"Mourning clothes!
Mourning clothes, indeed. Even though all the clans in the cultivation world used extravagant words to describe the Gusulan Sect's uniframe as the most beautiful and Lan Wangli as an incomparable and rare beauty, nothing could prevent his bitter expression from making him look as if he thought his wife passed away"

need more fics showcasing WWX's martial skill. Love the flute and ranged demonic cultivation attacks but WWX was also an accomplished swordmen, and head disciple. Need WWX to suplex someone. Or grapple.
Also more chengqing as a melee weapon. it'd be cool to see WWX use a spear too

Lan Xichen: Sang-di, are you the one who started the rumors that Wangji and Wei Wuxian were married?
Nie Huaisang: Yes. Honestly, I'm ashamed I didn't start the rumors while Wei-gongzi was alive
Lan Xichen: Why would you do such a thing?
Nie Huaisang: Stress relief
Lan Xichen: What?
Nie Huaisang: You know how stressful being a sect leader is. And who's going to correct the rumors? The dead guy? Or the guy acting like a grieving widow over the dead guy?

see, the problem here is that "did they actually deserve to die" and "how were they depicted / how much narrative weight did they get" are two different questions.
the following wall of text will be moreso a further explanation as to what i said in my original post rather than a direct reply to yours, as your reply seems centered around the thesis of "well, the people wei wuxian killed had it coming," which is not what i was talking about. i'm not trying to castigate wei wuxian, and frankly i don't give two shits whether the people wei wuxian killed deserved it or not.
"did they deserve to die?" is an ethical question, and when answering ethical questions, what matters first and foremost is reason and consistency. for the sake of argument, let's return to mr. "you killed my parents." as you've described above, the intended reader takeaway is basically "the parents fucked around and found out (by showing up at nightless city), thus they did have it coming." as the text currently is, the surviving (adult) child of these parents is enough of an asshole about it (by showing up to the second siege of the burial mounds) that the conclusion "well your parents fucked around and found out, so they deservedly got rekt, asshole" is quite easy for the reader to come to.
now imagine a slightly different version of MDZS where everything is the same, but MXTX also included a scene with mr. "you killed my parents" crying over the graves of his dead parents. the thing is--in this new scenario, how much the parents morally "had it coming" does not change at all. if the parents had it coming in the original MDZS, then the parents also had it coming in this version of MDZS that includes a scene of their surviving child crying over their deaths, because nothing about the situation itself has changed. from a rational point of view, if you have already concluded that a man and a woman deserved to die, then reading an account of their child weeping over their deaths should not change your assessment as to how much the man and woman deserved to die.
but this isn't how fiction works. reader responses to works of fiction are not founded in rational applications of abstract moral philosophy, but rather emotional responses to the story and characters that are specifically directed by the author's writing decisions. how upset a reader feels when a character is killed, how much the reader thinks the character deserved it, and how much the reader condemns the person who killed the character--all vary not just on the concrete details of the killing, but also how much narrative focus each character gets. even if the actual scenario were exactly the same, a story that followed the asshole victim until their killing would elicit a vastly different audience response than a story that followed the morally upstanding killer. even within stories that focus on the morally upstanding killer, a story that gives the asshole victim a non-asshole moment of regular human emotion will still elicit a different reader response than a story that only depicts the asshole victim as a one-dimensional asshole.
therefore, including any sort of scene where your asshole victim displays a non-asshole regular human emotion is a risk. when you do so, you run the danger that your reader's emotions might be swayed by the asshole victim's non-asshole emotion, which then might lead them to become less sympathetic to your morally upstanding killer. what if the reader's heartstrings are tugged by this person weeping over their parents' graves? what if that makes them side-eye wei wuxian, even if it's just a little bit? though this risk is much lower for background characters, it's honestly never zero.
all of the above is kind of abstract, so, to further illustrate what i mean about audience emotional reactions, let us consider a more concrete example. consider an alternate version of MDZS where, after describing for us all these scenes of lan xichen encouraging his younger brother's burgeoning "friendship" with wei wuxian, MXTX then had lan xichen die at nightless city, beheaded by the reanimated corpse of one of his lan cousins after wei wuxian went berserk. from a logical, moral-philosophy point of view, everything you said about the background characters being in their "finding out stage"--in other words, that the background characters killed by wei wuxian had it coming--must logically also apply to the killed lan xichen. lan xichen, just like the unnamed background-character aggressors killed at nightless city by wei wuxian, also showed up to the pledge conference to declare war on wei wuxian; therefore, if the background-character aggressors at nightless city deserved to die, then so did lan xichen. the reasoning that is applied to background characters who behaved as lan xichen did must logically also be applied to lan xichen. therefore, from a moral point of view, not much about this scenario has changed at all. lan xichen had it coming too.
however--don't you think the reader reaction would be quite different? unlike with the unnamed background characters who wei wuxian actually killed at nightless city, lan xichen has a human face. the readers have spent time with him, observed his wide variety of interpersonal connections and non-asshole traits, been given the time to become emotionally attached to him. the knowledge that he is a human being whose life has moral weight is not merely abstract knowledge, but a concrete reality we have been presented with. thus, in this alternate version of MDZS where wei wuxian killed lan xichen at nightless city, wei wuxian would probably be more hated by the readerbase. many more readers would consider wei wuxian's nightless city meltdown to be morally questionable, if not outright call his moral character into question for it--despite the fact that the actual morality of the nightless city scenario here has not changed from canon.
(as i said in my tags, this reasoning is also why jin zixuan cannot be allowed to have the same amount of screentime or direct development as other characters.)
the point here is that--regardless of the actual morality of the situation, regardless of whether the killed victim actually "had it coming" or not, regardless of whether the killer is actually blameless or not--the audience's reaction to the scenario changes on who in the situation is given a human face--and anyone can be given or denied a human face. who is allowed to have non-asshole normal human traits, versus who is relegated to the role of one-dimensional asshole. and--if you want your readers to think of your killer protagonist as a hero, the more humanity you give the people he killed, the higher the risk that your readers do not come to your intended conclusion.
