Hey guys, check out my latest substack ”De-age, degrade, defy: Severance Abolition” where I address the need for a severance ban through a family abolition framework. Since an “innie” worker is born their first day of work, trapped into a subservient relationship from the employer they can never escape from, the severance procedure realizes the capitalist dream of wholly reproducing the familial unit in the workplace… [read more]

Eldarya Valentine Event Review
So, as everyone who reads the guide blog knows, I try my best to stay 400% neutral there; I don't want to impose my opinions on people who just want to know what the right answers are and, to be honest, I tend to keep to myself anyway. But I've often been asked to share my opinions at least on this Tumblr (there was actually a poll a few years ago, where I asked if people wanted that and I just realized I never started posting opinions anyway. XD sorry, I'm so terribad at this) so here I am, being asked my thoughts on the matter and answering, for once. I also noticed I suck at tagging; blame the fact that this is just an info-blog about the guide website, I promise I'll go back and sort them out. I will tag Personal opinion posts or the ones about myself with "Purrsonal" so you can skip them if you want. (All) that being said, the Valentine event... under the cut because it’s extra long.
As usual, it started with bugs. Yeah, ok, let's move on, there is nothing new to say. I really wish they tested this stuff a bit before tossing it on us.
"Victim of its own success" my @$$.
Outfits: Truth be told, I overall don't like them. There are some pieces that I find absolutely great but that is it. Valkyon's especially is really weird to look at, more like a chastity device than date outfit, even if I do like the boots, and the shoulderpads aren't that bad I guess. Hopefully people have better taste than me and can appreciate them more, but for me, having to pay potentially so much more than usual for outfits that I like far less was a bit of a disappointment.
Money: In that regard, yes you do pay more, a lot more, it's not just you, it's a fact. On average (there was some market involved, plus the occasional energy potion... blablabla) the 2017 event, assuming optimal completion (not spending more than strictly necessary) cost a whole 80 maana (or less!) for 3 outfits. The 2018 event? 0. Yep, all free. 2019? We are talking about 1200 maana (optimal completion) and we all know many of us didn't optimally complete. It sucked.
True, this is the only event you can finish early without spending a single gold coin (2017 and 2018 required gold coins if you made mistakes or skipped some days that didn't depend on knowing the answers), but it's also the only event where if you want the companion you have to pay. 2017? present from Leiftan, free. 2018, Completion Prize, free.
Companion: As someone who watched My Little Pony as a toddler, it's simply adorable. Diabetes-inducing adorable, but still adorable. Plus, it's animated (but it kinda looks like it's having a seizure...)! Is it the start of a trend? Stats are really not great (unless puberty hits reaaally hard and the adult is a half-miracle), but I caved in and bought it at least on the Italian version. It sucks that it's not free. :( The fact that the companion could only be obtained by paying for it was the biggest downside of this event for me, and I think that it was also the first time this happened outside an episode since the game came out internationally. /Sadpanda.
Background: I love backgrounds, and this is very sugary, but beautiful; I just wish it didn't replace the companion as completion reward, because if I HAD to choose between the 2, I would have preferred the latter, as much as I wish we had more event backgrounds, companions are just more useful, especially for newbies.
Mechanics: My biggest complain here is the cost, too high. We had all foreseen the use of the newly acquired alchemy minigame as the engine for this event, and while some don't like it, I was ok with that. It's just too expensive to be likable. We never had to pay so much for a Valentine event and I hope it won't repeat itself. On the bright side, it's not a skill minigame, so it's not something we can fail. Considering the issues many had during the last events, perahps at least THAT is a good thing. It's nice that you can find the ingredients everywhere, including the low energy areas, but I would have preferred if they had split the loot pool among them instead of everything dropping everywhere; finding everything you need for a specific outfit, especially the scrolls, is extremely hard with these chances, and the scrolls are 100 maana. Which brings me to the next point: the final questions. While I like the idea of a tiny-mini-episode inside the event with its answers to guess, God Bless the guides, because I'd like to see people complete this event using no extra maana or gold, without relying on people who paid to advance faster. If you try to do it staying in those 1200 maana, the optimal completion, you submit yourselves to the the RNGesus, and it could take DAYS to complete a route. Now, imagine getting a couple of answers wrong, and having to wait a DAY to retry... get them all wrong and you take 13 days JUST for the answers... it's a bit crazy. Cant we have, I don't know, an attempt every 4-6 hours? It's like they are really trying hard to make us spend money this time around.
