Wen Chao = Wei Wuxian MUST be thrown the burial mounds by you/Wen Chao and the Jiang's must be killed.

Jiang Yanli = Sacrificing yourself to save Wei Wuxian is something you must do. ( Going to the battlefield where she died. ) [ Hint: bring a sword instead of going weaponless like the canon and learn to use it. Might help :) ]

Wen Qing = you will still have to do the golden core removal to wei wuxian. You must also turn yourself in to the Jin's.

Two completely opposite people, yet everyone saw them together most of the time during Gusu Lectures. No one knew of how Wei Wuxian was able to befriend the ice queen, not even her brothers knew... Well except Lan Xichen, but she made him promise that he didn't tell their little brother. And he's kept that promise, even to this day of how Wei Wuxian was in Mo Xuanyu's body. Lan Y/N could instantly tell it was her beloved. He wasn't able to fool her that easily.

So when Lan Wangji brought Wei Wuxian to Gusu those first few nights, you decided to have Wei Ying sleep in your palace because it made more sense then have him room with your brother. Mo Xuanyu was known for being gay so wouldn't him rooming with a woman be the best way so he's behaved? Everyone in Gusu thought so, especially Wei Wuxian.

"Wei Wuxian! The fact that you now come back here after all these years and yet decided to hide from me is shameful!" You yelled at him and pushed him onto your mat while the male looked flustered and chuckled softly. "Y/N..I know I shouldn't have."

"Oh that's definitely an understatement, Mr. Lazou. For leaving me alone these past 13 years, you will take all of my brunt." You smirked as you pulled his robes off. He looked a bit excited from your sudden change of attitude but he should of expected it. He left you alone for 13 years, he would definitely be pent up as well after finding out that his loved one was alive.

You used your Lan forehead ribbon and tied Wei Wuxian's hands up with it tight as you were on top of him. "Wow Mommy~... You better hope your brothers don't try to come in..." He teased you a bit while watching you take your robes off, getting back on top of him and wrapping your hand around his neck. "They won't. “Hm… hm, hm, hm…”

Hand on your chin and another on your hip, you’re bent over, scrutinizing the bemoaned man sitting on the ground before you. Still, he accosts you through his bangs, at first silently questioning you before opting to speak.

“… what is it?” Your lips purse, registering the hollow tone of his voice.

“I’m just wondering why you felt the need to try to hide your injuries when you returned today,” you say, dipping down into a bend that levels your eyes together. Wei Wuxian blinks once before averting his gaze to his lap. “After all, you’ve always been a terrible liar, gēge. There’s no way I wouldn’t find out.”

“Not that I find any pride in it, but I am not a terrible liar,” he huffs. “What injuries?” Between his bangs and upon his cheeks, you spot rouge, and frown.

“There’s a chance you’re coming down with a fever, Xian-xian,” you explain, raising a hand to rest against his forehead. “You’re very warm.” Quickly, while his attention is elsewhere, your eyes scan across him, head to toe, examining his body language for where it might be, supposing he might not appreciate being stripped down to the point of indecency. “Also— you have not been on the receiving end of your Mò Xuányǔ act, so I’ll hear nothing more about it.” Even still…

His shoulders? Gently, but still firmly enough to test turbulent waters, you squeeze from their muscular tops, down, down, down past his biceps, elbows, forearms, your fingers gliding from his wrists to twist his palms face up toward you— all whilst ignoring his flustered complaints. Nothing, or at least, he has no pained reaction to your touch here.

You move on, kneeling before him, quick to be patting up from his padded ankles and calves and up to his knees, and in spite of his squirming, across the expanse of the corded musculature of his clothed thighs— them, you desperately try to not think too much about, even when he finally swats your hands away as you near the juncture where his legs and hips meet.

Unfortunately — for who, exactly? — you’ll have to remove the upper layer of his robes, and upon finding nothing on his lower extremities, you stand back up to do so. Eyes wide as your hands pass through either breast of his hanfu, Wei Wuxian is quick to grab your wrists and hold them away midair, teeth gritted and paling skin flushed in his apparent panic.

