. “Alright, you grab two, I’ll grab two, and we’ll make a run for it.”

“What about yours?” Melissa was in the process of grabbing one of the well-built birdhouses when she stopped.

“What about mine?” Parent Trap looked at Melissa with such an adorable puzzled look on her face. Melissa wasn’t sure if the girl was picking on her because of how poorly she made the birdhouse or not.

“Don’t you wanna take it home?” The girl was so earnest, Melissa decided there was no way the girl was being mean.

“Nah, it’s not that good. Yours, though. Look at ‘em. They could be in some teachin’ magazine. Make ya famous.” The girl’s blush nearly knocked Melissa off her feet.

“I think it doesn’t matter if it’s good or not. It’s your art. You made it, and art doesn’t have to be good, it just has to make you feel something,” the girl was looking at her shoes as she said those words, as if she were unable to look Melissa in the eye.

Melissa thought about being able to show the girl all of her projects that didn’t turn out as planned. She had a few failed pottery pieces sitting in the back of her closet, a flash drive containing a terrible attempt at a novel, and a bookshelf in her library that has an uneven leg because she thought she could build it herself. She thought about how the girl would react, and realized that she couldn’t even imagine the girl responding with anything but a heartwarming smile, and encouraging her to pursue any pipe dreams Melissa may have.

“I appreciate that, hon, but honestly, yours are more worth saving because those ones are wanted.” With that, Melissa scooped up two of the girl’s birdhouses and headed off towards their cabin. She missed Parent Trap grabbing her awkwardly built birdhouse and following her with gusto.

After putting the birdhouses on a table in the cabin, Melissa decided she wanted to use her free time to go for a swim. She grabbed her suit out of her suitcase and changed in the bathroom. By the time she exited, the birdhouses had been put away, and the young girl was laid down on her bed, writing in what Melissa assumed was a journal. She announced her exit, and the girl looked up and froze when her eyes met Melissa’s figure. Melissa smirked, and she might have put a little extra sway in her hips as she left the cabin. It’s not like she was doing anything, right? It was just nice to be looked at like she was wanted again. Joe hadn’t looked at her like that since long before they were even married, and here was this young little thing eyeing her like a piece of cake. She wasn’t gonna do anything, but she could enjoy the looks right?

Swimming was relaxing. Melissa had wandered down a path and found a hidden patch of beach that could comfortably fit two people. Three, if they were all short and petite. She enjoyed the seclusion, and listened to the sounds of nature around her. No one from the main beach could be seen from her little hideaway, and she had to swim pretty far out to even be able to see it. Too bad hide ‘n’ seek wasn’t one of the games because she knew she’d win with this spot. She spent her entire free hour at her new spot, and by the time she made it back to the cabin to change for dinner, everyone had already gone.

She made it to the mess hall, and stepped in line, ready for whatever they were serving tonight. She was starving. She was minding her business when she overheard a few people ahead of her in line talking, and her ears just couldn’t help themselves, they had to tune in.

“Did you guys see the girl that won the birdhouse thing?”

“She’s hot as Hell. I’d tap that.”

Melissa just rolled her eyes. Sure they weren’t wrong- Parent Trap really was a looker- but they didn’t have to be so crass. She tuned the rest of the conversation out, not wanting to hear anything that might have to make her beat the shit outta two Aspiring Ones.

She grabbed her meal of sloppy joes and a bag of chips and went to take her seat across from her own Aspiring Teacher. She was feeling a little peeved from the guys in line, but any negative feelings were forgotten as soon as Parent Trap smiled up at her. She then had to use all of her mental energy to ignore the fluttery feelings in her stomach.

“Glad you made it,” the young girl looked at Melissa in a way that the older woman could figure out.

“Me, too,” was all Melissa could muster.

Part Three

What's your modern AU about? :-)

so initially it was just a normal au, but it felt like a disservice to the original texts to take them out of their civilisation. so i thought about what it would be like if the ancient world were placed in the modern. what parts would stay, what would go, what would adapt… not so much as how countries have developed from ancient to modern, we already have that after all, but what it would look like if these ancient civilisations were modern ones.

then on top of that, of course, is a run-of-the-mill modern au. it’s (mostly) set in a highschool setting and (mostly) focuses on characters from the trojan war saga. none of the characters from the classics would be any relation to greek gods or similar parts of ancient greek religion. everyone in my modern au is mortal. no god and human intermingling (sorry zeus).

orpheus is a famous musician. patroclus’ favourite hoodie is one he got from an orpheus tour

helen is almost a head taller than menelaus

pyrrhus is achilles’ adopted half brother raised by thetis. achilles lives with peleus.

circe is still a witch but more of a ‘protective amulet’ type of witch than a ‘turn your whole army into pigs’ type

Lord Captain Xandra von Valencius, Rogue Trader of the Imperium

Following the unexpected death of Her Ladyship Theodora von Valencius and her known heir, a bladedancer named Xandra has taken the Lord Captain's seat. While she may be new to the role of Rogue Trader, Xandra von Valencius is far from a nobody. In fact, this isn't the first time she's been referred to as nobility. Prior to the reveal of her von Valencius heritage, Xandra made a name for herself as a crime lord on a hostile death world, wrangling the scattered pirates into a formidable fleet. Rumor says she ruled ruthlessly until she was captured by a rival gang. No one knows what happened to her in the 3 months she was missing, but when she returned, having single-handedly slaughtered the entire gang responsible for her capture, Xandra was changed. Having attracted much attention with her recent ascension to Lord Captain, it seems that Her Ladyship is eager not to fall into enemy hands. In addition to Xandra's own skills with blades, rumor says that she is accompanied by an eerie death cultist who never leaves her side. Will the new Rogue Trader grow the dynasty's glory, or will she be the reason the von Valencius name is struck from the history books? Time will tell if the skills she used to gain and keep control of her criminal empire will serve her well as Lord Captain. If you couldn't tell by the top half of this post, I started playing Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader a couple weeks ago. I bought the game on my birthday because it just happened to be on sale, and in the past 2 weeks I've racked up 31 hours. Which isn't much compared to my playtime in WotR when I first started playing, but it's pretty impressive given my workload. I've been having a ton of fun!! This is Xandra, and yes, she's a (space) pirate who was captured and tortured. I have a type, apparently.

I imagine that the 2nd outfit (the long coat) is her adventuring outfit (lots of pockets plus belts for weapons and such), and the other more uniform-looking outfit is her "ceremonial" outfit. (She's never going to get more formal than that.)

Also, if anyone else plays Rogue Trader and hasn't played the Void Shadows DLC, I highly recommend it. Kibellah is awesome, and the Bladedancer archetype is SO much fun to play. (Yes, I'm running a party that's 1/3rd Bladedancer Assassins. Surprisingly, it works really well. They are VERY efficient little murder machines.)
