All the benefits and nice stuff would only happen under 2 circumstances.

1) It's been years since Damian was discovered/taken in by Bruce. He mellowed out after Dick and Bruce taught him that killing wasn't necessary and it wasn't allowed. (But all bets are off with the clown comes into the picture. Both Jason and Damian are ready to spill blood)

2) When Tim returns with Bruce after the whole time shenanigans, Damian is more interested in one upping Tim than killing him, since that doesn't get him any favors.

Because, let's be honest, the League of Assassins, like many old families, have a big sibling rivalry thing. The eldest gets the highest position: being the true heir, while the ones after are potential replacements or extras.

So Damian would probably be gunning for Tim even more than before, really. Especially if Bruce suddenly feels like doting on Tim more just to make up for lost time. It was Janet and Jack's responsibility before, but he was actually the father and was right there, it should've been his responsibility. He should've known. Why is Janet so sneaky-

It's a whole thing. But yeah, Damian would only really be like that if he mellowed out a bit by then.

Funnily enough, Tim might've been able to hide it. He would've told Bruce and Alfred his blood type, they'd have no need to check. I don't know if Tim's dealt with clone issues, but if not, there's no need for that identification. Tim mightve already put in his DNA match in some contingency files and Bruce only briefly glanced at it, but it's not the relavent compared to the other cases he has to look into. Alfred could take care of the medical requirements, which is what DNA falls into... probably.

DNA tests are different from blood tests, so thats my main reasoning.

Alfred definitely knows at some point. He's Alfred. He probably knew from the first meeting.

Maybe Barbara, though I doubt it for 1 reason: she's not actively looking into Tim's DNA files. I could see her being next to know.

But I could also see Cass or Steph being the ones to find out. Those fun DNA tests online? I bet Steph would've taken everyone's sample to see how it goes or just convinced Tim somehow. It's just a game right?

Cass would've had suspicions from the start. Never spoke up and it wasn't like it really mattered by then. He wasn't going to get away from the family alive, and with all the magic and supernatural stuff that goes on, he wouldn't be able to in death either. The Lazarus pits were already used on like- half of the family at that point. What's one more?

Thinking about Jim, do you think he also gets this good cop good father protection because of Barbara Gordon's admiration of him? Reading it from Barbara's perspective like all her stories have Jim Gordon as the best dad and her wanting to be a cop or as a child being the gcpd little cheerleader. Like trying to tie that with her role as Oracle but then even thinking of like The Hill where Jim shot and killed a teenager and his response to the mother was that the kid was armed like... it is hard to think that she would have that blind admiration of him. I also think she is more willing to work with morally questionable characters since she has a history of working with those types of characters. What do you think DC needs to do with Barbara Gordon to get actual interest in her again?

the solution for babs is simple — she needs to be oracle again.

no ifs whens or buts — babs being batgirl again is such a spectacular downgrade from her time as oracle it’s almost unreal. babs as a character, her growth after being shot, her rediscovery and pursuit of her own autonomy, her vindictiveness, her need for control, her relationships with the birds and wendy and cass and steph, make her an infinitely richer and more interesting character than when she wears the cowl. that’s even ignoring the ableist rhetoric behind her “reclaiming” her power by getting an implant and leaving her chair, which like, vom, because it’s a whole other can of worms.

unlike batwoman where there’s a completely different identity and mantle that’s seperate from bruce, batgirl is unequivocally the subordinate to batman. the girl denotes her lack of authority. cass and helena come the closest to shaking this off, but it’s still a very deliberate character dynamic that dc upholds. batgirl 2009 also successfully orients the mantle around babs and steph, but a large part of that is that bruce isn’t present in the story.

babs was at least two years older than dick in the original canon. she was a librarian who had a life outside of the community. she was a support for other disabled women. she’d tell bruce to shut the fuck up to his face. she was singularly the most important resource to the league and all other hero teams. she was a complicated person with a lot of trauma, not the cool girlfriend archetype. i also dislike that she’s dating dick while he’s nightwing and she’s still batgirl. imagine if they made dick robin again and had him date babs as oracle. it’d be so weird!

wrt jim gordon— a lot of babs’s unequivocal support of him comes from dc’s general inability to admit that he’s a deeply flawed human being in a position of power. the narrative rarely actually criticises him over his decisions. however, i also think people forget that like…. a lot of babs’s politics is tied up with the police. she’s essentially a one woman surveillance state, and she historically struggles with boundaries around the people she loves. she does work with people that the other bats wouldn’t — isley, waller, etc, but i don’t think that necessarily separates her from the police because often the police or armed forces do the same thing. her modus operandi is also very similar to bruce in a lot of ways too.

in saying that tho, i do appreciate that she’s willing to just say fuck it, full throttle and getting a god damned law degree to bust bruce out of a murder charge. she’s an icon. let her be cunty again!!

i cannot answer anon questions on the dl, so answer on the up-high, which she deserves:

HUNTRESS

a.k.a. Helena Bertinelli, a.k.a. Gotham's coolest and most notable antihero, crossbow-wielder, and purple bat-associated vigilante.

Helena was born to an Italian mob family, but spent her childhood blissfully unaware of the family business--until her entire family was slaughtered in front of her when she was eight. She stayed with family overseas for the rest of her childhood, learning how to fight and protect herself.

She came back to Gotham for both vengeance and justice, and became one of Gotham's many vigilantes. Though her focus is on the mob, she'll step in to stop any crime.

She's also a schoolteacher! Good for her.

She is discerning in who she chooses to kill, but she does kill. As you can imagine, this put her at odds with Batman for a long time. Helena is pretty much the premiere example of Bruce trying to claim control over every vigilante in Gotham, no matter how little right he has. The argument on killing/ethics is valid, but his default was basically "do exactly what I say and fall in line under my command, or stop completely," which is why he's an asshole control freak and why I'm constantly mad about how she was treated 👍

She was an absolute mainstay of the Batfamily before Flashpoint (2011) and it is personally hurtful to me that people don't know her. (Like, to be frank? She had far more of a presence than Damian or (living) Jason in the post-crisis era.)

