thinking about the superb character writing of tuca & bertie
#I’ve seen five episodes btw#this series has amazing emotional maturity#It lets the protagonists be in the wrong and the antagonists not be wholly evil#it also trusts the audience to use their critical thinking skills and figure out the full message themselves#the episode about Muriel in particular stood out to me#the message was “be forgiving to your younger self” and they spell this out explicitly#but if you pay attention it gets more specific than that and lays out WHY Bertie should forgive herself#this was a story of two deeply troubled children who (at that moment) had no support system except each other#and it’s so reasonable that neither of them handled that well

hey btw. edyn and gillion were both forced to grow up so fast that neither of them really had the chance to grow up at all. they both missed so many formative experiences but at different stages in their lives and that wholly informs everything about who they are NOW and I'm. edyn was eleven when gillion was taken by the elders. gillion was five. she never got to be a teenager, or even a pre-teen. she was too busy playing support for her little brother, because gods know nearly all the adults in the palace hated him. gillion never got to be a child. he was always just the chosen one, the champion, never the art kid that draws all over his work in class, or the sweet boy that drags everyone on the playground into some elaborate game during recess. neither of them ever got to grow up and it SHOWS and if I have to be emotional about it so do you

For the Dona AU, does anything change with the China Town episode with the spirit guy or the episode during the farmhouse arc with the demon car?
Also I know you’ve talked about how Karai and Leo feel about Donnie getting almost (from what I remember anyway) blown up but how does Splinter feel? Seeing his youngest daughter in such a critical state caused by his eldest daughter? Does bro get flashbacks to Tang Shen and the night of the fire? Or even flashbacks to his past relationship with his Shedder since they were brothers?
Also does Donnie ever feel like she has to live up to this ‘expectation’ that is/was Miwa before they find out about Karai? Does Donnie feel the need to be a good daughter or does she feel like a replacement or replaceable because of that or not? Idk I just thought about that.
I also keep thinking about how would Casey and Donnie end up together if they did and how the others would react? Like how would that play out if it does? What would be their dynamic?
I have been loving this btw and hope you are taking care of yourself

This is PART 1 of this Ask because PART 2 is really long so I decided to split them up so I can focus wholly on one of the two topics.

