if you’re a vegan, I literally do not want to talk to you right now.
“ohhhh, we should’ve turned to plant-based stuff, now we’re all suffering with the egg shortage!” shut the fuck up.
listen, eggs are a vital staple of baking. They’re both a binder and a leavening agent: the proteins in the whites help with the rise, while the fats in yolks work with the whites to be a glue of sorts; angel food cake is as light and airy as it is because it’s risen from the whites. When you make a cake or cookies with 1 or 2 eggs, you end up with a finished result that rose well and manages to keep itself together. When you use one of the substitutes i shared earlier, you have to think around it. Baking soda and vinegar, and also arrowroot powder and water, will give the rise of proteins, but it’s lacking fats and moisture, so you have to use something like yogurt or buttermilk. Applesauce, bananas, avocado, and seeds with water will add a taste—depending on what the baked good is, it could be delicious or make you lose your lunch. It’s not something you can dick around with, either: you have to experiment. You have to be a chemist as well as a baker.
plus, one of the many things that helped me lose a ton of weight was adding scrambled eggs and Denver omelettes to my diet. They’re good proteins and good fats (in the case of the Denver omelette, you get vitamins from the bell pepper and onion embedded), they build your muscles, bone tissue, and also brain tissue, and they stick to your ribs so you don’t eat as much. really, I’m usually good to go until mid-afternoon after I have a couple of eggs with some toast. And from an evolutionary standpoint, we need those good proteins and fats (why do you think we have incisors?) it’s why I think if you go purely vegan, you have got to talk to a dietitian and a nutritionist about it first. And I feel most people who do go vegan—that is, almost everyone now—don’t. The small minority of vegans who do have been so their entire lives, like they just didn’t care for the taste of meat starting from when they began eating solid food. Or they went that way late in life with consultation at the helm and it worked wonders for them, like in the cases of Paul McCartney and Bill Clinton. ***edit: I just thought of this, referring back to animal proteins helping build brain tissue. I can’t be the only one who finds it weird that as veganism has gotten popular, intelligence seems to have fallen off a cliff.
But I’m not going to listen to an entire collective of people who blindly bought into a trend thinking they’re saving the world and doing their bodies good. It’s why I find the whole pro-Palestine movement a bunch of bullshit, other than the people who comprise the movement are antisemites and refuse to admit to it. It’s absolutely blind leading the blind and beckons the whole “if the cool kids jumped off a bridge, would you?”
my whole beef (no pun intended) with the whole vegan trend is not the lifestyle itself, it’s not the pervasiveness, it’s not even the taste—and in fact, I often have to make the disclaimer to say that vegan food is often the most delicious food I’ve had. I always feel healthier immediately after eating a vegan dish. I’m also not saying vegan recipes and substitutions don’t work: a lot of them, like aquafaba meringue and the baking soda-vinegar trick, are miracles of science.
It’s the shitty, snotty holier-than-thou, condescending attitude that way too many of them have, and Jesus Christ, they are seriously coming out of the woodwork right now in the face of the egg shortage. If you have to trick yourself into eating more healthily, that is, you resort to eating “plant-based meats” (which I personally don’t think are healthy, as they’re heavily processed plants shaped into a piece of meat like a steak or a handful of shrimp, just like how tofu did in the 90s), and constantly talk about how great it is (when you look pale, sick, and in some cases, 3D printed—am not going to explain that), you failed at the lifestyle and probably shouldn’t have done that.
I got 6 eggs left in my fridge and I’m protecting them like they’re gold in the basement of Fort Knox until I can find another dozen or 18 eggs. I’ll be making a cake tomorrow with the baking soda-vinegar combination with mayonnaise as that gives moisture and fat (as it’s got egg yolks, milk, and oil in it). Fingers crossed.
I already scoff at how the internet treats baking as is, like it’s an aesthetic or one big joke. If there’s any silver lining with the egg shortage, it’s that I hope it kills this mindset dead and shows just how the vegan movement is limp-wristed, pathetic, and all frosting with no cake underneath. Not everyone can afford plant-based steaks, Becky, or even metabolize it very well. And yeah, Nikki, not so funny now that you can’t get eggs and make your elaborate chocolate-cherry-pistachio-ginger-lemon cake with cherry-raspberry-pistachio Italian buttercream frosting or your elaborate chocolate-peanut butter-pumpkin spice cake and post your heavily edited “journey” where your makeup is perfect and you’re laughing most of the time online now can you?