Story: Well, can't say that I liked seeing Gardienne "Unable to control herself" and cheating on her boyfriend, mostly because I don't think it was necessary. If you haven't played episode 19 yet, the boyfriend is not mentioned, as you are in that weird out-of-time situation where there is no boyfriend yet, and it doesn't feel as terrible. Yes, "you" are still kissing someone you may not like for the sake of the outfit/illustration with no option to opt out, but at the same time, it's quite mild and it is just a dream... I wish it had been like that for accounts past episode 19 as well. This version leaves a sour taste in my mouth and knocks my Erika LOM meter down a few notches. Yes, I understand it's a dream, and I'm fully aware people dream really weird stuff sometimes, where you do things you'd never do in real life and have no control over yourself, but she doesn't even show any embarassment or regret upon waking up. I also do not identify with the MC in this kind of game so I'm mighty fine with disliking her or her actions (not the first time~~~); I would probably not have minded a situation like this for the story's sake. It would have been interesting to explore (although, I'm always a bit scared about trusting Beemoov with this stuff, they can't handle it very well). But it is supposed to be a cute valentine event, and it would have taken so little to make this more palatable for everyone. Was it really necessary to add this tiny bit of angst?
Overall opinion: I know I criticized a lot, this event was probably among the ones I've liked the least, mostly for the excessive cost and some debatable choices on the story. I did like some things though, including using the alchemy minigame (I know I'm in the minority here :p), mostly because it requires no skill, something that has caused issues in the past - minigames hard to play on touch screens, color impairments, etc., etc. - and I liked the fact that they removed Daily gates - the fact you couldn't advance past the missions of the day unless you paid. This event could be completed in a day if you wanted, and with a bit of luck without spending a single gold coin, that was nice. I'm not sure I would like another event like this, but there was some potential that I hope won't be immediately discarded.
Loved the best (ranked 1st to 4th + Bonus to be fair since I listed 5 things I dislike XD): 1. I LOVE THE TIMER ON THE CORNER, underappreciated little bastard *heart* 2. No daily gates, you could finish the entire event in one day or in 12, without spending extra money. 2. The mini-episode at the end. The idea of it at least, I've already said I don't like some of the... content. 3. No luck with explorations? You can finish the event with maana. It's nice that you can use maana (and not gold coins) to finish the event if you are unlucky or don't have enough time. 4. No hard-to-do minigames (I've never had an issue with them, but I've heard of hundreds of people who did.) 5. The background and the companion were overly cute.
Hated the beast (ranked 1st to 4th + Special guest star): 1. Companion in Gold coins only, my biggest disappointment 2. The whole cheating thing. Why? Was it needed? 3. Having to pay maana for an event, when the ones before were all free 4. Disregarding personal taste, I don't think Valkyon outfit was suited for a Valentine day date. 5. And once again, the bugs. I just... don't... have... any polite words left for it. It's last only because it's featured in every single event, so it has lost the novelty effect.

Why Do Republicans Deny Climate Change Science?
Gasoline Consumption Taxes. An increase in federal taxes on gasoline to cause people to use less of it has almost never gained majority support. Increased gasoline taxes reached and surpassed 50% favoring among Democrats in 2015 and 2018, then gained significant traction in 2020, reaching a peak at 65%. The partisan gap in 2020 was 47 percentage points, an all-time high.
Are Republicans Coming Out Of The Closet On Climate Change
Bruce Westerman, a Republican congressman from Arkansas, has a plan to help save the planet one he thinks may also help save his party.
His proposal, which calls for planting a trillion trees to suck carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, was warmly received last month when House Republicans gathered to discuss their policy agenda heading into the 2020 elections.
After years of denying that the planet was growing hotter because of human activity, an increasing number of Republicans say they need to acknowledge the problem and offer solutions if they have any hope of retaking the House.
In poll after poll, large numbers of young and suburban Republican voters are registering their desire for climate action and say the issue is a priority. And their concern about climate change is spreading to older GOP supporters, too.
Almost 7 in 10 Republican adults under 45 said that human activity is causing the climate to change, according to a poll last summer by The Washington Post and the Kaiser Family Foundation.