“Sensei!”
All of his sons cries overlap, panicked and high as their feet slap against the ground. He immediately notes the missing voice from their call, looking toward them as they slow to step down into the pit.
“My children,” He breathes as he turns to them, eyes widening as he watches them lower their sister to the ground. Raphael pants as he breaks away from her, looking towards him with a harsh panic, explanation coming in a chopped words, “Factory! Explosion!”
Splinter lets this sink in, scanning Michelangelo’s worried eyes as he supports her. Leonardo’s hand rests against her chest to track every breath and his eyes do not leave his sister.
There are burns along her head and arms. Agony painted along every ridge muscle and shallow breath. She is in pain, scrapped and bruised from debris, little bits of metal in her skin. His brain twists the sight before him, sprinkling little reminders that it had been wood that had fallen, metal that had caused the worst damage, blood that had soaked through the three scars forever embedded in his mind.
April shifts beside him and he recalls where he is. Nobody in his arms, a fire left long behind, and his daughter suffering before him.
He feels the urge to go her, pull her in his arms, demand to know what happened- but that did not help Tang Shen. It will not help her. “Take her to the dojo. I will prepare the healing mantras.”
Two of his sons obey. Leonardo does not move, calling after him. He’s a distraction, but something in his voice halts him anyway.
“It’s my fault.”
Splinter inhales, sharp. He now sees the guilt that he'd mistaken as sorrow, reprimand plastered to his tongue.
He will not release it. Not yet.
He waits for an explanation.
“Karai and I- we were taking down Shredder’s operations. I thought we could end this! I’m-” He looks to the side, eyes squeezed shut, before they drop to the floor. “I’m sorry.”
“Yoshi, Saki, please! You are brothers!”
“Go, Shen.”
Splinter exhales softly and turns away. He goes to the dojo and trusts that Leonardo will follow. It’s not until he nears the scrolls that he finds the right words. “I have always warned you of vengeance. What it could cause. What it can take from you. Your honor. Your sense.”
“Saki! This whole place is coming down!”
“Then we shall both perish here!”
“I am disappointed in you, Leonardo.” He pauses, looking at the scroll in his hand, before he lowers it. “But I am proud you had the courage to admit your wrongdoing. For many… It is not so simple.”
“You only dishonor yourself! Always jealous, always scheming, always filled with hate!”
“If I had told the others what I was up to, they never would have gone into that building.” Leonardo scans his expression as he stands, waiting for the verdict, too focused on the past.
Splinter redirects him. “It is right that you should feel pain for your mistakes. But it is one thing to regret bad decisions after they are made. A leader must foresee how bad decisions lead to bad results.”
“PLEASE! STOP!”
His son follows his gaze to his sister and then bows his head.
“I’m sorry, Sensei.”
“I am not the one who needs an apology.”
He steps away to let him think his words over and to focus on his sister, so that Leonardo will be able to give one. So that he will have the opportunity for forgiveness that Splinter never got to know.
The lair is too quiet. April volunteers to check up on his sons, eyes lingering on her friend before she resolutely turns to leave.
Splinter is grateful that she does, for not long after, Donatello stirs.
“My daughter,” he breaths, light flickering from his hands. He goes immediately to cup her face, searching glazed eyes for the light that may have been stolen by the fire. “You are safe. I am here.”
She blinks, rapid and confused, as tears track down to Splinter’s hand. She whimpers, hand clamping over his wrist. “Pap-aaaah!”
“Breathe,” He soothes as she cries out. She squeezes, hard, moisture falling to his fur. “I-It hurts! What- why- why doh-”
“You are injured.” He brushes her face. “Burned. But you are healing.”
She only stares through him, disoriented and scared, even while leaning into his hand. Another whimper shrivels in her throat.
His eyes water, without his want or consent. He has no reason to be upset. She is alive. She needs him to be strong. “Rest, my daughter. You will not know this same pain when you awaken.”
She tries to move, lifting her leg and dropping it, gasping in air when it touches the ground. Her cry is drowned by a whine and he wishes there was a way to take her pain and make it his own.
“Silly ninja. It is not a father’s job to take the pain, my Yoshi. Only to soothe it. Here, let me.”
“Sleep, precious one.” He whispers in the same way that he had years ago when days were long and little turtle hands refused to still. “Papa will not let the world move far without you.”
Her fear lulls, tempered by the gentle safety of the past, a tiny chirp sliding from her tongue. He gives her that moment of calm and then touches the pressure point to knock her out. He gently lays her back down on the mat, resuming the mantra with steady hands.
April comes in to stand on Donatello’s other side.
“They’re not in the lair.”
Splinter gives no response. She kneels down.
They stay by Donatello’s side.
"I thought I could make this about taking down Shredder's organization. But it's too much of a risk going after petty targets just to spite him. I promise, I will no longer go after Shredder's possessions. I'll go after Shredder himself."
The hope that had begun to flicker in his chest dies as Miwa removes her blade from its sheath. She does not look back, leaving them all in the wake of her promise, and Splinter finds his hand outstretched.
He does not know what to do. He does not know what to say.
She saw the price of revenge, and she's still choosing to move forward. How can he stop this? How can he make her see sense?
He doesn't get to decide. A blur of motion charges past.
"NO!"
He sees the impact when Leonardo collides with her. He grabs at the blade as she whirls in surprise, catching her wrist to avoid getting it caught between them. They fall backward, with her taking the blunt of their weight and Leonardo's fury holding them down.
"Leo!" All of his children cry out as Splinter moves to their side, pausing when he spots the fury in his glare. Not one of confusion or anger, but of fear and hurt and understanding, with a protective bite that promises no mercy while caught in sharp teeth.
"Are. You. INSANE?"
This cannot end well.
Splinter should intervene, but for once, he does not.
He motions for the others to stand down as well, watching his daughter's face flick between skin and scales, and lets Leonardo have his say. "We've done this before, Karai! YOU'VE done that before! You ran off to go face him and you got LOCKED UP! It took us MONTHS to get you out! Countless nights of risking our lives for YOU! And now you want to- what, do it all again?"
"I will not be alone this time!" She manages to shove him off, getting to her feet and stumbling away. Miwa looks back, towards Splinter, and he keeps his gaze cool, offering no protection. "I have the clan!"
"Shredder has faced down many armies and fought many battles." Splinter says. "But you would know that, my daughter."
She glares, "I'm doing what has to be done!"
"That's what you said about the warehouses." Leo stalks up to her. "That's what you said about the money. That's what you told me before you went to blow up some stupid factory as if your last mission didn't get your sister BLOWN UP."
"I didn't tell her to go in there-!"
"YOU PLANTED THE BOMBS!" Leonardo's scream cracks at the last word, fists shaking with the pain of almost losing a loved one, eyes clear with the knowledge of how such loss can impact a soul. He takes a heavy breath and the room holds it with him.
He looks at Splinter, and their father nods his encouragement.
"We are leaders." He declares, strong and pronounced. "We are born leaders of our clan, but also of a family. We were selfish and our siblings paid for it. Our ONLY little sister paid for it."
Their gazes travel to her. She is not watching the conversation, hands pressed over the sides of her head, entrapped in a steady hold by the youngest. Her eyes are not visible, squeezed shut in pain, and Splinter's heart aches to see it.
"I..." All attention travels to Miwa. "I never wanted her to be hurt."
"But she was." Leonardo holds his head high. "And instead of learning from it, you are repeating old mistakes. I thought better of you. I thought you'd be better than that Karai."
He turns away from her, steps as silent as the dojo as he travels back to his sister's side. He kneels next to Michelangelo, takes her hand, and wraps his other hand safely around it as she squeezes his fingers.
"I will not risk my family for you again." He says coolly, holding tight. The sound crosses the space with even volume. "If you choose to go alone, you will truly be alone. Do not count on me to bail you out."
"Leo..." She tries, but Splinter does not let her continue. "He is right."
She looks to him, defeat painting eyes that have seen more horrors than any child should know. "I have warned my children against walking into Saki's hands too many times. But I cannot stop them from making their own choices, anymore than I can stop you."
He takes a breath. "You act as if you have no choice. You act as if you are on your own. You are not. You are not alone anymore, Miwa. You are not bound by Saki's vices. You have a family that has fought long and hard for you to come home, and yet you would choose his anger over their love."
"Father." Her fists tighten. Her voice cracks. "He ruined my life."
"He ruined much on that faithful day," Splinter admits as he approaches her, gently cupping her face. He tries not to see Shen in her teary eyes. "But our lives are not yet over. He cannot take anything else from us if we do not let him. Leave his influence behind. Your mother... She would not want this for you."
"I don't-" She pulls her arms to her chest, closing her eyes to bow her head. "I don't know how."
"What do you think we're here for?" Raphael demands with a dismissive bat of his hand at the open air. "Decoration?"
"Let us help you." Splinter translates. "Let us teach you."
"C'mon sis." Michelangelo says, smile weak but genuine. "We deal with April and Dona every day. You'll be a piece of cake."
"Hey," A baffled April says at the same moment that Donatello weakly hits his plastron. Michelangelo laughs, Raphael snickers, and Leonardo shakes his head to hide his smile.
She pulls away, and Splinter lets her.
"Okay." Miwa announces with a smirk, though her confidence does not reach her eyes. "I'll try."
Splinter puts his hands on his cane and nods, "It is all we ask."