Welcome to chapter five! Sorry it’s been a minute! Hope you enjoy!
Damian sat at the kitchen counter, quietly observing the trio as they began to cook.
“Okay!” Sam began, “the cauliflower needs to be roasted for the sauce, potatoes need to be peeled and boiled for the gnocchi.”
Danny surveyed the kitchen like a battlefield with what looked like, from what Damian could glean, instinctual observance. As if he expected the fruit to sprout teeth and bite him.
Danny seemed to notice his gaze.
“Uh, I can prepare a spice mix for the cauliflower!” Danny offered.
“Cool” Sam said as she cut the cauliflower into quarters. “What about you short stack?”
Damian bristled at the nickname.
“I am not short, I am the ideal size for stealth.” Damian added a sniff to add to the validity and aloofness of his statement.
To his dismay however he was met with a chorus of laughter and awwws.
“Okay then what should we call you? My name’s Sam!”
“I’m Tucker!”
“And I assume you know my name since you held a knife to my throat lol”
This was not ideal. The goal of this was to scope out Daniel’s allies while instilling fear so that he stops his snooping.
That was the goal.
Not to eat food that sounded delicious.
“My name is Damian Wayne. The blood son of Bruce Wayne and protector of the Wayne family name.”
“…”
“…”
“How very intense.” Danny remarked.
Damian smirked at this acknowledgment, not catching the amusement in Danny’s tone.
“Well Mr protector of the Wayne family name, can you peel potatoes?” Sam asked.
“Yes of course.”
Damian has never peeled potatoes in his life. He’s seen Alfred do it though so how hard could it be?
By the third potato Clark had run out of bandages. Despite his determination to finish his duty was confiscated.
“At this rate the dish won’t be vegan anymore!” Sam teased as she expertly peeled the remaining potatoes.
“Don’t worry man you’ll get a handle on your knife skills!” Tucker said in an attempt to soften the blow.
This comment did quite the contrary.
“My knife skills are superb! My own mother practically trained me since birth to wield a blade! Grayson also complimented my proficiency after I nearly beat him in a sparring match! How dare you imply a lack of skill!”
Damian’s outburst was met with silence and he immediately realized he had said too much.
“Trained since birth?” Sam echoed with concern etched in her face.
“You had to fight Grayson? Like Dick Grayson?” Danny said slowly approaching the boy.
Damian’s face began to resemble a tomato. His temper had gotten the better of him! What about these people made him forget all his interrogation training?
“I… no!” He said shielding his face from their prying gazes.
“That was a lie! I have never held a sword!”
“THEY GAVE YOU SWORDS?!?” They all asked in unison.
“NO!”
The silence hung thick in the air. The only thing that cut through it was Damian’s stomach growling.
This was beyond embarrassing.
“We should just finish this. Damian signed up for gnocchi not an interrogation.” Sam said, causing the boy to sigh with relief.
They returned to their work and the previously easy tone. Complaining about the five page essay they had to write the class of one Mr. Lancer.
“Dude I cannot even begin to understand what he means by ‘the wallpaper represents Amelia’ it’s wallpaper!” Danny began.
“That I understood.” Sam began. “During the time this was written green wallpaper was colored with arsenic. Specifically this was the time where people knew it was poisonous but still used it anyway.”
“What does that have to do with Amelia purposefully destroying all of her relationships?” Tucker said incredulously.
“…”
“…”
“Oh.”
Todd would have gotten a kick out of this conversation.
They finished rather quickly. Setting the table with six place settings.
Damian looked at them quizzically until the front door opened.
“SURPRISE!”
“Oh!” Clark exclaimed startling back into the doorframe.
Damian knew that was a fake reaction. Kent could smell cookies baking in Utah from L.A.
“These are my friends Tucker and Sam! Also we made a thank you dinner for being so nice and welcoming to me and my sister.” Danny finished his sentence rather sheepishly.
“Awww! Thank you so so much! I’m sure it will be great!” Clark said with one of the brightest smiles Damian had seen in his whole life.
Damian had made a very good decision about staying. The meal was very good. Maybe because he felt pride in being a part of making it.
