Concerning Pokemon Scarlet Violet -no spoilers-

I’m enjoying it? A lot?

My bf bought both as an early xmas gift for me (while I’d enjoy the game alone, he knows I’m overjoyed to play with him) and honestly it’s been great? Sure there’s all the bugs everyone is posting about but honestly the only ones I’ve seen are some slight camera glitches, models briefly disappearing. Nothing too out of line for a day 1 copy. His game crashed once but as long as you remember to save it shouldn’t be an issue (tho I always turn of autosave in new games because of known past bugs). And by Arceus we laughed so much at those bugs

But on the plus side? Being in the same world, and I mean WORLD, not MAP, and doing our own thing and just running up to each other and show off our new pokemon? Finally being able to really BE with each other in game, not having to look over his screen to guide him somewhere because he can just look at the map? It’s so fun! We can be immersed in the game at the same time, without having to tear our attention away just because we want to help each other! We can jump in place and circle each other like we do in MMORPG! Video Game Communication!

Imagine people in long-distance relationships, finally being able to play truly together a pokemon game for the first time? Even with different playstyles we don’t need to lose the connection to go into cutscenes. I was able to see him battle the first gym!

Honestly, this was the very FIRST gen I was hesitating to buy/get/wtv. But now? Like, 6 hours in? That’s 6 hours I’ve spent playing with my very best friend and sharing laughs. Hell, he’s asleep right now but I don’t want to play it alone because?? we’re doing it together?? Don’t leave him behind??

Bugs will be patched, system errors will be checked. Losing that connection with others because of those, even years down the line? I’d say try it. Have fun! This was honestly one of the happiest days I’ve spent with my bf in years, just because of a glitchy day 1 game of a franchise I love he gave to me so we could play together. Together. He doesn’t even like pokemon that much!

Everyone knows that Light and L matched each other's freak but I think their dynamic in the musical (the Japanese ver specifically) is underrated. Like it's not super different from canon but they just had this extra edge of Violence that we never quite saw from the more methodical and careful mindgames in canon death note and I think it's great. Like, yes, they did declare in canon that they will bring each other to justice, yes L says he wants to send Kira to his execution, but in the lyrics of the musical they both outright say multiple times that they just want to straight up Kill each other. It's direct the whole way through. There's more mutual contempt. This game is about nothing more than simply being the first one to Kill the Other (they actually use the word "殺し合い" (koroshiau) or "to kill each other" to describe their game (translated as "murderous ... game")).

(Sidenote but all those references about wanting to send each other to Hell?? Beautiful)

Yeah this is a battle of justice and ideals, yes that clash is a key part of their final confrontation at the end of the musical, but throughout their duets (or even songs like The Game Begins where they're singing by themselves) there's this near singleminded desire to just fucking End each other. It's fucking Raw and it's great.

Also THIS FUCKING SCENE?? THIS SCENE FROM SECRETS AND LIES. Iconic. Actually Insane. My jaw dropped. Light looks like a crazy bitch it's beautiful.

Um. Also. Obligatory Playing His Game (yknow the gay sex song) lines dump. It basically says everything I just said above in like 9 lines. You see what I mean right.

In canon they're playing a game of mental chess, trying to use everyone around them to finally catch the other as their end goal, but in the musical you really do feel like all they see is each other. They would probably beat each other to death with their fists if it came down to that. Idk they're just so excited and fired up about their little game in the musical and it's so unhinged and fun and special and I love it. It's like the writers for the musical decided to kick their murderous intent up a couple notches and the result is absolutely Beautiful.

I also think that the intensity of their rivalry in the beginning just makes the wind-down of The Way It Ends soo much better. It's such a good contrast to their previous duets where they try to sing over each other (Secrets and Lies & Stalemate) or with each other but basically at the top of their lungs (Playing His Game). It feels like there's both a quiet mutual understanding but also an underlying disappointment that the game is finally over. In canon, L's death Is instead the peak of their game, the moment he gets confirmation that Light is Kira is the exact same moment that he dies. In the jdrama it's almost sudden, how L dies, after the quiet moment has already passed. But in the musical L's death, ironically, Is the one quieter moment in their game. Their peak was the game itself. It was Secrets and Lies and Playing His Game. But the end of the game in the musical is not a victory, it's just (as L says) the end of everything they'd been wanting up until this point.

Uh. Fuck it. Clip from the Kenji Urai version because I just love his delivery here. His tone just goes so well with the silence and the sound of the clock ticking. You see what I mean right.

Their rivalry in the musical may have been more shortlived but like Damn they were really enjoying every second of it. They were truly insane about each other until the very end. (Like despite everything I just said about the ending it was still unhinged as fuck. Light Making L Shoot Him and then Making L Shoot Himself with L's Own Hand?? Holy shit man. What the fuck /pos)

Robin and Steve playing a dnd character together because Steve said the only way he'd play is literally with Robin. They take turns each session for who speaks but always planning together. It's a teenage human, gangly and uncoordinated and a bit of a loner. Everyone sort of lets the "two people playing one character" issue slide, as they want to play a game with their friends.

Robin and Steve have wildly different character voices, and sometimes announce which way they are walking before stumbling in that direction, and also mutter to themself in character. when it's Steve's sessions to talk he flits with the NPCs Eddie plays, but Robin is just a little aggressive to them. The personality changes are kinda weird but everyone is just happy they're playing.

Everything is going well until the big bad of the short campaign they're all playing knocks them into a wall. Not hard, but hard enough they're scrambling and flailing and...splitting in half. By their own description. Immediately they start, with their respective character voices (they are committing to this bit) bickering about whose fault it is. And about what they should do now their cover is blown.

The table is silent.

Robin and Steve have been conning everyone the entire time. They're playing twin halflings, who alternated who sat on each other's shoulders pretending to be a human because they were goofing off the day they joined the party and were too embarrassed by the mix up to correct anyone about it until they had to. Their voices and personality changes are brilliantly embedded as not Robin and Steve not being able to keep consistent, it's because they've been playing different characters. It's brilliant. It's horrible. Everyone fell for it and the reveal essentially pauses play because everyone starts yelling at them.

my problem is i want more fics where dazai and aya interact but i just know the dazai & aya tag is going to be full of the most ooc stuff you could imagine. no i don't want her to be his daughter; i want dazai to be kunikida's weird coworker who gives aya sketchy advice and buys her candy with kunikida's card. i want dazai to have the world's most pathetic feud with a literal ten year old. i want aya to see through dazai's masks and call him out on some insecurity he thought he had buried very well underneath eighteen layers of apathy and irony and whimsy. i want them to team up to prank kunikida. i want them to play minecraft and roblox together, and for aya to be better at it than dazai is. can you see my vision can anyone hear me