“Wei Wuxian!” you snap, voice hardened; he flinches upon feeling your musculature do the same. “Why on earth are you so guarded right now?”

“B-Because!” he accidentally stammers, instantly accosting himself in his mind for the blunder, only to do it again. “Because you’re… you’re trying to strip a grown man of his clothing! H-How indecent of you!”

Your cheeks warm. “Indecent?! What?! Me?” This time, the one corner of his lips rise, at you. “Wei Yīng!”

“Well, aren’t you?” Your exasperation shows itself through a sigh.

“The fact that you have a new body changes absolutely nothing about your old personality!” you remind him, whacking his apparently non-injured arm. “Why must you always turn a situation into something so suggestive!? I’m worried for you!”

“And so you would caress me like a lover would, just to see for my injuries?” he teases, raising his arms in faux protection of himself with a pout. Your face ignites with heat, and if it’s from anger, concern, or purely from the effects of his use of the word “lover”, you would refuse to address it, and instead rest a hand on his knee.

“If it means to find them, then yes,” you answer through clenched teeth. “I would.” If only slightly, Wei Wuxian’s arms drop at your words, eyebrows flying upward and in the opposite direction of his falling jaw. **

“Eh?” You would?

“So please, just… just let me see you; let me heal you. Don’t make me worry for you more than I already do.”

If you’re surprised by his sudden complacency, you don’t show it. Not when he lets you place his hands into his lap, not when he lets you unwrap the dadai securing his zhongyi shut, and barely when he lets you slide your hands beneath his breast of his hanfu and along the prominence of his collarbones to his shoulders— just how are you being so… so normal about this?! he wonders, pulse racing.

Two hands fly up between you to pause you once more. You sigh, hands now braced against him when you’d lurched forward.

“Xian-xian, you…”

“Sorry, I— I’m not trying to stop you exactly, I just…” Gently, he clears his throat. “You’re just—”

You sputter out a chuckle after finally meeting his lowered, lidded gaze. No, it wouldn’t be surprise that you were feeling.

“The shameless, smooth-talking Wèi Wuxian, flustered after a little skin-on-skin, hm?” Satisfaction, perhaps. Especially when you’ve managed to turn him the same shade of red as his belt. “Who’s the indecent one now?”

It’s true that your only motive for pressing the matter had been to treat his injury, one that you’d finally discovered upon pulling the left side of his hanfu down to reveal a set of long, jagged scrapes and slices leading from beneath his pectoral muscle and down to his waist; it’d even already started bruising around the worst affected areas, the scraping, itself, having caused bloody spotting from end to end. It’s why you’d been so lightheartedly offended when he’d called you indecent. Now, it’s only so obvious that it’d just been him being the pot to call the kettle “black”.

You’d never seen him blush so terribly before— not in the presence of the same girls he’d once teased with his ways over a decade ago (he wouldn’t dare now, not in the body of a so-called “lunatic” lest he be slapped for it), and perhaps only subtly in front of Lán Wàngjī (unless you count the times the two of them had been together that Hánguāng-jūn found himself dipping a little too deeply into the liquid courage). All his actions and words have been so calculated and controlled, such as his initial acts upon returning to life with Mò Xuányǔ’s visage, that you often think it comical when you find yourself able to catch him off-guard.

The sleeves of his under robe slip off his shoulders almost teasingly slow, through no fault of your own, but you don’t complain. Yes, despite the pounding in your chest that you know not only does is it from seeing your dear friend half nude, but from the overwhelming concern over the fact that this is the third time in eight days that Wèi Wuxian has returned to you scathed.

It’s absentmindedly done, when a nimble finger dips into the dredge of his belt’s knot to loosen it. You watch it collapse around his waist, half hanging onto the fabric pooled along his lap, before reaching to part his zhongyi and robes. It… exposes too much, your already muddled thoughts muddle on.