Definitely during her younger years. It’s one thing to be the adopted sons who don't comprehend depression and death knowing that he spends a decent amount of time mourning his daughter and wife.
It’s another to be an adopted daughter who doesn’t comprehend depression and death who’s watching him distance himself sometimes to mourn a different daughter that she’s never met when she’s standing right there.
Thankfully (from a Donnie-development POV), Miwa ‘never’ got the chance to grow up. So there isn’t actually any notes to take to fill her shoes and meet expectations. Whenever she actively tries to be like Tang Shen (as she understands her mom from his stories), it only seems to depress Splinter more.
On the day that Splinter gives them their weapons, she entirely expects to be given the one that was meant for Miwa. Then he hands her the bo staff and tells her that it’s perfect for her, and she doesn’t know what to think. It’s the first time that she’s completely confident that he sees Donatello instead of Miwa when he looks at her.
Whenever she needs a reminder of that, she looks to her staff.
By the time that she goes up to the surface, she’s grown to be comfortable in that part of her place in the family.
…And then they meet Karai.
Now, if this does revamp her worries about her place in the family, it’s never directly mentioned in any episodes. Donnie’s main issue with Karai is that she’s always let her imagination run away with her big sister’s image, drafting what Miwa would be like if she survived.
And Karai. Is not the person who Donnie imagined her to be.

