I watched it. I watched Saw V. Never cared about those movies before.
Holy fuck he was going to let him live. He was going to save him. But what then. What would happen if he did live…ok but that’s why predicting outcomes bc he had to be there to disrupt it.
Lmao.
#it was so funny#like so homoerotic#and so well thought out#like oh ok so the jigsaw guy was actually kind and not a murderer bc he let ppl make their own choices#and all the people could’ve worked together instead of died#and if all 5 ppl survived instead of killed each other#they’d only have to have given like 2 pints of blood each#and mark hoffman being trained by jigsaw guy#like ok here’s ur chance ur going to be my cute little apprentice murder (;#and the fact there’s no unnecessary shit#it gets right to the point#there’s no meaningless wives or backstories#the backstory is brief#well ofc Ik there were 4 other movies or whatever#but it was so good#i haven’t paid attention to a movie or cared abt a movie in so long#and saw movies I never liked if my parents watched them or whatever#bc w my parents it’s awkward but also just??? being able to enjoy it#being able to fill the room with my thoughts & feelings & it being my own curated experience#and I love Scott Patterson but this is the only time I’ve seen him as not Luke Gilmore Girls#he’s so. idk what it is#and I love the name Peter#and his character was so good bc he didn’t even have that many lines#and how he was figuring everything out sooo fast he was cursed and doomed by the narrative#and how it was a searching narrative like#they were seeking each other out like a fucking love story#and the asking questions or speaking to Mark Hoffman#in rhetorical terms like when he’d piece more of it together#like ok…why is it as if you’re forming a connection with him…#and Mark constantly trying to get in contact with Peter and finding him

Impulse was painfully, bitterly, human. Just a normal guy, with normal hair and normal eyes and friends that were anything but. Even Mumbo, who he'd thought to be his one human companion, turned out to be something different. Something special.
When it had finally been revealed to the knights that Mumbo was, in fact, a shapeshifter, no one was really surprised. With the amount of non-humans in the group, and magically gifted ones besides, it was only a matter of time before Mumbo revealed that he was obviously, not human.
While they were all joking around and laughing over Mumbo's newly revealed ability, Scar had turned to Impulse with that friendly smile of his and asked, “So, when are you gonna reveal your super secret backstory to us, Impulse?”
Impulse had laughed off the pang of bitterness and guilt combined (and how stupid was that, feeling guilty over the fact that he didn't have a special ability or secret backstory to reveal?) and shook his head. “Nah,” he had responded with a shrug, “I'm just a guy. Just Impulse.”
Just a guy. Just Impulse.
Simple words that had become a mantra over the past few days, lingering in the back of Impulse's mind. A whispered chant, just audible enough to catch his attention but hardly loud enough to deserve a shushing. They were an apt description of what he was– of who he was, of course, and Impulse knew that. He had known that all his life, and, up until this point, had convinced himself that he was fine with that.
(He never had been ‘fine’ with it in the first place. It’s why he trained from dawn till dusk for years, honing his strength and skills. He couldn’t fly, couldn’t breathe underwater, couldn’t withstand a fiery blaze, and most certainly couldn’t teleport. But he was smart, and he was strong, and that was enough. Wasn’t it?)
Mumbo was good with redstone, too. He was a genius, even. What with his constant inventions and how he thought outside of the traditional redstone conventions, and the way he brushed off any compliments with a wave and a soft, “It’s quite simple, really.”
Impulse’s mother had told him that everyone was special. That they were all made up of stardust and the love of the universe. It was an old wive’s tale, but it had been comforting.
Now, surrounded by shapeshifters and avians and magical beings, Impulse was wondering if the universe forgot to give him a little stardust.
The sun had just begun to rise, bathing the world in its golden light, as Impulse got dressed and headed out to the makeshift training area to work on his swordplay. It wasn’t long before he was hacking away at one of the many training dummies the knights had made together in an effort to “work on their arts and crafts skills”, going through the familiar motions of a swordfight.
Just a guy. Just Impulse.
He’d always wondered what it was like to fly. To dive deep into the ocean, without fear of drowning. To never feel the terrible pain of burns, or to get to where you wanted to be instantly.
Just a guy. Just Impulse.
It wasn’t like being a human was bad. Not at all! Being human was great! He didn’t have to worry about getting hurt by the rain, or his wings being targeted in battle, or, void forbid, being hunted for sport. He could do so much as a human!
But it wasn’t enough. Not anymore.
Just a guy.
Sweat dripped down the back of his neck as he continued fighting, his breaths coming in short pants. In his mind’s eye, the training dummy was an enemy, and it was his job to defeat it. Slicing and stabbing and slashing, Impulse went back and forth in a dance all his own, in a battle that held no weight on the future.
Just–
“Impulse?”
Pulled from his reverie, Impulse stumbled to a rather clumsy halt, his sword arm falling to his side as he looked over for who called his name. Standing at the edge of the arena was Pearl, leaning against the little wooden fence that surrounded it. She wore a bright smile as always, but something akin to concern shone in her eyes, barely hidden.
“Huh?” Impulse got out, before blinking and shaking his head. “Sorry, Pearl, I uh– I didn’t see you there. Were you calling me?” His muscles were aching, and he was absolutely drenched in sweat. Just how long had he been training for?
