I've got so many wips rn and what do I do? Start something new. I'm hopeless. But how am I supposed to resist the chance to write more fairy Time? ;)
CW for blood and injury
----------------------------------------------------------------
He drags himself to the fountain.
The battle would have been difficult for nine heroes. For one — even one as experienced as himself — it had been nearly impossible. A fight hardly even worthy of being called a battle.
No, Time thinks, grim and dizzy, as he digs his fingers into the dirt and attempts to sit up, it had been a pathetic struggle at best. He had barely escaped with his life.
The Shadow, it seems, has a vendetta against him. Not that he doesn’t have one toward all of the Links, but…
Time’s efforts land him back on the ground, shuddering as wet coughs tear through him.
…but it had felt like something beyond his usual distaste for the Heroes of Hyrule. As he had poured monster after monster through those cursed portals, as he had attacked with a sneer on his lips and a glint in his eyes, it had felt personal.
Perhaps, that is not so surprising.
Wavering, Time grits his teeth. Blood trails down his chin. Its warmth is in stark contrast with the icy chill that has taken root in his bones.
The Shadow’s sentiments hardly matter right now. It is not as though he could decipher them correctly if he wanted to.
His thoughts are scattered and panicked, his body failing, his vision going gray. He is mere inches away from salvation, from safety, and his time is running out.
Another stab of pain imprisons him in its steely grip. A muffled cry breaks through his tightly closed lips. His vision whites out for a moment, before returning fuzzy and distorted.
Desperately, he reaches out. Trembling fingers slip, slick with blood and monster gore. He collapses with a small splash.
The effect of the sacred water is instant. A ripple of magic runs through him, warm like a blanket and sweet like the sugar water he offers in hopes of regaining his fairy. In the next second, wings unfold from his back, his body shrinking to fit them.
He slips fully into the embrace of the shallow waters.
Time ends up on his side, liquid seeping in through the chinks in his armor and beading upon his wings. He blinks, slow and agonizing, trying to drag himself back to some semblance of awareness. But whatever delirious strength had born him here has fled and taken everything with it.
The water flows around him, glittering and cool. Gently, it soothes his injuries, carefully, it numbs them. But it’s not enough. He knows that now.
This fountain has been weakened. This fountain has no fairies left — save for himself — to imbue it with blessed strength.
No doubt, the monsters have driven them away. He can feel their distress, can imagine their flight, away from here and the encroaching darkness of evil and night.
Time gazes at the surrounding trees. They are mere shadows now, hazy and grayish. Twilight is long gone, bringing with it its brilliant purples and pinks and oranges. Storm clouds cloak the usual speckling of stars and block out the dismal light of the moon.
Not that Time minds that. Without its depressive glare, he feels calmer.
If he has to fade away, he would rather do so beneath an angry sky, curled in the fountains that have always been his haven, in the form he feels most comfortable in. The form he cannot comprehend, yet treasures all the same.
The waters turn black with his blood, feathery wisps of it floating out and away from him. He watches it with disinterest. Everything feels far away now. Even his need to survive, to return to Malon.
He tries to grasp for it, to bring it back to the forefront of his mind. But his efforts are for naught. And what good would it do him anyway? He is too weak to move. He spent his remaining energy on the desperate gamble of stumbling here. Hoping, praying that the magic he felt calling him was still active. Was still alive.
Something rustles in the bushes. A creature, most likely, scampering about, unperturbed by his wavering presence. He is so small now he would be surprised if anyone could see him. Or hear him.
His blood, however, is another matter altogether. Who knows what beasts have tracked the scent?
He shifts slightly and a groan slips out before he can stop it. It doesn’t matter though. Whatever horrors seek him cannot measure up to the pain he is already enduring. The Shadow has the power to turn one’s own body against them. No wolf or bear has that ability.
Something large and dark emerges from the shadowy foliage. Piercing blue eyes glare into his. Time tries to focus on them, tries to decipher their strange familiarity. But the world seems off-kilter, pain turns everything distant.
I’m sorry, Malon. He thinks as the form moves toward him, looking to his fading eye almost like the clouds that hover above them. I’m sorry that I broke my promise.
And pup…I’m sorry I couldn’t do more.
“Time?” He hears the voice from very, very far away, growled more than spoken, a rumble like thunder before a downpour of rain. It cracks at the end, splintering like his bones when the Shadow had swung his sword too high, too fast for him to evade.
Time wants to drag himself up, wants to comfort this being he is certain he knows. But he lacks the strength to so much as raise a finger.
And when he is lifted with a gentleness he cannot comprehend, when something soft and warm envelopes him, something that murmurs, “safe” in tones he knows — he doesn’t even attempt to break free.
If this is death, it is wonderful. ---------------------------------
He must lose himself soon after that. Because when he opens his eye it is an act of awakening, surfacing from the unfeeling deep.
Time stirs, sighing as that same warmth of before embraces him. The pain that had torn him apart has dulled greatly, leaving behind only a ghost of what it once was. And though he isn’t certain why it’s gone — or even if that is a good omen or bad one — he can’t truly bring himself to care.
He is comfortable here, drifting in this haze of dark, and he doesn’t want to disturb it. It has been so long since he felt like this (perhaps, since the start of the heroes’ journey). It has been so long since he slept, actually slept.
“Old man?”
Something damp and cool nudges at him. His bed of plush fur (fur? His mind questions blearily) quivers at the movement.
“Hey, old man. Can you hear me?”
Time hums, a low sound that grates on his abused throat.
A sigh of relief. His sanctuary shifts again.
“Thank Hylia. I thought we’d…I thought…”
Time frowns. There it is again — that voice he knows, usually so strong and joyful, not shattered like broken panes of glass. The voice that ignites something in him, a protective instinct as strong as he feels toward Malon. The voice that reminds him of their love and the miracle that will come of it.
Reluctantly, he drags his eye open.
At first, he can make out very little. But a few blinks and his vision clears enough that he can see the thick gray fur that surrounds him. He is nestled on Twilight’s back, he realizes, sluggishly, situated so his pup can keep an eye on him, even reach him if he cranes his neck.
Those crystal blue orbs meet his and there is something broken in them. Time has never seen such emotion in a wolf’s eyes before.
“I thought I’d lost you.”
He shouldn’t be able to understand that sorrowful growl, and yet, Time can hear the words as clear as day.
That…is a mystery he will decipher later.
“‘M sorry, pup,” he croaks. His wings flutter gently. “‘M sorry.”
Twilight must have found him lying there in his own blood, hardly clinging to life. To have come upon such a sight…
Guilt wells within him. Time swallows against it.
Twilight shakes his proud head.
“You can’t scare me like that. I can’t even scold ya like you can me.” He narrows his eyes. “Not that that’s gonna stop me from trying.”
Time huffs an attempt at a laugh. “I don’t…don’t doubt that.” He grows somber once more. He feels unconsciousness tugging at him again. But before he falls, he must at least say this. “You saved me. You shouldn’t-shouldn’t have had to. But I thank you for it.”
Twilight gazes at him for a long moment. “Of course. I love you, old man. Malon loves you. I never would’ve left you there. I never even entertained the thought. So, no thanks are necessary.” He cocks his head. “Although, gotta admit I’m a little sore about the fairy secret.”
Time resists the urge to roll his eyes. “You keep your own transformation a secret. Why…why should I not keep mine?”
“Oh, you can keep it from everyone else if you want. Just not from me.”
“What makes you s-so special?”
“I’m your descendant,” Twilight answers drily. “So, how do you do it? This isn’t an after-effect of what they…what happened to you…is it?”
Time shakes his head. “No,” he murmurs, struggling to stay alert. “I’ve always been able to do this.”
Twilight is silent for a moment. Then, “I came across a stray fairy when I was trying to get you back to camp. She was the one who healed you. She called you a child of the fairies. Not ‘brother’ like Hyrule. Their child.”
Time stares dazedly at the shrubbery surrounding them. They have always called him that. Even Tatl had. But hearing it now, from Twilight, raises new questions. Questions he supposes have always been there, hovering in the back of his mind. But that he has never bothered to ponder.
The quiet stretches and Time can’t decide how to break it. So, he merely lets it be and snuggles deeper into Twilight’s fur, suddenly immeasurably grateful that his descendant’s secondary form is a wolf.
Powerful and gentle in equal parts. It fits his pup well.
“But never mind that now,” Twilight says, as though sensing Time’s exhaustion. He sighs. “You need your rest. You comfortable up there, old man?”
Time nods. “Soft,” he mumbles, drowsily.
Twilight nuzzles him again and humor is in the movement.
“Good. Go to sleep then. I’ll watch over you.” His tone grows serious, unyielding. “Nothing will touch you while I’m here.”
A slight smile lifts the edges of Time’s mouth, even as a voice cries out within him, protesting this display of weakness, this terrible burden he has put on his descendant. But he is so, so tired. Too tired to rise and be the stalwart leader he knows he should be.
His wings spread flat upon his back, like a shield. Darkness crowds his vision, numbing his thoughts and weighing down his still-sore limbs.
“Thank you, pup,” he whispers, with what little strength he has left.
He is gone before he can hear Twilight’s reply.