You bite back a sigh, and your fingers drag down to his abdomen almost fretfully. With the suddenly abysmal tone your voice takes on, it is barely a distraction from you for Wèi Wuxian. “This world has taken so much from you, and yet… you never tire to give back to it. The second time around, you ought to take better care of yourself, xīngān…”

Until now, that is.

If it weren’t for how stiff the man before you has become, you might not have even noticed you’d said the word in the first place. Xīngān?! More absentmindedness!! You curse yourself, dreading the look that might be awaiting you on Wèi Wuxian’s face, but you look up to him anyhow.

It’s insufferable. He’s insufferable, just like you’d figured he would be. His expression is a tell-all— as hard as he’d fight the fact, he truly is a terrible liar, and the truth shines through in this look of his: though pale likely from the pain of his injury, the tips of his nose and ears, as well as the highest peaks of his high cheekbones, blazed with rouge, and accompany the quirking of the corners of his lips, as if unsure whether to smile or to smirk.

Though, what’s certainly more intolerable is the back and forth your thoughts pull you along with in deciding whether you’re simply embarrassed that the endearing term slipped out, or, if you wished he might bother to do something about it.

“X-Xīngān, huh?” Slow and shy, Wèi Wuxian laughs, his gaze softening when yours meet. “You care that much for me, hm?”

“D… Don’t get a big head; it just slipped out.” You abruptly straighten, prompting Wèi Wuxian to do the same to avoid being hit in the chin. He leans back on his hands, knees splitting apart to balance his weight.

“Well, if someone called you their xīngān, maybe you’d react the same way.”

“Maybe,” you agree, and once more, your flesh burns— their xīngān, you realize he’d said. My… xīngān.

“Hehe.” Wèi Wuxian suddenly grins at you, eyes shut and smile bright— cheeky man.

“My xīngān,” you muse aloud, stepping forward and in between his parted legs. Upon feeling your clothed thighs brush against his, Wèi Wuxian’s eyes snap open, his lips dividing in shock as he stammers out your name. Your own satisfied purse of your lips — in fact, coupled with your one hand rising to cradle the left of his face while the other presses into his opposite shoulder for balance, he only becomes further mute, unable to stammer out even a single consonant. “My xīngān.”

It’s instinctive when Wèi Wuxian’s hand curls around the back of your thigh, the other keeping him propped upward, because despite his inability to speak, he wants nothing more than to show you just how much enjoys the sound of this. Across the expanse of it, his fingers dance, ruffling your own hanfu and ku beneath them and pulling you deeper into him.

“My xīngān,” he echoes. Your bottom lip wrinkles beneath the teeth that bite down on it, eyes shimmering with something he’d yet to see for himself on you. Upwards, his hands slide, over the curve of your rear that has you gasping sharply, and up to your waist— Wèi Wuxian leans forward and buries himself into your chest with no warning, arms wrapped around your middle and face hidden in the folds of your robes.

Hands poised once more on his shoulders to push him away, you pause when you feel him wince against you, and realize that your leg must be touching his wounds. “W-Wèi Wuxian, come on, let me heal you now—”

“Not yet,” he murmurs, his hold only tightening. You find yourself glad he can’t see your face right now. “This is healing enough.”

I just wanted something cute about him here... dats all...

MXTX's women part 2

Let's do ✨discourse™✨part 2

This is a follow up to this post where the only conclusions I came to were vibes based... mainly because my opinions here are generally vibes based (except svsss - I am pretty firm on my view of svsss, but that's a separate post). I think there are strong arguments either way, and tbh I have nothing against vibes based conclusions, but for fun, I'm going to take a position and argue for it.

disclaimer: 1) this post is not my opinion. 2) nonetheless, this post is entirely unironic. I think these are compelling arguments.

Position 1: MDZS and TGCF are sexist.

To recap, I posed (dramatically, in bold face) that the most important question to ask are: What is the intent? How is that intent received? This can be summed up as: What is the message you take away?