He yawned. No good. His guard was far too low. At this rate he will never intimidate Daniel. He blinked for perhaps a bit to long for the next moment he found himself in his own bed at the manor.
Father must have come to get him.
Curses!
Next time Daniel.
You will rue…
The day…
His eyelids slid shut once more.

SnowBaz Tea: SSCoNE 2024
As part of our 2024 event, we had a tea party at The Bookworm in Omaha. I was tasked with deciding which teas we would be having. And by "tasked with," I mean I took this task on myself without asking despite the fact that @shrekgogurt was in charge of food. But at least it was still related to an activity, which I was in charge of, right?
Anyway, I, along LavenderSprinkles and RynMar (neither on tumblr, but both on AO3), spent a lot of time looking at different teas for the best SnowBazzy options to have at our tea party. We had to narrow it down to 3, but I found so many good options, I didn't want them to go to waste! And I didn't get a chance to talk much about the ones I did decided on, either.
For now, I'll just discuss the teas we did choose. The tea house all of these blends come from is my absolute favorite: Friday Afternoon Tea (Whoa, I just discovered they're on tumblr! Hi @friday-tea!). It is a queer latine owned and operated small business that specializes in creating blends inspired by your favorite fandoms. It has been called "The Gayest Tea Shop on the West Coast" by Cosmopolitan Magazine: a title that the owner and employees proudly carry. No, they don't pay me for this. I just really freaking love their tea and the community they strive to create. So who else would I go to for our SnowBaz tea party?
French Cookie
Ingredients: Black tea, almond, orange peel (replaced with lemon peel to avoid an allergy in the group), natural vanilla and almond flavoring
Fandom Blend? No, house blend
Representing: Simon
This tea can actually come as a black tea, a rooibos, or an oolong. I had originally planned for rooibos to make sure we had a decaf option, but once I found Small Lady, I went back to our tried and true favorite black tea base.
This is one has been a long time coming. Back when I first read the series, LavenderSprinkles and I spent all of our free time thinking about the characters. At one point I asked her, "If Simon were a tea, what tea would he be?" She immediately answered "almond rooibos." (Though in my opinion, it's a better fit for what Simon would actually drink than what Simon would be. Either way, it's Simony). It wasn't until planning for SSCoNE that I realized (and she confirmed) that she was specifically thinking about French Cookie. Since the original discussion, LavenderSprinkles has started getting the black tea version for iced tea in the summer, and it's delicious, so we knew it would work great for the tea party. I think I'll have to go back and try the rooibos version again, though!
Derpy Hooves
Ingredients: Black tea, white tea, marigold, natural vegan cream flavoring, bergamot oil
Fandom Blend? My Little Pony
Representing: Baz
I knew I wanted a floral tea for Baz, and Derpy Hooves delivered! I hadn't had it before and it was so good, at least for a floral tea lover like myself. And bergamot oil? Obviously.
I had no idea what fandom this was from when I picked it. Once I realized it was My Little Pony, I just about died. My first thought was "Baz would be horrified!" After a moment, though, I decided that Baz would secretly know all about MLP becuase of his sisters. Ever since I started thinking about what the crew would wear to see Barbie (omg, a whole year ago???), I've had a headcanon that Petra is a total horse girl.
There were sooo many good Baz teas, but a lot of them were very... unusual. For the tea party, we figured a tea that would be appealing to lots of people would be the better choice, so I picked a more moderate flavor profile, but I am very excited to talk about some of the other ones I found in a future post!
Small Lady
Ingredients: Rooibos, sour cherry, strawberry, pink peppercorn, sugar star sprinkles (removed because of potential soy allergen), pink lustre dust, natural black cherry flavoring, bergamot oil
Fandom Blend? Sailor Moon
Representing: A Lady Ruth Tea Party
I mean. Sour cherry and bergamot oil alone are Simon and Baz. Add in the pink, the glitter, the black cherry, the strawberry, the sprinkles and tell me you don't have a Lady Ruth creation on your hands. And yes, I said glitter! Unfortunatley this didn't come through at the tea party. I think the tea bags I put the loose leaf in didn't allow for the glitter to escape. But I promise you it's adorable and that glitter makes it through all but the finest grained teabags and steepers. When I brew it at home, it is sparkling.
