Finders Keepers
Summary: in which alien!reader crash lands right in front of Gojo and your story with him begins Word Count: 1k (just trialing a new concept so it's a quick opening) Warnings: a little cursing, allusions to experimentation and alien warfare, reader is naked but not in a sexual manner
“I can’t believe aliens actually exist,” Satoru mutters to himself.
This has been an incredibly wild evening.
When he stepped out of his apartment to throw the bins out, he hadn’t expected to see a blinding flash of light zoom past him and explode in the parking lot. Thank goodness for his infinity, otherwise he would not have fared as well as the minivan you landed on.
Yes.
You.
The woman who came straight from the sky and fell on top of a car, missing him by just two metres.
At first, he thought it was a curse; these things get pretty weird sometimes, after all. But using his Six Eyes, he could tell you were different. Sure, you looked like any other person, with arms and legs and a head. But you had a unique aura to you, positively otherworldly.
If he was any other kind of man, he would have just left you there and pretended nothing happened — ignorance is bliss and whatnot — but what kind of Honoured One would he be if he didn’t do his duty and helped you out?
So, he slides down the massive crater you made (boy is that going to be a pain for maintenance to clean up) and carefully cradles your naked body in his arms, carefully so as to not touch bits and pieces no gentleman has a business looking at. Why are you naked anyways?
Sensing people making their way down the stairs to inspect the commotion, he teleports back into his apartment quick as a flash before anyone could think to look through their windows.
He throws a blanket at you and leaves you on the sofa as he paces the length of his living room and ponders what to do. On one hand, he could call the police and leave it up to them to deal with you. The government would know best about how to deal about falling space women, right? But then, don’t all the sci-fi movies talk about inhumane experimentation, weaponizing alien technology, and Area 51?
That wouldn’t be a very nice thing to do, at all.
And on the other hand, he could just take care of you himself. He has the means to, that’s for sure. You really don’t look any different from everyone else — surely, you need the same things he does: food, water, shelter and warmth.
Right?
Just as he’s about to pick up the phone to call his doctor friend, you begin rousing from sleep. Your eyes flutter open and they’re a normal colour, which freaks him out more if he’s going to be perfectly honest.
“Uh,” Satoru scratches the back of his neck, shuffling on his feet a little, “hey? I’m Gojo Satoru. You can just call me Satoru, though. If you want, or can, I guess.”
You tilt your head, scanning his body, and you open your mouth. What comes out is definitely an alien language. Or maybe he needs to travel more. But he certainly does not comprehend a single thing that you say.
Clearing his throat, he tries to smile comfortingly. “Okay, so I didn’t understand what you said. Sorry. But uh, do you need anything? Like, do you know where you are? Yeah, you definitely don’t know what I’m saying either, do you?”
You tilt your head again.
“What is wrong with me? Seriously. What was I thinking bringing you home? You may have fallen from the sky but I’m the one that clearly hit my head. I really am an idiot.”
Glancing around the room, you don’t look any bit as frazzled and panicked as he is. Actually, you’re as cool as a cucumber, and there isn’t a hint of shame or embarrassment on your face when you push yourself off the sofa, blanket sliding down your body.
“Woah! Woah!”
Satoru presses his hands to his eyes and leaves them there for a second or two before realising that does absolutely nothing and when he pulls them down, he doesn’t flinch when you’re standing before him, inquisitive eyes meeting his.
His infinity is on and he’s ready to subdue you if you prove to be a threat, but so far, he’s simply letting you reorient yourself, getting used to your surroundings and giving you the opportunity to decide he’s not a bad guy.
That being said, however, he’s still deciding whether to keep you or not. He doesn’t want you to be poked and prodded — that wouldn’t be a very cool welcome to planet Earth and he doesn’t need you to go around telling your alien friends humans suck, though they do. But he also doesn’t know if that’s the best decision.
You could be a danger to jujitsu society, to his students, to the world. What if, right at this very moment, you’re leaking deadly radiation? And what if his infinity can’t keep it out? Can’t keep you out?
Gosh, there are so many things that could go wrong.
It’s entirely possible too that you’re a blood sucking monster intent on wringing him dry for all he’s worth. Maybe you’re not even an alien. Maybe you’re a special kind of curse, the kind that can bypass his Six Eyes, though he’s fairly confident that’s not the case (there’s no one stronger than him, after all).
What if this is Kenjaku all over again?
Yeah, on second thought, he should definitely call the police. Or Ijichi, or the Prime Minister of Japan, or whoever will believe him when he says there’s a naked, alien lady in his home, and no, he’s not a pervert playing out some sick fantasy.
But just as he’s lifting his phone, you lift your hand the same time he does and cover your eyes.
Then you say his name in perfect Japanese with a sweet, soft voice, not a hint of hesitation or unsteadiness. You smile, eyes still obscured, and he feels himself mirroring your gleeful expression.
“That’s right. I’m Satoru. It’s nice to meet you.”
He decides, there and then, to hell with radiation, alien armies, and the deadly risk you pose to everything he knows or cares about. The military, conspiracy theorists, and scientists be damned.
He’s going to keep you.

I really wanted Time to meet Fi. So here's Time and Fi :)
Most of this is typed up, but you can probably tell what the parts I wrote say. It's just tiny dhdbfhdbbdfhdbdhd
So the context here is like. Wild and Sky got determined to wake Fi up. She popped out of the sword and went straight to Time because she's offended he doesn't like the master sword, creating the weirdest dynamic ever
I honestly think Time would be somewhat scared of Fi. He doesn't like the master sword and views it as a curse because of what happened to him. And she IS the master sword, which he does. not. like. And then she calls them all master and spouts statistics. what.
Fi on the other hand is the literal embodiment of the master sword, and is not instantly likeable (Sky glaring at her when they first met kills me dhxbdhcbdf). But she learned some about emotions with Sky and I think she'd win Time over. Help him see the sword in a different light, overcome his trauma, etc. plus I think he'd like her practicality, and how she spoke to Zelda to help Wild in botw.
Also the whole idea of a 'curse reveal' story would be out the window if Fi is there, because Sky would be able to keep zero secrets with his goddess-made-designated-storytelling-blabbermouth there. anyways.
-><- yeah I uhh wanted Time to meet Fi. Their interactions and dynamic would be so cool. I think they'd get along well.. eventually.
