sure, "I'm part of this marginalized group that I'm writing about" isn't a get out of jail free card for all bigotry, but if someone says "I'm portraying an exact experience I've had, this literally happened to me" and your response is "okayyy but think of the optics of showing that that happens? maybe keep that to yourself?" it might be time to reconsider your approach.

James Buchanan Barnes, who actually suffers from long term affects of the chair. Bucky Barnes, who struggles with names. Bucky, who can only properly remember Steve's name.
Bucky, who called Tony Bologna on accident, because he knows it's a word but doesn't know what it means sometimes, and it sounds like Tony. Or macaroni, which results in the Avengers giving him funny nicknames because no one wants Bucky to feel bad about it.
Bucky, who calls Sam Ham, or Pam depending on the day. Sam, who laughs and corrects him softly, he doesn't really care much and he answers to either as long as Bucky is saying it.
Bucky, who calls all of the Avengers some slightly to the left version of their actually names, but none of the Avengers, besides Tony, can really bring them selves to be mad because Bucky at the end of the day is remembering.

A LOVE BETWEEN WORLDS— frost giant! loki laufeyson x pregnant! wife! reader
WARNINGS: pregnancy
Tumblr media
Loki, the Frost Giant, towered over his wife, Y/N, his glowing blue skin faintly shimmering in the dim light of their shared chamber. The large stone walls of their home seemed to hum with a cold, eerie energy, a reflection of Loki’s origins as a being of ice and frost. But despite the stark contrast of their worlds, the love between them had always been their bridge—a bridge that had grown even more fragile with time.
Y/N, now carrying their child, had never felt more aware of the distance between them. The pregnancy had come with its own challenges—morning sickness, fatigue, and the swelling discomforts that came with growing a new life. But being married to a god—an ancient, towering being—had its own particular difficulties.
Loki, though loving and devoted, was unaware of how to navigate the fragility of her body in comparison to his. As much as he wished to keep her safe, his larger-than-life form often made the simplest of interactions feel as though they were fraught with risk.
“Y/N, are you certain you’re comfortable?” Loki’s voice was low, rumbling through the chamber like a storm on the horizon. His concern was evident, but so was his frustration. His hand hovered near her as she sat on their bed, but he was hesitant, afraid that even the softest of touches might be too much for her.
Y/N smiled softly, resting her hand over her rounded belly, feeling the little one shift inside her. She was used to his anxiety, but there was no escaping the truth. Their differences had become more pronounced since the pregnancy. She felt tiny beside him, like a human who might break under the weight of the world he carried, and Loki constantly seemed to battle with his immense strength and gentleness.
“I’m fine,” she reassured him, though the warmth in her voice couldn’t fully mask the strain she felt in her bones. “I just need you to be careful, Loki. You’re so… big. You have no idea how easy it is for me to feel overwhelmed by your presence.”
His shoulders stiffened, and for a moment, the ice in his heart flickered with regret. He knelt beside her, his massive form folding down with great care as he lowered himself to her eye level. His blue eyes, the color of glaciers, softened as they met hers.
“I don’t wish to overwhelm you,” Loki murmured, his voice almost pleading. “But everything about you is so… fragile in my eyes. And yet, you carry something stronger than even I could imagine. It is this child that frightens me, Y/N.”
Y/N’s hand reached out to stroke his cool cheek, the chill of his skin a sharp contrast to the warmth of her touch. She had long grown accustomed to the sensation, though it never ceased to be odd. His heart beat with the slow rhythm of time itself, but hers raced with the urgency of life.
“I know you worry,” she said softly, her thumb tracing along the sharp planes of his jawline. “But it’s not just me you have to be cautious with. Our baby is inside me—fragile as I am. I need you to remember that.”
Loki nodded, and his large hand gently settled on her belly, careful not to press too hard. He could feel the flutter of the child beneath his palm, and a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. “I would never forgive myself if I harmed either of you.”
“You don’t need to worry so much,” she whispered, leaning her forehead gently against his. “We’ll be alright. We just have to learn how to exist in this world together. Slowly, step by step.”
Loki gazed down at her with a sadness that spoke of centuries of regret. His people, his world, and the space between them had been marked by war, suffering, and loss. To have something as fragile as Y/N—something that he cherished more than his own life—made him terrified. Every movement, every touch, seemed dangerous.
As Y/N leaned back, her body aching from the strain of the pregnancy, she felt an overwhelming wave of exhaustion. Loki quickly caught her before she could fall, his massive form enveloping hers. His arms were powerful, but his movements were slow, careful, as if he feared that one wrong move would shatter everything between them.
“You are so precious to me,” he muttered, pulling her closer. “I will never understand how someone like me could have been blessed with someone as beautiful and as gentle as you.”
Y/N rested her head against his broad chest, the warmth of his heartbeat reverberating through her. It was odd, she thought, that she could feel so small and so protected in the arms of a being whose very presence seemed to break the air around them. But love was a strange thing, especially when it bridged such different worlds.
“I love you, Loki,” she whispered, her voice tired but filled with tenderness. “We’ll figure it out. We always do.”
Loki pressed a kiss to her forehead, his lips cold but gentle against her skin. He knew that despite the difficulties they faced, the love they shared would be their strength. And as the days passed and their child grew within her, they would face the challenges together—not as two beings from different realms, but as a family.
And, for the first time in a long while, Loki felt that maybe, just maybe, the weight of his ice-cold world could be softened by the warmth of her love.
