the thing about trying to recommend fiction podcasts to someone who isn't familiar with them is that not only are so so many genres represented but also the level of production can fall anywhere from "basically an audiobook" to "major motion picture minus the pictures"

#original #idk just something i think about sometimes #you can read a description to get a sense of the genre/plot/vibe but you truly dont know What exactly youre getting into till you listen #with nonfiction podcasts it tends to be easier to get a read on whether its gonna be like. some buddies fucking around with a mic #or more like a whole documentary #or with fiction books there can be different framings but the actual makeup of the thing is almost always the same #idk what im saying at this point i need to stop putting so much bullshit in tags #whatever #audio drama

#fantasy high #riz gukgak #kristen applebees #gorgug thistlespring #adaine abernant #fabian seacaster #figueroth faeth #the bad kids #half tempted to say these names are forum handles they use so much it pretty much became their professional names lol #I keep them teenagers bc its funnier that way #no real lore I just like drawing this. but I do think abt how theyre all weirdos too also bc thats funny to me #riz is a huge conspiracyhead who does everything by hands. he has a casio fx-570 in mint condition. nobody knows how he's maintaining it #he is nonetheless Really Good at his job. which somewhat tracks bc it's a job that requires keeping up with interstation conflicts #and new policies and an obsessive amount of planning. but he is Too Good at it. and also he dresses like that #kristen has the atomic engine that theoretically lets her unmake and remake matters with her mind. but it consumes a huge amount #of energy so it's mostly useless. she's still a cult survivor also #gorgug lives his entire life on a ship with his parents who quit a cushy deal maintaining a space station bc he wouldn't be allowed on #the low gravity let him grow very tall but also his oxygen saturation is pretty bad so he's got breathing support #fig is a robot who just found out she's a robot like two months ago. she's been assuming everyone's a robot like her and she's been feeling #very betrayed by her mom lying about that part. she's on a body mod spree which is rough bc system-specific parts are expensive #and so is adapting random parts to her system #fabian's still a pirate captain's son. can't say anything that'd be able to get the vibes across clearer than that #adaine went to tech/business school. she put her monthly allowance towards an ecoterrorist group in her academy which turned out to be an o #and she's currently wanted by UTS. more than fabian. which makes him slightly mad #she's also acquired a passion for low-tech weaponry on the way. she likes ice picks and cleavers #I think up all of this for no reason except that once again the idea of all these people being 1/teens and 2/on the same ship to be posties #is hilarious to me. esp. if they were in a forum group chat beforehand

because I rent a car to get out to my office, sometimes I'm confronted with a radio that has wildly different preset stations than I would ever select. mostly this means I have to suffer through a lot of country, or christian talk radio, before I run out of patience and switch over to the stations I like; but other times, it's someone with a thick accent reading a very lengthy advertisement for the Chicago Public Library in an almost....computerized way? and then long carnatic music, with a celtic fiddle breakdown in the middle? with absolutely no explanation for why this is what it is.

.........only afterwards did I discover that it's the station for a nearby university. then it made sense.

#I know numbers stations are old fashioned and mostly done but that was very much the vibe.#........a while ago I was listening to a very very cool station where the interviewer was interviewing one of the attorneys #involved in the CPD consent decree #I wonder if it's the same station? that would make sense.#while driving home the other day I thought about how fun it would be to write a story where a businessman in town for a trip #rents a car and starts listening to the weird radio station presets. getting more and more into this weird station #that doesn't explain itself or name its dj. just plays the sound of the wind and music even google's never heard of.#I still think that would be neat #celestial emporium of benevolent knowledge

Merfolk have special oils in their hair that makes it waterproof! The purpose of the oils is to reduce heat loss through the head, and as a lovely bonus it makes merfolk look immediately presentable after getting out of the water. Straight from the beach to a job interview lol. If the oils are washed away or harmed, the hairs absorb water instead (which used to be a big deal like a thousand years ago when hypothermia was a very real and concrete threat, but in the modern day it's not really an issue).

Merfolk also have waterproof clothing, it's just a lot more comfortable that way. Most of the time clothing is made waterproof through spells, a method that merfolk pioneered and mastered over the centuries.

#as it turns out when you live in the water you tend to figure out very quickly how to make (human) things appropriate for the water #although merfolk are more naked than most humans are theres still a sort of expected level of presentability that they have to achieve #a part of that is clothes of course. we are all humans after all! so you must be able to wear the same clothes as everyone else #dont worry about ahti the oils will come back! his hair will return to its waterproof form in about a day UvU #fishy merfolk like ahti dont have any body hair besides for the head. but i wonder…. super hairy pinniped and otter merfolk…..#that would be a vibe #ahti II #karleeen #sirpaverse #merfolk #art #my art #im on a roll recently!!!!!

I know people have pointed this out before, but my favorite part about Spy x Family is the introduction of Twilight, masterful spy, best man on the force, intelligent, resourceful, never fails a mission, and then we get to enter the mind of this incredible man and half his thought process is just "whats that the plan is going slightly to the left of what I expected? time to Panic" and I think that's beautiful Twilight said "I'll solve this problem and it'll be fine I just have to have anxiety about it first"

#yor has this same brand of comedy but tweaked slightly #to me her vibe is much more “we'll burn that bridge when we get to it”#when yor's in Mission Mode there is not a shred of insecurity she doesn't really plan things out she's an in the moment girlie #twilight is fantastic at making plans but he loses his SHIT when they start to go belly up #and having to rely on “damn the consequences” anya for half of them is just making him go gray early #anyway I love spy x family its fantastic #spy x family #loid forger #anya forger #yor forger
