The next few days blurred together as the courtroom became a battleground. The air was thick with tension, the walls seemingly closing in around you as each new revelation about Ward Cameron was brought to light. The stakes were higher than they had ever been before. The pressure to win, to protect Willa, pressed down on you like an invisible weight, and the only thing that kept you grounded was the unwavering support from Rafe by your side.
Each morning you walked into the courthouse, the same grim faces of the Cameron family greeted you. Ward was there, his presence looming over the proceedings like a dark cloud. His smugness hadn't faltered, and even though he was under intense scrutiny, he still acted like he was above it all. He never once looked at you or Rafe directly—only ever speaking to his lawyers in low, controlled tones, as though his guilt was something he could keep hidden.
But it wouldn’t last.
Today, you were ready. You had no intention of backing down. You had the truth on your side, and that was something Ward could never escape.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
The courtroom was packed as usual, and you sat in your chair, feeling the weight of all eyes on you. Rafe, though his jaw was clenched and his eyes narrowed with focus, sat beside you. The final moments of this battle were drawing near, and today was the day you hoped would shift everything in your favor.
Ward’s lawyer had spent the last few hours trying to discredit the evidence you’d found in the attic—claiming it was old, irrelevant, that it had nothing to do with Willa’s future. But the judge had seen through those arguments, and as you waited for the next moment to arrive, your heart beat steadily in your chest.
Rafe’s lawyer stood, clearing his throat as he prepared to present the final piece of evidence. A stack of photographs, medical reports, and those damning letters Sarah had written in secret. Rafe held your hand under the table, a gesture so small yet filled with so much meaning. You squeezed his hand in return, a silent promise to him that you would do your part.
“Your Honor,” Rafe’s lawyer began, “we’ve gathered new evidence that clearly shows the abusive history of Mr. Ward Cameron. This evidence is not just hearsay—it is documented, it is real, and it is a direct reflection of the environment in which Rafe and his sister, Sarah, were forced to grow up. These letters, these photos, they paint a portrait of emotional and physical abuse, a history that has haunted the Cameron family for years.”
The lawyer presented each piece, and the courtroom fell into a tense silence. You could feel Ward’s gaze burning into you, but you refused to look back. This was it. You were done being intimidated.
When the lawyer finished, the judge nodded, his expression unreadable, but there was a flicker of something in his eyes—a flicker of doubt now cast on Ward’s credibility.
And then, it was your turn.
You stood up from your seat, your legs shaking but your resolve as solid as ever. You walked to the stand, the weight of the moment sinking in. You could feel the tension rising, the murmurs in the courtroom fading as all eyes turned to you. You took a deep breath, gathering your thoughts, and then you spoke.
“Your Honor, I know you’ve heard a lot of things about Rafe Cameron in this courtroom,” you began, your voice steady despite the emotions swirling inside. “I know what people say about him. That he’s angry, that he’s dangerous, that he’s just another spoiled rich kid who doesn’t care about anyone but himself. But that’s not who he is. And that’s not the person he’s been to Willa.”
Your eyes searched for Rafe in the crowd, and when you found him, there was a look in his eyes that you couldn’t quite place—a mixture of vulnerability and strength that you hadn’t seen before.
“I’ve known Rafe for a long time. And yes, he has a past—one that’s been shaped by a father who made him believe that love was something earned, not something given. But that’s not the Rafe I’ve seen over the past few months. The man who sits here today is a man who has stepped up for his niece, a man who, despite his own hurt, has taken responsibility for her, for them. And I’ve seen him with Willa. I’ve seen how he cares for her.”
You turned slightly to look at Rafe again, your heart swelling with something you couldn’t quite put into words. You had seen him grow into a man who loved fiercely and without hesitation. A man who would never, ever let someone like Ward tear apart what he was trying to build.
“I’ve seen him comfort her when she’s scared. I’ve seen him stay up all night with her when she’s sick. I’ve seen him put aside his own pain to make sure she’s okay. He’s been there for her in ways that no one ever was for him. He’s been a better father figure than Ward Cameron could ever be.”
Tears pricked at the corners of your eyes, but you forced them back. You weren’t going to break now—not in front of the court, not when you were so close.
“You want to know the truth?” you continued, your voice rising with emotion. “The truth is, Rafe Cameron is one of the most caring people I know. And he has done everything in his power to make sure that Willa grows up with love, safety, and stability. He is not like his father. And he is not the man they say he is.”
You paused, your chest tightening, but you pushed forward. “I’m not just here to testify for Rafe. I’m here to testify for Willa. She deserves a childhood full of love and protection. And I promise you, Your Honor, that is what Rafe will give her. I’ll give her too. We will do this together.”
The courtroom was silent when you finished, the weight of your words hanging in the air. You could hear the sharp intake of breath from those who had been skeptical of your testimony. Even Ward seemed taken aback, his smug expression faltering just for a moment.
You sat back down, trying to steady your breath, your hands trembling. You didn’t know what was going to happen next, but for the first time in a long time, you felt hope.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
After a long deliberation, the judge returned to the bench. You could feel Rafe’s tension beside you, his hand gripping yours as he waited for the decision.
The room held its breath as the judge spoke, his voice calm but firm. “After reviewing all the evidence, including the newly presented documentation of Mr. Ward Cameron’s abusive behavior and the heartfelt testimony regarding the current guardianship situation, this court finds that the best interest of Willa Routledge lies with her current guardians—Rafe and [Y/N]. The court hereby grants full custody to the guardians of the child, effective immediately.”
For a moment, you couldn’t process what you had just heard. And then it hit you, crashing through you like a wave. You had won.
Rafe, who had been so stoic, looked at you in disbelief. His grip on your hand tightened, and for a moment, all the pain, all the struggle, all the long nights of worry faded into the background. You had done it. Willa was safe.
Tears welled up in your eyes as you looked at Rafe. You had fought together—and now, for the first time since Sarah and John B. had passed, you both had a reason to believe in the future again.
Rafe squeezed your hand, his voice thick with emotion. “We did it. We really did it.”
And as the gavel came down, sealing the decision, you finally allowed yourself to breathe again.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
The courtroom was still buzzing with the aftermath of the judge’s ruling. The gavel had just come down, the words of victory still echoing in your ears. Willa was finally safe, and you had won—together. You and Rafe exchanged a look, one that held a mix of disbelief and relief. There were no more battles to fight. The war was over, and you had come out on top.
But just as you thought you could breathe again, the door to the courtroom swung open with a heavy slam. Ward Cameron.
His face was a mask of rage, his eyes burning with fury as he stormed toward the front. The room fell silent, the tension thickening again as people shifted uncomfortably in their seats. You knew this wasn’t over. Ward wasn’t the type to let go of a loss easily.
“You think you’ve won?” Ward spat, his voice dripping with venom. His eyes locked on Rafe, and for a moment, it was like the room itself shrank. His presence alone seemed to warp the air around you, making the world feel smaller. “This isn’t over, boy. I’ll make sure you never get to raise that child. You don’t deserve her. None of you do.”
Rafe stood up immediately, his jaw tightening, fists clenched at his sides. “You’re the last person who gets to tell me what I deserve,” Rafe growled, his voice low but laced with fury. The anger between them had been simmering for years, but now it was a live wire, crackling between them.
You could feel Rafe’s anger radiating beside you, but you stood quickly, placing a hand on his arm. “Rafe, it’s done. The decision is made. You’re not going to change it by causing a scene.”
Ward sneered at you, his eyes narrowing in disdain. “You think this is over, huh? You think just because you got some courtroom victory, I’m going to back off? You’re both fools. I’ll fight you every step of the way.”
Before you could respond, Ward turned his eyes back to Rafe. “You’re weak. Just like your mother. Just like Sarah. Always the disappointment.” His words were sharp, like daggers aimed right at Rafe’s chest, trying to cut deep.
You could see the tension in Rafe’s posture, his muscles tensing, but before he could say anything, Ward took a step forward, getting dangerously close.
That’s when security stepped in.
“Mr. Cameron, that’s enough,” one of the officers said sternly, moving toward him with authority. “You need to leave now.”
Ward didn’t seem to care. He stepped closer, jabbing a finger toward Rafe. “I’m not finished with you. Not by a long shot.” His voice was shaking with rage.
But before he could take another step, two security guards moved in, grabbing his arms and pulling him back. Ward tried to shove them off, but they held firm, dragging him away from the front of the courtroom.
“You’ll regret this, Rafe!” Ward yelled, his voice echoing through the room as he was escorted out. “I’ll make sure of it!”
The door slammed shut behind him, and the room was filled with an uncomfortable silence. But slowly, the tension began to ebb. People exchanged glances, whispered amongst themselves. There was no question now—Ward Cameron had lost. But the question remained: would he ever truly accept it?
Rafe stood there, his body rigid with anger, his fists still clenched. You could see the way his hands shook, the way his jaw clenched tighter with each breath. But he didn’t say a word. Not yet. Instead, he took a deep breath, his shoulders sagging slightly as he turned to face you.
You walked over to him, your heart heavy with everything that had just happened. His face was pale, his eyes distant. You reached out, touching his arm gently, but he didn’t pull away.
“Are you okay?” you asked quietly, knowing full well that the words didn’t do justice to the storm that was brewing inside him.
Rafe exhaled slowly, a long, tortured sound. “Yeah
I will be.” He paused, then added in a quieter voice, “I just never thought it would be this hard. To finally win
and still have him out there.”
You nodded, understanding all too well. “It won’t be easy. But we’ve got each other. And we’ve got Willa. That’s all that matters.”
Rafe looked down at the floor for a long moment, his hand running through his hair. “I hate that he still has this hold on me, on all of us,” he murmured. “I hate that even after everything, he can just show up and make me feel like I’m still that kid. Like I’m still the one who doesn’t deserve anything.”
You stepped closer, placing a hand on his shoulder. “He doesn’t control you anymore. He never will again. You’re not that kid anymore, Rafe. And you’ve earned the right to protect Willa. You are her family.”
Rafe didn’t look up immediately, but the words seemed to sink in. His breath was steadier now, his expression softer. Finally, he met your gaze, his eyes filled with a mixture of exhaustion and something deeper—something you had seen in him all along, but only now, in this moment, could you truly recognize.
“We’ll keep fighting for her,” he said, his voice firm, though still weary. “No matter what it takes.”
You nodded, knowing that together, you would face whatever came next. The fight wasn’t over. Ward might not have given up, but neither had you—or Rafe.
You turned to the door, where Willa’s social worker was waiting for you, her smile soft and reassuring. It was done. Willa was safe. And despite the lingering presence of Ward, despite the obstacles still ahead, for the first time in a long time, you felt like maybe—just maybe—you could finally begin to heal.
And together, you would build the family that Sarah and John B. had wanted for her all along.

