if they yell at you just stab them. what do they know anyway
There should be a separate like button for tags. See, someone reblogs my post with a hilarious comment in tags and what? Am I supposed to do nothing to tell that person how brilliant they are?
#if it helps in my experience that's relatively rare?#but you can choose to just do it with people you know or on your own posts#or not at all if you don't want i guess#a tag like button is unlikely to happen tho#and. part of me feels like that's for the best given how this site can be somethings lol#anyway if someone yells at you for sharing funny tags that's on them#if someone reblogs your post with something you're not comfortable with your first step should be to say ''hey. maybe don't''#unless it's like blatantly bigoted or something then you probably shouldn't start off with yelling#so if someone does that then there's a good chance they're being a jerk#''people are being annoying on my post'' you are on the people being annoying on other people's posts website#idk if this still happens but i used to see ops asking people discoursing in their notes to just like. move somewhere else#which is the correct and mature response imo

was looking for some quotes from lewis to brat-ify and stumbled upon this article/interview with serena williams from 2017, which happened to have some interesting tidbits. so, here's my thoughts on me just talking about the whole thing! disclaimer: i am a relatively new f1 fan and also supposed to be asleep right now, so perhaps take some of the things i say with a grain of salt, and feel free to correct me!
website font is atrocious, at least for this kind of format. gdocs is claiming that it's courier new, which is usually okay when it's just by itself, but just urgh. bad
serena calls lewis things like "the very best" multiple times, which imo is a bit of a stretch, at least for the time being (article was published in july 2017, and he definitely wasn't viewed as such at the time); i figure she probably just doesn't know a super big amount about the sport outside of lewis
honestly really surprised that some of lewis's...less than favorable exploits were mentioned (e.g. crashing his car and partying with models) and were then followed immediately by "for someone who wants to be the best at everything, you just have to start somewhere".
lewis and serena's banter and the article are screaming 2017 and not necessarily in a good way 💀😭 getting many a painful flashback rn
talking about how a lot of the effort they (drivers) put into being fit for the car isn't seen at all by fans is pretty interesting
didn't realize he mentioned the whole locking himself in his hotel room thing before now?? damn :( he does seem to know that it was pretty unhealthy btp, which is good! in general rn he's sorta talking about how he's like, matured and calmed down and stuff.
inspiration section: his brother (perseverance) and serena (don't dim your light or smth)
apparently he used to be insecure about his catholicism, which i thought was a bit odd at first until i remembered that the us has only had two catholic presidents (jfk and biden) and that boris johnson "came out" as catholic a couple years ago. anyways he only rlly started embracing it AFTER getting to f1, which is sorta interesting. (how many people on the 2007 grid were catholic? lemme google) (post google search: i got lazy, but the answer is that there weren't many. massa seeeems to be roman catholic, but idk how similar that is to catholic catholicism)
serena compliments lewis on his singing and asks when he's gonna release his album (real). his response is that a) he's a hyperperfectionist who takes forever to finish songs and b) he's worried that if he thinks too much about releasing it it'll take the fun out of it (fair).
[lewis] doesn't really wanna do his own clothing or vehicle lines or whatever b/c he likes collabing w/ people a lot
he was designing a motorcycle at the time apparently??? and he's done it before???? WHERE'RE THE MOTORCYCLES LEWIS???? WHERE ARE THEYYYYYYYYYY
rapid-fire question time!
HE HASN'T EATEN MEAT IN TWO YEARS ATP??? oh my god guys new lewis lore just dropped!!! (the question was chicken or fish and he said fish, so i'm guessing he doesn't count fish as meat, soooo i'm taking this to mean that he was pescatarian (diet where you eat no meat other than fish) for two years)
overall, the lewis in this interview feels like he's in a bit of a transition phase atm in terms of character development and stuff, which makes sense considering, well. *gestures*
quotes i liked/found interesting:
"And more than anything, I fear not being as great as I know I can be."
"My dad wanted me to have a better life than he had ever had. He wanted us to succeed so badly. And I never wanted to let him down."
"I manage myself. I chose this team myself. So there’s a huge satisfaction for me."
"I feel like people are expecting me to fail, therefore, I expect myself to win. Just like you—everyone knows how good you are, and they’re just waiting for you to fall."
"I’ve realized that winning isn’t everything. It’s very much about the journey ... So while winning is definitely the ultimate goal, the lessons learned when I don’t win only strengthen me."
"I hate losing. It doesn’t matter if it’s racing or playing Ping-Pong, I hate it. 'You’re either first or you’re last.'"

(I had this crazy moment when thinking about ONK today and wanted to tell someone)
If your speculation on the HKAI "I cannot love you" moment is correct, I wonder if the AQRB confrontation re Ruby's request to be seen (and loved) as Sarina to Aqua's Gorou will lead to a similar respond. Ie "I cannot love you the way you want me to, even in the scenario you just described."
Because at the end of the day, if I'm reading it correctly, Gorou was never serious in his "till you're 16" response to Sarina. They both knew that she wouldn't live past 12. Sarina/Ruby is delusional but only in a way a girl (sick and fated to die at 12 with the only person kind to her being her doctor) who didn't get to mature in her thinking could be. And imo that parallels to Hikaru, who's experience in "romance" was offering himself in exchange for "love". (Airi's defense for herself was that they were in love, which I suspect was something she told Hikaru, too.)
Tldr: Ruby in her right mind would not proposition her brother, just like 15YL Hikaru in his right would not think grooming is a form of romance. And it is the other person's responsibility to say "no, I can not offer you what (you think) you want".
Another response that's ultimately too late oops… I do still have a lot to say on this topic tho so I hope it's still interesting to read!
Message from future Claire after they finished writing this ask: tehepero… this one turned into a huge ramble so um. please forgive me. Also, spoilers for Usagi Drop made their way in here, if someone somehow doesn't know the big twist of that ending in 2024…
RE: Gorou and Sarina, this is for sure the intended read of their relationship to a degree . Spica downplays/sidesteps this aspect of their relationship a lot but even there it's said explicitly that Gorou was one hundred percent aware that Sarina's long term prognosis was basically non existent. It definitely makes him way more indulgent of and receptive to the "omg Sensei marry me stuff" but even then it's pretty clear that it is, again, just indulging her.
The manga by contrast is much more strongly characterized by this sense of shared but unspoken preemptive grief for the inevitable, where both of them understand but don't really want to talk about it out loud. It added an interesting wrinkle to their relationship that I liked a lot and was disappointed to see Spica iron out but ironing out the interesting parts is kind of what Spica does in general and isn't specific to Gorou and Sarina lol
BUT UH my point is that because of this shared sense of grief and awareness of Sarina's mortality I never really got the impression that she was under even the slightest illusion that Gorou was serious which is why later materials' framing of her as being convinced she can and will be in a relationship with him feel so weird to me. The SENSEI KEKKON SHITE thing doesn't even really feel like Sarina herself is all that serious about it - the energy is almost more like a running bit. Obviously her feelings for him were very strongly and sincerely held and I do think it makes sense for her to jump to actively wanting to be in a romance with him and thinking it was plausible post 123 when her brain has been ensoupened but again, there's that backfill in both Spica and main story material that implies she was ALWAYS that hung up on and deluded about him and tbh I don't really know what to make of it.
In an exclusively post 123 context though, I do really agree with this take on Ruby! This is obviously not a healthy response nor is she thinking at all realistically about what she's propositioning, especially given the kind of weird energy in 143 where she just never even acknowledges Aqua's existence as her brother. Honestly the way OnK has handled AquRuby since 123 and its reluctance to actually acknowledge the incest when it bothers to take Ruby's feelings is very strange to me and I can't quite tell if it's intentional or not yet.
If it IS intentional, then I think it's the set up for Ruby being smacked in the face with the reality of what actually being in a relationship with Gorou-via-Aqua would would actually mean. Because like, regardless of how you or me or anyone feels about incest as a fictional device, in-universe Oshi no Ko is essentially set in our own world - a dramatically exaggerated version with supernatural elements, sure, but still paralleling our own closely enough to comment on real world issues. For OnK to treat most of the other taboos and issues it addresses as seriously as it does and NOT do the same with incest would be incredibly jarring and deeply incongruous.
If you'll forgive a tangent within a tangent, this is a big part of why the infamous ending of Usagi Drop comes off as so fucking unhinged. It's not just that the story twists itself into a pretzel to hook up Rin and Daikichi (though, you know… that), it's that everyone in the cast acts like a fucking space alien on service of making it happen and it occurs with no conflict or consequences. There's this bizarre energy around the cast interactions that's hard to accurately convey, but every time someone in-universe finds out about Rin's feelings for Daikichi, it's immediately treated like them hooking up is not only the obvious and inevitable conclusion but that Daikichi is somehow obligated to enter a romance with Rin purely because she has feelings for him. Daikichi's own feelings on the matter are irrelevant. As far as the story is concerned, him going from seeing Rin as his daughter to seeing Rin (very explicitly and textual) as a romantic and sexual partner is as easy as flipping a switch and it's purely macho stubbornness that keeps him from doing so. It's absolutely mind boggling to read.
Anyway. Oh my God. To cut my EXTREMELY long rambling short and actually loop back around to the point of all this: Because of ^ ALL THAT ^ and the way the story has very conspicuously dodged around the HKAI breakup and suddenly swerved to 15YL's depiction of Ai's time in hospital, I'm still pretty certain that the "I can't love you (like that)" is going to be the main emotional capstone for Ruby's own character arc within the Movie Arc as a whole and possibly the emotional climax/resolution of wtfever OnK is doing with AQRB (& GRSR through them) right now. Given how much weight was given to that scene in particular way back when I'd be shocked if we skipped it and I do think there's some merit to the reads of Aqua and Ruby each paralleling the 'opposite' parent, so to speak - Nik (@akane-kurokawa) even pointed out in their 143 review that while the AquRuby kiss is paralleled by the in-movie HikaAi kiss, Aqua is in Ai's position and Ruby is in Hikaru's.
I do hope that this is something intentional and that we'll see something come of it - if nothing else, seeing Ruby have to deal with her relationship to and feelings about her father and the knowledge that he killed her beloved mom is something I really wanted out of the Movie Arc and I've been sorely disappointed by it being reduced to gag fodder thus far. But like I always say at this point, the Movie Arc is such an unfocused clusterfuck I have no idea if this is something we can rely on to be a long term theme.

