In other waters is really making me inhabit the headspace of the character you play as. Yes, I am an ai, confused by what they are, but motivated by benevolence and unending curiosity. Yes i am filled with wonder by this world I can only perceive through sensor read outs, and what is explained to me, yes I will get every sample you’re asking for so you can draw me an accurate picture of what it looks like

ough…. in other waters my beloved. i know i bring this game up constantly but guys. really. I know a lot of you are scared of the ocean, but I super recommend this game: it’s got a fantastic story, the visual style is so neat and unique, and it’s just a great experience overall. it’s a fairly short game (about 6-8 hours of playtime, depending on how fast you go) but its such a wonderful experience 

And for those of you scared, you don’t actually get to SEE the ocean. In fact, you barely see anything at all besides the main interface and topology lines. You see the world through the lens of an AI, and you get the world described to you by the person who is currently inside the suit that houses you. And you help her progress! 

This is how you see the world, all the time: 

Everything else in it is described to you by the pilot, so in a way this game has that same feeling of reading a book and imagining everything by yourself! Except you move through it on your own path, so how cool is that? 

And… the world is beautifully crafted, I love the environments, the descriptions, THE XENOBIOLOGY IS FANTASTIC. For those of you big into creature design and worldbuilding, this game is a MUST. It goes so so in depth into these things, there is a dedicated taxonomy area!!! (provided you are interested of course! it’s not integral to the story in any way, but exploring, collecting and studying samples actually rewards you with more information about the world in a very through and scientific way) 

Like check this out. it’s so neat. There’s so much to love about this game I am pleading and begging for more people to check it out. It is so lovingly crafted 

 As a very very minor “spoiler” this game is very focused on discovery, so there isnt any combat. There isn’t any imminent threat, you are simply exploring and discovering the aftermath of something. So it’s not really a stressful experience either, in case that helps sway some of you. It’s also available both on pc platforms and on switch!
