And then when Elrond returns all fine and he comes to Lindon and he's chosen the fate of the elves, Gil Galad's physically haunted by him again. See, but this time he chooses to be haunted by Elrond. Because I think he wants to fix what he sees as his first great failure by restoring a bright future for this kid which was robbed from him when Sirion fell--and it's probably like he wants better for him than what he got, too, because he got this kingship in exile thrust upon him when all he was doing was hanging out with Cirdan making ships or something with the other non-combatants and refugees like he and his mother who were fleeing war and violence and he was like fourth in line to the throne so he probably found out in one fell swoop that all his family's dead and oh, you're king and your destiny's out of your hands. So he's like, I'll make Elrond herald and give him all the experience and guidance on this leadership stuff I never got while also giving him better control of what kind of future he has. Then--get this--he never even marries or has kids and when his reign is coming to an end. . . Which, by the way, he probably foresaw his own death which is fucked-- because he gives Elrond his ring before the war of the last alliance, metaphorically making him his heir and also giving him the opportunity to shape his future. . .Yeah, yeah, cause Elrond wouldn't have been considered suitable to be a lord or a king or anything after he was raised by wolves the sons of Feanor. So when Gil made him herald it was like helping him gain political experience and any status he lost. So anyway, then Gil Galad dies, but in some ways he's spent a greater part of his life dedicated to the act of restoring Elrond to the path he should have been on in an alternate reality where he was raised as Earendil and Elwing's son and like correcting that first failure--but also changing Elrond's fate because Elrond has the ring, like, he literally has Gil Galad's legacy and power in his hands, something he wouldn't have had (or needed?) before. But he decides he won't be king. He'll use that power to guard the place that fulfills the legacies of both him and Gil Galad. He's rebuilt the home he lost, something Gil Galad was trying to give him, and then he makes it a place for all the orphans and the wounded and the refugees--like he even fosters a bunch of future orphan kings and like--

So do you guys actually think that Jason's entire story, relationship to the others, and philosophy amounts to him being a rebellious teen who wants his dad's attention? Like are you 100% serious? I thought you were joking about that but too many of you are saying it with your whole chest.

Bruce does love his kids, that doesn't mean that he hasn't hurt them. And I'd also argue that for the most part he feels in the right for it, and he's said multiple times that he believes it's for their own good, so you can't even argue that he's sorry about it. It's okay for you guys to admit that your PERSONAL INTERPRETATION of the character wouldn't do that but don't sit here and pretend that it's not a facet of the source.

This is a reminder to everyone who's excited about RDJ's casting as Doctor Doom that this casting is whitewashing. Victor Von Doom is a Romani character and has been a Romani character since his introduction in the 1960s. (Fantastic Four Annual #2 [1964]) Not only that, but his Roma identity and the persecution he and his family faced due to it is integral to his character, it is what forms his identity. (Books of Doom by Ed Brubaker) Even if on the off chance this casting is meant to not be Victor but instead be some variant of Tony or whomever else becoming Doctor Doom, it is damaging to the character to rob him of that important cultural background. Doctor Doom does not exist without that history. Fans have been pushing hard to cast Doom as a Romani actor for years, especially since the MCU has whitewashed other Romani characters. (Wanda, Pietro, etc) This casting is not a celebration moment, it's fucking heartbreaking that the MCU repeatedly ignores the important and nuanced cultural backstories of characters.

I know I can't change anybody's mind on whether or not you want to be excited about RDJ's return to the MCU. But I do think at the very least you should be mad that the MCU is baiting us all and destroying nuanced and interesting characters for the sake of self-referential easter eggs and nostalgia bait. Because that's what it is. Feel how you'd like to feel about RDJ's return, but personally, this is soul-sucking. I had such a deep love for the MCU as a teenager, it was obviously something incredibly formative to me, especially Tony Stark. This isn't recreating what I fell in love with the MCU for. This is turning a well-planned and artistic storyline of adaptations into cheap cash grabs and fan service. Because, I think we're past the point of being able to call the MCU an adaptation of anything. They can use existing characters' names and powers, but to say they're being properly adapted is laughable.

