Similarities of Murder On Orient Express / Calais Coach to Danganronpa Despair Time
So like. Hi. I’m Starri. And uh. I’m not very much of a theorist but a few days ago i began to read Agatha Christie’s Murder on Orient Express, also known as Murder in the Calais Coach in America. I’d been searching for a copy for a while until i finally found one from my local library.
For the record, I’ve only been able to read half of the book so far (i have to put it on hold to finish another book which i need to return soon (i can’t renew it as someone wants it)), so I’ll most likely make an updated post that elaborates more on it.
Murder on Orient Express has been mentioned a few times in the DRDT franchise, most notably being in Min’s execution as the last question (Who wrote Murder in the Calais Coach?). A page of it also appears in the Literature Girl Insane (fun fact ive been calling it nonsense literature girl the whole time smh i’m a fake vocaloid fan i’m sorry) MV.
In fact, Agatha Christie herself has been mentioned multiple times in the story. For example, in chapter one, Teruko mentions her (although her name is considerably censored)
Tumblr media
This also reveals that Teruko reads mystery novels (slay!!) which I think is pretty neat lol
For the record, Strychnine isn’t used in Murder on Orient Express, but it’s used on one Agatha Christie’s earlier mystery novels, that being The Mysterious Affair At Styles. I actually haven’t read that yet though since I can’t find a copy myself.
She is also, of course mentioned in the Literature Girl Insane credits. Although the original vocaloid MV has mentioned a ton of Authors (eg. Dazai Osamu, Kaiji Motohiro) that do appear in the DRDT ver, Agatha Christie does not appear in the original vocaloid MV whatsoever, meaning that she has been added deliberately, along with Lewis Carroll (i haven’t read alice in wonderland because i’m a little dipshit sorry i can’t do anything with him) and possibly a few others.
To be honest I do think Agatha Christie herself is somewhat related to the plot, along with other books of hers that aren’t Orient Express.
But I digress. My main topic here is how Murder on Orient Express has similarities to DRDT. Even if I’ve only read half, there’s a few similarities I can find:
1. There are 16 passengers aboard the train
In the novel, there are multiple compartments, however, in the main one, there are 16 people. You know what else has 16 people?? The danganronpa series, mainly, which includes DRDT.
2. The victim has somewhat ulterior motives/secrets
The man who died is revealed to be a murderer, who has changed his name to avoid being identified. At the beginning of the story he asks Poirot/The protagonist to protect him from someone who has been targeting him, which Poirot declines.
How is this similar to DRDT? Well, firstly, Xander, like the victim, died mainly because of their own actions. Xander died attempting to kill Teruko, while the victim died because he was a scumbag that killed. It’s quite far fetched but. Yeah.
3. ‘Charles Cuevas Motive’ and the Handkerchief
The handkerchief from the novel has been embroidered with the letter H. However, H in russian is N. Do you see where I’m going?
In the story, the handkerchief is revealed to belong to a russian woman by the name Natalia because of this.
In DRDT, ‘Charles Cuevas Motive’ or C CU MO is misread as 3MOC until Rose tells everyone to turn the disc.
Both stories have a sort of misreading of possible evidence that end up being clarified after a while.
4. People fainting after seeing blood
In both stories, someone faints from seeing blood: Charles after seeing Teruko on the ground, and Mrs Hubbard (a character) after finding a bloodied knife in her purse (?). Mrs Hubbard says that, just like Charles, it’s due to her fear of blood.
This one I’m almost sure is somewhat referencing the novel.
The end (because i’m stupid and haven’t read the whole book)
Ultimately there’s probably more similarities that I’ve overlooked (there’s most likely something to do with the ‘woman in the scarlet kimono’ ) so I promise to update this soon. But for now. uh. toodles
If anything, i think the references to Orient Express only go as far to the end up Chapter one. I think chapter 2 might be centric to another Agatha Christie book (i have a few theories on which one but like. i’ve only read 6.) so yay i guess
also if someone has already done a theory on this certain topic i’m sorry jd dkdbdjbdks

I swear I've been sitting on this idea for so long cause I'm too lazy (or busy) to write it, and I just HAD to share it with someone. I have a feeling you might enjoy hearing about it, so I hope you don't mind me sharing it with you.
So, this chaotic train of thought started with seeing a gorgeous fanart of Sanji as Flynn Rider from Tangled. Wouldn't a tangled au with him fit so well??? Long story short, It'd be fun to continue it with other characters, kind of like your storyteller series (I swear I'm not trying to copy you 😭). After that, I've kinda been connecting characters with specific stories.
So far, I've got Sanji with tangled. Ace with Little Mermaid (it sounds cute to me). ZORO WITH MULAN.
For some of them, I was thinking about keeping it within the one piece universe while others would be in a separate au, just for funsies.
Now, here's where the brainrot begins. I've been fixating Katakuri for a HOT minute, I have no idea why. Then, out of nowhere, I was like, "OMG, KATAKURI, AND CINDERELLA." I also thought of beauty and the beast, but I'm leaning into Cinderella a bit more.
It just fits so well. It doesn't even have to be in an AU. Like, Katakuri is described as the perfect man in one piece already anyway and the son of an Emperor, he's basically a prince. Plus, I don't even have to make up a fake ball. Just make it BIG MOMS TEA PARTY.
I swear I've been hyperfixating on a Cinderella story with Katakuri for way too long... I really wanna write this but I told myself I would write the tangled fic with Sanji first 😭
I'm so sorry for the long ask, I won't be mad if you ignore it or don't like the idea.
Hello my love! I adore this idea!! I have been thinking long and hard about several Sapsorrow spinoffs, absolutely about the beautiful giant Katakuri - Cinderella is a gorgeous contribution!! I am a sucker for a fairytale au.
Could also very much for an Alice in Wonderland with him also. Tea parties, size differences, an overbearing ruler of a small land who screams and tantrums when she doesn't get her way.... I feel like I'm hindering.
Tangled spinoff with the handsome rogue Sanji, actually being a prince in disguise, travelling the land with his heroine who fights off foes with tales of dreams, songs, and sheer willpower... Sign me up. I want to read this.

Brief Personality: Alice is incredibly awkward, It’s hard to have a true personality when you have been mimicking people for your entire life. But overall she is very sweet if a bit clingy, She doesn’t mean any harm to anyone she is just trying to figure herself out and who she truly is. She does have a bit of.. anger.. boiling underneath the surface however..
Brief Backstory: A long long time ago, deep in the feywild. A mimic was born. All mimics are born as a blank slate of sorts, ready to mold themselves into whatever they see around them. This mimic, was the same. She would copy rocks and trees and mushies, whatever was around her. She called it her “job”, which the adult mimics were amused by.
One day, while this mimic was wandering the feywild not paying much attention to her surroundings. She accidentally slammed her face into a tree, the mimic dizzily rubbed their head as they looked around. This wasn’t the feywild, this was human territory.
The mimic panicked and turned to go back before she heard a sound. It sounded like a child crying. The mimic cautiously followed the sound until she came upon a house in the middle of the woods, she snuck over until she found where the sound was coming from.
It was coming from a little human. The mimic peered in through the windows of the house, barely being able to peek through the wooden planks that boarded up the window. There was a girl, crying and clutching something that the mimic did not recognize.
The Mimic decided, that this was going to be her new best friend. She would visit the human everyday, watching her play, the mimic would shapeshift into different animals and show them to the girl. She liked making her smile and laugh.
One day, the girls mother abandoned her. The mimic tried everything to help the girl escape, but it was no use. She was too weak. She wandered through the forest around the girls house trying to find something to help her. Until she came across an adult fae!!
She ran up to him excitedly. He didn’t seem surprised to see her for some reason, but she brushed that off. She told him about the girl who was trapped, and how she wanted to help her.
The adult knelt down, softly rubbing the mimics cheek. “You want to help so bad, don’t you?” He said, comforting the mimic. She nodded
“Can I tell you a secret?” He whispered. The mimic nodded more enthusiastically. “I have a plan, to save that human girl. She will be alright, I promise.”
“But… If you want.. I have something you could do for me.. Do you want to help?”
The mimic nodded even MORE enthusiastically. The adult reached out his hand and shook the mimics, some sort of glowing aura came out of her, and slowly turned into a mushroom. The adult put it on his keychain and stood up.
He grabbed the mimics hand and took her under his wing. They did save the human girl and the mimic became her official mimic, and the adult fae’s vessel. She took her job VERY seriously. She did everything for the fae, anything he wanted. She was his obedient mimic.
[THIS PART OF THE BACKSTORY HAS BEEN REDACTED DUE TO TIME TRAVEL BULLSHIT, CHECK BACK AFTER THE MYTH IS DONE. ALSO, SOME OF THE THINGS BELOW THIS LINE MIGHT ALSO BE CHANGED DUE TO SHENANIGANS]
After Daisy lost her humanity, The Mimic’s life changed dramatically. The whole world had changed, really. It wasn’t exactly the best change.. but she trusted Daisy, and she trusted Cultivator. She knew that if she just trusted them, everything would be okay.
That was until, Camilla took over the operation. Camilla ruled over this new place with an iron fist, and Cultivator retreated into the background. Camilla had a way of manipulating both Daisy and Cultivator in a way the mimic hadn’t seen before.
But with the two of them distracted, they did not notice the mimic as much. Which was fine with her, she knew they both had important jobs to do. So, she did the next best thing, The mimic could help Camilla!!
She would help Camilla with the people, and she would protect Camilla. She wouldn’t admit it to herself, but she hoped that maybe Camilla would see her as a daughter, like how Cultivator had taken the mimic under his wing.
One day, while Camilla was working on terraforming a new area of this dimension. The mimic was working hard to help, trying her best to impress Camilla. She actually managed to get some words of praise from the woman, which delighted the Mimic.
But, unfortunately, the mimic accidentally called Camilla mom. She genuinely didn’t mean to, but that made Camilla.. snap.. a bit.. She began to scream at the mimic, she had never seen Camilla like that before, it was like she was unhinged.
The mimic tried to calm her down, but Camilla grabbed her by her hair and dragged her into an area she had never seen before, a deep dark forest. Camilla told her that she wasn’t going to let this happen again, she was going to make sure she got the job done this time. She wasn’t going to let her slip through the cracks this time.
The mimic was so confused, she didn’t understand what Camilla was saying. She tried to fight back against her but suddenly she felt her vision turn white, something in the mimic. snapped.
Camilla had cut off the mimics wings, she had brutally attacked the mimic before abandoning her there, however, the mimic survived. When she finally woke up, she was in a pool of her own blood, and completely disoriented.
For the next few weeks, the mimic tried to find a way to escape. But wherever she was, there was no exit. Her magic was so weak, she couldn’t even teleport out of this place. If she could just explain to Camilla, she was sure she would let her out.
She would let her out right?
She had to let her out.
Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months, months turned into years. She didn’t know how long she had been here, snow began to fall, covering the forest and making it difficult to see.
She was so cold, and so hungry. There was no food anywhere, she had to resort to eating tree bark and snow. She was absolutely freezing. She could barely see. She felt herself going slowly insane from the loneliness.
After many years, the mimic became completely unrecognizable. She had gone completely insane, It had been eight years of nothing. Just snow. All snow. It’s all snow.
Until one day, The mimic was wandering, talking to herself. But she heard another voice.. actually, she heard a group of voices.. She began to follow it into a corner of the forest, reaching out her hand, she saw static consume her hand before she clipped through an invisible wall.
She was free.
She had finally escaped.
The walls around her began to freeze, slowly consuming everything she touched. She walked through the different levels and winding turns, the snow followed her wherever she went. She couldn’t escape it.
The Mimic followed the corridors until she found herself in an infinite Swedish shopping complex. She began to freeze over it as well, until in front of her a girl fell from seemingly out of nowhere, into a shelf, collapsing onto the ground.
The girl laid there motionless, The Mimic cracked its neck towards the sound, stumbling forward, shuffling towards the girl before completely freezing. Its eyes locking onto something on the shelf behind the girl. The mimic seemed completely terrified of a bulbous stuffed teddy bear behind the girl.
The girl raised her head ever so slightly, looking between the mimic and the bear. She reached up and slowly squished the bears head, showing the mimic it wasn’t dangerous. The mimic still looked absolutely terrified.
“…pred..ator…. G..onna….e…at me…” The mimic squeaked out, she hadn’t talked in years. The girl, seemingly also having a voice that hadn’t spoken in a very long time replied. “No mouth, can’t.”