MXTX does not take this risk in MDZS. instead, she employs the rhetorical trick of casting many of wei wuxian's background-character victims as one-dimensional angry assholes who are easy to write off. these asshole victims are all human beings who must logically experience non-rage human emotions, who must logically have people they love, who must logically weep at the graves of their dead parents as all humans would--but we will never see that in MDZS canon.
the thing is, not every work of fiction out there employs this degree of rhetorical trick. a song of ice and fire does not do this. the sheer scale of brutality in ASOIAF is possible because george r r martin knows how to lend a background-character victim humanity with only a few sentences, even if said background character is being killed by a "heroic" character. attack on titan, despite all its questionable themes, also does not do this. isayama goes out of his way to humanize the background characters killed by AOT's protagonists, whether or not those killings are considered "justified" by AOT's narrative. the children's show avatar the last airbender, in which the protagonists don't even kill anyone, deliberately includes scenes of the fire nation enemy soldiers fooling around and being humans, even when it would have been much easier for ATLA to just make them faceless mooks. once you've seen any of these genre fictions, the comparatively simplistic way in which MDZS treats its background characters becomes much more obvious.
in my opinion, a ballsier writer in MXTX's position would have included those non-asshole scenes. they would have included the scene where mr. "you chopped off my leg" begs for alms on the streetside because he can't work as a cultivator with only one leg; they would have included the scene where mr. "you killed my parents" cries over the grave of his mom and dad. they would have included scenes of wei wuxian's various asshole victims behaving as any human beings would behave, even if it made the story uncomfortable.
and then, after having included these scenes, wei wuxian's retorts at the second siege of the burial mounds would go unchanged. they would go ahead and have wei wuxian say what he said in canon anyways: "in short, you can ambush me, but i can't fight back. is that right?"
and then they would have the narrative back wei wuxian up as correct.
that would have been ballsy. that would have been quite refreshing, actually. that would show their depiction of this scenario to be more objective, that they were not afraid of the possibility of the reader drawing different conclusions. that would lend weight to the thesis of "wei wuxian is ultimately a heroic person," because it would prove that the author had in fact considered all dimensions of the issue, instead of just the ones that make the protagonist look good, and come to their conclusion anyways.
MXTX isn't that author, though. MXTX chickened out.
(there's exactly one scene i can think of right now wherein MXTX actually didn't chicken out. it's the scene where, at the nightless city pledge conference, some young idiot shoots wei wuxian with an arrow. wei wuxian throws the arrow back and kills the young idiot, and the young idiot's younger brother cries out an anguished "哥!" that one plaintive cry lent both the young idiot and his younger brother humanity, making them more than just asshole victims. and given the importance of brotherhood in wei wuxian's own character arc and downfall, it was an excellent writing decision.)
MDZS and asshole victims: thoughts on the second siege of the burial mounds scene
this post is not about morality judgments. this post is about reader sympathies only.
one rather clever rhetorical trick MDZS employs is putting all the more background "surviving victims of wei wuxian's actions" into one big angry mob at the second siege of the burial mounds, instead of letting them crop up anywhere else in the story. it's easy for a first-time reader to write off the guy who lost a leg at nightless city, or the guy whose parents died at nightless city, because both of those guys are being dicks. they're part of an angry mob baying for wei wuxian's blood--unfairly baying for wei wuxian's blood, because this time he didn't even do the thing they're saying he did. by putting these two victims into a mob of not just fellow victims but also unaffected individuals (ie. sect leader yao, who just showed up for kicks), the story can effectively equate these victims' grievances (ie. "you killed my parents") with unreasonable mob rule--even if these two things might not actually be equivalent.
the effect of this rhetorical trick, then, is that the reader can at once perceive the themes about mob mentality MXTX wishes to convey, and also effectively write off the victims' complaints. "yes, i did that to you, but i literally died already, what more do you want me to do? shall i walk on my knees repenting?" becomes easier for the reader to accept. and more importantly--wei wuxian's likability as a moral and just protagonist is not impacted.
ngl tho. it would be a bit more difficult for the reader to write off these victims' complaints if, instead of meeting said victims in an angry mob, the reader instead met these victims almost anywhere else. imagine if, instead of meeting mr. "you killed my parents" at the second siege of the burial mounds, we instead met him getting smashed at the local bar and crying about how his parents are dead. imagine if, instead of meeting mr. "you chopped off my leg" as a member of an angry mob, we instead met him begging for alms on the side of the road because his disability rendered him unable to work in a wuxia-esque setting. or imagine--if either of these background characters, overcome with survivor's guilt and trauma from nightless city, hung himself in his bedroom, and the next day his body was discovered by his 15-year-old daughter.
all of these scenarios are entirely plausible. you could easily include any of them into the story without changing the main plot at all. but suddenly shit just got a lot more depressing.
however, no such scene would ever be included in MDZS. the reason is that, as a work of fiction, MDZS's single most ardent goal is for us the readers to conclude not just that "we like wei wuxian as a character," but also that "wei wuxian is ultimately a morally righteous person." when the narrative focus shifts onto the people who were actually helped by wei wuxian's actions (mianmian and her family, lan sizhui, the few months of dignity the wen remnants were afforded) this becomes much easier for us to conclude; wei wuxian does indeed look like a hero. but the more narrative focus is given to the negative impacts of wei wuxian's actions--the more the "victims of wei wuxian" (whether actual victims or not) are given a face, instead of abstracted away by broad summaries--the more the reader might side-eye wei wuxian instead. every new victim given a name, given narrative attention that isn't just focused on making them look like an asshole, arouses the reader's sympathies in the opposite direction--and thus increases the risk that the reader might ultimately disagree with the novel's conclusion of "wei wuxian is a righteous person."
tbh, this does not seem like a risk MXTX particularly wants to take. instead, she's mastered the art of writing Asshole Victims.
which is an entirely valid writing decision, because imo basically every work of genre fiction out there does this to some extent.

