Imo it'd be cool if their existence was kind of tied to the life candles, so the flames of several life candles creating an inferno only to give form to a reaper, or they're molded out of the wax of melted life candles. Something along the lines of that

Since we're not getting the reaper lore:

I do wonder If Thirteen - Candy fall off Is caused because Candy was assigned as Thirteen's caretaker against her will (Similar in how the Celestial Realm every Seraphim has Angels under their wings. This would mean that reapers aren't related by blood like the angels) they never had a real attachement for each other. The only instance were Thirteen talks about Candy in a neutral Light Is when she describes meeting Solomon when she was with Candy as an apprentice reaper. Did Candy bring Thirteen because she appreciates her sister's company? Or did she bring her because she 'had too'?

The resting Queen and the wistful Son

Hidden deep in the enchanted forest, ever-changing and impossible to navigate, lies a clearing. In its mids stands the statue of a woman, eternalized in the purest of white marbel and bathed in a soft, golden glow. Nature is slowly claiming her as its own, yet the moss never reaches her face. The flower crown resting atop her head must have withered away centuries ago.

If he wouldn't have known better he would have said she looked like an angel. Or perhaphs she actually was one? His father never told him anything about her, after all. All he knows about her are from books and history records that his butler was kind enough to gather for him. They all have spoken of her with such reverence, emphasizing what a magnificent ruler she was. Kind, understanding. Wise and benevolent towards the denizens of the land.

A gracious queen. An adored wife.

Would the same have held true with him? Would she have been a loving mother to him...?

The statue obviously has no life in it. There's not a single drop of blood to spill, yet he is careful when removing the withered flowers from her head. He doesn't want to somehow hurt someone so dearly loved by everyone around him, after all.

With his eyes closed, his fingers follow her features as if it were second nature to him and he begins to wonder—would her voice have carried some calming gentleness whenever she scolded him? Would she have comforted him after a nightmare, keeping him safe in her arms from all the monsters that were tormenting him, until he was fast asleep again?

Perhaps she would have been cold toward him. Somewhat distant, like his father. Rather than seeing him as her son, would she have only seen him as the future king? Someone who still needs to be molded into the perfect ruler and who has no right to be his own person?

Is she proud of the demon standing before her? Of all he has achieved? And the future he is currently shaping?

Is he fulfilling this role of ruler he has been burdened with?

Is it enough? Would she be disappointed? She would, wouldn't she?

......would she even care about him in the first place?

She probably would have resented him. What for, he isn't too sure, but the whispers and murmurs of the nobles keep echoing in the back of his mind.

"Pathetic."

"A traitor to demonkind."

"Delusional."

"A disgrace to the royal bloodline."

"The kingdom will crumble under his rule."

"No wonder the king is ashamed."

Deep breath.

Smile through it.

None of it's...

......a fool of a prince such as himself is almost guranteed to be seen as nothing but a failure.

His eyes fall on the stranger's statue again.

His mother's statue, he tells himself. She is his mother. Why does calling her such feel so wrong? Why does it feel so wrong?

The prince's gaze shifting toward the ground. There, just before his feet, lays a small stone plate. A name has been carefully engraved in its middle.

Before he first stumbled upon her grave just a few milennia ago he didn't even know her name. Years have gone by since then, and he still sometimes catches himself mumbling her name under his breath. It still sounds just as foreign as it did back then.

Leaning forward, he presses a single kiss to her forehead as has become tradition between them. A parting gift, of sorts. His thumb brushes against her cheek one last time, wiping away the single tear in the process. He carefully places the wreath of freshly picked abyss flowers on her hair. They are his favorites.

Barbatos once told him they were her favorites, too.

By the time Diavolo will find his way back to the queen's grave centuries from now, the flower crown will have withered once more.
