So I though, mh, probably a noxian spy to check on Vi and Caitlyn. Not one we should trust. I mean I was unfortunately spoiled that Ambessa was behind the attack at the memorial so when I saw this:

I was like "AHA for sure you are working with them!" Right place, right time, with a shield non the less. (he did seem nice with what little we saw of him but I did not trust him because I thought he was a SPY)

But then,

BUT THEN,

Ambessa does her crazy stunt appointing Cait as a general and HE'S NOT HAPPY.

He did not leave when Vi left so I guess she was not his priority but the moment Cait ascend to general he dips out.

Also why did they immediately put him on the squad? He literally deank in the street the whole night with Vi when they introduced him to us. What made them go "Ah yes, enforcer materials to go on a super important mission." Like WHY.

As for the rowdy ruff boys.

The idea that townsville saw the boys and their rampant destruction and had almost the same exact reaction they had to the girls when they first appeared means everything to me.

Those five year old boys were exploded, killed in a very childlike, haha cooties way that almost distracts from the fact that 3 children died and went to hell.

Post their resurrection, the boys are on their own again. It’s not as if mojo jojo is parenting them. I seriously doubt that Him is doing all that much to care for them either.

In most scenes with the boys they don’t really seem to have a home. Which makes me wonder, where do they sleep? Who is deciding what they eat? I’m assuming despite the fact they are the same age, brick is the leader who is making these decisions.

Sure it should be fine, he’s got superpowers, how hard can it be? Does anyone actually think superpowers magically gives you the thought process to properly care for yourself and your siblings?

I imagine they often found themselves crashing into abandoned buildings to avoid a ppg visit and eating stolen candy, getting sick from it, getting dehydrated and not realized it as kids do. I imagine brick being confused many times in how to handle caring for their needs. I like to think this probably made him really anxious. As he grows up, being the disciplinarian of his brothers, their sort of provider in a way, he ends up feeling isolated from them and from others with a natural distrust of adults and authority.

His brothers, although sort of abused kids, on some level still get to be kids. Brick is left with some major baggage that he does not have the strength or the knowledge to tackle it.

The boys, particularly Butch who I imagine takes the brunt of “punishment” from his brother ends up feeling this sense of resentment festering into something like hatred. Not hatred exactly but the same feeling one would get with a father who wasn’t there for them properly or was too harsh or cruel. Butch wouldn’t have words for it, he wouldn’t understand why he’s so angry and maybe just thinks he’s jealous that brick makes all the decisions. Butch has daddy issues with his brother who is the same age and I think even if he realized that’s what it was, I don’t think he could admit that.

Brick on the other hand would have pent up guilt and a fierce denial that he did anything wrong. (He did his best and it should be enough) he wouldn’t be able to face the idea that he hurt the only people he can consider his family.

Personally I would love to see more complex content on the dynamics between the rowdy ruff boys. They fascinate me endlessly and I may or may not have a self insert child psychologist who stalks them.

Episode 4x09 of Smallville was genuinely so confusing. Not only was the cold open so traumatizing but then the moral gymnastics that happens for the rest of the episode (and onward) is so confounding.

So the whole premise of the episode is that Lex sleeps around so much that he can’t even remember the names and faces of the women he sleeps with. Strange and concerning on multiple levels. Even if this was completely in character (which I don’t think it is), it is still highly concerning to forget the names and faces of people you’ve been intimate with. I think they said 13 women in the last year. While that’s not a low number, I don’t think it’s high enough to cause such forgetfulness. Therefore it almost seems to imply that there’s a level of disassociation that happens on Lex’s part during the experience (you can’t form new memories if you weren’t really paying attention when they happened). This theory is also backed up by the fact that Lex admits at the end of the episode that he has suicidal thoughts, and (very) unattached sex could be a negative coping mechanism for these dark emotions. As we can see at the start of the episode, Lex looks sad and completely alone at the event. And immediately after that he jumps into bed with someone. There’s clearly a connection there (at least in my mind).

All of the above, however, is not what confuses me. It’s the other characters that I don’t understand. First you have Clark who comes in (as seems to be becoming his pattern) guns blazing and accusatory. Of course this might be warranted seeing as Lex has been quite soundly framed for murder but I digress. During their talk and with what he finds out later, Clark gets very up in arms about Lex having sex with a lot of women. Despite whether this is right or wrong of him to do, it makes absolutely no sense for why it would drive Clark into LIONEL’S arms. Especially bc Lionel admits later on that Lex learned the behavior (sleeping with women and leaving them with a pair of diamond earrings) from Lionel himself?? Like it’s bad and dishonest if Lex does it but apparently makes Lionel trustworthy?? I’m confused. Also! Let’s not forget the fact that Lionel slept with another woman while his wife was DYING! But sure, Lex is the sexually deviant one. Sure.