The mimic tilted its head before slowly petting the bear. The girl moved to the side so the mimic could sit down with her and the bear. The girl looked at the mimic with a kindness they hadn’t felt in a very long time.
The mimic stared deeply into the girl. Avoiding showing her face fully, as to not hurt her. It grabbed the girls wrist and began to freeze it. She needed to keep her, she needed to make her stay. The girl didn’t try and get away, being slightly suicidal already. She just calmly talked the mimic down.
“That’s rude.” The girl said. The mimic explained how this was the only way she could keep her. The girl moved away her hand and gently told the mimic that she would stay as long as she could. She didn’t need to keep her like that.
The mimic, did not like the uncertainty of this. But the girl didn’t run away from her and didn’t seem to look down upon her. So she simply froze the ground beneath her in anxiety. The girl began to ask questions about where exactly she was, what any of this was actually-
The mimic answered as best as she could without letting her emotions overtake her. She explained her purpose to the girl, how she was a mimic.
“What’s your name though?” The girl asked. The mimic seemed to shake her head in confusion, explaining that she didn’t have a name. Not for a long while anyways-
“Everyone has a name. It doesn’t have to be your real one. I have hundreds of names.” The girl said. The mimic stared at her for a few moments.. before softly saying.. “Ana…”
“My name is M. It’s nice to meet you, Ana.” M said, shaking Ana’s hand. The two of them now surviving this strange place together. The two of them began to explore around. M eventually was able to convince Ana to have her own outfit, despite a lot of protests from the mimic. M didn’t seem to care that she was a mimic at all, which surprised Ana.
The two of them traveled together, helping one another survive. Ana was able to help M clip through the walls into the next section of.. wherever they were. But.. unfortunately they didn’t land in a “NORMAL” part of the labyrinth, they landed on a stage. The two of them got forcibly separated, Ana then was standing before some kind of weird creature.
The creature welcomed her to the GREATEST GAMESHOW OF ALL TIME!!! Ana could win whatever her heart desired!! IF!! She could win!!! :) The creature extended a gloved hand to the mimic and asked her to make a deal.
Ana, naively, accepted. And for the next few weeks was trapped in an endless quiz show of questions she didn’t understand. M, eventually being able to outsmart the creature, found Ana. The creature attempted to make a deal with M, showing her greatest desires to her with its magic. However M was unphased and went behind the podium in order to help Ana.
Ana.. was getting… TIRED.. very very tired.. When the creature asked her another incomprehensible question, the floor began to freeze underneath her feet. And then the walls. The creature began to panic, mimics don’t normally have that strong of a power. The creature tried to convince the mimic to calm down but the sheer amount of power the mimic had scared the creature. The creature broke the deal and threw the two of them out into the void- to god knows where.
The two of them fell downwards into…somewhere completely incomprehensible… Ana had never seen this place before. There was nobody around.. It looked so distorted and glitched, it felt like they weren’t suppose to be there.
The mimic fell to her knees, next to M and began to cry. The ground freezing beneath her. “I..I’m sorry- I..I’m so sorry- th..is is all my fault-“
Ana grabbed her hair and began to pull on it violently. “I-I d don’t even knnoww wh ere w e are… I d donntt know how to get back..” The mimic began to shake violently.
M scanned the room for immediate threats before sitting crosslegged next to Ana. She pulled out what looked to be a hand carved flute and began playing some calming music.
Ana, paused seemingly entranced by the music, she very hesitantly crawled over to M, placing her head on her shoulder.
“I wish I could freeze you so you could stay with me forever.. But I can't do that anymore.. It’s.. “wrong”..” The mimic said sarcastically.
M lowered the flute from her lips. “...l have trouble staying in one place.. If I do go, it won't be on purpose though..” M paused “You're probably the best person l've met in months.”
Ana looked at her like she had two heads. “But I’m a mimic.. I’m not a real person.”
“You got emotions don't ya? I didn't say Human. I said person. Don't let assholes tell you what you are, they just don't want to admit they're being dicks to someone for no reason.” M said.
Ana began to tear up. “I don’t.. think I even count as a person.. I don’t even know who I am- I don’t know my name, I don’t know my favorite things- I don’t know anything..”
M went quiet for a moment. “I don’t know how old l am.. No one ever named me either.. It's pretty easy to feel like you don't exist when you're so busy surviving that you never have time to live.”
M put her arm around Ana, rubbing her shoulder. “Not knowing who you are is an AMAZING place to start a story, and that's all life is, right?”
The mimic smiled, snuggling into M’s side. “Yea.. I guess you're right..”
M looked around and sighed. “I really have no idea how to get us out of here.. This place is a sensory nightmare and I can't tell what's a threat and what's just.. an object.”
Ana tilted her head. “Hm.? Is this.. overwhelming for you..? I've.. never seen this floor.. but this is pretty normal for the hospital..”
M gripped Ana’s shoulder a bit tighter. “The colors are kind of too much and the lights are too bright. That does happen sometimes I guess, but here,, it's like, constant.. I can't help but feel that Nothing here can be described as "Normal"”
Ana paused for a moment. “Hmm.. What is it like where you're from then..?”
M thought. “It depends on where you are, I guess. I travel a lot. But nowhere l've seen is this.. Barren. I've been to cities where steel buildings reach up to a blue sky, where there are thousands of people rushing about caught up in their own lives. If you pick the right road and follow it though, it always leads to a green forest full of wild animals, squirrels and birds and all sorts of creatures filling the place with a feeling of life. Or rolling hills covered in golden wheat or tall corn that people have spent years tending. Everywhere is different, but even in deserts you know there's a feeling of life.”
M looked at Ana, smiling. “l used to love watching the sky at night. If you were in a city and climbed up to a rooftop you could see bright lights reflecting everywhere, silhouettes of buildings outlined in the night... Or lying in a field of grass and wildflowers with no one around for miles, listening to the bugs singing and finding constellations in the stars..”
“If you're far enough away from everything the sky seems a deeper black than you could imagine, with bright pricks of white light shining out against the dark. There's always the one that shines brighter than all the rest, and if you can find it you'll always be able to find your way. People find shapes in the stars and give them stories, too.. I always loved reading about those legends.”
“There's lots of bad things where I'm from. It's not always safe, and it's not perfect. But there were always these quiet moments that made it worthwhile if you'd stop and notice them... People would be cruel or kind, but most people just. Live.”
Ana seemed to stare in awe at M. “You're very lucky.. to have seen all that.. I.. don’t think I’ve seen anything close to that..” Ana paused. “Why did.. you "throw it away".? Did.. something happen..?”
“My mind wasn't a very good place for a while.. I lost someone important and made a lot of bad decisions. I still had people that cared about me.. I cared about them too, so goddamn much but-“ M scoffed. “Fuck... I dunno...”
“I always found another way.. that was what kept me going. When someone gives you two options it's because they really don't want you to do option three. But no one can run forever. I was tired. Hell, I'm still fuckin tired. And l've never been this trapped before.” M said.
Ana paused, looking at M. Before hesitantly grabbing her hands. The mimics hands were freezing, but it was almost comforting.. “I'm.. not good with words.. but I think I understand you.. I.. was alone.. for a very long time.. cold... and alone.. I.. was trapped.. and.. I just.. wanted everything to end.. But.. I escaped.. and- I promise I'll.. help you escape too.. I pinky promise..”
Ana smiled. “That's.. a very important gesture in my culture... fae stuff...”
M looked at Ana, before shaking and collapsing into Ana’s arms. Ignoring the cold. Silent tears were streaming down her face, Ana wrapped her arms around the girl. “I've got you... I promise.. We're friends now..”
M shakily pressed a small stone into Ana’s hand. The mimic looked at it in confusion, it had a name on it that she didn’t recognize. “Is this a gift..?”
M nodded. The mimic looked back at it in more confusion. “Whose.. name is that..?”
M tapped her own chest, Ana’s eyes shined with recognition, and she began to cry. “O h…”
Ana fashioned the stone into a necklace and put it around her neck, whispering her own true name into M’s ear.
“T h a n k you… [redacted]” Ana said, hugging her tighter. “I prom ise.. I’ll p rotect it..”
M in return fingerspelled. “Of course, [redacted]”
The two of them held eachother, both of them finally feeling safe, even if it was just for a moment. They spent the next few days attempting to find a way out of.. wherever they are.
M began to chat with Ana about her adventures and other stories on their way around this place. Ana tried her best to explain how this world works though even she didn’t know everything.
M told Ana of how she had been to this world before, and how after thinking about it.. She’s realizing that someone needs to stop this place at its source. That being Cultivator and Camilla. Ana chimed in with Daisy as well, but M seemed to be incredibly hesitant at the mention of that name.
“Well, there has to be a way out if Cultivator created this, right? Maybe we could go chat with the higher ups..” M said.
“CHAT? With them? You can’t be serious-“ Ana said, shaking her head. “The three of them are incredibly dangerous- none of them listen to reason-“
“They are our best shot at this. I mean, all of them are just people no matter what power they have.” M replied. “Everyone has something they care about, know? There's always a reason behind the methods, even if it is built in insanity.. There's gotta be a way to get through to them...”
Ana began to freeze the ground beneath her, and slowly began to panic. “You don’t understand- We.. we can’t- we just can’t-“
M slowed down a bit, putting her hand on Ana’s shoulder. “Why can’t we..?”
“I don’t want to be trapped again- I don’t want to go back there-“ Ana said, her breathing erratic.
“Trapped..?” M said, softly playing with Ana’s hair in an attempt to calm her down.
“She cut off my wings- She trapped me up there- I don’t- I can’t-“ M cut Ana off by pulling her into a hug.
“I.. deserved it- I’m.. dangerous- I- know I need to go back there- but I- just I can’t-“
“Sometimes... A lot more times than we should be dealing with.. Adults mean "I" instead of "We". And when they make a sacrifice.. often times they're not the ones giving something up. It's not okay. It should never happen.. But it happened to you, didn't it? Sometimes kids make mistakes, and are told they're naughty, or wrong, or sick, because of something they can't control.. And they get hurt because whatever adult should have been making sure they were safe or okay, in some way, didn't.. It's never because of the child.. it's a failing with the people who are supposed to make sure we're safe.” M said.
“It’s not your fault, Ana.” M squeezed tighter.
The mimic broke down crying in M’s arms, completely shattering. M promised her that she was going to fix this, that Ana wouldn’t have to live in fear like that again.
Ana and M made a camp and went to sleep.. When Ana awoke, M was gone.. It was like there was no trace of her left.. Ana was completely alone for a week, wondering what she had done wrong to make her disappear like that.. Until, one day Ana heard a familiar voice.
“Ugh, what is it this time..” The woman paused. “Wait.. I know this place.”
Ana looked at her with tears in her eyes, completely confused. “M…ouse..?”
“A-Ana?” In the soft sunlight it was easier to make her out now. Mouse was different than before. she seemed older, a few inches taller and there was laugh lines around her mouth. She seemed well-fed, pulling into contrast the thin scared thing she was before. the gloves she once wore are now silver gauntlets. She had a harness that seemed to have potions hanging from it, as well as a hatchet and dagger made of some strange metal. her dark hair falls down her back in a braid.
She smiled at Ana. “You haven’t changed a day.”
Ana reached up and grabbed Mouse, pulling her into a hug, her hands gripping into her as if she didn’t want to let go, ever. “Y-you, where did you go?? You've been gone for a week. I-“ She hiccuped. “thought something had happened to you.”
“A.. week huh..? I’m sorry I scared you. I guess I have some explaining to do huh?” She hugged Ana tighter. “I didn’t mean to leave you, I don’t have much of a choice it’s complicated.”
“I- thought I wasn’t able to save you. I..” Ana began to cry. “I don’t know what to do.. I don’t know how I’m going to fix this..”
Mouse’s grip tightens. “It shouldn’t be on you to save everyone. And it isn’t. I’m here now.”
“It's been a while for me. and that's a long story I can explain. But l've had a bit to think about this and I think we should go find the source. Someone, and i think we both know who, is corrupting this place. And I think it's time we got some answers.” Mouse said.
“..So we have to go and see them then..” Ana whispered. “..Fine then..”

Tumblr media
I recently saw this giftset of Neo making these copies, like roses fall out of her pants, and she suddenly has one two or more clones appear alongside her. I thought at that moment. “How do semblances even work or evolve?” there’s no rhyme or reason as to how they even works in universe.
