no bitches behavior below
i bought some batman/robin comics second-hand from a con i was at a few months ago (just because they were there and there weren't that many). i finally finished reading them all..... i can see now why they were on sale......
im JOKING kind of. well. they weren't bad-bad but they didn't blow my mind either. i do not understand the hype around batman: year one (frank miller) for example but who knows maybe i'll change my mind after reading some other comics. maybe it's a relative thing. loved the art though i loooove the inking in it im such a sucker for some INK.
i saw that the nolan's dark knight films drew some influence from it and, now don't shoot me, i did not enjoy the films. outside of some iconic quotes they just did not appeal to me. but that's another topic. i noticed reeves' the batman also drew inspiration from here and i LOVE that film so the stuff here isn't all that bad. it was just that "jim has a wife named barbara" set us on the wrong foot.
anyway year one's writing felt very weird to me i was picking up vibesTM. like girl wtf was this quote it made me laugh. but like it also read to me as very "wOmeN dON't aCT lIKe WOmeN anyMORe" but im willing to assume good faith and that wasn't the intention. still really silly to me
Tumblr media
i have more bad than good to say about this book but i don't? hate it? it's hard to explain. i think im waiting for something to compare it to, something that makes me go "SEE! now THIS is good!" and im REALLY new to comics so i'll just move on now
i also read the following robin comics: days of fire and madness, wanted, teenage wasteland and the big leagues.
shamefully my interest in batman/batfam was piqued through fanon stuff but i did go in knowing fanon tim and canon tim are very different. i came away from this experience thinking tim is a bit of a fuckboy (im JOKING again but i think that's so funny). im also aware im missing a lot of context but ANYWAY
there were moments that gave me a laugh but i hated days of fire and madness (willingham) for this alone it was ickyyyyyyy everything that had something to do with von hammer i did not like. and i did not care for these characters or whatever tim was trying to do (i think he was undercover? this is where the missing context comes in. maybe if i had whatever came before this book... idk)
Tumblr media
i mainly did a lot of studying of how fanon tim compares to canon and this tim is such a little stinker it makes me laugh so hard howwww do you get demure and shy and apologetic out of this guy.
Tumblr media
other random notes: im sad i wasn't properly introduced to the infamous fake uncle like sure i saw him but i bet actually reading how that came to be would be hilarious.
also this girl...... certainly faring better than jason pffft. i do wonder if utrh has already taken place before this story or if it happens later.
Tumblr media
as for teenage wasteland, wanted, and the big leagues (beechen) i generally enjoyed them? i don't have much to say that would warrant making this post longer than it already is HAH i already did my commentary on my private twitter on them.
i have maybe one (1) thing to bring up and it's the way cass was written. AGAIN do not have anything to compare to so fanon is my only guide but something smells off here??
also that issue with klarion? LOVED the art except for one small thing.
this abomination.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i also want to show the panels that made me think tim's a fuckboy. i can SEE him wanting to bite his lip and go "ahaha then what" he's soooo LMFAO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the confidence of a smelly teenager smh
Tumblr media
ok im finally done <3 i got some new comics in the mail earlier so i'll be reading them next. and also ordered a few more through ebay from the us (bc i also got war games: act three from the con but decided i want to read the other two first)... the moment when the shipping fee is bigger than the price itself... </3

speaking more from my last post about shadow magic and its just. so interesting tbh. like the first mention of shadow magic comes from khrysalis when we enter the eclipse tower and it gives us interesting looks into how shadow magic as a whole is regarded in the spiral...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
its so insane to hear that its a forbidden magic and that grandmother raven and BARTLEBY of all people forbade it to be taught. raven i could probably understand, but considering we are now bartlebys scion... it's hard to think about the possibility that he didn't trust us before. an outsider from the spiral learning a forbidden magic...
