Reading journal 3 again is a reminder that... Well Ford is kinda an asshole towards Fiddleford. It's not just Stan. Like he's so focused on himself and his project and his ambition that anyone/thing else blurs out (him disregarding Fiddleford's nervousness around the gremloblin because he wants to sketch it, and when it goes sideways, him talking about the safety of the project parts BEFORE how Fiddleford was doing in his journal, multiple times. Priorities much?) and he's demeaning towards Fiddleford's own project (which ends up being wayyyy more important then Ford's discoveries)... thoughts on thistle and yaad's dynamic that i vomited in the tags of another post but will now try to articulate here: they're not actually family, or at least they shouldn't be. not in a conventional sense anyway. framing them as uncle and nephew (even in a non-literal, silly fantasy world way) rides more on technicality than anything concrete.

what i mean by this is yaad calls thistle by name and says he and delgal were raised "like" brothers. he talks about thistle like he's an outsider imposing himself into the melinis' space, and it's clear that thistle was never legitimized as a member of the family. for thistle's part, though we don't know how he would treat yaad pre-demon brainrot, it's safe to assume based on the way he punishes him—turning him into a doll—and how little is shown in the way of any sort of relationship between them that thistle only cares* about yaad as an extension of delgal (otherwise i'd expect something like kabru and milsiril, because it's not like another complicated interspecies family dynamic would be out of place, yet there's next to nothing on them even in bonus content, just their scant interactions in the main story).

in essence, they're strangers to one another. thistle's desperation to preserve the illusion of a family, a model where he doesn't even fit, was the snare they were caught in for the past thousand years of stasis. yaad-as-nephew is a prop to uphold that illusion, and thistle is playing a role he's unfit to play. in the context of post-canon interactions, attempting to reconstruct that facade would only be a reenactment of trauma for them both (in a deeply compelling way i'd love to watch unfold, tbh), as that "uncle and nephew" framing places thistle in an implicit position of power over someone he's already traumatized through misuse of authority in the past, a role which also perpetuates his adultification and yaad's infantilization in turn. it'd mostly be an obstacle to any real connection.

best to burn the melini family bridge, i think, and if there's still anything salvageable left in the rubble, let something different supplant it.

And I am with you, I somehow also forgot that Anna was in the original picture, which seems to speak to how memorable she was in season 3 of Staged (as I recall, she actually had less screen time in season 3 than either of the other two, and Georgia had more, interestingly enough).

What's fascinating to me is exactly what you said, however. That instead of using any one of the numerous already existing shots of Michael and David together in S3, they chose this one and edited her out of it. And not only was AL edited out of the shot, they also edited David and Michael to be closer together. I mean...there are choices, and then there are choices, and that was most definitely A Choice.

It somehow doesn't feel like an accident, either. Especially not when we consider that something like this has happened with previous awards. As we all vividly remember, David received an NTA in 2021 that was presented to him by Michael. At the time, the NTA Instagram page was posting pictures of the winners in each category, and every picture was of the winner either giving their acceptance speech at the podium, or by themselves in the press room.

Except...this was the picture they used for David:

To me, this always felt like an inkling of the press knowing something without actually saying it (especially given that the Radio Times also referred to Michael and David as a handsome couple that same night). And to now have the blatant editing of that I Talk Telly graphic two years later, is well...really quite something, when you put it all together.

So yes, that is very definitely an interesting choice, and I am honestly wondering if they just assumed no one would notice or realize. (Which it seems many didn't, as everyone was talking a lot about Michael being absent from the acceptance speech videos, but you are the first person I've seen say anything about her being absent from the photo). I am glad you did notice, however, so that we could discuss it...

I can't decide if I want Colin and Penelope to win the baby race. BOOK only BABY SPOILERS

On one hand, I don't want to rush into a baby story for them. We don't know for sure if in part 2 Penelope will decide to give up LW, is outed, or is able to keep writing, but the fallout from it all would be enough plot for them in S4 I think. They really don't need the money or the house, and I don't know that Pen would want to live there anyway. Let one of the sisters (preferably Phillipa) have it. And I like the fact that Polin's first child in the books is a girl.

(Just a hope of mine, but if they have a girl on the show I want them to call her Felicity instead of Agatha. It wouldn't make sense in the show for their daughter to be named after Danbury and Pen's little sister from the books gets to be represented somehow.)

On the other hand, I want Pen to win because her family sucks and they don't deserve it. And it would be nice for their son at least to have a title since Colin doesn't have one to pass down.

I really like the idea of Europa and Ganymede teaming up with Planet X. Like, they're clearly not over their revolution. But then this giant planet appears, who understands being harmed by careless planets. Who understands their troubles.

At first this is exactly what they wanted, finally another chance! With a planet by their side! Things are going their way. But then they begin to realise X is here to go after Jupiter and don't feel as enthusiastic. At least not Ganymede, as he seems to have the better relationship with jupiter.