The last time they tried to explain Semblance to the audience Ren told us “It either is something, nothing or entirely unrelated to the point I don’t even know why I opened my mouth.” That’s not me being facetious He literally contradicted himself.
“Some people say this, some people say this, others don’t see a connection at all.” It’s like the snake oil of explanations. If you’re trying to get people to understand the process of unlocking their unique super power they need more to go on than guesswork.
For example they watched HXH and stole hunters and technically semblance and Aura cause that’s what nen is and everyone gets a unique super power from said healing protecting aura.
But at least in Hunter X Hunter they have things like the water divition test, which they give you a glass or water and using your Aura near in tells you what you have as a Hunter.
For a short example: 1. The volume of water changes- Enhancer.
2. The Taste of water changes- Transmuter.
3. Tiny impurities appear in water- Conjurer.
---
Now why do I bring this up? Because Neo’s semblance Evolution makes no sense to her prior abilities. When the series started Neo could project a fake image of herself and others as a glasslike substance or transform herself later on. She literally wore a disguise in the Tournament, she didn’t shape shift into someone missing or a new person, she was wearing a wig and didn’t even bother to hide her eyes from the guy she stomped out.
And it seemed like RT forgot that cause she never seems to use the ability to project fake illusions cause that would of been smart as a get away rather than, standing there and letting Oscar a 14 year old get a punch on her...
But now she makes generic clones like Flynt, Sun and Blake do; and I can’t help but think it be cooler if her illusions were fully solid, so she could project creatures to actually attack, or her semblance went out towards a full room illusion. It’s the natural progression for illusion based powers. (And explain her home randomly appearing in the alice and wonderland world)
But honestly in a better series they’d put them under semblance categories like Blake, Flynt and Sun could go under a conjuror field, or Ruby, Yang and Nora a enhancer, since they enhance parts of their body, Ruby’s speed in comparison to Yang and Nora’s strength. And also explaining to the audience how Semblance growth works, so the audience can keep up and predict where a semblance’s growth can go, and even help out the writers.
I don’t even know how to feel about this semblance’s evolution. Like When Katara stopped the rain completely in the last season of Avatar I felt pride cause I watched her go from barely being able to move with it too manipulating it in full. You know what that is? Growth!
Or Steven from Steven universe who goes from barely being able to summon the shield and getting tired from summoning the shield in full and beyond, making giant walls of shields, then you move onto “Ruby has her speed.” To another separate person telling us what her super power is cause the main character doesn’t even know what it is??? What has Neo done growth wise to get this upgrade? What about freaking ren who just exist?
This is the issue with them not wanting to explain anything, with them making WOR and then retconning them consistently, with them talking about how you can’t run into potholes if you don’t make it a plotline or it’s a cartoon. So is Avatar and it has enough respect and care for it’s own craft to make a coherent and functioning world full of characters and creatures and places we care about.
I wouldn’t save Remnant from a Meteor if it made me rich to do so.
Semblance evolution has no structure, Ren’s turned into a lie detector, Neo’s clones, where will Yang’s semblance go? Or speed or weiss’s bs semblance? We don’t know, and neither do they; because it’s so poorly and lazily defined.
Anyway thanks for reading to this point, if you did let me know how you’d make the semblance system better, I’d love to read those.
Thanks again. -Sokumon

Melanie Martinez songs and the meaning behind them
I’m not gonna put them in order, but since Melanie’s single out is coming out on Friday, I’ve seen tweets saying how Melanie “sexualises babies” which is 100% false. Let’s begin the meaning of her songs starting with Orange Juice. Orange Juice tackles a very serious issues which is eating disorder and bulimia. Nurse’s Office is bullying and tired of ditching school because of the people who are making ur school life a meeting.
Strawberry Short Cake is about sexualising young girls and how no one taught Boys not to touch them without consent. This song tackles sexual assault. The Principal is about powerful (mostly men) who abuse their power for their own gain but ignores the suffering of those around him especially his own country. Mrs Potatohead is about the expectation and what society is accepts as what is seen as beauty by getting cosmetic surgeries on yourself. Mrs Potatohead is a children’s toy where you can change her whatever you want. Show and Tell is about how we put celebrities on pedestal and treat them object for their own entertainment. The ones behind the scenes are putting them on display for their own greed.
Class Fight is about how women compete against each other especially in the music industry and how they fight over the same thing which is mainly attention from a boy. This is also how women tend to be mad at the other woman despite their partner was in the wrong as well. Teacher’s Pet is about the romanticisation of the student/teacher relationships. This song also tackles down the power dynamics involving age difference and grooming. Drama Club is about pretending someone you’re not in order to avoid drama. You’re feel pressure to be someone else when you would rather be yourself and live your own life.
Lunchbox Friends is about toxic friends who only use you and judge for the things you do. They would talk to you in school but ignore you outside. This song is about rather having true friends who understand you. High school sweethearts is about wanting to have a partner who is honest and true loves you. It’s about wanting a committee relationship and hope that the relationship last forever then what you’ve experienced in the past. Recess is about letting go of harmful and toxic people since it’s important to improve your mental health. It’s also artists not having to time take a break because the fear of being replaced. Detention is about how nobody cares about how your feeling unless your making money and the mental torture of pretending to be happy. Dollhouse is about the perfect family outside but behind close doors is different. Dollhouse is a toy that are mainly used by girls who play the games like ‘mum and dad’ to vision their perfect family. Cry baby is a character that is based on Melanie Martinez herself. It’s about how people see cry baby as sensitive due to her empathy. Melanie described cry baby as “a child who experiences adult things”.
Sippy Cup is a story connected to dollhouse's lyrics "don't let them see what goes down in the kitchen". The song is about the lack of being willing to acknowledge reality. Carousel was song that was used for AHS 4th season, 'Freakshow'. The song is about how toxic one-sided relationships can be hoq trying to catch up to love but can't seem move forward. Alphabet Boy is a break up song where you used to date someone who thinks he was better than everyone and try to "teach" you things that you already know. Soap is about being vulnerable and being express deeper feelings such as love. Training Wheels is about moving on to the next step when being a committed relationship. Madhatter is a reference to fictional character from the alice in wonderland stories and some of the lyrics do make a reference in the books. It's about accepting who you are and not caring what anyone thinks even though people may describe you as 'crazy'.
Teddy Bear is about being in an abusive relationship and trying to figure out what went wrong. The person that you were in love was your whole world and even treated you right, but now he hurting you and even going as far as trying to kill you. Playdate is about being in love with someone who only sees you as just a friend so you act like you don't care either. Cake is about having a relationship with someone who just wants to play with your feelings. They just want one thing from you and believe that you're an esay person to manipulate. Lumity and the Illusion Coven Leader?
So I’m really interested in Through the Looking Glass Ruins. Not only because it’s another important Gus episode (and the implications of him being at Glandus and how that can connect to the premise of Escaping Expulsion), but also…
           Luz and Amity are at the library- I’m not sure WHICH library, it could be the one at Glandus, or the one in Bonesborough. But given the mention of ruins, and how the background image that reveals the synopsis shows us what appears to be the desolate ruins of an arena of sorts, surrounded by cloaked statues… It makes me wonder. Aside from the obvious possibility that these statues were real witches petrified by Belos or some other entity;
The title is interesting, because it invokes the sequel to Alice in Wonderland, itself a fantasy tale about a young girl entering a fantastical world… In other words, an Isekai, which fits Luz’s whole schtick in the Boiling Isles! Obviously I should be careful about using the reference in the title as a basis for my speculation; Sense and Insensitivity references Sense and Sensibility, but otherwise has zero correlation with the book as far as I can tell, beyond the idea of King being of higher social prestige and that sort of concept I guess?
In Through the Looking-Glass, Alice goes through a large mirror to enter a fantasy world. The imagery of mirrors intrigues me, because it directly invokes the symbol of the Illusion Coven… And we can bet that the Coven Heads will make their appearances this season, especially with how Season 3 is too short and more likely to be a final battle/climax of sorts. Not only that, but we also have the other plot of Gus, who is an illusionist… And of course, the library reminds us of Lost in Language, and the twins Emira and Edric, who are both also illusionists.
I don’t think the twins would be messing with Amity and Luz again, but then again, maybe Odalia and Alador are making them; We don’t know what will happen at the end of Escaping Expulsion, but if Amity and Luz are still hanging out, perhaps they’re feeling pressured. The concept of illusions also ties back to Luz a second time… Remember Witches before Wizards? And how a puppet demon, Adegast, used illusions to put Luz through a whole segment straight out of her favorite fantasy books, of a special chosen one travelling through a world with wacky companions?
Adegast’s plot appealed to Luz’s sense of fantasy, her desire to feel special and important, as validation/justification for being so ostracized back home. With the idea of illusions, and fantasy worlds, not to mention literary references because Luz and Amity are at a literal library, and it’s brought up the idea in some fans’ heads of like… Luz and Amity going through a fantasy segment taken straight out of Alice in Wonderland.
So, to get it all out of the way; I think the Illusion Head will play a role in this episode, debuting in Through the Looking Glass Ruins as the main antagonist. I suspect that each coven leader will get their own episode introducing and featuring them as antagonists and characters, so an episode hearkening back to Lost in Language, which had the illusionist twins… With a side-plot of Gus the Illusionist, who wants validation; Not to mention the idea of fantasy stories come to life, feeling special, and how that’s reminiscent of Adegast…
I think Through the Looking Glass Ruins could be a major episode for Luz and Amity and their characters. Perhaps as a major stepping point that helps to tie together previous events thematically, the Illusion Head might place Luz and Amity in an illusion even more grand and powerful than what Adegast could dream of; One that places the duo in a saccharine fantasy world. Luz and Amity of course have to navigate this fake world and its inane rules, while exploring their own relationship… Perhaps Gus will come into play, or his story will just be a parallel, I can’t tell. But again, it calls back to Luz and Amity having their own experiences with illusionists, so having them face off against the most powerful Illusionist of all, together, would be a nice culmination of those respective arcs!
What’s interesting is the mention of ruins, and the image we see… It reminds me of that one article description for a ‘Witch Arena’ at the titan’s knee (which foreshadowed Adventures in the Elements), but aside from general ruins, we don’t see any duels occur there, nor is there reference to that site hosting sacred rituals and events for witches. Perhaps we’ll see this actual arena here, or not… This arena could just be part of the elaborate illusion, hence why Luz and Amity encounter it in the library, or they get transported. Maybe the library is next to the ruins, if it’s the one for Glandus or one besides the Bonesborough one.
(Personally I’m hoping for more Amity and the library lore, possibly the return of that librarian who seems to be on good terms with her.)
Like Adegast, the Illusion Head could taunt Luz and Amity with visions and deception… Perhaps hearkening back to Enchanting Grom Fright, by showing illusions of Luz rejecting Amity or vice-versa. Luz and Amity of course have to see through and realize what’s real or not, as part of their character development, Luz’s especially with recognizing reality and not being deluded by fantasy. For all we know, the Illusion Head might cruelly play with their feelings, by having ‘Luz’ or ‘Amity’ confess their feelings to the other… Only to sadistically reveal it all be fake in the end.
Perhaps the ruins will be a part of this illusion world that Luz and Amity confront the Illusion Head at, by the climax of the episode! Or the ruins are/hold some entrance to this fake world… Regardless, we could see Luz and Amity dealing with their ‘fantasy’ of being friends, and possibly more, with the other… Both might want more, but be afraid that’s just fake in the end, or just hopeless romance that only happens in their little fantasy books that they love, and the Illusion Head might capitalize on these insecurities. Perhaps they’ll try to sway Luz with a perfect world, only to change plans when she’s clearly used to that; And Amity, she might need Luz’s help, as she hasn’t faced this kind of dilemma before. Mirrors are symbols of self reflection, so perhaps this will give Luz the chance to reflect on her own feelings for Amity and realize them, to look back at past interactions with Amity and realize the hidden meaning and all new context that comes with what she learns about Amity...
