chapter 9: Lucia and the yellow brick road

"So what happened to Lottie's story?" Reel was sitting on Lyna's lap while she brushed his fur. "No one believed her so it got taken down." She sighed.

Since Lucia had been out sick, Reel had opted to stay in Lyna's room for the time being. Miya was also out in a meeting, and Amber and Violet were out doing tech interviews for the play. Lyna sighed as she looked at the wishing well on her desk. At first glance it looked like any other ordinary trinket you'd find at a thrift shop, but for some reason Reel seemed really attached to it.

"Reel."

"Hm?"

"Where exactly are you from? And why do those girls want to capture you so badly?" Reel sat up for a second, then jumped out of Lyna's lap.

"I…" he hesitated.

"To be honest, all I know was one day my home was peaceful and happy, then those girls came in and ruined it all."

"Well we're here to help right? You said the wishing well was an important artifact, so maybe it can help you."

Lyna set the brush down on her desk and scooped the cat into her arms.

"I promise Lucia, Amber, Violet and I will help you defeat them and save your home."

"Master Tragedy's gonna be pissed when she sees how little wish coins we've collected…"

Dominique was biting her nails so hard that they almost bled, Lacey was scrolling through her phone.

"It'll be fine! We still have all the wish coins from the Film Kingdom right?"

"We still don't have the cat or the ribbons though…" Nicolette sighed and twirled her hair.

Lacey went up to the puddle, "Catwalk! Show me where the Precure are." The water shot up into a pillar, but instead of Tragedy appearing like last time, there was a faint voice, the voice of a little boy echoing out.

"What's the magic word?" The voice giggled.

"I don't care. Show us where those little brats are you glorified piss stain!"

"Bzzt! Wrong!" The voice kept laughing.

"Catwalk please…" Nicolette sighed.

"Alrighty!"

The water tower twirled, showing a blurry vision of Lyna and Reel walking to Lucia's dorm, Lyna gently holding the wishing well in her arms.

"Oh?" Nicolette looked up.

"How did they get the wishing well?! I thought Master Tragedy destroyed it when she took over the castle!"

"Well obviously she didn't!"

"Oooooo you're gonna be in so much trouble when Miss Tragedy finds out~!" Catwalk giggled.

"Shut up! You little-" Lacey swung at the tower but it disappeared.

"Ugh!"

"Oh Violet! Amber!" Lyna was holding the wishing well in her hands while Reel followed her from behind.

"Lyna! Are you here to check on Lucia too?"

"Yeah I heard she wasn't doing too well…"

They walked into the enormous building Lucia's room was in. The were statues adorning the hallways and one of a kind art pieces everywhere. Really it looked more like a palace than a school dorm.

"Wow, I knew the school was prestigious but-"

"How did Lucia get a dorm this big?!"

They finally reached a door with the name "Agissante", a large mahogany door with floral engravements.

"Lucia!" Amber knocked, "You in there?"

"ACHOO! Come in…"

The door opened, and Lucia was in her bed, still in pajamas and sniffling.

"Hey girls…"

"Lucia you look awful!" Violet covered her face with her hand.

"I know……." she blew her nose.

Lyna set the wishing well onto the nightstand and looked at it. Lucia's room felt like whatever the opposite of claustrophobia was. It was so large. Compared to her room, the dorm itself looked like it could be a house on it's own. Most of the dorms were already pretty big, since it would need enough space for two students, but-

"Lucia, why does your room look like this?" Amber handed her some cough medicine she had picked up.

"Huh? Whaddya mean?"

"Like it's so..bougie." Violet scratched her head.

"Oh. My mom said she requested for me to have a room like this," Lucia poured a cup of cough medicine and drank it.

"I mean I knew your mom was an alumni, but I didn't think she'd have that much influence," Violet went to the closet to grab another pillow for Lucia.

"Yeah, I begged her not to, but she was all 'Oh Lucia! You can't be sleeping in one of those basic dorms! You need to have the best,' and blah blah blah!"

Lucia crossed her arms, "She's just so annoying! Ugh!"

"Wait Violet, who's Lucia's mom?" Amber picked up Reel.

"Yvette Agissante, why?"

Amber dropped Reel on the ground, causing him to turn back to human form in surprise. Lyna looked in shock.

"Ow! Amber!" Reel stood up rubbing his head. "What was that for?!"

"Lucia your mom is THE Yvette Agissante?!" Lyna grabbed Lucia by the pajama collar and started shaking her.