:)

i'm having surgery tomorrow so i'm just ranting about jikook to distract myself😂
the thing about jimin is that fortunately he received loads of love growing up from his parents (particularly his dad) and i really think he radiated that love out on the members and especially jungkook. no wonder jungkook grew so attached to jimin as he left home at 13 so was undoubtedly missing out on parental love due to proximity (being away from his parents) but had jimin not to compensate for that but just give jungkook a lot of care and love. that must be why the rainy day fight was so massive to jungkook because he understood that he had a lot to lose. this is not me taking anything away from jungkook and saying he became himself because of the members but he himself said that the members had a big influence in who he grew up to be and while i'm sure in any normal circumstance, he would still have become the lovely kind person he is today, from how he admires jimin for his kindness and lovingness (and receiving that love), i'm sure that had a lot to do with how he is literally the kindest, nicest, most patient and positive person. it's also wild to have watched him from age 19 in real time become so considerate and mature over the years. growing up he watched jimin be loving, considerate and kind to others and really admired him for it, and that coupled with receiving loads of love from jimin must have had a massive impact on him.
looking at jimin in the earlier days (2016/17) i think he was very much needing to find his person within the group, like when you're in school and you want to have that one friend that you will always sit next to and pair up with for everything. receiving stable love from his family probably meant that he wanted that stable love in the group as well and i think his personality very much aligns with needing that one person being very loyal and stable and putting him first etc. i mean it was obvious when he was so keen on jungkook picking him for everything in run episodes and how he was pairing himself up with jungkook so they're seen as a duo (all the extra attention he gave jungkook which the members picked up on, the pictures he would post to twitter etc). an obvious member to be this person for jimin would have been tae but this is where personality differences come into it. tae is a social butterfly who loves to be around people, loves to be adored by a big group and loves to have a big friendship group. he doesn't necessarily need one bestie, he feels happy having a bigger group and while i'm sure he has one (or two or more) people he's more deeply involved with, day to day he prefers to be in a group rather than one on one. for this reason as much as vmin are soulmates, jimin wasn't gonna get what he needed from tae. funnily enough though jungkook turned out to be the perfect person to pair up with for jimin. i mean he really did become jimin's loyal pup and 'toy' because of the reasons above. jungkook the same as jimin loves that loyal ride or die one person through everything kinda relationship so they were perfectly matched that way. jungkook provided what jimin needed perfectly (even if he at times denied it lol) so jimin didn't even need to ask after jungkook completely gave in.
over the years i think jimin especially chilled out on this but this is why it is entirely believable that they would enlist together as companions (and why jungkook found it hard to be away from jimin - and i think he found it harder because he's been attached to jimin from a younger age) and why they'd do a travel show together. and tbh once you understand how and why jikook are so close is when you start to wonder because one possibility is that you'd expect them to act like brothers because that makes sense - they're both from busan and both have brothers the same age as each other. and bro jokes discounted (which doesn't mean they're literally calling each other brother lol) they don't act like brothers at all nor do the members (or anyone) treat them like siblings (or they wouldn't ask them if they're a couple when they wear matching outfits or joke about the rainy day fight being like a kdrama couple fight).
i'm happy for them whatever they are and i don't even like to focus on the nature of their relationship a lot (not that it's any of my business in the first place lol) because i feel like that can take away from appreciating their closeness however i think we're also in a situation where if people understand how close they are, they cannot not wonder about them and about what that means for their relationship (i also think this is why some people love to be dramatic and come up with all sorts of stuff). all this is to say i do wish people appreciated jikook's bond more but that would require them to understand and appreciate jimin and jungkook separately as well as together and idk how often that happens tbh.

I keep seeing what people are calling "black tabbies". Are these smokes or ghost markings? I know their not charcoal. Their certainly not black tabbies, which are the name for "wild type".
I keep thinking black smoke. But the first one, I couldn't see the white undercoat. I am leaning that all are black smoke. But I'm not sure about the first at all.
These photos are not mine, but from reddit discussing "black tabbies". The last is from a YouTube shorts where no sources are given.
How do I tell the difference between ghost markings and smoke?
Also why do some smokes show markings and others don't?
Yeah, unfortunately these terms (black/brown/gray or even smoky tabby) are used all around for all kind of things. Doesn't help when you look for pictures.
I can't offer you a great trick for differentiating between simple black cats and black smokes based on a picture. Best to actually brush into their fur. But if it counts, these are my guesses: i'd expect smoke for the first cat, an adult with that much ghost marking; second and fourth are definitely smoke with the white undercoat showing up on the chest and the legs, and over the eyebrows; the third can be just young... hard to say based on just one picture, especially with the face being turned aside.
And why do some smokes show stronger ghost marks? I'm guessing it depends on the depth of the undercoat. With more white underneat the tabby pattern starts to become clearer (until the the white eats up everything and cat becomes patternless again).

✧ SHIFTING AND ANCIENT BELIEFS: EXPLORING THE INTERSECTION OF PHILOSOPHY AND PARALLEL WORLDS
✵ SETTING THE STAGE. When you think about shifting, it’s like exploring a new world. But what if I told you that ancient philosophies have been talking about parallel worlds, realities, and alternate dimensions for centuries? Let’s dive into how some of the oldest schools of thought have laid the groundwork for what we now know as shifting.
✵ PLATO AND THE THEORY OF FORMS.
— Plato’s Theory of Forms might sound like deep philosophy, but it’s actually pretty close to the concept of parallel worlds. Plato believed that everything in our world is just a shadow or reflection of a perfect, ideal form that exists in another realm. These perfect forms are timeless, unchanging, and exist in a world that’s not bound by the physical limitations we experience. In the context of shifting, you could think of this as the “ideal version” of yourself or your desired reality, one that exists outside of time and space, just waiting for you to align with it, to become aware of it.
✵ THE EASTERN CONCEPTS OF MULTIVERSES.
— Eastern philosophies (like Hinduism and Buddhism) have long accepted the idea of multiple planes of existence. In Hinduism, the universe is constantly shifting between creation and destruction, with countless worlds or “lokas” existing in parallel. This idea of multiple realities fits perfectly with shifting. In Buddhism, the concept of samsara (the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth) can also be interpreted as the movement between different planes or versions of existence. These ideas line up with the concept of shifting in a way. There are endless possibilities, different realities you can shift to, and it’s all about becoming aware of a new version of yourself.
✵ QUANTUM PHYSICS AND THE TAO.
— While not exactly ancient, quantum physics has been deeply influenced by Eastern philosophy (especially Taoism). Taoism is all about the flow of energy and balance in the universe, and quantum physics talks about particles being in multiple places at once. They both suggest that the universe is much more fluid and interconnected than we realize. The crossover between quantum physics and Taoism suggests that, just like energy can be in multiple places at once, we can shift between different realities by aligning ourselves with that flow of energy or becoming aware of whatever reality we intend to shift to.
✵ HERMETICISM AND THE PRINCIPLE OF MENTALISM.