Oh uh yeah btw, sorry im back cuz I'm not playing anything so I've been thinking... Just a funny thought I had but uh, the seats of the council of 4 are usually passed down in the family. Just technically speaking, the only family of the most hated hero of the Gate, aka Abdel Adrian who did claim a seat, are the other direct Bhaalspawn, aka Sarevok and Durge, by grace of all of them being half-siblings...
So. Just in theory, Durge has a claim to one of these seats. Technically speaking, if they chose to come out and reveal that they're a Bhaalspawn, Durge could manipulate their way into getting the seat back, and being wholly elevated to Patriar officially instead of just acting as haughty as one.
This would also allow them to influence politics even more directly and support Gortash, who needs to get the council on his side to be bestowed the title of Archduke. And also they're arrogant as fuck so like, it would fit.
Just. Huh. This is some real fuckery going on there. Not to mention another Duke is a straight up devil worshiper. And Portyr is a dunce anyway. And the political situation in the Gate during the last 10 years esp in the upper echelon is never really eluded to. Nor how exactly Lord Gortash became a lord.
What the fuck have these two been up to. Why can I see Gorty tryna push Durge to reclaim the seat and Durge actually considering it. They've been dealing with the Patriars anyway thx to the murder list.

I started making stimboards a while ago, granted I'm not the most frequently active even with a queue, but I greatly enjoy carefully crafting a board, digging up sources for gifs, ... still, I cant stop feeling a bit hurt that I get next to no notes on them. A single board easily takes me 30 minutes to 1 hour, and a recent one got 1 note. That's all. I was so proud of it, and now it feels like it was all in vain, despite the fun it was to assemble. I love seeing you on my dash btw, I love your gifs and boards. But yeah. Did it take you a while too to get a decent amount of notes / followers ? I try my best to use appropriate tags for reach. I dont even do super niche themes. And I tell myself to just keep at it, with enough time and effort I'll have some more followers too. Idk. I was just hoping for some words of encouragement if you can spare some lol
i 100% understand this frustration and i have a few questions for you.
firstly, is there any way you could send me a board of yours so i can see the tags and potentially give some advice about that? it's okay if you would rather not, i understand wanting to maintain anonymity.
secondly, if you did want to send your blog my way, i could potentially reblog some of your stuff and help you gain some traction.
now for some encouragement, i promise your work matters regardless of followers or notes or anything like that. the internet has a sinister way of making us feel as if the only way our work is important, even to ourselves, is if it gets lots of recognition and interactions and clicks. this is wholly false, and a dangerous mindset to get stuck in. (i'm still in it and i hate it. i work so hard to not care about notes but it is so hard, especially when you're raised by a critical voice when it comes to your art.)
i will always encourage you and anyone else to ignore the numbers. i know this is extremely hard to do, especially when you're just starting out and you want to make your work seen and be praised, but i promise it will help build healthy habits in regards to posting your work and not taking the fun or meaning out of it for yourself, because at the end of the day, making art should be for you and satisfy you first and foremost. i made the huge mistake of getting into the numbers game in regards to my work and i regret it every day, quite literally. and yes, it did take a long time for my boards and gifs to start gaining traction. i've had this blog since 2017, i have been making boards since...2019 i think, maybe 2018, and gifs since either late 2019 or 2020, i think, and i didn't start seeing major interactions (1k+ notes) for about two to three years.
if your work is fun and fulfilling to you; if it satisfies your creative nature in a way other things can't, please keep doing it. i promise it is worth it to make the art 100000% self indulgently rather than to rely on attention from others to progress.