Okay but how many "werewolf" sightings happens when Twilight was younger and what's the funniest one?
More than he hopes his parents ever find out about, but the number is actually pretty low considering. Twilights a pretty careful person, and guards his ability well.
...though there is a rumor flying around of a mysterious blue-eyed wolf that can turn into a human. Kids took off with it a bit, now it’s somewhat of an urban legend (much to Twilight’s annoyance, and Wild’s amusement)
And I don’t know about funniest werewolf sightings, but there were a bunch of rumors floating around after the Zoo Incident. Plus there was the time Twilight was maybe three and turned into a puppy in the middle of the grocery store

Me before completing the forest temple: okay I get that ocarina of time is fun and nostalgic for people but it’s a bit of a stretch to call it one of the greatest video games of all time
Me after completing the forest temple: By revealing that Link is not a Kokiri, but a Hylian, the game effectively strips him of his humble origins amongst a group of people that already fail to recognize him in his adult form. Thus, kokiri village instantly becomes a location that is no longer Link’s home in any sense, exacerbated by the fact that the game now loads up in the temple of time instead of Link’s bedroom— he is a stranger in the only place that has ever been familiar to him and he is depressingly reduced to his destiny alone. However, the subsequent introduction of the time travel mechanic, which allows the player to travel from the horrific apocalyptic future back to the idyllic past of Link’s childhood, gives new meaning to the idea of this “destiny”. In effect, Link is not a stock “chosen one”, but a protagonist who consciously decides to fight onwards. Link’s dual existence as a child who knows the grim future and as an adult who was powerless to stop disaster gives a sort of desperation to his character, because while it brings the player relief to revisit the Castle Town that is populated by cheerful villagers instead of lurking zombies, the story can only be progressed through the acknowledgement of reality — the decision to make those seven years pass again. Therefore, both the player and Link as a character must be proactive in their heroism and make the conscious choice to struggle onwards despite the darkness that permeates—

