The blizzard outside was wild, snow falling relentlessly and covering the ground.

Remus Lupin lay stretched out on the couch in the Lupin-Black cottage, blanket over his legs and head in his fiancé’s lap.

Sirius’s fingers carded through the werewolf’s hair meticulously, getting out any knots and tangles.

"You know," he murmured, "If I didn’t know better, I’d say you orchestrated this snowstorm so that we could stay in all day."

Remus sighed contentedly as the noiret lightly scritched at his scalp. "If I had that kind of power, don’t you think I’d use it more often?"

"Mm, fair point," Sirius replied. "If you did, then I wouldn’t complain. I live for these days, Moony."

"I do, too. Say, why do you like snow days so much? I’ll tell you my reasons if you tell me yours?"

"Well, I’ve got the man who’s basically my soulmate in my arms, a roaring fire, and no reason to do anything else. It’s perfect."

"I love you," Remus said, bringing a hand up from his lap to trace his fiancé’s face admiringly. “I like these days because I have you, and you make me happy, annwyl.”

"I love you too, ma lune," Sirius replied, hands still combing through the taller man’s hair. “You also make me happy. The happiest man alive, actually.”

The younger man smiled softly, grinning up at his star. For a while, they lay there in comfortable silence while the fire crackled and the wind howled outside.

"I never thought I’d have this," Remus whispered after a little while.

"Have what?"

"This," the werewolf murmured, gesturing at everything around them. “You. A job. A place to call home. It feels... surreal, sometimes.”

“It’s real, I promise,” Sirius said, his voice firm but full of affection. "And nothing will take it away. I won’t let anything happen."

Remus closed his eyes, moving his hand so it rested right over the noiret’s heart. “I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to you,” he said quietly.

"Nothing will happen to me. Promise. We’re stuck with each other."

"Forever?"

"Forever."