Maybe the Illusion Head will try to manufacture situations, trick the two girls into ruining their friendship, thinking the other doesn’t like them, acting rashly, etc. Perhaps they’ll create a fake scenario that leads one girl to act at the cost of the other, for whatever reason… Maybe Amity will be so caught up in the idea of a perfect world where everything is ideal; Where her parents love her, where her siblings respect her… And where she can confess her love to Luz, and Luz reciprocates. Luz may or may not stumble across and see, and realize, how Amity feels… And we could get some painful angst skin to Grom rejecting Amity’s invite as Luz, but dialed up with the Illusion Head’s more immersive, fake reality.
Perhaps the despair created by the Illusion Head leads to Amity turning to the side of the Emperor’s Coven, losing hope in finding a better life for herself because that’s just ‘fantasy’. Rejecting her favorite childhood stories like Otabin and The Good Witch Azura, attempting to be more ‘mature’, which could also lead to a brief discussion about how it’s okay for older people to enjoy stories for younger audiences! It could contribute to Amity’s constant feeling of shame for who she is, that feeling of inadequacy and not being enough, hiding behind a façade; Hiding the truth beneath an ‘illusion’, which of course the Illusion Head might poke fun at. Maybe offering a literal illusion to help Amity pretend and fit the image of the Emperor’s Coven?
From what we’ve seen, the Illusion Head could be a pair of twins like Emira and Edric, or like Gus, an individual operating alongside a copy. Amity might be directly reminded of the twins and her relationship with them, so this could be an opportunity to explore her relationship with the twins and their past together, perhaps showing what happened between them in the fallout between Lost in Language and Adventures in the Elements.
We could see how she feels about them and vice-versa, maybe look at their interactions throughout the past, with the Illusion Head possibly even taking their appearance and poking at Amity’s memories knowingly. Maybe they pretend to be the twins, hurting and mocking Amity, only for her to acknowledge that while they ARE flawed, they’ve also grown and the real Emira and Edric would never do this- This could help to develop the relationship with Amity and the twins, and her own potential disdain for illusions because of that association with her siblings.
Another thing to note with the Illusion Head is that amongst their two selves, one face smiles, the other is frowning; Invoking the image of the Comedy and Tragedy masks. Fitting with the idea of written stories and fantasies, perhaps the Illusion Head will operate as two halves, one light-hearted, the other morose; And both toy with the idea of Luz and Amity’s story being a tragedy, or a comedy.
The dual symbolism, two sides of the same coin concept, could come with Luz embracing Comedy, the happy ending, while Amity sides with Tragedy, the sad ending. Maybe Amity breaks free of this conception and her and Luz get their happy ending together… I can see the Illusion Head being a MAJOR theater nerd, and thus invoking the kinds of stories and tropes that the two kids are familiar with. And Amity will of course be reminded of Emira and Edric, making her more insecure and uncertain, while Luz might call upon memories of Gus to guide her. Luz and Amity are parallels and opposites, again, two sides of the same coin, and this might be paralleled with the Illusion Head being composed of two halves, with it yet to be seen if both halves are separate individuals or not; For all we know, it could be a witch and an illusion so immersed in the other that they’ve both forgotten who is the real one!
Am I saying Luz and Amity will kiss and/or realize their love for one another in this episode? I can’t say for sure… But this episode might play on the idea of their relationship and its progression regardless. It could end in Tragedy, or Comedy, what a duality- Maybe even both! We’ll just have to wait and see… I’m excited for this, for more Gus, and I wonder if he’ll show up at the end to help, or provide more insight into the idea of Illusions, which will then enrich the other plot of Luz and Amity! The audience might gain a better appreciation for the mechanics of what the Illusion Head is doing.
And of course, the illusions here could lend to a trippy nightmare sequence where the animators can REALLY flex and mess with our heads and the visuals, confusing both the in-universe characters and the real-life audience as well, as we’re uncertain of what’s real or not- Perhaps the ending of the episode could play with this question, with Luz and Amity not entirely sure if what happened was totally real or not or some elaborate dream, and the Illusion Head’s status and actions also uncertain.
So, what do you guys think? Will we get an episode dedicated to Luz and Amity’s relationship, to their pasts with fantasy, with illusions, entering an unusual world together, taunted by the Illusion Head while another major illusionist, Gus, operates elsewhere? Could the Illusion Head serve as a thematic exploration of duality, of opposites and parallels, and how Luz and Amity’s relationship with one another, their dynamic, is built on those foundations?
Will we see Emira and Edric here- Perhaps with Luz and Amity… Or even with Gus, acting as ‘cool kids’ who ARE impressed by him, unlike the students from Glandus High? I’ve always wanted Gus and Twins interaction… I think Gus is also an interesting duality, parallels and opposites, two sides of the same coin dynamic with the twins; Emira and Edric are individuals who are like one, while Gus is his own person split amongst himself and his clone! Both with a knack for showmanship, and wanting to be noticed on some level.
Maybe when all is said and done, Amity grows a greater appreciation for Gus, Emira, and Edric, getting to interact with Porter properly for once, and helping repair her relationship with the twins; Imagining their surprise at Amity suddenly hugging them, only for the twins’ playful wit to melt away into endearing appreciation… Only to finish it off with a practical joke, because they can’t be TOO sappy of course!
I’m really fascinated and I can’t wait to see what we have for store in this episode… Sounds like the first five episodes alone are ALL going to be jam-packed with very important, major events! Wasting no time I see… Alas, because Season 3 is shorter than anticipated.

In which I go back over episodes 1-5 of Serial Experiments Lain in order to collect my thoughts on them before continuing on to a liveblog proper!
(this was done at butt-o-clock in the morning don't @ me for rambling/misspelling/etc)
Episode 1-
Lain’s shadow, and the shadows near her house, have an intensely weird pattern to them- like there's something hiding deeper within those shadows than any other shadows
The focus on humming powerlines, Lain’s asking them to be quiet- something/someone is trying to communicate with her, even this early on
The steam that comes from Lain’s fingers- at first I thought it was an intense imagination, but it felt similar to the steam coming from her computer in later episodes- another early sign that she’s already in the Wired
“Why did you die?” “God is here.” the first mention of god in the show
As a whole Lain’s family seems off; her parents weirdly robotic, inhuman- almost monstrous in their appearances, and her sister distant; lain did not know them well, and so these simulations of them suffer
When another student dies by jumping in front of the transit train, lain has a strange experience of “viewing” the student’s death while surrounded by fog. I originally thought this was more of her powerful imagination, but having since connected the “fog” or steam to computers, i think this was her simulating the event over again in an attempt to cope with her very human feelings
“Come to the Wired as soon as you can.” More communications from “the universe” to Lain
Episode 2-
the night scene at the beginning of each episode has been, mostly, a repetition of itself, with more communications; however, with Lain not present for most of them, who are they directed towards?
The girl in the nightclub Cyberia- looking at her again on a re-view, she does seem similar to Lain, but wears earrings- something I’ve noticed the “digital” Lain in the opening has that differentiates her from the more innocent, child-like, human Lain.
The explanation of Accel cuts to Lain in class- with the camera specifically focusing on her ear. It seems as if, throughout the show, she’s learning certain information without seeking it out.
The first appearance of the digital ghosts, like what would become of the “fake” version of Lain’s sister in a later episode, plus the figure she “imagined” after the train slow-down.
The man with the gun high on Accel- a test for human-Lain? She freezes, drawing his ire, but when he recognizes her as the Other Lain and points his gun at her, she speaks in a different voice- possibly the Other Lain’s? Possibly… a God-Lain’s voice. The man kills himself as if controlled by an outside force, and Lain appears shocked. I think that God-Lain- the one who has been communicating with Lain all this time- took over to ensure that Lain’s failure of this test wouldn’t lead to her death (or possibly, to interrupting her growth and forcing some kind of reset?)
Episode 3-
After the events of last episode, Lain is shaken- she can barely respond to Arisu. When she returns home, her family is nowhere to be seen- possibly because them existing during all of what happened would be detrimental to her growth? But when she falls asleep at her computer then checks on her family again… their presence or absence isn’t shown.
Another case of information about something strange- this time the Psyche- with a focus on Lain’s ear; again, picking up some kind of information.
“We saw someone die right in front of us yesterday, but we’re acting like it’s something we saw in a movie.” lain's friends are the most fleshed out "people" in the simulation because she knew them the best- and that's why none of them could react properly to the murder in that club, because Lain had never experienced what their reactions would really be like to something traumatic like that.
Lain’s Psyche shows up in her locker- perhaps put there by God-Lain?
The first mention of The Knights, who may have created the Psyche. Are they possibly a front for God-Lain?
Lain’s father attempts to leave immediately when she shows him the Psyche- further evidence that he can only react how he’s “programmed” to? The guy in the club who recognizes Lain- God-Lain has definitely been visiting here regularly.
“I saw you once, in the Wired. You were totally different.” God-Lain doesn’t seem to mind folks knowing about her. Is she leaving hints towards her existence for Lain on purpose?
Lain’s sister is definitely more fleshed out than her parents- when the Agents at the door try to tell her to ignore them she seems properly weirded out
Episode 4-
The origin of my connecting steam/fog to computing power- lain has a fan set up to directly cool part of her computer, releasing steam/condensation
Lain’s parents continue to have strange, robotic responses, but her sister seems genuinely concerned for her.
The main “plot” of this episode- the crossing over of the two net games- seems mostly unrelated to Lain? But it does seem to be causing suicides and murders, showing direct interaction between the Wired and the “real” world
I love the speed with which Lain is acclimating to computers and the Wired- contacting a professional for assistance with the Psyche is a great detail
The more adult-seeming Lain- so, possibly, God-Lain- appears to ask the DJ at the club about the game. But, she’s not there when he looks, and after that scene Lain has suddenly learned about and downloaded the game in question. Was it maybe Human-Lain tapping into her latent god powers to learn this information from him?
A Lain travels through the net game, and seems to try to contact a fleeing player. “I can’t go where you are.” The voice sounds much more like Human-Lain? Then the player encounters a child and kills her- seemingly in-game, but then one or more corpses can be seen wrapped in sheets afterwards as Lain watches. Highly unlikely that this guy had a real gun IRL- especially in Japan- so this seems to be more Wired/IRL fuckery.
“My buddies and I think this might be the work of the Knights too.” A point against my theory of the Knights being God-Lain?
“I’ll be able to enter it soon. … Don’t worry, I’m still me.” “Sometimes, I wonder…” Yeah, there’s no way this is a real reaction her real father would have.
“The Knights do not physically exist. They can be thought of as a religion that is spreading through the Wired.” And then this quote feels like another point towards my God-Lain theory!
the two men who were spying on lain... I think might've been actual outside agents given representation so that human-Lain would have the chance to deal with them- which, she did, by tapping into her god-powers to destroy their spy-glasses (which, when she did, caused her computer's fans to go into overdrive to keep it cooled)
Episode 5-
Lain hears directly from a being calling itself God, before the episode jumps to focusing on her sister for most of the episode.
This episode felt like it was jossing my theory- how could this whole reality be for Lain’s benefit if her sister was experiencing strange stuff?
“There is nothing that you don’t know. I can’t tell you a story that doesn’t exist.” On some level, Lain is both God-Lain and Human-Lain. These conversations with the doll, the mask, then fakes of her parents throughout the episode, seem to be more of Lain learning without personally experiencing- being fed information by her other self.
“The other side is overcrowded. The dead will have nowhere to go.” Isn’t this straight up a quote from one of the Romero zombie flicks?
All the talk of prophecy and “fulfill the prophecy”... Lain seems to be on a set path towards entering the Wired, which is part of why it seems like this is just her reliving an approximation of something that already happened.
A connection between the Knights and The Prophecy. The fake of Lain’s sister isn’t the only one to encounter word of the prophecy, since we hear about it from Lain’s friends as well
Hmm… I hadn’t thought of it before, but, mayhaps the fake of Lain’s sister doesn’t show until the strange holo-effects of her water at dinner? None of the really weird stuff happens to her until after… maybe this was a copy of her then, made during that moment before being pushed into this prophecy-horror scenario?
The Lain’s Sister who enters the house crying then sees herself disappears- or, it seems she does, until Lain sees a digital ghost of her, like she had previously seen in the school… after seeming to see this other self of hers, the real Lain’s sister seems… robotic and nonchalant. Was she a full, real person before this happened?