You're big on Zelda, so I'm curious. How would you rewrite TOTK, if given the writer's room?
Fun question! *cracks knuckles* Let's answer it.
I've answered about the disconnect between BotW and TotK before, so I'm going to take some of those ideas and run with them here.
I'm taking the intended route, for the sake of keeping coherence rather than just making up an entirely new Hyrule from scratch. Link and Zelda are the same as they are in BotW.
To start off, I like the Zonai.
Tumblr media
I like that they're an entirely new race of people in Hyrule. I love how weird-looking they are. I love that they're not human race #87.
Tumblr media
I also love their bastard not-Zonai lovechild thing. If we saw more examples of Zonai, I would love for this funky lil dude to be part of them, kind of like how the Zora have a ton of variation between them.
Tumblr media
So why don't we do that? Why don't we give them a kingdom?
And why don't we put some meat on the bones of what was already built?
Tumblr media
There are Zonai-esque ruins all over the Depths, mostly in mines for Zonaite.
Their color palette matches. Rauru's braids and Sonia's earrings match brightblooms.
Tumblr media
And the three dragons, who have Zonai features (segmented, color-edged hair, long ears, blunt muzzles, scale beard mouths), could have been a catalyst.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A catalyst for what, though?
It starts with the Depths themselves, and the dragons breaking free.
Tumblr media
See, in TotK, the three elemental dragons all dive in and out of the Depths chasms. There's no explanation as to why, and the only explanation we have for the chasms forming is that it was like...geysers of Gloom.
However, the dragons in BotW are confirmed to have carved these canyons:
Tumblr media
So let's go back in time a little.
The Zonai live in the Depths. They're underground, away from all the chaos that Hyrule has ever had to endure. They worship the bargainer statues as gods, they collect the souls of those above that drip down into the world below.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They have a rich mining industry, and coliseums for their greatest warriors to test their mettle against captured monsters.
Tumblr media
They have their Secret Stones, and the one who's allowed to hang onto those is their leader.
That'd be young Prince Rauru.
The elemental dragons, Dinraal, Naydra, and Farosh, are testaments to why no one can be allowed to have the Secret Stones. They were consumed by their power, literally.
One day, they break free, as if summoned by an unknown force. They tunnel through the ground and into the sky, connecting the world below to the one above.
Tumblr media
The Hylians cautiously venture below, or the Zonai above. Prince Rauru, keeper of the Secret Stones, and Sonia, High Priestess of Hylia, meet.
They fall in love.
They marry.
Tumblr media
Their marriage marks a unity between the Surface and the Depths.
(Maybe throw in a lil Skyward Sword continuity, mention that while Hylia sent the humans to the sky, the Zonai fled underground to avoid Demise, to keep the Secret Stones out of his grasp. You don't even have to name drop him, just say they went down to avoid destruction.)
Suddenly, Hyrule (the center part of the map, based around the Great Plateau, not the whole sub-kingdom conglomerate it exists as in BotW) undergoes a technological boom. Ganondorf, neighboring leader of the Gerudo, is interested. He talks trade with now-king Rauru, but there's the sub-plot of trying to get his secrets, which he steadily grows obsessed with.
Meanwhile, the Gerudo make their own expedition into the Depths.
Tumblr media
There. The stage is set.
Now Zelda falls into the past.
Tumblr media
She's found by Rauru and Sonia. Adopted as their daughter, more or less.
Also, the two of them have a small child. Nintendo, you CAN'T set them up as "they're her ancestors" and then kill them childless, descendants don't work like that. Zelda's immediately endeared to the kid, who reminds her of Link. Lil half-Zonai girl with a wooden sword who swings it at anything that moves. There are memories, it's cute.
In the past, Zelda witnesses, real time, Ganondorf going mad with power. They get along well at first, he's cordial, polite, a model diplomat. But she finds his troops in places they shouldn't be, confronts him about it and gets brushed off.
She tells Rauru, he's unwilling to throw suspicion onto Ganondorf. They're semi-friends and diplomacy is important! He's got to run this kingdom right. He can't fail, this is the biggest thing he's ever done!
(Sprinkle in a parallel to BotW Zel's fear of failure)
Some of the memories fill in gaps about Rauru's power, also. He's got what Link can do, minus Recall. Ultrahand and Fuse mainly, but Rauru's been experimenting with Ascend, excited because it'll make passage between the Depths and the Surface so much easier, and we see where Zel gets her scientific excitement from. Regardless of how different they look, they ARE family.
Ganondorf and Rauru get into a fight one day. A BAD fight. Maybe because Zelda tipped Rauru off, and despite telling her no, Rauru looked into it anyways. Regardless, they march out in opposite directions, and Zelda overheard it in the hallway. As Ganondorf leaves, he gives her the most SCATHING glare.
He then declares war on Hyrule.
Rauru makes a bid for allies, trying to get enough manpower to fight Ganondorf's impressive military. It's a struggle at first, but Zelda steps in, being the leader she's skilled at being and telling the others how crucial it is that they help. Ganondorf, meanwhile, turns to forbidden arts in his rage against Rauru, gets infected by Gloom/Malice, becomes scarily powerful. First Blood Moon. The Gerudo are kind of unnerved by him.
We see Zelda and Sonia helping with the war. Sonia's got light powers, Zelda's are stronger, together they can destroy entire ARMIES of monsters, saving their warriors on the battlefield. A few instances of Little Princess trying to be involved like the grown-ups are, getting huffy when she's told no.
In the aftermath of each fight, Rauru runs around, sealing away the monsters' latent energy with green spirals. That's where the Shrines come from, though in the past, they're Luminous Stones—it's all faded by present day, the light bled out of them.
Sonia is on the battlefield against Ganondorf one fateful night, Little Princess wanders onto the field, both the girls panic about it, and Sonia tries to run away with her while Zelda affords them cover. THAT'S when Ganondorf strikes her—he's fast like a ninja, rushes past Zelda, strikes Sonia.
She falls. Little Princess tumbles.
Zelda races to Little Princess's side, picks her up to run away with her as Ganondorf gets Sonia's stone, and he transforms into the Demon King. He raises his army. Little Princess screams, and we see an uncontrolled blast of Hylia's power, like an erratic attempt at what Zelda did at the end of BotW.
Tumblr media
It fritzes, Zelda hugs her tight and ducks down to shield her, and the power cascades across the battlefield, affecting monsters AND people alike. The war is in shambles. Ganondorf stares at the child and her guardian, and retreats in a hurry.
Cue Rauru running to their side.
He grieves his wife. Little Princess is kept safe by Zelda. The Gerudo shun Ganondorf and join Rauru's side, and everyone involved in the war dedicates everything to one final assault against Ganondorf, one trap to finally END him, to force him into the Depths and fight him on the Zonai's own turf. The Secret Stones are distributed. Rauru knows what he has to do, and at the climax of the final battle, he uses his Secret Stone to amplify his sealing magic, knowing it'll kill him in the process and locking Ganondorf away in the Depths.
Except, it's not that simple.
Tumblr media
Gloom bursts out of the newly trapped Ganondorf's chest, flooding the Depths, eliminating everyone in its path. That includes the Sages, the assaulting army, and the VAST majority of the Zonai. Its sole purpose is to gather enough strength over time for Ganondorf to break his shackles, because the Gloom wants OUT.
(Subtly implied that the Gloom is the first iteration of Demise's curse of hatred, maybe.)
And Zelda is alone. Trapped in the past, stuck with Little Princess, her Secret Stone, and the last of Mineru's notes.
Gloom continues to fume out of the Depths, so they're sealed off. The Blood Moon keeps spawning new monsters, so Little Princess and the remainders of the construct caretakers are sent up to the sky, for her protection. Zelda's the one that orchestrates it. Her people once hailed from the sky, and it's always been known as a place of safety for them.
Is this self-referential to the history she's building, or a Skyward Sword reference? Who knows.
They go skyward.
Then the Master Sword appears, and Zelda knows what she has to do. It's compounded, of course, by crushing guilt over the fact that Sonia's death happened on her watch. She tells Little Princess to look out for the world ahead, tells her to be strong, and brave, and everything she wishes her dad had told her. Then ends it with a final message.
"I'm leaving you something very important. Take good care of it."
Then she goes off alone to become a dragon.
Tumblr media
Present day.
Link's not guided by Rauru, he's guided by a strange, beautiful woman who looks kind of like Zelda (albeit with Zonai hair, eyes, and long claws), who has a deep regret for the world below and who knows the lonely world above like the back of her hand. She teaches him the basics of his powers as he visits the shrines.
The Great Sky Island is otherwise normal.
You go to Hyrule. The Light Dragon's the one that breaks the cloud barrier, and as she does so, she sheds a single tear. By the time you get to the tear's location, it's spread a mural of the memory it contains around it.
Whenever you Recall a tear, the Light Dragon sheds a new one somewhere else, and it's up to you to follow.
You're chasing Zelda, twice over.
Besides that, Hyrule's Surface is...largely unchanged. I'm still upset that the pirates assaulting Lurelin weren't ACTUAL pirates, so guess what, they are now. Splinter faction of Yiga. Also, River Zora take over Lake Hylia, there's a spat between them and the Sea Zora, and Yona is the princess of the Rivers.
Then you've got the Depths.
That's where you find the ruins of the Zonai civilization, and you start piecing together the world it contains on your own. You aren't told, you're SHOWN.
Rauru's ghost finds and guides you here. He has a moment of "hey, isn't that MY arm?", upgrades your abilities or shows you how to use them more efficiently (ups your build limit, shows you how to un-Fuse, teaches you DEscend, gives you Autobuild, things like that), then DIES-dies. You escort his poe soul to a Bargainer statue.
The biggest change to the Depths, though, is that under the Gerudo Desert, you find PEOPLE.
So remember how the Gerudo launched their own expedition into the Depths in the past? How the Gloom killed almost everyone and the world below was sealed off?
There were a sparse few survivors of the Zonai, and some unfortunate Gerudo researchers that also got trapped. The people down there now are descendants of both. They're not Zonai anymore, though.
Tumblr media
They're Lomei. They evolved like how the Rito evolved from the Zora in Wind Waker. Their tribe name comes from the Zonai word for "loneliness."
Regardless, they're initially inhospitable to Surfacers, because Surfacers are how they ended up how they did. If you sneak into their city, you're captured, like a few unfortunate Zonai Survey Team members that have wandered in, only YOU can escape via Ascend. OoT Gerudo parallel.
You can earn the Lomei's trust by doing things for them (maybe beating all three labyrinths as a rite of passage?), and then they let you into their cities. They've got their own brand of tech based off of old Zonai designs. One of the Lomei scientists is working on a mechsuit—that'll be the sage that Mineru passes her stone down to. And it fits doubly, both because the Lomei ARE the descendants of the Zonai and because the Lomei technician and Mineru are both scientists.
The Lomei people give you more pieces to the complicated Zonai-Hylian puzzle, and they're the ones that first tell you the legend of the dragons-from-Secret-Stones. So you can either learn it from them OR get it revealed in Zel's later memories.
Besides that, the present plot is pretty much as normal. Still the same bosses. Still the same sages-help-with-everything, though each sage you rescue gives you another piece of what really happened at the final fight (rather than the same cutscene over and over), telling you about how Rauru sacrificed himself and the effect it had on the rest of the Depths.
I will change where the Ganondorf's Army fight takes place, though. It's ACTUALLY very hidden, like the game was trying to imply it to be when you chase around Kohga. You do still have to do that, but he accidentally directs you to a place that's hidden in the tiniest crevice near Hyrule Castle, one that's very easy to miss and sitting in a veritable sea of Gloom. Once you finish the Kohga quest, a poe hovers outside of the crevice, which leads into an even deeper chasm that leads to the Underdepths.
The poe's your help to get through the maze there, and wherever it goes, Sundelions bloom at the corners. If you go early, before getting everything done, you have to navigate that place yourself, and it's a nightmare.
But you do it. You get to where everything started, and you beat the army, then Ganondorf, then he shoves his fist down his throat and goes dragon.
As he breaks through the ground and curls around Hyrule Castle, he SHATTERS it. The building crumbles to smithereens, crashing into the Depths below.
You beat Demon Dragon, Zelda catches you on her nose, it's over. You're in the spirit realm over sleeping Zelda.
The poe appears over your shoulder, drifts away from you, then materializes into Sonia. She says nothing, just activates Recall, turns Zelda back to normal, then cradles her in her arms. She gives her a kiss on the forehead, looks at you, then says the same line Zelda said to Little Princess ages ago, with the single change of one word.
"I'm leaving you something very important. Take good care of her."
She fades, as does the Spirit World.
You're falling.
Zelda's falling.
You catch her.
She wakes up, sees you, then hugs you and sobs into your shoulder.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Roll credits.
Bonus for the memory completionists, the True Ending has Zelda meeting the grown Little Princess up at the Great Sky Island, reconciling with her, both of them saying how proud they are of each other. Then Little Princess turns into a poe, and Zelda promises to take her to the Depths so she can be with her parents again. As they walk away, Sonia's poe tails after them.
And THAT is a way longer post than I expected to write. Whew.