I feel like I've felt genuinely hopeful about the state of things in the last week, which has been a trip y'all. I watched the Harris/Walz rally from Philly earlier and it made me feel so hopeful for the future actually. The fact that people are coalescing around this ticket, and are ready to come out to vote against tr*mp and his pr*ject 2025 weirdos gives me hope. For a minute there I was like, have I stepped into a time machine back to 2008????
For those of you who are not old enough to remember 2008, it was truly and wholly such a "you had to be there" moment. The hope, the optimism and the energy was off the charts because people were ready for a change that would dump dubya. I'm from Chicago (and I was living there in 2008), and the energy on the ground here was insane y'all, and I'm getting shades of that now.
So, like 2008 was the first presidential election that I was really aware of, and I think it fundamentally shaped something in me politically. I was 11 years old in 2008, and it was truly an unforgettable moment. My bff at the time's mom was a huge Obama supporter (she even drove to Iowa to canvas for Obama ahead of the Iowa Caucuses) and she had an election night watch party which we all were at. The energy there was palpable. The number of Obama/Biden signs in my neighborhood was off the charts, thick, thick on the ground. That night when it was announced that Obama had won, people immediately started blowing off fireworks. We were all partying out in the streets, filled with excitement and hope. There was a massive rally downtown with the Obamas that night. Fireworks kept going off all night. It was such a moment. So yeah, I'm getting shades of this now, and I like that so much.

Anyways, the fact that there have been people rallying for Harris in republic*n strongholds (like THE VILLAGES) in FLORIDA is a promising sign. The fact that GEORGIA went blue in 2020 despite massive amounts of republic*n ratfuckery, is a sign of good things ahead.