It's not just the fact that Hori decided to kill a lifelong victim of grooming.
My two favorite comic book storylines are New Teen Titans Judas Contract, and Uncanny X Men's Inferno. They both feature villains / victims (Madelyne Pryor and Terra) that die at the end of the story. Terra is specifically fifteen years old and a victim of sexual grooming.
However, both of these stories are clearly written as tragedies. It's clear from the start that these are tragic stories not only meant to get us to sympathize with the victim turned villain but also the failure to save a clear victim is meant to make the heroes look bad.
Let me just list off all the shit Scott Summers put Madelyne Pryor through.
Fell in love with her only because she looked like his ex girlfriend Jean. Even though Madelyne specifically stated before getting into the relationship she didn't want to be jeans replacement.
Married her, and refuses to take time off to the point where he misses the birth of his own son leaving Madelyne at home to deliver her baby on the floor.
When he finally retires and they move to Alaska together he gets a phone call that Jean is still alive and abandons his wife and daughter for weeks to go back to his high school girlfriend.
Madelyne is attacked by a group of supervillains while Scott is away and just barely manages to escape but loses her baby.
She joins up with the x men to look for scott only to find out in the time she's been gone Scott had already gotten back together with Jean.
She is tricked into making a deal with a demon who wants to overthrow ilyanas control of limbo (she thought it was just a dream and the contract to sell her soul didn't matter).
She used her newfound power in order to find her child Nathan only to find Mr sinister there who reveals that Madelyne was a clone of Jean Grey, her entire life was a lie, she was made to breed with cyclops and produce a baby for sinister.
At which point madelyne snaps and decides to burn everything to the ground and kill her own child.
It's clearly telegraphed as a tragedy. The reference to Medea is pretty obvious. Madelyne had no chance from the beginning, however even in this tragedy Scott specifically forbid any of the heroes from using lethal force on her. Jean and Maddie mindmeld at one point and Jean literally begs for Maddie not to die and that she should live on to raise her son. They even throw a funeral for Maddie afterwards because be no one else would ever mourn her.
Not only do the heroes look bad, especially Scott for not being able to save her, they do at least try to talk with her, use non lethal force, and beg her at one point to let them help her.
On the other hand not only did Deku never engage Shigaraki Tomura once, just the vision of a crying child in front of him. Deku doesn't look like a failure for failing in his goal to save him he's still the greatest hero, they don't hold a funeral for Shigaraki, Dekus last words are about how he doesn't forgive Shigaraki (and therefore he deserves to die i guess because deku is the punisher now). Deku doesn't even give Shigaraki the respect of calling him by his preferred name he just calls him Tenko who was the only person Deku cared about saving.
It's not just about a victim dying it's about how the story promised us over and over again the kids were going to save the villains in the final act, that this was going to be an optimistic story about the new generation being better than the old.
Only for Horikoshi to deliver something entirely different. If I'm watching punisher I know what I'm getting into. I'm here to watch Frank Castle shoot mobsters. If Batman picks up a Tommy Gun and starts shooting mobsters that's bad because Batman wouldn't do that shit.
There's writing a story that's tonally inconsistent, or changing your plans for how a character is going to end late in the game and then there's this.
Which is basically narrative gaslighting. Where one thing is clearly happening onscreen but the narrative needs you to believe those gaslights clearly are not dimming.
I know Deku made no effort to save Shigaraki when he explicitly said they OFA is a power for saving but not killing, but don't worry Deku became the greatest hero anyway, and this is still a happy optimistic ending!
Horikoshi isn't looking for treasure in the house. Those gaslights aren't dimming. You're clearly being hysterical, woman.

“Sit still. Alessio.”
A whine follows the command. Your boyfriend’s head falls back onto your shoulder, and breathes in deep before letting a groan rumble out of his throat. One you can only roll your eyes at, while you keep reading.
And hour.
Punished to sit on your cock for an hour, not allowed to do anything but keep it warm and snug inside of his pretty little ass.
You’ve joked enough about how his ass feels as though it hasn’t taken you more than a few days in a row now. He’s clenching away at you like he’s depending on it
“Did you see what I wrote last week? On biological warfare and how it affects. . .” Oh and you ramble on as he zones out. The slight pulse and twitch of your cock sends him into dizzy episodes that feel like electricity sparking down his spine and up.
Breath so heavy he sounds like a dog panting slowly. You assume drool is trickling down his chin without him even knowing by now. You feel the squeeze of his tight ass around you. It is tempting. You could reach down to his cock and begin pumping away, perhaps? Oh but it would ruin the fun.
Is it really so painful? To sit still while you do your little rambles and research for him? He agreed to sit here with you, so why is he not enjoying it some more? Having you inside of him should be enough to make him sit and spill a bit.
Oh, but you might as well give the poor man on top of you a little grind. For good measures, no?
So you do, hips grinding upwards, your balls smacking against his skin after an experimental thrust. It felt too good not to. . . Damn this man and his tight ass. You have to wait with spreading him across the desk until later.
Patience is virtue and the key to torture him a little longer after being a brat since yesterday. Teasing you about your newest project.
He wants to tease? Then let him have some of it back.
His hips move downwards immediately to meet the grind. Before they buck desperately to see if you will chase after him and pull a few more whines from him.
Large, olive skinned hands clench around the seat of the chair. A groan escaping his lips when you do indeed follow. But grab onto his hips to smack him back down on you and keep him still.
“Fuck,” the hiss is music to your ears. Your eyes so full of lust that you do not display to him. However you are sure he can hear it just clear in the husky chuckle that manages past your lips.
“I told you to listen to me when I spoke. Now. Sit still.”
He lets out a cry of dismay, it is so unfair. You’re fucking with the man who’s libido rages on like a wildfire and you tell him to sit still and do nothing. This sort of punishment, it is too hard on him. Oh woes and tragedy!
“If you want it, stop crying, and beg.” What malicious words to tell him. But what else does he do, other than comply.
“Please, Please I beg of you to just start fucking me. I can’t takethisanymore— a-anhgh cariñooooooo!” His eyes roll back at the moment bliss hits him. You fuck up into him, hitting all of the spots that he has been spilling tears and drool for you to pound.
You, on the other hand, get to put your little work frustrations out of him. He minds not, as long as he gets to feel the hard and fast pace of your cock moving up against his gummy walls he is happy. And in turn he squeezes the life out of you.
“Ffffffffuuuuuuckkk. such a tight ass, that’s it. c’mon Arias. Take it.”
The pace itself sends you into a delirious state. Having felt his warmth around you so long made you realise just how good it feels to be moving around once more. Your hand gripping onto his hips to move him forwards to the desk. Leaving him bent over to take it all. Cock dripping with cum that soon spurts it instead as your hand comes to aid it’s weeping tip.

Shadow is alone in Sonic 3:
an analysis of the tragedy of his character in the movie vs SA2.
spoilers for movie 3 below.
one of the most depressing parts of Shadow in Sonic 3, to me, is that he is completely alone for most of the movie. not in the literal sense, of course, but more in the sense of how everyone around him treats him along with how the world as a whole views him.
this stands in stark contrast to SA2’s telling of his story. in SA2, shadow is still lonely and somewhat isolated, but one person is at least a bit connected with him over the course of the game: rouge.
shadow sees rouge in that dire moment on prison island and thinks of maria, making it clear that he’s beginning to think of the two in connection. when rouge is in danger, he saves her, not wanting to see someone else he knows die like this. in the next cutscene on the ark, a flashback of a conversation between shadow and maria is immediately followed by a conversation between shadow and rouge in the same place, where rouge thanks shadow for saving her, and questions shadow if there were deeper reasons for him saving her than just for the emeralds
throughout the rest of the dark story, shadow and rouge not only work as teammates, but there are repeated parallels and connections drawn between maria and rouge. shadow, in some ways, has begun to view rouge in similar ways to maria, or at least value rouge in some way.
when rouge is found out as a spy, rouge grills shadow for possibly not being the real ultimate lifeform and possibly even his memories being implanted. shadow clearly takes rouge’s words to heart, as his tone of voice when he’s reaffirming that he’s still himself is shaky and not very resolved.
ultimately, shadow forms some kind of attachment to rouge, or at least a basic connection on some level. likewise, rouge also seems to at least appreciate him in some manner. shadow isn’t truly alone in SA2 with rouge around. it’s no replacement for maria, of course, but it’s something.
on the other hand, shadow in the movie doesn’t have a rouge.
in the beginning, he is on the run from GUN. he is frustrated, angry, confused, depressed, scared, and most importantly alone. no one, at least in tokyo, even is allied with shadow in any capacity. gerald isn’t there yet, there’s no rouge, no one, not even eggman, to greet him as an ally or teammate in the beginning. in SA2, shadow at least finds an ally in eggman when he escapes his capsule, but here, he has no one.
he doesn’t even remotely trust sonic and his friends since he, in shadow’s words, jumped out of a GUN helicopter.
he goes to the old GUN base to find any semblance of comfort or familiarity, and it’s seemingly empty upon his arrival. when gerald reveals himself to shadow, shadow immediately confides in the professor about his pain. he’s so desperate to share his grief and cling onto anyone that can sympathize with him, but from the beginning, gerald maintains distance with shadow. gerald convinces shadow that destroying the planet is the way to stop his pain, but he’s never really the teammate or friend shadow needs. he’s no rouge.
his brief interactions with stone in london again show that he’s clinging to anyone that might even be remotely close to him or on his side, but since stone is oblivious to gerald’s true plan and thus shadow maintains distance, shadow never really connects with him super deeply
not to mention how they’re around each other for about like 20 minutes at most before tails literally flushes them out of the sewers, with shadow leaving stone to complete his mission.
shadow does briefly see the connection between sonic and himself when he injures tom, but he doesn’t have or give himself any time to process it.
from there, shadow is only around gerald and eggman, who are in their own brewing conflict. shadow thus is just kinda there, not able to have time alone with gerald, or connect significantly with him. gerald only reaches out to shadow to aggravate him enough to power up the cannon.
and then, when shadow finally begins to connect with someone, that being sonic after their fight, it’s clear that shadow has somewhat resigned himself to the fate of sacrificing himself to save the world. from the beginning of their allyship, it’s clear to me that shadow is more at peace and less conflicted than he even really was in SA2, and i think that’s because he isn’t expecting himself to survive at all. his self-sacrificial mentality hasn’t changed much since the beginning of the movie, its objective has just shifted from vengeance to protection.
thus, even his connection to sonic is kinda hollow in the end, because it’s at a point where it’s too late for shadow to actually take some time to connect with sonic. it’s too late for shadow himself to be saved or even properly grieve, and shadow knows that.
what is consistent to me is the inconsistency of people surrounding him in the movie. shadow doesn’t have that consistent connection he can lean into even a little like he has with rouge in SA2. gerald, the one person in the movie that even somewhat consistently is around shadow, doesn’t treat shadow as an equal, he treats him as a subordinate. rouge treated shadow as a teammate and thus an equal. and in the end of SA2, everyone clearly cared at least a little for shadow, and rouge, amy, and sonic were all able to explicitly demonstrate that to him before he “died”. in the movie, it’s only sonic who is able to do that, and by then shadow’s not had any chance to connect without certain death looming right in front of him. sonic’s chances to deeply connect with shadow earlier in the movie were nonexistent since shadow only saw him for who he had allied with: GUN.
it is a relief that shadow at least found a friend in sonic before he “died,” but again, it’s not the same kind of connection that Rouge had with him in SA2.
shadow in the movie is going through pure grief, raw, without memory manipulation. and for most of it, he’s doing it without anyone that’s really there to comfort or sympathize with him.
that’s really tragic to me. like, the fact that shadow doesn’t even get the chance to properly have even a second to shed a tear for maria like he did in SA2 before resigning himself to death is just
 damn.
at least he got a second chance now. it might be a struggle, but hopefully when he has this time in the future to process his grief, he has people to share it with.
i want to give shadow the biggest longest hug ever. he needs one.

Bad Boy
A few meta-type thoughts about Bad Boy, now the dust has started to settle.  There could hardly have been more hype in the run up to the release of Shingeki FLY, but Bad Boy certainly delivered.  It’s classic Isayama; for such a short chapter it really packs an emotional punch, blending real pathos and tragedy with shockingly graphic violence and body horror.  It doesn't really add anything to the over all plot, which is to be expected, but it does provide insight into Levi’s character and answers one question that fans have been speculating about for years.
The story of why Levi holds his tea cup in such a peculiar way isn’t new. Isayama mentioned this in a magazine interview (I think?) way back in 2014
Q:
why he has such way of holding cup? Isayama: About that, I was thinking of drawing this one day. When he was a kid, Levi was living in slums and poverty. He was yearning for a life in clean & neat environment (not rich life). When he finally obtained the tea and tea set those he has been desperately wanted, he was rejoicing that finally he can drink it. But when he started to grip on the handle and lift up the cup, the handle came off and his cup was shattered. He was so traumatised by this experience and that’s why he changed his way of holding cups to not using the handle.
However we now know that the cup belonged to his mother and the extraordinary lengths Levi went to recover it. What is new is that we finally have confirmation of when Levi’s Ackerpowers were awakened.  Fans have been arguing about this for years; some thought it was when he killed the man with the knife immediately before Kenny left, others suggested it was when Farlan and Isabel were killed. Now we finally have an answer.  It’s not exactly clear how much time has lapsed between Kenny taking Levi in, his powers awakening, and Kenny leaving, however the fact that Kuchel’s tea set hadn’t yet made its way to the surface suggests that not much time had passed at all.
Levi’s description of his powers awakening is fascinating;
“Strangely enough I didn’t doubt what was happening to me at that moment. The pain had vanished, my head was calm, as if it had been immersed in water. Clear instructions on what to do came to my mind. I simply followed them one by one.”
This is the most information we’ve ever had about the famous Ackerpowers and goes some way to explaining Levi and Mikasa’s preternatural calm and focus when they're fighting.   They really only succumb to panic and despair when their loved ones are threatened.  Think of Mikasa in Shiganshina and at Fort Salta, and Levi when Farlan and Isabel die and when he allows Zeke to escape after Erwin rode out to his death.
The panel illustrating Levi’s powers awakening is also interesting as it looks very like a Titan transformation. This suggests there is more than a grain of truth in what the Yeagers said about Ackermans being a by-product of Titan science, who were able to access the power of the Titans without becoming Titans themselves.
Tumblr media
It’s not difficult to draw a direct line between the abuse and persecution Levi suffered as a child, with his determination to use his power to protect those in need.  Initially he used his strength to protect the vulnerable people of the Underground, such as Isabel, however once he met Erwin he was able to exert his power to serve an even higher goal - saving humanity. Isayama discussed this in the Answers Guidebook way back in 2006 and I think his comments are worth repeating here.
Isayama With the heroes of American comics, conflicts dealing with the situation “with great power, comes great responsibility” have been depicted. In Levi’s case, if he had no power, he would probably have been an ordinary person with no responsibilities but, as a consequence of having power, that he became a person excessively burdened with responsibility. Kenny talked about “everyone
 was a slave to something
”, when he put the question to Levi “what is yours!?”, Levi himself too perceived it. That he himself too was a slave in regard to his own strength. The sense of duty that “I must become a hero”.
the same thing can be said of Mikasa too but
, for the Ackerman family, in the service of their master, there are many people who are able to manifest their power to its maximum.

