reading the ‘autobiography of James T Kirk’ rn (AMAZING book love his characterization and how the authors use his ‘voice’ essentially very nice) and he describes his childhood as a lot of time spent in a idealistic sort of crafted environment on his family farm with his brother and how he always felt safe and loved it there and how his brother was always very logical and withdrawn and his mother left to do space work and his father was just cold and distant and anyways got me thinking abt how when Kirk went through all this shit (amazing book, have I mentioned that already? Here it is again.) so anyways all of this got me thinking that when Kirk went to space and went on his first 5 year mission he was probably naturally drawn to Spock’s coldness and harsh nature and it probably felt very homey and comfortable for him which is also why he navigates it so well and can read Spock so well and also and also and also and also erm getting my phd in devastating yaoi studies rn

sexy himbo jock interpretations of James Tiberius Kirk are silly and do a disservice to the character for a lot of reasons, not least of which is that it fundamentally ignores all the times in canon when Kirk is faced with a scientific discovery or oddity and you can see the effort it takes for him not to clap and skip with excitement. like in ‘the devil in the dark’ when Spock posits that they might be dealing with a silicon based life form and McCoy’s like “but that’s impossible!” and Kirk literally crosses the room to flirt talk excitedly with Spock about the prospect and how it could work! and what it would mean!

What I’m saying is, Kirk’s gotta be smart and a huge dork because how else could he pull a bad autistic bitch like Spock?

It's honestly kind of funny to me that catapulting into Kirk/Spock shipping has launched my usual "meh, not into jealousy as a metric of romantic love" shipping tendency out the window and instead I'm genuinely charmed by the extent to which they reflect the same unhealthy seething jealousy.

This is most obvious with Spock, but you'll get McCoy joking about Spock falling in love with a computer (not an android, a stationary computer) and McCoy being A Normal Guy Joking About His Friend Having a Hobby is immediately contrasted with Kirk's barely repressed jealousy (you can all but see him thinking "time to talk another computer to death" while McCoy just laughs at his own joke about it). Kirk gets more and more generally insecure until Spock publicly declares that, while he does like an efficient computer, Kirk is irreplaceable and he doesn't want to serve anyone or anything else, and Kirk looks like he's about to kiss him on the bridge.

(Kirk still talks the computer to death, btw, for plot reasons. But big "Edith Keeler must die" energy.)

I also enjoy Kirk's horror/outrage at Leila Kalomi and her obvious gloating over "taking" Spock from him in the docility sex pollen episode and Kirk's willingness to do or say anything to get Spock back vs Spock bleeding intensity throughout "Requiem for Methuselah" as Kirk falls in love with Rayna, then Spock numbly listening to McCoy's speech about how he can never understand the glories or agonies of romantic love triangles or passionate love before waiting for him to leave and then wiping Rayna from Kirk's mind. Just two bros who are totally normal about each other!

I've read a lot of opinions about what Kirk said and if the glasses just exist in some strange loop (instead of Kirk saying bullshit)

but what if

McCoy bought the glasses. Kirk then brought them back to the past and sold them. And now there are two pairs. The original one and the one that was brought from the future.

before TWOK, McCoy buys the original pair but some time after TVH, for Kirk's birthday, he finds the pair Kirk sold and buys it again. And so Kirk gets the glasses back. Happy end <3

fic wherein some of the TOS crew is being questioned by an entity who seems to think that the best way to take (and keep) control of the enterprise is to ensure Kirk's cooperation by figuring out which girl he's in love with and using her as collateral. i think theyre incredibly silly !! but also from a character design/shape language perspective the triumvirate is so terrific i keep nerding out whenever someone makes them Shaped as god intended.
