btw most universities to my knowledge keep their reading lists behind access barriers (ie. only students enrolled at the institution on the course in question can see them) so i thought i’d just let you all know that durham university has all of its reading lists available online for free without needing student access. do with this information what you will.
#.txt#a rare W for maybe the worst place in the whole world#obviously you'll still need to find a way to get access to the actual texts lol but the lists are there!#if anyone knows of any others please add on - i had a bit of a google with some more institutions but couldn't find any

I've managed to curate my small misogyny-free space both online and in real life, and now I'm no longer used to misogyny, it's no longer normal to me. So when I accidentally glimpse it, I'm not desensitized to it, I'm always shocked and unbelieving.
If I notice a m*n talking about a woman like she's 'just some ***' I'm immediately aware that this is in fact a demonic creature who needs to be burned. If I see anyone using a slur against women or pretending women are at fault for any of the world's issues, the hair on my neck stands up at the unbelievable amount of hatred.
Anyone implying that women should be in any way controlled, punished, forced to do anything against their will or dedicate their lives to anyone but themselves, is preposterous and villainous to me, I'm at loss that someone could even think that way about a half of the human population who are creators and administrators of life.
I know I am in a bubble, but it feels different knowing deeply in your heart that all of this is not normal, that casual or normalized hatred against women is absolutely insane, that it's sharp and painful and dehumanizing at every turn. It's insane to realize that women just have to live like this, believing all of that is normal, that I once lived like this, wondering what was wrong with me and why I couldn't just be what everyone was expecting me to.
I think still, if I can make a small space without this hate present in it, without anyone or anything implying we should be anything but free, anything but full complete human beings with absolute control over our lives, then we can strengthen and grow these spaces, and get more women in, have more women experience what life is like when hatred is removed. There is hope for women.
#radical feminism#sensitized to misogyny#i know its everywhere but i have no contact with males#and only communicate with women who see the world trough the female perspective#so yeah misogyny free experience rn!!!#except for you know#healthcare jobs government institutions#but i just pretend these things are not there#so they can't bother me in my safe space#i was not meant to change the system from the inside#i was made to create functional spaces outside of it all#so there would be a refuge#and from a refuge we can build community#>:)

My tolerance for rom-coms has hit an all time low. Every time these idiots are like, "Let's move in together, it's the most romantic thing a couple can do to show they love each other!" I just feel that smoker meme in my soul.
Marriage, folks, the thing you're actually thinking of is marriage.
There's nothing more romantic than swearing to spend your life together. But admit it, you're too cowardly to commit to any ACTUAL romance in your life. :/
#this is so dumb#all these countries around the world wonder why the birth rate is so low#BECAUSE Y'ALL AIN'T GETTIN' MARRIED#“We need to legitimize the idea that you can have kids outside of marriage”#my guy#MY GUY#you are in for so many worlds worth of hurt you dang idiot#marriage is the only institution in which children can thrive#and allowing your culture to degrade that is just ASKING for every kind of imaginable disaster to fall upon your children and grandchildren#i need to find another action flick to soothe my ruffled spirit

You think THIS site and THIS generation have no media literacy? Guys I read a twitter conversation yesterday between middle aged men where among other things they said the fascist allegory in the Star Wars prequels is the Jedi. That the Jedi having a strict code makes them “arguably fascist.” My god. Award for the least media comprehension on God’s green earth goes to cishet boomer sci-fi fans.
#they do this every fucking time like with x-men and orwell too.#i am somewhat jedi critical#but for actual reasons that make sense#and that have more to do with legends content than canon material#and also with wider real world discourses about the role of religious institutions in political bodies#which is not unique to the jedi.#anyway i want to feed these people to giant iguanas genuinely#in the same thread someone else was having a debate about the OT being a vietnam war allegory#like “that can’t be true bc it implies the empire is the US”#like yeah. yeah that’s exactly the ENTIRE point. fucking CHRIST#star wars#star wars discourse#jedi order#prequel trilogy#jedi discourse#mine