Pearl nodded. “Yeah, mate. You were fighting that dummy with the intention to kill, huh?” she joked, gesturing to the very much falling apart training dummy. She continued, “You were training for a while. Lost in your own world, were ya?”
Impulse glanced up at the sky, internally wincing at how high the sun had climbed without him noticing. “Yeahhh…” He laughed, scratching the back of his neck. “Kinda got caught up in my own thoughts, y’know.” He looked over at the training dummy. “Uh… sorry, mister dummy,” he apologized awkwardly, which Pearl found hilarious judging by her soft laughter.
“You should come get some breakfast and wash up,” Pearl advised, “I’m heading to the village in a bit to pick up some stuff– do you wanna come with?”
Impulse shrugged, before walking over to where Pearl was and hopping the fence. “Sounds like fun, and I don’t have anything else planned.”
Pearl grinned, and gave Impulse a fistbump. “Great! I’ll go get the horses ready, if you wanna go eat and change real quick?”
“Will do!” Impulse gave her an over the top salute. “Thanks, Pearl!”
He began to head back to his tent at a slow jog, and decided that maybe it was best if he ignored that soft voice in his head. His friends were incredibly perceptive, and the last thing that he wanted was for them to get all worried about him and start asking questions.
Would they judge you? Call you jealous?
Maybe. And maybe Impulse was jealous, at least a little. Did that make him a bad person? For wishing he could be more than what he was? For hoping that he had some chance at standing on the same level as his friends?
Impulse tried to shake those thoughts out of his head as he quickly scarfed down some breakfast and changed out of his sweat-soaked training clothes. Pearl had just finished with getting the horses ready by the time Impulse returned, and greeted him with a smile. “Ready to go?”
Impulse returned her grin as he mounted his horse. “You know it. Road trip time!”
The trip to the village was a short but pleasant ride through the forest, on a well-worn path the knights had traveled many times. Impulse and Pearl made idle conversation as they rode, Pearl mentioning that she wanted to stop by a couple of shops and the library. They arrived at the village after about thirty minutes and dismounted, tying their horses reins to the hitching post before grabbing their bags and walking into the village.
Impulse had been here before, of course, but visits had been rare recently with… well, everything that had happened. It was nice to get back out and just walk through the village, without any life-threatening or world-ending danger looming over their heads. And as a bonus, he got to hang out with Pearl, which he always enjoyed.
They went through the shops one by one, Pearl picking up supplies and things they had run out of. Eventually, they were finished, and Pearl pulled Impulse rather excitedly toward the library. He didn’t blame her– he was the exact same way around candy shops. Everyone needed a place that they were excited to go to, in his opinion.
The librarian– a woman with messy black hair– looked up from behind the counter and greeted them with a nod, before going back to reading her book. Impulse caught a glimpse of the name tag that was pinned to her shirt, the name ‘Evelyn’ written in neat cursive.
Pearl led Impulse into a room full of bookshelves and, of course, books. “I’m going to go look for some books,” she whispered to him, “you can go off and see if there’s anything that catches your eye.”
Impulse nodded. “Alright. See you in a bit,” he whispered back, and watched Pearl disappear into the maze of bookshelves.
Looking around, Impulse began to wander. The library was well stocked with literature on nearly every subject he could think of, with golden labels on the end of every bookshelf to indicate what the books in that particular section were about. He found himself walking past the shelves that normally would’ve had his attention– books about redstone and industry ignored as he gazed at the shelves.
Finally, a particular bookshelf caught his eye. The label told him that the books here were about all things supernatural, and with a shrug, he began to walk through the aisle. Most books seemed to be rather thick, scholarly texts, which made sense given the topic. A couple books drew his attention– an old book with a faded purple cover and block letters that spelled out Evolution in all capitals, a book on curses, and a book that probably had been misplaced, given its title– The Legend of Theseus. The mythology shelf was right next to the supernatural one, so Impulse took the book and brought it back to where it was hopefully supposed to be.
Once the book was back in the mythology section– next to a very old book with a cracked spine and strange symbols on the cover– Impulse headed back to the supernatural section, glancing over the titles with relative disinterest until a particular book caught his eye. He bent down and carefully took it from the shelf, instinctively brushing off the cover and flipping it open to the cover page. Skimming the summary of the book, Impulse found himself nodding along to the words.
He closed the book and glanced around. Pearl was nowhere to be seen, so he likely still had some time. Tucking the book under his arm, Impulse walked back to the main room of the library, placing the book on the counter. He cleared his throat awkwardly, and Evelyn looked up from her book. “I’d like to check this out, please.”
Evelyn took the book, looking at the spine and writing down something on the sheet in front of her. “An’ what’s your name, sir?” she asked, not looking up from the sheet.
Impulse blinked. “Ah– uh, Impulse.”
Evelyn wrote his name down, before setting her red feather pen down and handing him the book. “Alright, sir. If you’d please return this by the end of next month, and no writin’ or rippin’ any pages out unless you wanna pay for it.”
Impulse took the book and placed it in his bag with a thank you, just as Pearl returned with her collection of books. She gave him a smile, which Impulse returned– albeit a little nervously.
