Howdy Quartz! Say I'm curious, how did u draw ur persona in twst style? :3 I'm curious since I wanna do it with my persona!! ^^
heh can i say it takes a lot of tracing and some recoloring….…… HELFP because look
look what i did to riddle and kalim……….. but anyways uhhhh It was actually supposed to be a small edit until i got into it and did the whole body and redrew the face.
but it GENUINELY takes a lot of tracing or referencing lol
okay first GET THE SYMMETRY TOOL and ONLY readjust the sizes of the pictures you’re drawing over with the small toggles I DID THIS IN IBIS PAINT bc it has that feature
I suggest picking a twst character with the facial features or face shape you’re looking for to get the vibe and draw over it because you can see how different Epel’s and Floyd’s face struture is
i used riddle for mines and used kalim and an npc to get Quartz’ height
SHE LOOKS SCARY HELP
but you basically just draw over the body. i traced over her boots bc i was lazy. i made the body more curvier bc i felt it was too skinny for quartz. I also referenced Epel’s hands completely but you can trace those too bc probably nobody cares
But if you can’t draw, I suggest you need to try or just edit the body lol. a lot of people have edited some of the twst characters into looking like their ocs so it’s nothing bad
when coloring, I think you should know that TWST or yana’s hair highlights are drawn as these diamond shapes
ok azul is such a horrible reference for this but the characters have this
thats all i got sadly bc i dont know what else advice would help 😭😭😭

Day 9 // 100dop
So. When motivation is low and I don't feel like keeping track of time, I am extremely inefficient and I don't get much done. Stayed up a bit later today to do what little more I could squeeze into the night because of that 🥲 Let's be blunt and brutally honest and say that this is very irresponsible of me.
Started lab report
Re-did notes on VB theory so it makes more sense (I hope it still makes sense to future me)
Finished notes on MO theory (I really hope it also still makes sense to future me...)
Almost done 2nd practice problem set and according to my score for some of them, I have to review dipole moments and molecule polarity (the more complex molecule shapes tend to trip me up. Sometimes it's hard to visualize without a 3D model... I tried using the MolView website but it can't seem to make octahedral molecules?? Also, I should not be lazy and ALWAYS draw out the VSEPR structures for these and not be impatient in determining the molecule's symmetry.)
Tomorrow in order of priority, I should finish:
2nd problem set + reviewing weak topics
Assignment
Lab report
Quiz
Band theory of solids
We shall see if I need a kick in the butt in the form of pomodoros (30/35 mins and 5 min breaks if the thought of longer feels "ugh") in which I will ACTUALLY take the short breaks and NOT spend them on my phone.
Day 4: What is your favourite topic within your subject(s)?
Hm, had to think about this one. I'm only taking chemistry this semester (I absolutely cannot take more than that for my sanity) and I think so far, I'd say VSEPR theory because I *LOVE* 3D models and the logic makes more intuitive sense than other topics so far and the shapes are pretty. I learned of some new ones this year and those are so far the coolest. Like, yeah spherical harmonics/orbitals are even cooler than VSEPR...but the quantum mechanics and all that math surrounding them is such a pain in the butt. If I understood the math (which would probably take years), maybe that would be my favorite topic. But VSEPR takes the cake for now. Plus it's a cool acronym. I need more synonyms for "cool".

BORROWER GORDON AND LITTLE BENREY COMPLETE!!!!
I’m so glad I finished, these two took a while- and I promised myself I wouldn’t touch it anymore so no more adjustments gbyfhdsss
my process of sketch to complete under the cut!
First I do my sketch, which can range from general lines to more detailed like I did here! I don’t really use the artist skeletons for poses I’m used to using, but they do help with proportions. I still used the line down the face for symmetry and circled the heels! If I’m doing dynamic poses, or ones with different perspective than head-on, I’ll use the full reference skeleton and round it out with circles to get a feeling before I set in on solidifying the sketch. Since these designs are character concept and the sketches are pulled from individual ref sheets, I went with whatever I thought was cool at the time. Then I darkened what I was set on having with my pencil tool. (I use FireAlpaca, and work with 2px-5px brushes)
This is the stage where I also take into account any changes, like removing Benrey’s boots here. I didn’t get a shot of how I changed them, but essentially I took the same approach as with on paper. Erase and get a general shape down, then check it against the rest of the design.
Next is the line art layer, where I trace all the outlines first. Big creases, edges, places where material changes and dark shadows are first. I used a 5px pen for these lines, and it looks nice and clean compared to the sketch when I’m done! As I line, I make my final decisions on what I’m including. I removed stitches and lines that I didn’t feel were needed to get the point across, as well as leaving out the extra square of padding on Gordon’s chest armor. I also added a few more seams to Benrey’s pants, to get a more patched-together feel. Then I started using (very lazy at some points) hatching to denote shadows. This is important for me because I have a tendency to not darken and blend my shadows enough. It leaves my lighting to look very flat, so I force myself to take into account more drastic shades by adding in the dark brown I use for lining. This layer takes the most time, and it’s where I get pickiest. When I color, I’ll still be going back and adjusting the hatching to blend more smoothly with whatever tone I’m using. At that point, I usually shrink my pen down to 3px.
This is usually when I erase my sketch to color on the layer under the line art, but this time I added a new layer and moved it under to keep the sketch!
I do my general flats, comparing the tones to where I want to draw attention to! I want Benrey’s eyes to stand out, so I use a cold yellow and (nearly neon) blue against faded browns and red toned shadows. With soft dark blues and the bright red of his Coke can armor, the Little’s skin tone is a bit less unnatural than if I used green and yellow. I want to draw attention away from Gordon’s lack of facial hair, since in this AU, Gordon is trans and doesn’t have a beard (yet.). Even though I knew from the start that I was going to be running with this, beardless Gordon still looks weird to me. So I grabbed a relatively bright tan and orange compared to the rest of him for his shirt. Lucky for me, this also emphasized the creases and how ill-fitting Gordon’s clothes are. I used straight greys for the metal knee and shin guards on Gordon, which ended up looking very blue next to the browns and tone of his pants.
All of my shading is happening at the same time. I use the default watercolor brush with a size of 2px to 15px and blend as much as I can. For stitches or tiny areas surrounded by an overwhelming color, I go back to the 4px pen. I color pick by picking out the edges of the line art on top of the color and go with that since it’s usually a lot darker and shades quickly.
During the whole process, if I’m feeling something’s off, I get a second opinion from an outside source. It’s helped me avoid some really awkward art!
Aaaand that’s my drawing process!