"Oh yeah I forgot how famous Auntie is…"

Lyna threw Lucia back onto the bed and started shaking Violet, "Auntie?! You KNOW Yvette Agissante well enough to call her that?!"

Amber pulled Lyna away from Violet, who went to comfort a dizzy Lucia.

"Who's Yvette Agissante?" Reel asked.

"Only my favorite actress in the whole wide WORLD!" Lyna opened her phone to an album full of magazine photos of a woman, "I've seen ALL her movies so many times I have every word memorized! I've also memorize every stage play she's been in too! I really want to see her live!" She jumped up and down squealing.

"She's not all that great.." Lucia sniffled.

"Lucia…." Violet sighed, "Everytime Lucia used to mention how Auntie was her mom, it's all anyone would really want to talk to her about.."

Lyna calmed down and her face darkened. "I see..so that's why you didn't want to mention it.."

"It's fine..I just don't want her to be the only reason people are friends with me.."

Amber hugged Lucia, "Lucia, we're friends with you because of who you are, not your mom. Even if we did know she was your mom before, it wouldn't change out view on you at all."

Lyna nodded.

"We'll help you clean up your room since you're too sick ok Lucia?" Violet smiled.

"Wait i never agreed to-" Amber was interrupted by Lyna handing her a nearby broom.

"Alright.." she groaned.

"Thanks guys…." Lucia felt her eyelids getting heavy, as she went to sleep

When Lucia woke up, everyone had left the room, she could hear crickets chirping outside as the moonlight shone down.

"Wow I guess I really fell asleep," she got out of bed and opened her bathroom door, but she was only met with a black void. Since she was still half asleep she just assumed it was a mix of it being dark and her having just woken up. She stepped forward and fell into a vortex and blacked out again. When she woke up she was in a strange place she didn't recognize. It was weirdly bright and saturated almost with a technicolor like feel and-

"Oh my god I'm in Oz aren't I?"

"Owwww….." Lucia heard a small voice from underneath her, and looked down to see she had fallen onto someone.

"Oh sorry!" She got up to see Lacey, who looked really REALLY pissed.

"You better be!" Lacey got up and brushed off her dress, "Do you know how much this dress cost?!" she growled.

"Hey! Leave her alone!" a bubble floated down from the sky, and when it popped-

"Miya?!" Lucia looked dumbfounded.

With a wave of her wand, Miya vaporized Lacey, leaving only her hot pink stilettos. She walked towards the dust picked them up and handed them to Lucia.

"Here. You shouldn't be walking in those raggedy slippers. Who are you anyway?"

"I'm Lucia! Miya do you seriously not remember?"

Miya rubbed her chin with her finger, "Nope!" she got back into her bubble.

"Wait! How am I supposed to get home?!" Lucia yelled.

"Follow the yellow brick road and find the wizard!" Miya yelled from afar.

Of course why didn't I think of that?!

"Damn, walking this far in stilettos is not for the weak," Lucia thought as she walked past a corn field.

"Hey!"

Lucia looked around.

"Over here!" Lucia turned to see Amber in a scarecrow costume hanging on a stick.

"Hey over here!"

"Wait Amber do you recognize me?!"

"Of course I do! Now get me off of this thing!" Lucia ran over to untie the scarecrow from the fixture and gently setting her down.

"So why were you up there in the first place?"

"Some numbskull put me there despite me yelling at him not to!"

"Maybe you can ask the wizard fo-"

"Yeah Yeah, wizard gives me a brain blah blah blah let's just go."

Lucia and Amber kept walking down the road, when Lucia decided to break the silence.

"Why do you think you got the scarecrow of all characters?"

"I dunno, maybe it's cuz I use my brain TOO much."

"Huh."

They kept walking until they reached a dark and creepy forest, brambles covering the ground, and barren trees so tall you'd think they never ended. Hesitantly, the girls stepped into the woods, slowly walking through in case there was anything there that wanted to jump out at them.

Groooooooooowll…

"What was that?!" Lucia jumped behind Amber, "Beats me, let's just keep going."

then they heard the growling again. They turned to see a tin cat snoring.

"Reel!"

Reel shot up screaming.

"Calm down it's just us!"

"Oh. It's you girls…" he yawned.

"Cmon we need you to come with us to the wizard!"

"I don't really wanna though…"

"Don't you need a heart though?" Amber rolled her eyes.

"I'm made of metal why would I need a heart?"

Amber picked him up and carried him with them.

"Oh come on! Put me down!"

"Now we just need to find the lion.." Amber ignored him.

"That would be me…" Lyna came up from behind one of the trees. She wore a lion onesie and looked just as tired as Reel.