You could count on seeing her in any major Batfamily crossover, from Cataclysm to Battle for the Cowl.

She was central to the biggest Batfamily crossover ever, No Man's Land, where Gotham was locked off from the rest of the country and turned into a lawless wasteland. Bruce left to sulk for the first couple of months and in absence of any other vigilantes in the field (only Oracle having remained in the city), Helena donned the mantle of the Bat for herself to protect the city. And when Batman came back, in return for all she'd done, she got...yelled at, assigned impossible tasks and criticized for not achieving them, her costume stolen and given to someone else, lied to, abandoned in the face of impossible odds, and shot multiple times protecting kids. Absolute fucking hero, honestly.

She also was on the Justice League for a while, though admittedly I have barely touched that run. To my understanding, despite nominating her for the position, Bruce was also the one to revoke her membership there.

Fortunately! things improved!!

In the early/mid 2000s, Helena joined the Birds of Prey, Oracle's team, and found legit friendships and support there with teammates like Dinah Lance/Black Canary. She finally got more respect in the community, and had a much better time.

Additional relationships include:

A big sister/annoying little brother type thing with Tim, who may disapprove of her killing but simply likes making friends too much :)

A great relationship with Vic Sage/the Question

One single issue where she met Steph that presented SUCH interesting potential that I desperately wish had been followed up on

On and off romantic/sexual tension with Dick, depending on the writer, which culminated in a single hook up that apparently most people around here would rather pretend didn't happen, though I really don't think it's that bad

A complicated relationship with Barbara, partially due to clashing personalities and conflicting morals (with Babs being nearly as much of a control freak as Bruce), and partially due to a shared history with Dick because DC loves making women be catty

Surely others from her first solo or time on the JLA that I don't know well enough to list!

She's rad and determined and takes no shit but cares a lot, and I love her. We deserve more stories tying her teaching day job into her night work. We also deserve more stories with her in general.

If you would like additional Helena beyond just cruising my tag, I recommend:

Batman/Huntress: Cry for Blood - far more Huntress than Batman, this is a great 6-issue miniseries about Helena reckoning with her past, ft the Question.

Batman: No Man's Land - if you have the time for it, a big storyline but worth it.

Birds of Prey vol 1 (1999) - Helena starts to appear around issue #57 and becomes a central character from there.

• Who, in full conscience and access to information, would choose to live in Gotham City? Well, you did. There were many reasons for you to not leave your old life behind and move to Gotham (the majority of them involving violence and death), but you also had so many reasons to forget about all that and at least try.

• You have a reputation in the journalistic world, and the Gotham Broadcasting Company has expresed interest in having you as announcer and columnist. And it turns out that Gotham is spending a lot of money into convincing people with degrees to stay there. Is not like you would be rich or anything near that, but it would be easier than in your hometown.

• Also, its not like the place you lived before was that good. You found a really great job that actually pays well, a great apartment that costs quite the same as your old one, and maybe there you could do something good. Thats why you chose this job: to spread knowlegde is to change peoples lifes. And in a city with such a bad political environment, anyone with good intentions will make a difference.

• Like Batman. Not that you think of yourself as someone as great as Batman, but you can't help yourself from daydreaming. Batman is there, making more good things than half of the elected politicians, and for what? He is not gaining money, or fame, or status. No one knows who he is. He is just helping because he can.

• Would he agree to be interviewed if you was a hostage in a bank robbery? A bank robbery happens at least once a week, so maybe...

• What you didn't expect was that, well, it would work. Not that you really was a hostage just to get a interview with Batman, you were just trying to solve a problem with your bank manager and then one person screamed to everyone to lay on the floor and one thing lead to another and suddenly you were a hostage.

• The only thing everyone need to do was to lay down in silence but what did a women just did? Yes, she runaway. While crying. Really loud. Obviously it wouldn't work, but it did start a clutter. You felt one of the thieves lifting you by your hair and demanding to everyone to shut up or they would start killing people.

• And then Batman came in. And he was... wow. He jumped into the bank by a windown, crushing a thief and fighting with two others near. The man holding you started to walk backwards, yelling something to his gang. They did fought back but who would win against Batman? When remained just the man holding you and Batman, he did threatened to kill you. But with just one move Batman threw his bat shapped blade and the thief fell back, already unconscious.

• You would have fallen to the ground if it wasn't for him. You may be dead if it wasnt for him. Batman was more than just a guy with a mask. He was a hero. Your hero. And when he asked you, with that rough and deep voice that chills you to the bones, if you were hurt... of course you said the only thing that no one with a good mental health would say.

• "Are you interested in giving an interview to Gotham Broadcasting Company?"

• Bruce Wayne is prepared to everything and everyone. He is ready to defeat any hero or villain. He knows how to use all kinds of weapons, and how to transform anything into a weapon. Bruce knows all types of combat styles, is polyglot and is can manage his family enterprises. And yet, that took him by surprise.

• Batman didn't answer you, not with words at least. Because that night, trying to sleep but failing miserably, you could still hear his laugh. And it was enough. At least by now.

• If only you could imagine that, at same time you were hearing his surprised laugh on your bedroom filled with moving boxes, Bruce Wayne was thinking about giving an interview to Gotham Broadcasting Company.

Batfam Fancast Part 13: The Al Ghuls

Oh baby my first request! @callmekohaii asked and they shall recieve.

The eternal Al Ghuls. Ra's,Talia,Dusan,Nyssa and Damian. For centuries this family has affected the world in more ways then we will ever know. Integral to the League of Assassins this family are known to be pompous and pretentious aristocrats. So who will be these immortal individuals?