As they were walking out of the library, Pearl asked Impulse if he had seen anything he liked. Impulse answered with a shrug and a shake of his head. “Nah. I’m not much of a reader.”
Something must’ve spooked the horses while they were gone, as Impulse’s horse was clearly nervous when they returned. He calmed the horse down with a bit of petting and a treat Pearl had bought for their horses before mounting up and beginning the journey back home.
It was a little past noon when they returned, and they were greeted by Scar and a barely awake Grian. Mumbo was busy working on something, but he soon ran over to say hi and help with the supplies and horses.
The rest of the day went by as normally as it could– it was a calm day for the most part, the only “mishap” being Grian stealing Mumbo’s rocket launcher as revenge for drawing a mustache on him while he slept. They all ate dinner together as they usually did, and after, Impulse left to go to his tent.
Finally alone and in the quiet, Impulse took the book out from his bag, brushing his fingers over the title.
The Art of Summoning - Demons.
He opened the book.
Obviously, a book given out at a library wasn’t about to teach him how to summon a demon– void knows he didn’t want to do that, anyway– but Impulse had always been fascinated by demons. He had been told a lot of stories as a child, which probably was the reason for his interest, but there was also… something else. He had been drawn– pulled to this book, almost. As if by magic, or something.
…some demons can grant their summoner a wish– whether it be super strength, speed, or even flight, there have been records of people making a contract with a demon for their own benefit. When asked why, many of their answers were similar. They wanted to be unique, or special, and had become desperate.
That… sounded familiar. Impulse pressed his lips together in a thin line as he continued to read. He obviously wasn’t desperate enough to summon a demon– he doubted he would even be able to if he wanted to! Which he didn’t. Because that would be crazy.
As he went to turn the page, a sharp pain shot through the tip of his finger. Impulse sucked in air through his teeth as he yanked his hand away, examining the fresh papercut. “Oh, come on…” He shook out his hand, annoyed, before going to flip the page.
As soon as he touched the book, Impulse found that his fingers were almost glued to the page. He couldn’t pull away, couldn’t pull the book off his hand, though he tried frantically to do so. It was then that he noticed a small bead of blood had welled up from the cut, and smeared on the page when he had gone to flip it again.
That… was probably bad.
Just as he was considering calling for help, a soft voice spoke up in his mind. Not soft enough to be inaudible, but not loud enough to be quieted.
Hello.
Impulse tensed up, looking around the tent. “...I didn’t mean to summon you,” he began, “assuming you’re…?”
A demon? The voice was… quite pleasant, actually. Not like anything Impulse had thought a demon would sound like. Yes, I am one. And you haven’t summoned me. Just drawn my attention. I’ve been trapped in this book for quite some time, you see. It’s been a long while since anyone has opened it.
“Why were you trapped inside the book?” Impulse asked, still on edge. “What did you do?”
Well, that’s rude. The demon sounded as if it were pouting, as if Impulse had offended it. I didn’t do anything. I just… It sighed, and its voice took on a tone of loneliness. I was young when I came to this world. I… wanted to be different, I guess, from the rest of the demons. Everyone had this cool thing going for them… one could curse multiple people at once, one could take human form, and everyone else… had something that made them special. I didn’t. I’m just your regular ol’ demon, residing in your thoughts.
Impulse frowned, settling the book carefully on his lap. “So… why did you get put in the book?”
I’m getting to that. I… got excited. I wanted to show everyone that I was special, too, by cursing someone. I didn’t really think things through. The demon paused. I don’t even want to curse someone, anymore. I just want to go home.
“I’m… sorry…” Impulse began, “that sounds really rough.” He sighed, leaning back slightly. “I get it, though, as crazy as that sounds.” He briefly debated on whether or not he should tell someone– a demon, no less– about what he’d been going through. “I’m… the only human in my friend group,” he started, hesitant, “and it’s just… I’ve always been just a guy. Just Impulse. And no matter what I do, I’ll never be able to change that.”
There was a moment of silence, and Impulse could almost feel the demon thinking. Well… maybe you could. Maybe, we could both help each other out.
Impulse’s brow furrowed. “What are you thinking of?”
I know, you were against summoning demons earlier, but… hear me out, okay? I could tell you how to summon me, and not only would that free me from this book, but I could also maybe grant your wish!
The demon sounded… genuinely so excited at the prospect of being freed. Being trapped, all alone, for however long it had been, must’ve been really difficult. Impulse didn’t blame the demon for wanting to be free. He would want the same thing, were he in the demon’s position.
…and maybe, just maybe, a small, selfish part of him spoke up and influenced his reasoning. But Impulse closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and sighed. “Alright. I’ll help you. Tell me how to summon you.”
Excellent choice! Alright, first things first, you’re going to…
Impulse was painfully, bitterly human.
He refused to be just Impulse forever.

every time I think I can be chill about abby, I see a scene like that and omg buck was a baby. so many not cool things happened in s1 (important for the characters backstories but not cool)
Gotta be honest here, aside from how she handled their breakup she didn't do anything wrong?? Like sure, there was a 16y age difference between the two of them but that's less than what's between most actors and their wives (on many on screen couples too) and I'm actually glad that they dared to put a couple with a reverse age gap (compared what's usually 'accepted') straight into season one, but also: they are both consenting adults.