Considering the amount of emotional and moral nuance he managed to muster up immediately post Guanyin temple (despite having a terrible week and zero good role models) AND considering his front row seat to the dissection of Jiang Wanyin and Wei Wuxian’s downfall, I think that in a time travel fix-it, Jin Ling would actually be pretty successful at brute forcing yunmeng family therapy.
I mean he'd probably cry, but even that would be good! Because 1) modeling negative male emotions beside anger, and 2) Oh shit that’s shije’s kid we made Shije’s son cry, fuck, fuck! Bam! Instant high ground! Also he has the most authority of any second gen character by virtue of the fact that he could pull “DO YOU WANT MY MOM TO DIE??? BECAUSE YOU TWO ACTING LIKE MORONS IS WHAT GOT MY MOM KILLED! NOW SIT DOWN AND SPIT OUT ALL YOUR FUCKING SECRETS OR MY MOM WILL DIE AND I’LL BREAK YOUR LEGS!!” It would work! Tell me it wouldn't work!
Not to mention once he gets a few sect leader years under his belt, he might be the best person to manage a fix-it, in general. He's got perspective. He's got political training. Others might get too caught up on the specifics of the Wen remnants or the Ying Tiger Tally or Vengeance against One Person or Another — Jin Ling is critiquing the basic structure of how Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng are living their lives and he's getting away with it.
He would even be good at dealing with Jin Guangyao, the slipperiest motherfucker in the timeline. Jin Ling's got as good a handle as anyone on his motivations, and he has sincere (if messy) affection for him, which would hit Guangyao right in his weak spot. Depending on your headcanons it may or may not be in vain, but he's got a real chance of getting the man to set some more modest and less destructive life goals.
Similarly, I think he'd do a pretty decent job at a harsh-but-fair critique of Xichen's neutrality and Mingue's rigidity and Huissang's delibrate uselessness, though getting them to listen would be more of a crapshoot.
All of this makes it especially funny how badly he would handle Wangxian.
For context: Wei Ying and Hunguang-jun are not just the gayest people Jin Ling has ever met, they are the gayest people he's ever HEARD of.
He wouldn't want to bring it up. He wouldn't mean to. He doesn't want to talk about it. But when he inevitably calls Wei Ying a slur only to be met with genuine bafflement? Jin Ling would completely lose his shit.
Because I don't think Wei Ying is going to get offended, or defensive, or have a response that his nephew could coherently mock. Wei Wuxian thinks 'hey these time traveling guys are actually pretty funny!' Him and Whom? Not even a serious topic of contention. You got me for a second, haha.
Jin Ling would break. Wei Ying eventually says something the effect of "I'm straight? Obviously?" and Jin Ling would nod once, start screaming, then climb across the table to strangle him.
It's — look. How do you fucking explain that all of the worst moments of your life were, in someway or another, characterized by Wei Wuxian and Lan Wanjii being FLAMBOYANTLY into one another.
The man who saved his life also killed his father and Jin Ling stabs him but it feels awful and — ok Lan Wanjii is cradling Wei Wuxian tenderly. Ok they're just going to go. They're leaving like that. Hunguang Jun was — is — was the Yiling Patriarch's widow, so that's another layer to add onto everything else. Hunguang-Jun is visibly expressing emotions with his face and voice and Jin Ling is going to go throw up now
Jin Ling's kidnapped at the burial mounds and everyone’s lost their spiritual energy and all his friends and family are going to die and — those two are smiling at eachother. They're telling inside jokes. They're holding hands.
Jin disciples (his own clans disciples) just shot at him and and Xiao-shushu really is what people sa— WEI YING SHOUTS ABOUT WANTING TO FUCK LAN WANJII
THEY ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF BEING KIDNAPPED AND HE DOES THIS
Jujiu is bleeding from the stomach and crying he's bleeding and crying his jujiu is doing that and Xiao-shushu caused it and his whole life is a lie and Hunguang Jun and the Yiling Patriarch are visibly groping in a corner.
And then they never stop groping again. Forever.
So yeah, I'm quite confident that if Jin Ling had to be even peripherally involved with coaching Wei Wuxian through a bisexual awakening and homoerotic courtship, he would explode. He would black out with rage. He'd make an honest and embarrassingly unsuccessful attempt at killing Lan Zhan. He would walk into a lotus pond and stay there until he drowned. He'd start heavy drinking. He'd punch a random passerby in the dick.
In conclusion, Need More Jin Ling Time Travel Fics

Wei Wuxian goes to the hospital at some point (he’s fine though) and Lan Sizhui finds a way to invite LWJ into his life after breaking a gift he gave him. I can follow up with more details if needed! The author was trying to write about a-yuan not immediately warming up to wangxian getting together! Thank you so much for all your hard work!

JC hides his body at lotus pier, but everyone thinks he's dead. idk how he wakes, but there's still the 13 year gap where everyone still thinks he's dead. sorry this is so vague, tysm in advance!!!
from the 1/27 fic finder: #2 isnt the fic im looking for, but thanks for helping out! the fic wasn’t a dark, anti-JC fic, but very much a JC loves his brother ofc hes gonna do whatever it takes to keep him alive. LWJ def thinks hes dead tho

3. Hi! I'm looking for a fic that I'm pretty sure has been asked for in the past, that has been likely deleted, I know someone had the pdf but I can't find the post or the pdf anymore so I'm here–
I'm looking for a fic where modern wwx receives a book from baoshan sanren that tells the story of yllz wwx. Modern wwx reads a ritual and ends up in the past with everyone while past yllz ends up in the future. If I'm correct it's a two fic series, with the second one being incomplete where yllz goes to the future.
I also remember that modern wwx gathered people from each clan and talked about the future that he knows. I know that at one point he talks about his family (lz and sizhui). There's also a madam yu redemption, and at one point modern wwx calls fengmian dad? PLS HELP ME FIND IT @dollettw
FOUND! bluekittenfire said: #3 This should be the deleted "Loving Future, Distant Past" by yareyarejojosan. I have a copy of it and the second fic "I am loved".

