IWTV S2 Ep2 Musings - Louis' Alimony Check from Lestat (Tentative Timeline series)

Back when I was making my S2 Timeline, one dead end that I couldn't definitively follow was WHEN did Lestat write that letter to Louis? 🤔 According to Roget, the last time he heard from Lestat was in 1940, to plan the party for Mardi Gras. So I assume Lestat wrote the letter to Louis in early 1940/late 1939, for several reasons.

Something that make me pause was THE MONEY:

Cuz that's based on REAL money:

I can't tell exactly how many banknotes were in that box, but the franc was Struggling™ esp. in Post-War France "You want francs in pockets? These people are broke!"

In 1945, approx. 120 francs = 85 cents. Meaning 1000 francs was barely scraping 100 USD, oof.

(By Oct. 1945, the average hourly wage was 34.7 francs, so if my math is right (unlikely 😅) that's like 24 cents--$4 in 2024.)

BUT! In America, $100 in 1945 would've been worth $1742 in 2024.

Now, if I SQUINT, I THINK the larger papers under the 1000 note(s) is more money?

Specifically, the 10,000 franc banknote:

French francs tended to go up in size with their value, so the 1000 note was 172x95mm, and the 10k note was 221x120mm (the largest note). So if there's at least 2 of those notes in the box going by the screencaps we got in 2x2, then I ASSUME Lestat left Louis at least 20k+ francs (approx $14k, or $244,680 in 2024 🤑).

BUT! If I understand money correctly (doubtful 😅), Lestat would've been giving Louis MORE money in American dollars, esp. if he put wired the money BEFORE THE WAR (Sept 1939 - Sept 1945). It was actually depreciating in value as it sat in Roget's office during the war, oof. (The franc never really recovered; it went obsolete when France eventually switched to the New Franc in 1959, and then the Euro in 1999/2002.)

Cuz here's the thing: Did Roget update/convert that cash? Cuz the notes in that box was recent.

That's the 1000 Francs banknote issued from 1944-1946, which, as my timeline pointed out, was the period when Charles De Gaulle was in charge of the GPRF (June 1944 - Jan 1946); "De Gaulle's Paris had me etherized!," meaning Louis & Claudia had arrived in Paris BEFORE January 1946, before those banknotes went defunct.

TL;DR: So can we assume that Lestat wrote the letter and sent Roget the money for Louis pre-September 1939?

Meaning: before WWII & France's economy tanked (so back when the money would've been worth more in France)? Then Roget updated the cash with current notes when De Gaulle took over in 1944? Cuz the French banknotes PRE-War looked way different from what's in that box:

Now...say it ain't so, Louis, but did he LEAVE THE MONEY? 💀

When Louis & Claudia moved to Paris, they pickpocketed enough to pass as "moneyed Americans;" just meaning: they could afford the overpriced black market food everyone else was rationing (but which Louis was just using as bait for the pigeons he'd eat instead).

Cuz full-sized baguettes were WAY above the size of bread rations in post-war Paris:

Sweet tooth headcannons part 3 (these were originally part of part 2 but apparently i typed too much and have to make a part 3)

A lot of the time Bear or Tiger will walk out in the morning wearing each other's clothing and Wendy looks at them like 🤨🤔🏳‍🌈 and the animal army when they come to visit looks at them like 🤨😏🏳‍🌈 much to the confusion of both Tiger and Bear who are so used to not only sharing a room but also clothing ; This is what makes Wendy start to wonder if something's going on between them and consults the animal army who encourage her to join them on their noble quest of getting these two idiots (affectionate) together.

When on a raid Rhino,Pony,and Flamingo saw these sweatshirts that said "i'm nicer than my face looks" and brought them back for Tiger and Bear which led to Bear laughing at it and Tiger not being enthused and chasing them for an hour straight ; They unfortunately still have them to this day.

The animal is trained in most weapons but they all have their preferences ; Bear with her claws,Tiger with their knife,Pony and Rhino with their crossbows and Flamingo with just throwing sharp items with perfect precision.

Pony and Tiger aren't related but over time since meeting have just developed this sibling relationship that both amuses the animal army and both amuses and annoys Flamingo.

Some of the animal army enjoys going out and doing teenage things but they mostly like doing graffiti on last men properties just to slowly piss them off ; Pony usually leads these excursions which leaves Tiger a pacing stressed out mess.

Jepp is a constant tea drinker since he's living with two teenagers,over ten hyper hybrid kids,two happy but exhausted mothers,and sometimes more teenagers so Jepp needs tea to calm himself down for this madness that he loves ; Tiger and Bear are constant coffee drinkers because that's just what they're used too but they will drink tea when talking with anyone else such as Wendy.

When cooking it's either Jepp and his assistant Gus,Tiger and Flamingo with the assistance of Bear,Tiger with Bear as the assistant who isn't allowed to touch anything or Tiger and Wendy ; Bear would join Tiger and Wendy but decided against it cause as she would put it "they're bonding and getting to know each other" when in reality it's getting to know each other and then Wendy prying details about of Tiger about their feelings for Bear.

