If you're reading this, you're probably wondering where this random Joel Miller blog came from- and I don't blame you.

My name is Rae, I'm 26, and I consume a lot of media. Over the past 9 months, I have been lurking in the shadows (on AO3), kindle in hand, reading and adoring the series' that many of you have created.

Over the past month or so, I have found myself dipping into Tumblr more and more and what I've found is some of the most intricate, thought-out, warm, and passionate pieces I've ever read. As someone who consumes a lot of words for a living, I have been truly astounded.

It's through you guys that I have read not only about my one true love, Joel Miller (in all incarnations), but also branched out to other characters in the P.P. fandom.

Notable mentions go to: Mando, Javier Peña, Agent Whiskey, General Acacius (jfc), Frankie bby, Dieter Bravo to name but a few...

Anyway, the point of this post is to say, thank you for the amazing work that the creators in this sphere are doing. I was in a reading slump for a good couple of years you have helped me find my love of reading again. <3

The sole purpose of my blog is to keep a record of what I'm reading (y'all I've been trying to keep tabs just by liking masterlists and it's getting outta hand lmao) and, if you're interested, give some recommendations of fics that I've been reading and loving.

I also wanted to give a quick shoutout to some of the accounts of the fics that I have been pining after for the past while. I do not claim to be the first one to come across these series'. I am well aware that it's not just me jumping on the bandwagon, but truly jumping on the Boeing 747 with the thousands of others that love your work.

There are many, many more recommendations I could give and I am working my way through my over-saturated 'likes' so I can create a well organised 'recommendations' post.

I could honestly spend hours, picking your brains and gushing over the work that you guys have created but for now, I am going to reel myself in, say hi and thank you.

The reason those C3 fans shit the bricks over the Charity stream was because they viewed the charity stream as a win for them and bells hells. Not like you know, an actual good thing to help people in need. Because when it was announced they were in the qrts and on twt yelling that the cast closing to play as Bells Hells was cause they loved them above all. That BH were "winning" because MN didn't get one shots while airing. No1 expected anyone BUT BH to be played so they were fighting air tbh.

[Cont. So when Laudna got yeeted and Beau joined it, it's like they suddenly hit with the fact that the cast like all the times. All character sheets were available and BH was being played by default of the one shot happening during c3. But they hung their entire world view on BH being extra special that they broke. Saw them also being PISSED at Ashley and Liam for getting MN members to the top before everyone else and especially the gate was "showing up BH".]

Here is what gets me, as a person who does not follow sports in any form: The Mighty Nein are a juggernaut of popularity within the fandom. I think this is for the most part deserved and I also think a lot of fans of C1 who never vibed with any later campaigns are simply not active in fandom any more since it's been 7 years, and Critical Role had more recognition with Campaign 2, so like, numbers within active social media fandom are not a perfect indicator of quality, itself a subjective measure.

HOWEVER. If you want your team to win, the most efficient way to do that is to start rooting for the winning team. I get that this is considered treasonous to genuine fans of sports. But like, if your biggest priority is Number Is Bigger then there is an obvious solution and it's called jumping on the bandwagon. Otherwise, perhaps you should consider a different metric, such as "did I have fun at this game? Were the snacks good? Were there some cool plays?" (from this you can see my priorities re: live sports namely are my friends here and did I get some nachos and a beer but you get my point). Honestly, this is how I and a lot of other people have been approaching Bells Hells week to week for some time now: were there some cool scenes? Did the character they liked most at the time say something funny? Did NPCs do anything? Were the fight mechanics interesting?

I have a post that I am saving for next week about specific elements of C3 that goes into more depth but I feel like Campaign 3's fandom in particular fell to a certain attitude that feels very specific to a younger (to me, an ancient crone, so like, mid-20s) crowd, of obsessing over numbers: how many fics. how many notes. how much screentime. can you believe that Episode 100 didn't even have Bells Hells in it????? And it's like. who the fuck cares. Is it good? Is it satisfying? Because right now we're watching you guys all admit it hasn't been and 120 episodes in you were waiting for the campaign to REALLY begin.

I don't think the cast dislikes Bells Hells! I think they all like all of their characters, and frankly when the cast gets asked directly a lot of them go with a "you never forget your first" and give their VM character anyway so like, the vitriol at the Mighty Nein really is a petty popularity contest in the end. But Bells Hells are the party that the cast happened to be playing during the Moon Plot Campaign and the party that the cast happened to be playing at the time of the livestream. None of the three main parties are uniquely special. They are special to their individual fans.

I made the Elon Musk comparison for C3 fans earlier this week and I don't want to go too hard since like, he is truly horrible, and I do think that a lot of C3 fans, while currently shitty self-absorbed people, are also quite young and it is my hope that a sharp but ultimately harmless disappointment like this campaign might shock them into fixing their hearts, but the final lines of this post came to mind while writing up a lot of my responses: "And in fact I would argue that seeking to put yourself above other people is inherently going to leave you empty, because egotistical as you may be, you've adopted a values system where your sense of self worth intrinsically depends on other people. Congratulations, you played yourself."

If your day can be ruined because your blorbo wasn't present for 100% of a live stream for charity and the cast likes all of their characters? You should work on that! I'm not saying it's easy or fun but it really is a thing you should work on because right now, the worst thing that's going to happen to you is people laughing at your misfortune on social media. But if you keep up this behavior, you're going to be bitter and miserable forever, and it will be your own fault because you're getting mad that something that was never about you continues to not be about you. Learn to accept that you had a good time (if you had a good time, anyway) and it's over and that's okay.

I think it's cause it's like Buck is bi largely in part because of buddies supporters loudly advocating for it for years because it made sense for him individually as a character AND because of the ship and people have shipped buddie for over 5 years at this point and some guy comes in and people ship them which is cool and all but then start acting nuts that the people who have been campaigning for a specific ship for years aren't immediately jumping ship because of a different relationship like both of them haven't been in plenty of other ones before this like if people didn't jump ship with Ana or Marisol or BT1.0 or Natalia before we knew that lasted for 3 seconds wtf do they think makes Tommy so special that he has a penis?

For real!!

(I think, partly it has to do with the fact some people in the fandom have never been normal about women ever and continue to villainize them mostly for butting into the ship).

What kills me is the fact Tommy exhibits behaviors of so many other LIs!!

Ana continuously called Eddie Edmundo -> Tommy exclusively refers to Buck as Evan

The main aspect of Abby and Buck's relationship was sex -> Buck and Tommy's entire relationship is about sex

Taylor kissed Buck at a time he was emotionally vulnerable -> Tommy kissed Buck at a time he was emotionally vulnerable

Taylor shut down Buck's concerns about the team (his family) -> Tommy shut down Buck's concerns about Bobby

Natalia put him on a pedestal when they first met -> Tommy put him on a pedestal when they first met (albeit very different ones. Being fascinated by a man who survived a lightning strike and being jealous a man has a found family are completely different matters)

It just goes on and on. But because Tommy is a man, he somehow gets a pass?? Do you think if Taylor said "your father's alive" she'd be treated as nicely as they treat Tommy? Nah.