They were both trying to do things right to make the relationship work up until the point Abby's mum died, when she had to realise that she spent years pleasing others and doing things for everyone but herself and she didn't even know who she was at that point.
She was a complex and interesting character and I'm kinda sick of people only seeing her as some cradle robber who hurt Buck's feelings — people date and break up, people make mistakes all the time and we learn and move on, that doesn't just apply to people we like.

I saw that House of the Dragon in their podcast named Alicent's mother as Alerie Florent. Any thoughts on that? The Florents do seem to have bad luck in wars.
I’m still not talking about HotD, but it’s funny you mention this because I meant to make a post about it (and then completely forgot). You can find the interview here and the clip here specifically mentioning the name.
Anyway, the reason I wanted to mention it is not to praise this show but rather to bemoan the fact that a non-canon (to the books) TV show seems more interested in the identity of a female character, no matter how relatively minor, than GRRM himself has with various female characters of ASOIAF. I’m not saying I necessarily expected F&B to identify Alicent Hightower’s mother (although it’s not like I wouldn’t have liked it to), and in the vast annals of awfulness representing F&B’s treatment of female characters, Alicent Hightower’s mother’s lack of presence or even name may seem relatively low on the scale of offensiveness. Yet what bothers me deeply is the startling disregard GRRM has shown more than once in failing to identify female characters, or indeed failing to treat some female characters as more than walking wombs. The reigning yet unnamed Princess of Dorne is an infamous example; “Lady Stark, she died” - that is, Lyarra Stark, the wife of Rickard - is another. (Need I remind anyone that he sarcastically and yet totally inaccurately compared her to Aragorn’s actually named mother?) Quellon Greyjoy gets a detailed biography, but his wives don’t even get first names; Hoster Tully’s wife Minisa and Jon Arryn’s wives Rowena and Jeyne are only identifiable by their dynasties and the manners of their deaths. Nor did F&B go any real way toward solving this problem: Alaric Stark gets plenty of backstory and screentime, but his supposedly beloved Mormont wife doesn’t even have a first name; Rogar Baratheon’s first wife is only mentioned as an anonymous corpse already in the ground; Rodrik Arryn’s nameless first wife dies early enough for creep Rodrik to prey on Daella; Unwin Peake’s nameless adolescent daughter only exists to be raped and die in childbirth.
I don’t mention all this to say GRRM is a terrible writer, or hates female characters. Far from it! It’s precisely because I think GRRM is an extremely good writer, including with respect to female characters, that I find myself so disappointed when he shows such lack of regard in this area. In the 10+ years since GRRM began focusing in-depth on the Dance of the Dragons, there have been two novellas about this civil war, a world book describing in part this civil war, and an entire “related work” history of (the first roughly century and a half of) House Targaryen, with multiple chapters about this civil war expanding upon those novellas - yet it took the showrunner of a TV show adapting the F&B narrative of the Dance to care enough about Alicent’s mother to name her. I don’t know that this show is going so far as to give any personality or character to the dead figure of “Alerie Florent” (and again, I really don’t care about anything this show does), but even the showrunner mentioning that Alicent wants to remember her mother in prayers is more than we readers can say about, for example, Ned Stark’s relationship with his mother, or Catelyn’s with hers. GRRM’s lack of attention to or indeed interest in the identity of yet another female character, over the course of tens of thousands of words he’s written about the Dance era, stands in sharp and frankly unflattering contrast compared to even the passing mention of this figure allowed by the showrunner of a TV series which, by its nature, might have every incentive to be more streamlined about such details.
(Once again, I’m not posting about HotD and I’m not inviting anyone to use this post to talk about HotD, because those conversations are getting blocked by me. This is me using a news story related to HotD to comment on GRRM’s writing.)

Things that ran through my mind while watching this episode: --Ufotable says "jump" and FujiTV says "how high?" Likewise, they say "we want more run time" and FujiTV says "take it, it's yours." It seems odd that an episode in which the battle is already over would require extra run time, but I think a lot of the magic in of the KnY anime adaptation (particularly since Mugen Ressha) is that Ufotable lets the emotional scenes really open up and take the space they need to, uh... breathe.
--That means giving the voice actors lots of space on the emotional scenes to build up realistic crying and give pauses. Daki's crying always hits me hardest, but Gyutaro's narration and the way he talks to the samurai he kills, also excellent. And then you have Inosuke at the very end of the episode being Not Okay. --Suma, you are a treasure
--Backing up a bit, I love how Ufotable also reads being the panels. Like that "you saved me, Nezuko?" sure as help can mean "you eliminated the last of an Upper Moon's attack with her fire?" why not. And it is such Kimetsu Logic to not tell us Nezuko can eliminate demon poison until after she's saved the night, but it also makes perfect sense.
--After all the sting of losing Rengoku, losing Uzui was dangled in front of us, and the fact that we get to keep him makes this victory over an Upper Moon all the more victorious and sweet. Oyakata-sama's moment of feel on emotion at the end of the episode, a very different state than we've ever seen him, really shows how momentous this is too.