Theory Overall thus far-
my theory thus far is that lain's already living in the wired, and is, in fact, a god there- she is both Lain and The Knights; but, the more human part of her, Lain, is reliving her pre-wired memories with slight alterations in order to help her get to the point where she can accept her godhood.
the opening of the show ties into my theory too- that god-Lain (portrayed in the intro with earrings) is spread throughout the world, controlling everything, while human-Lain (in her much more childish outfit) is just experiencing and trying to understand the world
Things that were pointed out to me-
Arisu’s name is a romanization of Alice (referencing Alice in Wonderland)
Be inc and Copland being old computer companies

Hi! I'm the anon from @/swiftiesleuth. How much of 1989 is about Dianna Agron?
ok it’s been a weird couple weeks for gaylors so let’s go ahead and do this
1989 Is About Dianna Agron - A Compilation of Receipts:
Part 1 - People in The Know.  This tv writer claim 1989 is about Dianna:
Tumblr media
Carina MacKenzie wrote for The Originals:
Tumblr media
a guy named Michael Trevino was a regular on the vampire diaries but was also on a few episodes of The Originals.  He dated Glee cast member Jenna Ushkowitz.  Not only that but he was at Dianna’s 26th birthday party (I know he’s saying hbd to jenna but it’s because her birthday is actually on the 28th of April, which is the day dianna hosted her big party (where they probably celebrated dianna, jenna, and harry (whose birthday is also on April 28)
Tumblr media
anyway as you all probably know (but if you haven’t check out this part of my swiftgron masterpost over @swiftgronmasterpost) Taylor was at dianna’s 26th birthday party and even performed songs for her in the midst of swiftgron’s most active period.
do we know for sure if Micheal was the person who told Carina that swiftgron was a thing?  no.  but he did date jenna for three years and supposedly was good friends with dianna.  it’s possible he was in the know and tipped carina off when he worked with her.
now onto a few song receipts
I Wish You Would
Taylor claims this is a song about an ex driving past her house after they’ve moved to a house close to her.  She wrote it while she was on the Red Tour and it was recorded in 2013.
Tumblr media
People assume it’s about Harry like most of 1989 but there’s just one problem. Harry didn’t move to LA until spring 2014, when taylor had moved to nyc and the track was recorded in 2013 so how could it be about him driving past her house?
Tumblr media
On the other hand, Dianna moved in LA during the summer of 2013:
Tumblr media
Green Eyes - there is debate over Dianna’s eye color sometimes, some people claim they’re hazel.  Green eyes are mentioned again and again on 1989 and it’s true that Harry does have green eyes but it’s also 100% true that Dianna does as well.  A few receipts on that are as follows.  Her character on glee, Quinn, canonically has green eyes:
there’s a famous scene where Rachel tells finn to get Quinn flowers with a green ribbon to match her green eyes:
Tumblr media
at one point quinn gets a fake ID and the license has green eyes on it:
Tumblr media
and Dianna herself gave her own bitmoji green eyes:
Tumblr media
sometimes her eyes may appear hazel, sometimes green, but it’s fair to say that dianna identifies as a green-eyed person (and as someone with green-ish/hazel eyes i get it, i like my eyes to be seen as green to me that’s prettier than hazel)
Style
“Ok Cam I hear you on some songs but there’s no way Style isn’t about Harry right?  His last name is Styles!!!” I hear you exclaim incredulously.
and to that i say NO!
@all-my-possessions breaks this down a lot further but there is an idea that based on the timing of the writing of the song taylor was actually inspired by seeing Dianna dressed up as james dean in InStyle magazine in the UK in early 2014 to write style.
read their “rebel with a clue” post here but it boils down to this picture dianna posted:
Tumblr media
the caption is “rebel without a clue” which is a reference to “rebel without a cause” a famous james dean movie. Dianna seems to be saying this photo was inspired by a picture/styling of james dean such as this:
Tumblr media
Dianna was featured like this in the February issue of InStyle UK and we know Taylor was in the UK when that issue came out.
she wrote Style shortly after and it’s thought that the “james dean” bit was inspired by dianna’s styling and the name was inspired by the fact that she was in a magazine literally called “instyle”
I Know Places
Gonna keep it brief here but harry and taylor never hid anywhere.  they did blatant pap walks and even went to time square to kiss at midnight on new years.  it does not get more obvious and public than that.  dianna and taylor on the other hand were pretty private.
and the coup de grâce, ofc, is
Wonderland
Sure hetlors can try to claim harry has green eyes and grew up chessire but...
from my swiftgron masterpost: Dianna’s favorite book of all time is Alice in Wonderland.  She brought it up in interviews all the time, tweeted about it, auctioned off a signed copy of it for charity, her private Tumblr and instagram account are called whosirmesir which is a reference to it, her private Tumblr is filled with reblogs about Alice, and her public Tumblr was called fell down the rabbit hole.
I have a little joke that for a while dianna didn’t have a personality she just had alice in wonderland.  it is so quintessentially her.
here’s a smattering of receipts on that:
Tumblr media
girl even had a tattoo with a quote from the book:
Tumblr media
as i said her tumblr was called fell down the rabbit hole which is nearly a lyric from the fucking song:
Tumblr media
her finsta name and private tumblr name is “whosirmesir” which is a reference to alice:
Tumblr media
honestly, she never shuts the fuck up about alice in wonderland.  so yeah i think she has a much better claim to the song than harry.
and lastly, harry and taylor supposedly dated for 2 months from early November 2012 to the very beginning of January 2013.  do you really think taylor is singing all these songs about a relationship that lasted 8-9 weeks?
no.  1989 is about dianna agron and i will not be taking feedback.
i think a couple songs (yail and wildest dreams) are about karlie, and a few more (wtny, nr, bad blood, blank space, and shake it off) are about non-romantic situations but the love story told within the album is 100% about dianna agron.

the real lost potential of the Fate series is that Nursery Rhyme is a personification of children’s stories, right? And her form changes or is at least supposed to change depending on who her master is, with the version of her we know and her Alice in Wonderland theme being the result of her Fate/Extra master Alice (and in turn, her continued love for and attachment to Alice is why she continues to take her form). That being said, while Alice in Wonderland is the big theme for her we usually see, she could theoretically take on other forms (as seen in one of Wada Arco’s doujin artbooks, where her 3rd ascension dress changes to an undersea theme when she’s crying over The Little Mermaid).
Now, something you guys might remember if you were big readers when you were kids and/or hang out in the children’s section of your local library, is that there is an entire industry of children’s literature adapting mythology, folklore, religion, and classic literature, as well as a wealth of historical fiction, nonfiction texts, and biographies designed for and targeted at children. Now, let’s assume that all of this, too, falls under Nursery Rhyme’s wheelhouse of children’s literature.
What I’m suggesting here is, had the writers not decided to lock Nursery Rhyme into her Alice in Wonderland theme, Nursery Rhyme could have been the ultimate copycat character, using her nature as the personification of children’s books to mimic other servants. Almost everyone else in the series technically counts as a children’s book character because there’s so many children’s books that retell their stories, meaning that Nursery Rhyme could theoretically show up in forms themed around her fellow heroic spirits, with the only exceptions being characters who wouldn’t logically have children’s books about them (IE she could copy servants like the entire Round Table or every single Greek character, but she can’t copy servants like literally any of the Alters or the Alter Egos minus Sitonai). The power limiter “how do we keep this from being too damn OP” is inherent in the premise - she’d turn into children’s book versions of the servants, who would all be watered down and made less explicit or sugary-sweet or otherwise appropriate for kids, and it’s reasonable to assume that calling on the Kidz Bop versions of heroic spirits would kind of inherently nerf them compared to the real ones.
just. god. this would be a cool concept. I have no idea how it would work - probably something similar to strange fake’s version of Jack - but it would be wild to see. this isn’t even getting into the wealth of regular children’s book characters like dorothy or peter pan that could be called on too............

Carving Pumpkins-KBTBB
Halloween Countdown-Day 15
Prologue: A short snippet of MC and the bidders spending a simple day together carving pumpkins…..but is anything ever simple with the bidders?
Eisuke: “Eisuke,” MC sighed, “You know I would have been happy with an average pumpkin when I suggested we should carve some together right?” They were standing outside in the courtyard of the Tres Spades, watching professional pumpkin carvers carve the world’s largest pumpkin. Although she was hardly surprised by Eisuke’s antics, MC still had to admit she was impressed that he somehow managed to buy the pumpkin, and have it delivered to the hotel as quickly as he did. Eisuke folded his arms across his chest and smirked. “My woman deserves only the best.” MC rested her head on his shoulder, and Eisuke pulled her closer into him. “Thank you Eisuke,” she happily said. Eisuke nodded, and the two continued to watch the creation progress before their eyes.
Soryu: “My pumpkin is bigger than yours!” Ryosuke claimed in triumphant. “No, it’s not!” Samejima snapped back at his rival. Soryu had caught everyone off guard when he suggested the Ice Dragons take the day to have a relaxing get together, so they were spending the day at headquarters carving pumpkins. “Both of you shut up already,” Soryu snapped, before turning his attention back to MC. He stuck a candle on the inside and lit a match so they could check out their finished pumpkin. “I love it Soryu,” MC cheered and clapped her hands together. The pair had carved a cute kitten, and Soryu softly smiled at her. “I’m glad you’re happy MC,” he admitted, “Our kitten is cute, and that reminds me of you.” MC kissed her boyfriend’s blushing cheek, before they went to decorate the rest of the office for Halloween.
Ota: “Ota, that looks amazing,” MC exclaimed in admiration while she examined the pumpkin. Ota told her she couldn’t peek until he had finished carving, and he had finally finished his masterpiece. A beautifully detailed dog was carved onto the surface, and MC couldn’t believe how realistic it looked. “Well of course it does,” Ota responded smugly, “Afterall, I had the best model right here to work from.” She was too busy scowling at his comment, to notice that Ota had now turned the pumpkin around. MC’s eyes widened when she realized what he was now showing her. “I was obviously talking about you being the perfect model for this bluebird,” he gestured towards the second carving he made on the opposite side of the pumpkin. “You may be my Koro, but you are also the bluebird in my life, that always inspires me to do my best. I wouldn’t have any motivation if it weren’t for you.” His sweet words brought tears to her eyes, and he handed her his handkerchief. “Dogs don’t cry Koro!” Ota teased and stuck out his tongue at her. MC rolled her eyes, but she wouldn’t prefer Ota to act any other way.
Baba: “Great job princess,” Baba praised MC for her carving job. MC groaned in frustration while she was glaring at her misshapen hack job on the pumpkin. She knew Baba was only trying to make her feel better, but she couldn’t help but feel disappointment considering she butchered their only pumpkin. “Im sorry Baba,” she responded dejectedly, “I’ll go buy a new one tomorrow, and I promise I won’t touch that one.” Baba grabbed her arms and rested his forehead on hers. “But this is the perfect pumpkin for me,” Baba reassured his sulky girlfriend, “The person I love more than anything made it for me.” Baba suddenly had an idea and excused himself before rushing out of the room. He came back with a bouquet of flowers and put them right in the middle of the pumpkin. “There! Now it’s perfect! I get to admire these beautiful flowers that remind me of you, and the creation you made,” Baba sweetly declared. Nuzzling against her, MC silently gave thanks for being so fortunate to have a man this wonderful in her life.
Mamoru: “What a pain,” Mamoru grumbled, “This is such a childish thing to do.” Despite his complaining, Mamoru was following MC’s instructions on how to carve the pumpkin. “Just admit that you’re having fun,” MC beamed. He had just finished carving the design, and MC had begun her role of decorating the pumpkin. She finally finished, and MC was proud of their work. Mamoru had carved a spider web, and MC had glued on a fake web, along with some plastic spiders. “Mamoru, what do you think of-,” she couldn’t quite finish her question, because she caught Mamoru with his phone pointed at her. Seeing the grin creep onto her face, Mamoru’s face turned red, and he tried to justify the situation. “It’s not what it looks like!” Mamoru embarrassingly exclaimed, trying to cover up the fact that he was taking a picture of her with the pumpkin. She nodded her head, but deep down knew he was full of it, and she couldn’t love him more for it.
Hikaru: “Hey idiot! I thought I told you to wait for me,” Hikaru yelled when he saw MC attempting to carve the pumpkin. MC had been struggling to stick the knife in the pumpkin, and Hikaru raced over before she ended up hurting herself. “Here let me help,” he ordered as he stood close behind her. MC blushed when she felt his hot breath on the back of her neck, and his large hands covered hers. Together, Hikaru helped MC make the first cut, and they worked cohesively to finish their creation. “Thanks, Hikaru,” MC praised him, “I really think it turned out perfectly. I couldn’t have done it without you.” “I only helped so you wouldn’t cut yourself,” Hikaru shyly muttered under his breath. “Idiot,” MC said before kissing him, “You’re not a very good liar Hikaru.” He started to tickle her, and the two were soon chasing each other around, enjoying every second of their playful time together.