Also, I feel like there is a lot of disconnect between how Lex and Alicia (in later episodes) are treated. Like Lex sleeps with women (consensually) and almost gets killed by one of them and Clark tells him that he doesn’t know if he can trust him anymore. Alicia forces Clark to marry her and almost forces him to have sex with her (read: non-consensual!) and the next episode she and Clark are dating again. Also, Lex gets framed for murder and when he’s found innocent, Clark rescues him, yes, but at the end of the day he still doesn’t trust Lex. Alicia gets framed for murder and is found innocent (and dies, unfortunately (seriously that was such a shocking death what the hell Smallville?!)) and Clark feels guilty and regretful and tells his parents he wishes he believed her sooner. Now I get that these two situations aren’t quite the same but the different reactions that Clark and the other characters have feel more like the writers playing into future roles (Lex is the villain, yada, yada) rather than actually looking at the characters as they are now.

I think I would have enjoyed the episode more if I’d understood what it was trying to say. Are you trying to say that Lex is “showing a different, darker side of himself” by not caring about the women he sleeps with? Okay then why is it okay for Lionel to do. Are you trying to say that sex in general is bad? Then why have Alicia be forgiven? Why have Lana trying to loose her virginity to Jason? In the end, the episode just left me feeling really frustrated bc I felt like there was something I was supposed to get but I just didn’t get it.

Thinking about the Curtis parents. How they are true outliers. They’re kind and loving. They’re a rarity, especially on the east side. But they love their kids. And they love all of their extra kids too. But they also love each other. They’re happy. They don’t ever really stop and appreciate that, until one night when they did.

It was mid-summer. Darrel was out playing football with all the kids. Darry was 18, Soda was 14, Pony was 12. Everyone else was there too, and they’d divided themselves up into teams (they’d then rearranged themselves when Pony and Soda complained that the teams were unfair). Darry was with Pony, Johnny, and Dally. Darrel was with Soda, Steve, and Two Bit. Eventually, their high energy game died down and they all just kinda sat together. That was, until Pony started instigating Steve and then was being chased and tossed around. Darrel took this as his sign to leave and check in with his wife.

So he’d climbed up the porch steps, only to be met with her leaning on the doorframe, a gentle smile on her face. So he’d kissed her lips then her cheek then moved so he was standing behind her, with his arms around her. She’d smiled and leaned her head back against his shoulder. They stayed like that for a while, watching their boys run around. Darry had picked up Pony and was running around his him on his back while Two Bit started tackling Soda and Steve. Johnny was sitting quietly with Dally, an occasional laugh slipping out of his mouth. Dally, was almost the opposite, yelling out to everyone constantly, but even he had a smile on his face. Darrel was so caught up in watching the joy of his family that he hadn’t even heard his wife. So she quietly repeated herself, “we did pretty good, didn’t we?” And to that, he could only smile at her a respond, “yeah, yeah we did”. Because they did.

They were scared at first, because they’d been 18, dating for two years, and suddenly they had a baby on the way. But they knew they were it for each other. So they made it work. They got married, Darrel got a job, and they found a small home. But the minute Darry was born, they knew it was the best decision they had ever made. They made sure they created a safe place for everyone. So here they were, now 36, and they had a big family. Maybe they weren’t all blood, but they were family. And they wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world. Maybe they weren’t rich, maybe they couldn’t afford a fancy car or a madras shirt, but they were happy.

So they stood there, on their small front porch with the creaky boards, watching their kids mess around. They watched the joy on their faces, and they were proud. Proud of Darry for working hard and getting to college, proud of Soda for his joy, proud of Pony for his passion, proud of Johnny for his lovingness, proud of Dally for opening up to them, proud of Steve for coming to them if he didn’t feel safe, proud of Two Bit for the laughter and light he carried, and they were proud of themselves. Proud of their family and proud of the life they created together.

Y'all remember when I talked about writing a fic where everyone Alastor loves either dies or leaves him and it's all his fault? Well I changed some of the backstory details and he's not gonna be a rumrunner in this au anymore, but I might actually keep writing it.

Plus I've been listening to We Are the Dirt songs so trust it's gonna be a bad time.