i think what's also interesting is the fact that the shadow magic the wizard learns is a wholly unique one. shadow magic corrupted the moon magic inside the tower, so there's a possiblity that our wizard only knows this specific subset of shadow magic—one that's been permanently altered by moon magic in the eclipse tower, and one that can only be taught by sofia darkside.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it makes me wonder if velma knows the same kind, or if hers and the wizard's shadow magic is different... is one more volatile than the other? or if there's no difference at all and im looking into it too much lolol
knowing this and knowing raven forbade anyone in the spiral from ever learning shadow magic, it would make a little bit of sense for how hostile she initially seems towards the wizard... if we take what we saw from the book of secrets, then we know that magic law states that nothing is an accident—magic is reactive and 'sentient' to a certain degree, so there was no mistake in the wizard freeing grandfather spider from his prison using magic, because that's what they wanted.
granted it was for other reasons... but it doesn't paint a pretty picture of any of us. the wizard learns shadow magic, the wizard frees spider, and then spider goes on to say that theyre his favorite.
i think what makes this particularly more tragic is the fact that the wizard didn't even have a choice. sofia says this herself!
Tumblr media
they need to learn it. the sword of kings isn't enough. being a child of prophecy isn't enough. they failed once before, and theyre not eager to fail again. theyll try anything, and everything, and that includes... freeing grandfather spider.
which, you know, speaking of backlash... sofia mentions it too lol.
Tumblr media
which is interesting to me... i always complained that the morganthe fight needed a bit more oomph—which, i still believe it does, to some extent—but i think how she died was a fitting end to her. crushed underneath the weight of her own powers, her own shadow—her backlash. she was the instrument of her own defeat, and, well... that could have very well been the wizard. she's our reflection, our parallel. i think it's why the wizard never mentions or claims that theyre the one that did her in—because they technically... didn't, but they also did. which is cool!
much to think about....

The Wiz has so much African American history in it. From the costumes down to whoever creatively directed the drawings in the back grounds of many scenes. If Black Power was a movie. I’m glad my Moms introduced me to this movie as a child, Imma always come back.
I’ve always carried the soundtrack with me, but for the first time since elementary school I’m actually sitting here watching it, I got emotional a few times too…

I am posting to literally every Fandom rn and I'm sorry but I neeeeed to get this out
I LOVE looking at Malorn Ashthorn through a very literal lense. Because that makes him literally one of the most tragic characters in Wiz <3
(Came back up after writing this whole post and realized it's kinda sorta very long. So, full rant is under the break ^w^)
Edit: Please forgive any spelling mistakes, I wrote this all on my phone, which sucks lol
Every time you go to Ravenwood, he's there. Malorn, without fail, is always standing by the crater at all times. (This is what I mean by literal lol, since his sprite just wasn't put in any other locations.) Other students keep coming and going throughout the day, able to take rests in their dorms and occasionally go on field assignments, but Malorn can't do that. He just has to stand there. Waiting.
He's practically forced to be there, too. He's "Acting Professor Ashthorn" after all. He has to be there just in case a student drops by, and everyone works on their own schedule. That includes all the other Death students, especially since they're on independent study and literally have no time table to work off of. So, to make sure he can actually do his job, he needs to be ready at all times. He needs to always be on the clock. He can't leave.
What's more, he can't even go to the headmaster's office. He can't leave his station, so he can't go negotiate with Ambros. He can't ask for breaks. He can't catch up on news. He can't give or receive progress reports, assignments or updates. Unless he's deliberately called, he is, quite literally, trapped in this catch22 of seclusion.
Malorn also can't further his own learning in any meaningful way. All his other fellow students are off on assignments, doing practical work and honing their spells. Not to mention that it seems--based on Penny's side quest--that Ambros is the one who gives them their work. But Malorn can't move. Even if he got assignments, he would never be able to complete them. He's literally not allowed to learn.
