Prompt 17 - First Look
@wolfstarmicrofic January 17, word count 597
Remus held tight to the trolley, heavy with his trunk, and let out a long breath as he looked at the solid wall between platforms 9 and 10. He knew it wasn’t a real wall, and the second he touched it, he would pass straight through it onto the hidden platform behind it, but that still didn’t mean he wasn’t scared to do it. Remus might have grown up with a wizard for a father, but Lyall very rarely used magic in front of him. Most of the magic Remus knew about was in the muggle fairy tales his mother had read to him as he grew up.
Remus and his parents had been shocked when Dumbledore had turned up on their doorstep this summer and gone through all the precautions he was putting in place so that Remus could attend Hogwarts if he wanted to. Remus was still in disbelief, and if only he could take those last few steps, he might start believing that he was actually on his way to Hogwarts to learn how to use magic. He screwed his eyes shut and ran.
He kept running, further than the wall should have been. He opened his eyes and yelped as his trolly went crashing into a pillar, and he spun sideways, knocking over another boy about his age.
“Oh my god, I am so sorry,” He burst out, helping the other boy to his feet. The boy dusted off his tailored black robes and looked up into Remus’s eyes. Their eyes locked and Remus’s heart stopped. He’d never seen eyes such a vivid shade of blue. They burned into him like flames, licking at his soul as he was powerless before them.
“What is the meaning of this?!” A hawk-like woman stared down at him with a haughty expression. The spell was immediately broken between them as Remus’s attention turned to the woman. He wanted to be brave but she was terrifying. She glared at him and Remus hurried away.
He didn’t even take in the beauty of the scarlet train that would pull them all the way to Scotland as he quickly dragged his trunk onto the carriage and found an empty compartment. He stowed his trunk in the rack above him and settled down for the long journey.
“Hey, can I sit in here?” A voice asked. Remus hadn’t even heard the door slide open.
“Yeah, sure,” he said, not even looking up.
Whoever it was put his trunk away and then sat down opposite Remus. “Sorry about my mother, she’s… a lot.” Remus’s head snapped up; it was the boy from before. “Sirius Black,” Sirius held his hand out. Remus stared at it before reaching out with his own and giving it a firm shake. “Remus Lupin,” He introduced himself. “Well, thank you for crashing into me, Remus Lupin, it was the most exciting thing that's happened to me all summer.”
“Er, no problem,” Remus replied, smiling when Sirius smiled at him. Sirius tilted forward when the train suddenly started moving and crashed into Remus.
“Well, looks like I got my own back,” Sirius laughed from his lap. Remus helped him up again just as the door opened again and a messy-haired boy and a smaller blond boy stuck their heads around the door.
“Mind if we sit in here with you?” Sirius looked at Remus and Remus looked at Sirius and silently they agreed.
“Sure, the more, the merrier,” Sirius declared, and just like that, Remus was talking to three people his own age. He loved school so much.

I feel like Regulus would secretly collect toys as an adult because he never had any he liked as a child, whether they’re dino figurines 🦕, miniature models ⛵️✈️ 🚂, or plushies 🐻.
He would keep them in a safe hiding spot and have them immaculately organized. And whenever he gets stressed he goes and reorganizes them to calm himself down.

We seem to forget that the Black brothers actually come from the Black family
I’ve seen so many people describe them like puppies
And I just had to speak my truth
Those boys were raised by Walburga and Orion Black
They are haunted by their childhood
They can’t be all that nice and I’m not saying they’re evil, far from it, I’m just saying it’s an horizon we need to explore.
Regulus hexes people in the corridors for walking too slow, for chewing gum too loud, for having an ugly haircut or an ugly outfit
Sirius is more passive but not any more nice
He’ll say in people’s face that their style is horrendous
If he bumps into someone you can thrust he won’t be the one apologizing (he never learned to)
He’s so full of himself he’ll say stuff like ‘‘you’re in my way’’ or ‘‘ your presence is bothering me’’ without kidding
He’ll look at people up and down with clear distaste in his face
He always chooses the first of the class to team up with so he doesn’t have to do any of the work and still get a good grade
I know it sounds like I hate them but I swear they’re my babies. I just need more of their mean side to show. Coming from an abusive household leaves scars in and out. So no, Regulus is not just a cute blushing twink and Sirius not just a gay rebel. Give them sass plsssssss!

