But don't you think in this article Amanda justify the end of Arcane by explaining that Jinx needed to leave so that Vi can move on and also because she wasn't able to put healthy boundaries with her little sister, that she failed to do so ?
Hi,
This is what she says:
Amanda Overton: You have to find something personal to you for every character and story that you write. Then, it’s like a compromise of many different creatives’ personal experiences that you combine into one plot. For each character, I get to say, “I put part of myself in that, this is the mother-daughter part, and this is the sibling part of me,” and so on. However, it’s too hard to choose between one of your children, is what I like to say. I can’t. Personally, in my adult life, finding a healthy boundary between a family member you love with all your heart, but whose relationship is not serving you, is something very difficult to do. Admittedly, I have failed at doing that before in my own adulthood. So, in showing these two sisters [Vi and Jinx] struggling with that, there is no right or easy answer. I think it’s okay to fail and make a mistake, and then have someone else help you through it. That’s really what resonated with me personally about Arcane. Over the course of Arcane‘s two seasons, numerous impactful emotional threads emerge. Watching it and experiencing all the emotional turmoil from the comfort of your home is one thing. Experiencing it first-hand through writing the story is something else entirely. Amanda Overton explains that the entire point of storytelling is to make it “difficult.” A close-up shot of sisters Vi, voiced by Hailee Steinfeld, and Jinx, voiced by Ella Purnell, standing side by side on the battle field in the final season of the animated Netflix series ARCANE. ‘Arcane’ Season 2 courtesy of Netflix Amanda Overton: You want to make their journey as difficult as possible, so that it means the most when you finally get to the end. It’s incredibly hard to put characters that you grow so close to, that you pour so much of yourself into, through such affliction. But the whole point of storytelling is to make that journey as challenging as possible. When character arcs are messy, there is no clear-cut answer. If everyone looks at their decisions and says, “Yep, they made the right choice,” you did your job wrong. I love the word Christian uses: chaotic. It shouldn’t be an obvious choice, because then you will surely think about it afterwards. The choices they make will linger in your mind. “Would I have done it differently? Would I have made the same choice?” Those are the questions you’ll be asking yourself after the show ends, and those will be the things that teach you about who you are as a person.
She is explaining what she was trying to convey with Jinx and Vi's arcs and how she approached them and I think you can see it in the story. She isn't specifically commenting on the ending or a specific scene, though, which checks cause it is really not an author's role to explain their story. They write the story and share it with the world, so that it can resonate differently with different people. She even lampshades this by saying she hopes people are interrogating themselves on the ending.
If you are asking if her words have changed or may change my opinion about Vi and Jinx's storyline, then nope. A story is a story and a commentary is a commentary. The ending of the sisters' story did not resonate with me and I shared my thoughts on why imo it doesn't work writing wise... nothing the author can say will change that. It doesn't mean the author is saying stupid or wrong things... I actually think the arcane writers are amazingly talented. I just do not like what they chose to do because to me it feels cheap. At the same time, I am sure nothing I say will change the fact that surely the ending resonated with many many people. And that's fair too.
Thank you for your ask!

hi! what do you think of this interview and what do you think of Amanda's arguments to justify the end of Arcane? : https://discussingfilm.net/2025/06/11/arcane-creators-netflix-interview/
Hi!
I read it quickly, but I don't think she is trying to justify the ending at all. Rather, she is explaining what she wanted to convey and why and I think it fits with the kind of story they wrote.
Thank you for the ask!

The saja boy’s represents a negative aspect of the K-Pop industry that K-Pop idols were victimized by: Abby symbolizes the oversexualization of K-Pop models, mystery references the pressure of hiding your identity and lack of privacy, romance symbolizes parasocial relationships between idols and fans, baby is based on infantization of K-Pop models. I appreciate the fact that the negative aspects of the K-pop industry are embodied in the form of idols. This is brilliant storytelling, a foil to huntrix.
The saja in the saja boys' name comes from the Jeoseung Saja, or the grim reaper. They are seen as peaceful in Korean culture for the saja boys are the exact opposite. In fact, they are a malevolent force.
Hi,
Yes, to both of these! I like how they mix traditional Korean culture with kpop when it comes to the characters. I also like the double meaning of the Saja Boys referencing both the grim reapers in what is a hint of their demonic nature and "lions" in juxtaposition to Huntrix. Huntrix are the hunters, while they are the beasts aka lions.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!

Pickle wiiiiiitch!!!!! This concludes my MIYC challenge/art series. Thank you everyone who has participated in the very first My Item Your Character challenge! Note, I don’t think I’ll do full series of 12 items like this again. It feels too rigid for me. It also kinda sucks when the theme doesn’t land because then I’m stuck with it for a month XD. It was a fun experiment though and I’m glad I took the chance and tried it ^^
