I hc that Tim's parents had him take lessons for at least one classical instrument, so did the LoA Damian.

So what if after getting used to living in Gotham, Damian continues his violin lessons and the school encourages him to play at their annual competition. He's apprehensive at first, thus far his music had only been for his, his family's and his teacher's ears, but Dick had immediately been excited about it and Bruce said he'd like to see him play on stage so Damian agrees.

The school assigned him a pianist to accompany his piece and they've practised rigorously, but mere weeks before the competition his accompanist gets into an accident that will leave him unable to play for months. Damian doesn't accept any of the schools replacements, they wouldn't have enough time to get used to each other and excel before the competition and Damian would rather continue playing well on his own than perform a mediocre piece for the audience and more importantly his family to hear.

The school tells him to think it over before making the decision but Damian knows he won't settle, he's already made his choice. However, when he gets home and explains to Dick that he won't be participating in the competition due to his lack of accompanist, Tim overhears.

"A pianist? What piece?"

Damian answers and Tim exits the conversation as fast as he'd entered it. Damian is irritated but looking at Dick, who has a knowing look in his eyes, irritation turns to confusion.

Hours later as Damian approaches the music room he hears a familiar melody. He finds Tim sitting at the grand piano in the center of the room, swaying as he presses the keys and listens to the result. When the last note subsides, Tim turns to look at Damian as if waiting for judgement.

"You play the piano?"

"Not that often nowadays but my parents had me practice several times a week when I was younger. So, what do you think?"

"You... want to be my accompanist? Why?"

"You were disappointed that you wouldn't be able to join the competition. It's pretty soon but we've solved greater problems with less time."

It turns out that the adjustment period for a new musical partner is greatly reduced when you're intimately familiar with working together in other areas. Damian drags Tim to practice every day between work/school and patrol, they ask to be assigned the calmer routes to minimise risk of repeating the injury issue and on the day they play the arrangement like they've been playing together their whole lives.

The public adores the brothers playing together and all Wayne galas from that day on are opened by the two youngest son's music.

hi! ~a belated studyblr intro~

just realized i never did a proper intro for this blog!

so, hello, i've been flip flopping between taking lessons and self-studying piano for several years and this blog was (and still is) intended to be a studyblr to track my progress.

i'm currently self-studying as my time is split between this and STEM studies (more on that on my side blog @studentbyday) but i really really hope to finally establish a consistent practice (after struggling to do so for many years 😅) so i know i will be able to handle weekly lessons again 😤

🎓 goals for piano/music studies:

enjoy playing music (including without headphones)

establish sustainable routines so i can practice piano every day or at least every week

get over stage fright and paralyzing perfectionism

improve my sight reading

motivate myself to learn more music theory and use it to analyze my favorite songs

find fellow music enthusiasts on tumblr!

ultimately play piano at an LRCM level 🙈 (as of 2024, i am currently L6-7 in baroque/classical, L8-9 for romantic...yeah, kind of all over the place since I've been treating this very informally over the years and keep taking hiatuses lol)

classical music (my favorite composer is chopin but beethoven is a close second)

jazz (especially the cozy and vintage kinds)

Of all the things to see today, this was not what I expected at all- but I'm very excited (I've seen clips it's very impressive guys, I swear)

But: This is the 5th Japanese stage play/musical to be performed outside of Japan this past year

(Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Your Lie in April, Death Note being the other 4)

(*Note: Death Note is a technicality, The Musical was originally translated into English back in 2011, but never had anything more than a small amount of off broadway performances and a concept album, this was it's proper English debut, and the other 3 are all still performed in Japanese, to my knowledge)

But all I'm saying is that there is hope that the rights could become available to these for community theaters down the line, and I for one, am very very excited about that possibility