okay lay one-dimensional walburga to rest. give me overbearing walburga who chokes her sons with her love. walburga who is so determined to make them perfect that she doesn't care if she suffocates them. walburga who controls their clothes, their food, walburga who brushes their hair every morning and inspects their skin. walburga who loves dressing up her pretty, perfect boys like they're dolls. who forces her children to be exactly what she wants them to be and hides it all under it's because i love you, baby and i only want the best for you, my love and are you sure you want to wear that? and don't you want to look prettier, my darling?

Autistic Regulus, whom I hold so near and dear to my heart, they can never take you away from me. 😔
As an autistic person, (who gets probably way to hyperfixated on certain characters) these are my HC’s:
- He was diagnosed late. Like, REALLY late. Canon compliance, he wasn’t at all, and in some modern AU it was probably late into his twenties, maybe early-to-mid-thirties, and after he was out of his parent’s hold. Because Walburga and Orion could never accept that there was something wrong with their daughter, son (because I live for trans Reggie) so why should they ever enable anyone to believe that he was ‘mental’? Or ‘slow’? No, a Black child wasn’t those things. (OOC; Just for reference, autistic people are not, nor do I think they are, mental, crazy, slow, or any of those things. I am autistic myself, and have many friends who are, and know that is not the case 💚)
This also leads to a lot of trauma for Regulus, and a lot of repressed emotions. He learned how to mask very quickly, and very well.
- he’s sensitive to bright lights (which his light blue/gray eyes do not help with), and so he squints his eyes a lot. Barty once told him he looked like he was scrutinizing his face, and Regulus simply said ‘I am, it’s ugly.’ (He doesn’t believe that, but he’s not going to tell you that.) (I love sneaking in unrelated Bartylus)
- along with bright lights, he’s sensitive to loud noises. That was hard for him when he would have to listen to, or endure, his parents screaming. When they’d scream at Sirius, Regulus would hide up in his room, in the closet, with his hands over his ears, hoping nobody called for him. When he was the one being screamed at, he’d just zone out and hope they would just go away.
- he used to be that he couldn’t bear to hold eye contact, like it physically hurt him; but his parents beat it into him that it was disrespectful, so now he’s ended up being that guy who will just dead-stare into someone’s eyes if they’re talking to him. It often unsettles them, and makes Regulus out to be some ‘weird, creepy kid.’ (Regulus was originally confused by this; wasn’t he doing it right? Do you look at their eyes or no?)
- his voice is very monotone. He was often able to get away with this, because it sounded much like his father’s. (Orion had a number of peculiar habits, and quirks. No one talked about it.)
- intimacy (even friendly touch, like hand-holding, hugging) is difficult for him. Regulus does not hug, he does not hold people’s hands. (Unless it was Sirius’, because Sirius was the one who’d hold his hand when he was melting down every other night. Sirius’ hand feels too familiar to hurt, like most others’ do.) he’s only comfortable with touch once he REALLY gets to know a person, and even then, there’s still strict no-no’s. (No touching his hair, his neck, his wrists, his legs, his feet, his stomach, (basically nothing below his waist) )- in retrospect, not much. (Those rules had more leeway with Barty, he supposed.)
- he HATES certain sounds. Cannot stand chewing, cannot stand repetitive sounds (even though he occasionally makes those, only when he’s alone), sounds of bugs, cannot stand certain textures, too- velvet, for one (formal events were nightmares, for that, and many other reasons), microfiber, and certain denims.
- he loves the water. It’s very calming, has a nice sound, has a nice texture. He listens to thunderstorm/rain sounds to go to sleep to, (because another thing is he cannot tolerate silence.)
Again, this may be me way too much projecting, but I really don’t care 🫶