— Hermetic philosophy (which dates back to ancient Egypt and Greece) highlights the idea that “the All is mind,” which teaches us that the universe is mental, meaning that reality itself is shaped by our consciousness. It’s all in the mind. The idea that our mind and thoughts can shape the world around us is pretty wild, but it’s also exactly how shifting works. If reality is mental, then shifting is just a matter of changing your mental state to align (or become aware) with a new reality. So, shifting into your desired reality is really just a mental adjustment, which is exactly what Hermeticism has been saying for ages.
✵ THE HOLOGRAPHIC UNIVERSE.
— This might sound a bit out there, but some theories in science (like the holographic universe theory) say that the universe is like a giant hologram, where each part contains a reflection of the whole. This idea pops up in mystical teachings too, like in Kabbalah. It’s kind of like saying that all the parallel realities exist at the same time and are part of one big, interconnected whole. If you apply this to shifting, it means that all the versions of you and all the versions of reality are already out there. You just need to become aware of them to experience them.
✵ HOW THIS ALL TIES BACK TO SHIFTING.
— So, when you think about shifting, you’re not really doing something totally new. You’re tapping into ideas that have been around for centuries. These ancient philosophies show us that reality isn’t fixed. It’s fluid, interconnected, and full of possibilities. Whether it’s Plato’s ideal forms, Eastern ideas of parallel worlds, or quantum physics, they all point to the same thing: there are infinite versions of reality, and we can access them by shifting our consciousness/awareness. It’s like these old schools of thought were kind of hinting at shifting long before we even had the term for it.
✵ FINAL THOUGHTS. So, when you’re thinking about shifting, remember that these ancient philosophies are not so far off. They’ve been talking about parallel worlds and the fluid nature of reality for centuries. Shifting might feel like something new and modern but in a way, you’re just rediscovering what the ancients already knew.

I was reading through someone else’s post who makes a great point about how both ‘Ginger Cow’ and ‘Humancentipad’ are both just…. painful episodes of Kyle suffering to watch, but how ‘Ginger Cow’ expands more on Kyle’s dynamics with the others so is an important one to not skip over. I already had an analysis of this episode queued up, but decided to share now lol.
What sets the two episodes apart is that ‘Humancentipad’ doesn’t really add much to any of the canon for the show, so you honestly don’t miss much if you skip that episode. It doesn’t really demonstrate any new dynamics or canon for any of them. We already know Cartman manipulates his mom and enjoys Kyle's suffering. And we already know Stan and others will try to help Kyle when he's in trouble. It's South Park business as usual.
But "Ginger Cow"? Even though this episode is similarly painful to watch, it’s very important in how it develops the relationships between ALL of the main four boys in relation to Kyle, especially the Kyle-Stan-Cartman triangle.
There's something very telling and interesting about how Cartman torments Kyle in this episode. It's not just his usual "ha ha Kyle suffers" routine - it's way more psychological and to an extent, more sophisticated than his usual tactics (funny to call breathing in farts sophisticated, but… eh, in the way he uses it as torture, it is). Cartman basically creates this whole elaborate scenario where Kyle has to CHOOSE to subject himself to humiliation, which is so much more twisted than just directly trying to cause him pain through the same remarks he usually does. He weaponizes Kyle’s own martyr complex against him, which is kind of genius in a fucked up way.
In the B plot, you have Kenny and Stan who just do not understand why Kyle is going along with Cartman’s whims. Stan has many scenes in which he confronts Kyle. He is genuinely trying to understand why Kyle is going along with this and not giving up - and Kenny to a lesser extent is in the background backing Stan up.
Stan tries many different tactics to get Kyle to stop succumbing to Cartman’s farting, and when he sees that Kyle is too stubborn to stop, he then tries to see where Kyle is coming from. He really respects Kyle, and in his mind, if Kyle won’t stop, there must be a reason for it, right? But Kyle won’t open up to the ‘why’ of it all. At one point, Stan starts his line of questioning again. “... Dude, we’ve been friends for a long time. Can you just at least tell me why you like Cartman’s farts so much?.... You like… how they smell? How they taste?.... Should I try them?”
He offers to try them himself to understand, which is WILD lmfao. But he just genuinely is so confused as to why Kyle is letting himself be tortured to the point that he offers to go try it as well, and if that isn’t a bro being a bro, then I don’t know what tf is. Of course, Kyle exclaims, “NO”, wanting to save him from the same fate as what he has to go through. Kyle is justifying it in his mind as he really does think he is being the chosen one to save humanity here.
While this episode is hard to watch, I do genuinely find the Stan and Kenny dynamics hilarious and underrated. The repeated scenes where Stan goes to recap his conversation with Kyle are so funny. At one point, Stan says, “I don’t get it, Kenny,” to a Kenny that’s been waiting patiently outside. Kenny just shrugs and says, “Dude, maybe he’s, like, mentally ill or something”, lmaoooo.
And then the moment where Stan goes on the big screen as he calls Kyle is genuinely funny to me as well. He tries to tell Kyle he found out Cartman’s been lying, and Kyle is like, “Duh, dude. Why the fuck do you think I’ve been going along with it 😭” And that’s when Stan finally understands why Kyle’s doing it. But he still tells Kyle he thinks he’s being a dick about it all, but ultimately decides to help Kyle out. I think the part where Stan tells Kyle sternly that he needs to apologize to Kenny as well is so fucking funny (and then Kenny’s cheery ‘It’s okay, Kyle!’) is everything lmfao.
Stan and Kyle’s dynamic here particularly is interesting to me because it is SO similar to their dynamic in the ‘Butterballs’ episode, just in reverse where Stan is the one lecturing Kyle for getting up his ass for trying to be a ‘savior’.
Stan mentions something like this many times, but when Kyle compares himself to Gandhi, Stan replies, “You know, I don’t think when Ghandi starved himself he was all ‘Dude look how fuckin’ awesome I am for starving. Check me out!””. This is pretty much the same parallel as Kyle telling Stan he was gonna end up naked and jacking it in San Diego in “Butterballs”. Both those episodes are painful for me to watch, but I do love how it shows how both Stan and Kyle care about each other enough to call each other out on their bullshit like real friends should.
I think that both Stan and Kyle both have moments where they get so caught up in trying to be the ‘hero’ that they don’t realize they’re being more performative and making justifications rather than actually helping. (other examples include ‘A Scause for Applause’ for Stan, and ‘Crack Baby Athletic Association’ for Kyle.) Note that I think these episodes are more the exception rather than the rule for both characters as I really do think both try their hardest in their own ways to be good, but those episodes are examples of what I mentioned above and add interesting depth to both their characters.
p.s. there’s a deleted scene where Stan and Kenny actually go to the doctor to try to find out what’s wrong with Kyle and it’s so cute lmfao. It’s giving the time stan went to the doctor to try to give up his kidney for Kyle. It’s short, but also shows how much they truly work hard behind the scenes to help their friend out. One of the screenshots provided is from that scene.