Before we go any further we do have a major conflict to resolve. That problem is the ethnicity of the family. When potrayed before they had rather problematic castings, however the very concept of these characters are problematic in of themselves. Being Middle Eastern aristocratic type people that create conflict based on personal extremist ideals. Similar to the Drake family I have to be careful with how I elaborate and edit on these characters stories and must be thoughtful with how I want to portray these characters without stepping on anyone's toes.

I also have to remember to cast people that aren't completely Americanized, unlike most of the Batfamily who are all east coast American besides Alfred. Actors who are of Middle Eastern or Asian descent seem to be my best bet and have some actors be mixed as well.

Ra's Al Ghul

The leader of the League of Assassins, the Demon's Head, Grandpappy Stabby Stab. The figurehead of the family, Ra's Al Ghul is a legendary DC character, a well-known Batman villain that can keep up with the likes of Batman. Obsessed with destroying the world to remake in his own image he will do anything and everything for his goals, but still hold himself to degree of honor. However he is hypocritical holding onto old ideals that won't have him accept more liberal ideas. He still respects people of similar status though. Even seeing the like Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake as potential successors. Yet still forgoes someone like his Son or Daughters as successors no matter their enthusiasm for it.

There is only one actor that can covers all the things needed for this character and has been with him for over a decade. Oded Fehr has been voicing Ra's Al Ghul for Young Justice since 2011. He is 52 years old, has experience with action thanks to the Mummy movies and is Israeli. He is by far the best choice for this mastermind.

Nyssa Raatko

Nyssa Raatko also known as Nyssa al Ghul is the oldest known daughter of Ra's and half-sister to Talia. She was born early 18th and disassociates herself from her father sometime in the early 20th century. She has lived through WW2, her family she had were victims of the Nazis concentration camps. Even when she begged for help her father did nothing leaving her there. This left her spiteful and out for revenge.

Unlike canon a major change I'm going to make is the WW2 backstory, instead of a Nazi Concentration Camp, It's a Japanese prison in the Philippines. They tried to escape to the Philippines till the war spread there, her husband and sons dying after the "Bataan Death March" and Nyssa becoming one of the many women who are victims of the Japanese, becoming a Comfort Woman. Her evolution post WW2 however is to have her path of vengeance though violence changed into kindness... with violence. Using the generations of wealth she had acquired she becomes an icon of peace to the public, helping third world countries develop, using her sect of League Assassins to kill whoever stops her development, no matter their morals or even compassionate actions. She accidently becomes the very thing she wished to not associate with.

For Nyssa I need an actress who is most likely more mixed compared to Ra's, living in Southeast Asia. She doesn't have to be white and has to be active enough to do some to little fighting.

Elodie Yung is the only actress I thought of. She's the only half asian actress with martial arts training and enough experience in both action and acting. You might remember her as Elektra in Daredevil and as the main character in The Cleaning Lady.

Dusan Al Ghul

The tragic Dusan Al Ghul son of Ra's Al Ghul. A disappointment to his father's eyes he would do anything for his respect, even rising through the ranks under the guise of the White Ghost. He also albino for some reason. I think instead of him being Albino I want to emphasize him being an unintended child. Using those old ideals the Al Ghul's follow he is a bastard in his eyes, it's not just Ra's Al Ghul but the whole family that shuns him.Think Jon Snow or Gendry from Game of Thrones. Decades of longing lead to Dusan's obsessive drive for his family's love.

Joe Taslim has been nothing but delight finding international stardom thanks to The Raid:Redemption and later the HBO/Cinemax show Warrior. Staring in one of the best contemporary action films and martial arts drama, he is perfect to play this bastard son.

Talia Al Ghul

Daughter of the Demon and Mother to Damian, she is a main stay when it come to the Al Ghuls, a master manipulator like her father she later commanded the organization known as Leviathan. From villain to ally, then back to villain it's hard to say where her true loyalty will stand. She sees her methods as absolute and only the most stubborn of personalities could ever change her mind. Not even her own son persuade her, even willing to kill her own son for her own ambitions.

Many of the castings are rather difficult, yet this was a rather easy character to make. Known for her work in the show The Boys and as the character Farah Karim in Call of Duty Claudia Doumit is a Austrailian actress of Lebenese descent. Her prolific filmography has shown she is more than capable of playing this popular anti villain.

Damian Wayne

The newest Robin and biological son of Batman Damian Wayne is DC current wannabe shonen protaganist. He's a great character when writers remember that League of Assassin training means nothing when you fight beside the people who beat them constantly.

Brutal, short-tempered, and looking to be accepted, his assassin upbringing has left many holes in his ability to socialize in modern society. Unable to relate to anybody besides the more upscale aristocratic part of the world. He wishes to grow up so fast only to forget that growing up is part of the process. A major change I want to address is his upbringing, I want to emphasize the brutally conservative nature of the League of Assassins and the cycle of abuse his family continues to use. By embracing his father's side of the family he learns to forge his own identity and unlike many writers right now, learns that he does not want to be Batman and luckily has Brothers willing to carry that weight for him.

Another major character dynamic I want to switch is between Tim Drake and Dick Grayson. I want the antagonistic nature between him and Tim to go from rivals to family, with Tim filling in as the Big Brother role. Dick being the oldest needs to fill the mentor role, especially since he is the Batman to his Robin. By Dick having the more begrudging frenemy nature allows for them to grow as master and student. Think of Damian as Ahsoka Tano with Tim and Dick as Anakin and Obi-Wan during the Clone Wars. Damian grows on you as a character while the other two are more established and likable.You can even fit Drake and Josh on here with Damian as Megan.

