they won't tell you this in therapy but sometimes the best way to stop catastrophizing/anxiety is to interrupt your spiraling with "girl what the hell are you talking about"

"Many Women Find Getting an IUD Traumatic. Painkillers Won’t Fix That."
For NYT Opinion , about how doctors dismissing patient pain during IUD insertion would lead to shame and distrust of the patients.
Many thanks to AD Sam Whitney for the trust and directions

After the 2024 election, I hope Americans will realize it’s not pro-abortion vs pro-life. It’s pro women’s rights vs pro-birth. They don’t even care about life of the children nor the women after birth - even my very republican family member acknowledges this. This should not be a political decision, it’s a medical discussion. Doctors see thousands of women come in with life threatening complications and babies with serious, debilitating birth defects - and they’ll all be forced into a world of pain, and thrown into the depressing system that is American foster care. 60 sexual assault victims will be forced to give birth every day. Child victims too, are now forced to give birth. Recently, a parentless child in Florida was denied an abortion because she was not “mature enough” to do so. Yet she is mature enough to give birth and raise a child? Even if Trump voters don’t care about this and these victims don’t matter to them & they’re natalists anyway - they will be forced to carry unviable fetuses, forced to carry despite lethal infections, forced to die due to the endless complications that come with pregnancy and birth. Reps refusing the facts say “that will never happen, they wouldn’t let women die!” while the rate of maternal deaths in Texas increased 56% in recent years, compared with just 11% nationwide during the same time period. A 28 year old woman in Georgia was denied a life-saving abortion and died - It’s happening, it could absolutely happen to you, your friends, your family. This is only just the beginning of women’s rights being stripped away.

Throwback to a time when I used to reach for food to deal with stress—using it as comfort when things felt overwhelming. I was carrying an extra 60 lbs and didn’t realize how much my habits were weighing me down, physically and emotionally.
Fast forward to today, and now the gym is my go-to stress release. Now, in the middle of perimenopause, I’ve found that hitting the gym and fueling my body with the right nutrition are more important than ever. Moving my body, pushing through those tough workouts, and focusing on my strength has transformed my life.
But it’s not just about the workouts—fueling my body with the right nutrition gives me the energy to show up for myself, my family, and my clients every day, both in the gym and in life.
We all have our challenges—this is how I’m navigating mine. How are you showing up for you? 💪🏽🥗

Getting pregnant is a curse from having sex
Having your period is a curse from not getting pregnant
Being a woman is painful
Why would anyone ever want this

If IUDs are revolutionary, does that mean the yoke of side effects is equivalent to the vivisection experience of having them inserted and removed over and over again? A visceral contract of hormonal fluctuations and pain for the sake of it not being your baby?

Some Warnings For Birth Control
I just recently started birth control and I’ve been doing a lot of research on it so that I can keep track of my symptoms and what not. I had extremely painful periods and needed the birth control or else I’d be throwing up, shaky, and all sorts of other bad things.
Anyways, I started looking into depression prevention methods for myself. I’ve had depression many times before and I know birth control can cause it, so I’m taking preemptive measures. While I was looking at the article I read, I found out that not only is birth control an inflammatory, but it causes vitamin depletions.
These nutrient depletions could be an underlying cause to so many peoples’ depression when they take birth control. I’m angry that this isn’t in the normal list of symptoms and that I have to specifically look for it. I searched it up after I saw it in the article and it’s completely true! I’m pissed that this has to be specifically searched up when it should be listed in the symptom list. People knowing about this could not only make them healthier, in terms of vitamins and nutrients, but make them healthier mentally, even if they’re not taking birth control.
The vitamins, acids, and minerals that are typically depleted are vitamin E; vitamin C; Vitamin B2, B6, and B12; magnesium; folic acids; zinc; the amino acid tyrosine; and selenium. I went and gathered a list of foods that would help keep these vitamins, minerals, and acid levels mostly normal (but I would recommend supplements if you can’t have any of these). I recommend doing your own research and figuring out what is best for you; I’m not a doctor and I’m certainly not a dietitian.
Vitamin B2: Almonds, whole oats, whole grain barley, quinoa, wild rice, soybeans, beef, salmon, pork, spinach, avocado, eggs, collard greens, romaine lettuce, milk, legumes, chicken, turkey.
Vitamin B6: Chickpeas, beef, turkey, brown rice, potatoes, chestnuts, salmon, poultry, milk, carrots, spinach, green peas, bananas, avocado.
Vitamin B12: Salmon, Yogurt, eggs, nutritional yeast, cheese, pork, milk, beef, chicken, turkey.
Vitamin C: Oranges, lemon, brussel sprouts, mango, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, cauliflower, tomatoes, cantaloupe, broccoli, strawberries, mustard greens, pineapple.
Vitamin E: Almonds, broccoli, hazelnut, asparagus, pumpkin, mango, peanut butter, spinach, pine nuts, mustard greens, tomatoes.
Magnesium: Almonds, pecans, spinach, black beans, avocado, cashews, pumpkin seed, chia seed, potatoes, leafy greens, brown rice, peanuts, yogurt, salmon, dark chocolate, tofu, bananas, legumes.
Zinc: Beef, pork, chicken, pine nuts, peanuts, cashews, almonds, legumes, seeds, dairy products, oats, black beans.
Selenium: Pork, beef, chicken, eggs, Brazil nuts, salmon, grains, turkey, brown rice, sunflower seeds, lentils, baked beans, oatmeal, spinach, milk, yogurt, pistachios, bananas.
Folic Acids: Broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, kale, spring greens, spinach, peas, chickpeas, kidney beans, legumes, asparagus, eggs, beets, citrus fruits, bananas.
Tyrosine: soy products, chicken, turkey, fish, peanuts, almonds, avocados, bananas, milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, lima beans, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds.
You can take prenatal supplements that will give you a good dosage of all of these! There are supplements for people who need them and we need to be aware of what the doctors aren’t telling us. People who take birth control are more likely to become depressed or suicidal, even more so in teens, so this needs to be known. I don’t care if it stops 1 or a 1000 cases of depression/suicide because even if it helps prevent 1, just 1, then EVERYONE needs to know. This could save someone, even if it doesn’t seem like a lot or doesn’t seem that serious.
What each vitamin, mineral, acid does for your body:
Vitamin B2: important for the growth, development, and function of the cells in your body, energy production, and metabolism of fats, drugs, and steroids
Vitamin B6: important for normal brain development and for keeping the nervous system and immune system healthy
Vitamin B12: helps keep blood and nerve cells healthy. It's also essential for DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, and converting food into energy
Vitamin C: needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of your body. It is used to: Form an important protein called collagen, used to make skin, tendons, ligaments, and blood vessels
Vitamin E: vital for vision, reproduction, and the health of the brain, blood, and skin
Magnesium: better sleep, increased energy levels and improved mood, helps the heart maintain a healthy rhythm and is involved in the regulation of blood pressure and cholesterol production
Zinc: helps your immune system and metabolism function, important to wound healing and your sense of taste and smell
Selenium: reduction in cancer risk, cardiovascular, Alzheimer's disease, thyroid disease, and beneficial effects on reproductive health and fertility
Folic Acids: helps your body make new cells, reduces your risk for heart disease, stroke and some types of cancers
Tyrosine: essential component for the production of several important brain chemicals called neurotransmitters, including epinephrine, norepinephrine, and dopamine. Neurotransmitters help nerve cells communicate and influence mood. Tyrosine also helps produce melanin, the pigment responsible for hair and skin color
^This is just a basic list and does not include everything that these vitamins do. Remember to always do your own research, I may not have had everything right!