I know people are going "KISS HER!!! WHY DIDN'T THEY KISS!!!" about that imodna conversation, and I would have been extremely happy if they did! But I'm a little saddened because calling for that feels like it misses the explicit and incredibly queer message given by their relationship because it's looking for what's been defined in expectation to be love. It misses the power that exists in undefinition.
"It transcends words, our relationship."
"You are my strong foundation." "You're my tether."
"i love you so much." "i love you more than anything." They say this while they're hugging. They punctuate this incredibly heartfelt and world-defining love by holding onto each other tight like they'll never see each other again. Women who fight for the other and have saved each other again and again. This is love. This is a love confession.
It just doesn't end with a kiss.
There is an undeniable love and care. You cannot miss how devoted these women are to eachother. It’s simply a fact. But Laudna says it herself: their relationship is beyond definition. Beyond label. It is all encompassing, all surrounding, like being soulmates. And Laudna says it doesn't have a label, because their love just-- is. Not friendship, not dating, might not call it a QP, not a mere partnership, not anything but Laudna and Imogen. Just look at it. They don't NEED to kiss to tell you how much.
I will fully admit i'm greyroace with a tenuous understanding on love despite being in my own relationship: specifically the lines in the sand between platonic and romantic feelings and what either entail. There are SO many psychology theories on various typings that frankly the best conclusion you can come to is "love is love slashy-face :/" it's all a nebulous strange connection humans being make. Love is beyond definition because man fuck, what the hell are we talking about.
And yet, without understanding it, love is powerful. It's the connection that makes two people think about living away on a horse ranch together peacefully, the kind that makes them plunge into eachother's personal hells to lead them by the hand to sunlight. It's cuddling in the night while holding eachother's hands. And it's Laudna and Imogen's. They’ve said it outloud: they are the other's better half to a better whole, and more important than anything else. You can't deny that. And it’s so wonderful to see such an incredible relationship. It doesn’t NEED to have The Big Kiss as its overture.
A kiss is not the grand thing of a relationship; weirdly, a lot of writers tend to completely STOP the story at The Big Kiss and not be able to let the characters have a functional relationship. Laudna and Imogen are unbelievably intertwined, they LOVE EACHOTHER. There's no "will they won't they" tension or dancing around the idea of dating and being girlfrienda and the squee of hot goss (which i do still enjoy btw c2 was very fun for many reasons). They are so wholly comfortable in the other. Like the old type of love between long time married couples, the kind where it's so ingrained it's simply routine. Sometimes prone to insecurity and bumps (rocks.) but every relationship has that, and the great thing is that their other friendships are there to support them, just as important to rounding out their circles, unlike some stories that would sacrifice or flander them. for the sake of the love story. They're Imogen and Laudna, Laudna and Imogen, close with their friends but eachother most of all. Imodna IS canon. Its arc is just something that isn't about what we'd call the romance of it.
It feels like demanding they needed to kiss in order to officialize(?) their love enforces a strange binary that makes their relationship lesser and unrecognized as meaningful unless they engage in traditionally romantic gestures. It's the same societal allonormativity that places a false hierarchy on romantic versus platonic relationships, that dismisses "Do you really think we were meant for normal?" Laudna asks. Isn't that ambiguity and lack of definition what queerness is for?
If they kiss in the future I will be very very happy! If you make them fluster and awkward in ur funnie fictions go wild. But maybe I've just been recently fatigued with fan culture in general ignoring the beauty and complexity of various relationships and character stories because of this narrow idea often rooted in an overemphasis on shipping culture. Denying the value in the forest because it didn't have your specific tree.

I've been listening to Taylor Swift since the debut. I'm not one of those listeners that believe Taylor is a Princess, wholly innocent, 24/7 victim but at the same time I don't believe she's a Villain. She's made mistakes.
I'm not one of those listeners that has the time and immoral capacity to sit on the Internet to committ Cyber crimes nor am I willing to put my health on the line to see her live. There should be boundaries.
The transfer from Teenhood to Adulthood for Taylor...I could tell ..she's still unravelling. Its okay to be in your 30s and still finding yourself. Hopefully there is an expiry date.
I'm not trying to be funny but I believe Taylor needs therapy. There are some unresolved things: fame, dealing with the industry and the media has definitely affected her. I don't think she's quite shake off alot stuff. It's passivity with a cupcake appearance of happiness.
Her patterns and methodology when it comes to music....mmmh the adults are taking a step back and analysing 😄. Writing those songs and knowing the effects will eventually become a "Here we go again" Moment. Everyone will move on and she will remain.Therapy is needed.The pride comes before the fall.
I say this because when Tortured Poets Project was announced I was unsure about it. I've never been unsure about a Taylor album. But then again I'm aware of the Taylor Formula. Not sure if she can carry this formula into her 40s and 50s 😄 but we will see. But I listen for listening sake..I'm listening to everyone this year.
TTPD Album: I had to stop half way because its the typical Taylor album...same note 🙆🏻♂️ same storyline... lol no doubt she's a good songwriter. Not sure how to feel about missiles being sent to someone who struggled or struggling with Depression. NOPE.

A few weeks ago, we heard Beyoncé album and I'm not the biggest Bey fan but we heard her different layers vocally and with the blending of genres. While I'm aware Taylor isn't a vocalist...I want to hear her do other genres.

