saw the phrase “power move” and was reminded of the near-climax of MDZS when Jiang Cheng slams open the doors of the temple in the middle of a thunderstorm, holding his umbrella in one hand and purple lightning whip in the other, drops his umbrella to draw his sword while knocking most of JGY’s goons flat with a single crackling whip-swing in 0.2 seconds, then from the back of the temple JGY starts playing golden core-restraining music again, and still all in one smooth striding forward Jiang Cheng kicks a fallen goon’s sword into the air, catches it, and grates it against his own sword to make a noise so horrendously ear-splitting that every Lan in the room winces visibly, until Jin Guangyao stops playing and walks forward to say, “I must admit my defeat against such a power move.”

Honestly, one of the funniest things about the Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation is the amount of gaslighting Jiang Cheng experiences troughout it all about whether or not Mo Xuanyu is Wei Wuxian come again.

Jiang Cheng sees this dude who is playing the flute exactly like Wei Wuxian and controlling Wen Ning exactly like Wei Wuxian, and hes like "THAT'S WEI YING, HE'S FINALLY COME BACK FROM THE DEAD! I'M GONNA KILL HIM!" and everyone tells him to calm tf down and that he's paranoid (which is fair enough considering he seems to have gone on a witch hunt for demonic cultivators). But still, he wasn't wrong about Mo Xuanyu being Wei Wuxian and the fact that people dismiss him and tell him that "it's not Wei Wuxian, it's just that random gay dude who tried to make moves on Jin Guangyao" is just hilarious to me.

Because Jiang Cheng is really the only person aside from Lan Zhan who clocks that Mo Xuanyu is Wei Wuxian and that's completely understandable because Jiang Cheng grew up with Wei Wuxian, of course he would know all of Wei Wuxian's ticks and his personality to a T (I say know, but whether or not Jiang Cheng understands Wei Wuxian is another thing). Because Jiang Cheng definitely knows that only Wei Wuxian is audacious enough to say in front of everyone (who are part of a society where gay men are mockingly called 'cut-sleeves') that his type is Lan Zhan and that he would never make moves on Jiang Cheng because of it.

Whenever I try to imagine relationship between adult Jin Ling and Jiang Cheng, it's always JC going "boo-hoo, now that he's all grown up, he will fly away from the nest and forget all about me and leave my old bones to rot as things should be" and JL going "FINALLY. FINALLY IT'S MY TURN TO FUSS OVER YOU".

Something like this:

JL: When was the last time you touched grass? No. No, look me in the eyes. Answer the question. When was. The last time. You touched grass? Okay, I'm staying here and I'm not going anywhere until you touch grass. Go on, do it. No. No, don't you dare! Come on. Just a little bit, it's okay. There you go! I just realised something. Jin Ling better get an expert matchmaker when he grows up. Lord, he's surrounded by the most rizzless people ever!

Who is this boy going to learn from? His dad, the martyr to chronic foot-in-mouth disease? Jiang Cheng, the man boycotted by all the matchmakers? Wei Wuxian, disaster gay? Lan Wangji, lord of let me bite you to tell you how I feel?

Jiang Cheng being described as a "sentimental fool" is perhaps one of the only rumours confirmed to be true about him. The condition Chenqing had been kept in, well cleaned, in working condition and carried on his person is a testament of that.

We see that in the scenes prior that Jiang Cheng cherises his belongings that he values and cares deeply for (he is noted to clean his sword regularly, a valued possession of his, clearly). Chenqing, giving its sentimental value and who it belonged to, was thus also a cherished item of his.

Jiang Cheng really is all bark and no bite. And Wei Wuxian was wrong to assume that he vehemently hated him all these years. His feelings towards Wei Wuxian were complicated but despite all the talk and all the rumours, we can infer from this piece of evidence that he truly didn't hate Wei Wuxian. The condition Chenqing was kept in is proof of that and I believe that was what MXTX was trying to convey when she included this fine detail.
