Okay, so:

I decided to lock myself up and hand the keys to @maniacallaughter last night, and we haven't really set a specific time frame or date to unlock. I wanted to go for at least a few weeks, if not a month, but since both of us are super indecisive, I think I'm gonna start a game.

I shamelessly stole these rules from @hornystuckposting's post, but they go as follows:

Something I really like about timebomb is that Ekko actually knows what he's getting into.

I'm not really seeing it get talked about but in season 1 they mention that Ekko and the firelights help people addicted to shimmer get off it and lead more fulfilling lives within the community. I should probably rewatch the scene for the exact wording (might be misremembering tbh) but that comment implies A LOT.

First: Ekko's mission is helping people where he can, he would probably try and help Jinx even if he wasn't in love with her

Second: He has experience dealing with severe mental illness as that often goes hand in hand with drug abuse, namely depression/suicidal ideation like what Jinx was exhibiting

Third: He's probably mapped out best course of action FOR dealing with this and has already figured out his own limits/boundaries. Meaning he knew what he was getting into trying to talk Jinx out of suicide, and was thus more equipped to deal with the aftermath

Fourth: He's probably helped ex members of Silco's gang. The firelights seem to have a theme of healing and repairing and recovering, so they've probably also learned to forgive. If they're mission is to rebuild the lanes into a safe space, they can't exclude people they don't like, they have to make room for them. I think they fought Silco out of necessity, and I doubt Jinx would be the first person they help who's killed one of them.

These all might be a bit of a stretch but I think it really fits. Beyond that, it shows that Ekko can ACTUALLY help Jinx. As much as unconditional love can do, Ekko has the tools for Jinx's recovery and a path ready for her. He also probably knows that her "healthy" will look different from AU Powder's "healthy." On top of that, I expect he knows how to respect her even in the middle of psychotic breaks and won't agitate her already frail mental state

What I loved about Cinderella's Castle is it is so entirely about Ella. We know starkid can handle a show with tons and tons of characters but I found it quite refreshing for it to be so wholly her story? I think it was a lovely choice for this show and man Bryce did such a perfect job of it, she is truly such a star

my headcanon of the day is that harry tried his first sip of alcohol (firewhisky) with sirius.

it was during the christmas holidays from hell, after the first DoM vision and mr weasley is in the hospital and harry’s being treated like voldemort v. 2, and he’s so so sick of everyone and their grandmothers tiptoeing around him. sirius is the only one who truly understands how much (and we’re not gonna talk about how it’s bc they did the same with him, supposed right hand man of the dark lord & betrayer of his friends, nope, this is not that kind of post)

and he tries to do whatever he could to alleviate it but honestly, nothing helped. it was another evening when harry was trying to escape, hide from the accusing eyes, when he stumbled upon sirius with a tumbler of firewhiskey in his hand and, basically out of desperation, snatched it from him and gulped it down.

cue hilarity of increasing proportions bc no one ever told baby boy what would happen if one chugs such a drink, and he spent the next half hour with smoke escaping various orifices and sirius giggling in a way he’d literally never seen before so maybe, it’s not all that bad eh?

from that day, it became an unspoken ritual for both of them come together at the end of the day (or when they’d reached the end of their ropes, whoever came first) and sirius to pour himself a glass that was slightly too full, and harry who kept stealing it from him (with, thankfully, shorter sips)

i have a theory about shinji, gin, and aizen, but i'm not really sure how to word it.

we never really see shinji and gin interact all that much, which makes sense bc both of them have significantly more important relationships with aizen, but at the same time it's a little odd how much there isn't.

like. gin cut hiyori in half. shinji is understandably pissed about that, but he aims that anger at aizen - and this seems to be one of the very few things in the bleach world that honestly isn't on him bc he never told gin to do that, he never even implied it. hiyori was never a threat to him. hell, we don't even know if she was charging in the right direction; if anything, attacking her implies that she was which is a really stupid thing to do when you're surrounded by a bunch of people who super want you dead and would kill you if they could be sure you weren't tricking them into stabbing each other (ofc it could also be a fakeout but still)

but i don't remember shinji's beef ever really being with gin, even tho he didn't seem to anticipate that gin was working with aizen the whole time during tbtp. so like does he feel responsibility there? cuz gin went straight from academy to 3rd seat and shinji could plausibly feel like that sent him right to aizen bc he doesn't know that gin was always aiming for that. did he blame himself? does he feel like he should've seen it coming? does he still see him as some weird genius kid? does he just view gin as an extension of aizen, which is both dehumanizing to an extent but also entirely fair bc gin did that to himself?