hey, your response to my thoughts on szobo were great! so level headed. i’m not a szobo hater or anything and ofc, as an lfc fan, i want nothing but success for him. but i defo believe the hype is getting to his head and time will tell how long this lasts. if it persists, i don’t think he’s right for the club and could cause major issues in the morale. even mo salah has never had en ego and that’s exactly why our team works. but given that he’s new to the country and the PL, he’s just needs some serious media training
Sorry for the whole essay I left on your post haha
I just so your post, thought it was great and wanted to share my thoughts as well! Thank you for messaging me, sharing your opinion, I really do appreciate it, and I think you are correct in many things.
Personally, I wouldn't go as far to say that the hype is getting to him, sure, ever since coming to lfc he has blown up, to a much bigger audience and fans than ever before, but as someone who has been following him for years (especially in the NT, where he has been almost worshipped for years now as some kind of savior), he has always been like this. By that I mean his sense of humor, his personality, mentality, he has been like this since he made his his first debut to the NT. In the last year the hype around in Hungary reached the sky, to say he is popular and loved is an understatement. Interestingly, I think he handled this worship he receives in Hungary pretty well, I would say before, he had a much bigger head (of course he was younger as well) than he does now. Since he became captain he matured even more, and even the very, very strict hungarian media backed off of from him. (There was a time when he was slandered for basically everything. Even his haircuts, claiming they made him have a big face and nothing else on the pitch 😂)
I saw a journalist call his confidence borderline arrogance, or something like that, and that is probably the best way to describe him. There is a very narrow line between having limitless, shameless confidence in yourself like he does or having an ego, I understand that to many, it's rather the second they feel like he has. Certainly, all those interviews, him being very noticeably unprepared (which is very weird imo) for a media of this caliber, the popularity and attention he receives for being a lfc player, didn't help much. Sure, we can (and should) talk about context, language barrier, cultural differences, but at the end of the day, he really shouldn't have said those things. He really does media training or just a chat about all of this with the staff, because at the moment I Will admit it really is not looking good.
Still, I do believe this whole thing is being blown out of proportion at this point, mainly due to his first truly poor performance.
I guess only time will tell how he reacts to all these, if he changes, learns and I do hope he does, but in the same time, I do feel like some are being way to harsh on him, almost trying to see things that, in my opinion, are not there.

Idk just think it’s weird that Q hasn’t spoken out 🤷🏾♀️. People getting doxxed and mess (from what I’ve seen/ heard mainly Q’s “fandom” (sorry don’t know the right word to use)) for simply just for being excited for the USMP. Like he can’t just tweet “I don’t condone this” or whatever?
Even about the messaging thing. Haven’t MULTIPLE people tried and contact him with no response (besides Karl)? It is weird that a lot of people tried reaching out and not one response back just saying “I’m ok, just don’t wanna talk” or something.
But me personally (who hasn’t had the time to really look into this) I didn’t see it as “drama” I saw it as “hey this is what has been going on, and I’ve seen what has happened to the people in both communities”
Ok so I'm taking this at face value so if I'm interpreting anything you've said wrongly do feel free to correct me. And I'm sorry if my response seems all over the place I just wanted to reply as soon as possible.
I think in general it is unfair to expect quackity to reply. Is it the most emotionally mature thing to do? No absolutely not. And I'm sure he's aware of it as well. Do I think the whole situation is ridiculous? Yeah. Do I think it was the best move on Q's part? Probably not. Do I get why he did that? Also yes.
Anyway, I think that in a situation like this, where dream has said some pretty passive aggressive things about quackity, both on Twitter and on stream even when they were supposedly still friends, looked down on the things quackity has achieved, like with the streamer awards etc, Q actually does not owe dream a response. Replying to the other people who reached out would mean having to actually acknowledge what is going on and it would end with having to talk with dream as now others will have become deeply involved in this mess. And I genuinely do not think that dream is the kind of person that would actually listen to Q if they actually did sit down and talk but that's another conversation.
Dream also is known for ghosting people (like the way ccs on the dsmp couldn't do lore streams bc dream never replied to them etc) so the way he's reacting to this is just hypocritical to me and the way he has handled it is also very childish. He's basically forcing quackity to reply to him through peer pressure and by relying on his fans bothering Q about it it enough that he'll give up on keeping distance. Which also is not an emotionally mature reaction imo.
You're right the whole situation is a mess, I have even seen some people who claimed to be doxxed being proven false, and while I do feel very bad in case there are people that did actually get doxxed and hope they'll be able to move on from it soon, saying that the majority of the doxxers are Quackity stans is untrue as far as I know. Bc I've also seen lots of dream stans spreading misinfo, claiming everyone is suddenly from lktwt, claiming every person critisizing dream is racist.
Arguments about the usmp/qsmp are mainly rooted in the fact that some people get really vile about it and yes I'll admit some people who dislike dream do go a bit far. But at this point the majority of mcyt twt dislikes dream so it isn't just quackity stans.
I have seen people being straight up racist towards quackity bc of it. And perhaps you could argue I'm biased as someone who deeply dislikes dream but I think there's a lot more hostility coming from the usmp side of the argument.
Either way doxxing obviously isn't ok and I don't condone it and I hope everyone that got doxxers is safe and ok.
However I'd also like to add that the only reason this whole usmp Vs qsmp debate has been going on is bc dream couldn't stop mentioning quackity and the qsmp all the time so I'd say dream also has blame in this and I feel he should tweet something denouncing his stans harassing others instead of putting all the blame on someone else since he's so keen on putting pressure on Q.
Also would like to add that no matter what quackity does at this point, things will not change for the better as the situation has been escalated by dream like a lot.

This was definitely true in like, the 2000s (and in TV/movies.) Nowadays, I'd change Cyclops to 'The Narrative.' If the central premise is interrogated it doesn't stand up very well, but that would cause the X-Men to change (a good thing imo) - something Marvel wishes to avoid. So instead of a dialectic paradigm Xavier's 'dream' is presented uncritically as a correct and fully realised political and ideological position.
Starting with Magneto way back in the 60s, other approaches or ideologies are always reacting to Xavier's 'dream' but they're ridiculous and illogical, completely unfeasible and generally personified by lunatics and extremists. Magneto, for example, was right that humans were always going to try to kill them, but his position is undercut by the aforementioned narrative presentation. Repeat ad infinitum. Decades pass and *millions* of mutants die. The 'dream' is never truly challenged or built upon - it's been around for so long it's acquired narrative weight - so dense it suffocates even the tiniest ideological shift.
By the time Cyclops is holding it up by itself the dream has become a nightmare. Editorial decree required 'no more mutants' which not only depowered all but ~198, no new mutants were being born. The Extinction era. One would think a subspecies on the verge of extinction would be concerned exclusively with survival. The genocidal threats haven't gone anywhere, after all - indeed every threat by definition is a genocidal one. The X-Men become in truth what they've always been - an army. The Dream itself was never explicitly pointed at as a failure, but the way the characters acted changed. Almost everyone deferred (including Magneto and Xavier) to Cyclops as a John Connor military leader and symbol.
This would have been the perfect time to take the Dream to task for the childish ideology and abject failure it is, but that didn't happen. Xavier himself was knocked off his pedestal and rejected for being a manipulative and deceitful jerk with countless violations of consent, but not the dream. They knew they'd need it again.
A...lot happened between 2010 and 2019. Wolverine deciding kids shouldn't be trained to fight and restarted the school, naming it after Jean Grey. (Nobody seemed to mention that the school had always been a paramilitary academy, and the narrative kept all the genocidal threats away from it to prove him right and demonise Cyclops.) War with the Avengers. New Mutants start being born. A bunch of other shit that's honestly very skippable.
In 2019 they all moved to Krakoa and built a fully automated gay sci fi communist utopia. The separatist aspect (or as I call it, a safe space) was explicitly an evolution and compromise with the dream. Mutants had it better than ever. I've got a few drafts with my thoughts on this era bc it was amazing, and I'll finish those at some point, but it's over now. For frankly forced and silly reasons, it's referred to as if it was a failure (Mistakes were made, to be sure, but no more than any other country - most of whom didn't have to deal with constant genocides and a digital God. It's only a failure bc poochie died on the way back to his home planet.) Xavier is in a hectic jail and everyone has to begin again. It's the perfect time to dream a new dream without the suffocating presence of the old. All the setup is there, even Magneto has learned that there's no war but class war.
Will they interrogate their mission statement and graduate to mature political actors? Will the promise be followed up on? We'll see. I'll definitely be watching and asking this question. I don't have much respect for Tom Brevoort, tbh. His Spider-Man 'manifesto' was illogical and full of factual holes - his personal nostalgia disguised as analysis. Fan response was mixed and sales went down. Somehow he failed up and is 'Conductor of X' - Chief Editor of the X-Line and characters I believe. His comments and edicts so far have been milquetoast and give me the same vibes as his Spider-Man 'manifesto.' I hope it will be, and I hope it'll be fun and fresh - so I'll leave it there. On hope. With a 'dream' if you will lol.

