Shen Yuan tries to opt out and live a simple life on what locals tell him is a monster-infested mountain no one in their right mind would bother with. Sounds like a great hiding spot! (TL;DR: Stardew Scum Villain Valley Mountain.)

This was such a good homemaking vibe fic. I love that Shen Yuan found out where he was and said NOPE.

Good stardew energy, lots of romance, the OC's are incredible too!

His strange new set of goat-like legs seemed to help with that. In which Shen Yuan transmigrates as an incubus, and everyone realizes it but him.

Suffice to say Shen Yuan was not having a great time and the fact that the cultivator in question was the most beautiful human being he's ever laid his eyes on wasn't helping either!

After several misunderstandings with the local human beings, he finally manages to clearly communicate his desires and one city provides him with a (rather scrawny and underfed) boy who most definitely agreed to the terms of employment that Shen Yuan tried to put forward! Luo Binghe has been shoved into the clutches of a dragon without being told anything and is surely about to be eaten at any moment.

Okay this is not quite cultivatory but it is ancient times with magic so I will count it

Shen yuan transmigrates into an ancient dragon with modern ideals and morals

This fic shapes up to be so damn adorable, truly a found family and made home

Part two is in progress (last updated January) but it hints at a bingliushen relationship arc

I can't remember if Shen Yuan transmigrated or if he was just born into the world of PIDW. Whichever, he is still himself and a big nerd about monsters

I have such a soft spot for scumcum. In this one it's less about making a physical home and more about growing into themselves, but the vibe is still similar.

This is most certainly a home building fic; a little bit physically into part two, but mostly finding a home in the ones you love as you wander type vibes.

It starts as shen yuan/shen jiu and in part two moves into a shen yuan/shen jiu/yue qi direction but all of it is lovely.

SY is just relieved he doesn’t have to pretend to be a girl anymore.

This was so so good!

I can't remember if Shen yuan transmigrated or if he was born there but either way he escapes a rough situation and has to learn about society like an alien touching down and I adore it.

Reading DTBPF: Chapter 33

For those who don't know, I am reading The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish for the first time and sharing my thoughts!

If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.

I was debating on the amount of caffeine I wanted to consume this morning. My body wants a shot of espresso or two, my brain said, decaf tea. So here I am with my apple and apricot tea- decaf.

This was such a neat adventure fic post canon, married wangxian.

I don't know what else to say unless I spoil it but it had such a mystical vibe

Reading DTBPF: Chapter 32

For those who don't know, I am reading The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish for the first time and sharing my thoughts!

If you have not read it, there will be spoilers! Consider this a warning.

Every once in a while I try a new coffee brand.

I always loved coffee, but a few years back when I got covid one of the symptoms was coffee smelled and tasted like literal trash. Even now sometimes I just get the ick when I try to drink it, but I keep trying to find one that isn't gross.

Latte's are good for the most part- I got lucky today, yay!

Brains are so weird.

Let's get into chapter 32!

Li Yu: The coast is clear! p341

Why do so many people hate Ye Qinghuan? Even the emperor can't handle his personality for very long periods of time. p343

omg. Ye Qinghuan better not be convincing Prince Jing that his wonderful, beautiful, fish spirit is going to suck out his soul. p345

Prince Jing having the courtesy to think that it might be weird that he was playing with a grown man/fish is too real. I honestly would be horrified I did that- the bath alone would shoot my spirit out of my body. p347

Prince Jing: Ye Qinghuan is a lying liar. My sweet fish spirit would never. p347

Collectively we were wondering if the fish was going to be patchy/bald with the scales dropping during transformation. Well, answer: they are now falling off in fish form and he has little blank spots so- naked fish here we are. p348

The way I am so stoked for this plot

I cannot wait to read more! I am so deep into this LOL I am here for all of the fish and court nonsense.

What I Read This Week: 07/27/2025

I am a librarian, and unrelated to stereotypes about my profession, I do read a metric shit-ton in a week. Most of it is fanfiction but hey, I thought maybe it's time I share my reads?

This is what I read this week:

1. The Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Pet Fish (Chapter 23-29)

Summary:

When Li Yu falls asleep reading a webnovel about a ruthless, mute tyrant falling in love with a dainty male concubine, he doesn’t expect to wake up inside the world of the novel—especially not as a fish!

Li Yu soon finds himself adopted as Prince Jing’s pet carp, tasked by a less-than-helpful Magic System with preventing the prince from becoming a cruel tyrant. If he can accomplish this mission, Li Yu will regain his human form. Yet how can he succeed from inside a fish bowl?!

I am about 70% though book 1! Poor Li Yu!

Summary: When Wei Wuxian stumbles across a shady pet store in the back alley of his new town he ends up leaving with a companion for life, and more than he bargained for.

This was a reread for me and it was still just as sweet as the first time I read it

Wei Wuxian, though, didn't need to be told, and he accepted that he'd lost whatever he might have once had with Lan WangJi. Several nights later, in a moment of drunken weakness under the melancholic light of a full moon, he tells Lan WangJi the Truth. He'd never needed Lan WangJi to spell out his fate for him - he'd known since he walked out of the Burial Mounds alive.

But one small bit of honesty can go a long way, and Talking is far better than Silence.

I loved the way the love these two have for each other evolved into something so incredible

God I want to rant about how good this was but I really don't want to spoil anything!

It is a little angsty- but the happy ending is so so good.

5 Hanguang-Jun and His Beloved Pet Rabbit by 96qutie (Read chapter 40 this week)

Summary: A gentle touch stroked his back, and Wei Ying stiffened in surprise. He looked up to find pale-gold eyes staring down at him intensely.

He gulped.

“Are you hurt?” The young cultivator asked in a soft voice, as if he expected an answer— even though he was already prodding Wei Ying’s ears and legs to see for himself. When he didn’t find evidence of injury he seemed to relax. “Are you frightened?”

If Wei Ying were human, he would have blushed and tried to crack a joke to hide it. As a rabbit, he could only kick his feet like a shy toddler.

“Wangji? I heard a commotion. Is everything alright?”

With the swiftness of a child being caught up past their bedtime, Wei Ying was shoved inside a billowing sleeve.

“Mn.”

This is a ‘The Disabled Tyrant’s Beloved Pet Fish’ AU for Wangxian. That series captured my heart, so then this happened. For those who don’t know that story; you don’t have to read it to read this. I don’t follow the plot at all, and I even changed the premise a bit. It’s only loosely inspired by it.

Also just to be clear: Wei Ying is not a rabbit 100% of the time.

This did indeed make me ugly cry, but it was a good good ending

Open/hopeful/neutral ending with Jiang Cheng if that is something important to you (I liked it in this fic)

I did reup some wangxian! So I have a bunch to sift through. I have been obsessed with these two lately. Though I am getting the itch for shen yuan centered fics as well. I will have to browse some svsss tags too.

Turns out I am still feeling tender about Xie Lian's entire story. I want to desperately read TGCF fics but my heart is not there yet. I have been introducing them slowly via crossover.
