Showing up isn’t easy. Whether it’s for work or a party, being present isn’t easy when you don’t feel confident. I will tell you that I still battle that inner mean girl in my head, the one who says there are more patient moms, more experienced instructors, more stylish women, who am I to show up here & share my story? One thing I’ve learned, don’t wait for confidence to show up. It won’t just be there one day. You need to show up to be confident. If you’ve held yourself back from talking to that mom at practice, going after that job, or walking into that studio because you didn’t feel confident, then I have some mindset tips to help you push past the self-doubt: ♥️ Act & speak as the best, most confident version of yourself would. It will start to feel more natural the more you do it. ♥️ There is no one like you. No one with your unique experience & truth. The world needs your light, who are you NOT to share that with others??! ♥️ Show up consistently. Whatever your goals (to lose weight, to make new friends, to be more involved at your kids’ school), showing up once isn’t going to cut it. Stick with it, & the confidence to do so will come. ♥️ I love the “5 second rule” from @melrobbins which at a high level says to acknowledge the fear holding you back, count backwards 5 to 1, and then take action. It is during rest & recovery where the growth & rebuilding occurs. If you’re constantly stressing the body and not giving it a chance to rest and recover, you’re hindering progress. More stress. You know how some people think they’re the only ones who can do things “the right way” (aka their way), and never ask for help, even when they really need it? It’s me🙋🏻♀️ I’m some people. Hi, I’m Becky, & I’m a recovering perfectionist. It’s exhausting to be in my head some days. That inner mean girl whispering lies, worrying about things out of our control, preparing, planning, & controlling... I feel most comfortable when I’m in control. But when I come here, on this bike, I feel like I can loosen my grip, let myself lose control in the best way. I’m uncomfortable, it’s frustrating, I’m challenged, I’m competitive, and I crave that feeling of letting go of all that bullshit that weighs me down. Like unrealistic expectations. And doubts that I’m good enough or doing enough. Or anxiety over getting it all done perfectly. Because life is messy & imperfect, and those are some of the most beautiful parts of it. Today, I felt out of control, I couldn’t be everywhere or do everything. I had to ask for help. And I felt guilty for asking, angry that I had to, frustrated that I couldn’t manage it all, anxious about letting people down. But a new friend @what.the.elle stepped up & said “You owe me nothing. Take care of you.” And I exhaled, like it wasn’t all on me. Like someone had my back. That I can have an imperfect day, but it’ll still work out in the end. And all I had to do was ask for help. It’s not easy for me, as it might not be for you. If you don’t have someone in your corner, know that I am. We might be new friends, but I believe in paying a kindness forward. I’m learning to celebrate all of our imperfections, and I believe this @psycle community was created for this purpose—so you never have to go at it alone. 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗮𝘆: 💧Drink 17-20 ounces of water as soon as you wake up to flush your system & re-hydrate your body after the night. 💧Drink 20 ounces of water no more than 2 hours before your planned workout to prepare your body for work. 💧 Drink 8-10 ounces of water for every 10-20 minutes of exercise depending on the intensity. For athletes and high-intensity workouts, try incorporating a hydration supplement to replenish beneficial minerals & vitamins lost in sweat. 💧Following your workout, drink 16-24 ounces of water for every pound of liquid lost during exercise. Let’s be real honest about what we want & how to get it. I believe anything can be done (with time & money😆). Many people give up on their dreams because it feels unattainable when it doesn’t happen overnight. I get it. We’re busy. We live in a world that is all about instant gratification. Being a mom is the hardest job there is. You literally give up your body to grow another one. Your life, your heart, your stuff, your privacy, your choices are no longer just yours. I remember feeling like I had lost something, a part of me, but also that I had gained so much too. A true & complete transformation story. There is so much that goes unseen when you’re a mom. It is a thankless job. The mental load, the juggling schedules and appointments, the worry, the joy, the pride, and the hope that they’ll grow wings but also never leave. 𝗜 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻. I find myself apologizing to my mom these days for what my kids do to me now. Now I understand her mood, her concern, her sleepless nights. Some days are cupcakes & rainbows, and other days are just shitty, plain & simple. It’s all part of a beautiful dance between holding on & letting go. It’s life. It’s true—it takes a village, not just to raise kids but to make life worth living. I’m thankful for the momma warriors in my life, too many to thank them all here, but I SEE you and I’ve got your back too;) Mommas, if you’re struggling to find your way, your tribe, your groove, your mind, know you don’t have to go it alone. Some kind words from across the internet helped me on dark, lonely nights when I was a new mom, so don’t ever feel like you can’t reach out, or feel silly for doing so. Here are 3 tips to building confidence: 1) Don’t just “fake it til you make it” but practice it until you learn it.
