I enjoy how consistent Fjord's tactics are. He's not insightful, so he has difficulty figuring people out just by observation. Instead, he acts friendly and supportive, even for morally dubious acts, because he wants to see who would do something terrible as long as they get the OK from the group. He does it in this episode while the Nein are discussing what to do about the caravan passing by. Fjord especially goads Nott to do something, then backs off once Caleb adds in that they wouldn't take such direct action, and Nott also clarifies they'd wait until the carts were left alone to steal. Fjord isn't as interested in simple thievery, but was very curious about his companions' preferences regarding violence.

Honestly, when I think about the Mighty Nein (not any specific moment, just the concept of the Mighty Nein in its entirety if that makes sense), this early portion of the episode is what I picture: the fields and hills of the empire, with the group chilling in the grass or on a wagon or up in a tree or under the shade. That image is just synonymous with these guys for me.