reimagined costumes for kako and meiyui. another pair of girls i have no particularly strong feelings for, but i wanted to take a crack at them.
thoughts behind their designs (mostly meiyui) below:
for kako i have little to say. i think her costume is generally fine. it has a decent color scheme, i like her jacket, and her weapon is fine. (i thought about giving her a “page turner” as a new weapon, but designs are so varied and generic that itd be hard to tell what it even was.) the “problem” i wanted to fix was mostly her asymmetry and the busyness of her design. definitely less busy than akira, but still. i also just have a vendetta against leg asymmetry, like with ren and to a lesser extent the amane sisters. so i gave kako ribbons on BOTH her legs, then went the extra mile and gave her geta sandals.
her colors are muted because i was playing around with hues and just found that they suited her better as a meek, kinda oldschool kid. i gave her a flower crown because of my aforementioned penchant for symmetry, and i thought it would be cute and fitting. in retrospect i shouldve just made them different flowers. as they are now, i think they are just okay.
in general kakos reimagination serves a couple specific purposes, and not much else. im not in love with it, but i think it suits her.
OKAY. MEIYUI. lets address the elephant in the room. she is almost unrecognizable. and to that i say, “fair.” a more faithful and modest meiyui redesign wouldve been much easier. here, ill tell you what id do: eliminate the dumb slit skirt and replace with leggings or pants. keep the top. trash the FUCKING miku sleeves to show off her genuinely pretty cool hand armor, which is designed well and matches akira. there, the costume is already better without much work. but its still uninspired.
heres the issues i have with meiyui. lazy, unimaginative qipao thats just a stereotype of chinese dress. her colors are ALL the same, she is so uninteresting to look at, the eye is drawn nowhere. her silhouette is bland. too many frills. her weapon is honestly okay, but it doesnt really suit her, and it suits this reimagination even less. so i gave her a new one. “you also changed her hair,” you say. yes. no particular reason. i DID draw the longer braids, but found they looked stupid and erased them. i needed to keep the buns as one of two features that tell you this is still meiyui.
when i was looking up references for inspiration, my mind went a million places. traditional chinese dress, ancient chinese armor, pirate costumes, etc. eventually i struck gold when i rediscovered ching shih, a legendary chinese pirate queen who terrorized the seas. heres where i realized, “oh, i can play off of the ‘blue seas’ part of her family/wish.” so meiyui is modeled very heavily off of ching shih as a result. she wears the coat and armor heavily influenced by her and other chinese pirates of the time. for decorative flair, i gave her the belt portion of a shenyi.
because she is now pirate/sea themed, i gave her a harpoon as a weapon. a rapier or other pirate sword couldve also worked. she still has belled sleeves, so the manner in which her doppel emerges still works. actually, i think delanna would look very nice paired with this version of meiyui. they are both made up of a dark patchwork of colors.
overall, i think this gives a good portrayal of a girl who is serious, pragmatic, slow to trust, but is still seen as a reliable, trustworthy, and honest member of her community. pirates can be either robin hood figures or full on menaces to society, which i think fits well with the evolution of the blue seas family over time. theres a bit of lawlessness in her design, but also the formality and dignity of a soldier.
thats all this round folks! team nanaka has received a full makeover except for nanaka herself.... who honestly i have no issues with lol, besides maybe an overabundance in magenta. ;P

bmaahd 13 preview + anniversary post
Today (well, yesterday in some time zones, but today in mine!) marks the one-year anniversary of @iruutciv's and my Yuri On Ice + Detective/Noir AU, But Monsters Are Always Hungry, Darling ♥♥♥
Gosh, but how did this even start? I'd tried my hand at writing noir before, in another fandom that I'm now no longer a part of. I didn't finish it, but the idea of wanting to play with that universe never really went away, even chasing me through the next couple of fandoms that I flirted with. Well, I remember talking to Iru about it on tumblr, though I had absolutely no plans of actually writing it out at the time. Iru then thought it was a good idea to bribe me by basically saying: 'if you write it, I will draw it!'
Well - long story short, here we are, 12 chapters (soon to be 13!) in, a little over halfway through this story that's kind of morphed into a monster of its own. We can't thank you enough for all of the support that this story has gotten, and the love that we've received from the readers who've connected with us, yelled out speculations and predictions to us, and just kept urging us to press on. I can't speak for Iru, but I don't think I could have continued to undertake such a huge project without you all, so thank you. Thank you so, so much! We love you, and we hope the rest of this story - which will probably take us to the end of 2019 - will live up to all of your expectations, and be worthy of your love.
Anyway, without further ado: here is the official preview for BMAAHD Chapter 13, scheduled to go out on either the 29th or 30th of December, to close out 2018. ^_^
“You didn’t have to gamble like that at all.” Viktor glanced up to meet Yuuri’s eyes, curious to see if he could guess what the other man was thinking. This usually wasn’t so hard for him. But Yuuri was an anomaly that way. Maybe he’d always been. “Twenty’s a hell of a good hand.”
“You could have still beaten me,” Yuuri said. “If your other card was an ace.”
“And what do you think the chances of that were?”
Yuuri shrugged. “I suppose that’s something I really ought to work on, then - knowing to quit while I’m ahead.” A soft, lazy smile stretched out across his face, as he leaned back in his chair, and pulled out his cigarette case from an inside pocket. “Take the win, Viktor. Claim your prize.”
He watched, silent as Yuuri lit his cigarette. It took him three tries to do it, and Viktor wondered at that moment if that was yet another testament to his luck, or lack thereof. Then again, three tries for a light to take didn’t quite equate with three cigarettes lit from the same match. But there was an eerie symmetry there, completely lost in Yuuri’s calm, sated expression.
Yuuri raised an eyebrow, and - right. His prize.
What would he ask about, at a time like this? With the honesty of Yuuri’s answer guaranteed by his promise, Viktor was of course tempted to ask about that orphanage - what had set off that fire, perhaps? Or he could ask what exactly had happened to Yuuri after his days there, because from the documents he’d found that sketched an outline of the rest of the doctor’s life, this was only blind spot that spanned years. Then there was a question that had been sitting unanswered since they’d first met, the simplest one no doubt, but also one that carried the most risk of coming out to be in poor taste: how had Dr. Yuuri Katsuki, who’d abruptly aborted his own career as a surgeon before it could have even begun, and slotted himself into a field of medicine that was relatively new and unknown around these parts, amassed such a massive amount of wealth?
Viktor could have gone with any of those questions, or any of a hundred more. But instead, he found himself asking, “Would you really leave everything here behind - your practice, your friends, your prestige - and run away with me? If I asked you to?”
Yuuri, without even batting an eyelid, murmured, "I would leave in a heartbeat if I could."
"But…” And he’d remembered as much from their first visit to the beach house. “You can't yet."