Times that the chain forgot Wolfie is Twilight (Fluff for day 3 of Febuwhump)
Here's some fluff to soothe the soul.
Wind
Was super tired that day
Saw Wolfie laying down and flopped on top of the wolf
Sailor was asleep as soon as his head was resting on Wolfies side
Twilight didn't mind, but he definitely doesn't prefer it
It becomes a regular occurrence later, much to his chagrin
(he doesn't really mind that much, he's just keeping up appearances)
 Warriors
Wakes up from a nightmare
Ends up cuddling with Wolfie
Maybe cries a little bit
Twilight politely doesn't bring it up the next morning
He does keep a careful eye on Wars the next day and offers silent support
Four
He doesn't forget as often as the others might
But every so often he finds himself idly scratching Wolfies ears
Red does it most out of the colors
But they all do it
Twilight doesn't mind
He low-key enjoys it from time to time
Hyrule
Rulie sometimes forgets Twilight is Wolfie
And that Wolfie is a nice wolf
He has startled in a sleepy state and drawn his sword on Wolfie before
Twilight takes note to approach slower as Wolfie
Or just transform back to his hylian form
He would never hold it against Rulie, he understands that wolves are not the nicest
Time
He lives on a ranch
He for sure has been around farm dogs
When he's super focused/distracted he’ll give Wolfie commands
The one that got the most laughs was when Wolfie/Twi was trying to snap Time out of his own head
And Time on impulse told Wolfie “No bite.”
Neither lived that down for a while
Legend
He also wakes from a nightmare
Lege decides that he needs a walk and Wolfie goes with
He ends up venting at some point
Twilight never mentions the stuff Legend said that night
But makes sure that Wolfie is there to supervise more late night walks as they seem to help
Sky
Completely forgets that Twilight is Wolfie
Baby talk
Skritches
Treats
Praise
The whole nine yards
Twilight learns to appreciate it, despite the others teasing
It's kind of nice to get praise just for existing sometime
Wild
Wild almost never forgets
However, if injured or really out of it, he completely forgets
Wolfie becomes like his companion in his era
Subject to all the cuddles and silly questions and weepy venting
Wild has admitted to Wolfie his fear of disappointing Twilight
Twi always makes sure to reassure Wild when he's more aware of reality

The Unification of Hyrule and the Gerudo
When Rauru ascended the throne as the first King of Hyrule, he was welcomed by the regional peoples of Hyrule, who knew of his heroic deeds. While maintaining friendly relations, the regional governments eventually formed a unified federation with the Kingdom of Hyrule at its center.
There was one group of people who voiced opposition, however. These people were the Gerudo. The Gerudo had established a country in the desert, and their culture was far more advanced than that of the other peoples in Hyrule. Their most distinguishing feature at the time was that they were currently ruled by a king, the one male born to them every hundred years.
For the Gerudo, who possessed a strong martial culture and considered themselves to be sufficiently powerful on their own, Rauru’s new kingdom seemed little more than a temporary upstart that would quickly fade. As the King of the Gerudo, Ganondorf harbored an innate distrust and hostility toward the sudden appearance of the Kingdom of Hyrule, which had eschewed war to build a united federation on a foundation of peace.
Image Caption: The King of the Desert, Ganondorf. The Gerudo closely resemble Hylians, but Ganondorf’s ears are round. Perhaps this is a sign of his fate to stand against the gods.

...turns out sticking around after your era to help out another hero while using shadow magic to be in wolf form can have unforseen consequences, who knew. Certainly not Twilight.
At least this means he can go back to the twilight realm and hang out with Midna again (after lots of troubles to get there, that is, but since he's a twili now it's way easier than when he was fully hylian).

I’m not sure if I’ve said this one already or not, but I wanted to tell you anyways! It’s about the humans-are-not-hylians AU!
You know the uncanny valley evolution? That thing where when you look at something that resembles a living being too closely and some part of your mind is screaming that it’s not whatever it looks like and to get away from it? Imagine that with the reader! They can spot shapeshifters easily because of this, but it instills the same extreme primal fear we’d experience, so it might be hard for the reader to confront them at first and they’ll instead just tell the Chain for a while.
This might be a double edged sword, though, because when Twilight is in his wolf form, the reader still gets that same feeling when “Wolfie” is looking at them, whether or not they know it’s Twilight. In this case, the first time the reader spots Wolfie approaching the camp, they probably freak out and try to avoid him, even if the Links are okay with him or if he seems familiar to them.
The bottom line is that wolf isn’t a wolf, so what is he?
“It’s okay, he’s a really friendly wolf!”
“...That’s not a wolf...”
Sorry i took forever to respond!! im slow as always, life is too busy for even my hobbies lately sobs 😭
bro this is especially true bc someone looked back at TP games and how he looks in his “wolf” form, and apparently he is actually a dog lol - like at most a wolf-hybrid, i added this in to support this Hyrule-is-hella-Uncanny AU lol

The Yiga clan members have never fooled you, not Once in person, unlike back when hyrule was still a video game
it was the constant smell of bananas, the way their eyes were always a little unfocused or they moved their head to move around their eyes, rather than their actual pupils moving, the facial muscles all stiff, usually stuck in an uncomfortable smile-
it makes more sense once u realize that they technically have a mask under that glamour hylian face, but its never not hilarious to see Wild look over his shoulder at you before approaching a lone traveler on the roads and watch him get increasingly frantic to get ur attention to see if theyre yiga lmao
u bet ur ass every link was relying on you on their adventures to know shapeshifters/illusions/glamours/etc. on sight and tell them to better prep them/warn them
tbh they all got at least a little better at being able to tell the difference the longer they heard you point out stuff/talk abt exactly why it was off-putting
(that said some of ur heroes are better at it than others, both in general, and certain aspects of it: like Twilight isn’t able to pick up illusions/glamours for the life of him, literally, sometimes, but he is more likely to figure out shapeshifters by scent after you Guided him)
(no, your heart didnt crack a little after learning that the boys had a harder time with deceit after you stopped playing the game = “were forced to leave after their adventure” bc while they were better at detecting it, they werent on ur human level yet..)
(…the only deception you ever really fell for was Koholint. It was so painful too, because Legend quietly disclosed to you one late night that you would constantly get strange feelings/uncanny disturbances, but were never able to put a name to it for him, which both made you jumpy/paranoid on the island, but made him regret ever letting his guard down all the more or feel guilty for what felt like dismissing ur instincts the more he relaxed… Legend never doubted your sense for the uncanny ever again. He takes it seriously every time now.
When you feel as if you should apologize, he tells u not to, that these days he takes comfort in it actually, it makes him feel safer. Legend looks to your face for confirmation that something isn’t a dream, and if you look at ease, so is he.)
its the way you casually laugh at Twi being called “Wolfie” when he’s obviously a wolf-dog hybrid or just a big dog
and when everyones confused u just explain smth smth, wolf heads are larger in comparison to their body, their legs are narrow, their paws are big, dogs are like the oppposite, or way more proportional like “Wolfie” is, dogs bob around when they run like “wolfie”, and have shorter legs,
smth smth wolves cant have eye colors like blue, only dogs/wolf-dog hybrids can silly-
and Wolfie is just like, 😐 😑 😐
turning around and walking away, bc hylias knotted fucking braid- he really cant escape the dog accusations now, you literally used ur freaky truth-seeing instinct and read his shapeshifter ass from head to literal toe/paw-
Wild/Hyrule look fascinated, Wind and Legend cant breath theyre laughing so hard, Time is coughing suspiciously into his fist and pops back up smirking, Four is laughing but also encouraging you to keep going, Sky is desperately trying to keep it together while also trying to get Twi to come back lmao, Wars is literally pointing and laughing ashkljdl-
ok but Twi gets his revenge later by tricking you into yapping abt how Hyrule/Four/Time all kind of look “off” sometimes too
like how u swear Rulie is glowing subtly when the moon is full, or how the world distorts behind his back sometimes,
or how Four’s eyes change colors all the time, his fighting style looks like its rotating between 4 diff ppl’s techniques,
or how Time’s face wrinkles like smile lines/crows feet at the corner of his eyes will randomly appear and disappear, how he’ll have some stubble one day then 3 days later despite having not shaven (u literally saw him wake up and do his morning routine) it’ll disappear like it was never there in the first place-
and when Twi has stopped asking you abt the others as they all reel over the knowledge of what all u can tell abt them,
(ur quietly relieved no one asked abt Wild.
You resolve urself to just lie if anyone asks, even to Wild himself.)
☆
hey im alive!! im slow yknow how it is,
ive been doing too much, and i cant wait to be done with this class so i can have free time guilt free again 🥲
god thats one good thing abt getting out of academia i dont miss and would only wish on my worst enemy,