This was the most commented-on tea at the party (in a good way), and it makes sense! It's fun and fruity and light and can be as gay as it wants. It can even be extra gay, as a treat! (Seriously, you could order this and ask them to add glitter of every color or rainbow sprinkles or something.) (They might charge extra if you get really wild -- I'm not sure.)
Bonus Tea: AO3
Ingredients: Oolong tea, aloe vera, orange peel, osmanthus, natural orange flavoring, natural cream aroma
Fandom Blend? General fandom
Representing: All of us weirdos
We ended up not getting this one for the tea party because it's so orange heavy (an allergen for some), and taking out or substituting the orange would just not be the same. But when I tell you I squealed when they revealed this blend for the first time! Unfortunately, I forgot to get some before it went out of seasons, so I will eagerly await its return next year.
That's all for now. I will have at least one more post with some of the runner up teas, but I have a feeling this might become a series with how many teas are in the (always growing) Friday Afternoon Tea catalogue alone.

At my book club last week I baked and brought everyone these sicilian brioche buns that came out perfect, and my friend brought persimmons from her yard which I took home and broiled with honey and ate the soft flesh of with whipped cream. We meet at the same bar every month to the point where all the bartenders know us and give us free malasadas or free cookies whenever we’re there and they always joke sweetly about joining our club. My family is having thanksgiving together with both my sisters for the first time in many years at my sister’s new home in LA and that makes me happy to think about. The day before, leigh and I always watch an old (usually 90s) macy’s parade while we cook together. I took her out to the coziest fanciest restaurant last night in the city to celebrate 9 years together and we shared a glass of wine and had a delicious meal, that we concluded with a slice of a caramelized banana cake with vegan cashew ice cream. Ive gotta go make a big batch of pancakes for my wife now, hold onto the good each day wherever you find it

top five foods you'd feed glen powell. (this is unhinged, i'm sorry, i've had an entire bottle of wine.)
[ask me my top five anythings!]
His fridge tour in that Men's Health video was a product placement travesty - where's the food??? you live off Cali Water??? - as were most of those vague non-answers where he never actually mentioned what he ate. (My favorite part of those MH himbo videos is the what's in your fridge/what do you eat segments!)
Cheese! This "I don't eat cheese, it is moldy queso" business does not fly with me unless you physically cannot eat cheese for fear of death or veganism. The only instance of "I could fix him" I would ever employ in another human being would be to inspire an appreciation of cheese. Eat a pizza, buddy! Have some lasagna! Gnaw on some aged cheddar. Bake up some Brie. Let Halloumi into your heart. (I also don't understand how a person can be that into college football and not eat nachos. 90% of why I watch the Super Bowl is so that I have an excuse to make nachos! Also is his dislike of cheese limited to savory applications? Is he going through life not eating cheesecake? That's sad.)
Carbs for breakfast! I was tempted to try that sweet potato base breakfast situation he had going on but it did not look appetizing. (Maybe he's a bad cook?) Put it on a croissant! Have a classic bagel & lox sandwich with some nice tomato, capers, red onions. I need more hot men to shill for Russ & Daughters like Jake Gyllenhaal.
The product placement Doritos so we can hang out with Danny Ramirez.
A proper slice of pie, not that garbage Netflix handed him for Hit Man promo that didn't even have an egg wash on it.
I do not know what foods are on a craft services table, but what I'm setting down is chocolate bread pudding (I make the best) or Claire Saffitz's giant ass chocolate chip cookie from Dessert Person. (Each scoop is a quarter cup! It is the size of your hand but so delicious.)

World Baking Day
Cookies, brownies, pies, bread…try out some new recipes, or revisit your old favorites to have a little fun in the kitchen and end up with tasty treats.
Crunchy cookies, chewy brownies, decadent tortes, cute cupcakes, crusty baked bread…baking is an art this world would just not be the same without. Do you even know anyone who could honestly say they don’t have deep, unconditional love for at least one of the above? We thought not! This World Baking Day, it’s time to dig out that rolling pin and prepare something delicious! Surprise a friend, coworker, neighbor or relative with a delicious sweet or savory treat to let them know how much you care, or just make something to enjoy in your own home. However you decide to celebrate this day, make it deliciously unforgettable!
