im so glad that we never get a clear picture of sophie’s background in leverage & i hope we never do. however i also really like making up various, often conflicting backstories for her in my head. perhaps they’re all backstories for an alias of hers, ones she laid to rest back in season two.

I am once again thinking about how odysseus who witnessed the horrors that the captured women went through (one of his main duties in the iliad was taking the women back home and making sure they were as comfortable as possible and safe because he was the only one trusted not to violate them further due to his devotion to penelope. And in the odyssey part of the reason circe sent him to the underworld was so that he'd have to listen to all these women's stories (before he could talk to the prophet) ). Who was one of the few that saw women as people and respected their space and opinions. And was then put in those exact same situations. I don't have the motivation right now to do a full literary analysis of this (I'll site the sources too) but oh man one day I'm going to write a full essay on this.

Day 25. almost free. almost done.

it is Fake Peppino Friday... but for some reason, the sound of clucking is in the distance? that's strange..... perhaps one of these little Fakelings has something to do with it.

around a nearby town, strange rumors started popping up, about an old abandoned building that had stood vacant for a good few years. but odd sounds had been heard from within, the sounds of hard work, heavy objects being moved, and inhuman, almost cluck-like cries. nobody knew what it could have been, and none were brave enough to investigate. until... one day, out of nowhere, the building appeared somehow cleaner, and a large sign had been hung out at the front, with the bright, colorful words:

CHIK'N PLACE!!!

who was the culprit? well, one step inside this newly refurbished restaurant and you will be greeted by its very enthusiastic owner...

the often-excited, very sociable Poultrino! she started off as all of the other Fakelings, a strange, gooey blob-like creature with hunger and curiosity. but soon after going out into the world on their own, she stumbled across a runaway definitely wild chicken, which she chased after with great interest and then gobbled up with glee. but, the feathery snack awakened a strange feeling in her, such a delicious taste, she wanted to share it with all the world! and thus gave rise to the fifth and final Fakeling...

and now, all customers are happily welcomed at her humble Chik'n Place! there is chicken of all kinds there; chicken wings, fried chicken, chicken nuggets, living chickens, anything you could possibly want, as long as it is chicken! (and all VERY legally obtained, she wouldn't THINK of pilfering chicken from other establishments for her own....) and not to worry, she is very polite and welcoming to anyone who wishes to visit! as long as you are not also a chicken, or a tasty bug or rat.

their appearance and body are quite unique amongst the Fakes as well! and though she is still made out of simple Goop like the others, her "skin" is fairly soft and smooth, almost feeling like soft fuzz despite having no real feathers! her legs, tail, and "fleshy" parts are the same gooeyness as standard Fake Peppino though. despite her strange appearance, most customers assume she's simply in costume, and very few are any the wiser as to their true nature.

though, one more very important fact to mention... you didn't think they worked alone, did you? of course not, all that Chicken isn't going to serve itself! which is why the first person to enter her restaurant was taken happily hired as the first employee!! say hello to Sue, Poultrino's favorite and only employee!! (credit goes to my wonderful friend @plebbicinnabun-arts for coming up with her! 😊✨)

she helps prepare and serve many of the chicken dishes! (and makes sure that the stuff that's served is actually edible when possible...) and not to worry, her boss treats her with great care! she is paid well in a salary of both "human currency" and delicious chicken-based foods! it might just be very strange trying to explain her job to friends and family.

but together, these two help run the Chik'n Place, and Poultrino finds decent success at running a business! her Papa is very proud of her.

thinking again about the controversy about AI deepfakes and how that can easily create misinformation, and on some level, i feel like that's approaching the problem from the wrong direction. as xkcd said, we've had "text deepfakes" for thousands of years.

just. my last reblog was a gif of a dog digging a hole on the moon. it's very realistic; while i'm sure some sort of expert could "debunk" it, I, the layperson, can't see any obvious flaws in it. but i know it's fake, because i know the fact that dogs cannot dig holes on the moon. i don't *need* to have the technical know-how to spot the seams, i just need to be reasonably educated in the subject to know what is and isn't true.

and i know, i know, it's more complicated than that, obviously people can't be expected to be educated in every single topic that happens to come to their attention, but i still think the obvious solution has more to do with having clear, easily accessible information than being able to spot the "tells" of ai, which are likely to be ever changing as the technology evolves.