Finally did all of my Cryptid boys in color! (And also decided on a Wind design).
I experimented a lot with Twilight, Wind, and Wars. For Twilight, his most prominent feature (his facial markings) are usually covered by his bangs so I wanted to see what it would look like if he tied his hair back. For Wind, I finally found a design that I like! You guys voted a while back and I completely ignored it. Sorry. (He’s not usually gonna look like this anyway, he’s gonna look like a Hylian). And the same goes for Wars! He’s most likely gonna look like a Hylian or a sword, but this is his Sword Spirit form.
Anyway! Sky, Hyrule, and Time are my favorites out of this batch! What about you? Do you have a favorite?

What do you think about the idea of Legend's rabbit characteristics carrying over to his Hylian form?
Like- better hearing, twitchy nose, ☆bunny flops☆ (bunny flops are basically where a rabbit feels super content/safe and them flops into a puddle of happy on the floor and naps for an indeterminate amount of time)
If you give Legend any bunny traits in Hylian form, how does the Chain react/think about it?
I have seen some fanart of legend and ravio with bunny front teeth and it's so adorable I love it so much lol
I do like the idea of twilight and legend both having part of his animal characteristics passing over to their hylian forms
Especially the better hearing/better sense of smell thing
Legend with a twitchy nose is taking me out ouuugh
Bunny flops sound so adorable I can see him being comfortable enough around say, hyrule, to flop on top of him and nap
Also sky cause I'm a sky+legend duo truther lol they nap together in a cuddle pile, wind hyrule and wild join them too after a while and legend wakes up from his happy nap practically covered in links lmao
Twilight does the same thing but he subconsciously throws himself on the ground belly up like dogs do lmao
One of the chain scratching twilight's hair and his leg starts kicking like a dog's lmao
He goes to his bedroll to sleep and turns around in circles on top of it until he's satisfied and flops down to sleep like a dog too lmao
Anyway, twilight and legend doing something cute subconsciously cause of wolfie / bunny traits and the chain is dying trying not to say anything so they don't stop doing it cause it's so cute lmao
Also wild is recording the whole time in his slate and wind has a thousand pictographs lmao