4. Hello!! I'm looking for a modern AU - what I remember is Lan Zhan seeing Wei Ying on tv and, like, knowing he is The One in a mystical way - I want to say that the process was called The Call or something, as in 'he heard The Call and knew WWX was his soulmate'. I think WWX was oblivious to this for Reasons (par for the course) - not sure if it was A/B/O but had something of that vibe! @stackingturtles
~*~
5. hiiii im looking for this fic where lwj's mom is some kind of heavenly official and before she escapes her husband to return to heaven, she gives lwj a magical robe (or somethijng like that) that holds images of his memories, and every time something major happens an image/symbol of that appears on his cape @ashxi-wx
FOUND? One for Heaven and Earth by cerbykerby (T, 7k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Supernatural Elements, Angst with a Happy Ending, Madam Lán Lives, inspired by wangxian selkie au, Getting Together) Mama Lan was a celestial maiden though, not a heavenly official.
~*~
6. This is for fic finder btw. First thank you who ever runs this account. In the fic I’m looking for wei ying isn’t dead and is alive for Lan Zhans whipping/ punishment and he hears what’s happening and tries to stop it but Lan Zhang uncle just says to beat Wei Ying to (I think he was like really injured not sure tho). Then one of them ( whoever’s POV it was blacks out). There is a chance this was an omegaverse fic but idk. Thanks again your like gods 🙏🙏
~*~
7. Ello! Looking for a lwj-centric fic that I forgot the name of (。ŏ﹏ŏ) Pretty sure this is an au where wwx is adopted by the lans, and wwx teaches the lan disciples about talismans. The thing I most remember about it is lwj being named rivals with su minshan and jiang cheng for the attentions of wwx. Wwx is also probably older? Thanks so much in advance!
FOUND?🔒As Years Pass Us By by Loqui (T, 32k, WIP, WangXian, WWX Isn't Adopted by the Jiangs, Age Difference, Younger LWJ, Older WWX, LWJ Has Feelings, Pining LWJ, Introspective LWJ, Canon Divergence, Fluff and Humor, Slow Burn, very light, Light Angst, WWX is a Lan, POV LWJ)

10. For fic finder
Does anyone have that fic where WWX gets turned into a woman post canon, he and LWJ decide to try for a kid, it doesnt work at first, when it happens LWJ thinks WWX doesnt want one anymore and tries to apologize for asking him to keep it?
WWX was fine with having the baby by the way, thinking he didn’t was because during the time it didn’t work they assumed it wasn’t possible and he decided he wasn’t going to dwell and make himself upset wondering why it didn’t happen
FOUND! In Sickness and In Health (And In Strange and Unexpected Times Too) by purplemonster (E, 28k, WangXian, Fem WWX, Mpreg, well technically not mpreg since he's a woman, Fluff and Smut, also I know I know I ticked the m/m box because it is wangxian)

11. hello, i'm looking for an au where cultivators choose their secondary gender after "trying out" each one. Wwx decided on beta and LWJ omega. NHS was agender. At one point, LWJ is threatened/almost forced to permanently pick the wrong assignation for some reason. This fic was not the one by everythingispoetry, though there are similarities to their fic. Ty for your help!

12. I've been looking for this fic for years now but I do remember the premise it's an postcanon AU?? where in a bid to stabilize the power WWX was betrothed to Lan Xichen and LWJ was not so happy abt the whole thing (I scoured my history and all but I cant find it)

13. Wondering about the identity of a fic that I remember only one little scene from. LWJ was visiting Lotus Pier and decided to drink about all his pining. While drunk, he demonstrated his feelings to WWX by removing the strings from his guqin and saying "Wangji without Wei Ying". Hopefully this will ring bells for someone. Thank you! 🐇💙 @linderel

14. looking for a fic! canon era/setting with a bad ending, where wx are ayuan's biological parents. ayuan lives with wwx and the wens in the burial mounds. wwx dies either from the attack at qiongqi path, or in the burial mounds for some other reason. I rmb vividly a scene where wwx is buried in the burial mounds and ayuan cries and lies above the grave, saying that his mother is gone, in front of everyone else like the lans, jins, and nies.
FOUND! To Offer a Heart by WhiteCrane (M, 111k, WangXian, major character death, Sad WWX, Hurt WWX, YLLZ WWX, soft wangxian, Cinnamon Roll WN, WWX Whump, WQ is a good sister, WN is a good brother, everybody loves wwx, yunmeng siblings, Triggers, Suicidal Thoughts, Implied/Referenced Suicide, Fluff, Emotional Hurt/Comfort, Heavy Angst with a Happy Ending, Taking care of WWX, Give WWX a break, Canon Divergence, Disturbing Themes, Changing Perspectives, Eventual Smut, Eventual Romance, Grief/Mourning, Temporary Character Death, Getting Together, Redemption, Sibling Bonding, Marriage, Marriage Proposal, Brotherly Bonding, Brotherly Love, Brother-Sister Relationships, Parent-Child Relationship, Sad and Sweet, Tragedy, BAMF WWX, BAMF JC, BAMF JYL, BAMF WQ, Slow Burn, Slow Build, Everyone Needs A Hug, WIP) Is it possible #14 is mixing up two different fics? Because the bit about A-Yuan lying on WWX's grave in the Burial Mounds and crying about his mother sounds a lot like To Offer a Heart but he's not Wangxian's bio child in that. The bit where the visitors witness A-Yuan crying at the grave is in chapter 11.