Boy have I seen some terrible fancast for this boi. Like I hate all of them, why you casting 20 something you heathens? IMDB, Google, the damn Disney Channel. Can you not find 1 non white child actor? Gordon Cormier is a 13 year old Filipino Canadian actor who is going to play Aang in the Avatar The Last Airbender live action adaption. He is the only actor who can fit all the criteria that I have put for this character. I have scoured the globe and no one in his age bracket will work besides him. If this young man can play Aang, he can play Damian Wayne.

Why are you wearing a dress?" -when you explained that you like to wear women's clothes Robin would still be a little confused but after a while he would understand your situation -I wouldn't tell anyone about my secret either. -Robin would try to encourage you to wear women's clothing on the street saying it will protect you from insults or people wanting to hurt you but he would understand if you weren't ready for it yet -he likes to see you wearing dresses or anything else girly Robin just likes to see you being yourself -and there's no way Robin is wearing a dress and there's no point in insisting .

Vance Hopper -Vance's first reaction to finding out his secret is like WTF -seriously he literally screamed "WHAT THE FUCK?!" and right after that he yelled "WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU DRESSING LIKE THAT?!" -he thinks someone forced you to dress like that -when you explain that you like to wear dresses he looks at you all confused -I mean why the fuck would you want to wear a skirt?! -but relax with time he will understand the fact that you like to wear women's clothes -like Robin he tells you to wear the clothes you like in public saying he will kill anyone who looks at you the wrong way -he would get a little mad when you refuse to go out with the clothes you like but oddly enough he would bore you -Vance likes to see you wearing skirts, especially shorter skirts… -and there would be no chance of him wearing a fucking dress.

I watched After Blue (2021)

Give it up for French sci-fi. It certainly is something all it's own.

On a planet of only females, a young woman and her mother are tasked with finding and killing a criminal, whom the young woman previously freed.

French director, Bertrand Mandico, directed a film called "Les Garcons Sauvages" (The Wild Boys). A film about several delinquent boys (played by women) who kill their teacher and are placed into the care of a grizzled ship's captain. This captain takes these delinquents on a journey to a magical island which slowly alters their gender. As a person who has explored my personal gender identity, and as a movie fan, I found "Les Garcons Sauvages" oddly fascinating. The film was stylish, with a classic black and white look mixed with a sparkling dreamy quality. It was, if nothing else, interesting and provocative.

So, when I came upon "After Blue" and found out it was directed by the same filmmaker, I jumped at the chance to see it. Why? Because I love "strange" filmmakers.

I often forgive flaws in a film if that film is of a unique style. Filmmakers like David Lynch, Guy Maddin and Bruce McDonald make zero compromises. Maybe their films are too weird for the mainstream and maybe I don't like some of their work, however I immediately and veraciously seek it out. Each of them makes a film as a piece of unique art, which no other director could have, or would have, made in the same way. Truly original, and true to their singular vision. For me, Bertrand Mandico can now count himself among these filmmakers.

"After Blue" is a very strange film. One that proves to me that Mandico is obsessed with female sexuality and gender. Here, he lays the foundation of a sci-fi/western story to hold up themes of sexuality and gender, but also themes of loneliness, morality and guilt. And, while the film is deeply sexual in nature, the sexuality on display is more than mere physical desire or exploitation. Mandico uses sexuality to explore his character's wants and desires in all aspects. Doing so in a glittery dream world where sadistic women with hairy arms and blind androids with tentacle dicks roam around freely.

I very much liked this film, but I very much like weird shit that I don't get to see other places, which may taint my opinion slightly.

With it's fake-y sets.and over stylized visuals, "After Blue" looks like a stage-play and a music video had a three-way with a soft core porno, but not in a bad way. Mandico is still able to build an interesting enough world with what he has at his disposal and the story he's telling. Even if that world is often too strange for its own good.

Now, I can't exactly recommend this to anyone like it's a normal film, but if you're the type of person who's attention can be held by weirdness and sex and slime and guns named after fashion brands and a killer named Kate Bush...this is for you.

Gilmore Girls - Jess Mariano and Paris Geller

Criminally robbed of the besties bonus points I deserve...

Jess Mariano is my character of all time. I'll fight you. The highlights: Jess comes from an abusive, loveless family situation and is a bit prickly from the ordeal (both to himself and others), but is just such a goodhearted and hardworking person that he gets out the other side with both loving relationships (with himself and others) and a good, safe life that he’s built for himself. Character of all time!!! Who does it for us like Jess Mariano?

Paris is incredibly ambitious and a little bit of a bitch (in a cool, sexy way), and therefore I love her. Also, your honor she’s a repressed lesbian. These things happen. And I will never get over how quickly she comes to understand Marxist theory when working her first job. She was never a snob; she literally was just never exposed to anything outside the upper-class.

My man Jess would have helped her with that and it would have been amazing. And he would have been comfortable living in that scary apartment with her (and Doyle) and Rory.

Gossip Girl - Serena van der Woodsen and Jenny Humphrey

When I have to shorthand my self, I say "I'm a Serena van der Woodsen type". The only reason I relate more to her than Jess in terms of self is because Serena and I shared the incredible lows of teenage girldom (plus we’re both exceptionally beautiful). Also, Jess never did drugs (cigarettes count, but they don't, also I don't think they were really a habit). Good for him! Don't do drugs! Serena definitely did drugs, and she started them (and boys, who don’t love her but sure do think she’s pretty!) very young. The incredible lows of teenage girldom... and how they stick to you into womanhood... She tries so hard to “change” when really she needs to change her situation, but that’s the struggle... How do you leave everyone and everything you’ve ever loved? And even if you could, is there really anywhere on earth you can escape the incredible lows of girldom/womanhood?