# #. I WANT YOU MORE.
in which link has secretly been pining for the new librarian, and when he finds out you like someone he goes a bit batshit. warning : theres some blood and yandere content ahead !!
this took so long omg T_T testing and everything was hectic, but i hope you guys like it! this was written with botw or totk link in mind !! is it weird that I love Zelda so much but I haven't written much for it?? yes. but uh. LINK !!!
Tumblr media
Link had been blessed. That's what everyone told him. He was a hero. Someone who saved this land for more than a millenia. He weilded the legendary sword, the one said to seal the darkness. He was blessed by the Triforce of Courage, given to him by the gods themselves.
Link had many titles in life, many burdens he had to carry. It was his job, his duty as a citizen of Hyrule. His duty as the hero.
He had almost everything in life. An outstanding reputation, a good job that kept him steady and afloat. A big house, secluded from others but close enough to not be considered an outcast. Good cooking skills that could impress anyone. Girls flocking and cooing over him. Link was the perfect man for anyone. He had it all.
Except for you of course.
The cute castle librarian.
He first noticed you in the old, rundown, library. A place that definitely needed to be renovated. The hylian glanced around as he stepped into the room. Cracks and shatters littered the room, bookshelves were close to falling, and the roof just seemed to barely be holding up. Books were piled everywhere and anywhere the eye could see.
It was an impressive library, he had to admit. Just a bit outdated. Perhaps that's what gave the building its beauty though.
Link glanced over to the small door near the end of the library, noticing a person coming out of it. You must’ve been the librarian, he quickly realized. He sized you up and down, you looked… done, oddly enough.
Zelda was the one to first talk to you of course. You were the head of the library, so kind and soft-spoken. Links eyes stayed fixated on your form as you greeted him and Zelda, showing them around. It was obvious you were trying to impress the princess while still being as kind as you could.
However, Link watched closely, scrutinizing your form with his piercing gaze. He noticed the way you talked about the different books and architecture of the building in great detail. Usually people spoke about the details with great pride, flaunting how they were so well versed in the subject.
Yet Link could tell you were tired. Tired of your duties and being stuck in this library. The way you spoke sounded energetic, and the smile on your face could fool anyone.
Yet he noticed the way you deflated after speaking with the princess. As if you had said these words a hundred times over. It was all calculated. A prepared speech. You were tired. That much he could tell.
He was tired too.
☆
Link found himself gravitating to the library after his first visit. There was something about it that called to him. Perhaps the want to know of his ancestors and their accomplishments. Thats what he kept telling himself.
He wouldn't do much while there however, other than picking up a book ot two before taking a seat at the table closest to your desk.
He tried reading the books of course, and at first succeeded without much distraction. However from the corner of his eyes he watched as you worked. Placing books onto their shelves, helping out customers, and tidying up as best you could.
Link’s eyes followed your form wholly. Although he could still notice ths small details, like your walking being sluggish, the knight couldn’t help but gawk. You were just so captivating. So fluid with your movements.
The way you moved around so swiftly yet carefully, aware of what you were doing while still being carefree. You could balance various books in your hands, all in different sizes. You maneuvered across the children running around, being steady to not harm them.
A light laugh escaped your lips as you told them to be careful, this was a library after all.
Link could tell that laugh was genuine at the least.
The heroes gaze fell to his hands. He wondered how you could act so engaged while still hating your job. The book he held felt as if it weighed just as much as his sword now.
"Oh, if it isn't the princesses guard! Uhm, Link... right?"
Link’s head snapped up, his gaze meeting your own. He was quick to note that the library had become silent. He hadn't realized it, but it seemed as if it was only you two left in the library now.
"What brings you here?" You spoke with a soft smile on your face. A costumer service smile it seemed. You were probably just waiting for him to get up and leave so you could close shop.
You shimmied over next to him, eyes focussing on the book in his hands. "Ah, a book on the master sword. You must be reading about your ancestors, correct?"
Link nodded, as you came to sit besides him. "I can help if you'd like? I’ve been researching the master sword ever since I was young. I’ve always been fascinated by the legends and heroes that fought with it.”
You turned to him, “It’d be nice to learn from someone who actually wields it as well.”
You spoke with a smile on your face, it was bright and real. He noticed the way you glanced at the sword on the table. Awe and admiration in your shimmering eyes. It looked as if you wanted to learn about it for a while now.
Hm. A small smile grazed his face. Blue eyes shining down at you.
Perhaps this could blossom into a nice friendship.
☆
It seemed as if Sir Link was visiting your library more and more often as of late.
You couldn’t help but smile as you noticed him outside office window, seeing the familiar blonde hylian sitting at the desk closest to you. He always sat there, eyes glancing around for you before just sitting and silently waiting. You giggled, placing the book back on your desk before walking out of the small room.
Walking towards him, you reminisced, recallinghow much time had passed. It had been around a month since you first met the hero, asking him to collaborate with you.
It started off simple, researching the master sword while talking about the heroes of past. There wasn’t much meaning to it, in fact it was just pointless chatter.
I mean the both of you knew the same exact things anyways.
However, you couldn’t help but think of Link as some sort of idol. It was a practically a dream come true, being the wielder of the legendary sword. Almost every kid that had heard of it wanted to become the great hero.
It was an honor and a sign of courage.
But also a sign of power.
You sighed, well if you couldn’t keep the sword, you could at least be friends with the person that did.
So it was only obvious to propose your grand idea.
And ever since then, Link would visit whenever he was off.
Sure, you didn’t expect him to show up every other day, but Its not like you were complaining. Link was basically unreal. He had a pretty face, and great hair. He was quiet and mysterious, yet soft and kindhearted. Plus he could cook. Practically everything you could want in a man.
You tapped your fingers against the table, another sigh escaping your lips.
Hm. Too bad you were already engaged.
Sure it was a forced marriage, but you wouldn’t cheat. You couldn’t deal with that guilt on your conciseness. You had to do it for your parents.
Your soon to be partner wasn't a bad person. He just wasn't the right one for you.
You didn't like him.
If only you could make someone get rid of him.
Your eyes shifted to Link’s form, staring at him intently. A smile was on his face as he rambled on about his first time seeing the sword. There was a childlike joy on his face as he spoke.
He was experiencing an old memory. A vivid scene from his past.
You noticed Link seemed to be opening up to you more, speaking incessantly and happily. You couldn't help but smile too. He was just perfect.
Someone that was already wrapped around your fingers.
Link was opening up more and more to you throughout your time together. At first he was silent, just watching you speak. You were the one to hold most of the conversations, with him just humming or intensly nodding along. He was so serious it was kind of funny.
You knew he had gone through a lot, so you'd let him take his time. He could become closer to you as time passed.
It didnt take as long as you assumed however, as the shell he hid behind had begun to crack. He started to smile and laugh when you told him a dumb joke. He was relaxed around you, his stiff posture loosening with a soft look on his face.
He started speaking on his own as well. That was probably the biggest improvement. The first time you heard his voice you practically swooned.
Link opened up conversations now, speaking about his experiences and abilities.
Someone that was already yours.
“So Link,” you suddenly started, staring at the wooden table before you while placing your head on your palm. Might as well as do it. “Have you ever had a lover?”
You were nervous to look at him. It was an odd question for sure, and you weren’t certian if you were close enough to ask him. A moment passed. And then another. Sweat ran down your back. Perhaps you were right for being concerned, as Link was silent.
You couldn’t help but glance up at him, gazing into his eyes fearfully. However, instead of the disgusted and judging look you expected, you were met by red.
Links face was flushed scarlet, hot and warm. His eyes were wide and darting to every corner of the room, so obviously avoiding you. Their pretty blue color was accentuated by his reddened face. Magically, his pretty hair became disheveled, adding to the almost comical scene before you.
A small smile played on your face, mischievous and sly. You couldn’t help but giggle, "Have I struck a nerve?"
He looked away from you, albeit, while shaking his head. It surprised you honestly. He was oddly embarrassed for such a simple question...
A laugh escaped your lips, a joking tone laying on your tounge. "Really? I would've assumed the hero of hyrule would have a partner..."
You paused, watching his expression closely. He was just sitting there, listening to you intently. The blush on his face had slightly subsided, yet was still present on his pale face.
Was it right to say this now?
A smile grew on your face, elegant and sweet. Hiding your intent. "Especially since even I have one."
You looked closer.
It was subtle, but you could tell Link’s expression changed. His face fell, even if it was just slight. You could see his eyes grew wide, mouth slightly falling agape.
But as quickly as the shock arrived, it left.
A soft smile grew on Link's face, gentle and calm. It would've captured your heart if you didnt know him that well. It was so obviously sad it kind of hurt.
Eh. No. No it didnt.
"I'm surprised, you don't seem all that shocked...," you leaned forward against the table, placing your head in your chin.
The hylian simply shrugged, lip twitching as if he wanted to say something.
Suddenly Link stood up, stammering something about Zelda needing his help. It almost gave you whiplash with how quickly he tried to leave. What an obvious lie. You tried to hide the smirk peeking up on your face.
You didn't expect him to loose his cool that fast.
Instead, you mirrored Link's sad expression, standing up to place a hand on his shoulder.
"Ah, I'm sorry to have taken your time away from the princess..." You flashed him a smile, patting his shoulder while trying to convey a solemn expression. "I guess I'll see you later?"
He nodded, taking your hand off his shoulder and keeping it in his. You noticed that he hesitated for a moment, eyes fixated on your softer hand.
He brought your hand to his face, gently kissing your finger tips and knuckles before turning away. You gaped, holding your hand close to your chest. Subconsciously, it seemed, that Link did the motion.
And he left you in the dust, just like that. With your heart beating and your mind racing. A smirk grew on your face, shining brightly as you giggled.
Link was the right choice.
☆
Link was sure he knew everything about you. From your favorite book to how many fruits grew in your backyard; despite never being formally invited.
It wasn't unwarranted for him to... conduct experiments per say.
You always told him to research if he was ever curious about something. And doing it hands on was one of the best ways to get good information.
So he researched, learning practically everything there was to learn about you.
Including your lover.
He just hoped you'd forget about them. Hoping you realized you didn’t need them. Link was so much better, he could love and care for you more than they ever would. He could protect you better then they ever could.
Your lover wasnt even there half the time. They didn't care for you. They didn't love you. They weren't right for you—
crash
Link stepped back, startled. He reached for his sword, before a light sigh escaped his lips, relaxing. A pretty vase sat in front of him. Now broken and shattered. He was getting carried away it seemed.
But Link cared for you. He was capable of everything. He could protect you. He would always be there for you.
He would love you.
Link would always love you.
Although. Sometimes he couldn't figure out why.
Perhaps it was because you spoke to him as if he was normal. Being the head librarian led you to learning heavily about Link's ancestors, and of course, their legacies.
They were all courageous hylians, heroes that were blessed by the gods themselves. Heroes that held the triforce.
Heroes he had to live up to.
But you didn't treat him like that.
While yes, you commented on him being a hero, and how he was lucky enough to have everything, you still treated him like a regular hylian.
You didn't judge him for his mistakes. Nor his skills. You laughed with him as you would a friend, jabbing and joking with him. No matter what he did, you accepted with a smile. Speaking to him as a friend would.
With you, he was like he was any other person.
He was so glad to have you.
It could've also been your mannerisms. You were gentle and soft-spoken, helping others with no compensation needed.
You were a model to many. The embodiment of a worthy citizen.
Yet there was also an air of mystery surrounding you. As if you knew more than you let on. It made you oddly compelling.
He noticed how you payed close attention to things. Just by the way he would speak, you could tell how he was feeling. Just by glancing over at someone's expression, you could tell what they wanted.
Link especially noticed how you looked at him. How you paid so much attention to him.
And only him.
Or maybe it was the way you slept with all the light's off. In pitch dark, no light whatsoever. It made it absolutely perfect for him to just stand over you in the night, breathing heavily over your gorgeous face. His hot breath mixing with yours—
Link blinked, glancing down at the broken shard from the vase in his hand. He had clutched it too hard it semed, as blood coated his hand.
It steadily dripped to the floor. A small pool of blood seeping into your wooden floors. It was red. Deep and scarlet like.
So different from the blood of monsters he'd slain countless times before.
He wondered how scarlet red blood would look pooling out of your lover.
While looking up at the clock on your bedroom wall he smiled.
Right.
You should've been home soon.
And he was right here waiting for you. :)