Obviously, you can fight me here, but I'll expand. Firstly, the question doesn't fundamentally come down to what the work contains, even though this is important. Every statement on the lines of 'x is sexist because it contains y' has a counterexample. Is the Handmaid's Tale sexist because it contains men in power and women treated as objects? Well op, this is a dumb example, you might say, and you would be right. The message of the Handmaid's Tale is clearly different from, say, MDZS and everything it contains is a support of that message - that a woman's reproductive freedom is her right. And I would go, ah ha, yes. Intent. (You can still disagree with me lol. This came out of a conversation literally a week ago.)

But also note, the author's actual intent is secondary. It's a useful framing to understand what the message is, but due to e.g. unconscious bias, or internalised sexism, the message gained by the reader/audience can be entirely independent of the intent of the author. For example, (one of my all time favourite c-dramas) the Secret of the Three Kingdoms I think is trying to be empowering for women, has lots of cool female characters, but the ultimate message can be summarised as 'men plough, women weave'... which is :/

Another subtlety to point out is that trends and popular tropes/archetypes tell a very different story when looked at overall. 'Woman in the refrigerator' and 'bury your gays' isn't a problem about individual works (although it often is mixed into other problems), but it's prevalence and dominance spreads harmful messages. A work which is great on it's own can actually be contributing to a wider problem, thus making it a problem.

MDZS: Women as accessory

It's not that difficult to argue that MDZS has an exceptional cast of women. I have no intention of arguing that MDZS's women aren't well developed, because enough people have come up with compelling counterarguments and they aren't hard to find. I think MDZS's portrayal of sexism is both exceptionally nuanced and not something you see much of. I love the way MDZS uses and breaks down tropes. I would argue (have argued) that the way MXTX puts sexism into her works is (at least partly) very much deliberate, and not with the intent of being sexist.

But remember, death of the author: author's original intentions don't matter in the face of what can be read from the text.

Notable in MDZS is 1) the lack of female characters who aren't defined by their relation to a major male character 2) women in the refrigerator.

1) Jiang Yanli is Wei Wuxian's older sister. Yu Ziyuan is Wei Wuxian's adopted mother. Wang Lingjiao is Wen Chao's girlfriend. Madam Jin, Meng Shi, Qin Su. Now, there are notable exceptions. Wen Qing is Wen Ning's sister, but her character is substantial even without that. Luo Qingyang (mianmian). Sisi (arguably). But there are overwhelmingly more male characters, and perhaps more importantly, hardly any male characters defined by their relation to a female character. There are a few. Madam Mo and her husband. Jin Zixuan as Jiang Yanli's husband (arguably). This isn't an exhaustive list but you get the idea.

2) Well, firstly, most of them die. Yu Ziyuan ends up in an unhappy marriage and dies as her sect burns down. Jiang Yanli loses a husband and then sacrifices herself for her brother. Wang Lingjiao gets offed by Wei Wuxian. Qin Su is killed by her husband. Mo Xuanyu's mother and Madam Jin just die of 'heartbreak' for what? Plot convenience? More egregiously, all of these deaths are there to either a) plot reasons or b) to add to the development of a male character. This is precisely the 'women in the refrigerator' trope, but multiplied a million times.

The only female character who got her happy ending was Mianmian... who lives a simple life with her family in the middle of nowhere. And it's great that in being brave and pursuing the right thing, she found happiness for herself, but this being the only example is um...

Well, the message feels suspiciously like women exist only for men. Men are the protagonists of their stories. Women are accessories. Sounds pretty sus. Maybe this is all due to the sexism of the world, but the message is then that the only way for women to succeed is to leave the system altogether, which is a nuanced thing but not true and somewhat unhelpful as a message.