Republicans cant win the majority back without winning suburban districts, and you cant win suburban districts with a retro position on climate change, said former South Carolina congressman Bob Inglis, a Republican who is pushing his party to craft a climate plan.
Figure 4 Party Breakdown Of Beliefs About Effects And Observations Of Global Warming
Majorities of Democrats and Republicans also diverge in their observations of the world around them. Majorities of Democrats and Republicans believe they have seen effects of global warming. But although majorities of Democrats believe that, during the last three years, global weather patterns have been more unstable , that global temperatures have been higher , and that weather patterns in the county where they live have been more unstable , only minorities of Republicans hold those views: 41%, 41%, and 26%, respectively.
Majorities of Democrats and of Republicans endorse action to deal with global warming. Democrats are almost unanimously in favor of action by the US government, governments in other countries, US businesses, and average people. Sizable majorities of Republicans expressed these preferences as well. The partisan gap between Democrats and Republicans on these issues ranges from 27 to 50 percentage points and averages 36 percentage points.

Increase energy efficiency of buildings. Majorities of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents have consistently favored federal government efforts to improve the energy efficiency of new buildings. In 2020, 86% of Democrats, 61% or Republicans, and 74% of Independents favor this policy option, with a partisan gap of 25 percentage points.
Only 27% Of Republicans Think Climate Change Is A ‘major Threat’ To The United States
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e582cb939d135ad8b881e58ee05a69a9/0a5ccc635a090cc9-a3/s640x960/241a113b6aba75588d1144f3e97fbf8ac0e5d690.jpg)
According to a new poll, less than a third of Republicans think that climate change is a “major threat to the well-being of the United States.”
A survey conducted by the Pew Research Institute asked respondents about several “serious global threats,” including Russian influence, the Islamic State and North Korea’s nuclear program.
Global climate change was far and away the most divisive issue: Only 27 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents agreed it was a threat, compared to 84 percent of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents.
Overall, though, the issue ranked as the biggest crisis for most respondents, with 57 percent saying it put the U.S. at risk. That’s 2 percent less than were concerned with climate change in a 2017 Pew survey.
That might not be surprising, given the debates about the Green New Deal in Congress. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who says he does believe in climate change, claimed the Green New Deal would ” off entire domestic industries down millions of jobsbasically the only sources of energy that working-class and middle-class families can actually afford.”
Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington State, currently a Democratic candidate for president, has made the environment a central part of his campaign, with a “community climate justice” plan for America to transition to clean economy.

New Caucus New Opportunity
Even broaching the topic with some political conservatives can be challenging, said U.S. Rep. John Curtis, a Republican from Utah.
He compared the reflexive reaction many conservatives have when it comes to climate change to how Democrats feel when they hear about former President Donald Trumps U.S.-Mexico border wall.
Their chest tightens, he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.
I think climate has been like that for Republicans, right? Just the word climate has all these agendas, the Green New Deal and Al Gore kind of associated with it, and I think thats turned them off.
Last week, Curtis launched the Conservative Climate Caucus – a group in Congress that already boasts a roster of more than 50 Republicans to try to educate colleagues and brainstorm ideas to deal with climate change.
Curtis said he envisions field trips to look at electric vehicle manufacturing or forest fire damage, a big worry in the western United States right now.
But hes not keen on virtually eliminating use of fossil fuels – something scientists say is crucial to limiting dangerous warming – instead preferring a switch to cleaner ones.
I think theres a role for fossil fuels, he said. If were able to export U.S. natural gas to China and it displaced coal, that would have dramatic impacts on worldwide carbon emissions.
Curtis acknowledged that among a certain set of conservative voters, winning heart and minds on climate change will take much more work.
The Fossil Fuel Industrys Funding Of Denial
CAPs analysis of data from the Center for Responsive Politics shows that these 139 climate science deniers have accepted more than $61 million in lifetime direct contributions from the oil, gas, and coal industries, which comes out to an average of $442,293 per elected official of Congress that denies climate change. This figure includes all contributions above the Federal Election Commissions mandated reporting threshold of $200 from management, employees, and political action committees in the fossil fuel industries. Not included in this data are the many other avenues available to fossil fuel interests to influence campaigns and elected officials. For example, oil, gas, and coal companies spent heavily during the 2020 election cycle to keep the Senate under the control of former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell a known climate denierwith major oil companies like Valero, Chevron, and ConocoPhillips contributing more than $1 million each to the conservative Senate Leadership Fund.