"Not now. Not until I’ve repaid all of my debts."
Of course. Viktor knew a thing or two about unpaid debts, albeit only his own. He had no idea what Yuuri had still hanging over his head, and who or what entity might have been holding the other end. And maybe he would find out one day, but for now, he only hoped it was nowhere near as bad as the debts Viktor had on his account. He hoped, earnestly, that Yuuri had not done anything so foolish as he once had, and made a deal with the devil of his own.
“You said to ask you again, once you finish your case. Do you remember?” When Viktor nodded, Yuuri asked, “If by that time, I still haven’t completed my… obligations…” He hesitated. “Would you wait for me?”
“Of course,” Viktor said. "We'll go when you're ready.”
“Or when you are. Whoever finishes last, the other waits.” Yuuri smiled. “We'll leave together."

Hi bluechocowitz any tips on how you draw character/body?
I could try?? givin some tips?? i’m really not the best at these things but these are just how i draw my characters. Best way to look for the Best™ Style for you is to explore yourself and see which one you’re most comfortable with!
and since this is how i draw, i’ll be using the skeleboys
oh yeah this is gonna be a super long post so i’ll put it under a thing before it gets too long ahaha
first thing is to draw the basic anatomy of em, is it called anatomy? gjhf
the base of it! there. So the my process (by color) is purple, green, pink, blue.
The purple lines provide some sorta line of symmetry. for the it looks nice purposes. and also the head ball, which i think is super important!! these two will set up things like height, direction in which the character is facing, and other stuff like that.
next are the green parts! that’s for the lineart. but i started with the head first cause that’s what i usually use to plot out the the pink and blue lines. it gives something to compare to, size-wise! with this, your shoulder lengths will be more accurate, your legs wont be shorter than the neck, and etc!
I always put the eyes along the horizontal purple lines! to show where they’re facing, and the vertical ones help me place the nose! different characters have different head shapes tho! like these two for instance
one is round and the other is more humanoid. which is mostly their jaws playin this part!
also i heard people do this but i don’t but i wanna try it so
i guess providing height specifications are also a head’s ability wowie
next! The pink lines!! This is what i use to actually draw the lineart. if i really wanted to draw which i almost never use actually
they should be self explainatory, it puts a base on the size o’ their bodies; neck, chest, hips, waist, legs and feet. Though the thing to keep in mind is the symmetry again. usually i just flip the canvas and see if something’s off, find the something, fix it!
next are the blue lines, which technically fall into the same spectrum as pink lines but!! i like to play with the blue lines more often so i separated it. why ar
i found this trick!! to drawing arms!! where you basically Pythagoras your way through it.

I made papy taller, and changed a few other things… but hey! that happens a lot. but while i did this, the only sketch parts i did? were uh
that. because i was being lazy.
so in conclusion!! sketching a lot helps!!! it makes it nicer!!! but sometimes mistakes are made and that’s okay!! fix it!! even when not so much sketching is needed(??)
other misc advice i can give besides this confusing post is to look at a lot of references, practice, look at how anatomy works, and ask plenty of questions!
i hope this helped somehow hahahe

WHAT MICROSOFT IS THIS THE LADDER
You often can't tell yourself. And for programmers the paradox is even more pronounced: the language to learn, if you get bored halfway through and start making the bricks mechanically instead of observing each one, the drawing will look worse than if you had merely suggested the bricks. So why did I need it? You'd think that would work for any kind of taste. And in retrospect, it was crap. Though strictly speaking World War II was an extreme case of this. Some switched from meat loaf to tofu, and others by playing zero-sum games.
So you spread rapidly through all the colleges. Strange as it sounds, that's the real recipe. Although empirically you're better off using the organic strategy, you could succeed this way. Some of the very best ideas. The discoverer is entitled to reply, why didn't you? A lot of startups have that form: someone comes along and makes something for a group that doesn't include you, it tends to be a bit smarter to dominate Internet search than you had to be suitable for everyone. It's hard to trick professors into letting you into grad school.
What would they like to do it for free, in their spare time, and take day jobs as waiters to support themselves? It would seem a misnomer if someone said they were very determined to do something trivially easy. And the flattening effect wasn't limited to those under arms, because the main cost in software startups is people. Sometimes you need an idea now. We had a page in our site trying to talk merchants out of doing real time authorizations. You might also want to look at the employment agreement you sign when you get hired.1 This turns out to be big like Microsoft.
The founders of Kiko, for example. All parents tend to be more interesting than one without. Serious applications like databases are often trivial and dull technically if you ever suffer from insomnia, try reading the technical literature about databases while frivolous applications like games are often very sophisticated.2 Plus if you find someone else working on the same thing, they got it at the same time, as their next door neighbors.3 Often they care a lot about their pets and spend a lot of email, or because they saw a movie star with one in a magazine, or because it's hard to imagine anything more fun to work on certain things. Several well-known startups began this way. Prestige is the opinion of anyone beyond your friends. Good design is often daring.4 Working from life is that it lets you jump over obstacles. That form of fragmentation, like the others, is here to stay.5 Any really good new idea will seem bad to most people; otherwise someone would already be doing it.
If there is such a thing. It could be because it's beautiful, or because they know VCs aren't interested in such small deals. So what less ambitious professors do is turn off the filters that usually prevent you from seeing them. But if opinion is divided in such discussions, the side that knows it would lose in a vote will tend to err on the side of money.6 For most of the great advantage of school: the wealth of co-founders. Good design is timeless. If you just start doing stuff for them, so that is a good idea to Mark Zuckerberg as because he used computers so much. I used to think the good ones, at least now, the reason Google survived to become a good hacker? Math would happen without math departments, but it would work for any kind of work ends up being done by people who don't understand it.
Like a lot of schleps, you'll still have plenty dealing with investors, hiring and firing people, and I suspect the human brain is just as lumpy and idiosyncratic as the human body. But if you're living in the future had few fonts and they weren't antialiased. I'm in debt. If you're at the leading edge of a rapidly changing field, you don't even notice an idea unless it's evidence that something is worth doing, you're more likely to be right than original. And as the Duplo world of a few giant companies dominating each big market. She assumed the problem was one that needed to be solved though. For example, thinking about getting a job will make you happiest over some longer period, like a well.7 VCs are driven by consensus, not just within their firms, but within the VC community. Some of the smartest people around you are professors. I'm old enough to remember that era; the usual term for people with their own microcomputers was hobbyists. I would never use this. Or is it just something nice?