Maybe it's misplaced happiness at the reality of bi Buck. It's incredible that we have that and got to experience it. I'm so incredibly grateful to the show for giving us that and to Oliver for treating it with such care.

But while we have bi Buck, I think we deserve better representation. Yeah, okay, it's a canon ship, that's great, but is that good enough for you? Why must we settle for good enough when great is available and has been building for 6 years? Representation matters, but good representation matters more. We deserve better than unending, flat sex jokes that are always inappropriate and a man who treats the person he's supposed to care about like he's a nuisance.

15 years is a long time...

I've been lucky enough to be here for about 13 of those years and while I didn't get myself too involved in the phandom until 2019, outside of religiously watching phan proof when i was 16, Dan and Phil have been there on my screens since i was a teenager. Their videos quite literally raised me. I would sit and listen to the radio show every week and my friends and I would post about it on facebook, those post still haunt me to this day and make me feel incredibly old every time memories tell me how long ago it was.

I think today is really fitting for me to write a little personal essay on my journey and my feelings here, so i guess if you're interested then you can click the read more <3

I don't know if i fully have the words to describe properly what Dan and Phil and the Phandom mean to me, but i'll try. (I'm gonna do this in context of the last 5 years because that's when i've been most active and when I think they've impacted my life more than they ever did before.)

In 2019, I'd previously been in the Shadowhunters fandom, but as that show finished in May of that year I'd basically lost any form of fandom I had and I felt lost because fandoms are always a big part of my life and to suddenly feel like I didn't have one was hard so in June 2019 when Dan posted his coming out video everything suddenly clicked into place.

This was a community i'd loved from afar for many years and there was an opening for me to jump in. So I did. That was the best thing to ever happen to me. I'm not exaggerating, finding a place in this fandom changed my life for the better.

For the first time in my life I felt like I had friends online, from the first discord server i joined (TY LY Trashcans/ the phannie pack you'll always be famous) to Kris and Leo and to all the amazing mutuals I made, 2019 was really a cool time for me. Unfortunately a lot of these people have come and gone from my life but I often think back to what an impact they all had on me.

And then to my group now, the Rat Relaxation Chat (RRC!!!) without the hiatus ending I wouldn't be friends with any of you guys. See thats the thing, Dan and Phil didn't just bring themselves back into my life. They did something even better, brought the community back. The hiatus was hard, i've seen many of my mutuals just stop posting one day and never come back, it felt like every week we'd get smaller and smaller but then DAPG came back and so did a bunch of people and we even got some new faces and the community picked itself back up again.

As a result of that the RRC was born. For the first time in my life I was meeting my friends outside of discord, from WAD to TIT, Im literally gone end up having met all my best friends <3 (as well as so many mutuals)

I've loved so much over the last 5 years making gifs and memes and video edits and heartbreaking text posts. I'm so grateful for all the people who have ever follewed me, interacted with me, sent me hate messages, All the people who helped me make it possible for so many people to watch the WAD premiere, The people who help me with DGPdaily and the TIT blog.,The other amazing artists and gif makers and writers and archivists and anyone who has ever called themselves a phannie.

The Phandom is special, it's a community like no other. We really are a family, Dan and Phil really are our dads.

It's funny I stared this with full intentions of saying what Dan and Phil meant to me, but in the end it became all about the community they let us build. This is why I can't come up with enough words to tell them what they mean, because they mean the entire world to me because they created that world.

Dan and Phil are my friends, my best friends. They're my heros, the people I look up to most in the world because they make me feel safe and loved and I feel that love now more than I ever have before. Watching them grow older and gayer, watching the confidence grow over the years, watching them find themselves. Its a feeling like no other.

They deserve everything good in the world and i'm so glad to see them so happy and honest and open.

I don't know what the future holds for us but I know whatever it is is gonna be amazing and I hope I get to do this with you all for many more years to come.

One final strum of a guitar marked the end of your “final” song. The crowd cheered, jumping up and down enthusiastically.

You smiled at the sight, grateful to have such adoring fans. Thanking the crowd, you caught sight of the man hiding backstage. You smirked, and nodded to him, signaling your next action.

“Hang on, guys!” You addressed the crowd. “No need to be sad just yet! I have a little surprise for all of you!” The crowd murmured excitedly.

You took a few steps back on the stage. After waiting a few moments for the people to cheer impatiently, you finally motioned for somebody to come on stage. The crowd went silent in anticipation. A familiar green haired man walked on stage, and everyone went wild.

When he finally was by your side, you put a finger to your lips to shush the crowd. Once they obeyed, you made your announcement.

“This is Veneer, my boyfriend.” Once again, your fans went wild. This time, though, much louder. The two of you each plugged an ear, smiling to each other. You and Veneer had been seen together on many occasions. Sensing something was between the two of you, both of your fans began shipping you. They thought that your intimidating looks, yet kind personality went perfectly with Veneer. While they were correct, you had kept silent about your relationship for a while now, waiting for a good moment to announce it. And much to your fans’ delight, tonight was the night.

After letting the crowd let their excitement out, you silenced them once again. “We’re gonna sing one more song for you guys.” You said. After confirming with Veneer, you signaled for the band to begin playing.

The crowd quieted down as the song started. The guitarist and drummer led most of the beginning. When it was finally time, you began to sing.

You looked at Veneer, silently telling him that it was his turn. He nodded, and sang as well.

Your eyes met once again. And the two of you joined your voices together.

The crowd was highly enjoying this romantic collaboration. Their hands waved in the hair, and many bobbed their heads along to the beat. No one dared to sing along, though. They knew this moment was special to you. It was special to them as well, as they’ve been waiting for this for a long time.

You and Veneer continued the song. Most of the time, your eyes stayed glued to one another’s. This has been a dream for you; singing with your boyfriend in front of a large crowd. Now that you were finally experiencing it, you knew that this would be your new favorite memory.

How about a little love letter to both JJK & BNHA? Now that both series have ended, what are your top 5 (or top 3) favorite moments from each series? Who are your top 5 (or top 3) favorite characters each from both series? What made you love BNHA & JJK, and made them special to you?

Also, thank you so much to both Horikoshi and Gege for your hard works! BNHA & JJK have inspired a lot of people (especially to fanfics writers and fanarts artists)....

Spoilers ahead for anyone who haven't read MHA and JJK all the way!