--But also, if he had died there, it truly would have been one of the most horrific deaths of the series, because he'd have done so with the very flamboyant knowledge of having missed his chance to say any last words because his wives were being so themselves. And he is just there just feeling numbness take over his tongue, knowing he lost his chance. I love that look on his face as it hits him that this is really how he's stuck going, and the rocks hitting is still peak comedy.
--I mentioned in the last episode just how fast this whole battle was, and I think this provides very interesting insight about Iguro in a couple ways. First, there is the possibility that a crow went seeking Iguro's help the moment it say a Corp member fighting an Upper Moon (Tanjiro fighting Daki, who could still be mistaken for an Upper Moon at the time), but the crow still needed time to get to wherever Iguro was. Iguro probably started running as soon as he heard, but the battle really was over too fast for him to help. The other possibility is that as soon as Uzui told Tanjiro and Inosuke to leave, he reached out to Iguro for help, which would imply both A) humility and B) perhaps aside from proximity, he chose Iguro as the best choice of a Pillar to help him with this mission, whether based on the merits of Snake Breath or his trust in Iguro. Either way, Iguro already knew Tanjiro was involved--perhaps Uzui mentioned it (in which case, Iguro would had thought Tanjiro left as ordered), or the crow specifically told him, "Kamado Tanjiro is going head to head against an Upper Moon," in which case he of course assumed Tanjiro was already dead.
--This is actually a great moment of characterization for Iguro, who sees no personal value in living except to fight demons, as he does not seem himself deserving of love. That gives him no way to understand how Uzui would dare to prioritize a loving married life.
--Of course, the course of this episode is the Shabana sibling back story, and I think it's one of the demon backstories with layers of irony most seamlessly worked into the events of the plot. Besides the Kamado sibling foil, you've got Gyutaro calling Tanjiro names, Daki telling Zenitsu that only the beautiful have power, Daki getting set on fire by Nezuko, Daki offering to pluck out and eat Tanjiro's left eye and having Gyutaro's left eye on her forehead, snow on the night they became demons and snow on the night of the promise they are strongest together, memories of snow while facing the fires of hell, choosing the darkness over the light, Gyutaro starting with a horrid existence by finding Ume's birth changed all that and his outlook totally improved, and just when he thinks things are going to really get better they get horrifically worse, and he changes his tune to saying that never had anything good in the first place and no matter how many times he's reborn he'll always rue those who had things good for them. Ume was the good change in his fortune. That makes it hurt all the more when he yells at her that his life would had been easier without her, and that this rejection continues into the afterlife when he tries to cut ties for her own sake.

It's a Gas | Hosea/Dutch & Arthur
Tags: Young VanDerMatthews and Arthur, father-son bonding and father-father bickering, drabble. Words: 932 A/N: From Kinktober SFW list, tying a tie except not really but IDGAF bc it did blossom from that prompt and I'm 2 fics behind rn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's both surprising and not that they've skirted the issue of getting Arthur a suit for this long.
There aren't many occasions where either of them need one, to Dutch's dismay and Hosea's moderate relief. If he'd known how exhausting getting the boy fitted for one would be, he would've planned on accompanying Dutch to the dinner instead.
Now, he's busy picking at the horse hairs that cling to the seams of his only pair of untorn slacks instead of smacking his hand hard into the gut of the oaf sitting next to him in the fitting room. They've already argued about whether Arthur should get a suit to grow into or not, which Hosea's more reasonable but less well-fitted answer of yes won.
My son and I, Dutch told the railroad owner. There's little choice given by the crow's feet at Hosea's eyes and the clear lack of relation between them. If there were, he would've corralled them all back out the door at the price of the thing, let alone the keen feeling of being a wet rag that eventually comes over him while accompanying these two fools on any trip.
Maybe it's only his imagination, but he thinks that Arthur is growing to look more like Dutch every day. In the cheeks and nose, at least, though Arthur's were granted to him by starvation and a fist fight respectively. On days where he doesn't care to give into affectionate fantasies, he tells himself it's just their dark hair.
Dutch says they have the same eyes; Hosea believes he's trying to force him into a matriarchal role. He won't think about how softly his man says it, nor how softly he feels about the menial truth in it.
Despite the clear sour expression on Arthur's face as the tailor took his measurements and made idle chatter with Hosea and Dutch — completely ignoring the boy, which he seemed to loathe even more than the conversation the man had first struck with him about nonexistent girlfriends and wives — he feels something he cannot name. It is warm and unfamiliar, a little hard to swallow when it climbs in his throat from the boughs of his chest.
Pride, or something even kinder.
Hosea has lorded the fact Arthur looks to him more often over Dutch's head since they began dragging the kid around, those years ago— and here he looks at him now, because the tailor has asked him if they've got a special occasion. Panic is brief on his face.
"Nothing special," Hosea lies easily. "A dinner for Yale alumni. He's old enough to start networking. Right, son?"
Arthur just nods. The tailor looks quite pleased to present his work to such a crowd. Dutch smiles knowingly, because this is one of the oldest backstories they've concocted.
"Yale? Which of you gentlemen?" The tailor asks, clearly glad for polite conversation that isn't about the weather or the scrappy teenager that looks like he wants to bite him.
Good Lord, Hosea realizes. He will need to talk to Arthur about not making that nasty of a face in view of the public.
