was thinking about it this morning as i was making tea and i think there's a fundamental gap in the advice we give to writers/creators to "first and foremost create for ourselves", bc yes. in the beginning, i am almost always writing for myself. i write all the time, and im sure that artists doodle and paint all the time too. there are things i've written that will never see the light of day and are truly just for me.

and then there are things that i choose to share, because i want to share them. because i'm proud of a story, and want to put it into the world. the act of sharing it is, above all, an invitation.

its me inviting you into a corner of my mind/heart/soul, opening the window and throwing open the curtains and waving, holding up a sign that says "hi! do you like this too? let's talk about it!"

what im asking for is a connection, a conversation. a shared space. digital or otherwise. and the so-called "harm" of "ghost consumption" is not that artists will stop creating art or that writers will stop writing -- no, that's not quite how creativity works (thankfully, and sometimes unfortunately). we will always create.

we just might not be inspired to share it anymore.

since i am in a CARTOON SHARING MOOD, here is the opening to Porky & Daffy for those who have never seen it because i have no idea when else i would post the entire opening. it's so endearing!!! look at the shaky camera truck-in and dissolve to the house... back when they were still struggling with how to do diagonal camera pans and double exposure effects.. :'))) i miss reviewing this era of cartoons profusely

i have a deep fondness for stuff like the shot of Porky grabbing the paper, Clampett seemed to have a similar fondness of starting shorts out of this era with close shots like that (Porky's Party opens on a very synonymous shot of Porky lighting the candles on the cake). Bobe Cannon's animation of Porky is adorable. some really smooth and hypnotic Chuck Jones animation of Daffy boxing with the pillows (in Chuck's last short working for Clampett!). this entire exchange is adorable. i am so excited for anything that even entertains the idea of modeling itself after this. i'm so excited.

People...Stop telling me to ship wade/logan, so it fits the narrative you want me to draw.

You don't like nathan/wade? Well, too bad because I do. And I ship logan with scott, so picturing logan and wade romantically together feels terrible off to me haha!

I love my ships dearly and I hate when people force me to love new ships so they can hope to see my fanarts of them.

Shipping is personnal, it is something that need to come naturally to me and not all popular ships are a hit for me. I don't want anyone to force me enjoying something. That is not how I enjoy my fandom time. Forcing online strangers to like the same things as you is so childish.

And many many AMAZING artists draw wade/logan fanarts. Go cheer on them. Let them know how much you enjoy what they create and leave me alone!! I don't owe you anything. I just happen to enjoy drawing Scott Summers with a lot of lovers. That's it.

while on the topic of iron posting. a very small very insignificant thing that i really enjoy is that nobody really harasses it for not speaking. and like. we don't know precisely why it doesn't speak. it could be because it's mute, it could be due to an unseen injury, it could just be a selective choice, it could be that it never bothered to learn human language to begin with, etc etc. but there's never been a scene (at least as far as i can recall) where mr iron is specifically called out or pressured or anything of the sort. not even by its own haters 4 haters coworkers. and yeah this is realistically probably because its an ESPECIALLY deadly space bat that could kill you six ways from sunday if you pissed it off, but also, y'know, sometimes it's really nice just having a mute character that's treated Normally for once