BHE
I agree with what you said about BHE; I feel like they focus too much on tritype and tbh I'm starting to get annoyed at their arrogance and relentless sex-related posts. I was surprised when you said that John could be a 2. Do you think they type people incorrectly? Sometimes the Enneagram feels weird in that the sources vary a ton and you have no idea who the correct one is. (Hello, 6 doubt!) Idk just feeling confused and unsure what source I should invest my time into.
When you focus too much on tritype, you hobble yourself from using the Enneagram for its genuine purpose -- which is self-growth and maturity within your number. When you have only one number to think about in terms of development (rather than 3, all of which are presumed to be "somewhat unhealthy") it's much easier to really get to know yourself through that number and start to mature it, by learning to question your instinctual responses (see them as optional or a habit, rather than compulsive, which gives you the power to choose to go along with them or to defy them -- that is when you truly have control over your own mind for the first time: choice).
You could spend six months, for example, wondering you are a 694 or a 693, or you could spend six months working to understand your 6-ness and learning to take a stand against your fears.
I would say yes, they can mistype people -- because anyone typing others from the outside rather than asking them about their core motivations, fears, and observing their coping mechanisms cannot possibly know you. Others can say that your emphasis on this SEEMS to be more like that type, but knowing your type needs to come from self-study, and 99% of people are capable of self-typing accurately. It just takes a little time and a willingness to look at your lesser attributes and fears.
IMO, you should read all the Enneagram books (Rohr, Stabile, Cron, Hudson, Chestnut, and yes, Lucovich) and then take the information you've come across and test it against people you know in real life. Theories can get out of whack by conjuring up weird ideas, but having one foot in reality and seeing how the types manifest within real people will help you get a better sense of the type structure. (Example: I know this person is a 2 and they seem to be sp/so, so how does that manifest in their behavior in contrast to this self-pres 2 description?)
Instead of going, "Why don't I fit this subtype description better, did I pick the wrong one?" ask, "What parts of this description aren't true for me, and why is my perspective more strongly my instinct than this abstract summation of a type?" Draw your own understanding of what your subtype looks like from YOU USING IT, rather than over-focusing on a summary written by someone who isn't you. Subtypes are a focus of energy and while they revolve around certain staples, it's going to manifest differently in each person of that type. So you need to form an understanding of what being, for example, an sp/so looks like in YOURSELF.
Don't pay anyone to tell you who you are. Do it yourself.

i appreciate your apology and i appreciate you owning up to being hostile/not handling this properly, and i want to reassure you that it's fine and i get the point you're trying to make too. again i'm not here to start drama LOL i never was and still am not
i will be 100% blunt with you, i am not being a dick and wasn't being a dick, and i won't apologize for it. i'm always happy to admit i was wrong if i was, but any hostility or aggressiveness or emotion that you see in those messages are not actually there, but i can understand you're only perceiving it that way from your own trauma. i was 100% chill and none of those asks are emotionally driven and aren't even remotely done with the intent of hostility or arguing. i think people tend to get a little too...? eager to take confrontation as aggression but i am a full grown adult and i really have better things to do with my time than get upset and heated over things like this. because as you said, yes, this is a very minor instance of someone bastardizing my trauma, so i'm not going to get totally bent out of shape about it. but i am still allowed to gently approach someone telling them what they're doing is wrong and harmful and apply clarification where is necessary. i approached this situation with maturity and the intention to spread awareness and understanding of how issues like this can affect real victims, and now OP is posting and reblogging posts about cult awareness which is Honestly all i wanted was for there to be more awareness being spread about it and taking the topic more seriously
again i wish to stress that even "oh my god i love this character so much" ""cults"" are harmful and adding to the issue too, and continue to add normalization and stigma behind the actual label of what cults are. i approached OP with the intention of telling them that what they're doing is harmful and nothing more as a hopes that they would understand and either stop using the label or at least be more vocal about spreading awareness or educate themselves more on the topic. because honestly, IMO, if you actually understood cults to a more intimate degree i don't think you would WANT to use them in a joke-like context. again using my same point again: if you wouldn't do it about things like trafficking rings, why is doing it with cults suddenly okay?
i agree that it's okay to make jokes about your own trauma to cope (at least to an extent before it gets too unhealthy). but to my understanding, correct me if i'm wrong, neither of the founders of this blog HAVE cult trauma or experiences with actual cults. you are not 'desensitized' to cults or cult related trauma, you just simply don't understand cults on a more intimate level and have no direct experience with them to actually feel the emotional outrage you should be feeling. this isn't meant to be belittling or say "you don't actually care", i mean this in a 100% serious way, even my friends who care heavily about me and care about my trauma do not fully grasp the weight of how serious it is for me and don't have experience or education surrounding cult trauma to actually BE sensitized to it to begin with. because honestly cult trauma is only something that's so difficult to understand without experience
emotional regulation is something that's incredibly important to practice and achieve, and it's something i recommend looking into through therapy (if you have access to it, i understand not everyone can). having the skills to step away and catch your breath and refrain from acting on emotion and let yourself cool off before saying anything is something that i highly recommend looking into and practicing. it's helped me a lot to, when i get emotional, take a moment to vent about it in private and get my thoughts together before approaching the issue directly. at the very least being able to have a 2nd opinion or making a draft or Something to look over and reflect on puts a little bit of a pause between you and your direct response to avoid letting yourself lose control of your emotions
i understand you're just trying to explain, and i appreciate your POV, and i understand a lot of the "overexplaining everything to avoid misunderstanding/conflict" thing because i have OCD which causes me to do the same thing LMAO i just want to let you know that a lot of your response does feel like making excuses for yourself (particularly the "i was on my period and grumpy" part), but don't worry too much about it because i still get your point and i'm not upset or mad about it or anything
why exactly are you so dead set on using the term cult anyway? what exactly does the word "cult" have that other alternatives don't? seriously ask yourself this question and then reflect it on real life instances of cults and ask if you would say the same thing. because with how you're responding to me it doesn't seem like you're actually taking it seriously at all, assigning roles like "blood ritualist" doesn't seem like something you'd do if you took cults seriously either, i don't understand
why do you care so much?

cad meta is what i do and i’m having a bad day and need a distraction so here’s some thoughts on all his weird shit last night. in three parts.
part i: “i regret my weakness” is such a line. let’s talk priorities. let’s talk about sureness. let’s talk about people as projects. let’s talk about that fucking commune.
as soon as shit started getting connected, he zoned the fuck out and was like, “yes, i have a way to solve this and help get these connections made.” i’ve missed commune, it’s a good spell, and i like the way melora’s answers are treated. he asked about nott, and then beau (or maybe the other way around?), and then about his family, for the first time.
(maybe it’s because beau pointed out that his lack of attempts seemed odd? maybe it’s because he’s slowly started to realize that he’s a person who can go after his own wants?)
i am... concerned about the vagueness of the answer he received re: his family, but it at least confirms that some of the clays are probably alive and definitely in the menagerie. but it’s the response to that that gets me. it’s how he reacts to that news of, well, everything you’re looking for--or at least most things--are in one place, and your friends are willing to go, even amidst their own issues.
he starts out by calling himself weak, and then refusing to explain that insult to the others. he then begins a repression-disguised-as-selflessness off with beau and nott--two strong competitors in the field. somehow, he wins.
but he was excited the night before. he was ready. he admitted that his path was kind of urgent, but he turned back on that, once he learned that the others were already there. i’ll talk more on this later, but... it doesn’t paint a happy picture of his feelings about his family. the word “abandoned” came up on talks the other week, and i’m standing by that i think that’s the main emotion, here. again, i’ll talk more on that later. fjord called him selfless, in the hot tub talk. caduceus corrected him, and said he was afraid. i don’t think he’s just afraid of them being dead, is the thing. i am still wearing my “Cad Is Sick/Cursed/Withering” hat though, for personal reasons and also because of course that would make the reunions tense. of course.
the fact that he thinks going to the menagerie is “inevitable” and he wants to “spend the time before that doing as much as we can for everybody” lends some weight to this theory--the too-pale, very eccentric, too-thin, always-tired, liar, baby of the family (it happens, so everybody cares and wears the sheep’s clothes while they chaperone) doesn’t want to be taken home. doesn’t want to be breakable and useless. he has people to help, now.
but let’s talk about the other backstory-dodge attemptees, for a second.
cad admires beau. this is canon, i don’t shut up about this. cad genuinely thinks that beau is the coolest person he has ever met, and he’s right. he wants to help her, but he didn’t really know she needed to be helped, but this--well. forest witches and family issues, that’s his fucking wheelhouse. his desire to help her isn’t like his usual help-quests--he’s very much handling this like he handled the trent situation, it seems, where he’s like, “oh, these people hurt you? i hate them and will kill them. i have never had friends before and this is how friendship works.” which is so valid.
nott, meanwhile, we know he has (entirely reasonable imo) beef with. he brought up a part of that beef last week--please just apologize and have a conversation about dying, god. but he wants to help, because he knows nothing if not fixing things, people. he hates it when he doesn’t know how to fix things, people--let’s recall one of his first-ever communes, the too big to fix one. and it’s a character flaw, this, we know. he has a poorly shaped understanding of how non-familial, non-divine, non-transactional relationships work. he deals exclusively in the one-on-one, unless he’s fucking with people or communicating with melora. (”his protector” was a fun new label, matthew.)
so again. witches, curses, feeling weird about going back to the way things were before the nein? kind of his fucking wheelhouse. nott hasn’t been helpable, until now, in his eyes, because she didn’t want to be fixed. but now she does, so--well. now he can try. and it’s fucked up, and it’s shitty, but it’s certainly interesting, too.
part ii: this episode was very centric on family shit in general so as a nice change of pace in between two family drama parts we’re gonna talk about drinking, drugs, and a potential crush on a certain warlock/paladin
we’ve known since the island with the bees that it’s not that he doesn’t like drinking, it’s that he doesn’t like the taste of alcohol, but episode 92 kind of. hit that harder than before. he’ll take whiskey, mixed with juice, and if it’s still nasty, he’ll add hallucinogenic fruit that he’s only ever used before (unless tal’s goof about microdosing the crew was not a goof, which. it was a goof.) to ask melora about vandran. and he’ll enjoy himself! Caduceus Does Drugs was, again, canon, but we’ve never experienced high cad before.
and high cad? rather--crossed cad, because he was drunk, too. crossed cad is a flirt. after being made uncomfortable at the idea of him being related to fjord--who is so handsome, with a nice-looking nose and cool hair--he spends the night just. “fjord you’re so cool. fjord your accent is so hard how do you do accents, fjord. fjord your magic which used to scare me is so cool. fjord your joke was funny.” he gets embarrassed. he facepalms on the bar. as a fellow socially awkward gay, yasha pats him on the back. and then, he continues. just talking to fjord.
he wakes up hungover. he quietly dislikes it. beau quietly notices. nobody else comments.
when they get to kamordah, he drinks again. if i saw things right, for the first time, we see caduceus not wince at the taste of a (non-mead) alcohol. it might have just been a tal-wasn’t-in-character, but iirc, every other time cad’s drank? there’s been some faces made.
something’s up. again, we’ve known for a good amount of time that Caduceus Is Not Okay, and i am the first to advocate for Caduceus Has A Crush, but this episode managed to solidify both of those things very clearly. he doesn’t know what he wants anymore, is the thing. and he’s so lonely.
part iii: back to family drama! fragility, bad dads, and the fact that the nein are more similar than anyone wants to admit
his attempt at using objective language when talking about seeing one’s parents again is sort of what set me off last night. last night was all about shitty parents, and uhhhh well we certainly got some fuel to the “cad’s a little bit angry at his parents” fire last night.
we were talking in the fc server on how a few of us (self-included) are under the impression that cad’s dad is one of the family members already “under the ground,” which reminded me of a terribly long, purple-prosey character analysis thing i wrote in like. june. wherein i posited that caduceus was probably rather young when people started leaving. the maturity line kind of... hinted at that, i think. he’s done a lot of thinking, in the time he’s been alone; it’s kind of implied that he did a lot of his growing up in his time alone.
he didn’t care if thoureau was being genuine or not. he cared to know if thoureau took actual steps for protecting his family, or if he was just paranoid and performative. caduceus clay is a charismatic forest-dwelling witch, raised by forest-dwelling witches, and he knows the types of wards and guards and protections they suggest. he knows the lies they tell those they perceive to be naïve.
did abandonment help beau? is fjord really on some grand destined quest tied all because of a family name? did jester’s loneliness make her the beacon of joy that she appears to be? is caleb forever bound to fix who he was before all of this? is yasha allowed to embrace that she is loved, now? if nott’s problem is solved, will she leave the nein without complaint?
makes you think. or whatever.