"Well that saved a ton of time! Now onwards! To the wizard!" Lucia skipped off towards the edge of the woods happily humming along the way.

At last, everyone had reached the Emerald City, where the wizard lives. There was so much green of all shades, it was like when you go to a home depot and you see those like paint swatch things arranged by hue or something.

As they walked up to the castle, to be let in, Lucia felt a pit in her stomach. Something felt off, but she just shook it off as one of the guards opened the door, revealing a large chamber with a mechanical mask. As it moved a loud booming voice could be heard,

"WHO DARES ENTER MY CHAMBER?!"

"Uh, me?"

A head peeked out from the back of the machine, where Violet stood sheepishly.

"Oh it's just you all!"

"Vi!" Lucia ran up to hug her, "So can you tell me how to get home?"

"Easy! Just give me your ribbon Showtime!" Violet smiled.

"Why do you need my ribbon, and why are you calling me Showtime?"

"Showtime you don't look too good…" Reel looked worried.

"Cmon Showtime just give it to her so we can go home already!"

Lucia held onto her choker, "You all are acting weird.."

Violet's face turned sour, almost annoyed.

"Showtime just give her the fucking ribbon!" Amber lunged at Lucia who dodged. When she looked back at everyone their faces went blurry and distorted and the mechanical mask had now turned into a tragedy mask full of cracks, and it started to move its mouth, not to talk, but as if it were trying to- chew something. Lucia felt herself being pulled into its mouth before blacking out again.

When she woke up again, she was met with the feeling of cold, hard, tile. She looked up at her surroundings, it looked like a cathedral, stained glass murals surrounding the windows. It was dead quiet. All she could hear was the blood rushing through her ears. She looked ahead and saw a large glass box, but could barely make out something in there. She attempted to get up but felt a sharp, stinging pain through her back. She sucked in her breath as she fell back to the ground, tears forming in her eyes. She heard footsteps and then saw a figure come near the box, leaning down as if to get a better look. She could barely make out their features, only being able to identify long messy silver hair that reached their feet.

"Who are you?!" Lucia screamed at the figure. The figure didn't budge.

"ANSWER ME DAMMIT!" The figure looked up at Lucia for a second, but they were still to far away for Lucia to see their face.

"I am tragedy."

Lucia woke up in a cold sweat gasping for breath. She was still in her room. Everyone was staring at her worried.

"Lucia are you alright? You were talking in your sleep we were starting to get worried.." Violet stood over her with a concerned look.

Lucia just started crying and clung onto Violet as hard as she could.

As well as countless of others from the AI generator community. Just talking about how "inaccessible art" is, I decided why not show how wrong these guys are while also helping anyone who actually wants to learn.

Here is the first one ART TEACHERS! There are plenty online and in places like youtube.

📚Here is my list:

The "how to draw manga" series produced by Graphic-sha. These are for manga artist but they give great advice and information.

"Creating characters with personality" by Tom Bancroft. A great book that can help not just people who draw cartoons but also realistic ones. As it helps you with facial ques and how to make a character interesting.

"Albinus on anatomy" by Robert Beverly Hale and Terence Coyle. Great book to help someone learn basic anatomy.

"Artistic Anatomy" by Dr. Paul Richer and Robert Beverly Hale. A good book if you want to go further in-depth with anatomy.

"Directing the story" by Francis Glebas. A good book if you want to Story board or make comics.

"Animal Anatomy for Artists" by Eliot Goldfinger. A good book for if you want to draw animals or creatures.

"Constructive Anatomy: with almost 500 illustrations" by George B. Bridgman. A great book to help you block out shadows in your figures and see them in a more 3 diamantine way.

"Dynamic Anatomy: Revised and expand" by Burne Hogarth. A book that shows how to block out shapes and easily understand what you are looking out. When it comes to human subjects.

"An Atlas of animal anatomy for artist" by W. Ellenberger and H. Dittrich and H. Baum. This is another good one for people who want to draw animals or creatures.

Etherington Brothers, they make books and have a free blog with art tips.

As for Supplies, I recommend starting out cheap, buying Pencils and art paper at dollar tree or 5 below. For digital art, I recommend not starting with a screen art drawing tablet as they are more expensive.

For the Best art Tablet I recommend either Xp-pen, Bamboo or Huion. Some can range from about 40$ to the thousands.

Those are the ones I can recall.

So do with this information as you will but as you can tell there are ways to learn how to become an artist, without breaking the bank. The only thing that might be stopping YOU from using any of these things, is YOU.

