Nothing is going to convince me Xie Lian isn't secretly a decent cook.
Not great, but he can make good, palatable meals. If he ever wanted or needed to he could make a perfectly normal meal of rice and steamed veggies and fried meats.
He just doesn't. On purpose.
Because his mom couldn't cook and he basically shit-talked the last meal she ever made him, one of the few meals she ever made him at all and he learned how important your moms cooking is as he was out in the world of people who didn't have master chef's they never met dedicated to making perfect dishes.
So he deliberately tries to cook like her.
Partially to be remember her, partially to carry on some legacy of hers, partially to punish himself with the flavor because he can withstand the stomachaches and partially because he honestly just finds it funny how people react to it.

"It took me TWO years to finish this sketch book!" Well that's cuz you're not fuckin sketching. Those are fully painted pieces dawg that's a renderedbook. I've gone through four sketchbooks in my off time this year alone I just draw stupid faces and shit for fun. pussy up like the rest of us and start drawing stick figures with guns
#i've seen many digital artists post fully rendered pieces and call them sketches#it's like the definition of 'sketch' got shifted at some point#anyway#having multiple sketchbooks is the best idea ever#i have one A4 sketchbook for drawings collages photos - art projects and experiments#big and cool stuff go there#this bitch is turning out gorgeous#but i also have a baby that's about the same size as my palm#and it's full of 'numerous nervous 15-second scribbles of the same pose because i couldn't get the angle quite the way i like it'#and 'colorful blobs and strokes because i was in the mood for putting pencil on paper but not in the mood for having coherent thoughts'