I think it's also very in keeping with Levi's character that he remained devoted to saving humanity after the Rumbling; providing succour to the children in the refugee camp, and working to renew the environment destroyed by Eren's genocide, despite his injuries and regardless of whether he retained his Ackerpowers.
The title of the chapter, Bad Boy, is also interesting. No one actually calls Levi a “bad boy” in the chapter (though he is called worse) which suggests that this is how Levi sees himself.  It makes me wonder how much he internalised the thug’s insinuation that his mother would have been disappointed in him, and it also recalls Levi’s speech to Historia and the 104th, where he says he’s fine playing the role of the violent lunatic.  Poor baby.
Tumblr media
Another point the chapter clarifies is the origin of Levi’s belief that Kenny was his father.  To be honest, it’s hardly surprising that Levi assumed this considering Kenny clearly had some kind of relationship with his mother and took him in without question. Still, knowing that the seed of that belief was planted by a thug who was willing to torture and kill a child, or sell him into sexual slavery, really twists the knife.
Tumblr media
[Translation by krtk.]
I am a little sad that we didn’t see more of Kenny in the chapter, but his presence certainly looms large.
I had expected to see more of Kuchel but at the same time I’m almost glad we didn’t.  Her life was brutal beyond measure and we’ve already seen her tragic death. Several fans have suggested that the reason we only see Kuchel in partial profile is because Levi’s memories of her are so hazy, all he really recalls is her grace 😱
It’s remarkable that Kuchel was able to retain such poise and grace despite living in such desperate squalor.  @momtaku has made the point that Kuchel appears to have been born into at least modest comfort, judging from Grandpa Ackermans’ home, which would explain where her elegance and also her fancy china came from.  It’s heartbreaking that both she and Levi clung on to this small memento of a better life.
Tumblr media
Levi’s devotion to his mother, his desire to emulate her grace and cling on to her belongings is devastating, is very much in keeping with everything we know about his character.  Levi has boundless compassion, is deeply loyal, and never forgets those he loves, whether it’s Farlan and Isabel, Erwin, or his squad.  He’s also very sentimental; saving his mother’s tea set, and drinking tea evokes a direct connection to Kuchel and the only good thing he remembers from the squalor and cruelty of his childhood. This makes Erwin’s willingness to indulge his sentimentality and bend the rules to procure a steady supply of high quality tea for Levi all the more poignant.
There's been some debate about Gabi's reaction to Levi's story in the final panel...
Tumblr media
Some people have interpreted her expression as holding back tears, while others have suggested she's trying not to laugh. I'm definitely in the stifled laughter camp. It just seems so very typical of Gabi and her relationship with Levi...
Gabi: - winds Levi up - Levi: - trauma dumps - Gabi: - stifled laughter / more wind up - Falco: - actually upset - "Would you guys stop??" Onyankopon: - shade -
It's also very typical of Isayama to poke fun at his characters like this, and it stops the story from tipping over into bathos.
There is one burning question that Bad Boy doesn’t answer and it’s this - what tf was kid Levi doing in Mr Smith’s classroom??
Tumblr media
Despite hoping against hope, I never really expected Isayama to answer this, because he does love to troll his readers.  Is it too much to hope that sometime down the line he’ll reappear with another chapter called School Boy??

Hi! I was just thinking about what made Hermione come to the conclusion that Sirius wants to live through them. Now I last read OOTP a month ago, but I can't remember anything from the conversation that suggests that he wants to live through them, he only said that they should know how to defend themselves because of the environment that will come and that is why the DA is a good idea. And even if Hermione was influenced by Molly during the summer what makes her think that the DA is a bad idea after Sirius says it's a good idea? He gave valid reasons why it is a good idea. Hermione is very smart but this scene just felt and she felt ooc here.
I know that sometimes JKR used characters like Hermione and Dumbledore as spokespersons about what she wanted the audience to know that's why we get Hermione saying that but if that's what she wanted us to think, she did a poor job because Sirius actually kind of right and it makes Hermione look biased against Sirius.
Same with Dumbledore in that conversation with Harry after Sirius's death and it sucks. She wanted us to think Sirius saw Kreacher as inferior because of his species but that's not true at all. Now, some scenes with Sirius and Kreacher made me uncomfortable and I am not going to lie about it. But Sirius hated Kreacher because he was a part of his abusive childhood and repeated the same bigoted stuff his family thought and let's not forget Sirius only got violent with him when he called Hermione a slur. So Dumbledore saying that just feels so ooc because usually he is so wise (but once i read a meta about him seeing Sirius as Grindelwald and thinking by that meta it gives us an interesting perspective about this conversation as well).
Sorry this is getting long 😅. Anyways my point is that none of it makes any sense. It is clear that JKR was biased against Sirius and to show that she brought two other characters down (though these moments can be seen as interesting flaws in them)
Have a lovely day! (Sorry about the long ask, I hope it makes sense)
Honestly, while JKR is a brilliant writer, I also find her fairly reactionary in her writing style. Sirius was one of the most popular characters in the story because she wrote him that way, he inadvertently became more popular than a lot of other characters she preferred because again, she WROTE him that way. Perhaps the creation of a character as multi-faceted and dynamic as Sirius is was entirely by accident, as she really seems to double down on the character assassination as the books go by, but regardless, there's little in the way of canonical proof to suggest that Sirius is trying to live a vicarious life through the kids. Especially cause he's the one who seems to understand what they actually need after all they've been through instead of just patronising them.
Sirius is the only one who takes Harry seriously, he is the only one who tries to not just physically be there like the others, but actually also provide emotional support. He's constantly been doing this since he escaped Azkaban, and at this point, both in the case of Harry generally, and the Weasleys specifically when Arthur was injured, he's repeatedly looking after others at his own personal cost. He gets Ron an Owl, almost tells Harry how to beat a dragon (and that's the kind of stuff Sirius Black simply just goes around knowing, how to take down Dragons), gets Harry his firebolt and Hogsmeade slip. Sirius is generally an emotionally intelligent person, and this is after 12 years of forced isolation from civilisation.
The tragedy of Sirius' arc in OOTP is that there's no one around him who can relate to his experiences. This makes it impossible for Sirius to find the kind of empathy and support he needs from the members of the order. By OOTP, Sirius' mental health, whilst constantly deteriorating is also displayed on technicolour before the entire cast. He's not allowed any secrets, his abusive childhood, his unprocessed grief, years of dementor and solitary confinement related trauma, the fact that he lost his entire twenties, his burgeoning alcoholism is all on display and not spared judgement from the self-righteous members of the Order who did not support him at 21 and are not going to support him at 33.
Furthermore, the narrative repeatedly validates him. He insists that Harry should be told the truth, and he's right, he insists that he can do more instead of just being locked up and left alone and he's right, he wants Snape to restart Harry's lessons and he's right, he repeatedly and actively disagrees with Dumbledore's opaque methods and again, he's right. He gives Harry the two way mirror because Harry needs him to be there, and as Godfather, it is Sirius' responsibility to find a safe way to ensure that happens.
Whilst he's not at his best, he's still trying, he's trying so hard to be what everyone needs him to be even when its contrary to his own instincts and emotional needs which are either dismissed entirely by the people around him or mocked with derogatory catchphrases like "fit of the sullens" that its genuinely heartbreaking that despite him going out of his way to help the Order, not only is his devotion not returned it's barely even acknowledged. They never try to acquit him, there's no mission run by the Order to try and recapture Peter or get Sirius a trial or even an opportunity to give a press conference (which, with the political climate in OOTP would actually be a great way to discredit the ministry), Dumbledore pretty much just locked him in and threw away the key, a circumstance not entirely different from the past 12 years of Sirius' unfortunately short life. An acquitted Sirius would mean a discredited justice system and ministry and also a powerful wizard to run missions again, but this prospect is not even brought up let alone addressed. He gets a posthumous consolation through a footnote in the Daily Prophet, like that could compensate for the trauma and the decade he's lost.
I think it's very binary to put people into boxes and go "this person is only these set of traits and that's all they can be." Sirius is more than his grief for the Potters and love for Harry and years of isolation and torture. He's a brilliant detective, one of the order's most powerful duelists, someone who is blatantly not afraid of calling people out, be it Walburga or Crouch or Dumbledore, someone who despite growing up in a cesspit of bigotry and violence fights for people like Lily Potter and Remus Lupin and Hermione Granger. The guy who barely tolerates Kreacher but is distasteful of Crouch's treatment of Winky. Sirius, like most people, comes with facets and is possibly one of JKR's finest creations. Not that she seemed to realise it herself.
Not that that's surprising.
The most interesting thing about Sirius and Dumbledore, and Dumbledore's repeated refusal to trust Sirius is that unlike pretty much everyone else in the order, Sirius knows that Dumbledore and Grindewald used to be friends. Lily wrote it to him and Sirius read it. If Sirius could figure out the GoF plot while being half starved to death and living in a cave, a free healthy Sirius with a very much alive James Potter would probably have put the whole plot together. I wonder how much that influenced their dynamic in OOTP because whilst the others have nothing on Dumbledore, Sirius does. If Sirius can spare Dumbledore his judgement despite knowing the truth, Dumbledore can get over Sirius being a Black.