History of World Baking Day
World Baking Day was created to spread the joy of baking all around the world, especially to those who perhaps don’t bake too often and are not particularly experienced at it. This day is meant to show people just how much fun it can be to make a cake or some cookies, and baking can be a great way to spend time with family and friends. Not to mention how much fun it is to eat what you’ve made once it’s done!
It’s incredible that we’ve managed to go so long without a World Baking Day. We discovered evidence that baking has existed for over 14,000 years, proving that we simply can’t live without it! In fact, the first bakers in Jordan created flatbreads, which they then wrapped around meat – potentially the first-ever sandwich in existence. Roman times saw the birth of the artisan baker. Lovers of all things decadent, Romans prized the pastry chef, and those that brought new baked goods to the worlds were ever-popular at feasts and banquets.
In the United Kingdom, by the Middle Ages, baking went commercial, with many trading regulations and rules governing how to bake and sell bread. But everyone’s got to eat, so anyone with an oven was baking bread to feed their families. The delicious, mouth-watering cakes we eat today started to emerge for the upper echelons of society from the middle ages onwards.
Technology also helped upgrade the ovens to help bring better-baked goods to the masses, especially in the nineteenth century. Food was easier to preserve, too, so many people could order in meats and milk from across the country rather than relying on their backyard cows or chickens. Cans also cultivated a new innovation for baking, as meats and veg could be canned and exported from places like Australia.
New baking innovations arrived during WWI and WWII. In America during the wars, baking thrived as people moved to the US, and rationing saw the need for increasingly crafty creations. In America, different flavors from across the world arrived, from Italian cannolis to Mexican Tres Leches. When people couldn’t find fat or eggs during the wars, Applesauce Cake was baked into existence, which is still made today and used as an alternative to eggs and fat in vegan baking.
The increase in prosperity after the war allowed baking to flourish into the foods we love today, all culminating in this event. Enjoy the chance to bake, eat, and be merry with friends and family during this day.
How to celebrate world Baking Day
You don’t have to be a pastry chef specializing in fancy tortes to celebrate this holiday. All you really need is a little flour, sugar and butter and a sense of adventure! One of the best things about baking is that there are thousands upon thousands of recipes to choose from, so everyone is sure to find something to suit their specific tastes. Are you a fan of all things chocolate? Why not make some brownies? Rocky Road Brownies, for example, combine the richness of chocolate with the crunchiness of walnuts and the softness of marshmallows. But perhaps the best news about brownies is that almost all brownie recipes can be made in just one bowl!
If you’re more of a health food buff, there’s no reason for you to feel left out—there are plenty of baked goods that are decidedly good for you, like apple-cinnamon bran muffins or date and oatmeal muffins, and many more. Do you have a rambunctious child who is curious about the world? Why not share the magic of baking with them by making some creatively decorated cookies? Chocolate cherry thumbprint cookies, for example, are both easy and fun to make. Sugar cookies are also very simple to make and lots of fun to decorate with colorful icings and sprinkles. Or are you a bit more experienced at baking? If so, there are also many torte recipes that you could hone your skills making. Apricot Almond Torte, for example, requires you to make your own marzipan. And who wouldn’t want to know how to make their own perfect marzipan?
Or are you a fan of baking but prefer savory to sweet? Why not bake that bread, or create those mouth-watering pies and pastries that we all love so much? Fill your creations with delicious savory treats, like cheese or meat. Vegan or vegetarian? Browse your favorite recipe books for inventions made with flour, salt, applesauce, and sunflower oil. If you’re a budding savory baker, crustless quiches are the perfect way of incorporating delectable fillings in a quick and easy way.
If you don’t have time to bake, you could visit a local bakery instead of buying yet another package of mass-produced, sugary cookies filled with preservatives but devoid of flavor. Nothing is quite as relaxing as sitting back with a cup of coffee or tea and perhaps a book, enjoying a piece of pie.
If you want to share the baking joy with your nearest and dearest, why not invite some friends over for a baking party? It’s the perfect excuse to share your cakes and cookies (or at least the recipes). You can ask them to bring round their favorite cookie cutters and recipe ideas and you can all whizz up a storm in your kitchen. Or you can order in from your local bakery, put on a cooking competition and binge-watch and eat at the same time.