Funny story, both JJK & BNHA have renewed my love for Yu-Gi-Oh somehow. Definitely both kept me entertained over the years and I now have other favorite characters I absolutely adore on my list.

Said characters are ever changing since both series have quite a bit I like, but definitely for the top number 1 spots are Midoriya, Miruko and Itadori.

From BNHA, other characters I like Burnin (she has the agency now, I said so), Rock Lock (thank you for surviving, now he can be best husband and dad) and I have to say Mama Inko. Without her, there wouldn't be Midoriya.

For JJK, Takako Uro quickly jumped up there. Choso, forever best big brother. Ryomen Sukuna came out with nails slayed and tattoos out and I was like "yeah, you're a favorite now". And oooh... I don't care I also saying Fushiguro, Miwa and Inumaki. All three of them do things because they have people they care about and I admire that.

Favorite scenes... I have so many!!

Okay, off rip, any of the Midoriya, Miruko and Itadori fight scenes are some of my favorites. Actually, just any scenes they have in general.

I want to know who made the decision to have Miruko's episode and the scene Midoriya uses Float for the first time have the same badass song play because I am forever grateful for that.

Got to say that that one of my favorite BNHA episodes is the dorm room episode. I loved seeing the kids just bonding like that and being silly.

Have to thank Betten Court and the team for Vigilantes because another one of my favorite moments is in there (manga is worth the read). Miruko (at the time Tiger Bunny, she was a teen) had to team up with Rappa (yes, that Rappa) and O'Clock to take down some bad guys and their back and forth was so funny to me. There's even a scene when All Might finally arrives and Miruko didn't even bat a lash. She was just like "you're late".

Another moment for me has to be the flashbacks for All For One and Yoichi that we get during the Final War Arc. Gave me more insight to where the characters came from and how they came to be.

For JJK...

I just rewatched this scene (with a family member) and I couldn't help but smile at the scene between Fushiguro, Kugisaki and Itadori when they're eating pizza in Fushiguro's room. That scene is just so wholesome and honestly? That trio has a lot of good moments. Definitely became my favorite trio in recent times.

The Culling Games, I have to go say Fushiguro was one of the stars of that arc. My favorite scene has to him going all out during his fight against Reggie. One tidbit from that that makes me laugh is when he goes "I'm running away" and flies off with Nue. Fushiguro looks serious, but he is very funny.

And I have to say all of chapter 265 is a winning chapter for me. I know people chalked it up as some "yap session", but seeing the back and forth between Sukuna and Itadori (after they went rounds throwing and punching each other) was like a change of mood I like but at the same time, there was just this eeriness that came from Itadori despite all his silly shenanigans that kept me on edge. Funny enough, it was another one of those times that he reminded me of Kenjaku. I feel like I have a lot more I can say about that chapter.

Speaking of, another scene I really like has to be the first face to face meeting with Kenjaku and Itadori. Mappa creative team delivered with the music and animation and shoutout to the VAs for their performances there.

Quite frankly I am here to spread a bit of tomfoolery in the TWST Fandom in requests. I made a pair of silly goofy stray cats for NRC. I humbly request, a blue point siamese cat pushing things off the staff desks while they're teaching. Thank you for your time <3

I had the last request to do before getting to this, but I was thinking of this while going to sleep last night. Tomfoolery is always appreciated in my askbox!

Night Raven College Staff and their Silly Goofy Stray Cat

Dire Crowley is already a silly goofy guy, although on a chaotic end. When he took this poor poor blue point siamese cat to his pristine college (and maybe lied on any sanitary reviews), he expected it to soon act like Grim, which was less chaotic than when they came. Sadly that wasn't what happened. As he did one of his special lessons, it seemed that the cat wasn't enjoying his blabber about how such a good headmage like himself would know how to defend himself in a moment of need. So the cat just... booped his little nose and pushed Crowley's water on the ground. Now, that usually wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that Crowley had his water in a glass cup, which broke and sent the poor man almost flying in a jumpscare. After that everytime he was on cat duty from the staff, the little guy would be on a leash. "Even Lucius treats me better, ohhhhh poor me, I'm such a poor headmage ooooooohhhhh noooooo"

Divus Crewel is NOT a cat person. He much rather be followed by a pack of dogs than a cat. So when Crowley showed up with the cat, plopped him in his desk and went away, Crewel glared at the door and than at the cat. From afar it would seem the cat and the alchemy professor were in a very furious staredown, but they were just taking notes on what they hated about each other. In the two seconds Crewel took his eyes from the cat, the stray pushed the papers crewel was grading all over the floor, and proceeded to take a nap. "This is why I always preferred pups over cats, urgh..." Ashton Vargas doesn't usually stay in the teachers room, he is always running around the campus to make sure everything is in check (and to drag some poor student into an impromptu jog), but the moment he stays, He is met with a furious Crewel handing him the stray Cat and slamming the door on his way out. Huh. Well at least the cat seemed cute. The little cat was much happier being around Vargas than with Crewel, so he was acting nicely while Vargas petted him. The moment Vargas went to check his schedule, and jumped up with the poor cat hanging by his life on Vargas shirt, the stray changed his mind. mean human = mean cat in return. When Vargas came back to pet again the cat... there was water spilled all over his stash of protein bars. "NOOOOO! WHY WOULD THAT HAPPEN TO ME?" he proceeded to scream and fake cry while flexing his muscles. He still needed to look strong. Strong men can cry. Mozus Trein escaped for a while but not long. He already knew this was gonna end badly but... the cat looked so cute... Okay, he could do it. And do it properly, different from Crowley or Crewel. His voice was ever so boresome, while in class. The Sophmores were basically sleeping in their seats before the sound of porcelain shattering and Trein's yelling filled their ears. Surprisingly it wasn't Grim. The stray cat had pushed over Trein's dear mug of him and Lucius. How could that cat ignore such a strong and long bond?! When Crowley came for a surprise check, he was handed the cat. Whoever manages to stay with this poor little cat and not lose something precious of yours, will get a PREMIUM DISCOUNT! Sounds good, right? But beware, the stakes are higher than they seem. Hehehehe..."

This was very out of my comfort zone but I loved this so much. Can this be considered a crack fic? i dunno but the thought of a small siamese cat making grown men almost die in frustration relieves my stress.

Character Spotlight: Jean-Luc Picard

Since you all enjoyed our spotlighting of all the characters from The Original Series, we’re going to continue onward by spotlighting all our mains from Star Trek: The Next Generation as well! Of course, we were going to do it anyway because we’re having a blast going officer by officer and reminiscing on their high and low points, but I wanted you to feel special.