the thing is, since we never really see them interact much, it's kind of only interesting on shinji's side of things, bc gin doesn't really care about much outside of whatever the fuck he thought he was doing and the version of rangiku that he has in his head who needs back something that the real one doesn't ever seem to have realized she lost to begin with. gin's so disconnected with basically everybody that most of the time you can usually assume his thoughts are just "lol. lmao" and there's no reason to think that doesn't extend to shinji as well (gin has deep thoughts on: aizen, ichigo, and matsumoto (massive asterisk on that one ofc) and i think everyone else is kinda set dressing to him lmao the guy is Fucked Up)

anyway i think it's interesting to toy around with that relationship as it was in reality as well as how it might've been perceived, but also in the sense of both of them being sort of opposite ends of the manchild spectrum - shinji leans into his childish side but still has a fairly adult worldview, and gin is able to pull off maturity to an extent but was never able to escape a deeply childish mindset

ok sure i'll talk about farleigh start. i'll talk about his tragedy of never being enough as it were and then having to deal with fucking oliver. sure. disclaimer: it's about class (and race) and the horrible reality of the rich. the horrible reality of living as farleigh.

another disclaimer: i'm white! and poc definitely pick up on everything i'm talking about here as it is, and better. i was and am specifically interested in farleigh vs. oliver but it's impossible to examine without considering race. definitely let me know if anything abt this sucks!

farleigh and oliver are similar. it's annoying because every intruder that is not himself is annoying, partly because felix's attention swaying from farleigh is dangerous; there is always a threat of being discarded, even if no precedent existed. the potential is terrifying.

but you'd think he's seen this before, every summer (if venetia is telling the truth) or at least often enough to learn to recognize it fast, so he should know this will pass. part of it is i think still the deep anxiety, and i think he hated every boy that was there before, and it is sort of routine.

but definitely a huge factor in farleigh's annoyance is the fact that he's a biracial (black for cattons, that's all they see) man in a white rich household. he's alert and exhausted all the time. of course he's angry at oliver, regardless of whether he's the first to crash at saltburn for the summer or the fifty-first.

but the important thing is this.

farleigh is very jealous of and angry and pissed at oliver because farleigh sees all the similarities between them. outsider, in financial trouble, whatever it is, in need of cattons; and yet oliver is preferred. and farleigh seems to be the only one to really consider it. felix does not pick up on the hint when farleigh brings up the birthday party vs. his mother. felix's clumsy "different or... anything like that" is as much about race as it is about class, of course. the "we've done all that we can" bit is felix absolving himself of guilt because surely they had, surely the mysterious collective cattons that he's not really part of had tried all they could do. to him, farleigh is different from oliver, because farleigh has been helped. felix is rich and white and twofold uncomfortable with farleigh, even if he's nice about it, even if he genuinely enjoys his company; he doesn't look too close at farleigh because he feels too guilty to come too close. and farleigh can't do anything about it. he can't nice himself into it. the fucking tragedy of him is that he's never enough in the world of the ultra-rich white, even if (especially because!) he's born into it.

farleigh is very pissed at oliver because farleigh also sees all the differences between them. you know who can be nice poor white enough to fit in? fucking oliver. felix says "just be yourself, they'll love you" when oliver first moves in. farleigh was also probably told the same thing, and felix also probably believed that farleigh could just be himself, but even if the cattons were magically not racist at all (impossible), it wouldn't make a difference to farleigh. he would still self-censor, keep in check, be in dangerous waters (because racism is not just about the individual, but about the system). we see that he'd won himself leeway by years of trial and error by the way he speaks to the family, but it's still within the boundaries of acceptable, built by the cattons. he's part of them because they allow it, and farleigh is very, very aware.

the annoying thing is oliver can be himself. like, truly, genuinely, he can just be. and farleigh can't help but envy that.

as a side note, oliver is obviously jealous of farleigh in the beginning as well, because regardless of the reality of farleigh's situation, he was born into it, and hence, at least in oliver's mind, has his position solidified. oliver's whole thing is unquenchable thirst and hunger for whatever and everything the cattons have (including themselves!). he wishes to have been a catton from birth. to oliver, at first, there's nothing farleigh can really do to lose it. and until he figures out the cattons completely, he can't help but envy that.