Also, no one really ever shows up to Malorn's little corner of Ravenwood anymore. The other students don't actually need to go to him for anything, since they know most if not all the same spells he does, as well as not needing to turn their assignments in to him. New lore suggests that studying Death magic is wildly unpopular now that Malistaire is dead/evil/dead again, and old lore states that the already existing Death students are actively being discouraged from continuing their studies / persuaded to study different schools. Considering how few Death students you come across in-game, (keeping in mind that they have to be out and about since they have no classroom to congregate in,) it's probably safe to assume that many of the previous Death students were successfully deterred. I can't imagine Malorn sees much traffic anymore.
Even after the Death School is found by the Wizard and classes are said to resume, (even though the connection to Nightside is unstable? Eh, anyway,) Malorn is never seen outside of his usual spot. He literally cannot go to class anymore because he's too busy being Acting Professor. He now has to stand there in his usual spot, directing students to the actual Death School. (Because no one can put the building back, I guess. -_-)
And Malorn isn't even recognized for his hard work, either! Despite always being as helpful and friendly as possible, doing a pretty great job at being Acting Professor (if you ask me), he's never rewarded. The Wizard graduates, and Dwargyn is promoted to Death Professor. AND MALORN STILL HAS TO JUST STAND THERE!
Though, that also calls into question whether or not he actively wanted the role of Acting Professor or not. Sure, he's great at it, and yeah, he makes the most with what he can. But is he Acting Professor because he genuinely wanted to take up that mantle, or is he Acting Professor because he was the best of the Death students at the time? (I mean, I imagine it's because he wanted to, but we technically don't know for certain.)
Last but not least, no one likes the Death School kids. Both in old and new lore, some of the kids express how creepy the Death School is to them. They think the Death students are weird and freaky. The kids are ostracized by the rest of the Ravenwood student body simply because necromancy gives them the heebie-jeebies. So for Malorn to be stuck in Ravenwood, all day every day, surrounded by people who other him and look down on him not only because he's a necromancer, but because (I imagine) some of the kids would see his title of Acting Professor as him "sucking up to Ambros" or "thinking he's as great as Malistaire was" or "looking down on other regular students" or any other number of uncharitable assumptions. It would be hard for anyone to handle that kind of treatment for an extended period of time, including Malorn.
Malorn probably feels an immense amount of pressure from everyone's expectations of him as a Death student, an honor student, and as Acting Professor. Even though there's nothing for him to do most of the time, he still has to do it perfectly. He can't afford to fail his classmates. His friends. He's now in charge of their education, so if they fall behind, he'll be the one to blame. He has to show Ambros that Death is still worth studying, even if Malistaire might be gone. He can't make the Death School seem weak in the eyes of the other students by slacking off or being inhospitable. So he keeps a smile on his face as he stands by himself, forced to play Professor without ever getting the recognition or power of one, all while still being a student actively in school, unable to grow and get stronger with his peers due to being secluded and forbidden to leave.
"Acting Professor Ashthorn" isn't even a Professor. He's just a lonely school boy, trying to do his best, yet always coming up short.
It's sad.

wait fuck do i say oh my god or oh my gods now??? like yeah as a catholic you aren't supposed to say "oh my God" because that's using capital g God's name in vain but in my head i got around that because god ≠ God because god doesn't have that capital g and thus -> not referring to capital g God and using his name in vain. but since i'm polytheist now does that mean it'd be "oh my gods" instead?
and wait is god supposed to be capitalized in regards to other deities? like, when you're calling a deity a god of something. is gods supposed to be capitalized? because in my head god is what God is; God is his name, and what God is is god because. oh my god bflre it was God is god because there's only one, and since he's the only of his kind, what his "species" is called is just his name. like God is a being and god is the genre of being he is, and that genre of being is called god because there's just the one capital g God. but. i don't believe it's only capital g God now like i believe these other guys exist too. so i can't say that. all of the above is probably heavily inaccurate because i was raised catholic and when u're raised catholic there's just some things u never rlly actually look into because things just Are The Way They Are and for smaller stuff like that u kinda just use what u know.