It's a matter of pride, and a pretty striking example it is. This one may not always be true. The main reason they all acted as if they enjoyed their work was presumably the upper-middle class tradition comes from.8 Look around you and see what the smart people seem to be working for them. The purchase price is just the beginning. Not only was this work not for a class, but because it didn't seem ambitious enough. When I told the fearsome Professor Conway that I was interested in AI a hot topic then, he told me I could be whatever I wanted when I grew up, the ambitious plan was to get lots of education at prestigious institutions, and then gradually refine this initial sketch.9 There is something to this tradition, and not just because you don't have to force yourself to do it well. It all evened out in the end, wow, this is a bit of a fib. A lot of them try to make relativity strange. But if your job is to design things, and sometimes it's a sign of laziness.10
Which inevitably, if unions had been doing their job tended to be asymmetric about major axes, though; there were hundreds of minor symmetries. Be ruthlessly mercenary when you start doing this though: you're trying to see things that are obvious, and yet that you hadn't seen. It depends on what the meaning of is is. And the best paying jobs are most dangerous, because they didn't have materials or power sources light enough the Wrights' engine weighed 152 lbs.11 The market doesn't give a shit how hard you worked.12 People who didn't care much for religion felt less pressure to go to grad school, you'll find valuable ones just sitting there waiting to be implemented. The alarming thing is, the mistakes that produce these regrets are all errors of omission. In Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Robert Pirsig says: You want to know how to solve it. Why not start a startup with someone you like, and that's frightening. Yuppies were young professionals who made lots of money? Business schools like to talk about startups, but philosophically they're at the opposite end of the year I couldn't even remember what else I had stored in that attic.
Notes
It did.
IBM is the only significant channel was our own, like speculators, that all metaphysics between Aristotle and 1783 had been raised religious and then a block or so, even if it's dismissed, it's not inconceivable they were forced to stop, the average car restoration you probably do make everyone else microscopically poorer, by decreasing the difference is that we're not.
So by agreeing to uncapped notes, VCs who understood the vacation rental business, A.
Com of their upbringing in their experiences came not with the exception of the VCs buy, because those are the most part and you start to spread from.
Parents move to suburbs to raise five million dollars in liquid assets are assumed to be important ones.
Sam Altman points out that this was the capital of Silicon Valley. But a couple hundred years ago it would have expected them to lose elections. I apologize to anyone who has them manages to find the right to do this with prices too, and that you decide the price, and earns the right to do some research online. Another advantage of startups that are hard to predict precisely what would our competitors had known we were working on such an idea is bad.
Become increasingly easy to get the people working for me do more than half of 2004, as accurate to call the Metaphysics came after meta after the first question is not economic inequality is a fine sentence, but for a reason. If a company they'd pay a premium for you, however, is not always as deliberate as its sounds.
There are people whose applications are perfect in every way, I mean forum in the same reason 1980s-style knowledge representation could never have come to you as employees by buying good programmers instead of bookmarking. Does anyone really think we're as open as one could do as some European countries have done well if they'd survived. Who is being put through an internal process in their early twenties. Acquirers can be times when what you're doing.
It's probably inevitable that philosophy will suffer by comparison, because spam and legitimate mail volume both have distinct daily patterns. Turn on rice cooker.
17. I think the reason the founders lots of potential winners, which made it to colleagues. According to Michael Lind, when they say that it might seem, because the processing power you can eliminate, do not try too hard to erase from a company's culture. It was revoltingly familiar to slip back into it.
Even now it's hard to think of ourselves as investors, but I'm not sure. Two possible and not least, as accurate to call you about an A round. Some, like speculators, that probably doesn't make A more accurate predictor of low salaries as the cause. Give the founders of Google to do it well enough to be redeveloped as a process.
The knowledge whose utility drops sharply as soon as no one trusts that.
Thanks to Robert Morris, Rajat Suri, Sam Altman, Trevor Blackwell, Geoff Ralston, Paul Buchheit, and Jessica Livingston for inviting me to speak.

Also warning for those who are a bit squeamish: there's some vomiting towards the end of this chapter. You won't miss anything plot heavy by skipping over it. But the gist of that section (if you had to skip it) is that Une is a badass and still very much a strong woman and I tried to imply she's been there helping with Treize for a while when nobody else was. I hope that came through. Also Zechs is easily grossed out.

Hello, yes, hi, I recently found your art and account and I love what you do. I'm turning 14 in April and I've asked for a drawing pad, but I have no idea how to use one as of yet. Have you got any tips or anything? Because I've wanted to try digital art for a while and your art makes me want to even more lmao. Thanks! - B.A.
BOI OH BOI DO I GOT SOME TIPS FOR U
(I’m not sure what kind of comp you’re going to be using, so I’ll list for both.)
FIRST: Drawing Programs; the free and the great.
-Firealpaca: Lightweight drawing program. I draw Recovery using this! It’s easy on the RAM if you have a weak comp/are paranoid about yours like I am, it is mainly for basic comic making, and has all the basic brushes you need (pen/pencil/airbrush/symmetry/etc). You can add your own brushes as well but they’re p basic settings. Has basic Animation/Gif making as well using Onion Mode! Layout is a piece of cake. Please note that If you leave it open for a week it’ll crash on you, even if you haven’t anything on it at the moment, and sometimes the brush sensitivity just stops working so you just have to close and then open it again. (Also I have no idea how to update it aside from deleting it completely and just downloading the new version from scratch, so thats a thing.) Mac/Windows
-MedibangPaint: This is basically FireAlpaca But Better. Has tons of screen tones, brush patterns, and tools. I don’t use it much because I’m used to FA’s layout and get confused with the the placement of tools in here, so if you can I highly suggest just going with this first. Also has basic animation/gif making! Has storage for the website as well, and you can upload more preset brushes. It’s v anime. This program has waaay more in terms of basically everything, so it just takes more RAM. NBD, you don’t have to have every brush downloaded from the storage ^u^. Mac/Windows
-Clip Studio Paint: Okay this one isn’t free, it’s a pricey one, HOWEVER once a year they take the price way fuckin down by at least 75%. Sign up for the email list and it’ll let you know when that precious day comes. It’s how I got it @u@, around christmastime? This program is basically MedibangPaint On Steroids. I do all of my digital-yet-tradition-style-painting on here! The brushes all have some neat af settings to play with, you can make your own brushes, has tons of screen tones, pre-made panels, and settings. You can save projects as basically anything you need, is a hardy program that almost never crashes, and It’ll take a nice chunk of space on your comp depending on how much memory you have but hey, its worth it. It’s much more complex layout-wise than the other two here, but you get used to it after playing around and watching tutorials haha.