This analysis only shows direct, publicly disclosed contributions to federal candidates. The fossil fuel industry regularly spends millions of dollars of dark money advertising to the public; shaping corporate decisions; lobbying members of Congress; and otherwise funding the infrastructure that makes climate denial politically feasible and even profitable.

Actually Republicans Do Believe In Climate Change
Dr. Van Boven and Dr. Sherman are social psychologists.
It is widely believed that most Republicans are skeptical about human-caused climate change. But is this belief correct?
In 2014 and 2016, we conducted two national surveys of more than 2,000 respondents on the issue of climate change. We found that most Republicans agreed that climate change is happening, threatens humans and is caused by human activity and that reducing carbon emissions would mitigate the problem.
To be sure, Democrats agreed more strongly than Republicans did that climate change is a concerning reality. And among climate skeptics there were more Republicans than Democrats. Nevertheless, most Republicans were in basic agreement with most Democrats and independents on this issue.
This raises a question: If Democrats and Republicans agree about climate change, why do they disagree about climate policy?
As we and our colleague Phillip Ehret argue this month in the journal Perspectives on Psychological Science, our research suggests the problem is not so much that Republicans are skeptical about climate change, but that Republicans are skeptical of Democrats and that Democrats are skeptical of Republicans. This tribalism leads to political fights over differences between the parties that either do not exist or are vastly exaggerated.
Some Republicans Find Failure To Grapple With Climate Change A Political Liability
Gov. Larry Hogan Is a Republican Who Believes in Climate Change
A small but growing number of Republicans say the G.O.P. needs a coherent climate strategy and formed a Conservative Climate Caucus on Capitol Hill.
By Lisa Friedman
WASHINGTON When Representative John Curtis quietly approached fellow Republicans to invite them to discuss climate change at a clandestine meeting in his home state of Utah, he hoped a half dozen members might attend.
Soon the guest list blew past expectations as lawmakers heard about the gathering and asked to be included. For two days in February, 24 Republicans gathered in a ballroom of the Grand America Hotel in Salt Lake City where they brainstormed ways to get their party to engage on a planetary problem it has ignored for decades.
Some came with the promise of being anonymous. Its terrible that Republicans cant even go talk about it without being embarrassed, Mr. Curtis said in an interview.
For four years under President Donald J. Trump, even uttering the phrase climate change was verboten for many Republicans. His administration scrubbed the words from federal websites, tried to censor testimony to Congress and mocked the science linking rising fossil fuel emissions to a warming planet.
Now, many in the Republican Party are coming to terms with what polls have been saying for years: independents, suburban voters and especially young Republicans are worried about climate change and want the government to take action.

Majorities Of Us Adults Say Federal Government Is Not Doing Enough On The Environment
Majorities of Americans continue to say the federal government is doing too little to protect key aspects of the environment. About two-thirds of Americans say the federal government is doing too little to protect water quality of rivers, lakes and streams , protect air quality and reduce the effects of climate change . About six-in-ten think the federal government is doing too little to protect animals and their habitats , and a slightly smaller majority say the federal government is doing too little to protect open lands in national parks .
These findings come amid a changing federal regulatory landscape. The Trump administration is reversing or seeking to change more than 100 rules and regulations related to carbon dioxide emissions, clean air, water or toxic chemicals.
Public views on how much the federal government is doing to protect key aspects of the environment are virtually unchanged in the last two years. In Pew Research Center surveys in both 2018 and 2019, about two-thirds of Americans said the federal government was doing too little to protect air or water quality or reduce the effects of climate change.
Over the past several years, Americans have become significantly more likely to say protecting the environment and addressing climate change should be top priorities for the president and Congress, according to a 2020 Pew Research Center survey.
Among Democrats, there are hardly any gaps in views on these questions by generation or gender. .
Congressman John Boehner Republican Of Ohio
Speaker of the House
Boehner reliably pleads ignorance to punt on climate change. Listen, Im not qualified to debate the science over climate change, Boehner said in May. But I am astute enough to understand that every proposal that has come out of this administration to deal with climate change involves hurting our economy and killing American jobs. That cant be the prescription for dealing with changes in our climate.