However, you decide to celebrate this day, make sure you and your nearest and dearest enjoy this day and all of its sweetness to the fullest.

Best Autumnal Recipes:
No Bake Spiderweb Cheesecake: Absolutely gorgeous and showstopping delicious with relatively low effort, this one has rather quickly entered my teatime repertoire any year I can find the time to make it! (For the wafers themselves, I'd recommend these, and the spiders can be made relatively easily by melting Rolos on top of a pretzel for about ten seconds, flattening them with the back of a spoon, and adding mini M&M "eyes" and legs from broken pretzels.)
Witch Hat Cookies: As far as cute, easy fixes go, I have a particular love for fudge stripe cookies (or the store brand equivalent) with the chocolate side facing up, topped with a thin ring of purple icing around the center and an unwrapped Hershey's kiss (with another band of purple icing to form the hatband). I'd call them zuckerhutchien but my first-generation German mother would burn me as a witch on the spot, so instead I just refer to them as spooky book club treats.
Gingersnaps: Also an absolute classic; this recipe in particular has been the cause of much appreciation from various friends and professors
Chai Spiced Maple Cookies With Browned Butter Frosting: Definitely a mouthful there, but these remain a favorite for Hobbit Day and the rest of the pumpkin spice season!
Mini Pumpkin Cake: Ach! This is one of the top recipes on my to-do list. It looks absolutely delicious and the absolute perfect size for a small pumpkin spice treat...on that note, please let me know if you've found a vegetarian equivalent to candy corn pumpkins!
Hahaha YES: Candy Corn Pumpkins
Soft Molasses Cookies With Pumpkin Cream Filling: This is more of a transitional treat, but still a nice one irregardless. Personally, I'd recommend baking the cookies a little longer, so you get just enough of a crisp finish on the edge to compliment the cream cheese filling.
Brown Butter Maple Pecan Cookies: I haven't tried these yet either, but some baking communities have been going wild about them, and you really can never go wrong with either browned butter or a nice turtle flavor palette.
Baked Pumpkin Donuts: Skeptical, you may be! "Who bakes a donut?" you'll say! The answer: me. I used to work in a bakery that specialized in donuts and had a pretty good selection of baked (as well as fried) donuts, and the pumpkin is perfect for providing that soft cake-y moisture content. (The batter uses the same recipe as a similar pumpkin cream cheese muffin, and while I can't speak for the author's, pumpkin muffins are quickly getting me through the busiest season in coffeeshops, bakeries, and academics alike.)
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread: What's better than banana bread? Pumpkin bread, of course!! This recipe, with the exception of maybe the chocolate chips (depending on brand, although chopped vegan chocolate bars usually work well) is entirely vegan, not to mention a pretty quick stress-bake to boot.
Pumpkin Scones (Starbucks Copycat): Once again, I'll be honest: I have not tried these, albeit these vanilla bean scones have been a popular favorite and we, as a barista at a local coffeeshop, have a legal obligation to one-up Starbucks at any given point. Definitely a must for the next cup of tea!
Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars: Between Rosh Hashannah and Halloween, we've got to have one obligatory Halloween dessert with some type of caramel apple base!
Happy baking!

We recently became subscribers to @eatstickyfingers cookie of the month club (hiiiighly recommend!!!) This month had n’oreo cookies and these amazing soft sugar cookies. My son keeps asking for more - so I pulled out my favorite cookbook and low and behold their soft sugar cookies are in there!!!! I followed the recipe exactly but sadly halfed it. I am still questioning my sanity - if anything I should have doubled it! They are easy to bake, and delicious to eat. Perfect in every way - and spoiler alert - they are vegan!

tuesday 05/09/2023
I still have a slight cold, but I am doing much better than last week. Last week I also experienced my second blood pressure drop while I was eating pizza. Suddenly, all the color drained from my face (so my Mom said). It took me a while to get back up, but I haven't experienced it since.
Last Saturday, Mom and I went to the Farmer's Market in St. Albert. What an event. About a hundred stalls selling fruit, cookies, jewelry and lots of jerky (juck). I tasted salmon jerky and I have never tasted anything so salty. Mom and I took home a watermelon, cookies, raspberry jam and vegan feta (so incredibly delicious).