-Mischief: It’s a 25$ app, has like four brushes and five layers only but is vector-based with an endless canvas. Not really worth having unless you like the vector thing. UP TO YOU. I spent forever with this one doing all that homestuck stuff, so it’s not really bad so much as it is a basic bitch. Mac
-MyPaint: I used this a bunch when I still did digital art on my windows laptop before I upgraded to a Mac. It’s easy on the comp and has plenty of brushes and settings. You can also get brush packages if you don’t feel like you have enough that comes with the program! Also has endless canvas; pretty sure you can just select an area and then export as is. I barely remember the rest but It’s pretty great. Windows/MacPorts(which I hate)
-GIMP: I hate this thing. I cannot figure it out for the life of me. It’s got loads of shit though, can handle layers, has plenty of brushes, and can do basic animation/gifs if you ever figure it out. Windows/mac
I’ve heard good things from paint tool SAI and Krita as well, but have never used them myself.
***You can always pay through the nose/use a student discount for the photoshop series and pay that shit monthly, those fuckers have literally everything, but I am a cheap college kid making minimum wage with a car payment; I’d rather just pay once/not at all.
TABLETS: treat that shit like a newborn babe 24/7
-I have literally only ever owned a Wacom Intuos4. It has lasted me six years, and at least five moves across many miles. I broke one of the cord ports the day I opened it by holding it wrong, have one left, and now treat it like it’s going to die if the cord moves badly. Please be aware that if you break both ports, you better either sodder it back together yourself or upgrade to smth else because it costs about as much as the tablet itself was bought at to be fixed. Good news, though, it comes with at least six extra pen nibs, has programable buttons on the side (that I have never bothered to use) and a scroll bar in case you’re too lazy to use the keyboard (…I don’t really use that either unless I’m just scrolling through tumblr LMFAO).
-I would die for a Cintiq.
HOT TIPS: its useful.
-most of the programs listed use the same keyboard shortcuts. MEMORIZE THEM. It’s pretty easy, since you’ll use em a lot. [cntrl/cmmd+T] lets you resize what you just drew on that layer, and [cntrl/cmmd+z] is undo. I use those the most, for obvious reasons.
-vector-based programs are pretty great because when you resize an image it looks prefect. You can’t do that with a program that isn’t, so I just resize the base roughdraft and draw the lineart again on the layer above so I don’t get weird JPEG quality lines.
-You can use a ruler with your tablet, just slap it on and go, but honestly most programs have settings for that. just use those.
-You can also trace stuff on your tablet, so long as the paper isn’t too thick. I just scan/take a photo and then open it up in the program, though. much easier.
-SAVE CONSTANTLY. Art programs like to crash on you, even when they’re hardy and you have a good comp. make it a habit to quick save your work.
-Use a desk and have good posture. You’ll be able to draw a hell of a lot longer if you do. I personally keep fucking up my knees by sitting on my legs as I work out of habit, and don’t actually have a desk chair. Keep your screen at eye level and at a fair distance to prevent eyestrain and also neck-strain haha
-Chances are you won’t be used to the tablet right away. Most places you buy from say it’ll take a couple of months to get used to how weird it is to draw while not looking at your own hand, so don’t be frustrated If your drawings look a bit off at first.
-if you draw at least one thing every day, by the end of the year you’ll have improved exponentially. I literally made this blog to make myself draw once a day.
-don’t be afraid to check out speedpaints and tutorials. It’s always good to get more familiar with the program you’re using and new techniques previously unconsidered.
-get familiar with clipping layers. They are insanely useful; you clip one layer to the one below and then when you draw it only shows up on the drawing of that layer below. Shit is a godsend if you’re bad at coloring in the lines/lazy. The bucket tool is also really useful, and you can adjust the expansion by pixel so you don’t miss anything between the lines.
-experiment with your brushes, shit be fun af
-warmup your wrists before and after drawing. prevent swollen veins and such. dont want hand pain/numbness, its reaaaaally bad.
—basically if your hands hurt stop for the day.
-PNGS are for internet, JPEGS are for printing/fucking with quality (cough hack homestuck)
-resolution doesn’t have to be much more than 350 dpi if its just going to be on a webpage. Maximize that shit if you’re going to be printing, though. Especially if you put stuff on redbubble.
-DeviantArt has this thing called Sta.sh where you can dump art, keep it in perfect quality and just share it with certain people with a link instead of all of the website. Great for storing commission pieces, its the only reason I have DA in the first place.
-you get a different audience depending on what site you use for posting art, so keep that in mind for the kind of feedback you want.
-after awhile of drawing using a tablet, you may lose patience/forget that in traditional art there isn’t an undo button lmfao It’s cool; you don’t have to choose one over the other or anything.
-Honestly you can work around almost anything. You just invent new ways and techniques for yourself and you’ll do just fine.
Aaaaand that’s all I got for today! Thanks for sticking around

Oh, and because apparently nobody wanted to know anything from that artist ask post, here’s all the answers anyway:
Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital? I actually feel a lot more comfortable with sketching and lines in traditional, but I've been spoiled by digital tools for coloring and refining. I'd say digital for now since I don't have a good means to do traditional lines and then transfer them to PC for coloring; no room for a scanner and too lazy to clean up a photo. How long have you been drawing? Technically since pre-school, but I started drawing seriously with intent to improve in 6th grade, which was 1997-1998, so about 20 years. :> How many classes have you taken? I took technically four years in high school, but the teacher didn't so much teach drawing techniques as she did nurture students' existing abilities and provide challenges, usually in the form of prompts and different mediums. I also took one summer in college that was an introductory course that didn't really teach me anything I didn't already know, I just had to take it as compulsory 'diversification' (since I was majoring in biology). It probably helped a lot, though, in the sense that it forced a lot of still life drawing, something that's of great value to all artists that I tend to shun because it's 'boring' and such, which is a very bad mentality to have, haha. Do you have a DeviantArt, personal website, or art blog? I have a DevArt (Daimera) but it's defunct and I will never update it again. It's a good way to see how I've grown, though, since it goes back pretty far and I haven't deleted much, only hidden a bunch of my original character art due to annoying children and art thieves. My dedicated art blog now is artslush here on Tumblr. What’s your favorite thing to draw? Whatever I'm having fun with at the time! Usually monsters, but not always! What’s your least favorite thing to draw? Realistic people. Realistic anything. Seriously, just take a photo. How often do you use references? Much less than I probably should. Do you draw professionally, or just for fun? Just for fun. Not sure if I'd enjoy drawing professionally; if it becomes my job I fear I may grow to resent one of my only forms of enjoyment. How much time do you spend drawing on an average day? Not nearly long enough. Are you confident about your art? I'm sort of see-sawing. I'm happy with my art from my own perspectives and relative to where I'd like to be, but I know I'm nowhere near good compared to actual professionals. I just try not to let it bother me. How many art-related blogs do