the tied to a tree scene was funny for me because that's where I realized "OH. I bet people ship them. EW." and I still see that scene as not even remotely friendly, much less romantic, but I just love the GROWTH! zuko needs the redemption arc before he can be with katara. and then I ship them.
a million percent correct take, let me hyper fixate on this shit lol.
so I started watching in book 2, so I was already aware of a bit of the Growth that had taken place when I saw that scene, but it was still... not a shippy moment for me, you know? I mean bdsm isn’t my thing but that scene is not comparable to bdsm which I believe requires consent and communication, none of which is what we see in that scene, and also blegh they’re children LMAO like they’re kids. I feel gross just making that point. but I think that scene is where a lot of the grosser zutara fic comes from, and it just... warms my little queer heart to not see that shit anymore. like I’m sure it is still being written, but people do learn and unlearn, and that is evident in the most popular fanfic sub genres right now not being slave fic or captivity fic (eurghhhh).
people can and should criticize that shit. I am not the kind of person who is cool with uncritically engaging with media, I can’t do it. and that shouldn’t shock any of my followers lmao. but also, that isn’t the whole of zutara; in fact it’s barely a part of it at this point. and it should only be a part of their personal history insofar as he did that to her and then he learned to be better lmao. just like anything he did to aang or sokka or toph, or anyone!
anon, you’re right. part of the reason I love zutara is because of the GROWTH! you’re a million percent correct, zero percent wrong. because zuko works to earn katara’s forgiveness since he recognizes that while he was not directly responsible for the trauma of losing her mother at a young age to the cruelty of the fire lord (a trauma he shares, albeit differently) he IS directly responsible for betraying her trust in the catacombs of change and empathy. he knows that. and I don’t think him being frustrating that she won’t forgive him means that he feels entitled to her forgiveness, he just wants their relationship to be better. like who among us burst from the womb being emotionally mature? not I.
katara is not just willing to forgive people who have both benefited from and also been marginalized by fire nation imperialism - she is pretty quick to do so. like, this might be an effect of white americans writing an indigenous girl’s story in the first place, but she is able to take an intersectional view on oppression - that once it becomes clear that zuko is a victim to fire nation imperialism, perhaps even moreso than he is a benefactor of it, she is like not just willing to forgive him, but actively BONDS with him, despite of their antagonistic history.
katara is not mad at him in book 3 because of how he behaved prior to the crystal catacombs, or because he is fire nation. if she was, she wouldn’t have gone all painted lady for a town of people who have KIND OF benefited from what their government did to her people. the townspeople of jang hui are a pretty decent representation of like, poor people in west virginia for instance. not to say they aren’t capable of horrific racism, but if they have benefited from american empire it is... not very much. they are victims of industry and capitalism, and oh boy I have gone on a tangent LMAO let me get back to the point.
zuko hurt katara PERSONALLY. he betrayed her trust which was fully given because of their shared trauma at the hands of the fire nation. katara wanted zuko to be better than he had been because she could tell that he wanted to be better. but he wasn’t ready - he still wanted his father’s acceptance more than anything. and sometimes people aren’t ready to change, and what zuko and katara teach us that it’s not the onus of forgiveness is not on the wronged party, that “I’m sorry” isn’t always enough. and that when we hurt people, we need to actually do the work to be better, and if we do that, the person whose forgiveness we want might actually see reason to forgive.
and zuko recognizes this by the time he joins up with the gaang - he is finally ready to be better, not just because he knows that fire nation supremacy is bullshit, but because he recognizes that what his father can give him is not worth losing who he truly is.
and we know that when he tells ozai to eat shit, he’s finally ready, which is why that moment is SO GOOD. but the gaang doesn’t know that, and none of them is as emotionally invested in zuko as katara is. I imagine that she feels immense guilt about nearly “wasting” the spirit oasis water on his scar right before she needed to use it to save aang because of zuko’s betrayal of her (and iroh but). part of her anger at zuko imo is anger at herself for trusting him so quickly, without him earning her trust. she was the first to trust him, so she had to be the last to forgive him.
I think that applies whether you ship zutara or you think she takes the place of azula as his sister. none of what I just said is inherently shippy. to me the best zutara fic is about what happens AFTER the show, who they can be to each other when they are adults, who have learned more about what they want in life. especially katara. but the backbone of zutara to me is not the dark or sexy whatever fuckin bullshit bryke thinks it is, but the forgiveness and redemption and personal growth that they both experience with each other.
zuko is a highly empathetic person who cares about what she thinks and listens to her. and I get that aang is also highly empathetic. and I don’t want to go down the anti-kataang road because I’ve said what I think about kataang, and I don’t think zutara has to be to the exclusion of kataang existing at some point. this goes for maiko as well, although lol mai is a lesbian mailee forever ANYWAY
when I was sixteen and furious at the ending of atla, I didn’t feel that way. now that I am nearing thirty, it is hilarious to think that people don’t love multiple people during their journeys. that is also GROWTH. finding out what you want from partners. it’s natural for someone to love a partner and then fall out of love, or demand something else that their partner can’t give. or doesn’t want.
it’s the growth that does it for me. and I think people who don’t know zutara fandom might not get that because they don’t read our fic, they don’t see our discourse, and they’re allowed to feel that way, they are allowed to not interact with our shit. idk I’m proud of the zutara fandom for its growth tbh. no fandom is free of racism (fandoms are people) but we have done better, and it shows. we try not to get into it with kataang shippers now, which is a lot better than what it used to be. like I don’t see the ship wars anymore, I know they are raging but I’m beyond that shit.
growth!
#zutara#zuko#katara#this got out of hand lol#atla#please if you are anti-zutara just fuckin blacklist it#it's not that hard