Which brings me to Jenny Humphrey. I’m not even gonna start on the incredible lows of teenage girldom because just watch the show, my poor girl... ANYWAY! Did I mention that I love seeing ambition in girls and women? She’s the living embodiment of going after what you want, *and she’s earned it*. She becomes Queen, not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES, and it was only sort of on purpose once!! And do not get me started on her high school fashion career. It kills me that her family wasn’t more supportive, but I know she’ll be successful because literally no one and nothing could ever stop her. And, I know this one is probably a hot take, but I honestly think she’s a really good person. She fights against the corrupting force of the UES better than most, and she is a really sweet and earnest person when she feels safe enough to just be herself.

Yellowjackets - Jackie Taylor and Shauna Sadecki née Shipman

Talking about teenage girldom and how it sticks to you into womanhood... I could write essays, but I'll just say this. Jackie is my favorite. She's most of us (I say assuming my experiences are universal). She is the metaphor for what happens when you devote yourself to the role assigned at teenage girlhood (it makes you repressed, i.e. the death of the self).

Shauna is a metaphor for all the fight it takes to survive teenage girldom into womanhood, and how it's a never-ending fight (she's the friend/lover, she's the mother/daughter, she's the hater/butcher/killer).

Teenage girldom is traumatic experience and it colors your adulthood, and that's the show, but also these two characters are the clearest metaphors on that main theme. Everything is a metaphor!!! Also, they're both sides of the repressed sapphic romantic-friendship. Hard relate, my girls!

TMMM - Luke Kirby's Lenny Bruce and Astrid Weissman

Some of you may be asking, Why not Midge? Why not Susie? Well, this is my list and I do what I want.

Luke Kirby's Lenny Bruce needs no explanation. He is the dream man. He's earnest and exceptionally romantic, and there's something about him you can't help find admirable to the point of inspirational. Maybe it's that he's brave and honest. Maybe it's that he's ambitious in that way that's hard to be as a woman. Maybe he's just really charming, because he's that for sure. But, of course, he's a mess too. Who isn't?

Astrid Weissman! She's so so so funny. She's not trying to be funny. She's not making jokes. She's just delightful! Also, all of us out there swimming in cultures that are not those in-which we were raised. Astrid Weissman has got you with her over-correcting, overcompensating, and just sheer enthusiasm. You go, Astrid!

The Vampire Diaries - Elena Gilbert and Katerina/Katherine Petrova/Peirce

UGH! If they aren’t the dichotomy of self, idk what is!!!

Elena is *such* a good person. She is literally the martyr she is such a good person. She loves and she will die for that love. That’s Elena. But it’s all about circumstances. Elena is an orphan (she had a beautiful, loving family before they died) suffering from survivor’s guilt, and she’s mostly keeping herself together with her love for her loved ones. If she isn’t living for them, she’s just gonna disappear.

Now, Katerina/Katherine, she’s got kind of the opposite thing going on. She had her newborn baby she loved very much ripped from her arms before being disowned by her family and banished from her hometown. She has no one who loves her and no one to love. She holds herself together with love of self or she’s just gonna disappear. And that she does. She is a ruthless pragmatist, because she has to be to survive. Because the world is harsh and cruel (and frankly really sexist), but she’s clever and strong, and she survives. That’s what she does. Elena dies for you. Katerina/Katherine survives despite you. Everything is a metaphor!!! My favorite thing about Katerina/Katherine is that she doesn’t *just* survive. No, she *loves* life. She’ll literally be being held captive by a vampire who has been hunting her relentlessly for hundreds of years, and she’ll take a moment alone in the house to drink and dance, because what’s a spare moment if it’s not being lived? Life is not just about survival.

THG - Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark

Bonus points: They're basically soulmates!

Here's the thing. Katniss is a survivor/pragmatist with zero social skills, but an endless and earnest pit of love and enough passion to literally fuel a revolution.

Peeta is a child abuse victim who has learned to wield social manipulation (the charm offensive! plus literally lying!), but hasn't met an honest expression of emotion in his life (until he figures he's about to die so he might as well tell Katniss she's pretty) and doesn't know how to receive love.

They literally just fit each other. Peeta is charming when Katniss literally cannot. Katniss helps him survive when he's literally dying in a river camouflaged in mud and plants. But most importantly, Peeta teaches Katniss how to live in more than just survival mode, and Katniss reaches into her deep well of love and teaches Peeta how to be loved. Everything is a metaphor, but your honor, they are the couple of all time!!!

12. the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

i mean. my girl. helena bertinelli. she's not unpopular in the sense that she's like widely disliked but she does just get forgotten about a lot, esp by batfam stans. and it sucks!! bc she's a majorly compelling character!! and has been around a lot longer than other characters in the batfam!! she's complicated and morally gray sometimes but also sympathetic and genuine and majorly badass. she deserves so much more cred than she gets, esp on tumblr.

i've seen other people (helena stans) make this point before but the thing about helena is she really is the character that fanon jason stans think he is. like... she's a child of gotham who suffered from major trauma and has seen firsthand the danger of organized crime. she's taught herself to fight so she can both protect people and take revenge on those who harmed her and her loved ones. she has a temper and a capacity for extreme violence, and she's not afraid to hold back, but she can control herself and doesn't hurt innocent people. she's willing to kill, but not indiscriminately, in fact she's often held herself in check bc she knows she shouldn't play executioner for everyone. she will do permanent damage if she needs to but she's not like meaninglessly vicious (no bags full of severed heads from her). and she is super protective of the people of gotham (no man's land), women and children in particular.