Staying Over at Rohan Kishibe’s House for the First Time Headcanons
↳ Takes place after Kira escapes from the Duwang gang and assumes another identity. Reader hinted to be a stand user. Gender neutral Reader with they/them pronouns.
A/n: I’ve recently started the live action Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan show; I adore it. I’m rather biased towards his character, finding him wildly entertaining. But Araki, man, I get you. I hope y’all enjoy! <3
Warning(s): Canon-typical danger; mentions of Kira’s crimes and the threat he imposes.
Tumblr media
You’ve only been going out with Rohan Kishibe for a month or two.
When the manga artist took a month’s long hiatus from publishing- due to a rather unfortunate scuffle with one Josuke Higashitaka -you’d been by his side nearly day and night. Considering the state his body was in, you couldn’t help but fuss over him all throughout his recovery.
The first couple of days, Rohan was bitter and insisted his own independence.
He claimed he ‘doesn’t need anyone's help,’ but his protests ultimately fell on deaf ears. You made it clear you weren’t budging; proving to be just as stubborn as he is.
A handful of days into the new routine, he grew quiet.
And to your credit, you didn’t bat much of an eye at that. If you were at all curious over the change in his behavior, you kept that to yourself. Keeping any questions inside as you continued to dote on him. He
found that he really appreciated that.
And after some consideration, the free time allowing him to ponder, he better understood just how much he appreciates you. Wrapping his head around it
he would’ve grown annoyed at the trouble if it weren’t for his fondness for you.
Eventually, after the first week, it seemed to you that he suddenly started silently accepting your help out of the blue.
There was no pushing back against the assistance anymore.
Rohan needed to take the time off from writing or drawing, liking it or not. Having specifically your company to fill the time
well, he could’ve done worse (His exact words).
Whether or not Rohan had the beating coming didn’t once cross your mind; only your concern over his well-being plagued your thoughts. It’s something that came so naturally to you; the feelings you harbor for the mangaka not as much of a hassle for you to digest.
That said, neither did the possibility of him taking any note of your kindness reach your train of thought. At first, you figured him saying any variation of ‘thank you’ was just politeness.
Even less
your deeper affection for him is another thing you figured would go unaddressed.
Regardless of your surprise, the time spent together proved to be the final push the both of you needed to make things official.
He was direct, almost blunt, when asking you about your feelings for him. Eyes focused on you, falling expectantly silent as he waited for an answer.
When did he notice? How long had he been sitting on asking you about it? You could only guess.
But the relationship that formed that day was more than enough for you to be thankful you’d been completely honest with him.
It’s
rather unfortunate a relationship blossomed during such a dark time for the quiet town of Morioh. Koichi, Josuke, and Okuyasu shared the same sentiment on the matter.
Fast forward a handful of weeks later and tragedy struck once more. The killer had taken action against a middle schooler; his devilish nature clearly knowing no bounds.
Although you didn’t know the boy personally, just the thought of this illusive killer taking a young life so completely without hint or warning
it quickly sent shivers down your spine.
After meeting with the other stand users in town, the lump in your throat only became thicker. Your stomach swirling, and palms growing clammy.
The little crowd ïżŒdissipated, and you walked away from the gathering with Rohan at your side.
The two of you remained silent; too much on both of your minds to speak.
Your gaze stayed fixated on the concrete sidewalk. Each crack or indent from lifetimes of personalities meeting it’s support
and possibility being used by him. Your feet potentially using a route the killar has utilized at least once in all his time in Morioh.
That possibility makes another chill roll down your spine.
You would’ve thought yourself to be paranoid if it weren’t the reality you were living. Succumbing to your darkest thoughts and a level of anxiety that somehow kept your body moving forward on auto-pilot.
At least, that was until the mangaka walking beside you finally spoke up, not even glancing your way as he did so.
“You should stay at my place for the time being,” he had told you in a frank tone, “Your stand still hasn’t fully materialized like mine or the others. If the killer were to track you down, you’d likely be at a huge disadvantage. You’re staying with me.”
If it were coming from anyone else, you’d consider slapping them due to the nerve of it.
But this is Rohan... and reading into his actions has become second nature to you at this point.
You considered his earlier quietness; what you could discern from a quick glance minutes ago. His eyes sharp with thought, and the usually comfortable silence uncharacteristically thick with tension.
His decisive tone didn’t come as a surprise, but the commanding structure and choice of his words got the gears in your mind turning.
Rohan’s reasoning was sound, sure, but a man like him only ever speaks with purpose. He means every word that pools from his lips. And the knowledge of how he behaves in less extreme situations implicitly reveals his true feelings on the matter:
He was worried.
The killer’s ability to murder right underneath everyone’s noses became real that day. Even with the previous killings, it didn’t strike the same chord until one of your own had been lost. No one is untouchable, and that strikes fear.
In short, the killer is dangerous... and likely knows people are out looking for him.
Rohan would never speak a word of it, but that reality struck unease even into him. If not maybe for his own sake, but for yours.
And it manifests exactly as you would expect. It could easily be left unnoticed, but you know him better than to miss such a thing.
Rohan’s motivation was clear in no time at all. The town just lost another child to this monster. Hell if he’s going to let you to slip right from underneath his nose.
Coupled with that overwhelming weight, as well as his own personal habits, don’t expect staying over at his place to feel all that domestic as soon as you cross through the front door.
Rohan cares about you, of course, but that’s not going to stop him from making a beeline to his office the moment he’s inside.
His home is familiar, no doubt, but provides no ease with him locked up inside his workroom.
There isn’t a single noise behind the closed door, letting your mind trick yourself into believing you’re alone.
The bare walls and simple furniture don’t assist much either, even with art hung up on display here and there. Only glimpses of personal touch.
As soon as the killer is dealt with, you resolve to press him about decorating more.
Hours pass your very first day there, and the only time you ever see him is when he grabbed a little box of leftovers from the refrigerator for dinner. Only focused on satisfying his body’s need for food, he hadn’t said a passing word.
You knew better than to expect it anyway.
Instead, he simply warmed the food up in an expensive-looking microwave a room away, and was already working on shoving it impatiently in his mouth while walking right back upstairs...
How long has it been since then? you wonder, a soft sigh escaping your lips.
You’ve sat yourself on Rohan's welcoming couch, distracting yourself with late night television. The couch itself is a dull color with nice cushions, but lacking in the household-to-household personality only developed from frequent use. A blanket is lazily wrapped around your shoulders, and the TV screen gently illuminates your face. Your eyes gloss over the images that flash at you, seeing but not registering a single thing.
There’s no helping it. A child died today; the killer slick and tactful enough not to leave a single trace behind.
You turn away from the screen in quiet defeat, gaze wandering out a window in the living room. The sun has long vanished beneath the horizon, the darkness outside not allowing you to view much of anything.
Your eyelids are fighting to stay open despite your mind’s business.
A part of you was hoping Rohan would’ve come out of his study by now, but that’s proven to be wishful thinking. Honestly
I should know better than to assume that, you think to yourself.
The current situation has undoubtedly given him a lot to ponder; a lot to write down.
Staring back towards at his living room TV once more, you give no honest effort in trying to paying attention. The sitcom provides no escape, no relief. It’s nothing real, after all. Just a fantasy fabricated by some executive. The constant laugh tracks grating on the eardrums. The volume is low, but it still disrupts regardless.
Alas, nothing else of such promising whimsy is on.
Your fingertips curl, grasping at the blanket around your shoulders. The soft surface stresses in your tight hold. You bite your lower lip in consideration, so hard you have to cut it out less you accidentally cut any skin.
The show takes a sudden pause to provide a few minutes of advertisements. Images of impossibly tempting pizza and seafood flicker on the screen, price tags proudly displayed and narrations enthusiastically going on about how ‘worth it’ the food is. Your lips tighten, and eyebrows furrow. You’re not hungry, so the images do nothing but annoy.
Still, you do anything to ensure you’re still awake for just a little while longer. A necessary factor in the decision your mind finally screamed at you to just follow through with.
Go say goodnight to Rohan, and just go to freaking bed already.
Moving carefully slow, you work on shutting down the TV and peeling yourself from the couch. You swear the process takes minutes at a time, though you don’t check the clock hanging on the wall to confirm. You’d have to squint in order to properly digest it in the dark lighting; why extend the effort?
Mentally saying goodbye to the living room with a final glance, your feet scrape the wooden flooring to move your body towards the stairs ascending to the second floor.
You’re cautious of making any noise while walking steadily closer to his study, keenly aware of your boyfriend’s need for peace and quiet.
Stopping right in front of the closed door, you take in a deep breath before knocking as lightly as you can muster. Knowing full-well he’d have heard it, you don’t wait for a response before entering.
It’s a privilege you gladly wear on your sleeve.
“Rohan
?” you gingerly call, poking your head into the room.
It’s dimly lit inside, only his desk lamp illuminating whatever it is he’s hunched over. No sunlight is present outside, yet the shades are drawn anyway.
There’s a brief pause before he turns his body around in his chair, looking at you with a raised brow. “What do you need?” he asks.
The tone of his voice is a soft reflection of a gentle atmosphere present in the air. Much more welcoming than the walk earlier. That said, there’s impatience laced in his tone- something that he never cares to hide.
You smile, thankful of his subtle movements.
Sure, he doesn’t like being interrupted by anyone. But even Koichi would be met with a harsh word or two at an interruption.
But you’re different. A familiar and welcome presence. If it weren’t getting so late, he may have offered you to look at what he’s been working on. It’s a fact that either feeds right into your ego or is too flustering to ponder further.
Maybe somewhere in between.
“I was just going to head to bed
I wanted to say goodnight and-” you rub the back of your neck sheepishly. “-I’m also wondering where I should sleep is all. You’ve got a lot of empty rooms, so I just wanted to make sure-“
“Just sleep in my bed,” he cuts you off, the tone of his voice completely serious.
“I-
 your
” you hesitate, taken aback by his bluntness. Rohan is truly something else; causing you to short-circuit with five simple words. “But where will you sleep?”
God, I sound ridiculous, you think.
A chuckle escapes his lips, turning to look down at his desk once more. You hear a distant scraping noise, evidence that he’s started drawing again.
“You know we’re dating, right? I’m still going to work for a while longer. But I’ll join you in bed later.” He tells you, leaning his head back momentarily as if this conversation is a tad bit pointless to him. Still, he adds with a sigh, “But of course, if that would cause you discomfort, then feel free to take the guest bedroom across from mine.”
You shake your head slowly, even though he’s no longer looking at you. Stay in a different room? No way. His sigh tells you he finds that idea undesirable as well.
“I’ll stay with you. I wouldn’t want to be alone tonight anyways. Goodnight then
make sure you get some rest, Rohan,” you say, voice considerably gentler than before.
“Goodnight, Y/n,” he responds. “And since you’re telling me to do so
 then I’ll consider it.”
You can hear the smile in his voice.
He was just so
 upfront about it.
Your eyes stay widened even as you shut his office door. Standing completely still right outside his work space for a full minute before daring to peer down the hallway leading to the master bedroom.
His bedroom
the one he so casually welcomed you to join him in.
That warms your chest for the first time in hours. The smallest amount of comfort is provided just seeing him again. Remembering, oh right, he’s in the same space as you.
But the added prospect of sleeping at his side
that manages to pull your mind away from Morioh’s affliction.
How could you hope to refuse a suggestion like that?
You begin to make your way to the room, but your feet do not drag this time around.
If Rohan said it’s okay, then it really is. There’s no need to doubt yourself when he’s invited you so clearly; he’d be offended if you didn’t take his word for it.
Inside the bedroom is neat and clean.
A little bare, granted, but there is some more artwork hung up on the wall- evidentially an unsurprising consistent in his home. There’s a mirror above a large wooden dresser as well- a photo of his parents sitting on top of the mahogany surface.
The dresser itself is a little redundant, considering a walk-in closet across the room. Or maybe it’s perfectly reasonable. You hardly ever see Rohan wearing the same outfit twice.
The door itself is left thoughtlessly open, the darkness within the confined space making your stomach churn. No windows present inside, it’s the purest void in the home.
You make your way to it in just a couple quick steps, and shut it with a frown on your face.
The door’s soft click shut causes a huff to leave your nostrils, as if you’d just saved yourself from something life-threatening.
The only other notable object in the room, aside from two nightstands, is a large bed.
It’s the only thing within eye-shot not meticulously put together. Sheets and blankets left on the mattress without being remade.
The pillows on one half of the bed still indented from daily use. The sheets themselves are silk, and similarly to the pillows on the same side, the imprint of your boyfriend’s body rolling out it earlier that day is still visible.
He clearly doesn’t spend much time in his bedroom.
You still find yourself hoping the bed smells like him regardless. Silence undercut with the sounds of you discarding the clothes you’d worn that day. They stink of sweat, a reminder of how nervous you’d gotten just before dinner time.
Your sleeping clothes, luckily, hold no such memory. Comfortable and encouraging sleep; just what you needed.
And Lord, you were right about the sheets smelling like Rohan.
Laying down on the unused side of the mattress, you are overwhelmed by a lovely mix of his favorite cologneïżŒ and his natural scent. You’re ashamed to have taken in a couple deep breaths the moment you make yourself comfortable.
After one of the most frightful days of your entire life, you couldn’t think of a better end to it.
Rohan clearly doesn’t cheap out on his own bed set either, much to your delight. The comforter is engulfing and enough to lull your occupied mind into shifting gears.
Now, your only lamenting over just how truly tired you feel. And the silk sheets almost make you feel envious of your boyfriend. Almost.
It would if it weren’t for the simple fact that maybe... just maybe staying over will become a regular occurrence.
Situation called for everyone to look out for one another, but the barrier has been broken regardless. And it’s a pleasant thing to ponder during the last few minutes of your day.
Staying with Rohan. In his own space. A habit lasting long after the killer is gone and dealt with.
Even in the dark, new space, you cannot help but smile. Your eyes finally flutter shut, but the groggy joy displayed doesn’t falter.
Rohan’s casual attitude over you sleeping in the same bed as him makes you believe it really might become a regular occurrence. At least
he likely wouldn’t turn you down asking to stay over for a night (Not that you’ve ever asked before).
The future of your relationship eclipses your fear just long enough to allow for genuine rest.
Already fallen asleep by the time he retreats to the bedroom after hours of non-stop work, Rohan himself slips into the room quietly a few minutes past midnight.
Observing your peaceful form sleeping in his own bed fills him with a sort of pride he only ever used to associate with his writing.
Not that he’d ever directly admit to such a thing. He’s with you after all, and that clearly depicts how he feels.
At least, that’s what he tells himself.
Because regardless
he still finds himself contemplating you while he changes his clothes.
Your understanding of just his actions and the subtle inflections in his expressions is something to be admired.
Hell, you are someone to be admired in general. Pictures of you sprinkled in his sketchbook, an eager desperation to capture what he sees on the page.
He figures he could study you for hours at a time if you let him.
Just a couple months into being official and you’ve already proven yourself to be the loyal partner he always hoped to find, however deep down that desire may had been kept.
Deep down.... he ponders, slipping into bed next to you. Turning his head in your direction, he stares shamelessly while thinking.
Rohan’s own hopes lie in learning how to properly express himself to you.
So accommodating yourself... it makes him want to commit to giving you a fulfilling relationship. It’s a feeling he’s recently gotten around to fully understanding, but one that in the shadows of a gloomy night... he silently embraces.
Just the same as him physically reaching out an arm to embrace you, just before resigning himself to a deep sleep...
When you finally wake, Rohan has already gotten up and left you to sleep in peace. Late to rest, early to rise.
What catches your immediate attention, though, is the smell of coffee brewing in the floor below you. Rubbing the sleep from your eyes, you don’t bother changing just yet before pulling yourself from the mattress. The wooden flooring chills the pads of your feet, but it does nothing to hinder your journey out of his bedroom.
Walking silently down the hall, that smell only hits your nostrils harder. Warm and fresh
you sigh, I can feel myself waking up already.
And if the scent of coffee doesn't do the trick, turning a corner to spot Rohan sipping out of a cup held in his hand at the dining room table certainly does.
His hair is still a bit ruffled from sleep, along with the notable absence of any color variation of headband. A robe lazily holds onto his shoulders, loosely tied around his waist to stay in place. His expression is neutral, face pointed down to the newspaper held in his other hand.
Those familiar green eyes flicker up at you when you enter. Although you tread lightly around his home, any noise around him is hardly ever missed.
“Good morning, Y/n,” he greets you gently, setting down his newspaper. It’s only when he examines you does it cross your mind that you quite literally rolled out of bed, and likely look like it too. An amused expression reaches his face as he adds, “Slept well?”
“Yes... I did,” you confirm, touching the ends of your hair. Only for it to drop a moment later; under his observation your only met with warmth. Prompting you to approach the table instead of growing anxious.
You don’t sit down, but you can more clearly examine the details of his face from your position.
“Your bed is very comfortable,” you go on with a smile. “I’m almost jealous.”
He chuckles at your last statement, his smirk shifting to a more genuine smile. Followed by a nod and hum of approval. Rohan takes a moment to take a sip from his cup of coffee, and you give him that moment patiently.
“I’m glad you think so,” he replies, “I do my best to get my eight hours, after all.”
Being someone so meticulous over environment, his response confirms your suspicion that he takes a special care in where he sleeps. Your smile grows wider.
“You think that means I just need to sleep over in order to get my full eight hours?”
Rohan lets out a scoff at that, the sound hiding a laugh at your eager question. “For me, dear. Not for you. You could sleep on the damn floor for all I care.”
“Now, Rohan-“
“But the theory is certainly worth a try,” he cuts you off, that easy smile still on his face. A mischievous gleam flickering in his eyes.
Oh.
“Then we ought to
your bed is really lovely. I’d hate to waste the opportunity,” you reply, picking up what he was putting down. Your tone turns cheeky as you add, “Plus, getting to sleep next to you
well, that’s cool too, I guess.”
“Just cool? You guess? Sleeping beside me?” he scoffs, taking a sip of his coffee. “I made extra coffee, by the way. Go grab yourself a cup; you clearly need it.”
You laugh at his words, glancing over to the coffee pot still sitting patiently on the stove. It’s tempting to go and do as he suggested right away.
Noting to do so in a moment, you turn back to Rohan and ask, “You’re going to be working most of the day today, I assume?"
“Yes,” he nods, “But I can spare some time in the morning.”
You could just faint.
Once again, you know full well there's no one else he'd be willing to spend extra time lounging about in the morning for other than you.
Sensing the joy his words send you, he tilts his head toward the counter. His eyebrows raising as if to say, ‘I’m not going to ask you again.’
A single night to adjust, and staying over at his place is everything you hoped for.
His hospitality... others may not think it, but Rohan is quite fair. He speaks to you directly, welcoming you to join him in whatever he’s doing if he isn’t burying himself in his work.
Most notably, he’ll want you to help him do any of his research. Or rather, he’d like to info dump while skimming through books in or outside the home.
It’s one of several ways he opens his mind to you.
He’ll make extra coffee for you in the morning, sure, but he’s also insistent on making you dinner- depending how sucked into working he gets.
If you take initiative and cook a meal for the both of you, he won’t let it happen again no matter how grateful he may be. You’re still his guest, after all. Better a host treats their guest (He wants to show off for you).
He’ll take you out with him during his non-work-related errands as well.
Rohan doesn’t explicitly tell you why, but it seems to make mundane tasks much easier for him to endure. He isn’t scowling the entire time if you’re there, at least.
All and all, he hopes this will become a habit as much as you do. Expressing that he likes having you there with him in his own special way.