Luke: “Um, Luke? What is that exactly supposed to be?” MC questioned as her boyfriend continued to carve away at the pumpkin. She had a feeling she already knew the answer to her question, but she decided to ask him anyway. Luke turned his attention away from the pumpkin and shot her a startled look. “Don’t you recognize this Sexy Bones?” He held up an x-ray he had been using as a reference. “Your collar bones of course,” Luke confidently told her. “Well, at least a pumpkin with a carving of bones, won’t stand out in a doctor’s office,” she sighed in relief. Luke’s face suddenly turned dark, and he frowned disapprovingly. “This is MY pumpkin! No one else gets to see your collar bones but me,” he sadly pouted. MC’s heart broke when she saw how sad he was about the thought. Wanting to make him feel better, she wrapped her arms around his neck. “Let’s keep it in our bedroom then,” she proposed. He smiled at the suggestion and nodded his head in approval. “Great idea! We’ll call it Sexy Bones Jr.,” Luke happily hummed before skipping off with the pumpkin into the bedroom.
Shuichi: “I really don’t think carving a pumpkin needs to be so complicated,” MC said while watching her boyfriend skim through articles on pumpkin carving. Shuichi had insisted on researching through different techniques to find the perfect one, before they could even begin. “If I’m being required to engage in this silly activity, then I need to make sure we are at least doing this right,” Shuichi sighed. MC knew they would be here all day if he got his way. Acting on an impulse, MC grabbed the knife and stuck it straight into the pumpkin. Shuichi gasped, and ran over to assess the potential damage. “What do you think you are doing?” Shuichi yelled, wondering if MC had lost her mind. “You need to relax,” MC scolded the uptight man, “Let’s just have fun and carve something on an instinct.” Very reluctantly, Shuichi followed her lead, and soon they had made a scene of ghosts floating around in a graveyard. “I have to admit that was more fun than even I anticipated,” Shuichi grinned, “Thank you for always bringing out the best in me.” He leaned in for a kiss, and MC made a note to plan more activities that would bring out this soft side of Shuichi more often.
Rhion: “It’s the only pumpkin in the world that’s fit for Wonderland,” Rhion boasted. Rhion and MC had managed to carve out a decent looking copy of his cat Cheshire. Cheshire had been sitting on the chair nearby and gave a meow of approval. Rhion placed their pumpkin at the center of the table and poured some tea for the both of them. “This is great Alice,” he chattered in excitement, “We managed to create the perfect centerpiece for the tea party tomorrow!” MC drank her tea, and soon felt Rhion’s presence behind her. “Though this may be the perfect decoration, the real focus tomorrow will be your beauty,” he whispered in her ear. Blushing, she turned around to see Rhion’s grinning face staring at her. “I can’t wait to see what other creations we make here together in Wonderland,” he suggestively stated. MC didn’t care what he meant, realizing she would get lost with him in Wonderland anytime.
Feel free to check out my Masterlist!

AU Thursday: Alice Vs The Questionnaire I Just Made
Because it would be remiss for me to send it out into the world and not answer it myself, right? ;p
1. How many of the sidequests did your characters do? Did they manage to complete all of them?
Alice completed most of the sidequests, mostly because I find them interesting, they're good to advance the plot of my story, and -- in-game -- they're good sources of XP. The only ones I skipped/failed were (Edit: naturally I forgot a few on my first posting; what can I say, there’s a lot of side quests!):
Drug Trip -- The Unofficial Patch Plus only quest where you can get some XP and +1 Finance by stealing some drugs for Trip from the clinic. In-game, I completely forgot this was an option and never did it. In-story, Alice is trying to get drugs by more legitimate means for Mercurio rather than steal morphine, so I don’t think she’d be keen to get the recreational stuff for Trip.
Daydream Believer -- Only marked as an official “quest” by Unofficial Patch Plus, this is where you can sell Copper “unicorn blood,” fang-blunting gum, and a stake to kill the head vampire if you’re feeling maliciously playful. Alice was not -- in fact, she likes the Thin-Bloods and wants to help them. And that includes sympathizing with Copper about his desire to become human again, while also warning him off doing anything stupid.
Replanting A Lily -- The quest where you send Vandal someone to replace Lily in his blood-draining chair once you’ve freed her as part of Thinned Blood. In-game, I simply Demented him into some hysterical laughter to forget the whole thing (in case I needed him for emergency rations). In-story, Alice slammed him up against the wall and informed him the only reason she wasn’t about to kill him was because she needed to stay in the Voerman sisters’ good books. Vandal being Vandal, he immediately found this the sexiest thing that had ever happened to him and tried to give her free blood (like might happen with the Intimidation option), which she told him to stick where the sun don’t shine. Yeaaaaah, Alice doesn’t like Vandal.
Occultish Personality -- The quest where you get occult items for Pisha, and she gives you powerful items in return. Rather than work with Pisha, I had Alice kill her after taking care of the Simon business. This was purely a character choice, as I didn't see Alice ever working with her (she disapproves too strongly of what Pisha does to sate her Hunger -- she understands that the woman is under a pretty nasty curse, but the entire camera crew?!).
Venucide -- Okay, this is an interesting one -- this is the alternate side quest you get if you take Boris up on his offer to kill Venus during And Her Name Was Venus. I didn’t do this in-game -- I’m not doing low Humanity with Alice, and besides you earn a lot more with Venus alive and giving you club profits -- but I mention it because Alice pretends to take the offer, goes back to Venus, and works with her to fake her death before going back to Boris to get the reward, then kill him. Venus is quite tickled by the whole thing. XD
Dirty Dishes -- The quest where you help one of the three Giovanni relatives at the party to gain an advantage over the other two. I attempted this one, with the intent of having maybe Victor or Victoria do something with the info in the story (as they're the ones actually doing the social stuff -- Alice snuck in Obfuscated with them), but as it turned out, I didn't have the Persuasion necessary to get the dark secrets out of all three. I only managed to get Adam Dunsirn to admit he’s broke -- ratted him out to Mira for an experience point. Ah well. . . In-story, Victor will probably learn Adam’s secret while socializing, but not actually tell anybody.
Model Citizen/Cover Girl -- Imalia's quests -- either planting webcams to spy on her rival Tawni, or (if you piss her off/want extra XP after the previous quest), getting her a copy of a magazine with her on the cover back before Nosferatuing. Imalia is one of those characters who reacts very poorly to meeting a Malkavian, and is generally pretty conceited, so I didn't have Alice stick around to actually get the quests. By this point in the story, she's not doing favors for people who treat her like ass unless she has to.
Poster Session -- The quest where you trade various objects you can collect around the world to Gary for posters of the ladies in the game. Okay, in all actuality, I am doing this one in my game, if only because I'm collecting the objects he's asking for anyway while doing other quests and I might as well, but Alice in-story wouldn't be interested, and I'm not sure Gary would make the offer anyway, given their relationship.
2. How long do you think their stay in L.A. lasted, from Embrace to ending?
I'm working on figuring this out right now in my current playthrough! Part of the reason I fired up Bloodlines again was to actually work out a timeline for "Londerland Bloodlines," as the one given on the wiki feels absurdly short (and cuts out all the side quests). The way I've currently got it, it looks like Alice's Adventures In Los Angeles will stretch from October 21st, 2004, to the middle of November that same year (maybe about the 15th or so?), though I think I'm going to be adding in extra time in the story to help develop relationships and build in some extra breathing room for the characters. So, at a rough estimate, about two months.
3. Which ending did they go for? And if they're the rare Kindred who sided with Ming or LaCroix, did they somehow manage to escape their canonical fates (blown up/sunk to the bottom of the ocean)?
Alice is Independent all the way -- by the end of the game, she neither likes nor trusts practically anyone in the Kindred/ghoul community of L.A. (with four key exceptions, and one of those -- Beckett -- has already skedaddled by the end game) and just wants out. Hell, she would have left earlier if she'd gotten the chance -- she would have happily left L.A. the moment LaCroix sent her up against the Sabbat alone if said Sabbat hadn't kidnapped Lizzie and Victoria, and she would have just left straight after rescuing them and killing Andrei if she hadn't had a guilt attack about helping to get a Blood Hunt called on Nines and deciding she had to tell him about what Ming-Xiao told her. And the Cabbie is the one who talks her into taking down LaCroix and Ming-Xiao when she escapes the Blood Hunt, telling her that the only way to truly feel free is to make sure neither of them can come after her again. She is only too happy to leave the city when everything and everyone is done and dusted.
(Also, semi-related I had what I feel is a pretty awesome idea regarding why she gives LaCroix the key -- a post in the vtmb tag mentioned that anyone who had Auspex might be able to scan the sarcophagus and see there's no uber-vampire inside. The way Alice uses Auspex in her story, it functions partially as a real-life "Shrink Sense,” to fit with her madness. Maybe, at the end of the game, Alice finally uses Auspex on the sarcophagus to see what she can glean, and sees that a) there's no vampire and b) the Insane Children have drawn jack-in-the-boxes all over it, along with arrows to leave. Figuring LaCroix can suffer the disappointment of it being empty, she drops the key and heads off, not QUITE realizing WHY the kids told her to leave -- that is, until her Wonderland friends start BOOKING IT out the door when she gets down to the lobby, and she realizes those jack-in-the-boxes look like her own Jackbombs. . .)
4. How do they feel about the major power players in L.A. (LaCroix, Strauss, Smiling Jack, Nines, Isaac, Ming-Xiao, Gary)? Did their opinions of them change at any point thanks to a quest or just more time spent with them?
LaCroix: Hates him from the moment he Dominates her into leaving the Nocturne Theater instead of bothering to answer any of her questions. She's willing to keep her head down when she's around him (for fear of more Domination) up until Grout's mansion -- then she starts demanding she be paid like a proper employee, at least, and getting a lot snarkier in his presence. When the Blood Hunt on Nines was called (which involved him Dominating her AGAIN so she wouldn't warn Nines beforehand), she was about ready to gut him, and sincerely hoped there was something in that damn Sarcophagus so it would eat him. She doesn't particularly mind he got blown up in the end -- she was much more concerned for anyone else who was in the upper levels of the tower.
Strauss: She found him a little condescending, but helpful, when she first arrived in Downtown and sought him out. (Didn't think much of his poetry skills, though.) He gave her some good information on vampires around the city and the Camarilla in general, and she can't deny he paid well for helping take care of the plaguebearer situation. Her opinion of him plummets the moment she learns about his role in creating the Gargoyle, though. The idea that he kept that living, thinking being as his slave. . .not to mention, his low opinion of ghouls doesn't do much to endear him to her either.
Smiling Jack: Like Strauss, she spends most of the game thinking he's not exactly the best company, but he was helpful and gave her a hand in a very tough spot in her life. And he seems to be the most chill of the older vampires she's come across.
And then the sarcophagus explodes, Alice manages to put together the clues on who's behind it, realize he slaughtered all those people on the Elizabeth Dane and is indirectly responsible for a lot of the shit she's gone through. . .and basically exiles herself from Los Angeles forever by staking him and leaving him for the sunrise on her way out. (She is as shocked as anyone that she managed to pull it off -- she thought it would be a much worse fight!)
Nines: Alice is grateful to him for helping to save her life at her initial trial, and she likes his philosophy just fine. Unfortunately, their relationship was wrecked fairly early on by two factors:
1) Alice making a joke about the Last Round, which Nines took poorly -- Alice attempted to apologize, but Nines refused to hear it
2) Alice not liking Skelter and Damsel, both of whom immediately gave her shit for being LaCroix's "lapdog" and a Malkavian
So yeah, there was definitely some tension there. And the whole Blood Hunt mess happened, and frankly Alice is shocked Nines was willing to talk to her when she went looking for him on her way out of L.A. post-Sabbat. She sometimes wishes they'd had a chance to make up, but given that she doesn't think much of the Anarchs in general anymore. . .she's not losing sleep over their cool relationship.