hi bae,can you do 2008tom x reader where they’re madly in love but can’t be together bc of their families+a little bit of smut xx
Our special place
2008 Tom Kaulitz x Fem reader!
⟡ summary: Tom and you have been in love for a while, however, your parents don't accept your friendship with him, since your families were so different. He was raised in a free-spirited way. While you were raised in a totally rough environment with strict parents.
⟡ indludes: family issues, smut 18+.
a/n: hello doll, hope you like it. Sorry if this is too short, this got posted by accident and i cant put it on drafts now, i promise part 2 will be better (if u want part 2) ^^ -> here's part 2 ☁️
You want to be with Tom since you are so in love with him. You love how careless of the world he is. But your parents think you should be with someone who is more serious and will be able to provide for your family.
He loves you as well. He always tries to sneak into your room, and he always give you something, but it wasn't anything fancy or expensive, but the things you like. The two of you always go out together to drink coffee in some small cafe not too far from your house.
You two always meet in a local playground, or sometimes you sneak to Tom's house without your parents knowing this. You enjoyed this a lot, but your parents weren't really happy by hearing the new gossip about their daughter being with a wild teenager.
This all began when they caught you and Tom kissing, and your father screamed: "He is too dangerous for you. This isn't allowed!" And that's why you two started dating in secret.
You would always fight with them, since you both knew that you loved each other. Your parents wanted the best for you, they were worried he might get you pregnant. They said to you that he is a bad guy. A good for nothing, that is what they called him, which you hated the most about what they told you.
Today, you went to do homework to a friend's house. Which was a lie, you went to Tom's house.
You just arrived at Tom's when he kissed you and whispered. "I missed you so much, baby." Which made you happy. You never have the real love from your parents, and here was Tom, fixing all your problems. Being with him felt like a band-aid to your heart.
Tom took his shirt off and you started to give him some kisses on the neck and chest. He was playing with your hair and he said how much he loves you.
You smiled and took off your shirt as well. You felt really comfortable with him, and you never been so comfortable with someone.
Your heart was beating fast and Tom could tell you were excited. He pushed you on the bed and started to give you a lot of kisses again.
"I love you so much" you said to Tom.
"I love you more" Tom whispered and gave you a lot of kisses. Suddenly your phone started to ring. Your mother was wondering why the hell aren't you home. You knew it's late and you should probably go home.

Batfam meets Carrie Kelley
Ok, I need the main timeline Batfam to meet Carrie Kelley.
And not in a writers just throw all the different timeline robins into one family, or a crack social media fic. I need proper post-Dark Knight Returns Carrie to universe travel or something and meet this Bruce Wayne and his family. Like, her life is wild. She is a pre-Tim Robin. She got introduced before Jason died?! Her characterisation is built up off Dick, off the original concept of Robin, as a symbol and nothing more, not really a mantle, but an idea. She is a whole different kettle of fish from the modern Batfam and modern interpretation and retconning and rewriting of the Robins, the Robin mantle and the Batfam, not even getting into the fact she's from the 80s. She actively lives in the 80s, like Reagan is president, modern technology is non existent and all that.
Like, from an outside perspective, Carrie's Robin is the leader of a guerrilla paramilitary Batman cult and vigilante organisation, with hundreds of "Sons of Batman". And sure, Bruce is behind the scenes, teaching and truly organising, being supported by pirate-coded, one-armed Oliver, but no one else knows that. To the outside world? Carrie's the big boss. And she's this tiny little pipsqueak in scaly shorts who just so happens to swear like a sailor or a goon on Gotham Docks. It's hilarious. The Batfam would be so confused and concerned about this girl. She has almost no training before going out, she literally got boot-camped in the like 2 weeks Bruce had between meeting her for the first time, where she proceeded to jump in the batmobile, set his arm and sass him, and him then having to go fight Superman and have a heart attack and fake his death.
And that's the other part! They would lose their mind about what the hell is going on in her world?? Vigilantism got outlawed?! People got forced to retire, leave the planet/country or face consequences. Oliver lost an arm?? Clark is an arm of the United States forces, acting as an attack dog pointed wherever Reagan wants?? They fought and Bruce had a heart attack and died?! Well he didn't stay dead, which is actually in character, but what the fuck Carrie?? And I just need her to be so nonchalant about everything that happened to her but also absolutely amazed by the technology and how many family members Bruce has. Also, seeing Bruce young is wild. She only knows old man grump Bruce, the true I work alone Batman. Seeing this Bruce and his family would be wild to her.
Also, the way that she would react to Bruce would be so interesting. Cause all of his kids are in fact his kids, yeah, even Steph to some extent, but Carrie? She's his Robin first, his student second. And his child never. Can you imagine the "good soldier" conversation? Whether that be her mentioning him saying it to her or her finding Jason's plaque (which by the way was Alfred's doing, which adds so many more layers to it) and being all like, awww it's lovely. And everyone else is horrified, including Bruce, cause he's realised that that is not how he should compliment his children and that is not a healthy means of declaration of care. But for Carrie that is true and it is what she is and she appreciates it. Because she is not his kid, and I don't think she really wants to be, she has parents, though they clearly don't pay too close attention to her if she's able to jump out windows and fight crime regularly, but she still has existing parents that fill that position in her life and Bruce is much more a martial arts sensei or a favourite strict teacher to her.
Like, she cares about the dude and all, but when they're sat around and Dick or one of the family members starts prodding Bruce about feelings and his personal life or whatever, she gets awkward, cause that's not her business. That's like seeing your teacher at the supermarket. She sees Bruce in the cave, during training and when he's giving advice, he's not a real person with a life, he's an NPC in her life, she jokes that he already fulfilled his dead sensei anime plot device when he faked his death for Superman, so now she sometimes ignores him when he's being pigheaded and pretends he's a ghost. BUT! That would be so confusing for the Batfam, cause yeah, he's their teacher too, their trainer and mentor, but he's also a parental figure in their lives, there's more to him and how they perceive him and having one without the other would confuse them so much. So when they see she's awkward about him being emotionally open they take it as a sign that they need to try hard and bring her into the fold, teach her how to get her Bruce to open up and she's just fully like, nuh huh, absolutely not, I don't wanna know any of that.
I just really want Carrie to be explored more in canon and in the fandom, beyond just an easter egg appearance, she's so interesting and so underexplored.

Reading TGCF: Chapter Ten
For those who don't know, I am reading TGCF for the first time and sharing my thoughts!
If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.
Also- if you want to follow along, I am aiming to post updates daily. You can find all the posts in the tag Bloopitynoot reads TGCF. You can also check out the intro post for context on my read BUT if you followed along with my SVSSS read, the rules and vibe are the same.