And what better way to start things off than with one of the fandom’s favorite and most ethical characters, and the one who sparked his own [deeply flawed] spinoff series, Captain Jean-Luc Picard! So join us on this week’s A Star to Steer Her By as we put on our captain’s bomber jacket, whip out our Ressikan flutes, and drape our Mintakan tapestries over the backs of chairs. Best moments

Not now, Doctor. Please. I already foresee talking about “The Naked Now” quite a lot over the next couple of weeks because everyone’s character ends up exaggerated by the polywater syndrome. And Picard is no exception. We do admit that it is good of him to fight his intoxication and also Bev’s advances, and it also gives us that little horny chuckle and skip that are just so endearing.

Prove to the court that I am sentient Picard becomes known throughout the series for his excellent ethical and philosophical speeches, and the first really big one comes in “The Measure of a Man” and it’s a doozy. It’s no small feat determining sentience (really, sapience) of a being, and Picard standing up to Bruce Maddox to fight for Data’s rights is something to take pride in and aspire to.

The time cops would be proud Picard’s relationship with Guinan is intriguing throughout all of TNG, and his trust in her abilities is enough for him to believe that it is best to send the Enterprise-C back to their rightful place in history in “Yesterday’s Enterprise.” As his alternate-timeline ship is crashing down around him and his crew is dying all over the bridge, he heroically gives the C their best shot.

Sarek <3 Spock In our Top 5 TNG Episodes list, “Sarek” ended up being the only episode that made all four of your hosts’ lists. And for good reason! Picard compassionately helps Sarek through a bout of Bendii syndrome by mindmelding with him so he can get back to his ambassadorial work, and we end up with some of the best Patrick Stewart acting in the whole show for it!

Bedtime for Borgo Picard has a rough time throughout all of “The Best of Both Worlds,” spending most of the two-parter as Locutus, as you’ll see in just a moment. But at the end of Part II, he’s able to fight through the Borg programming just enough to give Data the one-word cue “Sleep,” which turns out to be the undoing of the Borg in that Battle of Wolf-359.

Mev yap! I’m always a big fan of watching Picard speaking Klingon in their ceremonies. It shows how seriously he takes their customs. And in “Reunion,” when he breaks out the ja’chuq while arbitrating the Rite of Succession and also looking into K’mpec’s murder, it’s so ballsy that you’ve got to respect the guy. Or, at least anyone who isn’t as dishonorable as Duras has got to respect the guy.

With the first link, the chain is forged Yet another in a long line of great Picard speeches comes in “The Drumhead.” Admiral Satie gets more and more power hungry to convict people throughout her Red Scare hearings, even through unscrupulous means. Picard rightly puts her in her place by throwing the just words of her own father in her face. No wonder she’s on Jake’s Evil Admirals listicle.

Sokath, his eyes uncovered! Picard befriending Captain Dathon in “Darmok” is so Picardy that I’m swapping it in for that great line from “Peak Performance” I mentioned on the podcast (which is still great, but the screengrab was more boring). And I’m just so impressed with Picard’s patience in learning the seemingly nonsensical Tamarian language and his willingness to trust another being who just wants to communicate with him.

Resistance is not futile While it could be debated that this moment be prime fodder for Picard’s Worst Moments list for not getting rid of the Borg when he had the chance in “I, Borg,” we’ve got to admit it’s such a good moment for Picard to connect with Hugh and save his life. After having been forced into the role of Locutus, Picard has got to feel some small triumph that he didn’t commit genocide this day.

There! Are! Four! Lights!  More absolutely stellar Patrick Stewart acting comes in “Chain of Command, Part II.” Say what you will about Part I (Picard had no reason to be on this mission, there, I said it), watching Picard retain his humanity and resolution while being tortured by Gul Madred is riveting stuff. And no matter how many times I see it, I get goosebumps at his “four lights” defiance every time.

Yippee-ki-yay Here’s another kinda late addition to this list but how can one not include all the sabotaging of the ship he does in “Starship Mine”? It’s clear that Picard knows his ship like the back of his hand (the one that wasn’t briefly a Borg hand, more likely) when you watch him outsmart a bunch of terrorists as he John McClanes all over the Enterprise-D.

How many people does it take, Admiral, before it becomes wrong? Insurrection may not be anyone’s favorite of the Star Trek movies (here’s ours, for reference!), but Picard’s ethical debate feels so immensely right. Between standing up to Dougherty (another evil admiral!), to fighting for the rights of the Ba’ku, to his great line to Gallatin, “I’m not pleading for my life; I’m pleading for yours,” this is the most Picard has ever Picarded. Period.

Worst moments

Shut up, Wesley While we were tempted to also include this moment in our Best Moments list, it’s true that no matter how obnoxious Wesley is being (and he so often is; just wait until our Wesley spotlight), it’s never right to tell him to shut up. Even less so when he is literally the only member of the crew who is actually giving you pertinent information to save the day, as he was in “Datalore.”

Breaking the cycle Since we first watched it, we’ve been simply perplexed by “Time Squared.” There’s a reason it made so many of our Worst Time Travel Episode lists. Picard, at an entire loss for ideas, decides to kill the other him who’s been bonking around to see if that stops the time loops, and then leaves the corpse there for Pulaski to find without telling anyone which him it is! WTF?

I don't know if I want to be Eve I’ve also got to give Picard some guff for making the Bringloidi breeding stock for the Mariposans in “Up the Long Ladder.” Brenna even chastises Picard in the final scene for deciding this with only the male leaders of each society without consulting the women, who will have to basically become baby incubators, and even more annoyingly, she ends up being into it!

Resistance IS futile! While we can’t exactly blame Picard himself for being turned into Locutus in “The Best of Both Worlds,” resulting in huge losses for the Federation, we do have to admit it’s one of his lowest points as a human being. There’s a reason why Picard actually needs to take a mental health vacation in “Family,” something we tended to never see in Star Trek of that era.

Another orphan for the Rozhenkos You could tell by the look on Picard’s face after he accidentally killed Junior’s mother in “Galaxy’s Child” that he knows he screwed up. Couldn’t they have just left her alone in space instead of provoking her to attack them and then finding it necessary to shoot her dead? And now poor Junior has to be raised by his asshole aunts and uncles, thank you very much.

Now now now now! I mean, we were bound to dislike “Rascals” regardless because of its terrible child actors and obnoxious plot, but when you think about it, Picard was also entirely out of character. And it’s not just because he was supposed to be prepubescent: it was because he suddenly couldn’t lead his crew, and being smaller and whinier is no excuse for ignoring all his past experiences!

Mystery solved: Picard did it! If we picked on Kirk back in one of our earlier character spotlights for never checking in on Khan when he marooned him on Ceti Alpha V, then you’re damn right we’re going to pick on Picard for not checking in on Moriarty between “Elementary, Dear Data” and “Ship in a Bottle.” In that time, the holographic mastermind got rightly impatient and took matters into his own hands.