Isaac: He's one of the main reasons she doesn't think much of the Anarchs in general. She thought it was pretty smart of him to have someone to direct vampires new to Hollywood to him to say hello -- up until he mentioned "tribute." That and his generally imperious attitude toward her at first means she considers him just another Prince under a different title. Learning what happened between him and Ash didn't help either -- she can understand not wanting to let someone you care about just die, more than she would admit, but he doesn't seem to have handled things well post-Embrace, given he didn't do jack shit about the hunters menacing him. (Hoping the threat would drive Ash back into his arms, perhaps?) Add in that he didn't even pay her for taking care of the Gargoyle (never mind Alice didn't actually kill it -- she still convinced it to leave), and -- yeah. She considers him everything wrong with the Anarch movement.
Ming-Xiao: Alice considered her fairly stuck-up when they first met, but really no worse than any of the regular Kindred she'd met -- and it was interesting to quiz her on how Kue-jin are different. Of course, learning that the Mandarin was on her payroll and she's actively trying to kill her lowered her opinion of her a bit. She actively avoids Ming-Xiao after the Fu Syndicate stuff, and nearly just puts her new enchanted katana straight through her when she shows up post-Sabbat. She certainly doesn't shed a tear when she has to destroy her at the end of game.
Gary: Alice thinks he's a bit of an overdramatic jerk, but she kind of enjoys matching wits with him. And at least he's more honest about being a jerk than most vampires, and keeps up his end of the bargain when she frees Barnabus, no problem. Whatever relationship they have is built upon snarking at each other, basically. :p
5. How did they handle the situation with Heather (or, if you're like me, whoever you replaced Heather with in their personal story)?
Obviously, in my world, Victor got hit by the car and got the ghouling treatment. Alice saw him lying all alone in that room and -- couldn't let him just die like that. She's utterly horrified to learn that she created an addict by doing so, and actively has Betram and Knox seek Victor out (using the Cathayan's laptop as payment) and send him her way so she can keep an eye on him and hide any Masquerade violations he may commit. Her original intent was to hold onto him until he stopped being a ghoul, then quietly set him loose, away from prying Kindred eyes. . .
. . .And then she fell in love.
Cue quite a lot of angsting over the fact that she doesn't want to lose him, but she feels so guilty about the Blood Bond and she doesn't know if Victor's feelings are actually real -- which only gets worse when Victoria and Emily join the group, as then she's like "I should let Victor be with one of them -- oh crap I like them too, what the hell Alice, years of not falling in love and now it's two mortals and a zombie." It took Mercurio explaining that his Blood Bond does not actually force him to like LaCroix, just be loyal to him, to convince her that keeping Victor -- and turning Victoria into her ghoul -- might not be as bad as she feared.
And then Victor had his prophetic dream about the Sabbat. He and Emily successfully fled the city (the "letting Heather go" branch of her mini-storyline), but Lizzie and Victoria got captured by the Sabbat and used as bait for a trap for Alice (the "Heather gets captured and killed" branch). Unlike in canon, though, Alice is able to successfully save them (with the help of Bonejangles, VV, and Bertram), and ghouls Victoria to help her heal before sending them away. They all reunite once she's done with the endgame. :)
6. More generally, how closely does their storyline stick to how you have to do things canonically? For example, in quests, did they find third options that weren't offered by the game? Are their stories affected by mods you use while playing the game?
I play with the Unofficial Plus Patch, so there's going to be some stuff from that included in my story, just because that's what I'm used to -- for example, Alice is doing the restored library quest featuring the Lasombra in her storyline. As for the main storyline itself, I'd say that, even with the character replacements and suchlike, it stays pretty much true to the game until about the time Alice hits Hollywood -- namely because I've replaced one-shot character Sam with Victoria, who has a much larger role in "Londerland Bloodlines." After that, it starts to veer off a bit more, in particular during "Italian Dinner," where Emily, Lizzie, and Bonejangles join the party --
But the most major break with canon is in the endgame. Namely, Alice decides to skip fighting her way up Venture Tower and instead climbs up the outside with the help of some climbing equipment she sources from Mercurio. :p Lacroix is more than a little surprised. XD (Though she still has to fight the bat-form of the Sheriff -- can't escape the whole boss fight, Alice!)
7. Do they have an alternate storyline/history of what might have happened had they been Embraced but not ended up the protagonist Fledgling?
I covered that a couple of weeks ago! You can read the "Mistakenly Thinned Blood" AU of the AU in detail here, but the short version is "Alice is Embraced more secretly by her sire Fish, manages to kill him post-Embrace, goes to Santa Monica, and ends up hanging out with the Thin-Bloods because everyone thinks she's one of them. Still saves Victor, meets Victoria, and rescues Lizzie, Emily, and Sam from the Giovannis, though -- and then gets out of town before the freaking-out populace who just learned what she actually is can catch up with her."
8. Is the Cabbie a) Caine, b) another Kindred who believes himself to be Caine for whatever reason, c) another Kindred playing the long con by pretending to be Caine, d) something else entirely?
He's Caine -- I like the headcanon, and the idea of him posing as a random taxi driver in L.A., looking upon all this chaos and wondering "why. why." amuses me. XD
9. How do you handle/explain away obvious "this only works in a video game" mechanics in their storyline (e.g., the inventory system that allows them to carry like seven guns and five melee weapons at once)?
With me, Alice is going to be carrying a lot fewer weapons at once -- she'll generally pick a few favorites to take with her on missions (she always has a knife on her, at least), and uses Obfuscate to truck them around invisibly when she's in crowded areas. She probably also gets a bag or backpack to carry useful things. She also goes through a lot more clothes until she gets some decent leather jackets and such -- her starting outfit is basically wrecked by the tutorial mission, leading to LaCroix's agents having to buy her a new dress before she can pick up her things and go to her new haven in Santa Monica. (I have decided to make it Symbolic by having her wear the modern equivalent of her London outfit from A:MR when she gets Embraced, and the outfit being destroyed representing her change from human to vampire.)
10. How do you explain why the Fledgling is so ridiculously overpowered when compared to most other vampires their age (beyond the fact that they're likely 8th generation, going by their blood pool)?
My personal explanation, which might come up in the final conversation Alice has with Caine in the cab, is that some people in this universe are born with great supernatural potential, for whatever reason, and Alice is one of them. There's just something about her that lends itself well to being a supernatural creature -- and a powerful one at that. If she'd been from a werewolf line, she would have been an amazing werewolf; if she had awakened as a mage, she would have been a super-talented mage. As she was Embraced, she gets to be a terrifyingly strong vampire. Alice personally considers this a pretty shitty "chosen one" status, but she can't deny she liked getting really good at Obfuscate really fast!

How Do You Sleep? (Shelby Sister fic)
So, for the first time ever, I’m posting my work on Tumblr as well as AO3. This fic will follow a slightly altered timeline for the Shelby’s, as another Sibling is introduced (and John is still alive). Any thoughts/comments/questions are appreciated. I’m hoping to make this a whole story, but bare with me as writings block is strong atm.
Chapter 1
St Abigail’s School for Girls, Sussex
“As you know from the letters we sent Mr. Shelby, we had a few tense years to begin with. But, considering her upbringing, that was to be expected,” the woman Tommy was following spoke plainly, unbothered that she had just openly insulted him and his family. He nodded along though, hoping the insult would counteract the fact that he had never read any letter the school had sent him. He never saw the need for the correspondence, it was their job to deal with any problem, and what could he have done from Small Heath anyway?
“The recent years have shown a remarkable improvement. I would go as far as to say she’s now one of our model students,” the woman continued talking, as she led him down yet another never-ending corridor.
Her words surprised Tommy greatly. He had hoped he was coming home with an average report at best, even that would have been better than the rest of the Shelby’s put together. Well, except Michael, and possibly Ada, although Tommy knew she only liked to think she was better than her name after living in London for so long. A ‘model student’ was much more than Tommy was expecting, especially when he remembered who he had brought here all those years ago. The thought made him apprehensive to see who he would be taking home this afternoon. If she had changed so drastically, how would she fit back into family dynamic again?
“I apologise again for not being able to keep her here until her 18th Birthday, but we really need the space back for some of the new girls coming before September. And now she’s officially finished, we can’t legally keep her here. I know you’re a busy man Mr. Shelby, but you’re only her legal guardian for a few more months; and the last I heard there was talk of University,” the woman stated. To Tommy’s ears, she sounded more excited than she had any right to be. University was a word the rest of the family barely knew, it was sure to go down like a led balloon if it was ever brought up.
Before the woman could add anything else to her one-sided conversation, she finally stopped walking. She had brought them before two large mahogany doors, that looked just as heavy as Tommy’s heart felt in that moment. The two brass knobs attached felt more domineering than anything Tommy had faced in years, including his now frequent trips to Parliament. He would rather face unrelenting Politicians than whoever was waiting for him on the other side of these doors.
Tommy was able to take one deep breath before the woman pushed the doors open, forcing him to step inside. Tommy took the room in for a moment, finding it similar to his study at home. It felt just as luxurious, and ironically just as fake, as his own. His gaze wandered until it reached the one high-back leather chair facing away from him. From there, his gaze got stuck on the top of the head that was peeking out at him, covered in hair that looked incredibly similar to his own.
“Alice?” Tommy jumped as the women’s who brought him here spoke, he had forgotten all about her. As she spoke, she began to approach the girl in the chair, whilst Tommy’s feet felt frozen to the ground. “Are you ready to go?” the woman asked with a smile, “Mr. Shelby is here to collect you.” Either the girl in the chair did not answer, or she spoke so softly Tommy could not hear her, but before he could register what was happening, the girl in the chair stood up.
Tommy held his breath as the girl turned around to face him. He averted his eyes away from her face as soon as she turned, he could not bring himself to look into her eyes just yet. Instead, the first thing he took note of were her hands. Whilst one was cradled loosely in a fist, the other was delicately holding onto a book. With her index finger marking the page she was on, the book was turned so Tommy could read the title. Tommy’s instantly recognised the book and the cover, it was the same copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland he had dropped her off with. Based on the tattered look of the spine, Tommy guessed this was not first time she had reread it. A twinge of guilt pierced Tommy at that thought, though he could not explain why.
Tommy knew he was making the situation more awkward than it needed to be, refusing to look into her eyes, and not even greet her, but something inside was stopping him. In truth, he just did not know what to say, for once. He had spoken to all manner of people over the years, and with his newly attached title, making small talk was an almost daily occurrence to him. But this was different. It was foreign but familiar. The last time he had seen her, she was ten, and did enough talking for the both of them. She could have talked for hours on end, about horses, and playing, and reading. But now, he had no idea what the girl in front of him would want to talk about. She had lived a separate life for the past seven years, alone, independent from the rest of Shelby’s and Small Heath. Another pang of guilt hit Tommy at that thought, though he knew why this time. It felt like the only similarity between now and seven years ago was the book she was holding.
Tommy knew he had stalled for long enough. He lifted his eyes up, knowing it was time to greet the girl in front of him. However, when their eyes connected, he still found himself at a loss for words. His mind was racing trying to think of something to say. If he could not say something now, how would he cope in drive back to Birmingham? He should have brought John or Arthur, or even little Charlie with him. All three of them would be able to break this silence easily, even just by saying nonsense. Tommy opened his mouth in the hope that some words would fall out, anything would do at this point.
However, just as he did so, a small smile came across the young girl’s face. For the first time, he noted she had an air of patience around her, a trait he never remembered her possessing before. It felt as though all she was waiting for was for him to finally connect his eyes with hers, because when he did so, she was the one to break the silence.
“Hello Tommy,” she said in a voice as soft as her smile, something that should have warmed Tommy’s heart, had he not noticed a hard look instantly cross over her eyes. “Long time no see brother.”
Arrow House, Birmingham
“Why the fuck are we going to all this effort Pol’?” John complained, watching yet another maid flit about the room, cleaning up non-existent mess. He was exhausted just watching them.
“Yeah,” Arthur piped in from behind the newspaper he was reading, “it’s not like she’ll notice, she’s the messiest of us all.”
Polly rolled her eyes at her nephews. Alice did use to be the messiest Shelby, but that was when she was ten, and lived in a house full of men. She had spent the last seven years away from them, learning things the rest of Shelby’s could probably never comprehend. Polly knew the girl making her way back with Tommy was not the same one that left with him, and she was not sure the rest of the family understood that. But they had all changed so drastically, how could they not think she had as well?