Now, arguably, MXTX is leaning into tropes in order to be critical of them. Her female characters are full of tropes, and subversions of tropes - they could act as a critique of female characters in BL (in the way the female characters in SVSSS are critique of female characters in harem). There are a few pointers to this - Mianmian standing up to sexism, or the depth and nuance of Yu Ziyuan finding power+influence through her marriage of Jiang Fengmian. But the point stands is that isn't the message most people take away, because of the way MDZS is framed. MDZS just works as a xianxia action/romance. It isn't a parody (or at least, you don't need to read it as one to follow it). It isn't explicitly critical of how the women end up, nor is the narrative centered around the experiences of women. It is very easy to take away the surface level messages, which I think many people end up doing.

Whatever MXTX intended to say with her female characters, arguably MDZS already adds to an existing problem in how media portrays women. Media plays a huge role in how we see ourselves and other people, and unideal representation of women can lead to unconscious biases and stereotypes which are harmful. This being the case, one could argue that any media that fails to either fix the issue or address the issue sufficiently is problematic. On this vein, MDZS falls short.

TGCF: women as secondary

While TGCF improves on the front of women in power doing well, and more explicitly calling out the sexism of the world, it fails at a different front: the lack of women within the core plot.

The structure of TGCF is very different to MDZS, in that it contains a lot of what I would call 'side quests'. This is not a bad thing (this is sort of the whole point of things like (old) Star Trek or Doctor Who). But the core story of TGCF is (arguably) 1) Xie Lian's two ascensions and in between 2) Meeting Hua Cheng at various points 3) Tonglu mountain. And within this core story, there isn't a single female character necessary for the plot.

Ling Wen, Xuan Ji, Banyue, Shi Qingxuan, Yushi Huang... are all exceptional female (and non-binary) characters in their own right, but the story doesn't require them. They could be swapped out quite easily with other characters, unlike e.g. main pair, Feng Xin, Mu Qing, Jun Wu... (Note this isn't about how often they appear, or how developed they are. Lang Ying (the old one) doesn't appear a lot, but is essential to the plot.) (Yushi Huang and Ling Wen are kind of required, but equally for like... quest and item giving purposes which is not really the same.)

It's almost like there is no female person in Xie Lian's life who is essential to his personhood. And the message might inadvertently be that women are part of side quests - they aren't necessary.

This is, in part, a Xie Lian problem. The narration is tied closely to Xie Lian's pov (but isn't third person limited, interestingly), and we get delights like this:

Aside from the fact that Xuan Ji went mad whenever she ran into Pei Ming, she was otherwise much more detail-oriented and cautious than Qi Rong - she was a woman, after all.

(btw, be exceptionally suspicious of statements like 'women are more detail-oriented and cautious'. They are often wrong, or with heavy caveats.)

This is not on it's own a bad thing - e.g. compare with Shen Qingqiu's narration in SVSSS. But it is arguably a bad thing if you pair it with the fact that Xie Lian is 1) presented as much more likable than Shen Qingqiu 2) is not as obviously bias. He comes across as a trustable character, and so we are less likely to question his biases... so we run into the same problem as in MDZS: we aren't led to question the surface level messages, so the message we take away is an unhelpful one.

I feel like the way around this is (somewhat paradoxically) to reintroduce female characters whose lives (from narrator pov) revolve around the protagonist. (e.g. get in an Jiang Yanli) (The 800 year time skip means they either need to 1) become gods, 2) become ghosts 3) die, all of which have their own potential problems but that's for the author to figure out :p) Making Xie Lian less sexist would be slightly unrealistic but not at all out of character. Having Xie Lian's biases explicitly called out and this be a big thing is another way to go. Or both.

To conclude

Both points fall down to something along these lines: although both MDZS and TGCF make attempts at commentary on the struggles of women, because this narrative is not at the forefront of the story they inadvertently give across only half the message, which is worse than no message at all. 'There are tropes within the genre which treat women badly and this is bad' becomes 'women are like what these tropes say they are like'. 'Women aren't given opportunities so end up worse off' becomes 'women end up worse off'.