Play dom-jot, human “Tapestry” portrays how brash and short-sighted and tail-chasing Picard was in his years at Starfleet Academy, and how his willingness to get into scrapes got him into a fight with Nausicaans that really should have killed him if it weren’t for future technology. Thank the Continuum for JL’s artificial heart that allowed him to become the man we saw him become.

So it was gik'tal after all While we get that Sito Jaxa had a lot to atone for after the incident in “The First Duty,” we are still uncomfortable with how much Jean-Luc guilted her into going on the very dangerous mission that got her killed in “Lower Decks.” Picard definitely abused his power over her in this instance because he knew how badly she wanted to save face and he exploited it.

Kill the Dorvan V native, save the man Indeed, one of the worst decisions we see Picard make is when he just acts on Necheyev’s orders (hey, another of Jake’s Evil Admirals!) like a little sheep and coordinates moving the inhabitants of Dorvan V in “Journey’s End.” It’s shameful to watch Picard go the route of the Trail of Tears, and then only come around when he’s shown who his ancestor was. 

I think it’s time to try some unsafe velocities We talk a lot about how the Prime Directive isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, but that’s still no excuse for all the dunebuggying antics Picard performed in Nemesis. Especially in front of all the natives of the planet (or what we assumed were natives). What a pathetic scene in a pathetic movie. It’s so clear they just wanted to race around in an ATV for a little excitement, but it was absolutely stupid and out of character.

The triumph of the echo over the voice Fittingly, we have even more Nemesis moments to lament since it was such a detestable movie. All movie long, I don’t understand why Picard is so conflicted about the clone situation, as if Shinzon is literally Picard himself and it would reflect poorly on him somehow. That’s not how clones work, dude! There’s no saving this asshole. And unrelatedly, but here we are: stop ordering Worf to go naked to the wedding on Betazed; that’s just gross!!!

Hi! I, evidently like so many others, absolutely loved THD!! I am spinning it in my hands, bouncing it up and down, examining the fractals it throws off when held to light... it's just SO GOOD! I wandered over here when you posted the final chapter, read your plan of attack post for the series and am now stuck on this somehow being the first fandom fic you've written?? If you're happy to answer, I would love to know what it is about TL and Jamie Tartt specifically that inspired you to jump from original work (which I will definitely be checking out later!! Your prose demands no less!!) and into fan fiction, any why this particular AU gripped you to the point of delivering 80k words of brilliance? Thank you for the story and (hopefully) thank you in advance for the response!

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it! My venture into fanfic is the result of a confluence of a few different factors. I finally got around to watching TL maybe a month before season 3 aired, having already osmosed some of the major plot points from Tumblr at large — most notably the Wembley scene, which was the main reason I decided to watch it and probably gave Jamie an edge going in. The show falls into the sweet spot between "bad but I had a good time" and "this is a beautiful work of art" that made me want to dig my fingers in and pick it apart: it has defined themes and character arcs and is overall well-crafted, but also has a number of flaws and bits that didn't quite work, particularly when it comes resolution of Jamie's arc with his dad — which annoyed me so much that it's the origin of this sideblog.

Jamie falls into the category of like. characters alchemically created for me to like them. As in, the first time I heard a description of the show, they got to Jamie and I was like "if I ever watch this, he's going to be my favourite." And I was right! I have a real soft spot for what I lovingly refer to as "narrative problem children": if there's one member of the main group who causes problems for everyone else and is an asshole that no one likes, they're probably my special little guy (think season 1 Izzy Hands, Catra from She-Ra, Thomas Barrow from Downton Abbey who was the only reason I watched that show), which of course means I want to put them through the emotional blender. Bonus points if they're either very talented/good at whatever they do (especially if it comes from hard work rather than natural affinity), a schemer (I love me a schemer), have a tragic backstory, and/or have autism vibes.

My reasons for getting into fanfic are maybe surprisingly pragmatic: I'd finished part 1 of my original fic series and wanted to write something else before I started editing so I wouldn't be thinking about that universe and would be able to judge the world-building more accurately. I'd also spent enough time in my academic life defending my ideas and having my writing critiqued that I stopped being as nervous about having an audience and became curious about how people would respond to my fiction writing, which I figured would be a lot easier to find out with fanfic. (Was it also a bit of a guerrilla marketing campaign for my original fic? Maybe a little).

As for this AU in particular, I was really interested in how the relationship that we see between Georgie and Jamie in 3x11 fits in with everything we'd previously learned (or could deduce) about his past, as well as how Jamie might respond to being made vulnerable the way he is in 2x08 at the height of his prick era. I fully did not intend for it to be 80k (it was supposed to be a one-shot) but the story kept expanding and sometime around chapter 3 or 4, it got upgraded from "quick break from the original fic" to "long-term project."

Thomas has done to Sanders Sides what Jacksepticeye did to his Egos. (Except Jack made his fandom wait 5+ year's)

5 years ago Jack's Ego videos would get 4+ million views within a few days. Then he started making Merch for them which was fine for a while until he stopped making content about them and only did things with them for Merch while endlessly teasing his fans with false hunts in videos that never went anywhere or amounted to anything. Fans eventually gave up on him ever doing anything but make excuses and shill Merch so they left the fandom. Now he has hired a Fan to write his Ego Lore and is once again making big promises that he will have more content "Soon" but the video's he has released so far have done terrible.

Jack waited too long and now the audience is gone and not here for his content now. I fear the same thing for Thomas. 3+ year's filled with false hope and Merch drops disguised as actual content has made his fandom weary and bored. No one is excited anymore about SS stuff because we think it's just going to be another money grab with no actual story or relevance.

yeah i’ve heard several takes on this jack guy and i can’t say anything about that because i am not familiar but what you describe does sound like what Thomas’s fate could be.

because like. the long waits are annoying, yes, specially if you’re an active fan and want to do stuff but you feel that you have nothing to draw upon to get inspired. but the Sanders Sides fandom —like as a crowd— had always been willing to move on to other things and then as soon as a new episode dropped everyone came back. and then you had your dash full of Sanders Sides even though you didn’t even remember that the blogs you followed posted that kind of content!

so yeah the fandom could stay dormant for months and months and then wake up and shoot to top ten trending hashtags whenever there was a video. and that was fine. but that can stay happening only under the condition that people like what they see when they return.

if you wake up the fandom to say “hey!! here’s content!!” and they all come running and see that it’s an ad, many will be disappointed. but okay. they’ll wait for next time.

few months later comes thomas saying “hey!! here’s more content!!” and they all come running and. it’s another ad. well. maybe next time? two in a row is enough surely? but by then lots of people no longer trust you. and maybe next time they won’t jump to watch the new video, but wait until others confirm that it’s not an ad or something similar before they go watch it. and once they do they don’t have much energy to rewatch it and post about it.

one or two more episodes come out and they seem alright. you’re thinking okay maybe that was all and well get back to the normal show. so you keep paying attention and then thomas goes “hey! content!” and you go and see the thumbnail and it’s a goddamn ad again! so you get sick of it. you don’t come back. you gradually lost your emotional investment that was previously just saved for later. now it’s gone. how do you get those fans back?

