there is something unique and deeply special about monkey d luffy as a protagonist. he’s overwhelmingly ADORED by the fandom. he’s consistently the most or at least top 3 most popular characters in the whole series. peoples takes about him are gushingly positive. and that’s… really uncommon.
a LOT of fandoms i’ve witnessed or been in have a tendency to favor characters other than the main character. especially in anime. the main characters are often written as a blank slate for readers/watchers to project onto, but that makes them not as interesting and so they don’t get the fan attention.
but luffy is so far from that. and he’s ALWAYS been this way. we love him so much. he’s the heart of the story and the heart of the fandom in every single way. and i think that speaks to how well-written he is as a character. he’s fun and charming and complex and interesting and he makes us laugh and cry and cheer and hope and love. he’s able to inspire so much joy in people, both in his world but also in this one. and i think that’s really special. i feel so grateful to have found this story that means so much to me, and i’m so grateful that luffy exists.

My friends collect funny tiktoks and memes for me over Shabbat and then send them to me after Shabbat so I can see what I missed. I don’t think this is a task anticipated when we came up with Shabbat goyim but by G-d, it’s one they’re doing well

Theory kind of? Or at least a possible explanation for why Mychael is hostile to his own species.
It's both instinctual and personal.
Mushrooms do three things well:
1. Stay in place.
2. Eat a lot.
3. Multiply.
We don't know a lot about #3 yet, but throughout the game #1 and #2 have been stressed to be something Mychael cares about deeply.
1. His cabin. A place he worked very hard to call him home after all these long years. His safe space. "Finally permanent, for once."
2. Him cooking. His cooking has always been something I loved about him, and he clearly takes pride in it as well (as he should,) and the game makes it a point to show how good at it he is. And of course, how much he enjoys eating.
When different mushroom species interact, sometimes it can lead to chemical warfare where one species releases toxins that are harmful to the other, so they could have as much nutrients and territory as possible without competition.
Mychael is a mushroom, somehow. So it wouldn't be too big of a stretch to say he's got the instincts of one.
So imagine your instincts telling you to stay rooted in one place, but you're forced to run, hide, and flee for your life. Imagine they tell you to eat, but due to all the running, you've got to get by just on what you can scavange up. How many years has he spent like that? Decades, maybe? More?
Then he finally had it. He had a place to call his own, a safe harbor he poured blood, sweat, and tears to. In this harbor, he's free to do what he wants, eat what he wants. He finally started to live rather than just survive.
But then there are the rival mushrooms, coming into HIS home, HIS part of the forest, threatening HIS livelihood (somehow? Maybe?) Which he's spent so long trying to achieve. I'd hate them, too.
For Mychael, it isn't just instinctual. It's personal. We've only seen him react to the mushroom ring, though. How bad would he react if it was another grown member of his species like him?
He calls them an "invasive species," but would that mean he is as well? They're clearly related somehow.
He has this "Will of the forest" attitude about him, but as a mushroom (or... plant or,,,, something) himself, wouldn't he be a part of that will? There's a clear distinction between himself and the forest, as the forest provides, and he consumes.

I bet that Dr. Ratio is always operating on this fear he never voices that one day he won't be enough for Aventurine to keep on living. In a way he probably chases after Aventurine in the same way he chases after Nous' gaze. However Aventurine IS in reach, IS looking at him, and maybe if Ratio holds on just tight enough he won't slip away. In between times when they're together, does he quietly offer a prayer to the Amber Lord that Aventurine will come back to him safe and alive? Does he press his lips to Aventurine's forehead when he's asleep in his arms, wondering if it'll be the last time? Amongst all of his thoughts of a possible end to the man he adores, is there hope for the future, or is he forever trapped in the present, hoping his efforts are enough?