Maybe something in between MDZS to TGCF would be an improvement, but also, if the focus on male characters meant these narratives were difficult to execute within a reasonable word count, it might have been better to just skip sexism altogether. (sci fi is usually where this is attempted seriously, but fantasy definitely has scope for imagining better societies.) (This is all much easier said than done btw. Part of a fan's job is to stand on the sidelines and complain, right? 😂)

As Lán Wàngjī arrived at the entrance of Cloud Recesses, memories filled his mind of him and Wèi Wúxiàn's when they first met. He chuckled at the memory as he remembered when he first put the silencing charm on Wèi Wúxiàn. A tear rolled out of his eye and he realized that lost his soul mate. Lán Wàngjī still had y/n but Wèi Wúxiàn was his first soul mate and now he's gone. How was he supposed to tell y/n about Wèi Wúxiàn?

Y/n waited patiently for Lán Wàngjī's arrival. As soon as he saw Lán Wàngjī, he had expected to see Wèi Wúxiàn with Lán Wàngjī but he wasn't there with him.

"Wàngjī', where's Ā-Xiàn?" asked y/n. Lán Wàngjī' didn't say anything and looked at y/n with sympathy. As y/n looked at Lán Wàngjī, he instantly knew that Wèi Wúxiàn was gone and was never going to come back. Small droplets of crystal clear water started to form in his eyes as he realized Wèi Wúxiàn was gone. Wèi Wúxiàn had promised y/n that he would never turn to demonic cultivation but he had broken his promise to him because he had to sacrificed his golden core for Jiāng Chéng.

Lán Wàngjī' was later than punished because he had helped the demonic cultivator. Y/n couldn't bare to see Lán Wàngjī in so much pain so he sacrificed himself and asked Lán Qǐrén to punish him instead, and punish him twice the amount. Even though, his cultivation wasn't the best he would sacrifice himself for the people he loved. Lán Qǐrén agree to this but he forced Lán Wàngjī to watch y/n getting the 66 discipline whips as his punishment. After the 10th whip, y/n winced at the pain and started to spit out some red liquid. Lán Wàngjī watched as y/n was getting whipped and felt guilty, this was his punishment but y/n foolishly sacrificed himself for him. After the 30th whip, he knew y/n couldn't take it anymore. When y/n finally had the last whip, he collapsed. He could barely feel his body and his vision was blurry. Lán Wàngjī quickly ran towards him and carried y/n on his back to get him healed.

When y/n finally awoken, he was still very pale and still felt pain. Lán Wàngjī tried to give him some cultivation but y/n stopped him and gave him a gentle smile because he knew he was going to die soon as he was a low cultivator and he couldn't survive the whips they had given him.

Days had passed, and y/n looked a little better but his body was still weak and you could still see his scars from the whips. Lán Wàngjī visited him often even though he still had his duties and he would often give him medicine to help y/n heal faster even though there was no use.

When Lán Wàngjī visited y/n again, y/n looked very weak and could barely manage. Lán Wàngjī tried to transfer some cultivation to him but y/n stopped him again and knew that his time would end soon.

"Lán Wàngjī, thank....you for everything. Thank you.... for taking care.... of a weak cult...ivator.... like me. Lán Wàngjī, even though I.... am going soon, I don't.... regret any....thing in the past...... weeks.... even the whips." Y/n said as he cupped Lán Wàngjī's face in his hand and his eyes started to close. As soon as y/n hand immediately dropped, Lán Wàngjī knew he was gone. Wei Ying was now all over Lan Zhan's face, asking him where you were, "Lan Zhan~ have you seen (name)~?", he whined like a child, Lan Zhan just gave him a slight glare before continuing his studies as if the other had vanished into thin air.

You sighed, looking at the two while you sat across the room from them, hoping the bastard wouldn't find you, fortunately for you, he was kicked out after being scolded by Lan Qiren, you sighed in relief and continued your studies.