15. 17. I'm looking for a story I thought I had saved: after canon, asexual WWX, married to LWJ, but in a female!MX body. They tried M/F sex, but both found it weird. WWX one day realizes that LWJ used to look at (old, male) WWX with lust, but no longer does. LWJ tells him he used to dream of bottoming for WWX. WWX wants to fulfil that dream for him, and (via NHS?) finds someone to create a wooden penis/harness. LWJ enjoys it a lot (WWX also likes being a service top essentially)
~*~
18. Hello! I'm looking for a complete fic on AO3 where Qin Su did the sacrifice ritual to bring back Wei Wuxian. He is now a woman. She left him a letter explaining why/what she wanted, and he has to keep up the act of being Qin Su for a little while until he can come up with an excuse to get out of Koi tower.
I don't remember what he was running around doing once he got out, but along the way he bumped into Lan Wangji, who is travelling with "Mo Xuanyu" investigating the demonic arm.Mo Xuanyu actually summoned Jin Zixuan using the ritual, though I don't remember if that was on purpose or if JZX was just the next best target with WWX already summoned. Because of Qin Su's letter to WWX (? They knew somehow), JZX knows that WWX is technically his sister now.
I don't remember much else apart from some minor stiff arguing on JZX end because LWJ is seducing his technical sister or something like that. He's not impressed/pleased. WWX is just as happy about being related to the peacock now. LWJ realises he is WWX-sexual. Yadda yadda.
Based on other fics I know I read around the same time, the publication/final update should be no later than 2022, but I might be wrong.
If this fic could be found, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance! @ramblebrambleamble
FOUND? The Tales of Despereaux by stiltonbasket (T, 53k, WIP, WangXian, LXC/NMJ, JC & WWX, JYL/JZX, JC/WQ, Canon Divergence, Additional Warnings In Author's Note, (when applicable), major ships are listed but others might pop up!) It's the first 23 chapters. Stilton's tumblr also has its masterlist

19. looking for a fic! i remember it was either someone needs to fight lwj and win(?) to get his hand in marriage, or he needed to give them an item like a token or smth. wwx is in an animal form of sorts i can't remember, and lwj freely gives the item to him while in animal form
FOUND? it’s you, it was always you by myung (G, 7k, WangXian, Bunny LWJ, Mutual Pining, Light angst, Based on Tumblr post) sounds like it's you, it was always you but Lan Zhan is the shapeshifter who gives Wei Ying his forehead ribbon while in rabbit form.
FOUND? heartkeeper by postingpebbles (G, 7k, WangXian, Animal Transformation, Canon Divergence, no war au, Shapeshifting, light convos abt the jiang family dynamic, WWX draws a lot and talks to a rabbit: the fic, Fantasy, Mojo's bookmark, heartkeeper [podfic] by esbielle) Lwj is a rabbit with a chain with a key to hanguang-jun’s heart

Happy Pride! Can I get some trans content<3

He can’t be pregnant.
The curse mark on his arm tells him that he is living in this body on limited time. Eventually, he will die, the string keeping him inside Mo Xuanyu’s body snapping like a string and sending him back to wherever she summoned him from.
He’d let himself forget, a little. The body he inhabits is so different than the one he woke up in. He’s made her stronger, grown her golden core into a fearsome thing, worked and worked muscles until they swelled and hardened.
It had begun to feel like it belonged to him, liked he’d carved his body from Mo Xuanyu’s. The differences from his old body hadn’t felt important, and still don’t, it’s about how this is the body he worked for and made from the one given to him.
But Mo Xuanyu is dead and her body isn’t his to keep.
If he wants to have this baby, then he must betray Mo Xuanyu and her sacrifice. If he wants to bring Lan Zhan’s baby into the world, he cannot kill Jin Guangshan.
Completing the mission she retrieved him for will sever the connection and he will die again and so will the life he’s growing.
His only hope is that maybe, maybe the thread binding him here will hold long enough for him to both deliver this child and kill Jin Guangshan.
He looks from Jiang Yanli to Jiang Cheng, their fierceness and determination the closest he’s felt to home in a long time. He shouldn’t be letting them do this, shouldn’t be sinking into the comfort of their protectiveness when they think he’s someone he’s not, but he can’t help it. It makes him feel even sadder for Xuanyu, to think that they would have done this for her, if only she’d let them. Hadn’t Jiang Yanli reached out to him that very first day while he was a confused and terrified mess? And here she is now, offering to shield him from his husband, offering to help Mo Xuanyu choose her own path and either continue the pregnancy or have it end here.
He takes a deep breath, trying to stem the flow of his tears. Jiang Cheng’s hands on his shoulders feel like the only thing keeping him in place, like he’s pressing Wei Wuxian’s spirit into place in Xuanyu’s body.
He presses a hand against his stomach, thinking of the life shifting in his womb as the first lotuses that had sprouted from muddy mountainside. If he could grow flowers in the burial mounds, he can grow a child in a borrowed body.
But does he want to?
This isn’t what he’s here for. The best case scenario is that he leaves Lan Zhan behind to raise a child alone, the husband and child of the woman who murdered a clan leader. The worst case is he leaves Lan Zhan behind to mourn a wife and child and he dies without avenging the wrongs done against Mo Xuanyu. Or he can end this here, remove the potential child from the equation and kill Jin Guangshan as subtly as possible, something he has the time to arrange when he isn’t pushing his connection to this world to the brink. Then Lan Zhan will only be the widower rather than the husband of a murderer.
There are no good choices.
But he’s used to that.
He breathes in, holding it at the top of his lungs and letting out slowly.
A-Yuan had been the brightest light in the burial mounds. Anytime he wavered, aching for the life and the people he left behind, it wasn’t Wen Qing or Wen Ning of Granny who hardened his resolve once more, but A-Yuan.
He’d loved being a parent. He’d wished he really could grow siblings for A-Yuan like he’d grown turnips.
Wei Wuxian’s legacy is one of failure, of loss, of destruction. All those he tried to protect fell. All those he had protected turned against him. The last thing he will do on this earth is kill again, even if it is a man who has earned it.
He does not want to leave behind a legacy of only terrible things.
It could all end horribly. But he’s always been foolish enough to hope for better than he has.
He finally meets Jiang Cheng’s steady gaze.
“I’ll talk to Wangji.”