and it also feels like she gets shunted aside from the batfam bc she's not truly "one of them" in fandom's eyes, but that is bullshit imo. yeah, she's had major disagreements with them, esp bruce, but they're also perfectly capable of working together and have respect for each others' skills. she has a complicated relationship but she's been an important part of the gotham vigilante community since the early 90s. and i feel like helena gets excluded for reasons that don't seem to apply to jason, or stephanie! she has a lot of common with stephanie. like... outsider vigilante working on their own at first. complicated relationship with bruce in particular. neither of them would ever call bruce their dad, bc he's not, but he does play a certain mentor/father-esque figure in their lives that they can project their daddy/authority issues on (which, i mean he does make it easy for them by being a huge asshole lol). her talents are sometimes dismissed by bruce the same ways steph's have been. steph basically browbeat damian into having an younger-sibling type relationship with her; tim did the same to helena, except he was the younger sibling lol. i've said it before and i've said it again, her relationship with tim is HIGHLY underrated. and like steph and tim, helena has had a romantic relationship with a batkid- dick- that has been complicated at best, but there's still mutual respect there. (tbh i think dickhelena is way more interesting than a lot of other ships, including dickb*bs, but that's a story for another post).

and yea this basically turned into a long thesis as to why helena deserves to be a bigger batfam member lol. but it's true!! she's so fascinating and cool and has been given the shaft way too much (esp in n52, when they randomly made her a spy...) plus one of my fave things about her is her love for teaching. most gotham vigilantes don't have day jobs bc, who has the time, but helena really loves being a teacher and cares about the kids she teaches a lot. she is directly a part of the gotham city community that way and i think it's a very important aspect of keeping her grounded and happy. it makes her unique. we've gotten a little bit more helena content in the past year or two but i always want more!! i want to see her interact with other batfam members more too, like damian, duke, kate, cass... dc give her more respect!!!!

just accidentally ranted so gonna keep this short lol. i hate the court/parliament of owls storylines literally sooooo much and i esp hate the fascination with talon dick. i literally will not consume any content related to that. i'm sure i've posted my reasons before (like years ago) but i think it's a stupid and somewhat offensive concept.

I genuinely don't know that I could pick favorites, but the ones that immediately spring to mind are the White Stripes, Garbage, Frightened Rabbit, The Velvet Underground, The Stooges, Sleater-Kinney, Franz Ferdinand, The Strokes, Kings of Leon, Blitzen Trapper, The Kills, Silverchair, Nirvana, Razorlight, Fleet Foxes, The Avett Brothers, Rilo Kiley, and like... 4. What’s a hobby they used to have that they miss?

Clint - Hunting. Just good ol’ fashioned out in the woods, full camo, hunting, heh. Usually buck. Also fishing. He likes the great outdoors, and there’s something very satisfying about catching/hunting your own food and seeing it through to the end. It’s gotta be done humanely, though, of course.

Natasha - Honestly? Dancing. She doesn’t dance nearly as much as she used to, for obvious reasons. But despite the reasons behind why she was initially taught how to dance and why to dance, she actually does really love it, especially ballet and lyrical styles. It’s very therapeutic for her, especially to do alone. It’s like meditation, but more importantly, it reminds her that 1) her body is her own now, and 2) it can be used for beautiful things too, not only killing.

5. Can they cry on command? If so, what do they think about to make it happen?

Clint - Yes, although I don’t know that he’s ever had a reason to. If he ever had to, though, all he’d have to think about is something terrible happening to Laura and the kids, and maybe even about it being his fault somehow, and that would bring out the waterworks every time.

Natasha - Yes. She thinks back to how she wasn’t able to protect Yelena and keep her from being scooped up by the Red Room and just lets the guilt she usually suppresses really hit her. It’s enough to get her going every time, and fairly quickly on the spot too.

18. Who do they love truly, 100% unconditionally (if anyone)?

Clint - Laura, his kids, and Nat.

Natasha - Yelena, Clint, and Steve.

37. What’s a secret they haven’t told serious romantic partners and don’t plan to tell?

Clint - How much he sometimes really enjoyed sticking it to the bad guys. Clint isn’t overly a fan of killing, but there’s been some times when it has felt good because he knew he was taking out someone really despicable. He’s afraid of being judged for that, or what it might mean on a deeper psychological level, so it’s not something he’s ever told his romantic partners, not even Laura.

Natasha - I mean, with the exception of Bruce (I personally really disliked that whole ship, heh, but if you loved it, that’s totally fine!), she really doesn’t share that she can’t have kids. It’s bad enough that she physically just can’t have them, but it’s also an emotional issue too, kindof a feeling of being less of a woman, not a whole woman, or not a whole person someone would want as a romantic partner. Besides that, I don’t think she’s ever told her romantic partners even half of all the assassinations she’s done, and how they were carried out. Some of the methods she used, both weapons-wise and through manipulation on her part, she’s quite ashamed of.

42. If invited to a TED Talk, what topic would they present on? What would the title of their presentation be?

Clint - “10 Things You Didn’t Know About The Avengers,” a presentation about humanizing the Avengers and seeing them as the people they are, instead of the larger than life heroes the media sometimes portrays them as. He’d love to do something like this to everyday public audiences as part of helping them to understand and trust the team they might look to for protection.

Natasha - “The Power of Women,” a presentation about women for women, focusing on the strengths they have rather than their vulnerabilities, how women can maintain some agency in the most compromising of circumstances, and how to turn setbacks, fears, and traumas into personal motivation. This kind of topic would really mean a lot to her, and I could honestly even see her teaching self-defense courses to women.

56. If they’re scared, who do they want comfort from? Does this answer change depending on the type of fear?

Clint - If he’s at home, Laura, for sure. If he’s not home, he’ll try to call her. And no, it doesn’t... she’s his go-to whenever he needs someone to kindof talk him down out of his own head a bit. Clint is a catastrophizer, and sometimes he needs help to take a breath or take a step back from things and focus on the here and now, not on what hasn’t even happened yet (and might not).

Natasha - It would change based on the type of fear. For doubts about being an Avenger, political/legal worries, or strategic anxieties, she’d go to Steve. For doubts about her own character and fears that she’ll never be able to be a better person, she might go to Steve, but she’s more likely to go to Clint. If things get really dark and her fears make her really retreat into herself (it doesn’t happen often, but it does happen), then she’d need to just be alone.