Another Update II
Hello!
Trigger Warning for periods, menstruation, and other related issues. I'll explain my situation in more detail.
It all started around April when I had a longer period than usual. It was light, with mild cramps, but lasted for about a month. My period would suddenly stop for a few hours, only for it to continue like I was on another period.
By the end of it, I had blood clots constantly. Worried, I went to an obgyn and she advised a transabdominal along with a temporary medication to stop the bleeding. She also strongly encouraged me to get a pap smear since I never had one before (nor engaged in sexual activity which will be important for later).
After some blood testing and transabdominal, I was diagnosed with PCOS. She recommended either the medication, losing weight, or starting birth control. Since then, I've been trying to lose weight and am still on the fence about taking birth control.
Just feels like I'm stalling at this point. I haven't had my period since and am afraid of what would happen if I did. I'm not sure if losing weight or eating healthy is going to help and I just need to keep taking birth control for who knows how long. I guess that's why I'm so on the fence: I don't want to take medication for a long period and would rather try changing my diet right now.
Other than the period issues, PCOS has been hard to manage. For the most part, fatigue is my most notable symptom, but sometimes I can feel irritable or have mood swings. I've been managing with meditation, listening to music, and relaxing when I need to along with doing tasks when I have the energy (ie cooking, laundry, etc.).
However, that's not my only problem. I've mentioned this in another post, but my mental health has not been great. Remember when I mentioned how I never had sexual activity? Well, when my mother asked me about my doctor visits, she also asked if I had sexual activity. I said no, and she told me how getting a pap smear would really hurt, how I would "lose my virginity" and demanded I tell my doctor no to the pap smear.
As you can tell, I have a great support system!
Sarcasm aside, my mom isn't religious. She likely had her own misbeliefs about getting a pap smear, but it doesn't change how messed up this all was. Her mother, my grandmother, passed away from cancer. A pap smear would tell me I don't have that or any other conditions, but my mom was like "No, you're v card is more important! I know better than your doctor!"
Despite me telling her "That's not how virginity works", she doubled down and reiterated her point. It's not the first time she didn't listen to me and doubted the knowledge of a professional, but she was my mom and I thought I needed at least one parent for guidance. Truth is, I'm a grown woman and I don't need that, at least, not from her or any parent like that.
I deserve better, so much better. I deserve parents who put my health and happiness above some silly little v card (plus my mom never cared about that until now). The whole thing made me wonder why I was even here. Let me make it clear: I am not a danger to myself, but after realizing both of my parents kinda suck and don't really care about me, I just wondered why I was even born. What's the point of being here if I can't go to my own parents for advice and trust them? What's the point if I can't be honest with even my own parents without being yelled at or judged?
Anyway, thank you for reading. I just needed someone to talk about this. I do have my sister and friends, but they have their own issues to deal with and I don't want to bother them, especially my sister.