I truly wish I could say this was a different tea, but from now on unless I state otherwise it's probably masala chai.
Body update: I feel less like trash than yesterday, but my right arm did take a hit LOL. Thankfully my hip is doing a lot better too so sitting is much better. (I'm not even a writer or specifically a writer on ao3, yet, it feels like I have the ao3 curse).
Nevertheless- onwards to chapter ten!
Immediately Xie Lian is here using his body to protect San Lang! You tell Fu Yao! p329
I should have waited one more sentence LOL. "Because...if I stand next to him, the snakes wont come". p329
omg. There is a 6th person in the pit and I am still not sold that that kid (a-zhao) is actually dead. I'm still thinking about the garden face man and what he was saying. p331
WTF- General Pei jr?? p333
okay! But now I need to know General Pei jr.'s motivation for destroying a whole city! p335
ofc Xie Lian knew General Pei jr from when he was General Hua. Who does this man not accidentally know? p336
Jeeze. Banyue's people were going to strap bombs to themselves if they lost. This is wild. Based on the history between the two warring countries I really don't think there was hope for a peaceful end. pp337-338
Oh yay! we finally get to meet the two cultivators from the street! Also that art is absolutely stunning, I love them both so much. I do hope we meet them again. pp341-343
Oh no! The entire time they have been running from her (The Wind Master) thinking she was evil as shit but she was actually trying to help them. p343
Dang this makes sense. General Pei jr couldn't just murder people directly because of his position. So, instead he lured them to their deaths (snake deaths, pit deaths, but definitely not him killing them technically!). This is some dictatorship misuse of power shit with full technical deniability for this guy. Gross. p345
Xie Lian had me suspicious about the wind master too, but thank fuck Banyue was let go for her good deeds. p347
Bro just wants to do the right and good things but heavenly politics are too much. He is definitely going to offend everyone at some point. p350
Whos cutting onions?? My heart at this small child who decided they would be building Xie Lian a large temple when they got home :'3 I'm totally normal about this. p352
The speed in which Nan Feng fled when Xie Lian offered to make food LOOOL Nan Feng: oh no, so sorry, my basement is on fire, and flooded, definitely need to leave right at this moment. Terribly tragic. p353
eeeeeeeeeeeeeep! "I still prefer the name 'San Lang'" p354
ONE CHAPTER LEFT!
Now the question is, how will mxtx ruin my life in the last chapter of this book?
I do own book 2, BUT I think tomorrow I will order the third in celebration of finishing book 1. I might do this the last chapter of each book to prep for more reads.
#bloopitynoot reads tgcf#mxtx tgcf#tgcf#mxtx#heaven official's blessing#xie lian#hua cheng#san lang#the wind master is kind of cute tho ngl#she feels very good vibes only#i'm not even mad about it though

It's Blorbo Blursday! And I arrive with questions! Your blorbos go to the movies, who:
Forgets to turn off their phone?
Has to take out a second mortgage to buy snacks?
Finishes all the snacks during the previews?
Is the Talker (tm)?
Is the one that polishes off two sodas without realizing they're probably going to have to go to the bathroom at some point during the film?
Is the one to sneak into other theaters after their movie ends to catch a free one but shhh don't tell anybody!
Thanks for the ask :)
Dahsira doesn't forget to turn off her phone, she's talking to someone loudly on it about how terrible the movie is lol
The gang from Neon Graves are pooling together their change to see what snacks they can get to share. Except Zap who is chatting up the people behind the counter as a distraction, while Bandit and Tank steal as much as they can.
Viter and Mahrias go through most of the snacks during the previews. Mainly because they keep throwing popcorn at each other. Viter is also the one who ends up drinking far too much soda lol
Kaspian is the one shouting stuff at the screen but is amusing most people, rather than annoying them. Except Eli who wants to disappear from embarrassment.
All of the ghosts from Dead Serious easily get in for free lol. They could sit in the back and nobody would even notice them if they stayed there all day. Which if Sidney had anything to say about it, they definitely would lol
#thanks for the ask!#everyone except the blue blood ones are from the same universe#which is wild when i think about how different they all are#a sparkly demon a cyborg and a dead gangster walk into the movies... lol

Kingdom Hearts 3 - Rage Form
#kingdom hearts 3#kh3#sora#rage form#arendelle#formchange#my gif#rage form is so intriguing#sora still behaves in a wild animalistic fashion similar to his anti form but it's different#anti form felt as if he relinquished all self control and acted strictly on instinct just like a heartless#he used to run around hunched over on all fours and fight tooth and claw with reckless abandon#but here you can at least see SOME semblance of who he is. he's able to wield his keyblade while in this form which is pretty major#he still fights in an absolutely chaotic and primal manner but it feels evolved#the big difference is you call upon rage form at will. he channels his rage and darkness in a desperate last resort to stay alive#which is very significant but he still loses some control like the ability to use of magic; items; shotlocks; etc#it's cool to see darkness used in this way but i really want sora to able to explore themes of darkness within himself in future games#i want these to be more than cool forms with fun gameplay. i want them to have implications that something dark is brewing and needs to be-#brought to the surface and tackled head on because we've never seen anyone capable of cloaking themselves in darkness in such a way#take riku's dark form for example. he's in control and he's very much still himself. it's entirely different#on another note i'm now thinking about how hp is fully restored when activating rage form but you have the choice to give it up again-#when using risk charge. it'll increase attack damage but you're still walking a dangerous line in the pursuit of power

Why is Hera so hostile to Leto in a manner that she isn't with the other lovers of Zeus? I can't think of any other woman who was targeted so much by Hera. One could say she didn't want Leto to give birth because her children would be a competition to Hera's children, but why bother her even after she had already given birth? Is it because Leto herself is also a threat to Hera?
Sort of I guess?
I don't think Leto would ever be a threat to Hera's role as the queen of the gods but Hera might see her as a competitor for Zeus' affection, even though I think Zeus would not marry someone else and replace Hera.
The twins are definitely a big reason why Hera begrudged Leto - it is outright stated in the Callimachus Hymn to Delos that the reason Hera especially targeted Leto was because she was told that Apollo would be dearer to Zeus than Ares is. Zeus is very proud of Artemis as well. As he himself puts it, he doesn't mind facing Hera's wrath for children like her.
But the continued hatred even after the birth of the twins (like sending Tityus to rape Leto) could have been for different reasons. This wasn't like one of those affairs Zeus would have with mortal women where he'd leave them behind once the child is conceived. Neither could Hera, despite her many attempts, get rid of Leto like she did with the other lovers. Not only did Leto give Zeus children that he loves dearly, she also stayed on Olympus despite Hera's hatred towards her (which isn't directed to any of Zeus' other divine mistresses, btw). It might have also been because Leto herself is dear to Zeus, if the way she's treated on Olympus is any proof. In the Homeric hymn to Apollo, Leto stands next to Zeus - in the Olympian assembly - to welcome their son. Hera is completely absent from the scene, as if Leto had taken her place even if temporarily. Now you could say this is because Apollo himself is such a powerful and glorious son in a way that no other son of Zeus is, so of course Leto would get such an honor (the hymn itself presents it this way).