"Both," he answers. "1865."
"'76," Dutch adds.
Another, impressed nod precedes banal talk of office locations, business relations, and notable gossip — cue the I can't say much due to client confidentiality, but you may have heard of... and then one of the many other false tales they've cooked up over a campfire while half asleep. The tailor now believes that they are their own lawyers, for their own crimes; he is not the first person they've fooled with in this way, but Hosea does take a particular enjoyment out of this fellow's overzealous reactions to gruesome details like a one-hundred dollar paycheck and a severed hand.
Oh, how easy it is to make a life when you've only got to live the most exciting half of it.
The atmosphere begins to change once questions are asked about the suit. Predictably enough, it is never anything besides the heart of a matter that hurts when it comes to cooperating with a man like Dutch.
Mother's eyes, please God, mother's tongue, too, Hosea thinks, and he is sorely misguided in hoping Arthur would make things any easier, given his age.
"He'll be sweltering," Hosea insists when wool is suggested for the fabric, and Dutch scoffs, waves a hand at where Arthur is stood on the tailor's podium awkwardly and without direction.
"When have you ever been comfortable and presentable?" He asks, as if he's got a real hail Mary.
"Quite often." Hosea glares at him, earns one right back. "Linen or cotton, man. Please."
"Linen is too cheap looking," Dutch stabs. Hosea's suits are usually linen, because his blood runs too hot for comfort beneath woolen layers. "Cotton it is."
"Blue cotton?"
"Jesus, no," Dutch says. "Are you insane? Dark grey is much more refined than blue."
"Why does the colors even matter?" Arthur pipes in.
"Say 'why do' not 'why does'," Hosea corrects, barely even realizing he's doing it. He rubs the bridge of his nose with his fingers. "You two are like herding cats."
"Maybe he's just wondering," Dutch says, because apparently nothing can go without a rebuttal now.
Arthur disagrees immediately. "No, I think this is stupid. I don't care what color this thing is."
"Arthur, watch your mouth," he sighs.
"Sorry," Arthur says. "I think it's ridiculous. Is that better?"
The two older men share a look. Christ, is he genuinely asking? Hosea's eyes ask, and Dutch's answer: He looks like he's genuinely asking.
Blissfully, the tailor remains silent.

WHAT DID HE DO TO DESERVE A FATE SUCH AS THIS????
he's only trying to repay those who truly cared about him, even if it's a smidge.
Tumblr media
And then i find out abt bing-ge's backstory and su xiyan
and all ive been doing is crying to the crane wives' never love an anchor — it's so them-core.
so are we gonna ignore the fact that luo binghe is just moses in a bl world?

"Are you looking down on gay protagonists? The arts and artists love portraying gays. Pure literature favors gays— you know that, right?" - Shang Qinghua, Vol 3 of svsss
honestly, he's so real for that, and he detected slight homophobis from ssq.
i will, however, confess to shen qingqiu that my writing philosophy is indeed the gays 🏳️‍🌈

Also another crazy thing about Chase is that I’m pretty sure they implied that his half czech(or would it be Czechoslovakia in this context)? I might just be staring too deep into this but in Cursed, House described his dads accent as “Aussie with about 30 years of czech”. I’m not sure if that means he was born there or if he’s still Australian and just lived there for 30 years instead( but tbh it makes more sense that he was born there considering the episode takes about 10 years after he leaves). I guess the last name doesn’t match but then he could’ve taken his wives name, and as someone who’s slavic I know that back in the day a few of em who went abroad changed their names a bit to fit in better. Idk. It’s just insane that besides the seminary, the alcoholic mother he took care of, the sister he also took care of, being australian, and somehow being specialised in like 3 different fields of medicine before the age of 30(almost NONE of which is elaborated on btw) they decided to kind of throw this in??? What??? What are they doing with this guy??? How many more times will I be hit with random information about him like this??
I love how the writers are just adding random bits to his backstory and just....never mention it again
I think his dad is Czech and left the Czechoslovakia after he finished medschool (and probably his residency too), somewhere between when he was 25-30. Though I have many distant relatives who has left Hungary in the '50s and '60s, so I wasn't that suprised by that lol And it makes more sense that Chase is an englishified version than Rowan taking his wife's name ('cause he doesn't seem like the type)
Chase's age is my favourite thing in canon! In s1, he's said to be 26 (and he's been working for House for like a year pre-canon), but in s2 he's 29. I'm picking his age to be 26 in s1, 'cause it makes everything more hilarious. Chase is actually a child genius, but everyone still treats him like an idiot and crazy. Also yes, like him being an intensivist is actually shown, him being a surgeon too (and i don't remember what his actual position is when he's in that department, but I saw some say he's a resident, but I don't think so, he has to be a fellow with how much freedom he gets and how much surgeries he preforms). Also I know the cardiologist thing is kinda random, but I researched it and it comes from how only cardiologists can do peacemaker surgeries. Also the fact he did a residency in neurosurgery, but didn't take the board certification is insane
I just love all the random things the writers throw at him!