• hes part of a universe called Court, which follows a human’s (Ilya) discovery of a supernatural fantasy type world spanning several realms

• within this universe there exists a sect that reside mostly in the realm where earth is thats made up of various nonhuman beings. this sect abide under rules made by the faction leaders, who govern their own factions which can range from a single person to thousands large. theres seven factions total. when they originated, the seven leaders were a Demon, a Vampire, a Fair, a Godling, a Dragon, a Human, and Death. Tradition stands that each faction is typically still led by the same species as its originator, but any type of creature can join any type of faction

• Bruce is the current demon faction leader :3

• hes VERY old. his father was a syriac speaking priest of the Church of the East in China near the end of the Tang dynasty in the 8th century, who had traveled as a Christian missionary to Chang’an. His mother was upper class Han Chinese living in the same city at the time. Due to increasingly harsh policies against foreigners at the time and laws being passed where Han Chinese women could only marry within the same race, and a priest being, well, a priest, Bruce happened out of wedlock

• His mother raised him but he studied under his father as a student of Christian studies to become a priest. His original names were Basil by his father and Zhu Jin by his mother

• he was a really bad at being a priest. he was extremely cynical and rarely put effort into anything he did not care about. feelings of not having a whole family + outcasted from Han society + outcasted from the church + generally having a distain for people led him to be easily swayed by a demon promising a more interesting life

• initially hes tricked by the demon into becoming one himself, but he kinda gets into it

• really its the most ambitious hes ever been. still extremely cynical and pathetic and wet and moody but he has a goal and through demon bloodlines and hard work and killing he becomes the demon faction leader :3

• he has four sons; 1 biological (Damen), 2 adopted (Darren and Andrew), 1 created (Alex). Hes on bad terms with all of them but Damen, who doesnt care enough about anything Bruce does to be on bad terms with

• his bestie is Camilla, the vampire faction leader

• he still has a distain for humans but views them more as pests than anything now

• except for Ilya he wants to adopt him like a dog

• he loooves to lie and throws tantrums when he doesnt get his way and has NO idea how to communicate properly nor does he care to

• his house’s upper interior is consistently shifting and not bound by size, so while it looks like a mid sized gothic type mansion, it can comfortably sleep thousands if need. the house can appear in several locations in earths realm

• his human form is around ~8ft tall with his full demon form around 16ft. in his human form he has just past his shoulders black straight hair and not a full beard but more than just scruff

I was Enjoying being an Avenger It was a way for me help other people, But It wasn't always this luxury superhero life I was living, Growing up in the midwest states with only my mother, it was her and I she taught me everything to read to write to fight, Defending myself if They where to come for us, when I was ten I was taken away from my mother, my home,  To become a "widow" The forced me into the "red room" and I know what you're thinking the red room isn't that in Russia? well once the American government found out how these girls were doing in Russia they decided to make their own prototype taking certain girls that showed up on the radar and putting them in but it wasn't the same as the Russian one it was different it was more like science experiments on objects then training, And every day was just another injection or experiment to see what you could do, they wanted these little girls to be The worlds best murderers pretty much, and that's what we were only 10 of us came out of it alive, and to this day, Only I still live,  in the middle of this all of these experiments and fighting in just the life that I have created for myself I have managed to show up on Furry radar, But not in a good way, I was Taken once again,but for some reason I didn't put up a fight, They sent someone who at the time I knew as Another widow by the look of her suit, She offered me something No one has ever, it was help, a New start, A Shield Agent, and Eventually an Avenger myself , as I continued I learned who this women was, Natasha, she did have a hard shell and a strong demeanor but if you got to know her super soft and caring, deep down inside she was always there for me when I need her, and I was there for her there was a small chance I developed feelings for her but I can brush those to the side we have a great friendship there's no need to ruin it, right? We, meaning the Avengers and I were having a movie night, this type of thing happen often as a way of 'team bonding' It was fun most of the time, team bonding would change sometimes, From a movie to a game night, or a party things like that.

I walk down into the man room to find, Natasha, Clint, and Maria talking on a couch, Tony, Capt, and Bruce on the other, as Wanda and peter sat with blanket wrap around them on the floor, we waited for Vis and Bucky to walk in before starting.

I took a seat next to bucky who was like my best friend, he knew everything, Including my crush on Natasha, I would tur and lie and say it was small but when she gives me butterflies by looking at me, well- it's not so little.

Peter had gotten to pick the movie, which was not an Advantage to me, I might try and act like a badass, cold, assassin, But I just can't do Horror movies, and what did Peter pick, a horror movie! and damn Horror movie.

the movie had started and I was doing okay, I did my best to hide my fear, I really don't feel like getting picked on by the team for being weak, But as I watch the killer in the movie drag away one of the Movie characters and Kill them off, I let out a small yelp, quickly hiding my face, I knew the team saw this, and with that a group of Laughs. came my way.

Everyone but Natasha was laughing at me, I only knew this when she was the one to walk by me kicking me and bit before motioning for me to follow. I reluctantly got up, followed into the kitchen.

"you alright?" she asked a wave of concern in her voice as I nodded

"It's okay to be scared, you know that right?" she said after I just looked down, I wasn't gonna let my guard down so much for the whole team to see, and I was definitely not going to chicken out.

"N-nat can we go finish the movie please" I said giving here a small smile as it was now her turn to nod.

we snuck back to our spots in the Main living area, where everyone was still, eyes glued on the movie, other then Bucky who was smile at me, I rolled my eyes sitting back down. trying to not focus on the screaming and other sound affects coming from the movie.

finally it was over, 2hours later and I was quick to rush to my room, not wanting to be bothered, more so taunted about tonight, so I made the choice to sleep.