But here's another instance - in the Iliad, when Hera goes to seduce Zeus, he is obviously very smitten but before getting into the action, he lists some of his lovers (I believe these were his favorite lovers, as a lot of others are not mentioned):
"for never has such desire for goddess or mortal woman so gripped and overwhelmed my heart, not even when I was seized by love for Ixion’s wife, who gave birth to Peirithous the gods’ rival in wisdom; or for Acrisius’ daughter, slim-ankled Danaë, who bore Perseus, greatest of warriors; or for the far-famed daughter of Phoenix, who gave me Minos and godlike Rhadamanthus; or for Semele mother of Dionysus, who brings men joy; or for Alcmene at Thebes, whose son was lion-hearted Heracles; or for Demeter of the lovely tresses; or for glorious Leto; or even for you yourself, as this love and sweet desire for you grips me now.’ (Book 14, trans. A. T. Murray)
Notice how when talking about most of them, he also mentions the children they bore to him but when Demeter and Leto are mentioned, he doesn't bring up their children at all despite them being some of the most accomplished kids of his. What's more, he takes Leto's name just before Hera's. I mean, this is an interpretation but it looks like not only did Zeus love Leto the most out of all his mistresses - giving her a place second to that of his wife, but also his love for her wasn't necessarily only because she gave him two amazing children.
Nonnus does something similar in the Dionysiaca (but this time Zeus is enamored with Persephone instead of Hera) but more notably, when Typhoeus attacks Olympus and Zeus is discouraged, Nike takes the form of Leto to encourage him and it's pretty telling of what Leto meant to Zeus.
One interesting similarity between Hera and Leto is that they both had a giant try to rape them. Porphyrion tried to violate Hera (Zeus inspired him to do this) and Tityus tried to violate Leto (upon Hera's order). Though both of them were killed, only Tityus got an eternal punishment in Tartarus of having his liver/heart eaten out by vultures so Zeus seems to have taken a greater offense at Tityus trying to assault Leto.
Again, I don't think Zeus would ever take anyone other than Hera as his permanent wife - she is irreplaceable to him. There's an entire myth about Hera leaving him and Zeus winning her back. Their relationship is obviously complex and involves all kinds of emotions including love and hate. But Leto is continually dear to him as well and that's something Hera can't do much about.
#Zeus#Hera#Leto#if you think about it Leto is like the opposite of Hera#she is a great mother#she bore children that Zeus is actually proud of#she never rebels and even begs for forgiveness when her son rebels against Zeus#she's generally mild natured and never lashes out#also if you look into this obscure myth of how Hera established an altar in the name of Leto#because Leto's name was used to cover up the secret relationship between Zeus and Hera#(which kinda sorta implies that Zeus was *maybe* courting or even married to Leto at that time)#it all gets even more complicated for both Hera and Leto#ALSO in the texts that record the syncretism bw Greek and Egyptian gods#Some authors make Hera the mother of Apollo#and Leto was Apollo's nurse#Those texts also mention that this Apollo defeated Typhoeus and became the king of Egypt#So he was like the ideal son of Zeus and Hera#And it's so interesting to me#how this Apollo - the perfect son of Hera - transitioned into a sort of rival figure to Hera in the greek myths#and Typhoeus who was defeated by Hera's son became the son of Hera in the Greek myths#on a different note#to this day I can't understand why Zeus would inspire Porphyrion to do such a thing#was it to get back at Hera for the Tityus incindent?#I shall headcanon it that way (even though I prefer to ignore this version)#well of course not that Zeus would have ever let Porphyrion actually have his way with Hera regardless of the reason#but yeah that was such move and it's wild that the mythographer didn't tell us that reason behind Zeus' action#I've also seen people hc that it was because Zeus wanted Heracles to save Hera so that she's accept him finally#which is also an interesting explanation#especially if you consider that Heracles was also given Hera's breast milk (without her consent)#anyway that's enough rambling ig

Thanks for your insight! I had come to the same conclusion on a lot of these points.
I agree that if Jayce didn't blast him, he wasn't weakened, wouldn't have become the Herald, and was using the hexite cores to power up. However, I didn't think that Vander overloaded because Singed injected him - we see Singed use the serum (do we even know what that mysterious serum was?) on Warwick's corpse during the Evolution scene - this actually appears to be the thing that transforms Viktor, not just the apex shimmer. The apex shimmer was maybe sustaining Viktor in his cocoon but it didn't appear to be enough to heal him ("I sense my twilight approaching"). It's only when Singed injects the orange serum into Warwick, mixing with the shimmer, that we see Warwick's memories disintegrate and that serum passes into the cocoon, triggering Viktor's evolution. Now, Richter (spelling??) puts his axe through the steam-powered thingie on Warwick's back, and I thought that would have perhaps caused the overload - but he appeared alright after that. I really do think that Viktor's connection was what was stabilizing him and when it was shattered Warwick couldn't hold back that flood. If that hadn't happened, Jinx, Vi, and Cait could have gotten him out of there, changing everything, and I think Viktor would have likely refused Ambessa's pitch as he wouldn't need an army to get him to the hexgates if he believed he had Jayce on his side.
I'm still in the process of working out my thoughts on the ruined timeline, because Ambessa's a bit of a wild card as to what she'd do if the circumstances are even a bit different. She went down there with the intent of capturing Warwick, only turning her attention to Viktor once he's already in the cocoon and she learns he can create these immortal soldiers. Otherwise, she fears and resents mages. I think her intent was, in our timeline, ultimately to try and (foolishly!) harness Viktor's power for herself to fight the Black Rose, which wouldn't have worked, but regardless. I won't get off on an Ambessa tangent, tho I think her actions in the crucial few hours after Warwick decide the timeline tbh, but working it all out made me realize how quickly things in the commune happen. If Jayce had willingly joined Viktor, he would have had almost no time (like...minutes) before the rest of the events unfolded (sorry fic writers who want him chilling in the commune for weeks). I still think Jayce would have to turn against Viktor once he sees the Evolved - but he couldn't bring himself to hurt Viktor. I would guess he scrambles off to Piltover to warn the council. Things would have to play out similarly if Ambessa continues with her attack on Piltover, with Jayce knowing that Viktor was going to be in the hexheart and going down there to confront him instead - but maybe giving his best emotional 'you're still in there!' pitch. I'm still inclined to think when he kneeled atop the tower it was out of defeat, but I'm open on it.