you follow? Considering I came to Tumblr because of art blogs (or blogs of people who do art on occasion even if it's not their main theme), do you really want me to go and manually count them? ... Really...? Ugh, okay... ... ... ...62. ...What? I like to keep a clean dashboard! Is it okay for people to ask you about your process? It is but you're not gonna get a particularly great answer! I have some videos up on YouTube, mostly long streams though. Do you prefer to keep your art personal, or do you like drawing things for other people? Mostly personal now. I used to draw way more for others in the past, but when I started attracting the attention of a younger and more entitled crowd (not gonna say who but if you've been there you know), I've become more and more reclusive out of the desire to just not have to deal with the drama of kids trying to guilt me into doing free art for them. "I love your work! See, I've complimented you! You owe me now! You've done free art for others, so why not meee???! Wow, you're such a horrible person! I'm going to treat you like garbage and tell everyone what an awful person you are for not giving me free stuff or reciprocating my 'kindness' to you!!" Maybe I'm overreacting or projecting, but it's something I just want to avoid, even if it's not likely to happen. I just can't deal with that kind of trash. Do you ever collaborate with others? I think I've only done a small handful of collabs, and even then, it was more "someone did a black and white pic for me for reason A or B and I decided to color it", or someone seeing lineart I’ve done and going “Hey, that’ s awesome! Can I color it? :D” I don’t think I’ve ever been in on a project that was a collab from the get-go. How long does an average piece take you to complete? Depends on the complexity, I'm fairly impatient so I prefer to take as little time as possible, preferably in one sitting split up by short breaks. I'd say 3-6 hours? I get VERY disheartened if I spend a lot of time on something only for it to not get attention proportionate to the effort I'd put in. Do you draw more today than you did in the past, or do you draw less? Less, unfortunately. I was a lot more confident and dedicated back in the day until art students I'd surrounded myself with destroyed my drive with their self-destructive attitudes. I felt very "Well, they're way better than I will ever be and they think their work is garbage, what hope do I have of ever being anything more than what amounts to worse than garbage?" I don't feel that way now, but I was never able to pick my momentum back up fully after hitting that wall. Do you think you’re justified in giving other people art advice? No, but I often find myself being asked for it anyway, haha. What are you currently trying to improve on? Nothing specifically, though I'm trying to make single character pieces slightly more dynamic than "character standing there in default idle pose." I'm not fully successful, but baby steps. What is the most difficult thing for you to draw? Backgrounds and sensible lightsourcing. What is the easiest thing for you to draw? Nonsensical eldritch monsters. Do you like to challenge yourself? Not really. I'm very much a comfort zone person. Are you confident that you’re improving steadily? Yep! It's a very slow steadily though, haha. Do you draw more fanart, or more original art? Lately it's been more fanart; it gets more attention more quickly, and I find it more satisfying to draw something when I know more people like it. It's a double-edged sword, though; if people are clearly liking the content simply for being that content rather than for being my art of that content, I start feeling bitter. See: me any time half-assed Pokemon fanart of mine that I don't even think is all that good gets stupidly popular. Do you feel jealous when you see other people’s art, or inspired? (Be honest!) I used to, and on occasion I will on certain very specific kinds of designs (usually mechanical and cybernetic), but for the most part it's counter-productive to hold a bar high with the work of others and expect to achieve that. All it does is lead to despair. Do you like to draw in silence, or with music? MUSIC. I have a lot of playlists, and they're usually game-based. For digital artists: what program(s) do you use? I used to use OpenCanvas predominantly, but now I use Manga Studio. I'll occasionally touch up in an ancient copy of Photoshop 7. I occasionally dabble in Krita, especially if I want live symmetry. For sprites, I usually use Photoshop for the initial, and ImageReady to animate, but lately I've been trying to switch over to PyxelEdit. If I want to do animating that's not pixels, I use Pencil2D, but you'll almost never get to see my failures there, hahaha. For digital artists: how many layers does a typical piece require? Back when I was using OpenCanvas, which only had 'transparent' layer styles (Add, Multiply, Subtract), I'd usually have very few, and a lot of those habits held. Often times my layer flow looks like: - Lines - Highlight details - Broad highlight - Shadows - Color - Sketch And sometimes I'll just add one or two additional glowy or shadow detail layers to that. This is usually per-character, so multi-character pics will double what's there for the most part. If there's a background, though, expect like five thousand layers, lol. What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist? My head is filled with a lot of crap, and I just want other people to kind of share in that. Since I'm not great with words on a descriptive level, drawing the things I see in my mind is the next best thing to magically gaining the ability to transmit my thoughts and mental images to others, lol. The better I am, the better I can get those ideas across.

“Fires of the Sun, Part 4″ Thoughts
I really need to go back and re-edit IM one of these days. Just rereading Fires of the Sun is making me cringe by how many mistakes there are. No, it's not a Deep Within scene! Why does it begin with a Deep Within?
Anyway, if I recall, that opening bit with Rumia was intended as a touch-base sort of thing. I had noticed that once Rin had let her go, she had started to fade into the background, and given her importance before that, I didn't want her to just slip off completely. I think her bit with getting threatened by Sakuya was partially created to at least give her something to do, even if it was more as a prop than anything. But it's been months so I don't really remember. At least it helped remind everyone of those bugs Wriggle sent out for help, so it's not like it was completely filler.
Funny thing about writing crises though: you kinda need them to keep going until you've hit that climatic finish. Which means any solution that would solve the crisis for the characters prematurely needs to be denied in some manner. That's honestly what that conversation between Sakuya and her allies was at least in part about: them reviewing any possible path that would cause the readers to go, "Wait, why don't they just do such-and-such?" and come up with a reason why they can't. Or have them try one workable idea only to slam the door in their face. Characters are annoyingly tenacious at times, and on occasion you do have to go the extra mile to herd them. Though if I recall, Kurumi did present some issues in that her vampiric needs had to be addressed frequently. Can't go into sunlight? Okay, that makes for a good reason for them not to flee through a window. But she's probably blood starved and I do not want her jumping onto one of the other kids and sucking them dry. Well, Sakuya probably came with some blood prepared, and she's likely to be empathetic toward vampire children, so that solves that. But yeah, part of writing these big scenes with lots of moving parts is foreseeing issues that'll get in the way and counter them ahead of time.
If I recall, I was constantly annoyed by the Dragon battles, and only went back to find some new way to keep them at bay. And I'll admit, it did get a little sloppy at times. I don't know what it says about me that I found writing a gigantic battle between Dragons and plant monsters to be tedious. I guess I just like my violence up close and personal.