I laid down in my bed, It seemed like things we're staring at me and I couldn't get comfortable tossing and turning constantly, It was making me go crazy, until luckily I passed out in my bed

[A little later]

"No no stop...pl- NO!" I let out a murdering scream as I jumped up now sitting up in my bed, My room was dark, only the moonlight shining through the curtains brought a dim light into the room definitely not enough to light the entire room but a little light close by the window, I stayed sitting curled up in a ball, my legs pulled close to my chest Laying my head down on my own legs trying to quiet my sobs but it was a little late certain somebody who's room was just across the hall from mine at the compound had Heard me....

[Natashas POV]

"No no stop...pl- NO!" followed By a screen was all that was heard before silence, I was confused but nonetheless quickly Rose from my own bed, A little startled from the odd awakening but made my way to the door, I slowly creep across the hallway sobs grew louder as an inch closer to someone's door

"Y/N?” are they- Crying? Was the only thought that came to my head at the moment, I took a moment to think what I was about to do through but I wanted to get to Y/N but I didn't want to startle them, I slowly pushed open their door.

"Y/N?" I said softly, not knowing exactly how they react I've never seen them cry they were always so strong and independent but still, Loving. I watched the small body that was curled up on the bed move to look at me before looking away.

"I-i'm sorry if I woke you, i'm fine" they said to me stuttering a bit in the doing of so.

I didn't believe that you don't need to be a train spy to see through something like that, it's quite transparent, slowly inching closer to them, still being careful of the situation, I sat down on the bed close by

"n-nat?" they questioned themself saying it to me

"yes Sweetie?" And like that I had pulled y/n onto my lap letting them cry into my chest. occasionally hushing them

"shh it's okay sweetie"

once's I had gotten them to calm down a bit Still siting in my lap, Rubbing her back as y/n sobs came down to small hiccups

[Readers POV]

I felt really bad about waking Nat with one of my Nightmares, But it felt great to be in her arms, She was comforting, I clung to her like a baby onto it mother,  she rubbed my back as we stayed there in silence until she finally spoke up once again

"wanna talk about it?" she asked me not pressing at all, waiting for me to open up

My response was to move back a little so she could see face as I took a moment to speak

"It was like the movie but you where with me, we were in the red room and the room you away and I had to watch them kill you, with all the things they did to me once, I didn't wanna lose you, I cant lose you" I paused as I realized what I just said and I looked up to her to see if she showed any emotion her face had one of her signature smirks, but I try to pretend I didn't just say that and continue

" they took me and strapped me down just like in the movie, and you were on the table as they injected you with who know what, you screamed and I lost you, Before I- i died, but it was so real, Like that was our real faith!"  I tried my best not to sob, I already looked so vulnerable.

"It's okay, nothing will happen, i-i'll be right here with you"  Nat said to me Laying me back down into my bed pulling the duvet back on

it was almost easy enough for me to go back to sleep, I was half asleep laying there when she stuck I felt movement in the bed and she laid me down out of her arms completely, as she started to leave, I went for her arm pulling her back.

"Stay please- I mean umm if you'd like of course, I'm so-" she cut my off but crawling back into my bed, and under the covers, pulling me into her arms as I snuggled more into her chest taking in her spicy sent

"Go to sleep Dorogoy" she whispered

"t-thank you, for always being there" I said sheepishly back to her before sleep over took both of us....

you know people can oppose the death penalty in real life and also want the FICTIONAL catharsis of seeing a character who's been predatory to multiple women get killed, right?

Bestie, I understand catharsis writing, it’s my entire coping mechanism, and also not what my post was about.

Besides the fact that I wrote it as a frustrated ramble at 4-something-a.m. my post was specifically about why I think Batman as an already established character shouldn’t kill. And on top of that, how many people genuinely don’t seem to understand this is a boundary he set for himself and how frankly speaking upsetting it is that they speak so frivolously about it. Because very often you don’t hear “oh, the Joker made Batman/Bruce Wayne personally suffer so much, so Batman deserves to kill/hurt him” but “the Joker hurt X and I want Batman to do something about it”.

The post wasn’t even specifically about the Joker. You could make it about Ra’s or KGBeast or Scarecrow or Mad Hatter - they’ve all hurt people.

And yes, I understand the catharsis of seeing a representative of painful actions getting hurt/dying in turn. I win so hard at minority bingo, trust me, there are enough people I wish would experience the pain they inflict on me just once in their miserable fucking life.

But my post wasn’t about that kind of catharsis.

You know what my post was about? Respecting boundaries. Something that I also don’t experience too often. It was about boundaries specific to the genre that Batman as a character inhabits.

Perhaps using “none of you fuckers understand why the death penalty is bad” was an ill-fitting exaggeration on my 2 minute rage written tumblr post I didn’t expect to get more than a 100 notes from my mutuals who know my taste and takes on media, but tbh? If you look at the notes, the number of takes going “well Batman shouldn’t kill but the state—“ is kind of,,, weird too? Because again, Batman, as a fictional character in a very specific type of genre, believes I’m second, third, and fourth chances. Believes in telling even the Joker “you can get better if you try”. Believes that there shouldn’t be more killing, no matter how heavy the guilt.

And I find that very comforting.

So yeah, I am, in fact, very well aware of how what you want in fiction differs from what you believe in real life.

But im also very tired of people dragging Batman through the mud because he refuses to harm himself even more and believes that people can in fact get better even when they don’t believe it themselves, or don’t even want to.

I don’t need a hero who hurts everyone remotely bad in his vicinity. I want to read about a character who wants to save everyone, who believes everyone is worth saving.

So yeah, uh, genuinely, go read your catharsis Joker beat down fics if that helps you deal with whatever bullshit capitalism and the patriarchy throws at us today. Consume the media that makes you happy, just, don’t act as if there isn’t a point to Batman?