Lover (Steve Harrington x Reader)
A/N: GUYS as you’ve probably noticed, I’m incredibly excited about the release of @taylorswift‘s new album. IMO, Lover is one of Taylor’s best songs to-date, and I thought it would fit perfectly with a fluffy, domestic Steve one-shot.
Warnings: Mild language, heavy fluff. Story under the cut.
We could leave the Christmas lights up 'til January
This is our place, we make the rules
And there's a dazzling haze, a mysterious way about you, dear
Have I known you 20 seconds or 20 years?
It wasn’t until you and Steve moved into your first home together that you realized how deeply in love he was with holiday decorations.
You had started the process of moving your belongings into the new place at the end of September. By mid-October, Steve had begun pestering you about shopping for Christmas decorations. You reminded him that you hadn’t even unpacked the last box yet, and Halloween hadn’t even occurred yet. Steve was persistent that you needed to get the lights up as soon as possible to “maximize the Christmas spirit.”
After a lot of convincing, Steve had finally agreed to wait until November. By then, you figured, he’d forget about it. I mean, this was the guy who couldn’t remember his social security number and occasionally wrote it on his stomach (“because I’m not dumb enough to keep it on, like, my hand, Y/N, where everyone can see it.” When when you suggested he just carry his social security card with him, he told you he didn’t trust himself not to lose it.) Surely, that guy would forget all about it, right?
Wrong. On November 1st, you were nursing a Halloween-candy hangover when Steve dragged you to Goodwill. You returned home with enough decorations to light up a mansion and spent the rest of the afternoon stringing them all around your tiny one-bedroom house. After dinner, you and Steve headed outside. As the sky faded to black, Steve wrapped an arm around your shoulders, and he watched in wonder as your small townhouse transformed into a winter wonderland.
“Look at that, Y/N! We did that,” he said. The various colors of the lights reflected in his eyes as he gazed down at you.
“I didn’t know King Steve Harrington could get so excited over Christmas lights.” Your smooth teasing was foiled by a strong gust of wind that left goosebumps on your arms and caused you to shudder.
“I’m full of surprises,” Steve said as the two of you started back towards the front door. “For example, you probably didn’t know, but I can make the best cup of hot chocolate in the state of Indiana.”
“Oh, really?”
“Oh, yeah. Grandma Harrington taught me her secret recipe.”
Even though youd known Steve for years, you learned new things about him every day. You wondered if you’d ever run out of things to learn about the boy you’d known all your life.
Can I go where you go?
Can we always be this close forever and ever?
And ah, take me out, and take me home
You're my, my, my, my lover
We could let our friends crash in the living room
This is our place, we make the call
And I'm highly suspicious that everyone who sees you wants you
I've loved you three summers now, honey, but I want 'em all
Dustin Henderson started referring to your place as “our house” before you guys even moved in. He dropped by several times a week with updates on the newest happenings at Hawkins Middle or questions about how to handle a Suzie situation. At least once a month, Dustin crashed on your couch after a weekend movie night.
On one occasion, you and Steve returned home from a date night to discover half a dozen adolescents gathered around the television in your living room. A curly-haired kid carried around a bag of chips in one hand and waved cheerfully with the other. He flashed his infamous toothy grin, which you met with a half-scowl, half-squint of confusion.
“Dustin? How did you get in here?”
Dustin spoke through a mouthful of Doritos. “My mom dropped us off. And then I used my key.”
Your glare switched targets. This time, you directed it at Steve. He clamped his hand down on his face; you weren’t sure if it was to avoid your gaze or express his frustration.
“Dude, I gave you that key for emergencies only.”
“This was an emergency!” Dustin threw up his hands, sending an army of cheesy corn chips into the atmosphere. After falling back to earth, bright orange triangles wedged themselves into your new white rug. “The season premiere of our favorite show is tonight, and we didn’t have anywhere to watch it.”
You crossed your arms over your chest. Your eyes scanned over the gang sprawled across your couch, armchairs, and carpet. Judging by the boxes of candy and cans of soda littered across the floor, Dustin must have raided your pantry. Apparently, the kitchen wasn’t the only place he infiltrated, since almost your entire linen closet was spread out over the living room. Lucas and Max shared the recliner beside which Dustin was currently standing. Will sat on a pillow with his back against the coffee table, his attention still focused on the television screen. You turned your attention to Mike, who was curled up next to El under a crocheted blanket you’d received from your grandmother.
“Doesn’t your family have a TV, Mike?”
"Yeah, we do, but my mom kicked us out so she could watch a soap opera or some shit. She and Nancy love that crap.”
Nancy.
That name ignited the flame of jealousy in your chest. You knew it was totally irrational; she and Steve hadn’t dated since high school. They’d both moved on-something Nancy did almost instantaneously. Steve had told you the whole saga of their mostly-one-sided relationship, and you were fairly certain Nancy never really loved him.
Still, Nancy was Steve’s first serious girlfriend. She was the first girl-the only girl, other than you-to whom he’d said “I love you” and meant it. Nancy was, and would always be, Steve’s first love. There wasn’t anything you could do to change that.
“Y/N? Hey, babe, you good?”
Steve’s voice jolted you back to reality. You shook your head slightly to clear it, then nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine.”
You pretended not to notice the way his mouth twitched downward slightly in concern.
“Great. So we can stay?” Dustin interrupted. The hopeful gleam in his eyes was too much to resist.
“I guess,” you sighed, earning a chorus of triumphant “yeah!”s from the kids. “Your show’s probably about over by now, anyway, isn’t it?”
Dustin furrowed his thick brows, as though that was the most blatantly incorrect assumption you could have made. Lucas let you know that “it doesn’t even start for three more hours.”
“Won’t that be, like, midnight? Your parents aren’t going to freak out if you come home at two in the morning?” Steve asked.
“Actually...” Dustin drew out the word until he finally ran out of air. Then, he spoke the next few words in one breath. “We were hoping you’d let us spend the night here?”
You and Steve exchanged glances. Between your schoolwork and Steve’s work schedule, the two of you hadn’t been able to spend as much quality time together. You’d finally both managed to secure a responsibility-free night and a cheesy rom-com to watch while cuddling on the couch. (Steve pretended to hate those movies, but he almost always teared up at least once during the show.)
None of that mattered now, though, because your boyfriend could never say no to his favorite child-or so you thought.
Steve scratched the back of his neck. He glanced at you out of the corner of his eye before saying, “Actually, Dustin, tonight’s not the best night for a sleepover. Y/N and I kind of had plans.”
Lucas raised his eyebrows suggestively. “Plans, huh? What kind of plans?” he said, earning a smack on the arm from his girlfriend.
Color rose to your cheeks; Steve picked up a pillow someone had haphazardly tossed on the floor and launched it at Lucas’s head. Instead of hitting its intended target, though, the cushion collided with Max’s face. Ever the hothead, the ginger quickly contorted her neutral expression into a deep frown. She chucked the pillow back toward Steve with tremendous force, along with a few other throw pillows. Only one actually hit Steve. The rest rained down on you.
And, as a mature, homeowning adult battling literal children, you knew there was only one correct response: to hurl each and every one of those pillows right back.
It didn’t take long before the scene devolved into utter chaos. Fluffy rectangles flew across the living room, smacking into bodies or simply into walls. The kids outnumbered you and Steve three-to-one, so you were doomed from the start. However valiant of an effort you two gave, the party still overcame you, burying you and Steve under an avalanche of pillows.
“Clearly, we won this fight,” Dustin said as he loomed over you. Steve had tried to act as your human shield, so he laid beside you on the floor. “I think that means we earned the right to stay.”
“Dustin-“
“No, Steve, it’s okay,” you said, turning towards him. “I know it’s not what we originally planned, but maybe a sleepover with the kids would be fun.”
Steve looked at you with admiration glittering in his chocolate eyes. “Yeah?” he asked softly.
“Yeah.” You shifted a few pillows to get closer to Steve and plant a gentle kiss on his mouth. He smiled as your lips brushed his, and for a moment, you forgot about the gang of gangly tweens in your living room.
Then, a symphony of “ew”s and “aw”s and “can you not”s and “I think it’s sweet”s erupted throughout the room.
Steve shot into an upright position, pointing his finger in the general direction of the sitting area. “Hey, this is my house, and my girlfriend, and if I want to kiss her, I will. And if you dweebs want to stay here to watch your stupid show, you’ll keep your mouths shut.”
“As long as you keep yours shut,” Dustin quipped. “I think I can speak for everyone when I say we’d rather not see you and Y/N sticking your tongues down each other’s throats.”
You tossed the last pillow throw of the night at Dustin but agreed. You and Steve kept the PDA to a minimum that night. They were just kids, after all, and you didn’t want to corrupt them. However, when Nancy came to pick up Mike the next morning and Steve waved to her from the porch, you didn’t hesitate to flounce out the front door in your robe and draw Steve into a passionate kiss.
You just had to make sure Nancy knew what was yours.
Can I go where you go?
Can we always be this close forever and ever?
And ah, take me out, and take me home
You're my, my, my, my lover
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand?
With every guitar string scar on my hand
I take this magnetic force-of-a-man to be my lover
My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue
All's well that ends well to end up with you
Swear to be overdramatic and true to my lover
And you'll save all your dirtiest jokes for me
And at every table, I'll save you a seat, lover
Your favorite part of the day was coming home to your best friend.
Steve more or less memorized your schedule. You arrived home around the same time every evening, so Steve knew when to start listening for the sound of gravel crunching under the wheels of your car. He would then meet you on the porch with a “hello” kiss and a “how was your day, honey?” You always feigned indignance as he took your bags, murmuring something about how weak he must think you are to not be able to carry them two more steps. But, secretly, you spent your entire commute home anticipating the interaction.
This was especially true on the stressful days, the ones you felt would never end. Even though Steve was completely clueless in most situations, he could typically tell when you were in a foul mood. Those were the times he pulled you a little closer to his heart, hugged you a little tighter, loved you a little extra-just in case you needed it.
Today, you really, really did. It had been one of those days where everything seems to go wrong. You couldn’t wait to crawl into bed with Steve and snuggle all your sorrows away.
As you pulled into the driveway, your heart beat faster in anticipation. You watched the front door swing open. It took you a second to realize that the figure standing on the porch wasn’t your boyfriend. Rather, it was a short, stocky kid with a halo of golden curls. If it hadn’t been for the unmistakable hair, you might not have recognized him; you’d never seen him sans ballcap but plus a paisley-print bowtie around his neck and certainly never with dish rag was draped over his arm.
“Hey, Dustin,” you said. When he responded by simply smiling back at you, you asked, “What...what’cha doing here, kid?”
“Hello, Ms. Y/L/N. I’ll be your server for the evening,” he responded without missing a beat.
“My server?”
Dustin bent his head slightly in what he must have considered a sophisticated spin on a nod. “Indeed. Now, if you’ll follow me, ma’am...”
You kicked off your shoes and set down your purse before wandering after your guide down the dimly-lit hall. Something crinkled under your footsteps. You quickly noticed small ovals scattered across the wood floor. As you stepped on one, it felt like silk against your bare feet.
Petals?
You were too busy staring at the flowers scattered across the hall to realize you’d reached your destination. Dustin stopped, and you ran right into his back. You stumbled before regaining your balance and taking a look around the room.
The “server” had escorted you to your own kitchen-a place you were quite familiar with, since Steve couldn’t cook a decent meal to save his life. (To be fair, though, you weren’t much more skilled with the stove, so approximately 90% of your diet was comprised of takeout and peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches.) However, you’d never seen the kitchen quite like this.
It was the cleanest it had been since move-in day. Not a dish sat on the counter or even in the sink. The crumbs typically scattered across the floor had been replaced by rose petals. Sparkling white Christmas lights stretched across the room, and Elvis Presley crooned over the record player in the corner of the room. You didn’t even know Steve owned a record player. (As you later discovered, he didn’t. He’d borrowed it from Jonathan Byers.)
In the center of the room, your cheap card table was draped with a lace tablecloth. Wedged between two covered silver platters that looked like they belonged in a castle, a flickering candle cast shadows on the face of the boy sitting beside it. As soon as his eyes fell on you, he scrambled to his feet and over to you.
“Hi,” Steve said, winding his arms around your waist. He sounded breathless, even though he’d literally just walked a few feet.
“Hey.” Your eyes flicked from his slicked-back hair and freshly-shaven face to his crisp button-up and newly-polished shoes. “What’s-um-what’s all this?” you asked, vaguely gesturing around the room.
“Oh, you know.” Steve pressed a quick kiss to your lips before taking your hand and leading you to the table. “I just thought I’d do something special for you tonight.”
"That’s...really sweet.”
Steve scooted your chair in before placing himself back into the seat across from you. Dustin disappeared into your pantry, then returned with a bottle of sparkling grape juice. As you watched the teenager carefully pour a splash into each of your glasses, you asked whether Steve had bribed or tricked him into spending his Friday night playing restaurant.
“This is my full-time job, ma’am. This is how I earn my living,” Dustin answered dutifully before breaking character. “Besides, four of my stupid friends are on a double-date, and Will’s sick, so I had nothing better to do.”
“Way to sell us on the idea that you want to be here, dipshit,” Steve remarked.
“Hey, show our waiter a little respect!” you teased, gently kicking Steve under the table.
“Thank you, Y/N. But, actually, I prefer the term server,” Dustin corrected. He proceeded to produce a notepad from his pocket and read you the specials-or, rather, special, considering there was only one: spaghetti with meatballs. “On our regular menu, we also offer a wonderful noodle dish with a marinara sauce for the same low price as the special-zero dollars.”
You quirked an eyebrow. “So...just spaghetti again?”
Dustin clapped a hand over his heart in mock offense. “Excuse you, madam. It’s spaghetti without meatballs, which is a completely different experience.” Dustin glanced around as though someone might overhear before quietly adding, “Personally, I would recommend the spaghetti with meatballs, unless you want grubby hands digging around in your dish to pull out the meatballs, which may or may not already be incorporated into the pasta.”
You rolled your eyes but laughed nonetheless. “I guess I’ll have the spaghetti with meatballs, then.”
“Excellent choice. And for you, sir?”
“I’ll have the same,” said Steve.
“Well, you’ve both made this very easy for me. Pardon my reach,” Dustin said, leaning over to pluck the covers off the platters. A heaping hill of noodles, red sauce, and meatballs lay underneath.
Dustin took the lids and disappeared into the living room. You weren’t sure if Dustin was just trying to stay out of the way or if he was going to attempt to wash them in the bathroom sink. It definitely wouldn’t have been the weirdest thing he’d done in your house; once, you and Steve caught him trying to explain morse code to a squirrel in your backyard. That kid was truly an odd duck.
And speaking of weird behavior, you were still seriously questioning what was happening. Steve was a sweetheart, and he did everything in his power to make you happy. This definitely wasn’t the first time he’d surprised you with a thoughtful gesture, but it was probably the most all-out he’d ever gone. The last time he even attempted to cook for you was during senior year of high school, when you first started dating. As an after-school snack, Steve had popped some pizza rolls in the microwave and promptly forgotten about them...until, of course, the kitchen appliance burst into flames.
As strange as it was, you didn’t want to ruin the moment by verbally expressing your curiosities. You simply swirled slightly-soggy spaghetti around your spoon and savored the small talk. Eventually, Dustin reappeared to clear your plates and ask if you wanted dessert.
“What are my options?”
Dustin’s excellent waiter facade faded for a second. He glanced at Steve with wide eyes. His gaze begged for guidance-which Steve failed to provide. He simply squinted at Dustin as if to say, Figure it out for yourself.
The entire ordeal lasted about fifteen seconds. It was too long for Dustin to turn back to you with a tight-lipped smile plastered on his face as though nothing had just happened between them.
“The final course is-the dessert, uh-it’s a surprise.”
Out of the corner of your eye, you could have sworn you saw Steve offer a nod of approval.
“Okay...” You drew out the word as your mind jumped to every conclusion possible. “Is it a good surprise? Or is it, like, a somewhat-edible science experiment that might actually poison me?”
“Oh, no, no. It’s a good surprise. You’ll like it. I promise,” Dustin said. “I-uh-I’ll go get it,” he said, then disappeared once more.
“Steve, why did Dustin just head toward the bathroom? I swear, if he made Jell-O in the toilet or something, I’m going to lose it.”
Steve just shrugged. He avoided your gaze, and a few beads of sweat had broken out across his forehead. That pretty much solidified your suspicions that Steve and Dustin were pulling some weird sort of prank on you.
Dustin returned a few minutes later with yet another silver platter. (Seriously, where was he getting these things?) This time, though, there weren’t any noodles on the plate he unveiled. Instead, a small velvet box sat on the metal.
The next few seconds happened in a blur. You recalled Steve rising from his chair and reaching for the box. Then, suddenly, he was on one knee in front of you. The box opened like an oyster. Instead of a pearl, though, its treasure was a glimmering diamond ring.
Tears began clouding your vision before Steve’s lips even parted. As soon as he spotted the water in your eyes, Steve started to get choked up, too. He tried to power through, but his voice became more strained with each syllable.
“Y/N. These past few years with you have been the best of my life, and I never thought...shit." Steve blinked rapidly, attempting to clear away the tears. “I never want to spend my time with-with anyone else-damn it,” he murmured as a drop of water finally escaped his tear duct and rolled down his face. “I’m sorry, Y/N. I had this whole speech prepared, but now I’m a mess-”
You stopped his ranting by placing a gentle palm on his cheek and a kiss on his forehead. “It’s okay, sweetheart. I love you for the whole-ass mess you are.”
Steve leaned into your touch for a moment and whispered, “I love you, too, Y/N.” Then, he straightened up, cleared his throat, and softly asked, “Will you marry me?”
“Of course.”
Steve barely had the patience to slide the ring on your finger with his shaking hands before he picking you up and swinging you around. He kissed all over your face, and your happy tears mixed with his in a joyous saltwater solution.
The kiss fest didn’t end until Steve, caught up in all the excitement, accidentally pressed his lips to your nostrils. The two of you burst into a fit of giggles amplified by the ecstasy of the emotions you were feeling. Your hysteria lasted for several minutes and ended with you and Steve laying on the floor, lungs devoid of oxygen and limbs tangled together.
“Are you guys really that happy, or are you, like, on something?”
You both glanced toward Dustin, whose presence had completely slipped your mind. Luckily, Steve had a response ready. It was cheesy and cliche, but nothing could have fit the situation more perfectly:
“No, dude. We’re just high on life.”
Can I go where you go?
Can we always be this close forever and ever?
And ah, take me out, and take me home (Forever and ever)
You're my, my, my, my
Oh, you're my, my, my, my
Darling, you're my, my, my, my lover