(This brings me to another tangent, being that this surely has to be the first Jayce brought to this timeline - because husk Jayce gives over his hammer, and he can only do that once. There's, to me, something uniquely special about that hexcorized hammer that is able to really hurt Viktor/the hexcore vs just a blast from his regular hammer? Seeing as the hexite cores don't hurt Viktor, and the power of the hex crystals are one with those of the hexcore, just powering him up. But even so, if any other Jayce came and fell down that cave etc, they'd be left with no weapon after. I can't stop thinking about the rune embedded in Jayce's arm with hexcorized damage, and how it seems to be the thing that activates the hexcorized hammer, as it glows on his arm whenever he uses the hammer. I could get off into another huge thing about how I've been struggling to figure out what mage Viktor's actual plan was for our Jayce to do, and how that rune fits into it, but I digress)
I think Viktor's plan would have been, as we saw in the prime timeline, to activate the hexgate, concentrating its full power into a vertical beam which would shoot upwards through the hole in the roof, through him/through the hexcore, channeling that power into the Anomaly to enact the Glorious Evolution (thus producing the mage visual we see in the tome/Black Rose illusion). Our Viktor didn't get there, but Mage Viktor did. I also noticed like you said that there were no drones on top of the tower, but they were scattered around the city, on the bridge, in the undercity. I don't truly know if that is significant or if they just, dispersed after a while. To me they're discolored from decades of corrosion and exposure, not because they're any different from our version of the Evolved, showing how once the Evolution took place, there was nothing to do after. Everything just went silent, stood still. Viktor had no orders for them, so they just wandered off without purpose and sat to rust. Or maybe once Viktor realized what he'd done, he didn't want to even look at them so he sent them away from his eye of the storm area.
Sorry for the ramble - I wrote this out of order lmao. I have been thinking a LOT about the ruined timeline, trying to piece it together, and there's an incredible amount going on that's subtle and easy to overlook in lieu of the big stuff.
Hi! I wanted to hear your thoughts about something that keeps on nagging me about the Glorious Evolution... what's the difference between the Evolved and the Pompeii-esque husks we see in the ruined timeline? Viktor states his intent is to Evolve everyone willing and connect them into one mind but we only ever actually see him evolve his commune followers. Towards the end we see that either Viktor himself, the drone bots, or the anomaly via the mind-strings, can begin to 'assimilate' people, but that never progresses to getting Evolved. Jayce almost losing himself in golden light seems to be what happens if it's allowed to finish. So does everyone else who isn't 'touched' just get decimated by the anomaly blast? What was Viktor's intent for Jayce ultimately - I feel like he wasn't going to Evolve him, he wanted him by his side and we see in the ruined timeline that he's a husk, not a drone. I'm still struggling to make sense of these different end-states for those who get plugged into the hivemind, and how it's decided who ends up getting connected or just destroyed.
Sorry it took me a while to get to this one, it was a combination of real life and not really having an answer ready because I agree, it is vexing.
I don't quite know how to break down what happened and who is what, but I can try to make sense of it with the things we know:
In this reality, Jayce never shot Viktor through the chest. Presumably, this means Viktor continued with his plans without interruption.
Ambessa arrived at the commune before Jayce did, so his going back did not alter that event. So that would be the same in both universes. To me, this means that Viktor was heading towards his moment of disillusionment either way, either by Jayce's hands or by Ambessa.
Keep in mind, Jayce shooting Viktor is NOT why Vander went crazy. So many people miss this, but it's actually because of Singed injecting him. Admittedly, he did so while everyone's backs were turned because of the interruption of Jayce's attack but I think the full-scale conflict that broke out was quite likely in either universe, with or without Jayce.
I think what also gets lost in this discussion is what Salo was doing at the base of the Hexgates: retrieving Hex crystal cores.
So, while Viktor was running low on energy, he may have found an alternative by using Hex crystals which Jayce scuttled by killing Salo. No one else from the commune (except arguably Viktor himself) would have the authority to get into the Hexgate base without getting stopped.
As far as we know, without getting shot, Viktor never turned to Singed for Apex Shimmer via Vander/Warwick. I believe this because Wizard Viktor doesn't have the Machine Herald appearance. Arguably he's able to shed it or it's an illusion, etc etc, but truly I believe the Machine Herald appearance is a direct result of Jayce shooting Viktor and him being forced to turn to Apex Shimmer to heal.
We also know in Wizard Viktor's original timeline, Jayce probably joined him instead of shooting him. I've argued before in another meta that Jayce in Wizard Viktor's timeline likely gave into Viktor willingly at the top of the tower.
So, where does that leave us? I'm going to propose this alternate timeline:
Viktor is disillusioned by Ambessa's attack but he's not weakened because Jayce never shot him.
Using the Hex crystals Salo stole from the Hexgates, Viktor has enough power to continue assimilating people.
I'd argue: Viktor forcibly assimilates Ambessa's forces or he otherwise begins an assault on the city, perhaps with her as an ally. I only note this because it does look like there are more converted/ascended people in the Anomaly Future that there were cultists and him assimilating Ambessa's forces (including Cait, for example, but not including Jinx because her balloon is visible crashed into the Hexgate tower in the Anomaly future) is one possible explanation.
Viktor achieved this using Hex crystals, not Apex Shimmer. He was also able to do a version of the robot/ascended cultists because of the Hex crystal powers but not enough to give them that porcelain and gold "sheathe". Perhaps he didn't even feel the need to design his ascended cultists that way in this world, because he wasn't competing with Mel, because Jayce had already joined him.
Viktor then goes to the Anomaly at the base of the Hex tower. He believes that this will give him the power to convert the rest of the world and end all conflict.
And this is where things get really damn speculative but I'll try my best:
Viktor claims the Anomaly. He and Jayce go together willingly to the top of the Hexgate tower to make this vision of peace a reality using its power.
In celebration of their plan finally reaching its successful conclusion, Viktor brings Jayce into the hivemind. Jayce is kneeling in front of Viktor willingly, with his hammer held before him in fealty.
Unlike in the canon timeline, we also know Viktor didn't bring any other robots up there with him, possibly because he didn't need the show of force or to restrain a willing Jayce. (or they could have descended later I guess but eh, I'm taking my visual difference as clues where I can)
Viktor converts Jayce to be his equal, somehow, in that he's different from both the cultists and the corpses.
However, this does not bring Jayce to his level, it just adds Jayce's consciousness to the growing soup of consciousness inside Viktor's head/the Hexcore, whatever it is. Jayce is effectively dead.
Then, this moment happens, which was the goal of the Hexcore the whole time: to lay waste to civilizations who overuse magic:
The mage rising over the city.