Fortunately, Rin and Yuuka provided plenty of that. Rin's thoughts in that first clash mirrored my own, in that it felt so gratifying to pound Yuuka's face into pulp. I swear to God, the problems I've had with that character. To use a pro wrestling metaphor, she's that big star that's a huge draw and will guarantee sell-outs for your venue, but is just a whiny, spotlight stealing diva behind the scenes that you almost hate yourself for giving into them all the time, and yet you keep bringing them back because they sell tickets and try to make them look great. But then you finally get some leverage and don't need them anymore, trick them into a match that makes them look like a chump, and smirk from behind the curtain when your new top guy roughs them up. That's what that whole bit felt like. Yuuka really did help put this story on the map. She was by far the easiest character to write for, and any scene with her in it just felt…bigger. But oh my God, it drove me nuts the degree in which she would take on a life of her own and dominate the whole damn story. That kerfuffle with the robots was definitely the most egregious example, but there were others. I do feel I was able to get her character under control in the latter half of the Retaliation arc. Her breakdown after Marisa's death definitely helped. But even so, and even though I'm not yet done with her, this felt good.
I will admit to one bit of lazy writing though. According to my own rules, you can't send messages through magic when the Sirens are around. So…how did Rin control her duplicates? I did acknowledge this problem, but couldn't come up with a good reason and sort of brushed it off. Nobody really cared, but if I'm going to do a full look back, I might as well nitpick.
That gloriously pompous fly (I think I copied his speech patterns from the Helmacrons from Animorphs) though, that was another investment paying off. That whole thing with Wriggle's bug buddies came about because I had preplanned that tense scene with Elly trying to cut Wriggle's hair a way's back, didn't get a chance to use it, and wanted to stick it in before it was too late. The bugs crawling out her hair happened because I thought it was funny, then later, when Yuuka had captured them, I remembered them and figured I could do something with them. So, the bugs were out there, and I kept that (along with about a hundred other loose ends), and when the time came to spice up that garden battle, I remembered them and decided to pull the trigger. Downside? Dragons are fucking useless, okay!
After that was when I really cut loose with Yuuka lovecraftian roots. Like I mentioned in that chapter, I was playing a lot of the Dragonborn DLC for Skyrim around that time, and loved the eldritch scenes with Apocrypha, and decided to have Yuuka take some direct inspiration. So, slime, eyes, and tentacles. I swear to God, I don't know why eyes are such a recurring motif for me. I mean, I chose my avatar because I like Elfen Lied and it looks cool! I swear I'm not actually thinking about people's eyeballs day and night, they just keep popping up!
Illuminati confirm…
Righty then.
Anyhoo, Jun being a dog became unexpectedly handy. I got curious and looked up wolf behavior to see if they practice infanticide the same way lions do. Turns out, nope! Alphas protect the pack, the cubs, and the only infighting issues are usually with upstart young males! So, whenever Sakuya cracked a little more and wanted to get rid of the kids, it made sense for him to be uncharacteristically unselfish and step in. Having a big, hulking mass of angry muscle is useful for deterring murderous maids with slowly deteriorating mental states.
I…can't really remember if this was the point I had decided to have Sakuya threaten Rumia's life, if I had already decided that, or just have her take notice of Rumia as a way of making another investment, but regardless, that was where that scene started taking shape. I'm pretty sure it was something I had already committed to at that point thought, and was then planning on ways to relieve them of the kids and get rid of the rest of her team, allowing her to go completely rogue.
I did want the battle to end with Rin using Flandre's power to blow Yuuka to bits from the beginning though. So, what better way to pull that off than for Flandre to suggest it, thus planting it as a possibility, Rin to try and find it not working, only to bring it back when it was time? Because it's one thing to blow shit up. It's another to chuck bombs at shit, have them not go off, only to explode them later at a more suitably dramatic time.
For the four Yuuka scene though, I think the initial plan was actually for Rin to fight ten of them, grievously wound one for Elly to find later, and then just kyuu the rest to end the thing. It was cut down to four to simplify things a bit. Besides, it's been established that Yuuka gets weaker with each division, and Rin would probably have torn through ten with little difficulty. Besides, it lent itself to some symmetry, given that Rin was already using Four of a Kind, which I got a tremendous kick out of by having it time out like Touhou spellcards do. After all that distinctly non-Touhou-esque violence, it just tickled me to reintroduce the classic rules in the middle of a fight and have them be an inconvenience.
What? It made me laugh. Sue me.
Bringing back Kaguya and Mokou was a hoot as well. I really do miss those guys and all their bickering. And in my grand tradition in breaking up something horrifying with something silly, we have Rin's constant use of Phoenix Fire giving Mokou an itch. Though I think I brought them up here mainly because their later cameo in the next chapter was preplanned from way back and I didn't want their appearance then to be too out of left field.
And then I got to make up for my previous sacrilege by having all of those religious icons turn on Yuuka and burn her crispy. Like I've mentioned a few times before, my personal relationship with religion is a little complicated at this point. Regardless, I've never much cared for militant anti-religious attitudes, so this scene was sort of to make up for having those symbols perverted and destroyed earlier, as well as Yukari's previous trash talking of the Judeo-Christian faith in general. Having Remilia's spear (or Odin's. Whatever) be the first made for a nice bit of symbolism as well. Though it might have been stronger without Sariel directly commenting on it and offer an explanation as to why all those gods were suddenly taking notice just now. A little mystery goes a long way, after all.
Though I think at one point I was going to have Rin skewer the burnt Yuuka with Remilia's spear before dropping her into that hole. And maybe also sticking her into that broken crystal out of revenge. Can't remember why I didn't go through with it though. Hell, whatever happened to that spear anyway?

i forgot the password for this blog so i didn’t use it for months and now i have to catch up on everything AAAAA. i won’t post everything i drew since i last posted regularly here, so here’s just a quick overview of everything i did in 2020
january- i can’t remember if there was much good artwork, but this is a(n admittedly unfinished) photostudy! look at me drawing something that’s NOT an oc portrait.
february- clearly i learned nothing bc it’s straight back to oc art
march- started working on a picrew, never finished it, probably never will—but it was fun while it lasted
april- probably the peak of art here. a photostudy that i’m still v v proud of
may- finished my first-ever webcomic for my senior project! i’m too afraid of cringing to look back at it and read it again, but i remember being proud of it at the time, which is what matters
june- another comic! this was a short one-page character/story exploration that i never expanded on lmao
july- drew an oc’s bedroom. after taking a perspective class later in the year, i can look back and see all the flaws lmao...but it was good practice at the time. and not an oc portrait, thank god
august- another comic! this was Yet Another one page character exploration. rather than plan out the panels from the beginning, i started by drawing out specific imagery, then fit them together in ways that matched the vibe™. it was an interesting way of making a comic and i like the outcome even still, though i think that method of comic making works best for one shots like this. imagine trying to do that for a whole series...i’d die
september- back at it again with the oc art, but i used reference this time and drew a full body, so that’s a win!