(Context: accountability is being talked abt and threads with harmful stuff ccs other than Dream have said/done are being discussed)
The point of holding ccs accountable is so they are stopped or prevented from creating content or spreading harmful things across their large platform, correct? It’s so they acknowledge something wasn’t okay and will therefore not do it in the future, which will stop those bad things from being normalized, especially so it doesn’t reach an impressionable audience of kids and young teens. So I suppose my question is, what more can a cc do other than apologizing for past behavior, deleting any of the content that was harmful so it stops being spread to hurt more people, and then not repeating that mistake?
In my opinion (I’m poc but not bipoc), between the apologizing, deleting, and changing, apologizing is the least important factor. It should be done, absolutely, no doubt, it’s often owed but it means nothing if the other two aren’t done as well. The apology reaches less people than the initial harm will. More people know of a bad thing a cc has done than know of the apology for said bad thing. If all three are done, and people have chosen whether they are comfortable continuing to support that cc or not, I don’t see the use in dwelling on it anymore, because, at the end of the day, the initial harms impact has been stopped from spreading.
While I am mainly a Techno fan, I am disappointed by the fact that some of technos old tweets and videos are still up because of how accessible that makes them to an audience. I am disappointed by the fact that Quackity hasn’t deleted his old videos with harmful stuff even though he’s apologized for it. I can definitely tell they’ve both changed from like 3 or 4 years ago, but deleting the initial harm when you have the power to do so should also be important. The Videos especially because the YouTube audience is younger.
Thoughts?
I do agree that deleting old videos with bigoted jokes etc show the cc is changing, or at least, willing to change and is taking responsibility.
But I also feel like apologies aren't the least important bit? Like I do agree that it doesn't reach that many people anyway, like that's a fact but also.
If someone went out of their way to make harmful jokes to do hurtful things etc and it resurfaced or became relevant or even just happened, I feel like apologizing and actually showing the people hurt by said things you're mature enough to take responsibility by directly confronting the problem, confronting your past actions and actively speaking against them means a lot.
The only problem with that is that most of the time, YouTuber apologies or streamer apologies aren't genuine and are just done to get the heat off their backs or to get people to shut up about what happened.
Apologies aren't going to fix the harm done but they are important even if the people hurt by what happened don't accept the apology.
So yeah deleting the harmful content is a good step forward, but I still believe a good apology is needed most of the time
Also to answer your question, on top of doing a proper apology (after Genuine self reflection and actually understanding why what they did was wrong) deleting the content and not repeating said mistake, they could idk. Give money to charities that help the minorities that they hurt with their actions. They could hold specific days where they like and promote artists etc.
I'm not saying that they need to change their content completely, but maybe a little bit of support here and there to make up for their mistakes wouldn't be bad imo

WOW okay so this is a great example of the kinds of things people have been saying in response to this gifset that piss me the fuck off. Don’t thank me op, this is not what this was for. The edit was intended to point out the very obvious parallel between Catra and Glimmer that the writers put here and also show that Catra has a much harder time accepting responsibility for and correcting her mistakes. Which is a huge character flaw, yes, but there is a reason for it.
No seriously, I already wrote a whole fucking meta about why Catra literally doesn’t know how to change course/accept responsibility, partly in response to people saying things like this.
I obscured this person’s identity and I’m not gonna tag them because I don’t want to start a war, I just want to vent. Also, they are far from the first to say this kind of shit, so if they happen to read this they shouldn’t take this too personally - this has been irritating me for a while. But there were a few things in this set of tags in particular that really got to me, and I feel the need to respond.
a) No major character in this show is more oppressed than Catra. Maybe not like at this exact moment, but in terms of personal history. She grew up in a very oppressive, abusive environment, and she was abused more than anyone. That girl has been through hell and back for no good reason and there are implications here and there that some of it may have had to do her her species so like YIKES bro.
b) Glimmer is not oppressed? Her kingdom is at war but they are not and have never been occupied by the Horde, so that is definitely not the right word for it. Plus, Glimmer is incredibly privileged. She is royalty, rich, human, magical. Honestly she’s kind of a spoiled brat who in early seasons was incapable of understanding how her privilege has affected her rather black and white morality. She has good qualities too, of course, and she’s growing on me now that she’s gaining a bit of maturity and insight, and this isn’t an attack on her. But if you are saying Glimmer is oppressed in comparison to Catra I just vnrlk/gwlvrliiodlo
(I assume you’re actually trying to say there’s a difference between violence from the bad guys and violence from people fighting back, which is a valid opinion, but the wording here was shit. On top of that, there’s a difference between defending yourself and destroying the universe just to stop the bad guys, so I’m not sure that point stands. Any sane person would have tried to stop the destruction, so imo this comparison says way more about Catra’s mental state than Glimmer’s moral superiority.)
c) Catra has definitely behaved abusively towards Adora at times but tbh she also sees herself as a victim of abuse from Adora, which is inaccurate but somewhat understandable considering their childhood (see: Adora’s favored status and [unintentional] complicity in Catra’s abuse). Glimmer has absolutely no reason to see Adora as abusive, so of course she doesn’t act that way. If she did, it would be out of nowhere. I’m not saying Catra’s behavior is okay, just that in her mind she is the one fighting back against an unjust system that has oppressed her her entire life.
Anyway ugh. Anger makes me hungry so I’m gonna go have breakfast now.