Boehner called the US-China deal the latest example of the presidents crusade against affordable, reliable energy that is already hurting jobs and squeezing middle-class families.
Recommended Reading: How Many Republicans Are In The House And Senate
Democrats Mostly Agree The Federal Government Should Do More On Climate While Republicans Differ By Ideology Age And Gender
Majorities of Americans say the federal government is doing too little for key aspects of the environment, from protecting water or air quality to reducing the effects of climate change. And most believe the United States should focus on developing alternative sources of energy over expansion of fossil fuel sources, according to a new Pew Research Center survey.
A majority of U.S. adults say they are taking at least some specific action in their daily lives to protect the environment, though Democrats and Republicans remain at ideological odds over the causes of climate change and the effects of policies to address it, according to the survey of 3,627 U.S. adults conducted Oct. 1 to Oct. 13, 2019, using the Centerâs American Trends Panel.
These findings come amid the Trump administrationâs intention to officially withdraw from the 2016 Paris climate accord and ongoing efforts to roll back domestic environmental protection regulations, including relaxing limits on methane and carbon emissions.
About two-thirds of U.S. adults say the federal government is doing too little to reduce the effects of climate change, and similar shares say the same about government efforts to protect air and water quality â findings that are consistent with results from a 2018 Center survey.
Views about government efforts to protect the environment in areas such as water or air quality show similar differences among Republicans by ideology, generation and gender.
Figure 11 Party Breakdown Of Opinions On Obama
Of the 24 policies, 17 are favored by a majority of Independents, including the 7 that are favored by majorities of Republicans and of Democrats.
Of the seven policies favored by a minority of Independents, two are also favored by minorities of Republicans and Democrats: tax breaks to encourage nuclear power plant construction and increased consumer taxes on electricity.
Four of the other five policies favored by a minority of Independents are: increasing consumer taxes on gasoline, helping companies prevent leaks and pollution from pipelines, spending stimulus money to advance manufacturing of all-electric cars, and installing charging stations for electric cars. For the proposed policy of helping companies make batteries that are smaller and last longer, 50% of Independents were in favor.
For two policies more Republicans than Democrats are in favor, by margins of 13 and 11 percentage points respectively.
Of the remaining 22 policies, more Democrats than Republicans are in favor by margins ranging from 18 to 58 percentage points and averaging 37 percentage points.
In sum, Democrats are generally more supportive of emissions reduction policies than Republicans, and Independents are generally in between those two groups. And although majorities of both Republicans and Democrats agree with one another about some policies, they disagreed on most.

Republicans Who Believe In Climate Change Seek Alternative To Green New Deal
Republicans have trashed the Green New Deal Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s proposal to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and create a renewable energy economy as unrealistic, unaffordable and ill-conceived.
But ever since the New York Democrat began promoting the idea late last year, a growing number of House GOP lawmakers have been increasingly willing to say those four little words: “Climate change is real.” And they’re warning the rest of their party that Republicans must push for alternative solutions before it’s too late.
Reps. John Shimkus, R-Ill., the ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce’s Environment and Climate Change subcommittee, Billy Long, R-Mo., Bill Flores, R-Texas, Buddy Carter, R-Ga., and Anthony Gonzalez, R-Ohio, among others, made their views plain during a pair of hearings on the topic in early February.
“This is an extremely important subject,” Carter said during a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on the Environment and Climate Change hearing on Feb. 6., adding that climate change “is real” and is “something that we have to address.”
Shimkus, along with Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., the ranking member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, and Fred Upton, R-Mich., the ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce’s Energy subcommittee, argued in a Feb. 13 opinion article that the Green New Deal would have “potentially devastating consequences on our national debt and on our economy.”
What Has Trump Done On Climate Change
The Climate Deregulation Tracker, run by the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law, has documented more than 130 steps the Trump administration has taken to scale back measures to fight climate change.
High-profile rollbacks include:
Replacing President Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan, which would have limited carbon emissions from coal and gas-fired power plants, with the Affordable Clean Energy rule, which had weaker regulations
Attempting to freeze the fuel efficiency standards imposed on new vehicles, and prevent California from setting its own emissions rules
“He’s completely halted and reversed the momentum that was built up during the Obama administration in fighting climate change,” Prof Gerrard says.