So like, i was thinking right.

we know that guardian urak will like own several human pets for the purpose of training them and sending them off to alien stage with the hopes of them winning. however we also know that the only person who has gotten close to winning is Till.

Meaning that technically, these other kids couldve been considered Till’s siblings in a way.

This next part is fully headcanon BUT WHAT IF LIKE HE WAS ACTUALLY CLOSE TO THEM OR AT LEAST SPENT TIME WITH THEM!!! What if Till had met and spoken with these kids, before watching them die in alien stage, knowing he himself would eventually be put in the same situation.

What if this is just another factor for why Till hates aliens?? like hes long since hated aliens before urak but this could just be even more fuel for his hatred?? siblings he once had were cruelly taken away from him and killed. Since Till wouldve had to be younger he mightve even looked up to these other siblings, JUST TO SEE THEM DIE DO YOU GUYS SEE MY VISION

i know someone would’ve probably mentioned it by now, but its very likely that urak still has other pet humans he trains similarly in case Till loses or if he wants to win again. SO NOT ONLY WOULD TILL HAVE HAD TO SEE HIS OLDER SIBLINGS WHO HE ADMIRED DIE IN ALIEN STAGE BUT WOULD HAVE TO BE BURDENED WITH THE FACT THAT NOW ITS HIS YOUNGER SIBLINGS WHO MIGHT SEE HIM DIE.

and even if he won, that doesn’t guarantee their lives if urak decided to put them in alien stage after winning with Till, which he probably will anyways. MEANING THERES A CHANCE HE ALSO MIGHT SEE HIS YOUNGER SIBLINGS DIE AHHHH

everything abt the httyd remake feels like such a deep insult to the first film. Insulting animation as an artform, insulting the texture and lighting work that still holds up so so well. Insulting everything they put in to make it such a tightly written and skillful film. Like what could you improve with this scene, the amount of character you get from toothless here and seeing his thought process, fhe mix of accepting his fate, weariness and curiosity, you're just sucking the life and intention out of it for what. To see the dirt in between toothless's scales? Guess what you can already see that in the first movie. To flatten the lighting, remove all mood so you can see how good they modeled his new scales? Show you how real the mulch looks. Whatever. They do this all the time but this is personal (autism) you're being shown up by a film from 2010. She is eating you ALIVE. Even the other httyd films couldn't quite re-capture what they did with toothless in this first one, they remodeled him ever so slightly and he lost that edge of intelligent Animal, and became a Slightly more condensed version of himself now that his personality was established.

9-1-1 Tag Game

Tagged by @rcmclachlan and @screamlet, who may or may not have known that I've watched exactly seven episodes of the series (as well as a whole bunch of clips, admittedly). I'm not letting that stop me from having a good time, but take everything I say with a grain of salt here, because, again, I have seen only seven episodes of a long-running series in a season that, as far as I can tell, has been particularly not good in the scheme of things. So most of this is based on vibes, as well as fic interpretations or skimming Wikipedia once last spring.

Favorite Character: Does fanon!Tommy count? He's fascinating. If not, canon Buck is a completely insane assemblage of personal history and character traits that is hard to look away from, in a good way.

Character You Relate to the Most: Ravi, who's here for the food and to mostly be a professional in a work setting and also what is the deal with these people?

Favorite Episode: Of the episodes I've actually seen as whole episodes, I guess "Masks"? But it seems like the actual answer had I watched things would be one of the Begins episodes, probably Chimney's or Buck's.

Hottest Take: This may be a consequence of the especially bad writing recently, and that being all I've seen, but it feels like Athena's cop/solo storylines are patched in from another show, to the point that I don't really get why she's here as a regular besides that someone landed Oscar Nominee Angela Bassett on this ridiculous network procedural and like hell they're not gonna use her.

Favorite Lone Star Character: Now, this show I haven't actually seen any of, but I know Gina Torres is on it, sooooo probably Gina Torres?

Favorite Ship: Buck/Tommy is literally the only reason I'm here in the first place.

Most Underrated Character: Sure seems like it's Karen Wilson, actual rocket scientist with no backstory. Also, have they really never in all these years given her an excuse to sing onscreen?

Most Underrated Ship: Truthfully, I don't feel qualified to answer this.

This is a really interesting time to be working in the service industry because I've noticed that guests sometimes make a new expression which I can only say I immediately and intuitively understand to mean that they are thinking, "Oh, one of them said 'behind' to to the other! Just like in The Bear!"