I have made time to learn to draw and many artist have too. Either in-between working two jobs or taking care of your family and a job or regular school and chores. YOU just have to take the time or use some time management, it really doesn't take long to practice for like an hour or less. YOU also don't have to do it every day, just once or three times a week is fine.

~My Thoughts on Wonderful Pretty Cure! - Episodes 41-45~

~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~🎀~~~

Episode 41 - Yuki On Stage!:

I don��t have much to say about this episode at all. It’s just more filler.

I did really like the theatre kids. They were really funny. And the story was pretty cute.

Yuki looked so beautiful in that dress. She really looked the part of the goddess she was playing. And it was pretty funny how Niko appearing was only talked about once, and never again. Typical Pretty Cure stuff.

Zakuro continues to disappoint me every time she appears. This time, she’s proven even more just how un-loyal she is to Gaon. And not only was it once again for a minor, but for a girl as well. I’m not saying that in a homophobic way. Just a “no one is safe” way.

It really sucks just how much filler is in this season…

Episode 42 - Everyone’s Wonderful Pets!:

Again, more filler. But this one was cute and entertaining, so I don’t mind.

Seeing Animal Town’s residents and their pets was so sweet. I also love how everyone reflects an animal as well. Like how Kanie’s like a crab(and owns them), and how the mayor’s like a bird. It’s just a fun detail.

I really wish we got more of a realistic interaction between human Yuki and Mayu’s father. He just accepts that she can turn human; not questioning anything. But I should really know by now that realistic parents are too much to ask for in Pretty Cure. They just go with anything, haha.

I’m getting more and more curious about if the show’s hinting at Torame being reformed. He just wants to play, and always has fun with the Pretty Cure. I hope he does switch sides. He really deserves better than Zakuro.

Episode 43 - Feelings Spun Together:

Realizing just how much Mayu has grown makes me feel so proud. She couldn’t even speak to people when we were first introduced to her. But now, she’s teaching her friends how to knit with no problems! I feel like a proud mother.

I fully expected this episode to be pure filler. But I was pleasantly surprised when we got some lore! Gaou and the human who wrote the journal were friends. Obviously, something must’ve happened to make him hate humans so much. My initial guess was that the man might’ve joined others in hunting the wolves down. But it didn’t make sense to me.

So my actual theory is that the other humans did something to the nice one to prevent him from defending the wolves. Gaou got mad that they’d do that to their own species. And since they also hunted his own, he started hating humans.

That’s my guess. We can find out if I’m right after around a month.

Lastly, we got some focus on Zakuro. It looks like she’s starting to question Gaou. I really didn’t expect that. I thought it would only be Torame who had a chance to be reformed. But the more the merrier, I guess!

Episode 44 - Lots of Happiness:

As someone with a pet who’s getting old, this episode hit me hard. The fact that I’ll eventually have to say goodbye to my sweet baby crosses my mind every day. This episode made me put myself in Otsuru’s shoes, and partly experience what that’ll be like.

I didn’t expect to see a pet death in Wonderful Pretty Cure. I knew it was a possibility, but I highly doubted it coming true due to this season’s happy and silly nature. So I praise the show for adding this. Saying goodbye to our pets is a harsh reality most don’t like to think about. But this episode makes us watch and experience the emotions that are happening on screen. It hurts, but I believe it’s a good thing.

The moment Fuku stood up to try and cheer Otsuru up made me cry harder than I already was. It really highlights how our pets see us as the most important things in their lives. All they want is to be happy with us. So even in her last moments, Fuku found a way to put a smile on Otsuru’s face.

I also loved that Torame paused the Gaogaon just to let Otsuru through. He really does care about animals, and he’s always proving it.

After watching this episode, I made sure to give my pets lots of love. And I suggest all of you to do the same, if you have one. Animals’ lifespans are so unfortunately short, so give them all the affection you can. Because time flies faster than we can imagine.

Episode 45 - Friends Forever:

I’ve known Torame wasn’t all bad for a while now. For the past few episodes, I was really hoping he’d be reformed. And he was, but not in the way I expected.

It made me so happy seeing him run and play with the others. That’s really all he wanted this whole time. So I’m glad he finally got to have proper fun.

I can’t believe I didn’t fully comprehend that Torame was already dead before. It only sunk in once he was purified. While I’m really sad to see his character go, I’m happy his spirit was finally put to rest. He was my favorite villain of this season, so I’m glad he got a happy ending.

