Little things that improved my life šœ—šœšĖšā‹†
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Accepting my sleep schedule.Ā I'm a night owl; I focus at night, I'm calm at night, I'm motivated at night. For a long time, I tried to fight this since everyone always preaches getting up early, but since I started accepting my natural sleep schedule, I've been feeling a lot better and have become way more productive.
"drink more water". TEA.Ā Tea is the secret here. I will be honest, I hate drinking water; it doesn't matter if I have a cute water bottle or a cute glass, I still hate it. TEA.
Replying quickly.Ā I used to be one of those people who get a text message and think, "Oh, I'll reply to that later", and then just forget about it entirely. Now, I text back as soon as I see the message. This has not only improved my texting anxiety (which I cause on my own by now replying and then feeling bad) but also deepened my connection to my friends. <3
Keeping my circle small and being okay with that.Ā Over the past months, I've had this sudden urge to expand my social circle and get to know more and more people, especially after I moved in August. However, this quickly ended in what I like to call my "social burnout". I was tired, annoyed, and overwhelmed. It took a few weeks for it to settle, but I've come to the conclusion that I would much rather have a smaller circle of people who I trust and love deeply than aĀ hugeĀ group of friends, and that's totally okay.
Wearing what I like.Ā Even though I live in a big city, I'd still say that my style can sometimes be a bit more extravagant than what most people wear, another point is that I'm very uncomfortable with pants so I only wear skirts, which is also considered a bit odd where I live. But over the past years, I've come to accept that and have become so sure of myself and found such comfort in my style that I now just wear whatever I like, and it makes every day a little bit nicer.
Reading and writing for pleasure.Ā Reading books outside of my studies andĀ spending time researching topics that simply interest me is suchĀ a great way to calm your mind.Ā Same for writing, I always like to say thatĀ to writeĀ is to think; putting your thoughts on paper in cohesive and well-crafted sentences that you can then reread and think over again is such a liberating thingĀ to do.
Reaching out more.Ā fuck the whole "double texting" and "no contact" thing. If you want to speak to someone becauseĀ theyĀ mean something to you,Ā thenĀ just do it. Unless they specifically asked for space, you shouldn't feel bad about wanting to be in touch with them. Many even really appreciate it when you show that you truly care. Let's stop the nonchalant act, and instead, let's face deep emotions and true vulnerability. <3
As always, please feel free to share your own little insights and things that helped you improve comments! <3

HOW TO GET OUT OF A READING SLUMP
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Inspired by how I'm currently trying to read again.Ā
START SHORTER. Try to read something manageable for you, and it doesn’t have to even be a full novel. It could be an essay on something that interests you or any short stories you find. Get into the habit of reading at your own pace, till you feel ready to take on something bigger.Ā
SET REALISTIC GOALS. Instead of wanting a goal like completing a book within a week, I would say 20 minutes of reading per day or at least 2 hours per week. You don’t have to track the time when you’re reading, but make mental notes of when you start reading and how long you read.Ā
EXPLORE. You may even be tired of reading certain genres, and not notice it. While in a slump, I would explore different books and see what interests me the most. For example, if you love reading romance books, try some action ones instead(or vice versa.)
REREAD FAVES. The familiarity of some books can help us get back into the swing of reading. Every time I reread a book, I always pick up on new details that I didn’t notice before. Reread one of your favourite books and try to spot details that you didn’t spot before.Ā
MAKE A LIST. Create a list of all the books that you want to read or reread. I feel like the process of seeing all the books you could, really encourages you to pick up that book.Ā
TRY A DIFFERENT FORMAT. For a lot of us, reading paperback or hard copy is the way to go. However, when I’m in a slump, I feel like opting for a different format helps me to get back into reading. For example, a digital book, or an e-book. (or vice versa)
READ IN A DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENT. I love LOVE, reading in an actual library. It is not for everyone, but a change of scenery can help. Some ideas can be at a park, a cafe, beaches and or a nature trail.Ā
PAIR READING WITH ANOTHER ACTIVITY. Some examples are exercising, cooking, travelling/commuting or doing mindfulness activities. This is more for getting back into the habit, once you’ve got it again, I would say to focus only on reading.Ā

an angels guide: my perfect winter evening routine ā‹†ļ½”ĖšąØą§Ėšļ½”ā‹†
hi angels! i cant believe it’s almost christmas… im feeling so angelic and wintery! im very excited and i thought a good post would be a winter evening routine (especially as a few of you so kindly asked me for one)! my goals with my winter evening routine are primarily to be productive but also to get cozy and properly rest and recover for the next day. remember this is an ideal evening routine and not something ill achieve every evening! enjoy angels.

arrive home by 4:30 - 5:00.
spend a maximum of half an hour changing, putting clothes in the laundry, unpacking bag and getting books and supplies ready for work later. prep anything needed for cooking later.
make a cup of tea, warm matcha or hot chocolate. have a snack if needed!
refill bottle of water.
settle down and start work, focusing on most urgent work and doing what i can to make future tasks easier.
check what i need school wise for next day, pack bag and organise notes and resources needed. if possible read up on material for upcoming lesson to begin getting a grasp on the knowledge needed.
when finished with work do an evening workout for 30 minutes to an hour (on days when i have not worked out in the morning).
start cooking dinner and eat.
tidy up kitchen and prepare anything needed for lunches/breakfast the next day.
make a green tea to aid digestion!
prepare for a shower or bath.
dry brush prior to washing.
when in water exfoliate if shaving, i use either a dove sugar scrub, a lush one or a body shop one (normally in sweet, fruity or sugary scents).
regardless of whether i have exfoliated or not i then use a plain, unscented bar of soap to cleanse my body. i use a wash cloth to really cleanse my body and ensure all soap traces are removed.
if its a shaving day i massage shaving gel on the places im shaving, applying a light layer of baby oil to soften the skin and hair in particularly sensitive areas.
use a scented body wash and wash and clean everywhere thoroughly.
towel dry gently and apply a plain body lotion (the thicker the better during winter). when it has sunk in apply a body oil and scented lotion other the top.
put on my fave cozy pjs.
watch something or give myself some relaxing downtime. my favourites at the moment are anything christmassy (i love festive episodes from my fave shows and christmas films!), gilmore girls and some really interesting documentaries.
fill up bottle with water.
use mouthwash, clean teeth and floss.
pm skincare.
nightly yoga stretch.
get into bed and do a few minutes of journaling (or longer sometimes inspiration strikes late!).
read in bed until i am ready to rest, then go to sleep.

thank you for reading angels! i tried to include timings where possible but my schedule can vary massively - this is an example of a day where i had no activities etc. this isnt what every evening looks like for me, i try to find what works for me and be adjustable with a few daily non negotiables. happy christmas countdown to all who celebrate! feel free to tell me your evening routines or give me and others any tips - i love hearing from all of you angels.
love, m.