I know I'm retreading old ground here, but I'll always love Süleiman and Gülfem's little scene in E15, because it reveals everything about both Gülfem herself and her relationship with Süleiman now and going forward. Gülfem's role as a conscience in general and for Süleiman in particular emerges, since when his relationships with his women are put to the test, she is the person he turns to as the first woman he's possibly hurt, as the one embodying that distant past everyone seeks to forget but can't as it always resurfaces all over again (and it's sad and telling that she's remembered only in occasions like these). Gülfem as Süleiman's conscience builds off of Hafsa's, Ibrahim's, Mustafa's and Hatice's isolated moments where they've been consciences for Süleiman yet in this scene it completely distinguishes itself as more of a deeper conscience, privy to Süleiman's inner world in ways we don't know but they themselves do, wholly embracing this moment that's just between them both. But the more her view of what she experienced unveils to us, the more this privyness and understanding Gülfem has for her closest springs forth as the coping mechanism she's developed in order to deal with her circumstances - she loves these people so much, so they're by no means at fault, she is, something has to be missing with her in order for it that devasting end to have come forth (her loss has sadly done a number on her self-worth too: how could someone as ""average"" as her advice Hatice on what to write to Ibrahim??; how could someone as ""average"" as her not be at fault??). She clearly isn't over it (shown by her resentment that occasionally crops up especially in her dynamic with Mahidevran, but also a bit by some of her looks during Mehmet's naming ceremony), but she has to accept it, to go with the flow, to cling to fate and the might of Allah as well (her urging Hatice for them to pray to Allah for Ibrahim in E14, also "When we lost our children* at a very young age, I accepted it as the will of Allah."; it's fascinating how close this brings her to both Hatice and Mahidevran: all three of them lean on fate like that, but Gülfem has experienced something so irreperably final and severe that every sign of something good happening, she'll openly and gladly take it, so is able to see the silver linings in Hatice's experiences that Hati herself can not; both Mahidevran and Gülfem lean on Allah, but unlike Mahi who expects and strives for justice for her suffering that's supposedly outside of Allah, Gülfi lets it go and associates the suffering itself too with Allah, if not with herself), focusing on what she already has, taking it with full hands.
And since that entails the people she supports, the last idea of family remaining to her as SS is so unreachable, and she can't bear to lose them too, the only thing left for her is to love them and idealize them but in different ways and amounts due to her different relationships with them, thus creating a sort of a hierarchy of fondness and idealization: going from Mahidevran (who I guess Gülfem is in good terms with not just due to her good relations with Hatice, but also because she's gotten too used to her as part of the family as well; as an ally, a main part of Gülfem processing everything, so when another person like Hürrem appears who's likely to challenge that status quo, that calm Gülfi has absorbed, she stands behind Mahi, shown in E08; btw, Hürrem too may have also become quite a part of that fondness and idealization line later on, but more about that when I get to S04), to Hafsa (the mother figure for whose will Gülfem's respect is usually absolute), to Hatice (the companion she's closest to, so she's able to give her a lot more empathy and understanding), to finally Süleiman, the last pillar of that hierarchy precisely because he's so unreachable and so dear she couldn't express it until this E15 scene and even then not fully. Even if, along with her understanding of them, she can and has called out others when she feels they're unjust namely due to her fondness of them, Süleiman is completely idealized in her mind, put on that pedestal of everything Gülfem yearns for in her life, of the peace he currently emanates but hasn't gotten from any of his women in return according to Gülfem (and it's interesting that Hürrem comes up promising a calmness to SS after she returns from her exile the same episode). But he won't emanate it much longer and the more her loved ones become disillusioned with him and are then stripped away from Gülfem by him, she starts to notice it in ways she can't deny.
So it's perfect that this scene, the first one that directly verbalizes how much loyalty means to SS especially in terms of his women and presents Gülfem as the first such loyal figure, sets her up as the last and perhaps most striking opposer of that idea. Her final act of defiance only appears sudden; it was always meant to happen like this.