While withdrawing from the Paris Agreement was “terrible symbolically”, the agreement had “virtually no specifics on what the US had to do”, so other rollbacks, especially the attempt to limit fuel economic standards of cars, were more damaging, he adds.
Dan Costa worked at the Environmental Protection Agency for more than 30 years, including as the National Director of the Air, Climate & Energy Research Program.
He said he noticed an “anti-science stance” once the Trump administration’s team took over.
“One of the folks who came as part of the transition team said ‘if climate change is such a bad thing, why are so many people moving to Arizona? Anyway, you can turn up the air conditioning.'”

9 social media tips PR pros can't ignore
Social media has become a communications staple for all industries.
You’ll find no shortage of online articles that offer social media tips, but many of them don’t cover the foundational necessities that are at the core of a successful social media brand presence.
Do you want to position your company for all the benefits social media can deliver? Here are some no-nonsense ways you can accomplish that.
1. Realize there’s no substitute for a sound strategy.
Brands that have built a large and engaged following didn’t do so by accident. They strategize and have a plan for their social media channels. They have taken the time to understand what’s important, interesting and entertaining to their audience.
[RELATED: Join us at Disney World to soak up some sun and a wealth of social media secrets.]
Here are examples of what an effective social media plan for your business will address:
Your audience’s needs and expectations on each platform your company uses
Types of content your brand will post on those platforms
Content themes to guide the kinds of posts you will create
Frequency of updates
Roles and responsibilities of team members and other parties that will manage your social media channels
Tools that will be used to automate and schedule social media updates
Policies for responding to mentions, comments and messages—positive and negative
A content calendar is a tool that can help you organize the social media content you create to align with your strategic goals. You may decide to plan your content a week, a month, a quarter or a year in advance—in all cases, a content calendar will help you stay active on your channels even during the most hectic of times.
2. Respect each platform’s nuances.
Facebook isn’t Twitter. Twitter isn’t LinkedIn. LinkedIn isn’t Instagram. You get the idea.
Each social media channel has its own unique qualities, and the audience on one will have different expectations than the audience on another. Here are some examples:
Hashtag usage – Instagram users expect to see multiple hashtags on posts, but on Twitter using just one or two is ideal. Hardly anyone uses them on Facebook. LinkedIn is encouraging hashtag use, but the jury is still out on whether it will gain notable popularity as a best practice.
Frequency of updates – To stay on the radar on Twitter, you must keep up a much higher posting frequency than on other platforms. However, tweeting every two hours won’t overstay your welcome on Twitter, but posting that often on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn might result in people muting or unfollowing you.
Formality – LinkedIn, with its 100 percent professional focus, demands a bit more professionalism than other platforms. However, don’t confuse “professionalism” with “stuffiness.” You can be professional without being boring or unrelatable.
3. Make sure your social media management team has mastered your brand’s voice.
Whoever has the responsibility of crafting your social media content and responding to followers should have a firm understanding of your brand’s voice. If your content and interactions are off-brand, your social media presence might confuse customers or drive them away.
One idea for keeping social media managers on track is to have a style guide for your company. A style guide can contain rules for any aspects of communication you want to be handled consistently by all who represent your company (customer service, marketing, PR, sales, etc.).
A style guide might include:
How you want your business name presented (for example, “ABC Electronics, Inc” vs. “ABC Electronics:”)
Hyphenation of certain words (such as “well being” vs. “well-being”)
Compound word preferences (like “health care” vs. “healthcare”)
Taboo words and phrases to avoid
The tone of your company (snarky or serious)
Before you task someone with tending to your social media, make sure you’ve given them your style guide and encourage them to ask you for direction when they’re unsure about a potential post.
4. Be approachable and real.
Brands that come off as out of touch with or uninterested in their followers put themselves at a competitive disadvantage. Make your brand presence more than just a talking logo that promotes your services in every post. Mix it up and give your updates the human touch.
Some ideas for how to do that include:
Strike conversations with your followers. Ask questions or create polls to get them talking.
Share glimpses of what happens behind the scenes of your business via videos.
Introduce your team members through bios or video interviews.
Share real-life stories about how your services and products have helped your customers.
By making followers feel at home with your brand, you’ll gain their trust and facilitate interaction with your company. Ultimately, that can result in referrals, leads and new customers.