What people seem to constantly misunderstand about what Akimi Yoshida said regarding how Ash couldn't have just gotten away scot-free from his life of crime is that it ISN'T Yoshida saying Ash "deserved" to die. Yoshida frames Ash as a hero from beginning to end. He's shown to be a genuinely good and kind person, that goodness remarked upon again and again by multiple characters, and his death is seen as a tragedy. That should be enough to convince people that Yoshida didn't hate Ash or think he deserved to die. The fact she frames him in such a positive light shows she understands that Ash is a good person that was forced into doing terrible things for his own survival and the survival of others. So this insistence that she thought he deserved to die because she said in some fan-translated interview that he couldn't just walk away from his life of crime, or that there's a price to be paid for murder, is ridiculous. It relies on nothing but assumption about the character of the author.
It's also a problem in fandom, in general, where interviews with authors, in which they're often giving on the spot and half-baked answers to random questions without any prepreation, are given greater credence in interpreting the author's intent than the actual, published work itself. How about letting the work stand on its own and interpret it as is? I've seen so much hate lobbed at Yoshida for supposedly hating Ash or thinking he deserved to die, when the actual story itself does nothing but portray Ash as deeply sympathetic and tragic. Again, no one could read "Banana Fish" with any level of reading comprehension and come away with anything but the impression that Ash is the hero and a good person who's life and death was deeply unfair and unjust. That fact alone should override any answer Yoshida gave in any interview, especially when it's obvious how much Yoshida hates giving interviews and very obviously, intentionally gives half-assed answers that she doesn't put much thought into. It's clear from the work itself that Yoshida has a great love for Ash as a person and as a character. She based his design off of River Phoenix, her favorite actor, she shares her birthday with him, and again, the way she frames Ash and his actions is as that of a hero, from beginning to end. I don't know, maybe it's because she sees Ash as a hero herself?
Ash dying only demonstrates the point further about how child abuse ruined Ash's life. He was led into a life of crime because of the abuse he suffered, and the fact it was that life of crime that led to his eventual death, with it basically being a gang dispute that got him in the end, only further drives home the point of how devastating and ruinous child abuse is. Ash wasn't a criminal because he was a bad person, he was a criminal because the abuse he suffered drove him to become one, and then, eventually, that life of crime he'd been forced to lead came back on him in the form of Lao stabbing him, which is what I think Yoshida actually means when she says Ash couldn't just walk away from the life of crime he'd lived. That inability to walk away further demonstrates the tragedy of the abuse Ash suffered, because it shows how it forced him into doing things which eventually came back to haunt him, things which he couldn't "escape". Lao stabbing Ash was in consequence to his being a gang leader, and his being a gang leader was a result of the abuse he suffered. The two things are interconnected with one another. It's not about Ash deserving to die because of the lives he'd taken, it's about how the life Ash was forced to live as a result of his abuse eventually led to his death. That's where the whole notion of "you live by the sword, you die by the sword" comes from. It's not necessarily a moral condemnation of the person committing acts of violence, but an acknowledgement that violence begets violence. That violence is cyclical. But the fact of Ash's death as a result of his life of crime only further demonstrates the true devastation wrought by the abuse of children, and that's the ultimate point of "Banana Fish's" ending. It's meant to force us to face, through the tragedy of Ash's death, the tragedy of his life in turn.

Giving Lue art ideas is an honor and a privilege. Also I love munching on video games as literature bc their themes can be furthered in so many little aspects. That ludonarrative!!!!!
Damn Im probably gonna start playing p5r again tonight...
But with the foggy glasses! I love how Akira's glasses are used for humor (especially on that one Akechi date >.>) in scenes that can also be read as foreshadowing/thematic. Bc "glasses obscuring the face & intent of their wearer by being literally opaque" is such instinctual anime/cartoon shorthand that a character's glasses fogging up and making them appear sinister is a really common joke.
But we can compare the cute jokey fogged glasses with Akira's Persona Awakening scene (thanks yt compilation vids). In the cut-scene, his glasses go between amplifying and obscuring his eyes while his internal sense of justice wars with the restraints his experiences made him internalize.
When his glasses fall and he tears off his mask, his expression has never been clearer or more intensely determined. Even with all the blood running down his face.
One of the reasons I read Akira's dialogue options as multiplicity is bc of the moments the choices read better as one continuous thought than separate ideas. "That's enough!" and "I will stop you" are the same resolve in different keys.
And these moments of synergy clarify what being a "Wild Card" means for Akira. His senses of morality and personal responsibility are intrinsic, bedrock. They are so solid that the rest of him must be malleable in order to enact his justice, or even to survive under the thumb of people who'd see that rebellion crushed.
I fully believe that his glasses and general demeanor (that posture!!) are attempts to make himself invisible because he is so liable to pop-off in the face of injustice that someone responding to his judgmental expression with "what? you've got a problem?" is all it'd take for Akira to blow his own life up.
Akira's malleability and multiplicity are found in all the ways rebellion is possible. A person that is in all iterations himself.
MILD AKECHI SPOILERS BELOW IF YOU HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HIS DEAL
Meanwhile, Akechi very obviously struggles with his sense of self. He has two masks and somehow fully immerses himself in both. 2 extreme survival mechanisms that only work if he can convince everyone, including himself, that this is all Akechi Goro is.
Akira wears a mask, performs as jack-of-all-trades, because his Self is so solid the problem comes from its reactivity with society at large. The conflict comes when others see it and try to make him bend, break, but he refuses. Meanwhile, Akechi has been in survival-mode so long his sense of identity outside his masks has nearly entirely atrophied.
Which is why he bites so hard when Akira's sharp eyes land on the beast and can't be redirected. Why his mask breaks when Akira pokes at his soft animal underbelly.
Akira wears glasses as a mask because his sharp gaze draws attention, I imagine his poker face is kinda shit. But Akechi has long since made himself into his own ringmaster. He directs the lights and attention towards beautiful, dangerous acts so no one's eyes ever land on the half-starved beast onstage that's often caged, always chained, and never truly hidden.
Hmm got entirely off track again but whenever I think about Akechi I black out and awaken hours later in an unfamiliar location, covered in blood.
MARUKI YOU ARE A JENGA TOWER. WHAT IS YOUR FUCKING DEAL