Omg guys! I've been officially whumping for a whole year!

That's really crazy to think about! I enjoyed whump (and had been writing it as part of larger, non-whump stories) for decades before this blog, but I'll never forget how brain-altering and life changing it was to discover that there was a name for it and a whole community dedicated to it!

I'm so glad to have found whumplr. The challenges and events have helped me to write more and improve upon my craft, it's been a great creative outlet, I've met amazing friends, read some fantastic stories, and overall I'm having a really wonderful time! It always cracks me up how sometimes the people who make and enjoy the most twisted stuff are also some of the sweetest, most kind people. This community is surprisingly one of the most chill, drama-free fandoms I've been a part of over the years.

I don't always feel like I fully fit in with the community at large (I'm not quite sure that I've fully found "my people" or "my corner" of the whump community as a whole yet), but to those who have been kind to me, thank you so much! <3 I know that whump can contain taboo subject matter, and even though I'm in my adult years, I'm still kind of discovering some of that and exploring it for the first time. I really am appreciative of those who are patient while I figure things out, and I wanna thank those who stick around when I share spicer stuff on this blog. It really means a lot to be in a space where I can delve into new (to me) topics without judgment, as I haven't really had that opportunity or safe space much in my life.

Also, a HUGE HUGE HUGE thank you to my readers!! I know that the release schedule for "We Are TroubleD" is kind of a nightmare as I jump all over the timeline, but I'm really thankful for those who read my work, enjoy it, reblog, like, comment, or otherwise interact.

I've been working on writing a non-whump book series for a few years now, and while that's been fun, it's one of those things that I have to shut my mouth and keep quiet about until it's done since I want to eventually publish those.

... Not so with my whump series here! It's been so incredible to release entries as I finish them and to see people's reactions to my creative writing. I don't really put my work out for people to read much (spare for one fanfic I wrote almost 10 years ago that I still need to complete...), so this has been very special to me! It's rewarding in a way that writing my books hasn't been yet (because I'm not showing those to anyone until they're fully done!), and again, just thank you so much for encouraging me to keep going! The love and comments motivate me in such a powerful way! I love you guys!

Overall, I'm so happy to be in the whumpsphere! A close friend came to visit me back in the spring, and when I told them about whump I was scared as heck at first, but as I talked about it more, my eyes lit up and I got a lot more excited, animated, and downright chipper. My friend pointed that out to me and said they could see how happy it made me, and I've never forgotten about that.

It's silly, isn't it?! But it's a safe way to explore some dark stuff and to work through emotions. I know that not all whump stories end in triumph, but I'm always a sucker for happy endings, and I hope for the best outcome in everything that I read. I love to see characters coming out of bad and bleak situations as survivors- It gives me hope for the outside world when bad things happen in real life.

I dunno how to end this... but I guess happy whump birthday to me! Thanks for joining me on this strange adventure over the past year, and I hope you stick around for many more years to come! <3

The Henchmen are at your service whenever and wherever literally sometimes it gets concerning how fast they come to help you with something-

Sense walking can be a discomfort to you especially if your walking a long distance he usually has a demon set up your wheelchair for you! He also makes a few follow you just incase

Breakfast in bed every day if you want honestly! Name what you want and you have it!

He doesn’t really trust people with you other then maybe his henchmen and kingdice but even then whenever you need help with something he’ll be there half of the time!

The cup brothers definitely tease him about it whenever they can but they are careful due to him being the devil and all 💀

He stuck to your side almost everyday no matter where you are, he just like knowing your okay and safe!

He absolutely loves when you sing to him, he’s a bit embarrassed about it though, sometimes he does ask you to sing him to sleep it might seem silly but it actually does help him a lot!

He loves cuddling up to you in your guys bed, I feel like his main affection is physically affection! So expect a lot of cuddle sessions

Hates to ambit it but you have made him a bit of a better person, and honestly his henchmen absolutely adore you for that!, they love how you remind him to say please and thank you and actually appreciate their work :*)

You hang out with the cup brothers much to the devils dismay, the more time you spend with the cup brothers the whiner and annoyed the devil gets, bro literally drags you away sometimes-

Like said in my other HC he absolutely loves when you pet/brush through his fur it calms him down so much, and the henchmen have gotten saved by you multiple times by this, if you hug him or brush his fur or even just enter the room he’s almost in tranced so much so that he forgets why he was even angry and just goes to hang out with you

Like I’ve said before he loves showing you off has his partner! And if anyone doesn’t like it internal damn nation seems like an appropriate punishment to the devil:’)

If you have a sweet tooth I’m amusing you like ice cream and most of the time if the devils busy cuphead and mugman tag along

But sometimes when that icecrem man mugman ABSOLUTELY DESPISES comes over he becomes supper anxious and nervous around the man

Sometimes he can hold in his anger and just goes a bit ballistic- so you and cuphead are usually the ones who have to pry him off the poor man-

He does though eventually apologizes for his out burst 

Sometimes even though he finds the Cups annoying the Devil likes to tag along just to see this outburst he finds it absolutely hilarious 💀

On another note (sorry for the weird jumps) The devil has his own special box that no one is aloud to touch other then him and you, it mostly contains Valuable items like photos of you and him and small gifts you hav bought him!

Overall this man loves spoiling you rotten, he just can get enough of you! Your love is contagious and it just softens up his cold heart sometimes.. he absolutely adores you inside and out no matter what <3 I just hope you can handle his sassy personality 💀

Today was a very special day for your parents. The thing is you were adopted when you were 7 years old by the Dawson’s, your siblings Antonio and Gabriela didn’t really see a difference in not being blood related to you -you were their little sister plain and simple-. What makes today so special? Well today was Ramon and Camila’s 40th anniversary.

Your mom -Camila- has always been your rock since the very beginning, while your dad always saw you differently. Always treated you like a stranger, never gave a crap about you, always made sure you knew you weren’t family -not totally at least-. He took every opportunity to make sure everyone knew it wasn’t his decision to make you part of his family. So, while today was a special day for them it would mean that you would have to listen to the comments.