hello!!! First I love love love your stories. I have read pretty much all of them and my faves like 10x. I’m currently obsessed with Concord, which I’ve read at least 20-30x times in the last few months. I really, really love the angst in Concord—the pain is so deep and real and felt, but they aren’t trying to be cruel to each other. I wonder if you have any recs for fics that feel the same way to you? Or fics that inspired you? I love good angst and would love any recs from you. No pressure and if you can’t think of anything but come up with something in six months, it’s an always open ask :) thank you again for sharing your writing with us. HNY!
Thank you so, so much for the kind words, and for the ask! I love the opportunity to rec some of my angsty favorites. 😄 (I'm keeping this to just The Untamed/MDZS but lmk if you want other fandoms as well.)
The Right to Care by @travelingneuritis: you cannot go wrong with any of travelingneuritis's work (shoutout also to when the sun goes out and In Imitation of Life), but this fic in particular has those Concord-esque "the relationship is the plot" and "everyone is trying and everything still hurts" aspects. It's a modern AU where, as the summary has it, "Rising young musician Lan Zhan and underpaid babysitter Wei Ying fall for each other hard." Also check out pentimento by orange_crushed - very similar vibes.
Discomfort, Revisited by @existentially-yibo: another great angsty modern AU, with a super cool flashback structure (and, bonus, great Chicago sense of place) and a Wei Ying who believes his whole life should be about other people.
keraunography by spookykingdomstarlight: a Pacific Rim fusion, also with a cool flashback structure, really brutally angsty with Lan Wangji and Wei Wuxian each blaming himself for the horrible thing that tore them apart.
half agony, half hope by @queenklu: a Persuasion AU, with all the smothered yearning and long-nursed emotional wounds that a Persuasion AU should rightfully have. "Five years after their broken engagement, now widowed with a child, Wei Wuxian must navigate the re-entry of Captain Lan Wangji into his life." Sticks the landing, too, after more than 100,000 words, which is NOT easy to do.
the lantern by the door by Lirelyn: modern AU zhanchengxian, which, you know, if you want really juicy angst, that is a ship that's hard to beat. Lan Zhan and Jiang Cheng figure out how to make their rough edges fit together after Wei Ying dies--and then each assume, when he turns out to be alive, that the other person will choose him over them. Outstanding. (shoutout also to this author's say it's here where our pieces fall into place, a wangxian kidfic modern AU that hurts sooooo good)
These Things Stay the Same by notevenyou: Modern AU where WWX is in a train crash after switching seats with Mo Xuanyu - WWX survives in a coma but everyone, including Lan Wangji, thinks he's dead. After he wakes up, he tries to figure out if his loved ones' lives still have a place for him. (They do, but it's a painful process.)
Enjoy!!

i hate when people say jiang yanli has no personality. danmei authors (including mxtx) do have a poor track record with female characters but jiang yanli is NOT poorly written.
she's one of the few characters who speaks out against people far more powerful than her. whenever someone slanders wei wuxian (including her future in-laws!) or demands she stay away from him (yu ziyuan), jiang yanli defies them. she purposely chooses over and over to break those rules and expectations and cares for him, explicitly reminding everyone that wei wuxian is her brother.
jiang yanli is very powerless, both politically and in terms of cultivation, despite being the eldest daughter of a great sect. once she gets married to jin zixuan, her power diminishes even further, mirroring people like her mother and madam jin. unlike them, though, yanli chooses to do good wherever she can.
her showing up at nightless city may read as stupid, but it's one last act of defiance. she's a symbol at that point, the poor newlywed widow (with a baby!) who treated wei wuxian like family, only to be repaid this way... jiang yanli is still upper class, so her actions will be retroactively justified. the new spin is that it's wei wuxian's fault. evil demonic cultivator, son of a servant, took advantage of her kindness... they twist the sibling relationship to justify their political goals of murdering wei wuxian.
jiang yanli is not a fighter, she wasn't meant to be there, and the fact that she STILL defied everyone's expectations to be present is the point. she's the ONLY person at nightless city who was there purely to talk to wei wuxian again instead of to fight, capture, or kill him.
jiang yanli ultimately dies not because of wei wuxian, but because the people who are most willing to stand up against injustice are those most powerless. because those most powerless are most vulnerable to systematic violence. because they are often most easily twisted to suit the agendas of the politically powerful.

Hi....! If you don't mind, can I ask, who are your top 7 favorite romantic relationship's couples in books/ manga/ anime/movies/tv series (can be canon or non-canon) and your top 10 favorite characters ever from any media? Why do you love them all? Thanks if you want to answer....
Top seven?... Before SVSSS I wasn't really into ships, if there was a fic with a ship I didn't mind and could enjoy it but I didn't specifically seek out ships.
Most of the dynamics I enjoy I personally don't have a preference for whether they're portrayed as platonic, romantic or some sort of queer platonic, because it's the chemistry between the characters that compels me, not the spark of romance. There are only three ships that I cannot conceive of in a platonic capacity which are:
Hualian (it's HUALIAN, I don't know what to say)
Wangxian (It was never platonic to begin with)
Agathario ("Congratulations my love" "Please my love" NEED I SAY MORE???)
For svsss specifically I can't say there's a ship I prefer over another, they're all incredibly compelling and entertaining, and I don't think there's a ship I dislike.
Bingqiu, Liushen, Jiuyuan, Qijiu, Zhushen etc etc etc are all gorgeous
Sorry, not much of a shipper😅
Favourite characters?
Hmmm
Zhuzhi-lang captured my heart, (loyal snake boy, love himmmmmm so so so so much. We are not talking about the extras because I WILL CRY. I WAS DEVASTATED I AM DEVASTATED FOREVER)
Loki, but specifically the fanon Loki that existed in the Thor to Avengers era, though I've enjoyed all types and did enjoy the show. (Loki fandom was the first fandom I was ever in, and was formative to my young years, and so he's more than earned his spot)
Murderbot (I find MB as a protagonist relatable and so, so, very funny.)
ART (from the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells) (I love the dynamic between ART and MB, it makes me so happy)
Three (Also from the Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells)(What's not to like about Three? I feel like I get cuteness aggression whenever Three does something)
Wu Zetian from Xiran Jay Zhao's Iron Widow (iconic)
Edward Elric (the whump is pre installed!)
Greed (From Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)(he's just a cunty little dude who made a gangfamily )
Wei Wuxian (smart, loyal, dedicated etc, Yunmeng trio feels, wen siblings+Wuxian feels all the feels)
And finally.
Shen Qingqiu (which one you may ask? Both. This is a two-for-one) (is he unbearably elegant and cold? Is he a bitch? Is he a nerd? Yes to all these things, and another relatable character)
hope this was satisfactory, thank you for the ask!