Her body shivered as she heard him admit his actions without remorse. This scary man’s name is Lance. He’s dangerous and sadistic, with no moral compass.
Lance’s presence was intimidating. He was a hulking figure with a sinister smile that never quite reached his cold, calculating eyes. His hands, large and scarred, rested on the table with a casual menace. His voice was a deep, gravelly rumble that carried an unspoken threat, making it clear that he was a man who thrived on fear and chaos.
He will do anything to get what he wants. She had heard from some people that Lance had a plan to kidnap a billionaire’s kid and demand a ransom.
Genevieve didn’t want to participate and felt lucky that she had escaped that circle of hell. But right now, she was walking back into hell to stop the humiliation her family received from you.
Lance put out his cigar and leaned back, his eyes glinting with malevolence. “You’re not here for a cup of tea, right?”
Genevieve took a seat beside him, trying to steady her trembling hands. “I need your advice. I’ll give you money.”
He let out a low chuckle, sending chills down her spine. “Now we’re speaking the same language.”
đŸ‘·đŸ‘·đŸ‘·đŸ‘·
Bucky went to visit the new manufacturing company. He felt a wave of fear when he stepped into the factory. As he was receiving the tour, he passed by some workers. One particular worker, with a larger build than the others, wore a big hat that covered his upper face. Bucky shivered. It was the same feeling he had when he was kidnapped. His trauma was triggered again.
He turned to take a good look at the man again, catching only a side view. But that smirk—he knew it. He had seen it a million times in his nightmares. That man was his kidnapper.
Bucky's heart started beating fast, and he couldn't keep standing. He struggled to breathe and then collapsed. Everyone around him panicked.
"Boss!!!" His assistant and secretary quickly rushed to help Bucky, but their touch only made his symptoms more severe.
"Call an ambulance!" the assistant yelled, and others frantically tried to assist.
Except for Lance. He looked on from afar and smirked. This was exactly what Genevieve had asked Lance to do: trigger Bucky's trauma and trap him in his own nightmare.
You received a call from Juliana informing you that Bucky had been taken to the hospital. When you arrived, you found out that Bucky had lost consciousness. You felt an overwhelming sense of guilt for not being able to help him.
Juliana looked at you with concern, her eyes filled with worry. You clenched your fists, your heart aching for Bucky. "I should have been there for him."
Juliana put a comforting hand on your shoulder. "There's no way you could have known. All we can do now is be here for him when he wakes up."
You nodded, determined. "I will. I won't let him face this alone."
💍💍💍💍
While Genevieve felt great that her plan was working, she didn’t know that Jonathan had another idea: to arrange an engagement between Victoria and another successful family.
Victoria pointed at the photo of a man she knew from her social circle. "Him?" It was Ryan Henken, a rich daddy's boy.
Jonathan nodded. "You both already know each other. It will be easy to fast-track the engagement."
Victoria's face twisted in disbelief. "He’s not the right person to marry. His mind is messed up." It was true; she hung out with Ryan and others, but he was the type of man suited for parties, not family life. She knew how Ryan treated his former girlfriends. The man was crazy.
Even after listening to his daughter, he remained firm. "His parents have already agreed to this."
"You didn't even discuss this with me! Are you going to let me have a miserable marriage?" Victoria's voice was filled with desperation.
"You still live under my roof. My rule," Jonathan said coldly, leaving the room. His decision was final, and no one could change it.
Victoria clenched her fists in frustration. Her peaceful life had started crumbling after you ruined her engagement with Bucky. This was all because of you.
Upset, Victoria drove around the city aimlessly. She eventually stopped at a park and began walking, trying to clear her mind.
“Pretty lady, you dropped your keys,” she heard an elderly voice say.
Turning around, she widened her eyes. She knew this older woman—it was your grandmother, Cassandra.
Victoria clenched her fists as she approached. "Thank you," she said, leaning down to pick up the keys. She leaned closer and whispered to Cassandra, "The woman who stays with you is not Ophelia, but your granddaughter. Your daughter is dead, killed by her husband. And the granddaughter who stays with you shares the same blood as the man who killed Ophelia."
Cassandra's breath shortened, and she pulled at her hair in distress. "Ophelia
 No
 My baby!"
“Hey! What did you do to her?” Cassandra's caretaker pushed Victoria away from the elderly woman.
Seeing Cassandra devastated made Victoria feel a twisted sense of fulfillment. "I'm just telling the truth," she said, then left, acting as if she had nothing to do with Cassandra's agony.
Cassandra's mind was in turmoil, unable to accept that her daughter was dead.
❀‍đŸ©č❀‍đŸ©č❀‍đŸ©č❀‍đŸ©č❀‍đŸ©č
You rushed home immediately when you heard your grandma had fainted from a panic attack. What was happening? First Bucky, now your grandma?
As you entered her room, the first thing Cassandra said when she saw you made your heart ache. Her weak hands trembled as she tried to reach for you. "Ophelia, you're here." You went into her arms, only for her to push you away, leaving you flabbergasted.
Her frantic eyes bore into you. "No. You died!" Cassandra's voice broke with grief. "It's my fault." She kept mumbling, "I'm sorry
I'm sorry." The caretaker had to calm her down with medication.
Slowly, you walked out of her bedroom, not realizing tears had started slipping from your eyes. You were the type of person who found it difficult to cry.
The first time you fully remembered crying was when your mother got sick. The second time was at Ophelia's funeral. The third time was when Genevieve tore down the glass house your mother had built. The fourth time was when Cassandra began forgetting you because of her dementia.
You leaned your back against the wall and slowly slid down, sitting on the floor as you cried.
Suddenly, you heard footsteps and someone calling your name. You lifted your head and saw Patrick standing there.
Patrick saw you crying for the first time, and his heart ached for you. He knelt down and hugged you tightly. "It's alright, you can get through this," he whispered.
As he held you, you felt a sense of security you had longed for. It would be a lie to say you never craved affection from your father. But with Patrick, you could sense his genuine desire to protect you.
Patrick's embrace was strong and warm, his hand gently rubbing your back. "I wish I could have been here for you sooner," he said softly, his voice tinged with regret. "But I'm here now, and I won't let you go through this alone."
You clung to him, your tears soaking his shirt. For the first time in a long while, you felt the kind of support and love you had missed so desperately. It was a bittersweet comfort, knowing that Patrick was there for you while feeling the weight of your losses even more keenly.
Patrick gently wiped away your tears, his eyes filled with determination. "We'll get through this together," he promised, his voice steady and reassuring. "I won't let anything else happen to you or your grandma."
đŸ„ŠđŸ„ŠđŸ„ŠđŸ„ŠđŸ„Š
At the charity event, where many guests and influential people were gathered in the ballroom, the spokesperson said, “We’re grateful for the generous donation from our biggest benefactor, Jonathan Sinclair,” gesturing for Jonathan to stand up so the guests could see him and give him an ovation.
Jonathan stood up and smiled, but suddenly, Patrick appeared and punched him hard. Jonathan fell to the ground, and the crowd gasped in shock, some screaming.
This was Patrick’s purpose. He wanted to ruin Jonathan's good name since he had cultivated an image of a quiet yet charitable man, along with Genevieve and Victoria.
Patrick, now on top of Jonathan, continued to punch him. "This man left his wife dying for his mistress," he shouted, loud enough for everyone to hear. "After his wife was buried, he brought in his mistress and daughter. A daughter he had while still married."
Patrick paused, his fist hovering in the air, his eyes red and glassy with anger and tears. "I shouldn't have left Ophelia with you. You have a good daughter and a kind mother-in-law. You don’t deserve them!"
He landed another punch so hard at Jonathan's face that someone swore they saw a tooth fly out.
“Stop! You’re going to kill him!” Genevieve screamed, running toward them as if she had arrived late.
The security finally intervened, restraining Patrick, who spat, “I should’ve done that a long time ago.”
Genevieve carefully touched Jonathan’s bloody face and glared at Patrick. “You won’t get away with this.”
Patrick smirked. “I’ll be waiting.” He walked away, satisfied after doing something he felt should have been done long ago.
Jonathan lay on the ground, coughing up blood. If he could open his eyes, he would see the judgment in everyone’s eyes as they realized he wasn’t so great after all.

Lucien Vanserra: The True Victim of A Court of Thorns and Roses
Let’s get one thing straight: while everyone’s focused on the traumas of Feyre, Nesta, and Rhysand, Lucien Vanserra is quietly enduring some of the most heartbreaking and soul-crushing treatment in the entire A Court of Thorns and Roses series. This man is the definition of “forgotten hero,” a character shoved into the background while everyone else’s emotional baggage takes center stage. But when you really break down his journey, it becomes clear: Lucien is the true victim of the story. Abandoned, betrayed, rejected, and shunned—he’s lost more than anyone gives him credit for. And let’s not even get started on his non-existent support system.
This essay is for Lucien, the character who deserved more.
Tamlin: A Complicated Friendship
Okay, let’s ease up on Tamlin for a second. He’s not the villain in Lucien’s story, but it’s impossible to overlook the ways in which he’s failed Lucien as a friend. Sure, Tamlin saved Lucien’s life, and in the early books, their camaraderie seems genuine. Lucien is loyal to Tamlin, even to the point of defending his choices when everything in the Spring Court is falling apart. But here’s the thing—Tamlin is a terrible friend to Lucien in the long run. When Tamlin goes off the rails, obsessing over Feyre and becoming a controlling mess, Lucien gets stuck cleaning up after him.
Lucien is the one trying to hold the Spring Court together while Tamlin spirals, and what does he get for his trouble? Tamlin’s neglect and emotional distance. He stands by Tamlin because of loyalty and friendship, but let’s not pretend that Tamlin did the same for him. When Lucien finally helps Feyre escape Tamlin’s suffocating control, it’s less of a betrayal and more of Lucien doing the right thing. But Tamlin? He sees it as the ultimate backstab, and that’s where their relationship falls apart. Lucien, once again, is left out in the cold, torn between his sense of duty and doing what’s right. He deserves better, but Tamlin’s emotional instability makes sure that Lucien never really gets to be his own person.
The Autumn Court: The True Hellscape
If you think Lucien’s life in the Spring Court was bad, wait until you hear about his childhood. Born into the Vanserra family of the Autumn Court, Lucien was the outcast of a vicious, backstabbing dynasty. Beron, his father, is a tyrant who not only sees Lucien as an expendable pawn but actively wants him dead. His brothers? Equally charming. It’s clear from the start that Lucien never had a chance to thrive in the Autumn Court, a place where power is everything, and kindness is seen as weakness.
And let’s not forget the whole Jesminda tragedy. Lucien dared to fall in love with a lesser fae, a love that cost Jesminda her life when Lucien’s family decided that this romance didn’t fit their elitist ideals. Jesminda’s murder was a turning point for Lucien—he fled his home, knowing that if he stayed, his family would finish the job. He’s a fugitive in his own court, forever on the run from the very people who are supposed to protect him. The Autumn Court isn’t just abusive—it’s a prison. Lucien had to escape, and in doing so, he severed any ties he had to a place that was supposed to be his birthright. Now he’s left without a home, a family, or a sense of belonging.
Elain Archeron: The Ultimate Rejection
And now, onto Lucien’s “reward” for all his suffering—Elain Archeron. Because apparently, the universe decided that after all the abuse, loss, and betrayal, what Lucien really needed was to be rejected by his mate. Let’s be clear: the mating bond is supposed to be this magical, unbreakable connection, right? Wrong. In Lucien’s case, it’s a constant source of pain and rejection.
Elain doesn’t just ignore the bond—she actively refuses to even acknowledge Lucien’s existence. She treats him like an awkward acquaintance, if that. Lucien, being the respectful guy he is, gives her space and time, but let’s face it: Elain’s rejection isn’t just about needing time to adjust to being fae. She’s chosen to flat-out pretend like Lucien isn’t her mate, and that stings. For a man who’s lost everything—his home, his family, his friends—this bond should have been a light at the end of the tunnel. Instead, it’s another source of heartbreak.
Lucien doesn’t even have a chance to prove himself to Elain. She’s decided from the start that their bond doesn’t matter, that Lucien doesn’t matter. And while everyone is wrapped up in the Nesta-Cassian drama, Lucien’s quietly standing on the sidelines, feeling the weight of his mate’s rejection. It’s brutal, and the narrative never gives him the closure he so desperately needs.
The Night Court: The Perpetual Outsider
Lucien finally gets out of the toxic mess that is the Spring Court, but what does he find in Velaris? A new home? New friends? Ha! Not even close. Rhysand and his inner circle barely tolerate Lucien. Rhysand is too wrapped up in his own superiority complex to give Lucien a real chance. Let’s not forget that Rhysand, the Great High Lord, practically sneers at Lucien for his past alliances and treats him like an outsider.
Sure, Feyre brings Lucien to Velaris, but the rest of the inner circle doesn’t exactly roll out the welcome mat. Lucien is treated with suspicion, kept at arm’s length, and never fully integrated into their group. He’s just
there. Rhysand’s so busy being the “hero” that he doesn’t see Lucien for what he really is—a loyal ally who’s willing to sacrifice everything to protect the people he cares about.
And don’t even get me started on Amren. The self-proclaimed “second-in-command” spends most of her time glaring at Lucien, like he’s some kind of ticking time bomb. It’s almost laughable how little effort anyone makes to actually welcome him. Lucien’s loyalty to Feyre is the only reason he’s tolerated in Velaris, and even then, it’s clear that he doesn’t belong. He’s an outsider, floating through the courts, never truly accepted anywhere.
No Home, No Family, No Love
So where does that leave Lucien? He has no home—his family tried to kill him, his best friend fell apart, and the court that’s supposed to be his sanctuary treats him like a stray dog. He has no family—his father is a tyrant, his brothers are cutthroats, and his mate wants nothing to do with him. And he has no love—not from Elain, not from his friends, and certainly not from the universe that keeps throwing him into impossible situations.
Lucien’s story is one of relentless isolation, rejection, and pain. He’s been cast out of every place he’s ever called home, left with no real allies and no future. And yet, the narrative doesn’t even bother to give him the closure or redemption he deserves. While everyone else is busy finding their happily-ever-afters, Lucien is left wandering, a victim of fate, circumstance, and neglect.
Conclusion
Lucien Vanserra is the forgotten victim of A Court of Thorns and Roses. While Feyre, Rhysand, and the rest of the inner circle grapple with their various traumas, Lucien quietly endures some of the most heartbreaking experiences of the entire series. His loyalty is betrayed, his love rejected, and his place in the world shattered. He has no home, no family, no friends, and no love—just a never-ending cycle of loss and rejection.
If anyone deserves sympathy, it’s Lucien. The series may focus on the dramatic arcs of its other characters, but Lucien’s story is the true tragedy. He’s the character who’s been failed by everyone around him, and the one who truly deserves a happy ending—but likely won’t ever get one.