Even more so now that you had gotten married and didn’t tell anyone but Camila and your siblings. You had met Jay through Antonio -one night at Molly’s- over 2 years ago. Got engaged at your one-year anniversary and 3 months ago you both eloped and got married.  

You were finishing your make up in your bedroom on the apartment you shared, you were wearing a thin strap royal blue dress. You were so engrossed on making sure you looked okay that you failed to hear the front door and the steps towards your bedroom. Just then you heard a whistle making you jump and turn around to be met with your husband leaning against the door while he admired you -heart eyes and all-.

“Damn…how did I get so lucky?” he whispered stepping towards you with slow steps. He looked so much handsome when he wore suits, you always thought they made his eyes pop. You giggled in response looking up at him when he took the last step.

“You look…wow…so…godamn beautiful!” he exclaimed the last part picking you up slightly, hand around your waist while you wrapped your arms around his neck biting your lip.

“Stop it, Jay” you said between laughter as he twirl you around, “What. I can’t compliment my gorgeous wife, huh, Mrs. Halstead” he said putting you down, arms still around your waist. He leaned in so he could kiss the hell out of you. Pulling away,

“Tonight- is going to be…” “Weird?” he completed making you nod putting your head down. You knew it would turn into a big deal; Ramon always behind it. You loved Camila to death, she was your mom, period. But there wasn’t much she could do when Ramon gets involved, like a good wife she would obey and stay silent.

Most of the time your siblings were the ones to stand up for you. You were too respectful to say something, you knew would come out very, very bad. Just when your thoughts were running wild, you felt Jay’s hand on the back of your neck raising your head, looking at you like you were the sun.

“Hey- everything will be fine. We’re going to be fine” hand still on your face, you nodded line tight smile on your lips.

Arriving at the anniversary venue, Jay claimed out of his truck going around to help you out. Taking a good look up and down your figure, while he smirked shaking his head. He was head over heels for you, and he loved to make sure you knew. Hand in hand you entered, immediately noticing your siblings with their respective partners. You felt nervous, which made you get closer to Jay hugging on to his bicep which made him turn slightly to kiss your head.

“Hey, hey, hey. There she is!” Gabby said smirking at you, making the others laugh.

“Hey sis. Se ven muy lindas, eh!” ‘You both look pretty’. You said while you hugged her tightly, she returning it -knowing how you felt-, saying hello to Matt and Silvie. The latter looking at you expectant,  

“She said we both look very pretty” Gabby interjected translating to Silvie, who smiled and thanked you,

“Hola cariño. Te vez preciosa” ‘Hi darling, you look beautiful’. Antonio was next, making you blush and smile before you hugged him, kissing the side of your head.

“I’m still learning people! But I can understand what she says when she’s pissed. It turns clear as day” Jay joked making the others laugh, with you bumped him slightly. Him smirking and throwing you a wink.

“Looking good Halstead” Matt said, “Well thank you. Have to make a good impression” which made Antonio roll his eyes.

“You don’t need to. You already got our blessing, you don’t need anything else” Antonio continued, pointing at him and Gabby. This made the girls -awe- mockingly, while the men -well they played tough men-. After a moment of silence,

“Hey, Y/N so I was asking Gabby if mom called her. She called me but when I called her back, she didn’t answer. Did mom call you?” you furrowed your eyebrows before shaking your head. He sighed, so you continued,

“Maybe she’s nervous. You know big night, lots of people. Prodigal daughter making an appearance, since the 30th anniversary” you said jokingly to what both your siblings snickered.  Just then you heard the voice of you adoptive father, announcing it was staring.

“I’m right here…I love you” “I love you too. Thank you.” you sighed, him pulling you by the waist while you walked to your sits -drinks in hand-. Man, how you wanted to drown this drink in one sip and get it over with.

“All right, settle in everyone…” Ramon continued, while you looked over to your mom who was sending a kiss to Gabby. Before she looked over at you smiling even bigger -she was happy to see you, it had been a couple of weeks since she has seen you, for everyone else, more than enough-. Then she raised her eyebrows teasingly at Jay, you chuckled before mouthing ‘I love you mama’.

What you failed to noticed was the look Ramon send your way, something Jay saw making him put a hand on your thigh, throwing a glare to Ramon. You looked over at him before leaning to give him a kiss. You don’t know how much time had passed when you heard your mom’s voice calling Ramon in a warning way, which made you look. Instantly taking notice of your siblings confused faces and Camila’s fake smile. You furrowed your eyebrows confused as everyone around you.

“Camila and I…are getting divorced” gasps could be heard along the crowd, your head snapped to Antonio who looked like he was ready to kill his father.  

“…it was a mutual decision” “It was not!” Camila encountered back, “More or less” Ramon continued.

“What’s going on?” you asked looking at Jay, who turned to look at you wide eyes, shaking his head letting you know he had no idea.

“What the hell is going on?” Antonio asked, rage in his eyes, “Just take it easy Antonio” “Easy…You’re embarrassing yourself…” “You’re embarrassing mom!” you exclaimed adding to Antonio’s words.

“She’s not your mother so spare me the lecture, kid” Ramon said sending an angry look your way,

“Hey!” Jay exclaimed standing up, your hand in his, Antonio following,

“Party is over. Everyone get out, so I can talk some sense into my father, who seems to had lost his mind” your brother screamed walking towards Ramon,

“Look at ma. Apologize to her. Apologize to Y/N!” Antonio continued, getting closer and closer to his father, which made both Jay and Matt hurry towards him. You were frozen, you felt like you were dreaming, and someone would come up to you to wake you up. But it wasn’t. You didn’t have a connection with Ramon but as a good sister you didn’t want Antonio nor Gabby to go through this.

“I apologize for nothing!” Ramon exclaimed -Camila had left, no one could really blame her-. This night couldn’t get any worse -oh but it could-.

Everyone was pretty much gone by now, it was just Ramon, Antonio, Silvie, Gabby, Matt, Jay and you, Antonio was going to knock some sense into him one way or another. You saw as Antonio reach forward to fight his father while some of your uncles held Ramon; Jay and Matt held Antonio.

“Get out, this is a family matter!” he pointed at where you were standing,

“I AM FAMILY” you screamed at him, pointing back at him, “NO, YOU’RE NOT” he screamed back.

“Just because you choose to ignore it, doesn’t mean others need to. You are the only blind person in here! Blood doesn’t make you family, Ramon. Because I would be damned if I was related to someone like YOU! I don’t need your empty apologies. Time will run out and you will be left with nothing but misery and loneliness. JUST BECAUSE I’M NOT YOUR BLOOD IT DOESN’T GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO TREAT ME LIKE SHIT” you screamed back. Everyone looking between you two -frozen-, tears in your eyes that you refuse to let out. Surprising everyone by snapping. It wasn’t like you to get into a screaming match, but you were so damn tired.