i also realize what i said looks like it contradicts my initial thing abt god ≠ God so i have to explain even more. and what it boils down to is that god ≠ god. SO BASICALLY. the being God is, god, equals deity. god = deity. with oh my god though, you can't replace god with deity. like, oh my deity. nobody says that. god ≠ deity. it's like,,, two separate things. if god¹ ≠ deity, and god² = deity, then god¹ ≠ god². it's not quite a case of a word having two definitions, because the "god" in "oh my god¹" carries the same definition as god². they're just used in different ways which causes them to have different meanings. that sounds a bit contradictory but i think the point got across.
and wait now my brain has connected the dots on if god should be capitalized w other deities. it's a third god word. god¹ ≠ god² ≠ god³. because when a deity is being called a god of something it's a TITLE and god¹ and god² aren't used as titles. god² = deity = god³, but god² ≠ title while god³ = deity = title (because a god can be called "deity of..." instead). so god³ = God but also God ≠ God. if name ≠ title, and God¹ = name; God² = title, then God¹ ≠ God². i could say like — oh my god, that's a god, it's God, God of Everything — and all four instances of the word mean something different. if it's still hard to differentiate: oh my god¹, that's a god², it's God¹, God² of Everything. (ignore the god of everything part i'm still trying to work out what my religion is and how my belief in capital g God fits in with my belief in other gods, because i've been p sure that means im not christian/catholic anymore. but yea i just kinda wanted to make that example to get the point across).
SO TO RECAP:
God¹ = name
God² = title
if name ≠ title, then God¹ ≠ God²
god¹ = god used in "oh my god" = word
god² = deity = being
if word ≠ being, then god¹ ≠ deity; god¹ ≠ god²
if name ≠ word, then God¹ ≠ god¹; if title ≠ word, then God² ≠ god¹
God¹ is a god², or a being, but all god²s are not God¹; Apollo is a god², and Khonsu is also a god², but both of them aren't God¹, like how Khonsu and Apollo aren't each other, because all of them are different beings (aka god²s) and have different names.
-> like how all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares. in this metaphor god²s are rectangles and God¹ is a square, which is also a rectangle. it might get the slightest bit convoluted to ppl not familiar with christianity once the Holy Trinity is thrown into the mix but meh that isn't what this post is about; it's abt the word god and capital g God whose name is the same as his and other deities' genre of being, gods, and his name is also the same as a title other gods are given, God. i am so sorry to anyone who might be getting a headache.
but yeah context/placement and/or capitalization make a difference in the meaning.
i feel obligated to say i am not a linguist or theologist at all i'm just some lesbian who was raised roman catholic, had a crisis, and is now polytheist. i have no clue if any of this has any basis in study or something it's just me and my funky ass brain over here
......how did i manage to make my small crisis of if i'm supposed to say "oh my gods" instead of "oh my god" into a whole ass linguistics post. how do i even TAG this. I STILL DON'T EVEN KNOW IF IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE OH MY GOD OR OH MY GODS... i was just gonna end the post after the first paragraph but right before i hit post the other thought occurred to me and things spiraled from there. i am a FOOL.

i looove azteca from like. a narrative stand point
because we have this hero and thats you. were practically the stuff of legends by arc 2 just because of what kind of experience we have under our belt. we've never lost a fight, and it's assumed that we never will. that's how powerful the wizard is—everyone expects them to win, expects light to triumph shadow
and when we fail.... well. it shocks everyone doesnt it? people get angry. people get disappointed. to the wizard, who has never known failure or disappointment, it must feel like an entirely new thing. this culture was here for thousands and thousands of years—a culture and a people you never knew about until you were brought into the spiral.