ROLLO FLAMME CHARACTER ANALYSIS.
It's a shame that not many people realize how well written of a character Rollo Flamme is. In today's episode (lol) we'll take a look at Rollo's character in another perspective.
Rollo Flamme's character is tied to Sinfulness and he considers himself a sinner. Why is that?
Let's break this down.
Rollo Flamme considers himself a killer—a murderer—not in the literal sense, but because he believes he bears the guilt of not preventing his little brother’s death before it was too late.
As a child, Rollo noticed the recklessness in his brother's actions but failed to intervene, unable to grasp the danger looming ahead. It wasn’t just him, though. Everyone around them—parents, elders, mages, teachers—saw the same recklessness but did nothing to guide his brother or stop the tragedy from unfolding.
When the tragedy struck, Rollo froze in place, watching helplessly as his own brother was consumed by flames. He couldn’t move, couldn’t speak, couldn’t do a thing. The horrific scene etched itself into his mind, an endless loop replaying over and over. And guess what? The mages—those with the power to save his brother—stood by and did nothing.
From that day forward, Rollo Flamme branded himself a sinner. But it didn’t stop there. In his eyes, everyone who stood idly by became killers too—a collective guilt they all shared for his brother’s death.
What made it worse was the cruel irony of his own magic. Over the years, the very thing that killed his brother, fire, became the power he manifested. Every day, he feels as though the ashes of his brother cling to him, an unseen residue woven into his existence.
To Rollo, this vile force coursing through his veins is a curse—a repulsive reminder of his failure. In his mind, he is the murderer. He killed his own brother. And no matter how much time passes, he cannot escape the truth: it’s all his fault.
To atone for the immense sin he carries, Rollo decides that punishment is the only path—for himself and everyone else. In his mind, they all share the guilt for his brother’s death, and they must all suffer to make amends.
But the punishments he doles out only add to the weight on his soul. Instead of cleansing his guilt, they pile sin upon sin, a heavy, unrelenting burden he cannot escape. By the time he realizes the truth, it’s already too late.
He has become the very thing he despised—a greater sinner than anyone around him. And once again, he has failed. He has messed up beyond repair.
And so, Rollo gave up. Weighed down by his failures and sins, he withdrew from the world, isolating himself from the people he once sought to punish.
This was evident during the final moments of the Glomas event. He took it upon himself to clean up his own mess, refusing help from anyone. When the chaos had subsided and the ballroom came alive with music and celebration, Rollo was nowhere to be seen. While others danced and reveled, he slipped into the shadows, vanishing from their lives.
The only path to atoning for his sins is to forgive himself—to accept what he has done and the role he played. But Rollo knows he can never do that.
This is clear in how he silently bears his guilt, refusing to confess the truth to those who see him as a "hero." They celebrate his deeds, unaware that the supposed hero was the villain all along—the one who caused the disaster.
In his mind, if he cannot forgive himself, how could anyone else? And so, he chooses silence, carrying the weight of his sins alone, hidden beneath the mask of the hero they believe him to be.
But that is who Rollo Flamme is—a man consumed by sin, incapable of atonement, shackled by the deep-seated hatred he holds for himself.
Alas, it’s no longer the fault of the people.
It’s him. He’s the problem now.
And so, he resolves to shoulder this immense burden alone, carrying it with him for the rest of his life—forever.

Reverse 1999 and the Nature of Tragedy: Analysis on how the tragic structure is used and potentially why (spoilers for Chapters 2,3 and 6 mainly)
Reverse 1999 loves tragic characters, we don't go any patch without suffering. Here Im going to explore how the tragic structure in literature is presented in the game through at least three main story chapters.
Tender is the Night (although I have covered aspects already in previous Chapter Two analysis)
Nouvelles et Textes pour Rien
E Lucevan le Stelle
What is Tragedy?
Tragedy is often described as a play dealing with tragic events and having an unhappy ending, especially one concerning the downfall of the main character (thank you Oxford Languages)
Yes this is common knowledge but the core to a tragic narrative is the inescapability on the tragic ending - the way I usually describe tragdies is like a cake no matter how you slice it, it is either too sweet or stale and never a perfect bite.
Tragedy in Tender is the Night
This will be short as I have analysis on the chapter in previous posts so here will be specific bits. Schneider here can be considered the tragic character as she ultimately gets taken by the storm, while I don't consider her to have a traditional tragic flaw the status as a human pretending to be a arcanist does doom her character. She is denied by the Foundation/ the Chicago Branch so attempts to find safety in the Manus by lying that she was adopted into the Greco family, however likely Manus had captured Mariam and after being tortured by them reveals Schneider's identity.
Throughout Chapter Two there is a moments of false hope that she might be saved, somehow surviving multiple bullets (I mean really she was shot so many times arcane healing must do wonders) . It is only the very end to we realise Schneider was never going to survive (gameplay does trick us as well since we can play as her in the boss fight of Ch.1 and for some reason still in the final tutorial stage which I only found out at lvl 40 when I wanted clear drops lol).
Tragedy in Chapter Three
A large part in tragedy is the helplessness the audience feels at being aware of all events yet unable to prevent events from happening. We get the perspective of Constantine setting up the conditions for the Breakaway attempt to occur on the day of the Storm, even making us watch chess board style how Vertin and her friends are lured into a trap. Tragic characters do not need to experience a literal death, as Vertin could be considered the tragic heroine here, her hubris being the hope and desire for the outside world that led her to attempt to leave SPDM. Ofc she doesn't die but her actions result in the reversal of her friends and cementing her role as the Timekeeper.
The point of no return could be seen in the children choosing to escape on an earlier date, unable to see the scheming and manipulation of Constantine to create loopholes the children view as opportunities to escape rather than a trap.
Tragedy in Chapter Six
This is a big one as operas and plays tend to be tragedies themselves. Isokania is a tragic relationship as both Isolde and Kakania regardless if they lived each other were doomed from the start: being an unethical doctor and patient relationship, Kakania not being a licensed doctor therefore completely misjudging her patient's wellbeing, Isolde's own mental instability, dangers of her arcane powers, the history of her family ... the list goes on. Even if they ended up together they would not truly be happy.
Isolde is a tragic character, other than being a reference to Tosca, she is doomed by the nature of the arcane power and the nature of her family. A family own for misfortune as a result of their arcane skills (her sister dying at age 3 to a seance) + the social pressures of being an upper class woman in the 1910s.
Book six having a reference to 'A Streetcar named Desire?'
So we already know Book Six reference multiple tragic operas such as Tosca but I want to suggest the final chapter in this patch potential makes reference to a 1940s tragic play called "A Streetcar Named Desire".
(This is a stretch since Tennesse Williams published the play in the 1940s not the 1910s)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So. In this scene Kakania attempts to interrogate Isolde on the nature of The Salvation, to confront the fact that she was the co-creator to the painting, the fire was caused by Theophil who hoped to end both his and his sister's suffering but was shot by Isolde instead.
It is notable that Isolde repeatedly asks for the lights in the room to be turned down, refusing to look at the truth in the painting. While we could just view this standalone I think we could make a guess or suggestion that this scene is meant to reference another tragedy.
(Maybe there is an older tragic play that employs a similar scene but Ive only studied this one, someone can tell me in comments)
A Streetcar Named Desire sees a fading Southern Belle Blanche Dubois move into New Orleans with her sister Stella and her husband Stanley effectively as a last resort, her past is filled with "leaky roofs" and instability with sleeping with men to survive, alongside the destruction of the Old South leads to her to seek refuge with her only surviving family.
She almost finds salvation here, finding love in an ordinary man named Mitch. However this is a tragedy. Late into the play Stanley, Stella's husband confronts Blanche on her lies about her past, putting a light to her deception in order to reinforce is own authority over the house. Eventually succeeding in sending Blanche to a mental hostpital (Im summarising a play, I may miss other details and this is long)
And what about Isolde? Like Blanche she is forced to confront the truth she had tried to repress in her memory, remember in a previous seesion with Kakania the detail that she shot Theophil with intent (again who allowed her a gun and who taught her? I guess she can channel the spirit of a sharpshooter?) is omitted, similar to how Blanche in the play distorts the truth with lie, the "what SHOULD be true" could be viewed as Isolde making the world her stage, everything as a performance that never ends.
The idea of having to confront the truth of events being forced into the light is similar to Blanche's reoccurring motif of bring adverse to strong light, revealing all her flaws. However the person forcing them to see the truth is different, where Kakania acts out of a determination to right her wrongs and find the Storm Immunity Ritual to save everyone, Stanley (similar to Mr Karl) acts out of self preservation and malice.
Here's the big one: why does Reverse 1999 employ so much tragedy?
Tragedies are usually employed as a message to the audience, a commentary on the state of the world about people/ individual facing the impossible force of society, its expections and its demand for conformity.
There can be many answers, we still have more chapters to explore the narratives of this game but so far it seems Reverse 1999 wants to tell a story about overcoming adversity, to not be defined by others or your past, to "beat onboard boats against the current" (see what I did there?) even if the odds are surmountable. It is a struggle for both the truth and the future even if the odds are against you.
(This is giant speculation, nothing concrete but yeah feed the brainrot)
(We could analyse each 'focus character' of each patch because I think they generally follow this theme but that's alot, the game is still updating and i have uni soon so)