You sat silently reading the caligraphy in peace while rabbits gathered around you, some sleeping, some staring, some trying to get on your lap, the sound of the waterfall made everything ever so peaceful until- "(Name)! I found you!", the inevitable voice of Wei Ying disrupts the peace and quiet you once had. Sighing, you close the scroll and turn around to see him just right behind you, face to face, too close for comfort, you turn back around, flustered, "what you want, Wei Wuxian", as you said that, he pouted "We're already so close and yet you're still calling me by my courtesy name!", he whined like a child once again, "It's for formalities. ", was all you answered before picking up the rabbits from your lap and setting them down, walking away from the area, "jeez why are you so cold~ you're almost as cold as Lan Zhan", he continued to follow you, you just walked faster and closed your eyes, but then suddenly bumped into someone, "my apologies, i wasn't watching where i was going..", you slightly looked up to see Lan Wangji, he looked at you and then at Wei Wuxian who was following closely, "Hey Lan Zhan! I didn't know you take walks here!", he says enthusiastically while waving.

Lan Zhan just looks at you, grabbing your arm and taking you with him, "date", was all he said, flustering you even more, blush was spread on your cheeks.

"No fair! You said i would have the first date", Wei Wuxian goes infront of Lan Wangji and blocks his way, "go", Lan Wangji said, slightly irritated, trying to walk past Wei Wuxian, "ah...", was all you could muster, this was a weird situation.. before your mind could process everything, you were suddenly carried by Lan Wangji, bridal style and being lifted up in the air, you instinctively grabbed onto his neck, and buried your head in his chest, you had never really flew before, this was a new experience for you, Wei Wuxian had followed you both, " Lan Zhan!!! This is so not fair you know!", he yells a bit, the air was cold, it was peaceful, despite the whines of a certain male in the background.

That was the most recent memory you had of them, now you were just a wandering cultivator, your remaining family members and clan members had been slained by the Wen clan, you weren't there to witness it, people can say that was a bad or good thing.

Although, you were there for Wei Wuxian's demise, all you could do was watch it happen, trying to save his shijie with your limited medical knowledge, you felt guilty, you couldn't help him nor his shijie, after the whole thing happened, you fled , living a normal life with a ridiculous amount of gold and silver on you.

It was during this time that you met with some folks who were still young and independent, they wanted to be cultivators, your title was starting to die down so they didn't know who you were, you had saved the small village from destruction, making the young men beg to go with you on your journey, you ignored them and went on your way but they were insistent, they kept following you despite you telling them to stay in the village, with no choice, you let them follow you.

It had now been 13 years after the incident, you taught the young men, Feng Liu, Cheng Wei and Hua Guo, how to cultivate, they were capable of cultivation, but they were noticeably weaker than some cultivators. You and your team were walking along the mountains when you noticed the leader of the Yunmeng Jiang clan along with Lan Zhan and Mo Xuanyu were, from what you can tell, fighting, you and your team stayed hidden until Jiang cheng was about to strike Mo Xuanyu with Zidian, your insticts kicked in and you got between them, grabbed Mo Xuanyu and rolled over on the ground, nearly getting struck, Mo Xuanyu was on top of you, "are you okay?", you asked, he stared at you for a but before Jiang Cheng broke the silence, " (name)? What are you doing here, saving a maniac of all things, we haven't seen you in 13 years." , he said coldly, you got up from your awkward position and patted down your clothes, you didn't bother answering and just walked away, before you could leave the scene, your arm was gripped tightly by...Lan Wangji, you turned your head to look at him, "do you need anything?", you looked at him impatiently ,he hadn't changed one bit, still remaining silent, though you noticed his tense figure noticeably softened when he saw your face, "haiyaa Jiang Cheng, you're going to scare him off", Mo Xuanyu says to Jiang Cheng, his gestures and speech were strangely similar to Wei Wuxian but you brushed it off as you missed him, "what brings ya here, (courtesy name)~", Mo Xuanyu gets up to your face, smiling like an idiot, " i was passing by.", you said, not minding his face close to you.

"If you don't mind, i'll be on my way." You try to escape from this situation, forgetting the grip on your arm, now tightening, "ow! Stop gripping so hard...", it really did hurt, you forgot how strong Lan Wangji was.

He lets go of you arm, letting you run towards the forest and towards your "friends".