Once she did find out, she felt betrayed. Not only are you working to take the kirakiraru out of sweets, but the ones she made you probably never got eaten. It made her disappointed and sad. Even so, she didn’t stop being your friend. She believed you just needed convincing that sweets are worth eating!

~ Ichika’s only hobby is baking. It’s her life. She puts everything she has into her sweets. It’s her way to get through to people. So with you, it’s no different. She doesn’t want you to take the kirakiraru out of sweets, so she works hard to make something that you’ll like. No matter how many times she fails, her determination never falters.

~ Ichika often forgets that you’re a villain. You’re so kind and caring, it’s impossible to think you’d be working towards such a terrible goal just by looking at you. And even though she knows what you’re doing, it often slips her mind. That is, until her teammates remind her.

~Himari Arisugawa/Cure Custard~

~ Himari is a very shy girl. So it takes her a while to warm up to people. But with your kindness and sunshine aura, she bonded with you much quicker. However, once she found out you’re a villain, that knocked you right back down to square one. She was extremely disappointed in you. And she even became scared of you.

~ But since Ichika continued being your friend, she couldn’t really avoid you. She even found herself helping make sweets for you. And since she was baking with Ichika, she’d hear all about how you “weren’t all bad”. Her opinion of you began to change once again when started believing Ichika’s words.

~ Like Ichika, Himari wants to at least try to get you to like sweets. But instead of making the physical product, she takes a more scientific approach. She rambles on and on about the chemistry of sweets, and how important it is to follow the recipes exactly in order to be successful. She hopes the science will help you understand how cool sweets are!

~Aoi Tategami/Cure Gelato~

~ Aoi was one of the angriest after finding out you’re a villain. The main reason she was upset was because you gained the trust of everyone. You managed to trick them into believing you’re a good person, whether that was your intention or not. She hates being tricked, so that really made her upset.

~ Even so, she still desires to help you switch sides. So when the others begin their experiments with sweets, she’s more than happy to join in. And she always makes sure you actually try them, and don’t just throw them away or take the kirakiraru.

~ Your warm, sunshine demeanor mixed with her cool aura makes for an interesting friendship. Anyone who sees the two of you hanging out would agree. It somehow works out so well, despite you being so different. Even more so, considering you’re on different sides of the battlefield.

~Yukari Kotozume/Cure Macaron~

~ Yukari is all about thrills. So she’ll do pretty much anything as long as it brings her entertainment. So when she found out exactly what you are, she didn’t care much. After all, it made things all the more interesting. It made those who did care quite upset at her. But she just continued to do her own thing.

~ You were already a bit fascinating to her. Just the way that your kindness seemed to reach no limit, and that you could easily make friends with anyone was enough to make her hang around you. But when another layer of your personality and life revealed itself, she became more and more curious.

~ Yukari isn’t too interested in trying to reform you like the others. She knows it would be a good thing, but she’d rather leave all the work to them. But something she won’t tell her friends is that she believes you have the ability to change all on your own. Someone like you is already out of place in your current position. So she thinks it’s only a matter of time you find where you truly belong. But that’s something you need to figure out yourself.

~ While Akira was disappointed to find that you’re a villain, she didn’t let that get in the way of your friendship. She’s very loyal to the ones she cares about, so something like that won’t sway how she feels about you. Besides, to her, you’re still a good person. You’re just making a bad decision.

~ She really doesn’t treat you any different afterwards. Since Akira could never find it in herself to be impolite, she never brings up your… job. Besides, she doesn’t want to make things tense in the group. She really is a peace maker.

~ Even so, she does try little things here and there to hopefully push you in the right direction. For example, she participates in Ichika’s plan to bake her way into reforming you. But she also shows you around town, and the citizens’ love for sweets. She figured that since you’re so kind, and love seeing others happy, that she’d show you how you shouldn’t take their happiness away.

~ Ciel was definitely the most angry when she found out about you being a villain. Not only is she a professional patisserie, but she’s a fairy too. So she took it extremely personal. She forbid you from coming near her or her sweets. And she refused to talk to you for a good while. It hurt her, because you were such a kind friend.

~ Even with boundaries in place, she still had to deal with your presence, since you continued to hang out with her other friends. But you didn’t interact with her, so she didn’t mind too much. But as time went on, she began missing you. Despite stealing kirakiraru, you’re so kind and caring. It’s hard not to like you.

~ As more time went on, the space between the two of you grew smaller and smaller. And this all happened without Ciel noticing. She found herself acting like your friend again, and she was enjoying it. Anytime someone pointed it out, she’d aggressively deny it. But she did eventually grow to realize her feelings.
