remembering that Caleb originally designed the Vault of Amber to carry corpses--specifically, he envisioned killing Astrid and Wulf, using their remains as stand-ins for his parents' dead bodies, and that's...a lot. But--

It was supposed to be for carrying corpses. For making them conveniently disappear. When the Nein talk about bringing Molly back to the Blooming Grove to give him a proper burial, Caleb starts ritually casting Vault of Amber. "To take him with us," he says. Because that's exactly what this spell is built for, to carry bodies. And while Molly's lying there lifeless, Caleb is right beside him, still concentrating on his spell.

I don't know. Something about how he built this portable coffin to carry his former lovers who betrayed him. Something about how he was going to keep Molly in there. Caleb still wanting to hold onto his Circus Man in some way. His magic wasn't enough to save him, but. For just a moment, he still wants to keep him close.

And then, before the spell can take hold, when he's still looking down at Mollymauk and truly believes him to be gone--miraculously, his eyes open--

#it is truly so tragic and haunting to me what his original plan was for the vault #and just. how caleb seems to feel like he had no other options--#caleb designing it specifically as his own means of changing fate and cheating death and. the notion that it was intended to hold bodies #how caleb always seems to be holding onto his loved ones when they are gone and cant bear to let them go #the fact that he as literally right beside molly still focused on his spell when this tiefling just bolts up and rUNS--#also would tealeaf survive being in the vault of amber if caleb's spell finished before the divine intervention asklsfkdgh #i think it would be cute to carry him around in a little pocket sized gem. a travel sized tief--#do you think at some point jester was like 'ya king its a good thing caduceus got the wildmother when he did because caleb almost #put you in his magic suitcase--'

Me, completely randomly and with no prompting: Alright, bet–

#my art #artists on tumblr #the legend of korra #original characters #as if I don’t have enough of those already #I really don’t know what possessed me here. I mean. sometimes my mind did drift to this mention of Zaheer’s sisters #because broken bonds is my absolute favourite LaF chapter. but I ever really thought of them that much since Kat never brought them up agai #and then about 24h ago I randomly remembered them again and was like. hey. p’li and ghazan’s sisters play a huge role in our stories #and ming-hua is an only child. so what of zaheer’s sisters? what are they like? do they ever cross his mind? are they aware of his crimes?#and in the afternoon I went digging through my art supplies bc I felt like painting and found my old 2020-2022 sketchbook with 2 empty page #so I thought. why not. it’s been a while since I’ve done traditional art. so I pulled up a reference of rich EK outfits from the artbooks #and got to work. drew this up in about half an hour? traditional sketching is a lot faster than digital for some reason #then took a picture and cleaned up and coloured in procreate. and I’m really happy with the end result #this was hella fun to do as well so.. win-win?#alright enough backstory rambling. on to the characters themselves #I looked up Zaheer’s name and apparently that particular spelling is urdu in origin. so I went off that #the article I found was written edited and fact checked by three pakistani women so I think it’s about as trustworthy as these things go #summiya means ‘a woman of proper name’ and aiza means ‘respected high place in society’. which I thought were fitting for noble girls #for outfits and hairstyles. like I said. I turned to the avatar artbooks. those things are life savers. I just played around with colours #looks wise I colour picked from zaheer and then shifted around a little so they look similar enough yet not like clones of each other #but they’re also teenagers here so they wouldn’t resemble book 3 Zaheer much anyway #kat never mentioned ages but since their mother was looking for matches I assumed they were older than zaheer #he ran off at 11 or 12 iirc. so I decided they would have been 16 and 14 respectively #though in their community matches are probably made much earlier than actual marrying age. still.#if it was such a pressing matter that their mother was ‘preoccupied’ with it. then they were probably teenagers right #that’s what I’m gonna go for anyway since currently I have no information to disprove any of this #oh yeah Kat btw if you did have images of Zaheer’s sisters in mind before this then you don’t have to replace them. I just filled a blank #we’ve never talked about them so I assume there’s nothing. feel free to correct me. maybe someday we’ll discuss their personalities/lives #all I have is that they probably weren’t too close with zaheer. and their lives now are all about husbands kids and status. but we’ll see #hope you like them anyways <3

ok so on my 18th birthday, my grandparents REALLY wanted to go to dinner to celebrate. i didnt really wanna, but i got to dress up so i said fuck it. this was around when debates over trans women in sports were first brought to the mainstream ( as far i know ) right. so we're sitting there in the restaurant, im eating my cake, and my grandfather starts going off about how they're letting men compete against women and how unfair it is and shit. WHILE WE'RE CELEBRATING MY BIRTHDAY. IN FRONT OF ME. THEIR GNC GRANDCHILD. WHO REFERS TO HIMSELF WITH MASCULINE TERMS EVERY TIME YOU SEE HIM. LOUDLY. it's been two years and i STILL can't believe the audacity. like YOU invited ME out to dinner and start talking that shit?? if they weren't family and we weren't in public i would have told em to shut the fuck up

theres a hypothetical instance of asylumstuck being written well and not incredibly offensive and yet every single time i see some old asylumstuck posts i am blown away by how they manage to get literally every depiction of mental illness incorrect. its like they googled the symptoms and then deliberately wrote against the reality of those illnesses. its like they googled awful stereotypes about mentally ill (mostly psychotic or suicidal people) and made it their personal project to include as many as they could

#i am not opposed to the idea of writing characters from anything in a psychiatric hospital #however #like from the bat they use the very sensational name 'asylum' which is okay i guess since its one word and well known enough #but to go on and be like #yeah terezi and john *know the truth* about them being in an au and believe theyre supposed to be gods in a video game #oh calliope has some weird fucked up writing combination of psychosis and DID #where she simultaneously thinks caliborn is a hallucination ('imaginary friend') and an alter that 'takes over when shes mad'#or like #gamzee is a murderer and a schizophrenic and a cannibal #or sollux has schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and its obvious op didnt google if you can have both at once bc theyd immediately see #that that would usually just be diagnosed as schizoaffective disorder #like im not saying you cant write this setting and write it well. but its so fucking obvious its coming from a sixpenceee sort of place #where psychosis and DID and ocd and personality disorders are creepy aesthetic horror movie things #like hey you guys know not every psychiatric patient is psychotic right. and psychotic people are normal right #ffs have some tact its really not hard to google the actual symptoms and testimony from people with these conditions #sorry this got really ranty it just blows me away how ive seen people posting about asylumstuck in this decade #sorry if i spelled asylum wrong in this post and didnt catch it ive got the dyslexia
