When Oppression Metaphors Go Bad: A Case Study of X-Men
X-Men has always been a metaphor for oppression. Most commonly in the early comics, mutants and their fight for acceptance was a metaphor for the Civil Rights movement. More modern media uses the mutants as a stand in for the LGBT+ community facing homophobia. And this is all well and good…..except…. Well. The super powers muck it up.