Monday I went to the opening of the academic year. Besides a free drink box, salty popcorn (again, yuck) and a Coke, there wasn't much to do. Two chosen students got 1000 CAD, but for that you had to live in Canada :') You also got a free bubble blower. Overall, pretty disappointing.
Today I had my first two classes. This morning I had Global Critical Race Theory, but I don't know if this course is for me. I think I will take Topics in Gender and Social Justice tomorrow to see if I can substitute it with GCRT.
In the afternoon I had Canadian Texts and that was great. We walk around in nature talking about literature, how great is that? The professor is also a wonderfully sweet woman. For our final assignment we are assigned a plant or an animal. We have to go into nature to look for that plant or animal and write about this experience. I am looking forward to it immensely.
See you next time.

Fabulous Friday
Today was a fantastic day.  My sister came to town. We have so much fun together, we laugh ourselves silly, and we just get each other.  Gosh, that’s good for my soul.  We tried to take selfie.
Tumblr media
Our hair is telling you that it was a rainy day.  The McGlaughn girl hair is more reliable than doppler radar.  My Twinkie colored hair (half yellow, half white) is the bane of my existence, but I’m determined to see it through. I’m a granny, don’t judge me.  Look at my lovely sister. She’s always had flawless skin, ringlets, and an adventurous soul.  She’s what you’d call a once-in-a-lifetime woman. Unsinkable. Anywayyyy, today has apparently been all about FOOD.  I feel like I never want to eat again.  We had lunch at Earth Tones Cafe and gobbled up their Chesapeake Artichoke Bagel. It’s an open-faced toasted bagel topped with a mixture of artichoke hearts, spinach, cream cheese, mozzarella, parm, red pepper flakes, and Old Bay seasoning.  Holy Cow.  Earth Tones is a vegan cafe but this did not feel like a healthy choice....delicious, yes, but probably not on the American Heart Associations recommended list.  We made a couple of stops around town and our final stop was Craft Bakery because Mickey had asked me to bring him one of their maple-vanilla lattes.  Well, who goes into a bakery and just buys coffee? Not this girl. Two toffee bars, two blackout cookies, and one brown sugar and cinnamon pop-tart later, we left.  I tell myself that I only buy baked goods as decor.  I love having a few things under this cake dome, just because it’s pretty.
Tumblr media
That doesn’t explain why there’s a blackout cookie missing.  I won’t touch the toffee bars or the pop-tart but those deep chocolate cookies with a sprinkle of sea salt....they call to me. I wish she’d stop making  them.  My thighs can’t take it.   That said, my thighs walked me right up the steps to the Culinary Arts  Center to collect the bowl I painted a couple of weeks ago.  I’d participated in a fundraiser by paying to paint a bowl, and part of the price included a container of soup from Shore Gourmet when I picked up my bowl.  The bowls had been fired and I ran by to get mine.  My bowl turned out okay (I didn’t have enough time!) but I’m very pleased with the soup I chose.  Perfect for these chilly, wet days.
Tumblr media
YUM! After the tasty lunch and that chocolate cookie, I figured I’d better make a veggie heavy dinner.  Taco bowls with cauliflower rice!  My stovetop was busy. Black beans simmered with onion, salt, cumin, a couple splashes of hot sauce, and a little water, cauliflower rice in a skillet sautéing with a sprinkle of salt and a blast of chili powder (fresh cilantro would is perfect in this, but I didn’t have any handy), and another skillet with lean ground turkey seasoned with all the taco spices.
Tumblr media
Add some veggies and it’s a tasty bowl!
Tumblr media
This is one of my favorite quick dinners - full of flavor and checks most boxes for a healthy dinner meal.  Bonus, there’s usually enough left for lunch. Thankfully, tomorrow morning we’re scheduled for a guided hike (more of a walk) at the arboretum. Always informational, but mostly I need to log some steps (and eat some salads).  I’m hoping that all of the laughing today counts as an ab workout.  If only.  If that counted as a workout I’d be thin as a rail with washboard abs.  I laugh a lot but those blackout cookies don’t care. That’s it, my wonderful Friday - time with my sister and too much food. I’m a lucky duck.  I hope that your Friday has been good for your soul.  If not, I hope the weekend fills the gap.  If all else fails, eat a cookie. Sending out some love tonight. Take what you need.

Stay safe, stay well.