Divorce? Never!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/46814080
So I had this idea and wasn't sure which pairings etc would work well with it but ex-chengxian and zhancheng seems to be good maybe so like au where the law is that if you divorce your spouse you cannot remarry them until they've married another... if they become divorced/widowed from this new spouse, *then* if you want to rekindle a relationship with them you can get married to them again because divorce is allowed but a past emperor thought that some people were marrying and divorcing too frivolously and not taking marriage seriously so they put this rule into place so that people would think before making hasty decisions.
Now of course the new marriage has to be real.. a real relationship.. if the court finds out that you're marrying and divorcing just as a way to get the second marriage out of the way to get back with your first spouse you will be arrested. Of course there were still some shady dealings but the law generally made it difficult for people to actually go through with these kinds of plans. Only one half of the couple needed to remarry not both, just to show that they tried to move on.
Of course you could still get back together after a divorce, you simply would not be able to marry and would just have to be without that status, which was very frowned upon by the society. Some people did just live together but it wasn't an easy thing socially speaking as it was a sign that you were a frivolous person who divorced your spouse for petty reasons and it just made u seem like u had bad character so people would look down on you. And for the most part it worked. People who considered marriage did it seriously, and divorce as well.
Of course every society has people who do things in haste and anger so there were definitely those who didn't think things through and later regretted it. So I'm thinking maybe chengxian are together and they're childhood sweethearts but Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng have been arguing lately and couldn't agree on certain decisions... Wei Wuxian in the heat of the moment said something really really stupid-- that maybe they should just divorce and do things their own way.
Jiang Cheng, hurt, agreed.
Wei Wuxian of course regrets it. He regrets it so much.
But Jiang Cheng refused to be married to someone who didn't want him. He promised himself he wouldn't become his mother. So he goes through with the divorce because just the fact that Wei Wuxian brought it up really hurt him and caused him to lose trust and faith in their relationship.
Wei Wuxian was confident that he could win Jiang Cheng back... but he wouldn't get the chance to he knew because Jiang Cheng would *never* put himself in a cohabiting situation after the divorce to have people look down on him and treat him poorly, and Wei Wuxian wouldn't want that for him either.
Enter Lan Wangji Now I can't decide how I want this to go. We could have a few dif scenarios here. Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji are good friends and Wei Wuxian begs Lan Wangji to help him. He could court Jiang Cheng and marry him and because Wei Wuxian didn't want Jiang Cheng's heart to be too badly hurt, Lan Wangji could divorce him later with the excuse of being Wei Wuxian's friend and feeling so guilty that he 'stole' him from Wei Wuxian when he knew how much Wei Wuxian still loved Jiang Cheng. This was so Jiang Cheng wouldn't feel like he was the problem. Wei Wuxian definitely learned the hard way and he really didn't want to hurt Jiang Cheng, he loved him.
So when they got divorced Wei Wuxian could beg Jiang Cheng for another chance. (And of course Lan Wangji would talk up how much Wei Wuxian regretted what he did and how much he cared for Jiang Cheng) OR Lan Wangji who is in love with Wei Wuxian and wants to marry *him* but he knows Wei Wuxian is still in love with Jiang Cheng. Lan Wangji isn't a bad guy and he just wants Wei Wuxian to be happy, even if it's not with him. He and Wei Wuxian are friends and Wei Wuxian of course cried to him all about his regrets etc So he volunteers to woo & marry Jiang Cheng and divorce him after a bit so that Wei Wuxian could remarry him.
The problem? He falls in love with Jiang Cheng.
In either scenario Lan Wangji falls for Jiang Cheng and... well.. he doesn't *want* to divorce him. This has the potential for drama because both Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng feel betrayed by Lan Wangji once this comes out. Wei Wuxian will confront Lan Wangji because when are you going to divorce him?! Lan Wangji keeps stalling somehow Jiang Cheng finds out.. maybe he overhears their conversation or maybe Wei Wuxian in a fit of anger at Lan Wangji for having Jiang Cheng's love now, tells Jiang Cheng everything
Jiang Cheng of course is doubly heartbroken and betrayed because he can't believe that Wei Wuxian would actually have someone else make him fall in love with them and marry them only to divorce him just to let him be with Wei Wuxian (yes Wei Wuxian loves him but it's selfish of him not to consider that Jiang Cheng would be heartbroken at a second divorce no matter how amicable because for Jiang Cheng to get married in the first place to another person meant he would have had to love them dearly and of course he'd have moved on from Wei Wuxian by then to this new person so no guarantee he'd go back to Wei Wuxian at all).
And of course he's more hurt by Lan Wangji who he was now in love with because it meant that Lan Wangji approached him with ulterior motives and if the relationship started on a lie then how could Jiang Cheng believe any of Lan Wangji's feelings were real? From the beginning Lan Wangji had no intention of being with Jiang Cheng He was just stringing Jiang Cheng along and faking everything to get Jiang Cheng to agree to marry him. Jiang Cheng is crushed. But Lan Wangji refuses to divorce him. He would not make the same mistake as Wei Wuxian and let Jiang Cheng go. Jiang Cheng was rightfully upset with him but Lan Wangji was willing to grovel as long as it took.