and now because of you its gone. because you failed to save it and stop morganthe, its gone. and i think merle's passiveness about this situation hits a little differently this way—i read it more as disappointment, anyways. and to someone who has never known defeat, not to this capacity, with this many casualities and victims, the disappointment feels a little more crushing, doesn't it? the wizard is supposed to be a hero summoned from the legends, from a place not beyond a spiral where they had not heard of magic, and it feels like they let everyone down.
this imo is where morganthe truly establishes herself as a villain. i mean she already was a villain before imo BUT bringing a grieving man back from the dead to puppet around AND destroying a world is just straight up evil (and i love that). people like to complain about the malistaire bit which is valid in some cases but i think it really does sell the frivolity in which she chooses to go about things. like hey heres a man you killed with your own hands. probably when you were young. i brought him back from the dead to use as my pawn and now you have to fight him again btw. using a dead grieving man for my own goals. and then the fact that we cant beat him at the end, to 'send him back', is just another way she gets a leg up on us. she leaves us with unfinished business and xibalba destroying azteca is just icing on the already fucked up cake she's given us.
shes TAUNTING us. and this is important because it does come back to us in khrysalis—no doubt the wizard is still haunted by the sins of their past; their failure to save azteca. they have to get through this bit, to learn to let it go, before they can learn shadow magic. after all this, it's still stuck with us—our failure, one that she spearheaded.
dont even get me started on the wizard learning shadow magic maaaaaan because now they share one thing in common—they know shadow magic. they wield shadow magic. and shadow magic is so reviled that it's forbidden. no one else but her can really understand the isolation that comes with learning shadow magic, and it parallels the wizard and her even more because neither of them had a choice! the shadow magi turned morganthe into the shadow queen she is today, and we are subsequently forced to learn shadow magic and do the same if they ever have a chance at defeating her. i love it. i LOVE it. i love azteca... i love khrysalis....

Side tangent about Thor
This was gonna be in the main post explaining what the others are up to in my Wiz!Au but something possesed me while writing Thor's part and I ended up with this bit. This honestly can apply to Thor's character as a whole so Im posting this by itself. You can read this as a Thor character analisis and his treatment in fanfiction, if you ignore the small part that refrences the AU. Or you can read this as a AU post and a little snippit of the bigger post Im making, either is fine.
- Fanon Thor and Canon Thor dont really line up like- at all, but neither dose early MCU Thor with later MCU Thor, which sucks. I plan for him to act like pre snap angry Thor, but more calm because he now knows that Loki is alive and that is grounding him.
Thor isnt dumb, and I hate how Fanon have this warped vision of him being a stupid bumbling idiot that dosent know anything about anything. I get that he is new to Earth and stuff but come on, they guy can talk just fine. Thor is a smart and strong, but hes also a bit care free, goofy and caring, hes an empath. That show in the way he is arguably hit the hardest with the snap. Hes just trying to do good and live up to the responsibility put on him as king, but hes also wild and free as we see him going on adventures saving people and even giving his title of king to valkery later on. Thor is a King just trying to do good and protect the people he loves.
Thor understands the situation, and has a soul goal in mind along side the other thousand angry and desprate throughs running through it. Find Loki. Because if he can do that on thing, he knows he will be able to do everything else and save the people he love. Thor is a hero through and through. He will protect anyone and everyone he finds along the way, being a free spirit that cant help but save people in need be it from danger or an unjust systum. These are all things we see in his character in the movies, and it sucks that it gets ignored like that.
I know that its a bit hard to write for MCU Thor sometimes because his character can be a bit inconsistant, but Thor isnt dumb, hes just kind.

I'm not going to see the Wicked film when it comes out but I saw some really cool art for it and remembered it's basicaly just doomed yuri. I haven't seen the musical for it either but from the trailers for the movie it's doomed yuri. Why would they show in the trailers the modern good witch or the north/south (idk the last wizard of Oz media I've consumed in the last couple years was 'The Wiz', you know the parody with Michael Jackson) talking about the wicked witch of the west then cut to meeting her. It's giving doomed yuri.