Note
youre like the only account i look at on here for red queen content (specifically maven) so please go full psychological analysis on maven please. i love your posts they itch my brain perfectly
omygosh anon đŸ€ tyyyy tyyyy
theres so much to say about maven and its kinda crazy considering he doesn’t get that much actual page time. so keep in mind that many people could have different interpretations of his character, since he is quite elusive. and i may or may notttt be biassed idk.
the first thing i believe: he's a character that, for all his supposed motivations, had no ambition or dream of his own. he was a complete vessel of his mother’s spite, so he makes for a pretty interesting paradox. mare was haunted by a ‘false’ maven that didn't exist (debatable). cal was haunted by an ‘erased’ maven that used to exist. what is maven haunted by? everything and everyone? he’s a ghost himself, he’s the one who usually did the haunting, but even when you get his POV in the books, there’s a tragedy in the negative space you find. there are clear holes in his psyche that he also subconsciously attempts to fill (his memories always fight to bubble to the surface, but they invoke feelings he can’t feel anymore) and never can. despite how pissed off he is at everyone and everything, he so very clearly yearns for love and approval, to the point where he is absolutely delusional about it. there he was, shocked that mare would reject him after he imprisoned and betrayed her and the scarlet guard. here’s him outraged that anabel lerolan would side with cal after he plotted her son’s murder.
elara basically sculpted a monster, and i don’t think that can be debated since its pretty clearly stated in text. even maven knew what she took from him and the extent of the abuse— but he didn't care because she gave him the love he craved. she couldn’t fill it all, if maven’s obsession with mare was anything to go by. i do think elara genuinely loved and adored him, but i don’t know if i would use the word ‘enabler’ for her because it seems too soft a word. maven is elara. elara dies and maven can’t survive on his own for long without her. he was her iron fist in a way, but neither had much interest in norta as a country like most scheming for the throne usually do– which i find so interesting. it wasn’t political, only personal.
now then there lies the debate of choice— some maven fans are completely comfortable heaping all of the blame onto elara and calling it a day. but i think even elara was failed in a similar way maven was. red queen is cool because it shows how evil is encouraged and nurtured in oppressive societies, how certain individuals even in privileged positions will be abused and neglected, how vices are taught to be hidden rather than treated and how violence is perpetuated as the surest, most permanent decree. every character is affected by this system in some way, and i could talk about it for years but i’ll save you the time. my point is that this would apply to maven, but that doesn’t make him void of choice. it’s sort of predictable that he would make the terrible choices he did in the series considering he never had the chance to escape what predestined narrative was already planned for him, but no one was physically forcing him to burn his initial into mare. no one was physically forcing him to try slaughter a whole race of people. no one physically forced him to blow up naercey, or taunt cal after forcing him to murder his dad, or psychologically torture mare when he kept her as prisoner. yes, there’s nuance but maven is also much too comfortable with being a terrible person, because thats what ultimately earns him love, respect and approval.
i don’t think maven could’ve been saved, not because 'the damage was too bad,' but because he had no desire to be saved, and no one but cal had wanted to put in the effort to save him. i always find it interesting how cal secretly resented mare for killing maven, even though it was such a longtime coming, and he would never voice it because considering all maven had done to her, she had more than the right. but i don’t want to yap so much about maven’s relationship with cal because i’ll be here forever. nor do i want to talk too much about his relationship with mare. i'll only say that when i was talking about his death scene i did mention how much of an impact both of them had on each other, how maven was so scary to mare because he was a viable twisted path that represented the worst of her. i think mare could’ve been (my biassed interpretation) a path for him too, but he was so far gone by the second book and especially after elara’s death that he never considered it (would’ve been too late for him then anyway). i have some thoughts on the chances of maven rehabilitating if he had the tools and will to. some thoughts. they won’t go here though.
lastly i just want to link this post which had super interesting additions by @lucy-the-cat that delves into maven from a psychological perspective. its sooooo well written and i still think about it to this day.
last thing i wanna do is glaze a bit so im just gonna 😭 its refreshing to see this sort of villain be portrayed as an mmc who isn’t attractively suave and super misunderstood and depressed and supremely intelligent for what he does– maven is intelligent and sad, but he's presented as a floundering, insecure, delusional brat that the fmc understands entirely. something so refreshing in how he can only either be hated, and at best, pitied.

Sea Fairy Cookie is the Antagonist
DISCLAIMER: Spoilers for A Mermaid’s Tale and Towards the Light
Before you come at me, I need y'all to realize one thing about the plot of A Mermaid's Tale.
SEA 👏FAIRY 👏COOKIE 👏LET 👏THIS 👏HAPPEN.
We know for a FACT Sea Fairy knew of White Pearl's existence, as well as her sisters and the other denizens of Tearcrown, yet for reasons unknown, she decides to give W.P. a basically useless power that is explained so cryptically and is never actually seen coming into fruition.
"You will shine brightest when there is no light" girl when there was "no light" White Pearl Cookie went darkside, so was she lying or just wrong or ????
Beyond that, she was fully aware of the chaos ensuing between the Gem Mermaids and the Land Cookies. Yet in the literal MIDST of it all, she decides "yah I'm gonna make a tower and go to the moon bcus she's totally proven to be beneficial to my duties and is NOT just a pretty sight to see"
She basically leaves the Gem Mermaids to die. That is EXACTLY what she did, and it proves to be a failed endeavor nonetheless. Because she literally FREEZES in the process. HOW she got unfrozen escapes me but I'm sure it's as ridiculous as her motives to abandon her domain and people. And, she ignored White Pearl Cookie in her most dire hour, thus losing her faith and being close to the last thing that tips her over.
Sea Fairy Cookie also directly tells Sherbet Cookie that she's no longer an Elemental Guardian- i'm sorry, you gave up your DUTIES for a chick way up in the sky that might not even reciprocate your feelings??
I admit, Moonlight and Sea Fairy have had their interactions, albeit vaguely described or incredibly reliant on visuals to gain traction from fans. But I can't see what people find "romantic" about it. Sure, it's charming, magical, but for the longest time, I could never see Moonlight Cookie's behavior with her as romantic, but rather her just being amused at Sea Fairy's feelings and playing along because she was too nice to deny her.
If that’s all true, what does that mean?
She abandoned her kingdom for a Cookie who didn't even like her back!!
And if that IS the case, this just puts her in an even worse position as a character! Her story had a great vision, but was executed poorly, making her come across as a terrible Guardian and a desperate romantic who put herself before her people for a being who possibly never liked her back!
And if we put her side by side next to the other Guardians, it becomes even more clear how flawed she is.
Millennial Tree Cookie, Wind Archer Cookie, Frost Queen Cookie and Sherbet Cookie are all extremely devoted to their jobs, and take great concern in the cycle of magic in the Cookie World. Moonlight Cookie, despite the hopelessness of her situation, never gave up her duties of protecting the City of Wizards (I think SHE is more warranted to abandon her duties than Sea Fairy ever was). And Fire Spirit Cookie
we don’t see much of him, but what little we see, we at least know he’s aware, even if he chooses not to pay any mind to it.
Now that I say it, I believe the other Guardians, especially Moonlight Cookie, had more reasons to abandon their posts than she did. Moonlight Cookie was protecting a forever deserted city, a never ending, hopeless, fruitless endeavor, that she never gave up on because she was loyal and resilient.
But Sea Fairy? Sea Fairy gave up because she wanted to stare at the moon, and that was it. What’s more is that Sea Fairy Cookie herself compares White Pearl Cookie to Moonlight Cookie, dubbing her the Little Moon, a title she only takes in stride once Lord Oyster Cookie uses it as an affectionate term with her.
And even beside W.P., Sea Fairy STILL looks like a terrible person. White Pearl, albeit a little bit delicate for a character in my opinion, did objectively endure a lot more pressure and tragedy before she finally broke and became Black Pearl Cookie.
I understand Sea Fairy is meant to be something of a hopeless romantic, but with everything that was on the line in exchange for a lack of a response from her interest
it’s just not a good look on her, and really don’t understand why some people think it’s romantic at all.
I really truly hope we get to see Sea Fairy and Moonlight interact with each other, and that Moonlight gives her a stern talking to, explaining that abandoning her duties was the wrong decision, and encourages her to go back to her post. Given that it’s Moonlight, Sea Fairy would do as she says and become the Almighty Sea once more, make amends with White Pearl Cookie, and restore Tearcrown’s glory and reunite the Gem Mermaids once more.
but that’s MY wishful thinking.
So until any of this happens, or at least something along the lines of it, Sea Fairy Cookie will STILL be responsible for White Pearl Cookie’s transition into darkness, will STILL be a terrible example of a Guardian, and will STILL be a selfish person in general who put herself and her possibly unreciprocated emotions first before her domain and her people.
Thus, Sea Fairy Cookie is the antagonist.

Yandere Seth, Yandere Anubis, Yandere Horus x reader.
Notice: In my previous requests I asked for a single Yandere Seth or Yandere Anubis with a reader who is the eldest daughter of Osiris. But I would like to see how he deals with three at the same time (I don't know if you do this separately or from different perspectives, I hope you do it as I explain, please). A story idea, fem reader has known Anubis since he was born and they grew up as cousins, Lectora being the older of the two. Since he was a child, Anubis has loved her. Then it happened that Seth kills Osiris. The fem reader has to escape with her mother. There he meets his second little brother, Horus. fem reader takes great care of him and tries to ensure that Horus has a normal childhood. Later, when she grows up, fem reader becomes the goddess of hope and dawn (I find it curious). Seth hates Lectora, but after she followed him to help him in his punishment, they fall in love with Seth and the fem reader.
(I don't know if it seems like a lot to you, I'll see if it takes you too long to do it. Another thing I must tell you to make it clear, in Anubis he is both the demigod version and his version in favor of God and Horus loves both Seth and the reader)
And before I leave, the reader only fell in love with Seth (sorry, he's my favorite of the three).
thank you
Seth is my favorite as well too so I understand lol, I’ll also do them at the same time as I think it’ll work best for your request so I hope you don’t mind that 😁😅.
Warning: noob author, female reader, yandere romantic characters.
Characters: Seth, Anubis, Horus.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You, daughter of Isis and Osiris, eldest of child to the two and future elder sister to Horus. In the past you and Anubis were cousins; though you knew what had happened between Nephthys and your father so you know Anubis is actually your little brother but kept quiet as you didn’t want to know the tragedy that would happen if you told, and was childhood friends but soon you had to leave for safety
When your uncle had killed your father you had to say goodbye to Anubis and hide with your mother who was also pregnant from the temporary resurrection of your father after he was killed and had his limbs fall into the Nile.
Anubis had always loved you more than a relative, more romantically but couldn’t confess his love as you had left with your mother for safety from his father which festered some hatred towards his father for the chaos that happened when Seth killed Osiris.
Your brother was soon born and you did all that you could while hiding to be a good example and made sure you kept him safe from potential harm whether it be by evil humans or predator animals in order for him to have a semi normal childhood along with teaching him how to defend himself from any threat.
You had became the goddess of hope and dawn but instead of losing your memories like you and your mother had thought you were able to keep them, you had wrote them down just in case but guess that was pointless with how you got to keep the memories.
You had fallen in love with Seth even though you shouldn’t with what he did to your father but you knew that your father pushed him to that breaking point and unlike your mother who tries to keep Osiris’s honor you want your father to never get what he wants as he deserves nothing but karma, that is what you hoped (see what I did there? lol) for and you will try everything you can to make that happen.
After the trails against your uncle and your brother you followed Seth when he was given his punishment to travel as a demigod (I’m guessing that’s what happened as I’m not there yet, correct me if I’m wrong on that please 😁), you knew Seth hated you but you wanted him safe and not in danger as he can’t fully protect himself like he could when he was a god.
Seth soon saw how you were nothing like your father and saw how you hated your father he at first didn’t know why you hated Osiris but you told him that you hated what he had secretly done to him and others that had to go through hell for the experiments he had them go through.
Horus sent a familiar to travel with you two and keep an eye on you both as he wanted you two safe; he had been in love with you both since he was young so he hopes that he can be able to have the both of you fall for him, what he doesn’t know is that you had only see him as your younger brother and loved Seth.
Anubis also had been in loved with you but would like to become a god so that he can confess to you but he couldn’t as he doesn’t remember anything from when he was a demigod, that was until he met you again and his feeling reignited powerful than before, but you didn’t feel any romantic feelings for him and loved Seth so you didn’t accept his feelings before leaving with Seth after the run in with Anubis.
(A/n: hope y’all liked it!! Hope i didn’t misunderstand anything for your request to😅, anyway that’s all i have to say I think so hope y’all have a wonderful day/evening/night!!)