what do you think of the argument that it’s not fair on poor people with mental health problems who work really hard to keep their housing for someone who doesn’t work hard to get housing?
This is not my view at all btw but someone said it and idk how to respond
It is helpful to reframe the situation like this: “Do you believe that people who do not work deserve to be alive?” If the answer to this question is yes, then we need to provide those people with housing, food and basic amenities. If the answer is no, they then need to justify why they think that a person who doesn’t work deserves to starve or die from exposure.
Keep in mind that welfare spending makes up only a third of your average taxpayers contribution, at least here in the UK, and we are taxed more than most. That includes all welfare, including disability benefits, child benefits, free school meals, subsidised healthcare and housing. That is a pretty good deal to ensure that our fellow human beings are not living on the streets in massive numbers.
The other key point to consider, is that any system which requires people to work for their survival hands the power of life and death to employers. Do you want corporations to be able to decide who lives and who dies? Do you believe that conditions and workers rights would improve or deteriorate under a system where workers cannot quit if they can’t find another job, because if they do, they won’t be able to afford to stay alive?
If we want to address inequality, how about the billions in corporate subsidies paid for by our taxes? The intentional loopholes meaning the very rich pay less tax than the poor do? The fact that the welfare system is forced to subsidise the inadequate wages paid by some of the world’s most profitable companies? That corporations use far more of the infrastructure, the roads, the rails, the ports that they pay almost nothing to maintain? Let’s address all that first before we worry about poor people getting a few hundred quid a month in housing benefits, if they’re lucky.
I honestly think that welfare claimants, even fraudulent ones, are a non-issue. It is pocket change compared to the billions we piss up the wall on our institutionally racist police force, bailing out irresponsible banks, supporting genocidal regimes, maintaining our imperial fleet and subsidising corporate interests. Welfare spending would be a wholly insignificant sum if we actually taxed the rich properly to fund the infrastructure and the welfare system that they build their fortunes on.
A robust welfare system is the defining mark of a fair society. What is even the point of humans coming together as communities if not for the collective to guarantee the welfare of the individual through shared security and the equitable distribution of resources? Society exists so that we can look after one another, and that shouldn’t be dependent on people selling most of their waking life just to avoid homelessness.

I HAVENT GOTTEN OAST THE INTRO OF THIS EPISODE BUT TELL ME ABT AKU ATSUSHI COLORS ‼️
ohhh my god ok so in very classic visual symbolism white=good and black=bad right? and atsushi is white and aku is black right? but atsushi's outfit has touches of black, his tie his suspenders his pants, the stripes of his tiger form(and his hair too in the manga. studio bones die challenge) and aku's has touches of white, his hair, the shirt underneath his coat (which btw that white shirt being wrapped underneath his black outer layer of brutal protection goes CRAZYYYYYY btw) and so neither of them is wholly good or bad aku is not entirely bad and atsushi isn't wholly good. it's played for laughs but atsushi was literally gonna rob someone for his own survival at the start. lol. hashtag moral greyness
white/black symbolism ALSOOOO goes crazy BECAUSEEEE it's complementary. very yin and yang of them. in fact there's this cool ass scene near the end of season 3 where there is some INSANE yin and yang symbolism going on. there's also scenes they have together where they have to work together for reasons, usually forced by circumstances, and their color palettes effectively invert, with aku becoming mostly white with touches of black and atsushi becoming mostly black with touches of white (and it looks so slay too) which is kind of symbolic of how they each have a side to themselves that they only let out with each other. you haven't seen a TON of their dynamic yet but they force each other to act in ways they normally wouldn't. atsushi is harsher and meaner to aku than he would ever be to anyone else whereas in contrast aku is forced into some level of goodness. atsushi hates to kill and doesn't want to kill anyone but every fight he has with aku is one where he IS trying to kill him, in contrast there is. well that's a spoiler actually. hurry up and get through s3 it carries sskk on it's back. anyway they each tend to be the other's only exception to their usual morals which is supported by the visual symbolism.
in conclusion. new double black well I think that's not true and I think they're called that so you can look at them and see every way they are not actually chuuya and dazai starting first and foremost with the fact that their color palettes are NOT both black and only black