“You’re nobody to me, never have been, never will be!” pointing to you. You put your head down so no one could see you crying, Gabby reaching for your hand, you immediately pulled away, rushing out of the room Gabby and Silvie following behind.

“You don’t need to repeat it, you know! You’ve said it enough times already!” Jay snaped back, making Ramon’s gaze fall on him.

“Who do you think you are kid” “I’M HER HUSBAND. THAT’S WHO I AM!” your husband screamed; face stone cold. Ramon’s face falling slightly -not even noticeable-. Pretty much everyone was screaming at this point -furious was an understatement-.

“You have no idea who she is. You know… you deserve everything you just got. Don’t. Ever! Talk to my wife again, you hear me!” Jay continued pointing at Ramon -anger all over his face-. Antonio putting a hand on Jay’s shoulder -letting him know he was right-.

“Jay. Got get my sister. We’re leaving!” Antonio said, giving his father one last look, before shaking his head laughing humorlessly, the last of your group pilling out looking for their girls.

Jay had found you outside by the side door of the venue, crying silently -and freezing like crazy-. You felt something being draped on your shoulders making you jump,

“Hey- it’s just me” this made you turn around hands going around his torso while you cried in his chest. Jay could do nothing but hold you tightly while whispering sweet things in your ear and giving you little kisses, -what a fucked-up way to treat such an amazing and sweet woman- he thought.

Your sniffs and sobs making him more angry, closing his eyes and running his hand through your hair,

“I spend my whole life trying to please him. Trying to make him love me, and he can’t even see it…” “I got you let it out…” he whispered in your ear again.

“I- I remember how different he treated me compared to my siblings. He used to go to Gabby’s ballet lessons, and he would go watch Antonio box…and I was just there, but I wasn’t…He’s the reason I question myself if I deserve love…you have no idea how much that fucked me up!” you sobbed, getting out of Jay’s hold.

“I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHO I AM!” screaming then shaking your head, and looking at Jay, who could only look at you pained expression on his face. He hated seeing you like this, he promised himself that he would never let you feel this way, now here you both were.

“I hate myself so much…and it’s all his fault…” you whispered covering your face with your hands. While his cradled you back into his arms rocking you side to side.

“I love you beautiful. I know you…” he whispered, which made you shake your head against his chest.

“Yeah, I do. You are the hottest woman I have ever met…” he joked making you huffed a tiny laugh,

“I know who you are…you are Y/N Halstead, my wife, and the love of my life. Don’t let him get you. I. Love. You. You really think I would marry you if you didn’t deserve love. Baby you deserve the fucking moon, I would turn into an astronaut if I could…” he exaggerated, talking with his hands -you knew it was his way of keeping your mind of things-

“A little late for that…” you whispered, “Fuck yeah!” he exclaimed making you snicker, your face still on his chest.

“You made this badass former ranger fall at your knees. All because of that karaoke night at Molly’s…” he joked, both of you laughing at the memory.

He looked down at you, smiling with so much love, reassuring you of your right to love and BE loved.

“Hey-What he says is…” “Bullshit…” you completed making him chuckle brushing your tears away, leaning down to kiss you deeply. Just bullshit…

I know some otherwise intelligent people that can't seem to appreciate "Leverage". How can this be?

I mean I feel like mostly the answer is "because different intelligent people naturally have different tastes" and also "one does not control the special interest." But here's a few possible answers just for kicks: 1. If you can't get them to START watching, are you sure you're meeting them on their level? I've been telling my bff about Leverage for years and he's never been interested. Then I remembered that he was never interested in MCR either until I showed him the Danger Days music videos, because what he IS into is apocalypse stories and comics and classic anime. BAM, he was obsessed. So I told him about all the people from STAR TREK who work on Leverage and he was like "WHY did you never tell me this before???" He still hasn't actually WATCHED it because he's just become a full-fledged Ivy League professor and also has ADHD up the wazoo, but now it's actually on his radar because I started where he's at.

2. If they've started watching and aren't getting into it, make sure they're watching in the CORRECT ORDER. As with a certain other halcyon 2000s show, the episodes were originally aired in the wrong order, and that's the order that streaming services usually retain (I believe the DVDs have the intended order). You can just google to find the right order, I usually find it in imdb's trivia section. How big a difference the change makes will vary by person, but for me watching int he wrong order made the emotional storylines make a lot less sense. Episode 3, for example, was SUPPOSED to be the Wedding Job, not the Two Horse Job. So it feels like she's really jumping the gun when Eliot's ex tells him he has a new family now -- really, he's known these people for like a month?? Well, that was supposed to come later. And likewise, this was supposed to be the point where Sophie freaks out because she doesn't know where her relationship with Nate was going. But because they moved THAT to later, it feels like she's happily settled into the status quo and then blows up out of nowhere. I legitimately didn't like Sophie at all when I first watched the first season, and it's NOT HER FAULT -- it's because they fucked up her emotional storyline by putting the episodes in the wrong places.

3. A lot of people fucking hate that the main character is a white male tortured asshole genius trope. Yeah there are lots of other characters they can focus on, but Nate is kind of a lot if that's not what you're into. I will never in my life UNDERSTAND not being into it because that trope is literally what got me into the show, but I realize I'm in the minority there.

4. Gotta get a little more serious now. One thing I appreciate about the Leverage fandom is we usually don't get hung up in arguments about what's problematic about the show and what issues people "should be talking about." We realize it's a show from the late 2000s created by a couple of white guys and it's not perfect, and then we focus on all the great stuff it was able to accomplish anyway. I LIKE that. BUT. It means when we go to recommend it to people, we sometimes oversell it. "It's a queer poly band of thieves trying to take down capitalism!" Well, no, it actually isn't. Just because JR likes to talk about how the OT3 is so totally canon actually doesn't make it true. He says he did everything the network allowed him to do, but now that he's making Redemption the way it is, we can guess that's not entirely true either. I think there are actually no canon gays except that one lady cop. And speaking of cops, there are a lot of those, and they're sometimes corrupt but they're very often good guys and sending the bad guys to jail is very often written as a major win, and that is understandably a problem for a lot of people. And finally, they are not actually trying to take down capitalism. I think it was Latimer who told them that they were actually just trying to REGULATE the system, not take it down -- and HE WAS RIGHT. They're trying to fix the system by taking down the Bad CEOS and replacing them with Good CEOS, which is an easier sell on 2000s network TV than it is to a new watcher today. There are other issues that might be more problematic to some people, I'm just using these ones to make my point that some of the most commonly mentioned selling points of Leverage aren't entirely accurate. So just be realistic when recommending it to avoid some serious sticker shock.
