What's happening with Theo Solomon is so, so frustrating and needless and disgusting (more info can be found at this post), and I also want to acknowledge the treatment of Wyll's original voice/mo-cap actor, Lanre Malaolu.
Malaolu gave an excellent performance! His delivery and the way he incorporated mannerisms and posture into Wyll's physicality was amazing. The original characterization of Wyll was written very well and matched the general tone of the wider party/narrative.
And to suddenly have Larian, years into the project, rewrite the character entirely and then re-cast it? To have other actors talk about how Wyll just 'wasn't working' as a character? All because of fan criticism that places ridiculous (and often contradictory) standards and expectations on black characters. Even if the re-cast resulted from scheduling conflicts (as Malaolu couldn't come in to re-record), we lost Malaolu's entire performance because of a rewrite that was simply not necessary.
And after disregarding Malaolu's years of work into this character, the same criticisms that Larian caved into are thrown at Wyll's rewrite, and the same disregard is being seen with Theo Solomon again and again. As someone who started playing early access when it first came out, fans' treatment of Wyll and his actors hasn't gotten better. It's actively gotten worse.

right so you guys ever think about the spectre telling the narrator that hes more similar to her than to a person?
what "her" was she referring to? the fragment we call the spectre? the way he can only be perceived, not perceive himself? the ghost of him, the ghost of her? all of her?
im just. thinking. i always think about spectre. she has. a lot to say that i think is overlooked in favor of more common favorite routes like moment of clarity and the tower, but shes one of my favorites, and shes one of the only ones who SEES the narrator, save for wraith, who is. also her. or nightmare. and she says that hes not really a person. like her.
of course, that makes sense, we think shes a ghost and dead, so she is. but him. is the echo a ghost in the classical sense? is that what she meant? or are there layers?
she says he's not really like a person. what is a person to her? is she comparing the narrator to the "shards of broken glass on the floor" are her interactions with us and the voices the only "person" she knows?
i love love love when this game separates the narrator from us and our voices. i love it so much i think about it daily. props to tower for "layer of grime" that fucks so hard.
i don't have a thesis im just. thinking. how much of the narrator is left. really.

i just woke up so i haven't actually watched the pokemon direct thingy yet, but i heard they mentioned they aren't pushing out another console release at all for 2024 and if that's true then frankly THAT news is way more hype than any actual game announcement could ever be. go girl let us wait!! this is genuinely what i've been begging for for years now
like, oh a new Legends game? that's neat i guess. oh wait it's being given literally ANY time to cook and they aren't crunching Game Freak to hell and back in order to pump out a bunch of half-baked annual releases for the first time in ages?? NOW we're fuckin talking. LOVE to see the torturous cycle broken

Okay guys so I know we all lightly tease Charles for seemingly never actually thinking through any of the emotions he ever has but it occurred to me, what if he has alexithymia?!? Between his very obvious ADHD and his apparent lack of ever addressing how he feels, alexithymia would explain a lot actually. I mean even in hell he's saying he needs more time to process how he feels and basically wants to NOT have to think about it in the moment on the stairs. Like that boy has alexithymia. He needs his reflective time Edwin, give him time.
Also also like he never wants to talk about himself, only address other's needs and feelings which is just so alexithymia?? I mean I know it's partly his trauma response but also it's such an alexithymia personality trait too. Alexithymia makes every choice he makes make sooooo much more sense. That and the adhd impulsivity, but it didn't really feel like it was the whole picture. Alexithymia was the missing key

as much as i hate the fact that we cant let wyll make his own choice to break the pact or not when we can do so for pretty much every other huge origin choice, i kind of get why - because from what we know of wyll as a character, i really dont think he would ever make the decision to break the pact on his own. he hates mizora (understandably) and wants to be free of her (extremely understandably), but we also know about his insanely selfless, self-sacrificing tendencies. i love him dearly but i have serious doubts this man would ever knowingly sacrifice his father, no matter how much of a dick the guy is.
theres the argument of “but he must know his father would never want him to pact himself for eternity for his sake!!” but like. one, ulder wrote him off the moment he came home and saw him with a devil. that much is clear from wylls own testament and the things he says after you save him. two, even if that were the case, i doubt wyll would consider that perspective. because all he hears is “give away your soul to save a life” which is exactly what he did when he was seventeen.
is it an objectively bad decision? yes. have i made it repeatedly? yes, because of the points above and the fact that i think its the most in character decision for him, even if it makes me sad (wyll origin run is gonna be fun. and emotionally destroy me). do i still think we should be able to let him make his own decision? yeah, even if it means watching him sign his soul away again, because i think that happening 9 times out of 10 would really be a testament to what kind of character he is. tldr im at my limit and wyll ravengard makes me so fucking sad.

Bapping you. Mind if I ask what got you into comics??? Partially bc curious + you have good taste, even if I'm probably biased
I'm so serious when i tell you Who's to Say
The thing about me is that im totally normal one day and then suddenly an interest will be activated in my brain with no warning. There's a pattern to it once im stuck in an interest too, where I'll start off being a fan one one character for a decent amount of time and then overnight I'll switch to another for no reason at all. It happened with DC, it happened with Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, it happened with TMNT (though this was an iteration switch not character lol), it happened before that, and it'll happen again. The only exception to this i can think of is spider noir but there's like.. 5 characters who are all friends/in close relation so. If you're talking about one of them you're talking about the others too lol.
If i think really far back, I first got into comics in elementary school, but it was a very casual, short lived thing. I was actually really into captain america? But comics were confusing to me then so I didn't stick it out very long. I did watch a lot of x-men and marvel movies when I was younger too, but nothing crazy to note fan-wise beyond like..... sometimes roleplaying x-men on forums in middle school LOL. I got back into comics in high school, and by comics i mean 1 (one) spider noir. Spiderverse came out and boom. Mr. Dark and Emo had me in his clutches. I became a noir scholar right then and there, with much help from HopelesslyLost.
I was very content with that being my comic experience until pretty recently. Maybe 5-6 months ago? This is going to sound insane but i swear DC got to me this past year through subliminal messaging. Once I became lowkey obsessed overnight I started noticing a lot of DC stuff id unknowingly consumed on pinterest and tiktok LMAO.
I wish I had a real answer beyond I am at the mercy of some unknown force bewitching me every so often. I hope this... helps? answers your question?
