I genuinely think Philomena Cunk interview questions are academically valuable in that 1. They force experts to consider ridiculous scenarios they never would have thought of having to deal with and 2. They test the ability of academics to explain their fields to laypeople and challenge the idea that “everybody knows xyz.” I think part of all higher level degree programs should involve having to get interviewed by Philomena Cunk

Me before completing the forest temple: okay I get that ocarina of time is fun and nostalgic for people but it’s a bit of a stretch to call it one of the greatest video games of all time

Me after completing the forest temple: By revealing that Link is not a Kokiri, but a Hylian, the game effectively strips him of his humble origins amongst a group of people that already fail to recognize him in his adult form. Thus, kokiri village instantly becomes a location that is no longer Link’s home in any sense, exacerbated by the fact that the game now loads up in the temple of time instead of Link’s bedroom— he is a stranger in the only place that has ever been familiar to him and he is depressingly reduced to his destiny alone. However, the subsequent introduction of the time travel mechanic, which allows the player to travel from the horrific apocalyptic future back to the idyllic past of Link’s childhood, gives new meaning to the idea of this “destiny”. In effect, Link is not a stock “chosen one”, but a protagonist who consciously decides to fight onwards. Link’s dual existence as a child who knows the grim future and as an adult who was powerless to stop disaster gives a sort of desperation to his character, because while it brings the player relief to revisit the Castle Town that is populated by cheerful villagers instead of lurking zombies, the story can only be progressed through the acknowledgement of reality — the decision to make those seven years pass again. Therefore, both the player and Link as a character must be proactive in their heroism and make the conscious choice to struggle onwards despite the darkness that permeates—

I have started Mob Psycho 100 because I accidentally paid for a month of crunchyroll and I do get why Reigen became a tumblr sexyman. I am not immune to his cringe fail personality. My favorite scene in the whole show so far is when someone asks him to exorcise a ghost from a photo and a graphic pops up on the screen saying like “This Is Reigen’s Special Move Where He Opens Photoshop and Photoshops The Ghost Out” and then he like doesn’t do a very good job photoshopping it either

Ok Goncharov was actually insane. I’m reading the Wikipedia page even though I was there at its inception and I still can’t believe Scorsese straight up admitted to “making” it. Like it got old fast but it was truly tumblr’s greatest creation and I am so proud to have witnessed history. We’ll never top that one.

I’m convinced nobody is asking the right hypothetical questions about the Truman Show. “Oh what do they do if he JERKS OFF?” In the movie they say the cut away with sex scenes. Yes it would be more awkward but they definitely would do the same thing here. “Why didn’t he start KILLING PEOPLE?” He doesn’t know he’s actually on TV until the very end. Until then, he just knows everyone around him is Up To Something. Also they gave him childhood trauma at a young age to make him risk averse on purpose. Also also. He does threaten to kill his wife a little.

The real question is how the fuck did they get anyone to watch the show for the first 1-3 years. He gets born on tv and that’s exciting I guess if you know what the whole premise is. But after that how are they gonna get networks to fund the Show About Some Baby. It’s literally just 24 hours of a baby + a shit ton of product placement. Round the clock gerber ad.

I love that Phineas and Ferb had a pretty consistent message that when you’re a kid, you have to really enjoy summer and make the most of every day which is very cute and fun, but then also the narrative foil/B plot implies that if you’re an adult you have no choice but to spend summer being cringe and evil

Every time I hear Up The Wolves by the Mountain Goats now I think of when I saw them live a few weeks ago and when they did this song John Darnielle forgot the start of the second verse (“there’s gonna come a day when you feel better”) and no hate to him obviously he’s got a huge catalog of songs it does not reflect on his overall immense talent that he forgot the words to one of them once but I did find it hilarious in the moment because like. Ok. I guess there is NOT gonna come a day when you feel better