but i think farleigh senses something different about oliver early on. at least on the level of the text, we have "you're almost passing [for] a real, human boy", which is so important because farleigh is the first to point out oliver's weirdness. the next to do so is venetia in the bath scene calling him a freak, but it's too late. farleigh is too early.

and i like to think he clocks oliver too early because he sees the jagged edges that he recognizes in himself. i think that one other thing that farleigh envies is oliver's freedom to let go. freedom to let go is very similar to freedom to be, but not quite the same.

to be is about perception: farleigh knows he cannot fall out of line, but would like to, and oliver does not have to worry about it at all (i mean, he does, because oliver also performs for felix, but farleigh doesn't know that).

to let go is about the self: farleigh is too scared to even want what oliver eventually does, to even consider the possibility. oliver can let himself want. oliver can let himself act. oliver just can do things and want things. i'm not sure farleigh can.

and so in this scene, when oliver's wants and actions have landed him nowhere with farleigh, felix, venetia, the cattons, of course farleigh gloats. he can let himself do that, because if the cattons are slowly discarding him, farleigh can allow himself this one small victory. he's relieved because despite the dangerous similarities, oliver is, thankfully, not really the same as farleigh, right?

but like. this movie is a love letter to all things gothic. oliver is a white man. he prevails. the brief performance that oliver put on did eventually end up more effective than farleigh's lifetime of constraint. my heart fucking breaks for him to be honest.

the issue that remains is the fact of farleigh's survival. i like to think that oliver came to respect him. oliver is smart, but farleigh is clever. he picks up on everything oliver does (to refer back to the karaoke scene, farleigh immediately retaliates in the cleverest way, in the moment), and he's the only one to do so consistently (venetia, again, for example, comes close, but too late; oliver doesn't like that, there's nothing to work with). hence, stay with me for a little longer, the paradox: farleigh survives because he was never enough for the cattons, but he is very worthy of oliver's attention. in his own freaky way, oliver wants him. look at that.

so. farleigh. farleigh might come back. he always comes back. and i think oliver wants to try harder next time.

Cat!Elain WIP Snippet

Sharing because @sad-scarred-sassy reminded me of a vision I am currently working on

Rhysand skimmed his violet eyes along the room in silent judgment until they landed on Lucien. Elain stood up on her four small legs in attention at his arrival, and in turn, Rhysand did a sudden double take, as if he had just registered her tiny presence in the room. 

They focused entirely too long on Elain. Her wide eyes blinked at him. He blinked back in confusion.

Then a nearly feline grin spread across his face. Elain would know, being a cat and all. 

Well, well, well. Isn’t this an interesting turn of events?

Rhysands voice entered her mind with a low drawl and laugh. 

"Get me out of here! I’ve been turned into a cat. He doesn’t realize—" Her desperate pleading only came out as high-pitched meows.

But Rhysand had turned away from her to lazily look at Lucien, ignoring her chittering. It made Elain tense every muscle in her small body in anticipation. This was it! Rhysand would tell him and he could get Tamlin to shift her back. She would finally be free! She had never thought she would miss her Fae body so much until now.

“I’m here to happily report that Elain has been found," Rhysand told Lucien. The red-haired male straightened his spine, narrowing his eyes at the High Lord of Night.

Elain jumped to the carpet, ready to practically prance around joyfully. She began smoothing her white coat with a quick lick as if in preparation for being transformed back any moment to her normal self.

“She was found elsewhere. She’s back home. Safe and sound.”

What the hell?

“Where? How?” Lucien asked. Thank the gods somebody was able to ask the right questions.

“She was found in Day. Outskirts of the Night Court. Accidentally winnowed herself there. She’ll be fine.” Rhysand did not even bother to look in her direction which infuriated her more.

Elain’s claws instantly unsheathed themselves in anger. 

I think this will be good for you. You couldn’t be in better hands than with your mate. I'll check back in...later.

His laugh echoed. 

“Is Elain alright?” Lucien's voice was tight but concerned.

“Oh, you know what they say. She’s much like that cat right there," Rhysand jerked his chin at Elain's form. "She lands on her feet wherever she goes.”

You bastard! You bastard. You are going to regret this. 

But he wasn’t in her mind anymore, already sauntering to the door. And she couldn’t speak. So everything came out as a low, drawn out hiss. 

“Lady, stop it. I’m sorry, she’s never behaved this way before—“

“I’m not particularly a cat person," Rhysand smirked down at her.

It was the way he was looking at her, entirely too pleased. She couldn’t control the way her muscles tensed, her little behind swaying back and forth before she launched herself at his arm. Oh, he’d pay.