currently thinking about Satan in nightbringer vs in the original
thinking about how in nightbringer he's always outside HoL when he wants to be alone since the others are always in the library + they keep chaining him to his bed, so he most likely doesn't feel safe in his own room to begin with
how Asmo keeps trying to invade his personal space (asking to do his hair, nails etc.) and doesn't take the hint, and how Lucifer casted a spell on Satan so he physically could not leave his side for a while, and how he's never really allowed the time to properly work through his emotions
that dinner party where the others all started talking about the Celestial Realm until Satan eventually stormed off
the way he describes being in their presence as torture and refuses to see them as his brothers, yet he's instantly calm around MC because they treat him decently
how the others kept complaining over how the demons of the Devildom were treating them-how they were discriminated against because they're fallen angels-yet they keep on treating Satan, the only full-fledged demon of HoL, like some feral animal that has to be put down in two days
currently thinking about how the very first thing we learn about Satan in the original is that he masks his emotions
him saying that he loves to go on walks alone and how he gets to meet all kinds of different people that way
thinking about how he's usually in the library instead of his room
when they were all up in the human world and the other brothers were outside stargazing, meanwhile Satan stayed inside. And when asked about it by Lucifer, he claimed it was because he wanted to read before offhandedly mentioning that they're reminiscing about the Celestial Realm and he won't understand any of it anyway
he now gets along better with all of his brothers and yet, when the two of them got lost once, he told MC that there's no need to worry, because his brothers would come looking for them, making it a point to add that they wouldn't search for him
that time Satan ran away to the human world and Levi, Asmo (arguably the two brothers closest to him) and MC came to bring him back. How he started getting angry at one of their questions, so they opted for running away instead of even attempting to comfort him in any way
how his first response after Lucifer told him to leave HoL was to actually pack his things; how he was fully intent on leaving, and how when MC comes to check on him, he instantly tells them that his brothers would never stop him from leaving, that they think it's funny
the way he seemed genuienly surprised when MC accepted after he asked them out to the dance, and then admitting he actually thought that they wouldn't want to go with him
MC being his main source for comfort, and Satan even calling them his sanctuary. How before MC it was books and cats; his room being filled to the brim with books, to the point it's become a safety hazard, and him always carrying cat treats with him
currently thinking about how Satan's first instict whenever he gets angry is to isolate himself, if possible even lock himself up in his room for days on end and how his brothers don't seem to pay it much attention (Levi once said that they already had a shut-in, they don't need another one). And how he doesn't even necessarily need to give into his wrath, how simply getting worked up over something someone else said is enough for him to isolate himself
also thinking about the whole idea of 'you become the person that would have saved you when you were younger' and how Satan in the og game is literally so full of love and very kind, patient and compassionate when given the chance to fully be himself

some more little details i enjoy: we know lines change for certain stranger missions based on whether you started them with john and finished them with jack, or even if you started them w jack first when the dialogue was specifically tailored for john (see: jenny’s faith, “have i seen you before?” where jenny would usually point out that she and john were both on the train to blackwater, but to jack she says “no, i don’t think so”), but there’s some smaller lines that change for jack too, completely unrelated to john.
the best example i can remember is in “let no man put asunder,” aka the mission with alma horlick; her fiancé died about 20 years prior and she asks the pc to go looking for him so they can have their wedding. john and jack share a lot of the same animations, so both pull away from her when she tries to grab their arm— and i feel like that’s in character for both, since we see signs of jack not being very fond of physical affection in the rdr2 epilogue— but the line where they agree to help is different.
john is very much not interested in helping her, and will only begrudgingly accept the quest. jack will sound a bit more sympathetic and say he’ll see what he can do. i believe this applies to a few other stranger missions too, since john is understandably wanting to get back to his family, so he usually does not care about anything that distracts from that and repeatedly expresses disdain with getting dragged into everyone else’s problems. jack, however, has nothing left to live for (ow), and is much more inclined to run around assisting strangers. his line deliveries, while the lines are usually the same ones john has, are a bit more empathetic because he’s willing to help them out.
i leave most, if not all of the stranger missions for jack for this reason. i feel it gives him more character development, and also gives him some kind of purpose after having lost every reason he had to live.

I still find it funny that people call eleven a "deadbeat husband" and their marriage "toxic" but twelve is the "perfect husband" and their marriage "wedded bliss" all because of the few moments we'd seen between 11 and River were them being "toxic". yes of course! let's ignore how the minisodes show how that description isn't true and even how little moments in the episodes themselves – "what? that's it?" (why haven't you kissed me goodbye? are you being sly on purpose so I'd kiss you first?) and "they wouldn't bury my wife out here" and the music room is the heart of the home and it's not a ghost story, it's a love story – show 11 cared and put in the work and yes, they're going to have disagreements like the ones in TATM because duh who doesn't but it does not mean it is the entirety of their relationship but people have taken it and made it the entirety of their relationship.

Moros Hadesgame II has very strong "I spend all my time gaming in my mom's basement watching people meet their dooms and don't go out at all" energy and I think that's why the Fates had that minor prophecy to summon him. They're kicking him out of the metaphorical basement so he can socialize more.

I have been Thinking recently about the dedicated following of febuwhump and I think it has nothing to do with the whump and prompt event and actually it is down to the community feeling of knowing that there is a single admin behind this blog so you always knkw who you are talking to, and they are down and willing to talk shit at a moments notice and that they (me, I'm talking about me) are willing to engage in the most ridiculous community voter fraud and shenanigans that frankly are not present in other similar events, and perhaps that is why it always feels so fun on the tumblr when things are happening before the event - it is community run and crowdsourced and if everyone had actually responded negatively about the skulls the blog would've rebranded but actually everyone loved the skulls and the switch up and only one person was mad about the colour red. just thinking ya know