While I don't want Falco to be fed to Mrs. Springer, I take issue with your negatively comparing Jean and Connie against Nicolo or Shadis. Nicolo is an honorary Braus because he dated Sasha, and he has assumed a caring role for the honorary/adopted Braus children. Shadis chose to be the leader of the Trainee Corps and has also assumed care for the trainees. To Jean and Connie, Falco is an enemy cadet and potential Warrior. Both sides use child soldiers. Feeding him to Mrs. Springer (1/3?)
would be entirely just within their world's rules of war. Would you also posthumously condemn Erwin for having fed class after class of recruits to the titans while protecting his friends? Also, I think you're extremely hard on the remaining 104thers by calling them "immature." They're 19, which might be an adult in our world but is still a very young, unfinished adult. They were all child soldiers fighting titans at 15, Mikasa and Armin have additional childhood trauma, and (2/3) Connie of course lost most of his family at 15 and his mom has been a semi-mindless titan for 4 years. IMO they're doing an incredible job trying to process the unprecedented events going on and handle them as best they can. (3/3)
Hey! I felt so disappointed in the 104th this chapter (124). Armin especially. Like, there is so much happening right now but he was more worried about keeping the peace with the warriors. I love Armin but since the time skip I think he's become non complacent maybe? As for Jean and Connie, talking about who to feed Falco to frankly pissed me off tbh. Same anon I know the general consensus in the fandom is that Jean was trying to make sense of the situation, but in my opinion, he was being a hypocrite. Like in chapter 108 he told Mikasa she's wrong for having trust in Eren and wanting to believe in Eren but now jean is the one doing what Mikasa did in 108. He's trying to justify Eren's actions. And Connie, I get his mother was turned into a mindless titan. Its traumatizing but that doesn't justify wanting to feed Falco to his mom. I'm sorry, but I'm ready to see Connie die. I felt so disappointed in the 104th. But I do think Mikasa had the best response. Which was no response at all. She no longer views Eren in an idealized light, so she doesn't justify Eren's actions because she knows eren has f***ed up. Mikasa was rather more concerned about Falco which I liked. I was ranting a little or maybe a lot? Lol. I'm sorry about that.
Hello anons!
I think your two asks can be used to comment each other, so I am answering the two of them together!
In short, I think that it is important to distinguish between two different ways of reading and relating to characters in a work of fiction.
The first one consists into seeing the characters as proper people, so different people would react to them differently according to their moral systems, triggers and personal tastes.
I think that both your reactions are rooted into this approach and you both show how it is possible to react to the same characters in almost opposite ways. I think that both your POVs are valid since the 104th’s actions in the latest chapter can be disappointing, but can also be understood if one considers their psychological state. In short, it is not wrong to be angry at them and it is not wrong to empathize with them.
The second approach is to simply consider them as characters aka as beings who are in a story for a specific reason. If snk were not a narrative, it would be understandable if our main casts simply chose to retire and to live happily. However, since we are in a story, it would be upsetting if Mikasa, Armin or Jean simply chose to leave the army and to work in the country-side, while the rest of the world is going to war. They would simply not be in the main plot anymore and I doubt this is what the readers would want when it comes to them. Similarly, it would have been realistic for Annie to simply stay in her crystal forever, but, since she is a character, readers were expecting her to eventually come out and if she didn’t, it would have been a let down.
My latest metas are talking about the 104th as characters and so I am comparing them to Shadis and to Nicolo not because I think these two are better people than them, but simply because the chapter suggests the comparison. The relationship between adults and children is a very important one throughout the series and the chapter explores it once again. To be more specific, the subplot of Shadis and the trainees and of Gabi, Nicolo and Kaya are clearly paralleled since the story jumps from one to the other. In both cases, there are children who risk to die and they are both saved by a person they hurt/tried to hurt (Shadis and Gabi). Finally Nicolo protects Gabi differently from what he did in the past and he repeats Mr Braus’s quote. That quote is about adults protecting children. Here, Nicolo is giving it a more general spin since he is talking about people in general. However, he is doing so to help Gabi and Kaya to understand their contradictive feelings. In short, he is trying to guide the two kids. This is different from what he did in chapter 111 and it is important because in chapter 112 he claims that he is not a man like Mr Braus is. Here, he is showing that he has grown and has matured and that he is trying to be a better person.
In short, both subplots are meant to show us a reconciliation and this reconciliation involves both adults and children growing into their respective roles.
Now, when it comes to the 104th, the story is asking them to grow up and there is no doubt about it. All in all, snk is a coming of age story where kids grow up and face the complexity of the world. This is made even clearer after the time-skip, since we are shown our main casts as young adults and a new generation has been introduced. In short, the 104th are not the kids of the series anymore and they will have soon to accept newer and more difficult roles. This is why the people from the old generation who have guided the main characters up until now are all slowly dying. We have seen it in this chapter as well with Pixis’s death.
Now, again if snk were real, there would be nothing bad with young teenagers not accepting the role of heroes or of leaders of their people, but snk is a story and so the characters must fulfill their role for it to work.
I would also say that I disagree with the first anon’s comparison between Erwin and Connie.
Erwin kept sacrificing comrades both to fulfill his dream and for the sake of his people. What is more, the series doesn’t completely justify these sacrifices and shows how tragic they were and how Erwin himself felt guilty about them. Erwin’s strategic choices might have been correct, but this didn’t make them easier to accept both by others and by Erwin himself. Finally, the tension of Erwin’s arc was between the ideal image he showed people where he was completely selfless and his true human self who was driven by personal dreams like everyone else. The pain of what he perceived as a contradiction was solved in him finally giving up his dream and choosing the common good over himself. This is what gave Erwin peace.
Connie’s situation is different. He wants to bring back his mother because of personal reasons and not because it is a good strategic choice from which everyone would benefit. If that were what Connie was going for, then it would have been better to accept Jean’s suggestion and to feed Falco to Pixis aka the commander. However, Connie’s wish to have his mother back has nothing to do with the current war and is simply a personal one. Connie acting selfishly is highlihgted also by him leaving his comrades and friends to face the titans alone while he leaves with Falco. Jean, Mikasa and Armin all try to fulfill their duty of soldiers, to save their comrades and to protect the civilians, but Connie simply leaves with a prisoner in order to save a loved one. His behaviour is understandable considering the fact that he has clearly been repressing a lot f negative feelings, but it is clearly not one I would call responsible.
That said, it is interesting to notice that his reasons are perfectly understood by Gabi:
Gabi doesn’t call Connie a monster and understands from where he is coming from because she herself is driven by similar feelings.
In short, I think the narrative is showing understanding for Connie, but his choice is clearly the wrong one and I don’t think he will go through with it.
I would also like to highlight that the current situation with Falco, Connie and Jean reminds me of the serum bowl which is even mentioned in the chapter:
Like back then, the MC have a prisoner they think to sacrifice in order to save another person and they are even fighting about whom they should save.
Jean argues that they should save the commander exactly like Levi, Hange and Floch did back then.
Connie is on the other hand arguing that they should save a loved one, like Mikasa and Eren did. Connie even lashes out at Armin who in the end was the one saved because of Levi’s personal feelings.
What is interesting is that in the serum bowl there was no-one vocing for Bertholdt being saved. At that time, sacrificing an enemy was something everyone had accepted and the problems was simply between making a pragmatic choice or a more personal one. However, right now Armin and probably Mikasa are not happy to kill a child and Gabi has come to bring Falco back. In short, I would not be surprised if the whole conflict around Falco would be solved in what is basically an inversion of the serum bowl. Neither a pragmatic nor a personal choice is made and the enemy is spared.
As far as the second anon is concerned, I have rambled about the 104th in many different asks, so I advise you to check the tag of the current chapter I will put under this ask as well in order to have more thoughts on them.
Thank you for the ask!

