So baffled by the fact that Wikipedia lists Hozier as a baritone. Like just because he doesn't sound like Justin Bieber or any other teenybopper ass white boy doesn't change the fact that that man is cleanly belting C5s on the regular. He rarely ever goes below D3 too. Tenors are allowed to have richness to their voice

John Cena was the Little Mermaid. He had the most hauntingly angelic baritone voice I’d ever heard and he got with Prince Eric at the end.

Somebody suggested I do a gayest section of the band poll.
Over time I will release a bunch of individual polls (per instrument, mostly) asking if you are a player of that instrument and LGBTQIA+ or not. And I'll have a results option. For now, let's form a hypothesis.

this might be a really stupid question but i do not know Music Stuff but um. what instrument is a baritone
Eyyy! a question I am prepared to answer!
So. A trumpet is, like, the standard brass instrument. Its tubing, without pushing any valves down, is about 4.5 feet long, so when you push air through it, you get a partial series based on B-flat 3, which is right below the middle C on a piano.
Tumblr media
But trumpets are kind of in a stupid range, so people wanted to go lower. So to go an octave lower, they have to double the length of the tubing, and that gets you a whole family of low brass instruments:
Trombones, baritones, and euphoniums!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(The slide and the valves have the same purpose: to make the tubing longer to be able to hit other notes. The slide lets you just extend the tubing, and the valves redirect the airstream into little tubes that end up making the total length of the path a bit longer.) All three of these have the exact same length of tubing; if you put the same air through, the same notes come out. The difference is in the shape of the tubing.
In a trombone, if you unwind and straighten it out, the tubing would be pretty evenly cylindrical, right up until the very end. This gives it a bright and edgy tone.
In a euphonium, the tubing starts to flare out much earlier, so it's a lot more conical. This makes the tone a lot softer and darker and more mellow.
A baritone is right in the middle; not as cylindrical as a trombone, not as conical as a euph.
However! These are the concert models; these are for sitting down in an indoor space where it's alright for the sound to go upwards because you don't want to overpower the (WEAKLING) woodwinds and strings.
When you're outside, marching, you want the sound to go forwards and smack the audience in the face. So they made marching models!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The one on the left is a bugle-style marching baritone, and on the right is a bugle-style marching euphonium. Same length of tubing, same range, but different shape of tubing, so different tone, so the parts are written differently. (and different size. having marched both, the baritone is much kinder to arm and shoulder muscles.) These are used by drum corps and by most high schools that march dci-style shows.
... and then there's this idiot instrument.
Tumblr media
This is a traditional-style marching... euphonium? baritone? nobody really knows. You could argue that it's a euphonium, because the tubing starts to flare out fairly early, but I've only ever heard them called baritones, so..??? It's used by a lot of colleges and high schools that are going for more traditional styles.
So like, this:

Just style preferences ig. Marching brass is a weird world.

I’ve never played Portal…or Aperture Desk Job by extension.
I’ve heard of JK Simmons playing a character called Cave Johnson. As I’ve never played the games, I just thought ‘weird name for a character but okay’.
Imagine my upmost surprise when I learned that JK Simmons can sing and sing well. Imagine my surprise when I learned he’s a professionally trained baritone.
So, I decided to give this OST from Desk Job a listen to, Requiem Ad Immortali.
Excuse me? What is this piece of angelic majesty?
Suddenly, hat one picture of Ford karaoking with Bill in the Book of Bill is less of a joke…
Waaaaiiiit…

Pianist Wanted for a Fun Musical Adventure in Bristol!
Hi there! I’m looking for a talented pianist to join me on an exciting musical journey, where we’ll be practising and recording some fantastic baritone opera arias—especially those beautiful Verdi pieces! As we get to know each other musically, we can also explore lieder, art songs, and even some lovely Handel tunes, including recorder and flute sonatas. The commitment is easy-going—just 1 to 2 hours a week at times that work for both of us. It’s currently an unpaid gig, but it could lead to some great opportunities as we create something special together. This is perfect for a pianist who wants to gain experience or try out new musical styles. I’m looking for someone who plays classical piano well, has experience with operatic pieces, can sight-read easily, and is keen on collaborating creatively. If you’re up for exploring different musical styles and want to help shape this adventure, I’d love to hear from you! Let’s make some memorable music together—get in touch if you’re interested! M. ps. Neck-breaking noggin not necessary! 🎶🎹😀