5. Strengthen your leadership team’s branding efforts.
Business owners, CEOs and others in leadership roles have prime opportunities to strengthen their company’s online presence by taking opportunities to share their expertise via guest blog posts, podcasts, media interviews and more. All of these have the potential to generate exposure across multiple social media channels.
6. Stay up to date on social media changes.
One of the best ways to do this is by subscribing to blogs that focus on content marketing and social media trends and best practices. Most important, check your accounts frequently. You’ll find that you see or receive notifications of changes (such as layout modifications) made to platforms if you log into your accounts on a regular basis.
7. Make sure your social media managers have your organization’s support.
Social media followers expect answers to their questions and concerns quickly. According to an article on ConvinceandConvert, “Forty-two percent of consumers that complain to a brand on social media expect a response within 60 minutes.”
If your social media admin needs guidance on how to answer an inquiry or resolve an issue, you must give that individual the information or direction needed to respond within a short window of time. This will mean setting the expectation with your team members that they must make answering questions from your social media manager a top priority.
8. Accept that you will probably need to “pay to play” if you want to expand your reach significantly .
With the intent to facilitate a more enjoyable social media experience for consumers, platforms have tweaked their algorithms to organically show less content from brands in followers’ news feeds. To gain greater exposure online, you may need a little help from the almighty dollar.
Fortunately, options like Facebook Ads and advertising on Instagram offer a comparatively cost-effective way to boost your brand.
9. Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
One of the biggest mistakes businesses make is trying to be on more social media channels than they are capable of handling. Resist the urge to immediately jump on the bandwagon when a new platform enters the field.
Being an early adopter doesn’t always work to your advantage. Not every new channel takes off and sticks around for the long term. Some become short-lived fads (such as Vine and Blab) that sucked up marketer’s time without delivering an ROI. Carefully assess new networks for their potential benefits for your business before throwing time and money at them.

A year in infamy, a year of sorrow, and depression that followed
2016 was probably the worst year of my life with the exception of my closets grandfather passing away in 2005. Simply saying 2016 was awful because Clinton lost isn’t adequate as in my case. I did work for the Clinton campaign as a phone volunteer, I donated money, tracked the polls, and devised personal strategies to watch for on election night. Not to mention I also ordered several bumper stickers for the campaign (all of which were removed by bystanders.) But blaming a years fait on a single event isn’t enough, although a lot but not enough. 2016 also marked the first year of college for my friends and I. Some of us took the transition to college better than others, I did not. I make decent grades, ranging form a medium of Bs and As primarily, but grades don’t gauge my mental physic. Moving to college was an adjustment, nights of personal pity due to homesickness, trying to figure out the ends and outs of college, and other personal mountains to climb. One thing that got me through 3/4 of my first semester was the thoughts of a woman winning in November. Being that those dreams were crushed within 7 hours of television coverage, my life went on hold after that. Since the election, my dedication to college has plummeted. There are clubs, elections, and benchmarks I would love to meet but the desire isn’t there. At the end of the day, the only thing I can think of is going home. I have friends which have helped me on my worst days, they may not have knew it but depression is always around the corner. Personally I try to stay reserved on my slight depressionistic tendencies, but it always find a way to creep out. I’m thankful for my friends of now and those I have lost along the way. From 2016 to now, my friends of now have all been solidified by college. Many of the friends I communicate with now have only been around for a couple of months in my life. I’ve had friends and significant others that I have lost along this journey called college. I don’t regret having those relationships and in fact I wouldn’t have changed them for the world. There are some people in my life that I have removed; not because of who they are but because of me. Some days pass by without a thought of those who have came and gone in my life, but other days it feels like they are always on my mind. I don’t want to rekindle my previous friendships, it would be too hard to turn back. I believe with all my heart, quoting an episode of Hannah Montana of course, that “some friends are in your life for a reason and some only for a season.” That quote does have some merit, but everyone who has ever been in my life or will ever be, will always be remembered as having a reason. I don’t hate any of my prior relationships, I just hate the process of letting go. Moving on, 2016 has affected me in more ways than the loss of friends or the huge election defeat of my lifetime, it provided me with something I never