“Need I remind you what school she’s been for the past seven years? Don’t you remember Pearl Higgn’s niece going to St. Abigail’s? She only went for a year, and look how she came back. You shouldn’t be expecting the same wild little ten year old to be walking through those doors later,” Polly knew she sounded harsh, but they had to be told. If they had unrealistic expectations for her, they were sure to be disappointed, and these boys could never hide their expressions well.
Polly heard Arthur snort from the corner, before mumbling, “oh, we all remember how Pearl’s niece turned out,” making Polly roll her eyes.
“Come on Pol,” John started, “even at ten, she had the most gypsy blood out of all of us. Running around the streets barefoot and filthy. Even Tommy couldn’t stop her most of the time. Do you really think the years could get that out of her?”
Polly shook her head at John’s naiivity. Despite everything they had seen and experienced, the Shelby boys still held onto hope that their sister would come back to them just as innocent and sweet as when she left. Polly knew better though. Even if she had been in Small Heath, Alice would not have stayed innocent for long, but at least they would have experienced it first-hand and known why. Now though, seven years of mystery stood between them, and who knew what had happened to her in that time? And if Polly knew one thing, she knew the years at that school would have definitely got the gypsy spirit out of her, by whatever means necessary.

They Call Me Medic ch.3

Chapter 3 Dandelion
Loki PoV
I grinned as I watched her walk away. Her hips swayed perfectly and I found myself thinking of everything I wanted to do to her. I motioned my head to the side as my right hand appeared.
"Stult. Keep tabs on her. We may need a new medic soon." I chuckled then patted his shoulder as he nodded his head in understanding. I walked into the hospital and shed my outer layer. Laying my jacket over my arm.
Walking to the help desk I cleared my throat and looked down at the plump faced girl who manned the switch board.
"Can I help y-." Her voice was cut off as she saw who I was.
"Mr. Laufeyson. Please just a moment." She spoke as she called the executive wing of the hospital. A tall thin woman who was more plastic than organic appeared through a set of double doors.
"Mr. Laufeyson, to what do we owe this pleasure?" She smiled an all too forced smile. I returned the smile and gave her a quick hug and kiss on the cheek.
"Eva, it's been a while...I am not here on business." I watched as her face noticeably relaxed.
"It seems my niece had an accident last night and was brought in by ambulance. I came to see her." I continued as I slid a hand through my hair pulling it back from my face. Eva nodded and swiped her badge to the double doors.
"Follow me please." She motioned as we began to walk through the executive hall.
I watched with little interest as she swayed her hips for me. Trying to bait me into a quickie. Every woman who knew who I was wanted a piece. They wanted to ensnare me into a life of suburbia with them as my next of kin.
We walked onto an elevator then up to the third floor. I stepped out of the metal doors to find myself surrounded by paintings of fish and mermaids. Eva led me to a corner room where the door had been shut and the curtains drawn.
"Alice Roth right? I remembered you mentioning her before." She spoke casually motioning for me to continue.
"Is there anything else you need at this time Mr. Laufeyson?" She forcefully smiled again.
"No Eva...thank you." I nodded my head once then slid open the door. I heard the sound of heels clacking away as I slid the door shut behind me.
In front of me was a half bionic child. Tubes flooded out from almost every orifice she owned. Machines lined her bed whirring or beeping helping with this or that. She couldn't even breathe on her own yet. I felt my chest tighten.
"My poor sweet Alice." I cooed gently as I sat on the edge of her bed and rubbed her hand. Her face looked blank. Like she was lost in her own world.
I took a thin book from my pocket and placed it on her bedstand. Whenever she awoke she would have it there waiting for her. It was my personal copy of her favorite book: Alice in Wonderland. We had read it many times over her small lifetime, after her parents died tragically and I took her in we read it almost monthly. She called me Daddy to help cope....she had been so small when she lost everything.
As I stood to leave I looked around the dim poorly furnished room and noticed the whiteboard that had the wrong information on it. It was dated for December 13th. That was yesterday. It said the Nurse in charge was Alesana N.  the tech was Lyndset K. and that the room number was 109.
A small smile crept across my lips as I picked up the phone in Alice's room and asked the switch board girl for Eva again.
After a few moments I heard the clacking of her heels as they approached.
I leaned down and kissed Alice's forehead careful not to pull on her tubing.
"I'll see you soon my little dandelion." I whispered.
As soon as I turned around my sad expression had melted into a stone face.
Walking out of the room I clicked the door closed behind me and gave a fake smile to Eva.
"You called for me sir?" She spoke casually smiling again.
"Yes. I would like to know the names of every staff member and what they did for my Alice." I spoke calmly.
"Sir That isn't information I can give-" she dared to utter. My smile faded and was replaced with annoyance.
"I sign your check. I sign their checks. I have kept this hospital running since it filed for bankruptcy years ago. You cannot deny me what I have requested." I snarled at her. I took her arm and felt her shaking as we walked towards the same elevator we came from. She bowed her head in defeat and spoke softly.
"Yes Mr. Laufeyson."
"I'll return later in the evening. I expect to have the full report then. Also, I want Alesana N. brought into work tonight." I let my smile return and dropped my voice low so only she could hear the venom dripping from my tone.
"I'll have it done." She spoke softly again and led me back to the lobby. I nodded my head at her and put my jacket on before walking out. I pulled out my cell phone and dialed Stult.
The phone continued to ring as my annoyance grew. I clicked off the call then texted him.
'Stult, you better answer.' A moment went by and then I saw the '...' that he was typing.
'If you want your precious Stults, he needs to learn it's not nice to break into people's homes. Or ogle women when they shower. Don't send idiot lackeys after me.'
My eyes widened for a brief second as an image loaded.
Stults was tied to a chair. The tying had been amateur at best, but he was unharmed. Secretly I was ecstatic that he had been knocked down a peg and that the authorities had not been called, but I still smiled and chuckled outwardly.
'My apologies Mrs. I will send someone to collect him immediately. He will be punished for any harm or distress you may have recieved.' I sent the text and stepped into the back seat of the black SUV that was waiting. I told the driver where to go and continued to chuckle as we went to collect my idiot lackey.

Note
I've got a fun idea if you're up for it! The reader (or a character of your choosing) and America have both been kidnapped by England, who wants to protect his "family" (feel free to make it parental or romantic) from the horrors of the outside world, and never ever let them leave. The reader/character is trying to find a way out, but Alfred's already starting to succumb to England's wishes despite his wishes to be the hero.
||i’m sorry my adhd medication went missing so i haven’t posted anything and haven’t been able to write,,,,,
You’d been friends with Alfred as long as you could remember. He always played the hero in your childish games, and you often played the villain or prince(ss). You often switched with Matt, but you were a way better villain. “Why is Al always the hero?” Matt asked one day. You shrugged.
“Because he won’t play if he isn’t the hero.”
“That doesn’t make it fair.”
“No, but he’s kinda scary when he’s mad.”
You and Matt shared a begrudging smile as you leaned against one another. When you weren’t playing games with Al, you and Matt would read things out of your storybook. You wanted these days to last forever. With your ‘aunt’ and her children. With Al and Matt, not having to know what came next.
Unfortunately, the best-laid plans often are spoiled.
Your caretaker, who solely went by ‘Auntie’ to the three of you, had taken the three of you on a trip to London. She said she was visiting a friend, and that you three could come with her. You were staying at the friend’s house with Auntie and Al, while Matt got to spend with ‘Big Brother’ Francis. You tended to shy away from the flamboyant man, and Al was probably still mad at him for one reason or another.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
It turns out that the only reason the ‘friend’ of Auntie had called upon her was to kidnap you and Alfred. It’d been about three years, and Auntie had died within the first two weeks, suddenly falling extremely ill. You and Al were devastated, but you found a place to direct your anger. Alfred didn’t realize it, but the green-eyed man that took you in had probably been the reason she died. The man had introduced himself as Arthur, although he seemed to prefer ‘big brother’.
You didn’t realize it immediately, but as time went on, your reflection seemed to point in that direction. He kept the two of you on the property and homeschooled the both of you, only leaving to check on his business every once in a while. Whenever you asked if you could at least attend school, he only ever told you no. Whenever he held parties, you and Al were hidden away into your rooms, and most damning of all, he seemed to dance around the topic of Auntie’s death, not even seeming particularly sad about it.
As time went on, you withdrew from the games that Arthur and Alfred played, and began reading older horror novels. Arthur would always insist that you weren’t old enough, or that they were too scary for you, but you hardly listened. For some reason, the terror within the books gave you comfort, an ‘away’ from your reality.
You and Alfred were probably fifteen when Arthur threw the first party the two of you were allowed to attend.
+++++++++++++++++++++
For those who tend to be a bit more feminine in regards to how you identify:
You were dressed in a long dress that stopped around your ankles, with lacy sleeves and it was a light shade of (f/c).
For those who tend to identify as more masculine:
You wore a (f/c) and grey suit. It fit you well and was probably a bit more fashion-forward compared to Al’s and Arthur’s.
++++++++++++++++++++++++
Al dressed in a simple, sleek black and blue suit. Arthur was proud to introduce the two of you as his wonderful younger siblings, adopted or not. You regretted not telling Al of your plan to escape, but he trusted Arthur too much.
“May I have this dance?” you heard a soft voice ask from behind you. You turn and smile politely. “Sure, why not?” you reply, looking into a pair of familiar, violet irises. You hadn’t seen Matt in years, but the tone of voice and the way he looked at you hadn’t changed. His hair was a little more well kept, and he had a slimmer frame than his brother, but he still looked like the kid you knew.
You let him lead as you chat and catch up, laughing at old jokes. You mention nothing of your plan and Arthur walks over, a hard-to-read smile on his face. You force a smile as you introduce the pair, moving slightly behind Matthew. This was going to be difficult.
“(Y/n), you seem rather close to this young man.”
“We grew up together. He was in France when Auntie passed.”
“Yeah; I miss spending time with you and Alfred. I’m glad my brother got invited this time.”
“Oh, are you Francis’ little brother?”
“Yeah. He keeps complaining about how you keep trying to buy his business.”
Matt laughs, and you genuinely smile for the first time in a while. He wasn’t particularly shy, but soft-spoken and often ignored. At least, that’s how he seemed at that point. As a child, he would often let you or Alfred do things or talk to people for him until he felt brave enough to himself. He seems to have grown out of that. Being around Matt had calmed you in your previously, as it did at that moment.
Your attempted escape that night didn’t work.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
You knew you needed Alfred’s help to get out, as well as Matt’s.
You spent most of the next couple of years planning and scheming. You knew the house almost better than Arthur. The grounds were easy to navigate. You knew where to hide, what boards creaked, where you could fit that others couldn’t.
Matt was a good accomplice. Alfred would take convincing.
You sat at the breakfast table quietly. You held a copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland as you looked at Arthur and Alfred. Arthur had made some eggs, but you knew better than to eat them. You instead cut some bread and put jam on it as you curled in your chair.
“Arthur, why aren’t we allowed to leave?” you questioned quietly, knowing he’d respond the same way he always would.
“(Y/n), we’ve been over this. You two aren’t to leave because the outside world is horrific. It will ruin you both.”
“I think you’re coddling us. I read about old serial killers for fun, Arthur, because I can’t even get on the internet without you watching my every move.”
“(Y/n), he’s just worried about us. Especially since Auntie passed.”
You rubbed your temples in exasperation. Alfred was delusional to a fault when it came to Arthur’s word. You needed to find Auntie’s will, knowing she would’ve had very specific instruction for your care. She probably wrote it on her deathbed, and Arthur could’ve destroyed it or hidden it, depending on what the woman had written. Either the will or its ashes would be located in his office. “Whatever. Believe what you want.”
Excusing yourself, you went to Arthur’s office and started carefully rifling through it. Your natural instinct was to just chuck everything off the shelves, but you didn’t need to. Tapping on one of Arthur's drawers revealed a fake bottom, judging from the sound it made.
“This man needs to up his hiding game,” you muttered as you felt the bottom for a latch or hole. When you managed to get it open, you found a hefty pile of documents. Not thick enough to warrant you carrying it in your arms, but just thick enough for you to be cautious about how the hell were you going to fit it in your bag without it being noticeable.
You put the drawer back together and managed to be sliding the monstrous tome from that morning back into place.
“Finally finished that one, hm?”
“Yes. It provided some interesting insight, for nonsense and an odd story.”
“I hope you use it wisely.”
“I will.”