This is not an adaptation of Doctor Doom. This is RDJ the Electric Boogaloo because Marvel's fear of losing the interest of dedicated MCU fans overrides their willingness to tell stories that are genuine to the characters. I don't know what there is to be excited about that. The MCU has lost its authenticity and aside from a few projects, feels heartless. Every movie is a copy of a copy. This announcement isn't something celebratory, it feels like a death knell of a cinematic universe that's so desperate to cling to relevancy it's resorting to nostalgia for a character/actor who hasn't even been dead for a decade. We're not getting anything new, we're just rinsing and repeating the same song and dance.

I get it. I love Tony Stark, his death destroyed me and I to this day, rue the ending he got in Endgame. It misunderstood his arc and it robbed him of a satisfying conclusion. But the solution to that isn't dragging the corpse out of the grave five years later to whitewash an existing character with rich and interesting nuance, just to forcibly tie his existence in the MCU to Tony. Whether he is a variant or not. Why would you want someone else's fave's legacy to be destroyed simply so your fave's legacy can go on? Hell, if we were really all so hellbent on the return of RDJ and/or Tony to the MCU, we have the multiverse for a reason. There were other ways to do it that didn't whitewash and ruin someone else. This just. Isn't something to be happy about.

It might be a problem for like, maintenance reasons though. I don't think wine is particularly dangerous to robotic parts in any way—just as dangerous as water or soda or many other liquids—but if some of it isn't fully "processed" then it's probably gunking some stuff up internally. Maybe not to a fatal degree, but still to an annoying degree.

if you go into the notes on this post, or any of the other tumblr posts about it, or even this reddit thread about it, you will get so many people very patiently explaining how natural selection works and then explaining how it made these flowers look like birds (looking like a bird deters insects somehow! looking like a bird keeps other birds from eating you!) and i need you to know that every single one of these "explanations" is actually just that person spewing literal bullshit

those photos (and i want to stress that googling "magnolia bird" just returns the same 3-4 photos and NO reliable sources) look like birds to you. but please. use your brain before you go loudly posting your weird hypotheses like they are fact, because I'm not kidding about scammers on amazon piggybacking on this weird fixation on the bird flowers, so maybe we shouldn't all join hands repeat the asme type of misinfo on popular posts over and over. ignoring that the photos are probably fake or else are a very rare phenomenon based on other photos of yulan magnolias from actual websites that aren't 30% ad space (or lily magnolias-- no one can actually agree on what type of magnolia it IS).... do you personally know what challenges a magnolia faces and what might deter those challenges? do you actually know that looking like you have a flock of birds on you will deter insects, a benefit you only need during the time of the year that you are actively flowering for some reason? if the flowers are to keep other birds away, do you know what birds bother magnolia trees so bad they'd evolve a whole new flower morphology? can you confidently say these flowers look like birds to insects or other birds or anything but a bored human on pinterest? no! you can't! because you just made that up to sound smart on the internet!!

mimicry is a term used in ecology & evolution to describe a phenomenon in which an organism (the mimic) resembles another species (the model) to a third player in the game (the receiver), presumably as some sort of benefit to the mimic. (Note that the model and the receiver can be the same species, i.e. orchids mimicking female insects to trick male insects to pollinate them). there are some truly remarkable examples of mimicry out there, but note that the pretend armchair hypothesizing can't even point out a good model. the flowers look like birds..... what birds? can you show me an actual bird sitting in a magnolia tree that looks like the flower? who is the receiver? why is this receiver avoiding birds and what cues do they need to recognize something as a bird? do they think the flowers look like birds? how is it that these geniuses on reddit know all the answers but i can't find one single botanist talking about these incredible flowers??

OR maybe it's just that human brains evolved to be able to look for patterns and you are just seeing birds because evolution and life experience taught you to see them and i mean the photos are most likely fake anyway

EDIT: found some blossom photos that look kind of like the flower ones here-- you can see how these could be easily manipulated (by hand, clever angling by a photographer, and/or in editing software) to look like birds

EDIT OF THE EDIT: at least a couple of the photos being passed around seem like they might come from here? at least this is the oldest place I've found them posted, and the writer claims they took the photos themselves. note that both these sources are chinese news sites, which i don't know enough about to assess reliability (but which i will take over a rando clickbait website)