I love your theories and opinions! I really want to hear your thought on the relationsship between Abigail, John and Javier. RDR implies that Abigail and Javier were lovers before John came into play. How do you think Javier reacted? What about Jack, is he really John's son? If Javier really loved Abigail, isn't it weird that he hold such close friendship with John?
OK, related tangent: I think Dutch saying “we all had her” in RDR1 and claiming all the gang’s men had slept with Abigail isn’t true. It’s Dutch being an ass and trying to inflame John’s temper. This is Dutch going off what he remembers of 1899 John, who definitely was far touchier about the notion of Abigail having had other lovers (to the point of doubting Jack was his) and had his temper less under control. 1911 John Marston is a much different and more mature man, and he really doesn’t care about Abigail’s sexual past anyway, so he doesn’t rise to the bait.
Of the men we know were there in 1894, I think Dutch almost definitely slept with her. For him to say that, it strongly implies it. Plus we know he’s a ladies’ man (to put it politely) and it’s made clear in RDR2 that he prefers them young and pretty, and he can be pretty damn charming.
As discussed before, I don’t think Arthur slept with Abigail. Almost happened, but he backed out in a big damn hurry when he realized this was all caught up in his Mary/Eliza guilt and longing hellspiral. But the fact they never hooked up actually turned it into a much more profound brother/sister dynamic.
Hosea? Nah. Way, way too faithful to his memory and mourning of Bessie, and given Abigail calls him effectively her father, clearly that didn’t happen.
Bill? Maybe. I could see it going either way on that.
Javier? As I’ve said, I think it happened. Javier makes some knowing remark in RDR1 about “Say hi to Abigail for me” or the like. He seems like the type a 17-y-o Abigail might have gravitated towards. He’s good looking, well groomed, soft-spoken, idealistic, a dashingly tragic revolutionary.
So I do think they slept together. I’m not sure they were fully-fledged lovers in the romantic sense, because if they were, as you say, it would have made things really weird. My guess is that they had a whirlwind fling and they both enjoyed it and had fun, but it was mostly a good-natured sexual thing. Abigail was having fun and exploring her sexuality, Javier probably enjoyed being with a pretty girl who didn’t look down on him for being Mexican. They walked away from it as friends. That let Abigail strike up an actual romance with John.
As for Javier, he probably had an amused moment or two of “We both know what she’s like in bed, mi amigo,” but given the Javier we see in 1899 is a thoughtful and caring kind of guy compared to the disillusioned one of 1911, I don’t think he’d have used it to start shit with John. He’d have stepped out of the way and let Abigail be happy. Or, you know, as happy as she could be at that point with John being so immature. Sigh. :P
That let John and Javier keep the friendship, because Abigail didn’t become a point of contention. It’s actually Arthur and John where that’s the problem, though that’s all about Arthur holding John accountable as a husband and father, not romantic or sexual jealousy specifically about Abigail.
As to Jack’s paternity, that’s a YMMV. I personally tend to think he’s John’s son, particularly how he looks in 1914. Abigail seems very clearly certain that John is Jack’s father, and being the person who would know best who was sharing her bed at that time, Occam’s Razor, y'all. The simplest solution is often the correct one. It also seems like once she fell in love with John, it was monogamous. I suspect John threw the accusation of Jack not being his as a projection of his fears and ambiguity about fatherhood, as a way to try to duck some of the responsibility. Well, maybe he ain’t mine anyway.
I doubt he’s Dutch’s. I think that was a one or two time thing. Arthur has a fairly dickish Antagonize dialogue option on Abigail where he says he thinks Jack looks more like a Williamson or Escuella than a Marston. Interesting that he doesn’t imply that Jack looks like he could be a Morgan, which seems pretty positive proof that both he and Abigail know that’s an impossibility. (I’ve seen people remark on Jack’s light brown hair as a child as strong implication that he’s Arthur’s. That’s a red herring, IMO. Plenty of dark-haired people were much lighter as kids. I’m a dark brunette with two dark-haired parents who was virtually blond at age 4.)If you’re going for alternate parentage, Javier is probably the most likely option compared to how Jack’s looks in 1914, but again, I personally don’t see it. I think Abigail and Javier were done sleeping together before Jack’s conception.

TOKEN ERC: most common standards and implementation
Now that we know a little more about tokens, we are going to delve into another very important concept in Ethereum development which is ERCs, Ethereum Request for Comments.
The ERCs, Ethereum Request for Comments, are proposals generated by the community or the Ethereum developers themselves in order to promote this blockchain platform, generating interoperability in the ecosystem and facilitating the integration of these by applications that make use of tokens. standards medium. In turn, ERCs are nothing more than a type of EIP (Ethereum Improvement Proposal) at the application level, which to become standards must first go through consultation and review phases until they are approved.
Next we are going to discuss the main ERCs token standards that exist today:
ERC-20 Token
Currently, although its functionality is basic, it is the most widely used and most relevant standard due to its great interoperability in the environment.
Provide the methods of token transfer (transfer), approval or authorization of use of your tokens to another Ethereum address (profit), authorized token transfer from another Ethereum address (transferFrom), current balance query (balanceOf) and query of the amount of tokens possible to use on behalf of another Ethereum address (allowance). In addition, there are two types of events (Transfer and Approval) that are triggered when a transfer or approval is made.
To characterize the token, a value must be assigned to a series of attributes in the form of a variable. The only mandatory parameter is the number of total available tokens (totalSupply), the others such as the name (name), the symbol (sym) and the number of decimals (decimals) are optional, although important if you want to give more detail to your token and distinguish it from others. The number of decimal places offers the ability to subdivide a token unit into 18 decimal places.
But, where is the balance of each user who owns that token kept? Good question. To save the balances, a 'mapping' type variable is used, which relates an Ethereum address with its corresponding token balance: (mapping (Address => uint256) balances)
In the 'Etherscan' explorer you can check the number of existing tokens deployed in the main Ethereum network, as well as their value and more information. At the time of writing this article there were 125,699 ERC20 tokens. Probably when you look back at this number it has grown quite a bit, as new ones are being deployed every day.
ERC-721 Token
The ERC721 is the standard of NOT fungible token par excellence (called NFT, Non Fungible Tokens). The concept of "NO fungibility" comes to say that it is unique and cannot be replaced by another. Another characteristic resulting from the above is its indivisibility, since it remains as a singular unit, unlike the ERC20. It is therefore a non-consumable token, but it is exchangeable. It can represent anything from ownership of a work of art to a loan or a traffic ticket. An example of a non-fungible token could be the ownership of a house, since it is something unique and indivisible that when you transfer it to another person it becomes part of their property and you would stop owning it. The example of a fungible token would be money, where a monetary unit (for example, a € 1 coin) is equal and has the same value as another monetary unit (another € 1 coin).
Each ERC721 token is identified by a unique, non-modifiable ID (uint256, 256-byte integer), and an Ethereum address. It implements the ERC20 methods, attributes and events (name, symbol, totalSupply, balanceOf) in order to have compatibility between applications, even if it does not make the same use of them. For example, in the case of the decimal (decimals) attribute, it must correspond to a 0, since as we have mentioned it is an indivisible standard. In addition, it provides new methods such as the secure transfer of token (safeTransferFrom), previously verifying that the address that carries out the transfer is that of the owner of the token; property (ownerOf), to query the address to which the token belongs; or taking ownership of the token (takeOwnership), from an authorized address.
Other possible implementations to carry out can be to reject transfers if the contract is paused, create a list of safe or authorized addresses, reject non-secure transfers, charge the cost of the transaction to both parties, etc.
At the moment, its use is inferior to the ERC20, although it must be recognized that its future is very promising. In the 'Etherscan' explorer it can be seen that there are 262 ERC721 tokens deployed on the Ethereum mainnet.
The most popular application example using this ERC721 standard is CryptoKitties. It is a decentralized application that allows you to acquire, collect and exchange kittens, among other things. Although it seems like a silly game, the approach is really valuable, since for the first time you are the owner of a unique digital asset that you can trade with others in a decentralized way.
Other possible ERC token standards
In addition to the main ERC20 and ERC721 standards, there are others that are in the draft phase waiting to be approved or rejected. Let's see a summary of the most interesting:
Token ERC-777 - New Advanced Token Standard
It is an improvement of the ERC20 that incorporates more advanced functionalities such as:
• Implement a send function: send (to, amount, data), instead of the usual transfer function: transfer (to, amount).
• It allows to control and reject tokens sent / received by registering “hook” functions: tokensToSend (operator, from, to, amount, data, operatorData), tokensRecieved (operator, from, to, amount, data, operatorData). It is useful, for example, to give the sender or recipient the option to intervene in the transfer and even reject it.
• Incorporates the figure of “authorized operators”. It allows authorizing or revoking addresses of Smart Contracts or users to move tokens on behalf of the owner and create additional functionalities to the token: autorhizeOperator, revokeOperator
Token ERC-823 - Token Exchange Standard
Development of ERC20 that incorporates an exchange service facilitating cross payments of tokens. It allows the holder of an ERC20 token to exchange it with another ERC20 using an exchange token to make the transfers: exchangeToken (targetContract, amount). It implements variables of type “mapping” to relate: address and amount of the exchanged token (exchangedWith); address of the person initiating the exchange and the amount (exchangedBy); and the amount of tokens received and the address of the person who issued it (exchangesReceived).
Token ERC-918 - Mineable Token Standard
Minable token standard that uses the “Proof of Work” algorithm for its own distribution. The tokens are distributed following the IMO model, “Initial Mining Offering”, as if it were an ICO. Implement a mint () function that acts as a tap controlling the rate of token distribution and minimizing costs.
Token ERC-998 - Composable Non-Fungible Token Standard
Improvement of the ERC721 standard that allows a token to own or be owned by ERC721 and ERC20 tokens, so that they can have “child tokens” or “parent tokens” respectively. It allows to form property trees based on the relationship between each token as if it were a family tree.
ERC-1080 Token - Recoverable Token Standard
ERC20 standard development supports the return, theft prevention and recovery of tokens. Functions of the type must be implemented: claimLost (Address lostAccount), reportStolen (), chargeBack (uint256 pendingTransferNumber). All of them must return the success or failure of the operation as a response (boolean type).
How to implement my own tokens for applications
Creating a token is very simple, just use a template that implements any ERC standard and characterize it in your own way, but creating it to be efficient and secure is not so easy. In general, all standards are just a pattern or scheme to follow that needs to be shaped, and that is where the problem arises. For example, inside the transfer () function, you could develop malicious logic so that, for each transfer, an X amount of tokens is increased in your favor. You could also implement a token in a correct but vulnerable way, losing all balances or even causing the destruction of the token.
For all this, it is advisable to use resources such as Truffle or OpenZeppelin for the development of secure Smart Contracts. In the OpenZeppelin GitHub repository you will find examples of token implemented and ready to be used.
conclusion