idk if this has been addressed more coherently on here yet but i keep seeing the "bonney is technically a CD" hot takes and they never make any sense to me so. idk what it is with ppl not taking context into account but i want to clarify for my own peace of mind
cw for typical celestial dragon nonsense
the point i've seen the most is "bonney's biological father is a CD therefore she is one as well"
that's not how that works. especially when you take into account how many "wives" a single CD can have at one time. the first look at a CD in the story was a guy who had 10+ wives and very nonchalantly dismissed a handful of them while making plans to take a woman from sabaody to add to his ranks.
when your parents are world nobles, then by birthright you are one as well. but do you really think a CD would consider the child of a slave as anything but a slave? egghead gave us a whole arc of the five elders referring to humans as insects - all of them!! even their own cipher pol agents!! there is no difference to them. why would they consider the offspring of a "human" as one of their own?
also, another point, "bonney is an outlier with her bloodline"
you have to be incredibly dense to think that at this point in the story. bonney is the only human with a world noble parent that has been shown and named in the story, yes, but she is a dime a dozen in the one piece world. what happened to ginny was tragic, but it's supposed to be so sickening bc you as the reader have it click that this is commonplace. they sent ginny away because she was sick, not because she was pregnant. they could have terminated her pregnancy at any time, but why would they? that's another slave.
case in point? kuma. not long after kuma was born, a spy in the hospital told the WG about his bloodline. kuma was enslaved as an infant instead of being killed and his father, the older and stronger person who would be more suited to perform work as a slave, was taken along with his newborn child. that's reality. they knew kuma would grow up and be useful as a slave.
that very well could have been bonney's reality as well. ginny was enslaved because of her beauty. all they had to do was bide their time and wait for ginny's baby to grow up.
kuma's backstory as a whole really made me question just how many slaves are born in captivity. it's chilling to think about. the thought never crossed my mind before egghead. wano scratched the surface with slave labor but kept it to men who could work (or also, i think it was only men who revolted in some way, so citizens that kept quiet were left alone). the children born in wano grew up in extreme poverty, but it's different from being born a slave to a master that considers you subhuman.
tldr; bonney isn't a world noble of any kind because she has human blood running through her veins.

Ranking my favorite to least favorite hashira
I just finished the Swordsmith village arc, Hulu please I want the next one TwT
Tumblr media
1 . Muichiro Tokito! This guy is just so fun, and his flashbacks made me cry. I love how there's just a random 14 year old in the group, who happens to insult demons until they die. After he remembered things, Gyokko had zero shot.
Tumblr media
2 . Mitsuri Kanroji! I will personally fight anyone who doesn't like her just because the creators decided to sexualize her character. She is powerful, strong, beautiful, and amazing. Probably would be my favorite if Muichiro wasn't so funny to me. She's just the best (You can do better than Iguro girl anyone who says otherwise can die by your blade)
Tumblr media
3. Sanemi Shinazugawa! This guy is such a terrible person and I love it. Please blink more. Please accept your little brother. Please keep making fun of Giyu and being a complete ass. He needs to throw hands more, I'd like to see him and Inosuke fist fight.
Tumblr media
4. Giyu Tomioka! This guy is great. I like how he seems so cool in front of Tanjiro but in reality he's just a sad wet cat. I hope we get to see him more, probably in the new Hashira training arc. No spoilers please. He just seems so interesting, I wanna know why everyone else in the hashira seem to dislike him so much.
Tumblr media
5. Kyojuro Rengoku! This guy was fun. I'm sad he died so quickly, we didn't get to experience a lot of him. I'm very curious, because Akaza was open and "friendly" with him, but in the swordsmith village arc Akaza was guarded and being violent and snappy. It makes Rengoku feel way more special in my eyes.
Tumblr media
6. Tengen Uzui! This man is so stupid and I hate him. He's an interesting character, and I like him in theory, just not in practice. The only reason he's higher is because he actually has something I find interesting. I'm very confused on the three wives thing. I think it's extremely funny when people write or draw him simping for Rengoku because I do get bisexual disaster from him.
Tumblr media
7. Obanai Iguro! "But I'm a creep... I'm a weirdo..." this guy is creepy and I don't like him. Get him away from Mitsuri. I know his backstory is tragic, but I don't care! Especially since in the demon slayer academy he's portrayed as "allergic to women". He just gives me creepy guy who lives in his moms basement. Discord mod vibes. Weirdo.
Tumblr media
8. Shinobu Kocho! Shinobu is another one where there's definitely more to her, but until we figure that out, she just seems rather blank to me. It's definitely on purpose, because she's supposed to have her big reveal when fighting a demon, and we know a little from Kanao she used to have an older sister. I'm just frustrated because it seems like she has nothing else. The most interesting thing about her is the rest of the girls at the Butterfly Mansion.
Tumblr media
9. Gyomei Himejima! He's another one where there's more to him, I just haven't seen it. But I don't really like what I do see? Like, he pitied Tanjiro and Nezuko, but was willing to kill them. If he's trying to be portrayed as a sympathetic man, it's not working. Also he just looks like a geodude from Pokémon to me, except with a worse color pallet.

Sooooo i've been meaning to ask you this for the longest time, but... Whatever happened to Eve (or even her/Adam's children) in your AUs?
I think i saw *one* comic of yours in wish she interacts briefly with *both* Adam and Lucifer, so... What's your personal "take" or even headcanons of their whereabouts?