ARE VACCINES CAUSING CANCERS IN ALL OF US?
"Judy Mikovits, PhD is a biochemist and molecular biologist with more than 33 years of experience. Internationally known, a veritable “rock star” of the scientific world, she served as the director of the lab of Antiviral Drug Mechanisms at the National Cancer Institute before directing the Cancer Biology program at EpiGenX Pharmaceuticals. She later developed the first neuroimmune institute. Her early work focused on cancer and HIV, her latest on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and autism. She has published more than 50 peer-reviewed articles."
In 2011, she made the discovery that destroyed her career. She found that at least 30% of our vaccines are contaminated with gammaretroviruses. Not only is this contamination associated with autism and chronic fatigue syndrome, it is also associated with Parkinson’s, Lou Gehrig’s disease, and Alzheimer’s.
The retroviruses contaminating vaccines originate from mice used for research. Dr. Mikovits asks, “How many new retroviruses have we created through all the mouse research, the vaccine research, gene therapy research? More importantly, how many new diseases have we created?”
“When they destroyed all of our work, and discredited everything I or Frank Ruscetti had ever published, and arranged for the publication of my mug shot in Science, the NIH very deliberately sent the message to researchers everywhere about what would happen to any honest scientist who dared ask those important questions.”

something something guy who is so so unhealthily dependent on these very specific formalized roles & narratives they've been cast into to maintain an ultimately broken relationship & can't handle it when the people around him increasingly start going off script
#i'm not articulating this well but it's sooo interesting to me#this + him not being willing to believe the institution is also breaking the 'rules' & doing evil things bc it doesn't fit this world view#he's so invested in. even though deep down he sort of knows this but he won't even let it get past his subconscious bc it's so distressing#AND like him convincing himself the joust incident was an accident bc he'd repeated it so many times even tho he Knows it wasn't#thoughts#nimona#nimona comic#^ more thoughts on this in the rbs btw

You guys ever think about how the prophecy was talking about a "new moon" and how MC's almost-canon-name is "Luna"?
By the way, you guys know what happened on September 3rd? MC got cursed and sent to Darkwick as a result. Incidentally, (assuming Tokyo Debunker's story took place in 2024...) September 3rd would also be a night of new moon. 🌑
Coincidence? Perhaps it is... but!
I know this is a reach but what if the prophecy wasn't only talking about the ghouls but also MC?
There's also how MC got placed in / associated with the old Clementia dorm and Clementia is supposedly the Roman goddess of salvation and mercy.
Ringing any bells?
#don't mind me much since it's another#[Detective Reaching Mode Activated]#tokyo debunker#tkdb theory#i guess?#this is biased but i hope tkts-chan is the most special girl ever in the tkdb universe (acting like an doting parent) (is insane)#anyway the prophecy is prolly the reason why the Institute is trying to collect ghouls from all over the world#(don't think too much of it tho; it's anime logic on the work here)#there are so many possible interpretation of the prophecy but i'm currently not coherent enough gomen#re-reading this post and everything may not be related much#i really does sound insane#this is what happened when you lack sleep folks

One of the weirdest things I love about TMA is how embarrassing it all is. Like, romanticism is fun sometimes, but embarrassment equally so.
If you've ever meaningfully interacted with the supernatural, you know that shit can be awkward. If you've ever had an office job, you know how embarrassing it can be! Pretty much if you've ever experienced any form of life, you know how embarrassing a day of existence is.
And my god Jon's life is embarrassing! He can't stop getting kidnapped, he doesn't have any friends, he can't even get his job done due to infinite supernatural interruptions. That's really embarrassing.
He's an adult who effectively has to relive being a child because he's thrust into a world that no longer makes sense, and that vulnerability is so real!
But Jon's not the only one who's going through embarrassing stuff, oh no! Martin is hopelessly in love with his cruel boss who barely looks at him; Tim and Sasha hooked up only for Sasha to break it off against Tim's wishes; and hell, Melanie literally got laughed off of YouTube and BECAME A MEME.
These people are going through awful, otherworldly terrors, but not once is it ignored that they must still suffer through painstakingly awkward everyday moments too.
I suppose it comes down to realism. Understanding that the supernatural can become just another part of life in an annoying way, and letting the characters be normal fumbling people makes it hit so much closer to home.
I think all this is why The Magnus Archives is popular not only as horror, but as an explanation of human relationships; the everyday realism is so deeply entwined with the otherworldly but both exist in their own right. And this in itself is realistic, as how far away is horror from your daily life, really? And how different is fear to embarrassment?
#I just think that in a world all about image there's a lot tk be said about the horror of embarrassment...#God i just love the humanity of TMA it's so important to me#Characters are awkward!!! If you're writing real people and your dialogue isn't overly stylised PLEASE LET THEM BE AWKWARD#(I have no idea if any of this even makes sense but I feel deeply passionate about it so hopefully that drives it into your brain 💀)#tma#the magnus archives#the magnus institute#jonathan sims#martin blackwood#jonmartin#jmart#tim stoker#sasha james#melanie king