Even if Wei Wuxian was angry with Lan Wangji, Lan Wangji couldn't help himself. He knew Wei Wuxian loved Jiang Cheng but... well he did now too. If it's the first scenario where they're just friends, maybe Lan Wangji decides Jiang Cheng is more important than Wei Wuxian but Lan Wangji is still his friend so he tries to convince Wei Wuxian that he and Jiang Cheng divorced for a reason and that Wei Wuxian was just accustomed to Jiang Cheng being around his entire life and needed to put himself out there and find someone to love that wasn't just partially because of familiarity. Wei Wuxian of course is pissed at Lan Wangji anyway and still heartbroken
He really and truly lost Jiang Cheng. Not only was Jiang Cheng now married to Lan Wangji who was refusing to divorce him so there was no chance of remarrying him, but Jiang Cheng was also really hurt that Wei Wuxian would go behind his back and scheme. He felt Wei Wuxian had been selfish... if Wei Wuxian had been honest and tried to win Jiang Cheng back, then if Wei Wuxian's efforts had been sincere and Jiang Cheng gave him another chance, the marriage issue could have been resolved by both of them agreeing to Lan Wangji's help. But Wei Wuxian hadn't done that, he and Lan Wangji had played Jiang Cheng for a fool in Jiang Cheng's eyes.
And so Wei Wuxian had lost Jiang Cheng and he'd also lost a friendship with Lan Wangji because Lan Wangji had agreed to help him but instead had stolen Jiang Cheng from him. Even if Jiang Cheng was mad at Lan Wangji, Jiang Cheng was more hurt and Wei Wuxian knew it was because Jiang Cheng really loved him, so if Lan Wangji grovelled enough he was sure Jiang Cheng would accept him Maybe Wei Wuxian goes out to drown his sorrows and ends up crying alone in a corner... he wakes up the next morning in a bed that he didn't recognise and high key panicked because he did not remember going home with anyone!
"Calm down, nothing happened," said a very amused voice.
The man had watched him flail around in confusion and panic and thought it adorable and hilarious but put him out of his misery anyway because it wasn't nice to scare him like that. Wei Wuxian looked over to see a huge, muscled dude with a grin on his face. 'Whoa' he thought, 'Hot'.
"Uh.. what am I doing here? And no offense but, who are you?"
"Nie Mingjue," came the response alongside another grin, and oh my were those dimples? "And as to why you're here.. you had a little too much and were crying all alone. I wanted to make sure you were okay and you basically spilled your life story. You passed out after a while and well I didn't know what else to do but to take you home and let you rest. Your phone was locked so I couldn't call anyone to come get you. I apologise but I didn't really have a choice at the moment."
"Oh." Wei Wuxian felt embarrassed that this man saw his sorry state. "You must think I'm pathetic." He hid his face in his hands sorrowfully.
"No. Maybe you made some mistakes but we all do, especially when emotions are involved. It's not pathetic."
Wei Wuxian strangely felt a bit better. Nie Mingjue was just really good at big brothering someone-- though he could tell from the looks he was getting as he made breakfast that this one definitely didn't see him as a brother. Well, that was ok. He might have red puffy eyes but when he smiled Wei Wuxian was breathtaking. Nie Mingjue would like very much to make him smile. Though not just yet of course, he was still getting over his ex.
But Nie Mingjue was a patient man. He could wait.
Of course Jiang Cheng and Lan Wangji would eventually work things out because never let it be said that Lan Wangji wasn't good at simping. Eventually his efforts got through to Jiang Cheng and they had a proper conversation and Jiang Cheng expressed how hurt he was while Lan Wangji talked about how he fell for Jiang Cheng very quickly and he knew that he'd have a hard time doing what Wei Wuxian had asked, and by the time their wedding came around he knew he wasn't going to go through with it at all. He apologised too for not considering Jiang Cheng's feelings when he and Wei Wuxian planned things and acknowledged it was foolish.
It may have started out as a way to help Wei Wuxian but for Lan Wangji it very soon became real and he didn't fake things with Jiang Cheng, even in the beginning he hadn't exactly lied to Jiang Cheng he had just tried to talk to him about things they had in common and to get to know him.
Once he convinced Jiang Cheng that it wasn't fake and his feelings were real, they were able to 'start over' on more honest ground and Lan Wangji took the opportunity to woo him again. They also managed to have a conversation with Wei Wuxian and to clear the air. Lan Wangji apologised to him as well because well, he really did betray Wei Wuxian in a way. And Wei Wuxian acknowledged it was immature and selfish of him to try and control Jiang Cheng's relationship status so that he'd get back with Wei Wuxian. The biggest surprise was when Wei Wuxian introduced them to his new boyfriend but it was a happy surprise, they were glad for him.
Of course if it's the second scenario where Lan Wangji was in love with Wei Wuxian and volunteered himself to marry Jiang Cheng so Wei Wuxian could have him back because he wanted to see Wei Wuxian happy.. aka he was doing it all for Wei Wuxian without regard for Jiang Cheng up until he went and fell for Jiang Cheng himself... it'd be a little more complicated. ie. Jiang Cheng would be even more hurt i think in this scenario because if Lan Wangji was in love with Wei Wuxian then how could he love Jiang Cheng?
Still Lan Wangji would refuse to divorce him but he would be struggling because he loved Jiang Cheng and he knew he messed up big time but he also loved Wei Wuxian and he messed up on that front too because one he wasn't going to divorce Jiang Cheng but two he still loved Wei Wuxian as well so he didn't want to see Wei Wuxian hurt but Wei Wuxian felt hurt and betrayed by him. Of course this could become zhanchengxian if they all manage to work things out.