Oooh anon, allow me to go very off-topic for a bit. I'll get to your question.
The adamsapple community, and more specifically the Adam simps, they all seem to impose this kind of... expectancy? for artists and writers to have some defined set of lore regarding Lilith, Eve, Cain, Abel and even Michael too. Don't get me wrong!! I love these characters and I do like seeing what different people make of them! It's just that the way you're asking this question reminds me of that, taking for granted that if you're into Adam/adamsapple, that means you probably have a bunch of intricate backstories for his ex-wives and children.
And I know this is might be a bit disappointing, but I don't actually have that LOL. I don't actually consider myself to be very good at coming up with characters. I have like 5 OCs (total) and that might honestly be a bit generous. In the case of Eve and co., where their characters already have some ground work done (either by the Bible or by the fandom), I have a couple ideas about them, but I'm not actually married to any of them and you'll see me switch back and forth between them for various purposes.
The comic you're talking about was made specifically for the Jealousy prompt of the adamsapple week lolol, therefore, the Eve depicted on that comic was only meant to cause jealousy for that one gag comic. Eve doesn't really exist in my """AU's""" (I don't actually have any AUs besides Prison AU) in any relevant manner. She's probably better described as a plot device or even a character motivation. I like when Eve is depicted as a sweet woman, I like when Eve is depicted as batshit crazy. I'm not set on any one option and I will take and leave them if it serves a purpose for a story or if it's for a funny gag lolol
That being said!! That specific Eve design that I did was made specially for @goshdanghowdy, who requested a sinner!Eve. All I know about this particular Eve is that she died a winner, but then decided to leave Heaven and become a sinner to watch over her children in Hell. I based my design around nature and snakes and the sole characteristic that she's a good mother. But overall, that version of Eve is more goshdanghowdy's than it is mine :)
And just to clarify, I'm not upset or anything that you asked this question, like I said, I just think that this community has developed this expectation that everyone has their own versions of these characters, and I'm just not really one of those. I'm not opposed to ever developing them, though! It's more like, I'll make them when I need them lol
TL; DR: I don't have any set headcanons or takes on Eve, my depiction of her is not set in stone and will vary

Thoughts on rarijackdash, startrixburst, and chrysarmordance? For me, these are personally my favorite mlp ot3s
I personally hc that Rainbow Dash actually does enjoy dressing up(a la g3 Rainbow Dash, but only occasionally), so other than modeling(cuz she doesn't like sitting still) she actually enjoys Rarity's work(besides, both AJ and RD are like the heroes in Rarity's tropey adventure romance books, with one being strong and brave, and the other being swift and cunning), and there's just something about Rainbow and Applejack's constant competitiveness
I could NEVER break up startrix, and for starburst I really enjoy the childhood friends dynamic. I've actually consumed more mlp fan content than the actual show or comics, so I don't know much about Trixie and Sunburst's dynamic, so they might be better as queer-platonic, but I do enjoy the hc of them both being trans(Trixie being transfem and Sunburst being transmasc)
I think it would be sweet if two beings of love were wives, but it would funny if they were also the wives of Just Some Guy(TM)
Ohhh very very interesting, okay lemme give my thoughts cause this is a good ask
rarijackdash - This one is pretty funny, because i see exactly what you find appealing about it, its like a love triangle that ends in a polycule n stuff. Rarity keeping the competition going because she likes both of them and loves them fighting for her affection is very cute; but i have never even concidered this one, because there is no world in my mind in which between AJ and RD competing for someone's romantic affections (specialy rarity) that applejack wouldn't win by a landslide everytime, lmao. I'm sorry to rainbow dash fans but the girl is tragicaly self centered and nigh charmless; but i definitely see the potential on what you mean! (also ive recently discovered that Rainbow had closer to rarity's personality on g3 which is very fun) Though hey, i see the potential you mean! its a cute trio. (rarijack has made me mentally ill though i love it too much. 20 pages in to writing a shrek1 but its rarijack fic and i'm not stopping) Okay now the case with startrixburst is an peculiar one, because although sunburst is def one of the best male characters in the show, thats also an incredibly low bar, so i never really thought of it; i do find it funny for a failpolycule of unicorns centered around the biggest failgirl of all time, starlight tho. Worth stating i never paid much mind to the childhood friends backstory because it pissed me off that starlights backstory is "i was traumatized bc i was inconvenienced as a kid and now i'll make it everyones problem" its hard to salvage a character after such a weak ass backstory. But hey, it does seem to come naturaly to make this polycule trio, i aint got nothin against it! (lord knows the startrix dynamic is impecable though) Okay in the case of chrysarmordance, this might be my favorite of all three because like. i thought of how bland shining and cadance's relationship was on the show, then i thought of how simple Cadance and chrysalis would be, but if you stick her boy in the middle; suddenly something really fucking funny happens. Whether its two beings of love arguing over 1 white boy, or if its Shining getting cucked by a bug monster, the entire thing becomes fucking hilarious, with such a potential for hilarious jokes. Alright imma do something i normaly wouldnt do and show some disjointed notes of a multiverse story i'm writing because it's pertinent to this ship and also fucking hilarious.
