A snapshot of one morning, on a relaxed day with mild weather. Now imagine this when it's crowded or when it's raining or snowing.
Video description: POV from the lap of a wheelchair user. Very shaky. OP is going downhill on a fall day. Lots of trees and fallen leaves around. There are construction trucks to the left in the very beginning. Every now and then, you can see a German Shepherd on the left. Second obstacle shows a food robot crossing the sidewalk to drive in front of OP, but it stops suddenly and OP crashes into it. OP continues down the hill until she reaches another food robot, which is obstacle 3. This robot sits in the middle of the sidewalk while OP navigates around it. Then OP comes to a concrete ramp with iron railings, which is obstacle 3.5. It is very steep. After the ramp, OP goes to cross the street, where a black SUV blows through the crosswalk. Obstacle 4 is a ramp with red brick. OP struggles to move up and pauses at one point before continuing again to obstacle 5, where there is a big concrete building and manual doors. The German Shepherd service dog goes up to push the accessibility button multiple times to no avail. A student comes and opens the door, OP enters through two sets of doors into a hallway. Clip change to obstacle 6, OP is wheeling down a hallway and approaches a white elevator with out of order signs.
End of description.

Is there anyone with a service dog I can talk to??
I know what a dog can do to help me, I know a good breeder, I know where and how to get the dog trained and I know my rights.
I know I could and would care for the dog with all my being, even on flare days I know I could manage to give them enrichment time if I’m unable to give them a walk and have people around me who would be happy to help out if needed.
What I need to wrap my head around is, am I bad enough for a service dog?

My mother and I are getting a dog (yay!) for free (even more yay because we cannot afford to buy a couple thousand dollar labradoodle rn) and so because of this I'm looking into how to train her to help me with my wheelchair and basically act as a service animal while training her myself to the best of my (and my mother's) abilities.
Anyways, does anyone have good Youtube channels on how to train dogs to wait at curbs, push open doors, etc? We're looking right now but figured it might be a good idea to ask for help.
Also the dog's name is Nala! She's a 3 year old labradoodle and we get her on Thursday. Will upload pictures and updates of how our cats react lol.

So... big suprise!
The municipality is funding me a lightweight wheelchair!
I did not expect that at all, but it's progressing pretty fast and I am about to be called for a fitting and selection process to find the right wheelchair for me.
I'm kinda hoping I get a completely custom-made and fitted one, but will also be incredibly grateful with a more standard (and cheaper) wheelchair. Honestly the fact that I won't have to buy one myself saves me like 400 - 500 bucks. So win!
No news on the adjusted living space yet.
But the news for the PTSD service dog is carefully hopeful?? It's no longer no, but maybe.
So, progress!

okay i love that you made a haurchefant lives au where he survives the unsurvivable unhealable attack. genuinely i love to see it, i love him and miss him and think the "if he lived it would ruin the timeline" thing is stupid as hell. (like, narratively i had made peace with his death, that part is as okay as it can be to me, but then they come up with this cop out "no fun allowed, he Has to die" bullshit come ON thats stupid AND defeats the true tragedy of his death shut UP.)
anyways, thats beside the point, my real question is why is he never disabled though (an obvious question with an obvious answer, but so many people do not even bother asking lmao). like. in these aus i see him either miraculously fully healed or with a bitchin scar. and that scar is oftentimes huge and RIGHT over his spine??? hello. why is he never disabled. why does that seem like a fate as bad as or worse than death to so many of you.

If you put a fake service dog vest on a non-trained, unneeded, non service animal to be able to ‘take them places’, FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
YOU ARE MAKING PLACES INACCESSIBLE FOR DISABLED PEOPLE THAT NEED SERVICE ANIMALS JUST BECAUSE YOUR BITCHASS FEELS ENTITLED TO BRING YOUR DOG EVERYWHERE!
not to mention, this can interfere with actual trained service animals!! If your fake “service” dog is barking at an actual trained dog, it can distract the dog! For people who need service dogs as alert animals, or mobility, it can fuck up the dogs ability to perform the task(s) it needs to!

We’re having a rough day here, today.
Dog-in-law (The Boi & hir partner’s dog) is upstairs with us. To avoid further issues (they’re still in the introducing phase as he’s hyper & has anxiety) he’s staying in a crate up here. To get HIM into the crate, we had Tink & Kaiju (Kaiju knows dog in law very well) closed up in my room with me.
When I used command to sit-stay and opened the door to my bedroom, Tink body-slammed me into the door trying - and eventually succeeding - to get out ahead of me by pushing me aside & squeezing between me and the worktop counters.
She and Kaiju (who failed by following) were taken BACK to the room, closed in, and run through sit-stay while I leave & come back multiple times.
Once released, they of course swarmed the crate. Redirected to go outside, they’re now both settled and asleep.
Not me. I’m shaking from the adrenaline of almost falling, the muscle lockup of trying (failing) to restrain an animal that’s rushed hard enough to knock me sideways, and the panic of the whole situation.
I’ll have to medicate doubly today, as I can already feel the warning markers of a seizure going down my shoulder and neck. I can hardly stand up to care for myself because my legs are so shaky.
This is what ambulatory disability looks like when you’re training your own service animals. We have awesome days where Tink just GETS IT immediately and is vocal in how much joy it gives her that she got it right. And we have days where we take damage - physical, psychological, mental, emotional - and have to struggle to keep upright.
Editing to add pics of Tink

From Hospital to Home: Navigating After Surgery Transportation
Several transportation options are available in Florida for patients after surgery, including wheelchair transportation, stretcher transportation, and ambulatory transportation. Wheelchair transportation services are ideal for those with mobility issues, while stretcher transportation is suitable for patients who require a more comfortable and supportive ride. Ambulatory transportation is ideal for patients who can walk or require minimal assistance.

Hey! So I’m a fairly new ambulatory wheelchair user with EDS writing about a character who is also an ambulatory wheelchair user. I feel like I keep using the same words over and over to portray movement though (rolled, propelled, “pushed themself,” etc) so I would love to hear if you have any more ideas for alternatives! I’ll take as many as you’ve got!
Thank you!!!
Hello dearest asker!
This is the list that we have provided over time plus others:
Moved/Moves
Went
Wheeled
Rolled
Pushed
Sped/Spun
Propelled
Pulled (by a service animal etc)
Maneuvered
Turn/Turned
Scoot/scooted
Travel/traveled
Rock/rocked
Drove
Crossed
Cut
Stroll/Strolled
Navigated
Drift/Drifted
Swung/swinged
Popped ("Popped up their wheels/chair" to get over a surface etc)
Tip/tipped (Tipped themselves over something etc)
Advanced
Migrate/migrated
Inched
Zoomed
Rushed
Hurried
Raced
Skid
Ram/Rammed
Roamed
Shift/Shifted
Slid (In rainy or icy weather)
Followed
Circled
And a lot of many other verbs that would take me a long time to list! Consider what type of wheelchair the person has, as mention Here. And also how the person moves or places their hands can be another detail to include.
If the actual definition of the verb doesn't involve the specific actions of one or two lower extremities (ex. walk, run, stepped, trot, stride) then it's otherwise good to use! Other words like Moseyed, sauntered, paced, I think depends on the writer. A particularly mischievous character may saunter of a manner in their wheelchair. And a character who is nervous would pace—although possibly tiring—back and forth. And Moseyed, well, I just particularly like this word—but, a character could mosey on by in a certain fashion. Happy writing!
(last ask about verb terminology on wheelchairs per this post we made about it)