Wind gets to be remembered
Fanfic prompt : Considering how important the hero of the wind was to the rito
What if they actually started war shipping Wind
Who kind of didn’t notice that and just thought they were happy he saved their dragon
Like Valoo is definitely someone they honor greatly because he gifted them his scales and gave them wings in their need to escape the Dead Sea
And he was extremely upset recently and nobody knows how to help him
Till a kid blessed by the wind gods appears and saved him
While also calming him down again
Inspired the son of the chief to try earning his wings
Then the one rito who could speak to Valoo was sent with him to go to an ancient temple called the earth temple where she reconnected with their ancestors
Also the dragon went and burns down a random fortress for his savior
And then the hero went on an adventure to find new land for all of them to live in
And also gained even more power in the form of seeing ghosts and stop time (phantom hourglass)
Succeeded at finding land
And everyone moved
And considering that breath of the wild has outright named him when speaking about the heroes of the past when they thanked the winds ,the twilight and time while Flora sounded like she couldn’t care less)
I am kind of surprised that the Rito and the Zora don’t care about someone who reunited them with eachother
Like imagine if the chain gets dropped off in rito village and the rito (who already were shown to not care THAT much for hylian heroes but still remember revali)
Just ignored everyone else but the ancient hero of their people (if the hylians get to remember the hero of time then the rito definitely remember someone as important to them )
The Zora too would just warship him because they would have never seen their sister race if not for the hero of winds
Like it would have been so funny if the random races had remembered the hero of winds
For all he did for them
Like they got to consider him the next best thing after sliced bread

Am I allowed to ask about your Legend losing magic brainrot or do I need to just wait for more ACAC to come out?
No, I'm always happy to talk about this one!
I've actually had this headcannon for a while now, but it hasn't managed to come up in a story much (mainly because I've yet to post that BoHH chapter) but here's a brief rundown!
Legend had really strong magic as a child (it's implied heavily in the manga)
His adventures helped him temper it and learn to use it in various ways.
The manga imply that this magic is at least partially a gift of the triforce, although I believe all hylians have at least some magic, even if only latent. His royal blood would also contribute in my HC
Legend's magic was at it's peak in his Oracle adventures, where he had literal goddesses at his side most of the time and was frequently called upon to use their instruments as well as some of his own
Legend lost his magic on the way home from Labrynna when he was caught in a magical storm and struck by lightning.
Here's how it works!
A hylian, and any other magic user, has what one would call a 'magical core'. it's not something physical, but it functions as a heart of sorts where magic is involved, and despite not being present in the physical sense, can be felt and voluntarily controlled to certain extents by skilled magic users. All of their magic flows through this core much like our blood cycles through us from our heart, and, much like a heart, it can weaken or grow stronger depending on the health of the mage, the frequency of use, and what level of magic is employed.
Legend's magical core is incredibly strong, but when he was struck by lightning and woke up on Koholint, that changed.
See, in my HC, the Windfish fully intended to bring him there. What he didn't intend to do was essentially disconnect body and soul in order to do so. As far as this HC is concerned, Legend may or may not have technically been dead for the entirety of that adventure, as his 'physical' form on Koholint was created by the Windfish the same as anything else there in order to house his soul while he wandered the island, hence why it all felt so real for him.
Meanwhile, one of two things had to be happening for the Windfish. Either he was (a) trying to repair damage done to the borrowed goddess-child/servant's body, or (b) he had to essentially make a whole new physical shell for Legend's soul when he returned to the waking world because the lightning blast incinerated the original one.
Either take works with this HC, and I use them interchangeably where it suits me >:)
Whichever you use though, one thing stays true regardless; when returning Legend's soul to his body, the Windfish's magic was still incredibly weak from what he'd been through (what with the corruption and dark magic he'd been fighting) so he did a sort of slap-dash job of it (not intentionally).
This results in a sort of disconnect between Legend's actual soul as his physical form, which includes the fact that his soul and magical systems are not connected to each other as they ought to be.
I don't know how many of you have dabbled in electronics, but it's something like if you were able to build a functioning robot, but someone pulled out all the wires and you had to hurriedly reconnect them all again, only to miss one that, while not essential to basic functions, does affect one particular lesser function. The Windfish forgot that proverbial 'wire' when reattaching soul and body.
Legend is not aware of this. Legend is only aware that he had magic before Koholint, and then he didn't when he came back.
However, when he came back, I imagine he had a lot going on initially, and it's all of that which he believes caused him to lose his magic, not the dream itself. See, Legend's return to the waking world had him stranded out at sea with only a bit of driftwood and, while he had his adventurers bag, it likely didn't have any food in it. So, while, being Legend, he probably had a canteen of fresh water at hand, that would only last him so long. Which means, between sun exposure, lack of food and fresh water, and trying to find his way home, by either paddling himself around or using his mer form, he probably had some issues.
Now, I like to say he used the mer form, as it offers him the best advantages, such as not needing to actually use his fresh water supply, as Mer can absorb water from their environment and are able to withstand both salt and fresh water, as well as they have faster propulsion and he wouldn't be directly exposed to the sun.
Maybe he even ran into other mer! Who knows! Since this is my HC though, I like to say he did, but because he tried to sort of travel with them for a while, it did catch attention from above, and in perhaps the worst turn of events possible, the mer school was attacked by pirates and one little hero just so happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time (again) resulting in our lovely vet taking a spear through the tail.
I say the other mer got scared off by the attack and our boy was sort of just stuck in survivor mode for a good while before, eventually, being picked up by Ralph, because I want it :)
Anyways, upon return to Hyrule, he's screwed over from lightning and injuries, and since swimming with a spear through your tail (and the resulting infection) isn't much of an option, yes, that dehydration and sun exposure did come into play regardless. So, in short, Legend was screwed over from the time he made it Hyrule to the start of his next adventure. I say that he had to relearn to walk in that time, and struggled with speaking, although that was likely a result of heavy depression and trauma and less a physical issue.
I don't think Legend really tried using his magic until the following adventure, which, while not canonically his, I like to say is Cadence, but it could be ALBW instead. When he can't access his magic as he used to, he assumes that, like his speech and mobility, it was just something he lost or damaged in his returning home (the mer thing is a curse and thus outside of his control, if you were wondering).
I think he took it pretty hard, naturally. But, being himself, he adapted around it by acquiring magical items of varied sorts that he could use to sort of replicate his old abilities and/or give himself access to new magic.
Now, a magical item is something that is powered by the users magic specifically, sort of latching onto the 'veins' of their magic automatically, so this is actually a great workaround for Legend! While he can't actually find/access his 'core' for himself, a magical item can, and it taps into his magic for him, thus allowing him to employ at least some of his magic.
Now, you can get angsty with this and say that, like with a heart, because Legend himself is not regularly accessing and employing is magic, it sort of causes a build up that could and might be slowly killing him, but that's only if you want the super angsty route >:)
Regardless, what Legend has is, as Wild put it, a magical disability; essentially the equivalent of being crippled (which Legend has already been, technically, although he's recovering still from that too). As far as mortals are concerned, there's no fix for it. His soul would literally have to be removed from his body, again, and then properly re-placed within, which, while possible, he would never go for, because he's an un-trusting little bunny.
This WILL come up in other stories (it'll play a major role in BoHH), but in none of them have I chosen (so far) to restore Legend's magic to the way it's supposed to be. As is, he's sort of jury-rigged himself a solution in the form of what are, in essence, the magical equivalent of adaptive technologies/mobility aides.
The one way this does benefit him, however, is that his magic is shrouded and also much less blaringly obvious to the magically sensitive/adept, which makes hiding his heritage/presence much easier, even if it does make everything esle much harder.
And that's it!
(If you're curious about fics where I've played with this idea before, then the Sicktember 2023 installments Legacies Burden, Deeper Than The Surface, and Footsteps Across History all briefly touch on the magical adaptive technology usage, and To Seek Hyrule's Star plays a little bit with the post-Koholint Legend, although less than I had originally planned when writing it.)