Wizard Viktor does this either out of grief at having lost Jayce or he does so before he loses Jayce (the order isn't super important, he loses him either way) and the Hexcore takes over to finish its own goals.
Everyone who isn't already assimilated gets taken out by the subsequent violent shockwave.
I might be missing some things. Honestly, we know some things went different because Viktor was never shot, because he got Hex crystals, because Jayce might have joined him at the commune, but how the battle broke down after that is very unclear. We do know that Jinx took part in the battle because she also flew her balloon into the Hexgate tower. How exactly that battle kicked off and who the combatants were is much less clear. We do know that Viktor didn't convert all of the city before those remaining got annihilated, so something must have gone wrong with his attempt to hive mind everyone that they all died instead.
The only curious note I can't quite reconcile is Wizard Viktor's speech about, "Once every equation is solved." Because it sounds like the Hexcore, or Viktor, determined that the only way to actually stop all conflict, the way to solve the equation, is to just murder everyone.
Which... um, yeah. I guess that works! But it definitely casts Wizard Viktor as either a pawn of the Hexcore or as an absolutely terrifying psychopath if that's his definition, which by the way I'm totally cool with because I love Wizard Viktor but I can easily see him being actually insane at this point and an only mildly remorseful supervillain who's really only sad Jayce died too so there was no one to save Viktor before he ended up in this dreamless solitude. Make of that what you will too.
I still don't feel like I have a clear answer for you, but hopefully this helps!
#i have. a 14 page word doc with my ideas. it keeps growing. nothing makes sense. make it make sense.#is this show utterly genius or is it riddled with plot holes. or both#sometimes i feel incredibly stupid for not being able to grasp what they're laying down yknow?#but you're the best person I could think to discuss it with! if anyone could figure it out it's you#arcane#meta

just wanted to let you know that your art changed something in my brain chemistry. i love how you design the bad kids, especially riz. it makes me love him even more 😭😭
thank u! fantasy high as a series banks a lot on heightening and exaggerations, and trying to work with that general sensibility while translating the designs into something I have fun drawing has been nice to do :]
#not art#its kinda funny to approach fh with like. a bg of shounen/gag manga? wild how much genres can differ when targeting the same demographic#tho I havent read shounen in a While lmao. the last series I picked up was uhhh tetsugaku letra#its very Gender even though I dont think it? aimed to be? it talks a Lot abt performance and failing social expectations#and I think if you wanna talk about stuff like that you kinda eventually stumble into Gender Stuff#well. to be fair the main character literally picks up and chooses to dance with a pair of women's flamenco shoes#so maybe I was just being pessimistic abt the series not aiming to talk abt transgenderism lmao#anyways I did also pick that up and then realized as I read it that wow. I have Fully outgrown this genre#which is fair bc I'm almost a decade out from being a teen. I have the privilege to grow up and get a bird eyes view of childhood#but yeah. its kinda fun to see how teen movie archetypes and shounen archetypes differ so much#and finding the thread of connection between all that#but very specifically abt riz. listen. listen I was a meitantei conan acolyte for Years (am now a hater lmao)#I have an unfortunate affinity for detectives. riz gukgak is a bullet with my name on it. laser targeted#and also this season he gets a pair of glasses which is one of the only objects I can fully draw from memory. u can probably notice#from how I draw them lmao#I think I have a sketch of his previous looks somewhere in here... I gotta look for that

Giving Lue art ideas is an honor and a privilege. Also I love munching on video games as literature bc their themes can be furthered in so many little aspects. That ludonarrative!!!!!
Damn Im probably gonna start playing p5r again tonight...
But with the foggy glasses! I love how Akira's glasses are used for humor (especially on that one Akechi date >.>) in scenes that can also be read as foreshadowing/thematic. Bc "glasses obscuring the face & intent of their wearer by being literally opaque" is such instinctual anime/cartoon shorthand that a character's glasses fogging up and making them appear sinister is a really common joke.
But we can compare the cute jokey fogged glasses with Akira's Persona Awakening scene (thanks yt compilation vids). In the cut-scene, his glasses go between amplifying and obscuring his eyes while his internal sense of justice wars with the restraints his experiences made him internalize.
When his glasses fall and he tears off his mask, his expression has never been clearer or more intensely determined. Even with all the blood running down his face.
One of the reasons I read Akira's dialogue options as multiplicity is bc of the moments the choices read better as one continuous thought than separate ideas. "That's enough!" and "I will stop you" are the same resolve in different keys.
And these moments of synergy clarify what being a "Wild Card" means for Akira. His senses of morality and personal responsibility are intrinsic, bedrock. They are so solid that the rest of him must be malleable in order to enact his justice, or even to survive under the thumb of people who'd see that rebellion crushed.
I fully believe that his glasses and general demeanor (that posture!!) are attempts to make himself invisible because he is so liable to pop-off in the face of injustice that someone responding to his judgmental expression with "what? you've got a problem?" is all it'd take for Akira to blow his own life up.
Akira's malleability and multiplicity are found in all the ways rebellion is possible. A person that is in all iterations himself.
MILD AKECHI SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HIS DEAL
Meanwhile, Akechi very obviously struggles with his sense of self. He has two masks and somehow fully immerses himself in both. 2 extreme survival mechanisms that only work if he can convince everyone, including himself, that this is all Akechi Goro is.
Akira wears a mask, performs as jack-of-all-trades, because his Self is so solid the problem comes from its reactivity with society at large. The conflict comes when others see it and try to make him bend, break, but he refuses. Meanwhile, Akechi has been in survival-mode so long his sense of identity outside his masks has nearly entirely atrophied.
Which is why he bites so hard when Akira's sharp eyes land on the beast and can't be redirected. Why his mask breaks when Akira pokes at his soft animal underbelly.
Akira wears glasses as a mask because his sharp gaze draws attention, I imagine his poker face is kinda shit. But Akechi has long since made himself into his own ringmaster. He directs the lights and attention towards beautiful, dangerous acts so no one's eyes ever land on the half-starved beast onstage that's often caged, always chained, and never truly hidden.
Hmm got entirely off track again but whenever I think about Akechi I black out and awaken hours later in an unfamiliar location, covered in blood.
MARUKI YOU ARE A JENGA TOWER. WHAT IS YOUR FUCKING DEAL
#also akira in my eyes really subverts the#silent protagonist could be anyone idea#bc with all his foils and other metaverse users its clear to see that no! it wouldnt go the same with anyone else as protag!#yknow like how a tragedy is far less tragic when there is literally no feasible escape for the characters#than when there is a clear escape but the tragedy is in knowing the character wont take it. because they are themselves#akira only “could be anyone” in the sense that he personifies the ideal of rebllion#so its less “akira could be anyone” and more “anyone can be akira”#akira cant be anything less than himself. and his Self is the audience's Potential