Flamingo is very protective over who's in the kitchen because the last time someone was in the kitchen it was Rhino,Pony and Bear and they BURNED spaghetti much to the confusion and disappointment of Flamingo ; Tiger being the nice person they are gave Bear a second chance to be in the kitchen and she BURNED toast making her a assistant and in charge of cutting things since they knew she couldn't physically mess that up yet.

Jepp and Tiger will alternate when they make meals ; they do three things : one makes breakfast,one makes lunch and one makes dinner : one makes breakfast,lunch,and dinner one day the other makes breakfast,lunch,and dinner the next day ; And one makes breakfast,lunch,and dinner one week and the other does it the next week unless you're Flamingo then you're on food duty for however long you're staying (They're lucky Flamingo loves making food as much as she does).

One day Rosie and Ginger offer to teach the hybrids how to paint something which Jepp agrees to because it's entertainment for the kids and he kinda trusts Rosie ; It goes off without a hitch with the hybrids loving it and they end up doing it multiple times.

However Rosie spots something that catches her eye which is that there's definitely something going on between Tiger and Bear ; Rosie being the person that she is asks Wendy about it and finds out that she too noticed something and is apart of trying to get these two together with Rosie and Ginger joining in on this plan cause why not.

Wendy mourns Aimee's death and is able to get closer to and slowly opening up to Becky with her telling Wendy all about their parents in exchange for Wendy telling her about what it was like growing up with Aimee ; They start having these little things like automatically sharing food with each other,having pinky promises as their sign of trust and Wendy shoving both flowers and random things into Becky's pockets when she's busy ; Wendy also shoves things into Tiger's pocket's which amuses them greatly.

Jepp helps Gus deal with the death of both of his parents and is one of people he can go to when he needs to let out what he's feeling inside ; Gus and Jepp are like a duo who enjoy each other's company and enjoy building things together since it reminds Gus of the times with his Pubba.

They eventually find a super active and hyper golden retriever who can occupy and entertain the kids and let's the teenagers and the adults have some peace and calmness for once ; Jepp still has to deal with the sass and comebacks from the teenagers tho.

The animal army 100% makes sure that the hybrids get to celebrate the wonders of Halloween,Christmas,and Birthdays with it being some of the most fun the hybrids have.

They hybrids don't have much rules but Gus who hates fighting has implemented a fist bump rule when arguing and Jepp has implemented a weekly family council meeting.

Both Bear and Tiger were ready for Rosie and Jepp to hate them but they don't which catches them off guard ; Rosie understands and forgives Becky for killing Bruno and Jepp understands why Tiger tried to kill him with a tiger.

Tiger wanted to fight Abbot but with their injuries they secretly knew that they couldn't and waited with the hybrids but was again pacing when Bear and Wendy didn't show up but was eventually relieved when they saw that they looked ok.

To say Tiger was devastated when she found out that the embroidered denim vest they gave Bear for her birthday was gone was an understatement they mourned the loss of that vest for weeks since it took months to make and it was gone to never be seen again ; However when Bear was in Alaska and they were watching over the hybrids they did make Bear a embroidered denim jacket that was covered in flowers since they could tell Bear felt bad about losing the vest.

Now Bear losing her favorite red and white stripped shirt was pure devastation since that shirt was her everything to her however Tiger had an extra one and everything was alright ; The animal army still laughs at Bear's reaction to this with Bear saying that it was a very important shirt.

When Jepp,Gus,Wendy,and Becky return from Alaska thanks to Rosie's plane with all the hybrids crowding excitedly around Wendy,Jepp,and Gus wanting answers to what happened while Tiger just waited by the door knowing that Bear would be crashing into them giving them the tightest hug like she always did ; Bear did indeed do with her clinging onto Tiger nuzzling into their neck and finally feeling at home ; Tiger giving back the tightest hug and just clinging onto Bear happy that everyone was alive at least but then questioning and tracing Bear's scars that now decorated their face with Bear just replying that it was a conversation for later ; Jepp,Gus,and Wendy were busy telling stories from Alaska and let Bear know that she should rest and that they got it for now with Tiger now dragging Bear into bed with them and having her lay her head on their chest while they played with her hair and gave her the details on what happened when she was gone but that was for later since Bear feel asleep in minutes anyway.

Bear can play the acoustic guitar and Tiger wants to learn how to play the electric guitar.

The animal army lost a decent amount of remember at the zoo but a small number remained including Rhino,Pony and Flamingo who was very angered that Abbot killed most of their family but also that they injured her cooking arm and was forced to eat canned goods for weeks along with the rest of the army dealing with the grief and pain of losing their family that they've built ; One good thing was that they were able to get in contact with Tiger and start to figure out what to do now while also remembering their fallen family members.

The animal army had random face masks laying from when they did a spa day months ago and gave it to Bear to see if the hybrids wanted to try them which they did and it was as disastrous as they expected with most of it on the floor but at least the hybrids had fun with trying something new ; However Bear was able to capture a picture of Tiger wearing their bunny elastic headband which Bear still laughs at.