one of the things in Life is that even the most radical or anti establishment of ventures, particularly anything involving “community” or “mutual aid” still relies on really normie skills to be accomplished if it wants to be effective for real human beings in the long run. Like a queer housing group or any kind of shelter is still a House that needs to be clean and have clean toilets. A radical off the grid farm is still a farm where the biological necessities of crops might very well require you to wake up at 5:00 AM for weeks on end in order to have a crop. A Union meeting still might need childcare from qualified individuals who can take care of a bunch of preschoolers for hours on end. An abortion fund is still a monetary operation with a flow of cash that needs to be taken care of. Any operation needs to have regularly scheduled meetings set up and attended in the long run. A lot of these things aren’t really negotiable based on vibe or ideology so much as things that need to be done here, in the real world, in order to make peoples lives better, and no amount of perfect buzzword ideology will change that.
#I think doing shit in real life makes you more of a normie like not less radical but more of a normie#The reality is a bunch of the things that last for a long time look and feel really normie because they are#And a lot of times other things flounder for really practical reasons that then get written off as The Whole Wide World was against us#There’s a real trend of it being specifically the people who want to run from [capitalist society] and [the institution] who#Want to start from scratch the things that will be in some way institutions or have normie issues if they’re successful

"mormonism is american exceptionalism" has gotta be my least favorite anti-mormon take out there like you could talk about literally anything and THAT'S what you're going with????????? like you can talk about our weird relationship with manifest destiny and colonisation (extremely valid talking points!!!!!!) but to act like some kind of specific allegiance to the united states as an institution is inherent to our doctrine is so..... silence......
#me logging on to the internet tm to be called a dangerous cultist for the tenth time this week#like have y'all not considered that maybe our church has developed cult-ish practices because we keep being called satan spawn???????#and that fuels our collective insulated persecution complex as a faith minority? like let's just sit down and have a conversation about why#somebody's faith might be meaningful to them and the human reasons why they hold onto it-- and help them extricate that faith from fascism#that would be a million times more helpful and constructive for everyone involved#to put it in simple terms: being mean to mormons will only produce more mean mormons :/#making mormons feel like they're in danger will make mormonism dangerous#this goes for literally any community under the sun#saw a take the other day that missions are meant to train missionaries to be scared of the world outside of the church#like??????#we're never gonna solve the actual problems with this church/institution/cult if y'all keep saying nonsense like this 😭😭😭#oh my gosh 😭#vent over

So I was on reddit and I saw someone saying this in response to somebody else saying there would be no character in asoiaf that wouldn't have killed aerys in jaime's place:
"Once the Rossart was dead, there was virtually no threat of wildfire nukes. There was practically no reason to kill him. He wanted to kill him."
And I just..get so frustated bc, let's put it this way: aerys is the king, that alone makes everyone around him be his yes man, add to this that the king is a mad fucker and will kill anyone if he so much as wakes up with a bad mood and you have the unlucky pleasure of passing by him in the morning, everyone around him will be even less inclined to so much as question him. This is a court that just watches as the king kills anyone, even high lords, in unnecessarily cruel ways just bc, as he killed one of his hand's bc he refused to carry out one of his orders or something, even the queen has no protection against the king. These are the ppl surrounding the king. So you're telling me that the city will be safe from going kaboom just bc you, the 17yo hostage guard, killed one of the king's MANY pyromancers and put the king in a cell? No one will see the mad fucker in a cell and get him out? Once out of his cell, the mad fucker totally will not turn and say "hey, this bitch put me, the king, in jail, that's treason, kill him" and they will just not do it? You're telling me the other pyromancers totally did not have a back up plan of "if they didn't hear from Rossart every 2 hours or something push the nuclear button"? No? Everything would be totally fine as long as you kill the ONE errand man but keep alive the man giving the orders everyone feels compelled to obey, be it by duty or fear, that's totally fine right? it'll work out, promise ✊
the thing about redditors is that they cannot read and they also refuse to engage with what this story is actually exploring like a good 90% of the time
#ask#like u can make an argument that someone else in the same exact scenario mightve stopped it too#like barry etc#but god it misses the point of the aerys tragedy#which is the fact that so many ppl allowed him and gave him power to do what he did#bc the institution they are in and the system they r in#to the point that it escalated to a nuke#with only a teenager to be even there to stop it#and if u know the world we r living in this is not unrealistic actually 💀#+#‘a king keeps no secrets from his kingsguard’#and then from the visions we get from ned and jaimes weirwood dream#it keeps being indicated that w some of them even this threat wasnt enough lol#valyrianscrolls#not even touching ‘he didnt need to kill aerys he could’ve avoided that’ bc i find that just hilarious sorry#on multiple levels