This was inspired by some lovely non-Hylian Wars fics, including warrior cat Warriors and swan Warriors. <3 Please check them out if you haven't already!
Princess Zelda introduced the new arrival as "Link." While Twilight had expected to meet a Link in this new era to continue their chain, he had expected someone less... fluffy.
Link stared back at the chain from his spot at Princess Zelda's feet. He was beautiful, Twilight admitted. He was happy to admit that the new Link was probably the most beautiful Link of the chain with a gorgeous white coat and a regal bearing. His tail was also so fluffy that Twilight felt his thoughts stuttering.
The new Link was a cat, and Twilight was dying to scoop him up and cuddle him. Unfortunately, the new Link with his furry little scowl, adorable cat-sized armor and blue scarf, and deliberately flexed claws looked like he would claw Twilight if he tried. Twilight still really wanted to try.
The new Link was also staring intently at Twilight. There were few things as intense as a cat staring unblinking at someone.
"I think he likes you," Princess Zelda said. She smiled at Twilight and clasped her hands in front of her. "He --"
Link stood up and stretched, and Twilight bit his tongue before he could coo about Link's big stretch! Link licked his mouth with his pink tongue and flashed tiny sharp fangs. His tail swished in the air behind him as he walked over to Twilight, rubbing against him once before trotting toward a door behind the throne. He paused and looked pointedly back at Twilight, tail flicking.
"He really likes you," Princess Zelda finished. "I think he wants to show you something."
"He seems very intelligent for a cat," Legend said. He sounded suspicious. He always sounded suspicious.
"He's quite intelligent," Princess Zelda agreed. "He might be in an... unusual form for a chosen of the Goddesses, but --"
Link had continued to walk away. Twilight hastily and clumsily bowed and excused himself to follow the cat. Link held his long, fluffy tail in the air as he walked in a dainty question mark behind him. All Twilight desired was to pet it and see if it was as soft as it looked.
The cat eventually stopped in a dark room. It had a single window which overlooked the stable. Link sat in the middle of the room and stared at Twilight, tail still twitching.
It was just the two of them. Twilight broke. He closed the door behind them and touched his crystal. The cat didn't flinch as Twilight transformed into his wolf form. Immediately, he crouched to the ground, his own tail wagging wildly behind him. "Hello," he greeted.
Link stood and offered a small, feline bow. "Hello. When you were introduced as the Hero of Twilight, I hoped you still had the ability to transform."
Twilight's tail slowly stilled. He sat down. "You... knew I could transform?"
"Yes. There are tales of the heroes of old, and Cia had a temple dedicated to those who held the spirit of the hero." Link's left ear twitched, and Link groomed it with one paw. Now that Twilight could see him better, he saw faint, old scars marring that ear. "One statue was of a wolf with strange markings."
This conversation wasn't going as Twilight expected, but cats had always proved strangely wise and clever when Twilight spoke to them in this form. "That sounds creepy. Who was Cia?"
"An insane sorceress." Link cocked his head and lowered his paw again. "One who trapped me in this form years ago when I refused to join her."
Twilight stilled. His ears pressed against his head. "Trapped in... Are you a Hylian?"
"I was years ago," Link said. "Before the war began, when I left my home to come to Castle Town. I met Cia on the way and she grew angry when I scorned her advances." Link's tail twitched behind him. "I've been trapped in this form ever since. I hoped the Master Sword would be able to free me, but no."
A whine rose in Twilight's throat. "Shit."
"Shit," Link agreed. "And since I've found at least one person who could understand me at last... I would like a saucer of cream, please."

Request! I put in this request before but I did it whilst I had really shit WiFi so I don't know if it ever sent! If it did please ignore this as I'm sure you're busy with you're two amazing series! 🤧🙏 I also may request future ones like this of realisations for the other members of the chain
The chain ends up on Skyloft! Whilst here, the chain goes their own ways to explore but reader sticks with Sky since he promised they'd meet Crimson! Upon meeting the bird and giving the big bird some lovin, a feather drops..reader picks it up and compares it to their hair..Sky seems to suddenly realise some feelings..and possessive ones at that. They will be mine.
Thank you for all of you're amazing writing recently! 💖

AAA WHY DIDN'T THIS SHOW UP IN MY INBOX-
ahem. Anyways-
~
"Sky, look!! Is this supposed to happen with Loftwings?" you ask, holding the red feather delicately in your palm.
Sky's gaze flickered from you to the feather, the bright red feather seemingly brightening your already perfect features. You didn't pluck the feather, no, so surely this was on purpose...?
Was is meant to fall...?
"Didn't you say something about Hylians in this era wearing feathers from their Loftwings as jewelry?" you ask, tilting your head slightly while looking at him.
He did recall the conversation, blushing slightly at the implication of you wearing his Loftwing's feather. You didn't know its ceremonial symbolism, though... perhaps that would work in his favor.
"Would you... like me to make you something? A pendant or an earring, perhaps? Whatever you'd like." he offered, scratching the back of his head lightly. A nervous habit of his.
Nodding, you hand him the feather, eagerly grinning at him.
By the gods, you were cute.
~
Within days, he had whittled a dainty earring for you, taking extreme care and delicateness to create the perfect piece for you. A piece you'd never want to take off, ever.
You almost immediately slip the earring in your right lobe, fastening the clasp so the earring is locked in place.
"Oh Sky, I love it!! It's perfect!!"
He smiles sweetly at you, gazing into your eyes.
"I'm so glad you love it. If Crimson drops another feather, why don't you give it to me and I'll make us a matching set?"
You gasp in excitement, already enthralled with the idea of matching with your hero.
"That's perfect Sky!! Thank you, Birdie~"
He chuckles under his breath, following behind you as you skipped slightly aahead of him, bright red feather billowing with your form in the wind.
The feather earring was a symbol of your tie with him, forever bonded. An idea he would relish in for eternity. For his goddess.
It was a shame he didn't tell you the entire truth.
Maybe one day.

Apparently people liked it when I posted LU headcanons the other day so uh here are some more !!
- Even in Hylian form, Twi has some dog-like instincts like, he's fiercely protective and loyal, but he will also chase birds or sticks or monsters and likes it when people play with his hair
- For a long while after being resurrected, Wild had no clue what sex was and his Zelda found this adorable but did explain
- Sky is a willing pillow for anyone and everyone
- Wind has adhd
- Wild and Hyrule will both just pick up dirt or insects from the side of the road and snack on them
- While he's not strictly opposed to physical contact, Legend struggles to accept hugs and affection as he's scared of letting himself be vulnerable around others for fear of losing it all (Koholint trauma yay)
- Warriors gets hit on in bars a lot and hates it
- Four has gotten arrested at least once
- Malon has saved Time's life before (interpret this how you will)
- She can also bridal carry him (I need to draw that at some point-)
- Wind climbs on the taller members of the chain
- Wind and Four both use their height and childlike features to get free stuff in towns
- Wild is very gentle around kids and they like him
- Twilight often gets dared to lift or carry stupidly heavy things just because
- Warriors has been the victim of attempted murder many times due to people blaming him for the war
- Both Wild and Time have very loose concepts of gender but don't think too hard about it so go with whatever people call them
Have a good day !