Sirius: did you get my assignment? Sorry it was late again
McGonagall: uh yeah, I looked it over nice work
Sirius: thanks mum
McGonagall:
Everyone in the class:
Sirius: why is everyone staring at me
James: you called Minnie mum
Remus: you said 'thanks mum'
Sirius: no I didn't. If anything I said thanks man
McGonagall: do you see me as a mother figure, Sirius?
Sirius: no! If anything I see you as a bother figure because you're always bothering me!
Marlene: hey! Show your mother some respect!

Sirius Black calling Snape “Snivelly” when Snape, with not a penny to his name, had to keep living in that shitty slum he grew up in, in a rundown Muggle neighborhood, without complaining once, while Sirius was crying in his mum’s room after two weeks in his family’s posh London house because he couldn’t stand hearing her voice—that’s one of those ironies in their dynamic that cracks me up. Honestly, outside his role as a school bully, Sirius was just a posh kid with first-world problems and thin skin, throwing tantrums over things that, for the guy he thought was a whiny, soft crybaby, were just another Tuesday.

Marauders fandom (most of them) lack so much media literacy that Walburga (only her for some reason) has to be throwing unforgivables at her children to prove that the family was abusive.

Prompt 12 - First Words
@wolfstarmicrofic January 12, word count 533
CW - Child abuse
“Remember Sirius, you are representing The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black while you are at school and your actions will reflect that, am I making myself clear?” Walburga growled out to himå without even looking down, yet somehow she caught him rolling his eyes. Sirius felt the cut even before the blood could begin to ooze out as she sliced her long, pointed nail across the back of his hand.
“Yes, Mother,” He quickly responded, bowing his head and covering the scratch with his other hand.
“Good. Now go and find a seat. We will be expecting your return during the Yule holidays. Your cousins will be reporting back to me any failures in your behaviour,” She paused, and her eyes flicked down to her other side. “You may say goodbye to your brother,”
Sirius immediately rushed around her and gathered Regulus into his arms before she could change her mind.
“I’ll write you everyday. I love you Reggie,” He quickly told him, wiping away a tear from Regulus’s cheek before their mother saw. “I’ll be back before you know it, promise,” Regulus didn’t answer him, probably because his voice would show emotion and Walburga would drag him away. Sirius pulled him in for one last hug and made his way to catch the train.
He found an empty carriage. There was luggage in the luggage rack, but no one was sitting in it, so he hoisted his own trunk up opposite the one already in there and sat down to look out at Regulus and his mother waiting on the platform.
He waved at Reggie and got a little half-wave back before Walburga's mouth twitched, and he stood up with his back straight. Sirius hated that he was leaving Regulus alone in that house, but there was nothing he could do about it. He sighed as he tried to figure out again a way to keep Reggie safe while he wasn’t there, but his thoughts were cut short as the compartment door banged open.
“Oi, dickhead, I’m sitting there,” Sirius looked at the scruffy looking boy with the out of place sandy curls, untucked shirt, scuffed boots and a long thin scar that started at the back of his jaw, trailed down his neck and disappeared into his creased collar, and knew this foul-mouthed boy was exactly the type of person his mother had warned him about.
“Sirius Black,” he declared happily, offering his hand to the boy.
“Remus Lupin,” Remus returned the greeting, shaking his hand and settling into the seat next to him.
The train began to pull away and Sirius looked out of the window and watched Regulus until he couldn’t see him any more. He slumped back in his seat. “Chocolate?” Remus asked him as he offered the muggle chocolate bar to him. Sirius looked at him wide-eyed and eagerly took the offered treat. He’d never had muggle anything.
“Thanks,” he beamed, taking a bite of something called a Mars bar. He groaned as the myriad of flavours hit his tongue. He sighed happily and thought he was going to like Hogwarts very much, especially if grumpy, scruffy near strangers like Remus Lupin gave him chocolate.