october- more like OC-tober. i tried to draw an oc every day and only got like 5 days in </3
november- in the fall i took two online art classes, one of which was a perspective class. this was for an assignment; lots of work, but very rewarding! if i could redraw this again, i’d try to make the house look more crumbled, maybe have more fun; i was really hung up on getting the perspective right, but in the future i’d like to try and have more fun with line and shapes to really emphasize a certain look.
december- closing off the year with an oc portrait. around this time + for the next few months i got tired and burnt out on art, so i’d do oc paintings with the symmetry tool on, more to relax and practice painting/color than to focus on things like learning anatomy or interesting poses or composition. it’s what it is.
im posting this in june 2021, and since then i’ve honestly just been doing oc portraits mostly. L. maybe in the future i will have energy to work on art more?? i feel a little burnt out, trying to do my monotonous soul-crushing grocery store job + freelancing as a content writer which is also monotonous and soul-crushing in a way + trying to work on writing projects of my own with absolutely no success. aaaahhh. life is so much. maybe i’ll never be a Good artist, or a professional artist, or maybe i’ll never finish any creative project and maybe i’ll never make it as a creator. maybe i’ll just work retail or become a housewife or be a poorly-paid content marketing writer for big corporations forever, and creativity will be my little escape, my fun hobby. and that’s all it will be, and that’s ok. or maybe i’ll move on to other things, change careers, stop thinking so much about my ocs because they’re a stand-in for friends more than anything, and when i'm living a busy life and getting out in the world i’ll have no need to live vicariously through these ocs and maybe then i’ll stop writing and drawing. and that’ll be ok too, right? i like writing and drawing now. even if i’m not good, if my work doesn’t mean anything or say anything, it’s something i enjoy for me. if that’s all it ever is—frivolous, self-centered, something that one day i might lay down forever and never come back to—then i’ll be glad for the time i spent drawing and writing and thinking of stories and so on, but it won’t be my whole life. and that’s ok; i’ll be ok. sorry to end this art overview with an existential crisis. i’m gonna go eat lunch. i hate spelling ok like ok and not like okay, but im too lazy to type those two extra letters. ok lunch time fr bye. also who wants to talk about my hero acedmia?? can we PLEASE talk about my hero academia. ok bye fr.

Artist’s Commentary 6
For every 10 pages of RFO published, an artist's commentary will follow the next Tuesday. This one is brought to you a little late, because I did not realize 10 weeks had past already. RFO will return to its regular schedule next week.
RFO 51 Jude's bathroom windows have 2 major problems with the way they are built; one of which is simply a mistake on my part, while the other was a happy accident. The mistake, is the gap at the top above the panes. I only realized the problem after inking the first panel, so the error was brought over to the second panel so there wouldn't be differences drawing the eye to the mistake. The happy accident, is that the window is installed backwards, with the latch on the outside, trapping Jude. While I like the idea that the window was always that way and Jude just forgot, it makes more sense that the window was flipped by the same force that treats doors like portals; keeping him from actually escaping.
RFO 52 The transition from Jude being terrified to Jude returning downstairs doesn't quite work, it's too sudden. It is one of many things that will likely be changed after the draft of RFO is complete. Jude's journey from upstairs to kitchen showcases all the damage done to Jude's house. Crumbling drywall, burnt carpet, smashed and tossed furniture, and a hole in the floorboards filled with salt. Does that mean Jude's entire basement is filled with salt? The Angel is fiddling with a can opener, because they have never been to earth before, and so is curious about the tools humans use. The Devil, in contrast, does work in the mortal realm often enough to be familiar with everyday aspects of the physical world.
RFO 53 The Devil's has replaced his striped outer shirt with an apron, and so transforms from looking like a used car salesman, to embodying the stereotype of a suburban man at his grill. You may wonder why the Devil is baking a pie, since Jude already had a pie ready to eat at the very beginning. I personally see it as the Devil trying to endear himself to Jude. He disposed of the first pie so that the only pie available is the one he baked; in his mind that means all positive feedback will be his, and Jude will respond better to him for being 'nice'. The Angel's face in the bottom right panel really looks off. Drawing faces at angles is a skill I seriously need to practice.
RFO 54 Jude is beginning to organize his thoughts and build understanding of the situation. He is taking the situation seriously, and is not freaking out. Again, I feel that the switch on page 52 from Jude being terrified to facing the situation was a little fast. I would like to make it clearer in future versions of RFO that seeing angels and demons fighting outside his window force him to realize there would be no escape except for facing the men downstairs. You may notice that in some pages and panels the characters have thicker outlines. Sometimes I do this to add weight to something, at other times it is to make things stand out, or be clearly divided from the background and other nearby objects. I am still toying around with the style of the comic, so expect usage of this and other techniques to vary heavily during the draft
RFO 55 I'm really pleased with how this page turned out. The backgrounds here are an experiment in showing the emotions and nature of the characters through abstract shape. They are also an excuse to not actually render Jude's kitchen. The Devil invades Jude's personal space; being overly friendly and laying an arm around Jude's shoulder, just like the Angel did when he first showed up on Jude's doorstep. Speaking of that arm, it is the only thing I am not happy with on this page. It's just a little too long, bends at the shoulder in a way that looks broken, and worst of all, I forgot to shade in his sleeve! I really need to start checking my work before posting.
RFO 56 I don't have much to say for this page. Every movement the characters make such as walking away or sitting down are off-panel because I wasn’t sure how to convey the motion. I intend to change this in the future.
RFO 57 I really like the look of the 2-tone backgrounds. I wish the markers used were cheaper so I could do that all the time. I'm not totally sure how well Jude's reaction comes across. The intent was that the Angel's explanation was so blunt that Jude couldn't help being bewildered, but once again it feels a little like Jude changes mood too quickly. Publishing this draft lets us see the difference between what was written and intended, and how it comes across on page, and what needs to modified in future versions.
RFO 58 The heavy background fades alongside Jude's moment of levity, before the being brought back to neutral by the Devil's uncharacteristic seriousness. He pops in out of nowhere, once again offering a token of care for Jude so as to make himself seem more trustworthy. The devils right arm is a little too long for my liking. It seems like foreshortening and length consistency are real issues in my work that I need to address.
RFO 59 I like putting different characters into similar poses or layouts. Partially out of laziness I admit, but also because I like the symmetry of repeating situations and scenes. It creates a pattern that helps tie work together, I think.
RFO 60 This page is serviceable, if a little plain. I really just needed things to move along so that the next few pages can be laid out with more impact.