knew before, depression. Depression isn’t something you mess with or wish you had so others could pity you, it’s scary. This dark shadow in my life hangs over me like death over a stage four cancer patient, the threat is imminent but the strike is unknown. Depression will sneak up on you in the most random times in life, one day in class, talking to your friends, or even in the midst of falling asleep; depression sucks. I refuse to seek help in a doctors office because the only thing that would happen is being put on drugs to ‘help’ the problem; it actually only eliminates it for a short while. I wish I was being over dramatic, that my thoughts of depression were fake, but they aren’t. It feels like my life is comparable to a car, I should be the driver but I’m stuck between passenger and taking the wheel. I’m not going to lie, the election did push me over the edge but it revealed something that was lying deep inside me for years. The best solution to my problem was a free medicine called refuge in Christ. Since college, I lack the effort and want to attend church every Sunday. I claim that I’m tired or I don’t have enough time to do everything I want on the weekends, but that’s only a half-truth. All of those things said prior about not attending church are very much true, but my willpower is not controllable. Directly after the election my church was ablaze with “We are now hopefully going in the right direction”, “Pray for our leaders”, and other prayers that have never seemed to work for me. Don’t get me wrong, I believe in prayer, but I also believe that you can’t pray for those who don’t want to be prayed for. I’m far from perfect and I expect God to still watch out for me regardless of what I do in my daily life. Now this doesn't mean shoot someone and be like “yeah its okay, I got Jesus” because no, it’s not. What it means is God got me through some rough times in my life, one of which was the election. As you can tell I talk about this ‘election’ like it was WWIII but it was to me. I wish I could explain it and if I could maybe I could cope 100% with the loss, but I can’t. Anyways, my depression was somewhat relived with the power of prayer and the Holy Ghost (Spirit.) There I was on a December night, the time was around 3AM and my mind was racing with the threat of January 20th (Inauguration day.) With nothing else to do and for the first time since election night, I had a little talk with Jesus; by little I mean huge… I got down beside my bed, which means you know I’m about to have a serious talk, and folded my hands for a man to man talk with the light of my life. My first words, that I can recall, were “Why did you do this to me?” I wont lie, I was mad at God for over a month and a half. I prayed for months upon months that she would win, “Protect her God”, and he just let me down big time. Yeah I’ve said it’s all in God’s hands, but I didn’t know why in the world he chose that joke of a racist, xenophobic, trashcan spray painted orange to be put in the White House. But during my long talk with Jesus, it came to me, the revelation I was looking for, Trump needed to be President for something better to come. Now what do I mean by that? I mean that, yes Hillary would’ve made a good president in my opinion but in order for our country to be truly ‘Great’ something ‘Bad’ must happen, that was Trump. Regardless of your feelings towards Obama, you can’t say that Trump is better than, I don't know…Bush 43 and 41? No you cant! Id settle for a good ole country boy any day over a born rich, small loan of a million dollars, idiot and chief any day. But my conclusion of my talk was what I said prior: we will be even better one day in the end. Not to sound like a crazy pastor out to scare people into becoming Christians, legit the end of time for America. America isn’t the only country in the world and it’s not God’s only country either, but it’s important. America is #1 in world leadership, military, and economy; eventually you have to fall. America will never fall out of the top 5, but maybe it was time for a reality check like “hey buddy, if you don't check yourself before you wreck yourself you will be nothing.” I also refer to the literal end of time, Revelation, stars falling out the sky, the works. I don’t fear my place of burial and my soul’s direction when I die, I do fear the end of time before I get my life going. I don’t think the world has much longer according to my faith. It’s not because of the ‘gays’ or ‘liberals’ either, it’s just about that time. I feel like the world was taking a step forward since the last World War: civil rights in the US, more democracies around the world, space travel, science, living longer, advanced nations. Sadly, the world is getting back into more wars, nations are leaning more on the ‘conservative route’ which means to conserve civil rights and religion, finally I also think it could be 40+ years from now too. Because if we truly follow the Bible, we know that no one can literally project the end time, it’s just signs. Since time for God is everlasting, our lives may come and go before the end, but to God it could only be the 8th day. This post was starting in one direction but diverted to another. I will later write about my reading of “What Happened”, a Hillary Clinton memoir about her election loss, that it hopefully helps me come to a full close on the loss. Just remember to stay close to God if possible, don’t let politics completely rule your life, and know the education is key, just know what lock to put it in.
