I'm bored and want to draw but my eyelids are swolen such that my eyes are like half closed so I'm going to make a post about what im thiking about: AI

So here's a take about ChatGPT and AI art from a comp sci student and artist

I think AI can be a good tool but what it can/ should be used for gets inflated. ChatGPT is an amazing chatbot! It can hold a conversation and provide small suggestions on things. It cannot help you with your essays or homework or much more at that. It will suck. One time my partner in OS class used it to do our project and I had to redo the whole thing last minute and miss physics, my second worse class after OS.

AI art I think is a great tool. But just a tool. ATSV had it so right!!! It should be a tool to HELP artists. Not replace them! I've used AI art for help with concept art and such. I was abusing my free trial of midjourney on discord before they revoked that lmao. I struggle with drawing armor and backgrounds so I prompted midjourney to come up with some concept arts and then used it as inspiration to draw that from scratch.

Basically as a comp sci student I think AI is very interesting and I love the strides being made. As an artist, that's more complicated. I HATE that art is being stolen. I like how it can be used as a tool, but I despise how corperations and hollywood are trying to replace real artists, especially with everything going on with the SAG and WGA protests. It disgusts me genuinely.

Idk but it really fucking angers me that people are more angry at n*** g***** and his actions because it’s resulted in good omens 3 being a single 90 minute episode instead of a full series than they were at him for sexually assaulting and coercing multiple women. Would you rather have a rapist face no repercussions and benefit from making a new full series or have him fired and get a shorter ending to a story and characters you loved?

Back when I worked at a talent agency in Hollywood, we represented a lot of journalists from what were then A-list publications because their feature writing was so vivid and immersive their work would regularly become the basis of screenplays. There would be bidding wars over the rights to the articles.

My boss would toss a copy of SI to me and tell me to read a flagged article and tell him if I thought it would make a good movie.

Those stories were so incredibly good, it was the highlight of my day.

That level of writing is still out there - I know it is - but once we started to think of it as 'content' instead of journalism or writing, and we raised an entire generation to expect that this kind of artistry and work should be available to them online for free in exchange for their clicks alone, we really, really lost something.

Anyhow, that's my soapbox.

you know I thought I was above the sentiment in that popular "overcome your feelings of cringe to support local artists" post because I've never looked at local visual art or music and felt cringe, but the SFF part of the local authors shelf at the library is proving that I too must humble myself.

Absolutely!!!!! It’s not done yet but it’s my baby so I’m always happy to share. I got this actual leather(!!!) jacket from Goodwill - it was priced at $15 and was half off, and I still can’t believe I got that much of a deal on a jacket in perfect condition. I’ve been using paint pens to decorate it, as well as adding chains across the back and skeleton beads I bought. I’ll share the most exciting upcoming addition at the end, but for now, base pictures:

Now, onto what I will be doing next:

Adding some little. Glass. Vials.

I knew I wanted vials of Zydrate on the back of my jacket, but I wasn’t sure how to get something blue that would stay liquid. My solution was genius, if I may say so. I bought some cheap little vials and used a syringe to fill them with a combination of mostly-clear vegetable oil and various-shades-of-blue eyeshadow that I mixed in a Little Glass Bowl. The resulting color isn’t as clear or as electric as I would like, but it is very sparkly and I appreciate that. The slightly different colors also swirl around in pretty ways, and when left unshaken for very long the eyeshadow settles and does leave it looking like clear blueish liquid. All it takes to re-mix it is a good shaking, and it’s as beautiful as ever.

I haven’t put them on my jacket yet since I haven’t glued the lids shut, but I’ll be hanging them from the chain on the back.

a molar that probably came from an elk? I found it in my driveway

a visalign type retainer thing I found on the ground and am painting to just look like a set of teeth

If I were lucky enough to attract a loyal following of goths, I would simply not slag off the subculture in interviews in a desperate and pathetic attempt to get the mainstream to consider me a real artist. RIP to every musician goths have ever loved but I'm different.

that said, I had an incredible time at Tampa Bay Comic Con yesterday!!! met some really cool people, got some amazing art pieces, got to talk to people about OCs and I got to see Brandon Rogers in person at his panel which was hands down the most fun (and chaotic) panel I've ever been to, and also saw some INCREDIBLE cosplayers!! it was also nice to take a break from cosplaying, however, I DID get TONS of comments and compliments on my Lucifer shirt ("Take that, depression!"), possibly more so than when i actually cosplayed lucifer

do people actually research how problematic the band is? all I do is check the country of origin (have to know, I ain't listening to no russians). I don't have energy to research every damn band member like shut tf up. if the fuck-up-ness of the band ain't a known fact (like w burzum, still tho many people just ignore the awfulness of varg just because "uhm I'm not into politics, I just love the music". even some ukrainians (idiots) are like this while knowing damn well he's a nazi pro russian dick. some people are dumb by nature and we can't do a thing about it) or they don't sing about it in their songs I have no way of knowing (forgive me that I'm not gonna waste my time on a dumb research instead of listening to music)
